Soggiornare a El Albergue a Ollantaytambo è stata un’esperienza che ha saputo coniugare comfort, autenticità e un profondo legame con il territorio. Location location location! This hotel is inside the Ollantaytambo station and unexpectedly drop dead quiet for such a location. Sparkling clean room.
Breakfast in their restaurant was sumptuous, fresh and delicious too.
Four stars only because room was too warm for our liking and the hotel didn’t even have a portable fan. Lady at the reception suggested I keep the window open instead (which would have been difficult given train services)

Stay here before your Inca Trail trek or visit to Machu Picchu. They kindly held our luggage for the trek and the restaurant was great. The Casita was perfect for three of us. You need time here to visit the town (historic Inca streets well preserved - go to ALQA museum/restaurant) and the fortress ruins - nice walk from the hotel through the farm directly to the ruins.

Staying at the El Albergue in Ollantaytambo was an amazing experience! We felt so lucky to find this gem. It is such a charming property with an ideal location (attached to the train station, along the tracks, very unique and special)! Close enough to town for an easy walk, but at the same time separate enough to feel like you are in your own oasis that El Albergue exudes. It offers excellent food, an attentive and friendly staff, and an absolutely beautiful environment. The rooms are set around an exquisite garden, beautifully appointed, including some original artwork created by the owner. Plus, the property owns their own organic farm, coffee roasting facilities and distillery, adjacent to the hotel. All of which supply provisions to their restaurants; including the main dining room, the cafe which opens to the train platform, and the amazing Pachamanca feast offered near the farm if you are able to participate in during your time there. We had an absolutely wonderful time staying here, and if we find ourselves lucky enough to travel back to Peru, this will be on the top of our list to visit again.

This hotel is literally inside the train station, which is incredibly convenient for early trains to Machu Picchu. Even though it is in the train station, our room was unexpectedly quiet in a beautiful garden setting. The room itself was also nicely appointed. The hotel staff also were lovely and accommodating.
My only issue with our stay was the restaurant. We decided to eat at the hotel because we were tired and had an early start. The restaurant service was slow (we were seated for close to an hour with only water provided), they were out of the preferred entree of both myself and my son, and they forgot our appetizer. The food wasn’t bad, but the experience overall in the restaurant for dinner was bad. On the plus side, the included breakfast was prompt and good.
I’d definitely stay again because the hotel was so exceptional.

We unfortunately didn’t stay, but came for the Pachamanca experience and can’t recommend it enough. Not only are you treated to a delicious meal and learn about a special experience, you also visit their distillery and the coffee roastery which was fantastic.
The food was delicious and eating it in the beautiful setting of the farm was even more special. You will need to book in advanced.

You wake at 5am with first train (as hotel is on platform) but unlike most other hotels in Sacred Valley and Cusco they don't offer an early breakfast. It starts at 6am which is ridiculous. Most people are up before then for hikes and trips etc. Annoyingly they did provide a counter on train platform for non-guests to buy food and drink so it's not like they're not already up and about. Otherwise the hotel was clean and comfortable but we didn't have hot water on evening for shower.

Besides the location, the place has little to offer. The rooms look nice, but are not very practical in the 21st century. And being on the train station, it’s always noisy. Almost no sound isolation in the building, so you hear everything, all the time (they provide “complementary” earplugs!). The rooms have no temperature control, very small bathroom with limited hot water. If the hotel was half the price, it would have perhaps been worth it.
Restaurant was also not too great, service was very slow, food was mediocre at best.
I am sure there are lot of better options in ollantaytambo. Spend ur money elsewhere.

El Huacatay is a highly recommended restaurant in Peru, known for its delicious food and magical courtyard dining experience. The outdoor seating area is beautifully decorated, and the attentive servers ensure a delightful dining experience. The menu offers incredible dishes such as trout carpaccio, tuna tataki, and pesto pasta with trout. While the service may be a bit slow at times, it's worth stopping by before heading to Machu Picchu.

The atmosphere and service were wonderful. I have mixed feeling about the food though. The complimentary bread with olives and chimichurri was great! As an app I ordered the crispy mushroom empanaditas which I enjoyed but the veggies at the bottom were salty so I couldn’t eat the cheese dip with it bc it was salty also (blue cheese). For main I ordered the vegetable curry which was just ok. They put in a lot of onions as a filler veggie. Why I have mixed feelings about this place was bc it gave me diarrhea :( and I have been eating at many different places around the sacred valley daily for over a month and had no issues.

This is an excellent little, family-run restaurant. The decor is rustic, and the kitchen is rudimentary, but the food they produce is top quality. You have to try extremely hard to find a bad restaurant in Peru! We were there with a large trekking group, but the service was reasonable given our group size. They have some nice drink options, and the avocado apps are amazing, but the real stars of the show are the meats served on sizzling stones. The veggie options were also excellent, and next time I will order this instead of meat!

