We sat outdoor with a amazing glimpse of the alps which is possible during summer, the vibes and atmosphere made u feel like u are in italy! The food was also fantastic! And the prices are reasonable and relatively cheaper compare to the other restaurants/eatery we have been. Both waiter services were good and very thoughtful (sorry didnt get their names!). Would recommend to visit if you are in that region! The only downside was the flies during the summer and the random gust of wind that blow leaves on our tables. But the scenery, food and atmosphere makes up for the rest of it!

No doubt, the location and views are absolutely stunning. The Lager was clean as well, and the toilets/wash area is also well maintained. However this is where it stops. The accomodation/guest part really seem like a secondary concern to the people there, the main being their dairy farm. The cows do get ushered out super early in the morning (before dawn) and it is extremely loud, even with windows closed. The food was underwhelming. The soup and 'main' (some sort of cheesy risotto...?) were over salted to the max, I didn't even dare try the sausages swimming in some kind of broth either. I've had better food in other, equally remote huts. Which is a shame, because you arrive there exhausted due to the arduous trek there and all you want is some good food, and theirs was just a massive let down. Don't think I would stay there again, sadly for those walking the via alpina it's kind of the last stop before going even further and higher up (or down) to similar huts.

Don’t get me wrong, the fondue is delicious but you pay a hefty premium for the pleasure of eating it in an old school gondola. The gondola, sadly, is slightly mouldy round the edges, lacks a reliably working heater and is out the back of the hotel in a rather unaesthetic location. Was it an experience? Yes. Was it memorable? For sure. Would I do it again? No. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and gave us a discount due to the fact the heaters won’t working and the temperature was below freezing outside. With a bit of a spruce it could be amazing but for now I would say it’s not worth the premium when you can enjoy their delicious fondue in the restaurant.

Most importantly, they were able to make GLUTEN FREE accommodations for me, which was fantastic. We called 2 days in advance. They said they can also do dairy free fondue, we didn’t need that, but I know that may help others trying to enjoy. On our way up to Lauterbrunnen we were stopped by police becuase of a running race. Instead of turning around we asked them what's up that side road and they said go have a look. Wow, a nice drive up to a small village with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains with nice homes perched on the mountain side overlooking the valleys below. We had a quick coffee at the Cafe there and the guy told us about the small gondola uo to the top of the mountain where we could see where the cows go in the summer time. A few bucks later we were on our way up the mountain. When we got to the top there was a great little eatery at the gondola landing site. We sat there and had a small platter of local cheeses and other bits and pieces while we looked over probably the most beautiful views we had ever seen, with Lauterbrunnen well below us. After a quick eat we walked around the farm lands along some tracks to open uo the views ever further. The pictures I have attached are lovely and provide great memories for us, but they, by no means account for the grand vistas and awe you will feel when walking around up here. After later visiting the busy Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald, we decided our trip up this mountain was the highlight of our time in Switzerland. Do yourself a big favour and poke your nose up this road and keep following it until you see what I mean!

I know it may look like a simple sandwich and soup in the pictures. In reality, it was a fresh farm-to-table meal. I think my husband said it best. Thought this might be a ‘budget’ way of getting a view of Eiger, Monch & Jungfrau at a quarter of the cost of going up Mannlicken & hiking the Panoramaweg on the other side so we did this first & yes you do get a good view of the mountains but it’s simply not as good as the other side imho. However, It’s fun driving up to Isenfluh through the spiral tunnel & then catching the cable car. The bonus of going up this side is that it is a lot quieter than the other side of the valley, so if you want to get away from it all, this is probably your spot! We were going to hike to the Lobhornhutte but it was a very hot day & we were simply too tired after weeks on the road by this point so opted against it. Would conclude that Sulwald is a nice, relatively peaceful place to just chill for a couple of hours as we decided to do.

Don’t bank your whole vacation on the good reviews you see here, because obviously the experience can be VERY different. The service was excellent and friendly. The table bread with porcini dusted softened butter was baked perfectly and a perfect accompaniment to each course.
