The food is absolutely phenomenal. Flavorful and filling. Large portions. Delicious coffee. The full menu is available all day long as well! Much of their items are made in house. I've wanted to eat here for so long. We drive to Topeka from Lawrence to go to Sams Club and my caveat was I was cool w the trip as long as I got to try bacon and pancakes at Hanover. We arrived around 11:15am. There were 3 tables of patrons inside finishing up. We were immediately given a table. Drinks ordered and delivered. The OJ was gross. Then a table of 12 teens entered. Their order was taken first. After 20+ min of waiting our order was never taken. So we left. I am beyond disappointed. I have always wanted to eat there. We went to Prize Package instead and the clerk apologized to us for it taking not even 10 min to write down our order because there were 7 take out orders being handed out. I laughed to myself... 10 min to order and 10 min to get a delicious $3 cheeseburger. Definitely better than a $10 burger we never got to order and a $6 single pancake we never got to order and a $6 bacon we never got to order at Hanover in 20+ minutes. The coffee was decent and topped off frequently. The cinnamon roll was top notch. The bad: The sausage and bacon breakfast sandwich had a tiny sausage patty was the size of a large coin and didn't cover much of the sandwich. There would have to be at least 3 of them to get sausage in every bite. We asked for extra crispy hashbrowns and, while they were cooked through, the hashbrowns were definitely soft and not crispy. The proprietor was warm and friendly though, and told me he'd just pulled the turkey & provolone croissants out of the oven. We had a good chat while he packaged up my croissants and ran my card. No complaints here on his food handling technique, a bit of a surprise for me that, considering that the shop looks like it's still in the process of getting set up. The biggest surprise of the visit was the croissants themselves. We're pretty those were the most perfectly laminated, lightest, flakiest croissants we have ever had (including the ones we had in France). He then had to ask a second time as the associate did not bring him all of them. When she brought by them out she tossed them on his tray with no regard for the food on the tray. Finally she steps over to take my order and has a massive attitude about it. After placing my order of a single McGriddle I asked if I could have it to go. She snapped back at me that it is to go. This is some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my 10+ years of working in customer service jobs, starting at McDonald’s myself. I understand having a bad day, but taking it out on a paying customer is never ok. This experience has me not wanting to visit McDonald’s for quite awhile. I will never return to this location. That all being said the food itself was on point, the kitchen team is really having to compensate for the service on the front end. They were fast and my sandwich was picture perfect, it was stacked neatly and evenly.