Allí pudimos disfrutar de uno de los dos más ricos pisco sour de nuestra estancia en Perú, de una papa rellena de verduras y frijoles, exquisita, acompañada de un choclo, cuyo sabor hizo derramar lágrimas de placer a mi nicaragüense compañera de vida, con su correspondiente salsa herbacea y picantita y del mejor chicharrón que he podido degustar en mi vida gastronómica.
Todo ello, servido con muchísimo amor por un joven camarero profesional y en una vajilla auténtica y divertida.
Lugares así, son los que verdaderamente dignifican y ensalzan una gastronomía popular, auténtica y servida incluso para extranjeros. Un ejemplo, a nivel global de lo que debe ser, de lo que es, una gastronomía basada en el producto ancestral
y en el saber hacer de la culltura que integra y respeta su ancestralidad.
Realmente fue la expresión más auténtica de la visita que habíamos realizado anteriormente al increíble mercado de Urubamba. Verdadero templo del producto y de la tierra.
Una visita, por cierto, imprescindible si uno quiere conocer a fondo la raíces y la realidad de la cultura gastronómica peruana. La actual y la de cientos, quizás miles de años, ancestrales.
No solemos adjuntar la factura, pero en este caso, los 140 soles equivalentes a 35 €, se merecen una ovación cerrada. Y las tres estrellas más agradecidas del mundo.

Ubicado en lugar privilegiado como es el pueblo de Ollantaytambo, Buen ambiente, excelente atención, comida de calidad. I could not recommend this place less. The food was okay, I guess, byt not good. Our food was forgotten. Then when we paid the staff seemed angry we did not tip. It took two hours. Even to pay we had to stare at them for ten to fifteen minutes. Then were rude about not being tipped when tipping is not even expected or normal in Peru.

We ate at Don Dante Restaurante several times while in Ollantaytambo and it was great every time. The alpaca steak was tender and flavorful. Pizzas were excellent and the guacamole that came with the chips was delicious. The Pisco sours (classic and Maracuya) were the best we had while in Peru. Delicious!! One of the few restaurants open late in Plaza de Armas, we were beckoned in at 8 pm by a friendly man named Everest who was our waiter. We were initially hesitant because we really wanted traditional Peruvian cuisine but with it being late and with the enticing menu options we gave in. We tried the ceviche, red wine, coca sour, and had the alpaca with pear wine sauce and the alpaca with wheat berries as our mains. This was our first meal in Ollantaytambo and we weren't very impressed. We felt the food was overpriced, aimed at tourist, and the quality was just ok. We ordered aji de gallina (35 soles - about $12) and alpaca con quinoa (35 soles). These did not include any beverage or appetizer. Aji de gallina is a classic chicken dish served with a spicy yellow sauce made from peru's yellow chilies. The menu advertized it as spicy but it was bland without a hint of spice. Great spot for breakfast or lunch in Ollantaytambo! We ate here twice during our stay in the area. Great for coeliacs/gluten intolerant with gluten free options clearly marked on the menu. Though there are few gf items, they are mighty. The Ollantine salad was a full meal, with lots of quinoa and lots of flavour. The lemonade is homemade and super fresh (ordered it twice). The "full bowl" was everything you expect a bowl of potatoes, bacon, egg, avocado and cheese to be - delicious comfort food. Service was friendly and fast.

Had a very nice lunch here before my train to Aguas Calientes. The staff were kind and accommodating. The food was clearly prepared with care, my quesadilla and fresh pineapple juice looked and tasted delicious. You can just feel the positive vibes emanating throughout the space. We recently ate here and it turned out to be a bad choice. A chicken dish (38 soles) we ordered had only a small amount of chicken and filled out with potatoes. Worse to come was when we ordered the bill and found that for one of the dishes, instead of the 18 soles as per on the menu they had written 38 soles. Now, sure people make mistakes and that may be what genuinely happened. I am not so sure as after seeing the error, I asked to see the menu again and when they returned they knew exactly why I had asked to see the menu and immediately adjusted the bill. Our guest house owner recommended this place to eat clean and not get sick before Machu Picchu. The food was fantastic. My favorite was the quinoa soup. It was very hearty and nutritious. The only place in Peru that pulled a swift one on us. We were shown 2 menus at the entrance. The first was for 35 for a 2 course meal and the second was for 40 for a 3 course meal. The food to be fair was good but after the main we waited for 30mins for our desert… which never came. We were then told that the desert would be 50 if we wanted it. We just asked to pay and the price went up to 45 instead of the 40 we were told. For the sake of an extra 10 soles we didn’t bother arguing but that was just annoying. Don’t bother going there, there are a ton of amazing places to go instead.

