Had a 3 course meal which was excellent. I booked in a little early at 6pm which meant things were pretty chill and quiet... "the calm before the storm". I am on a diet that focuses on vegan and sugar-free wherever possible. The Northo had some good options so I ordered a staple fave - Tomato Bruschetta, to be followed by a Falafel Burger. It had been a warm day so a Pfieffers Chardonnay came out crisp and cold. A long black to close out the meal. I felt full and indulged. Walked in and they only had a table of 12 people. We ordered and waited nearly 1hr for our food and all the while the tables around us had dirty dishes and were never removed even when we left. Initially we were hesitant since there was no one inside, however we decided to give it a go. Unexpectedly, we found this little gem whilst looking for lunch on our way back to Melbourne. I was expecting a small modest cafe, but was pleasantly surprised to find such delicious chinese food in Benella. The most well balanced lemon chicken I have ever eaten was on offer - sour yet sweet but with neither flavor dominating. This is a must try if you like Lemon Chicken - Crispy, but the chicken was still moist. Honey chicken was crispy, and the flavour not overpowering. The Special Fried Rice was generous in size, with large amounts of egg, and decently sized prawns. Don't be offput by the decor - its all in the delicious food here. Definitely get those! Awesome drinks menu too but could be more organised, and then there's nowhere online to view the menu or make a booking which brings me to the following. So let's talk about the service and atmosphere. Service: while a friendly team everyone is fumbling around on the floor and behind the bar. Kitchen seems organised though as the food comes out pretty fast. HOWEVER by the time we arrived there one of the mains were sold out (this was kind of early-mid dinner seating) so considering their opening hours are until late - that's not great. Atmosphere wise - need to set a vibe. The team are in flannels which is awesome! But then the following needs to be looked at: - lighting is way too bright. - seating is crowded. Those heavy looking dining seats don't really help the situation. Would be awesome if seating could spill out onto the main street like the previous owners had. - some background music with an outback or country theme would also help too. - booking system (this will also help with ordering ingredients) Looking forward to BBQ Den's growth and trying the chicken wings.

The brisket was hard and drowned in a sweet sauce that completely over through any flavour the brisket may have had, and my steamed potato with sour cream was instead replaced with 3 small baked potatoes, my friend who I ate with ordered the brisket and corn but they sadly forgot his corn some how since we were the only people in there. On top of all that they tried to charge us still for something we didn’t order among the things we didn’t even receive. As for the atmosphere… if you feel like sharing your food with people you don’t know this could be the place for you with tables that aren’t even 30cm from one another it all gives an incredibly close and personal setting. I could not recommend this place less it was an extreme disappointment, if you’re going to do a “BBQ themed restaurant” maybe being able to do a good brisket would be a great start