- People from our tour group had sat at another table paid and left before we were done. The waitress then came to us to resolve an issue with the other people's table. The bill they paid with was torn and they couldn't accept it and we're looking from payment from us.
- Had happy hour drinks that are 2 for one special. Didn't get the second drink until after we asked for the check even though we had empty glasses for a while and had asked about our drinks.
- Granted this is on us for not checking the receipt well enough. After we paid and made sure everything was fine after the first event we left. Only for part of our party to be chased down in the square over a clerical error on their end for not charging enough. They asked for the money in the street.
Fortunately we we're able to resolve the issues with our tour group. And I understand why they acted the way they did. They just need to get things together on their end.

The pizza was so good that we had to come back the next day and ordered 3 other kinds for lunch! We enjoyed every bite especially after a tiring hike up the archeological site and tour of the market place around the corner. Big bonus is you’ll see the steep steps of Sitio Arqueologico de Ollantaytambo from their balcony during the day. The owners went over the top when it rained hard and we didn’t bring raincoats in mid November. The chef went out of the restaurant to find us a Tuktuk late that evening when rides were scarce. After 3 attempts, he found us a tuktuk that took us to our hotel’s doorstep. Our shoes stayed dry on a rainy evening! Thanks to them!

We found this family-run place whilst strolling around Ollantaytambo and with a great value menu turistico my friend and I decided to walk in. We had the best sopa de quinoa in Peru (even better than in well rated Mr Soup in Cusco) and perfectly flavoued mains. Lovely cafe, stumbled upon it while looking for a different one actually. Dinner was superb and so reasonably priced. I had the Quinotto a la huacaina con lomo saltado, which was a quinoa dish with a wonderful yellow pepper sauce topped with seasoned meat. I really enjoyed the "relaxing potion" which was an infusion of lemongrass, lemon, pansy, and sugar. Perfect way to warm up after walking around the ruins. Highly recommend. The english is not great here, but the hospitality and service make up for that by leaps and bounds.

We were seated fairly swiftly, and not long after out order was taken. We then waiting 40 mins before my wife's drink to arrive, my beer was still nowhere to be seen. My wife's good arrived about 10 mins after her drink, my beer and food was still nowhere to be seen. My pizza arrived eventually about an hour after I first ordered it. This is not where the drama ended, but first a commentary on the food. It was alright, but nothing special, the morning aftwr however our stomachs were a bit funny, although this may not be related.
The bill arrived, and despite the total of our dishes and drinks coming to 88, the waiter had totalled it up to be 120, and then explained it away as being a 15% tax, before quickly agreeing that it should be 88. When we went to pay we were told that 9 would be added on as a cars fee, we were not warned of this before hand.
This is the first restaurant were I have not left a top for many many years and I would avoid, unless you want substandard service and a waiter who may try and swindle you with the bill.
Avoid, there are better establishments for cheaper in the local area.

Most special place in town!
We came to the restaurant for lunch and we were so surprised by how nice the place is.
The garden is amazing with the most beautiful flowers, so many birds were visiting and we were surrounded by the mountains. Quiet, charming and tranquil.
The service was excelente: the family who runs the place is so attentive! On the side of our meal, we had a medicinal tea with plants from their own garden, as we were feeling a bit ill. We left feeling much better and with a handful of plants as a gift :-)

This place is divine. The family that runs it makes excellent meals, great portions and criminally undercharges (I guess that’s good for guests). Some places claim to be home cooked meals, this place definitely is.
When my wife and I spent 4 days in the town, we ended up here 3 times. Unlike so many of the cookie cutter menus and restaurants in the town square this restaurant has heart, and wonderful private garden to sit in during your meal, a stream passing by the entrance for soothing ambiance and some of the ingredients are grown in that very same garden.
If I ever get back here I’ll be found at a table in this restaurant. One of my favourite “restaurants” ever. The picture does not do it justice.

Enjoyed the only vegetarian restaurant in the area. Opted for curry and brown rice, the brown rice was cooked to perfection - the best I’ve tasted. I also had the golden milk with turmeric in, delicious - could’ve been bigger! Dessert wise, we asked for chocolate cake to be warmed up and served with ice cream. I can't recommend Alma Amor more highly: delicious vegan and vegetarian options in a laid-back setting. While visiting Ollantaytambo with two friends, we stopped in for lunch. We got the special, which included soup and a rice dish with curried vegetables. It was well-priced and very filling. The juice and the ginger water were also very tasty. The service was quick and friendly, and there were menu options in Spanish and English. It's cash only, as are most establishments in the area. Make sure you stop by when you're in Ollanta!

This small restaurant on the main square quickly became one of our favorite breakfast and lunch spots in Ollantaytambo.
