We eat take out from Newport at least once a fortnight. It’s always fresh and tasty. We were looking for something different for our party for 85 people - mostly foodies! Palita and Ploid were nothing short of AMAZING throughout the whole process, suggesting the best dishes that would be the freshest and best value. They suggested the best vessels for the ease of catering. They are very knowledgeable. They were so accommodating and we have had incredible feedback since about the catering. They were wonderful to deal with, so so tasty and well priced and so fresh on the night. We HIGHLY recommend Cha Rice and wish them all the best in the future. We had Cha Rice tonight and remembered I hadn’t done a review yet that they so deserve! We will eat there forever!

We were surprised that the restaurant was empty (except for one table) and remained empty the whole night. For dinner we ordered two dishes that we shared - both signature dishes according to the menu: (1) Spicy crispy pork belly. The pork belly was beautifully cooked with the sauce and beans. Not particularly spicy. The really awful thing about this dish was both the amount of onion AND that the onion wasn't cooked - so it repeated on you for the next 12hrs. (2) Squid green peppercorns. Sadly the squid tasted like rubber - overcooked. And like the pork belly dish, there was an excessive amount of raw onion. The dishes were served within 5minutes of ordering, so a relaxed night out in a restaurant felt more like a fast food experience. The positiives - friendly attentive staff (lots of them) and byo. Sadly our first and last experience. And the worst Thai we've ever had.

Location itself is nice enough for being on a main road. Service could of been better as we and other patrons needed to prompt service staff to take our order and provide table tap water. We ordered the wontons and stuffed boneless chicken wings for entrees. The entree turned up as spring rolls and boneless chicken wings. (We didn't send them back as we were very hungry). Mains consisted of lime chicken , sizzling scallops and marinated fish. The lime chicken was very dry, the scallops were average at best however the accompanying vegetables were very nice. The marinated fish had a nice taste but it was more like shaved fish as opposed to proper fish pieces. I will say the Saigon beer was very nice. Alot of the above food commentary could be excused if it was reasonably priced (eg$80 -$90, much like you find Thai food pricing, but at $120 I think the food could have been better. Would we go there again, probably not but I would still recommend trying at least once as you may enjoy it better. Also it sounded like the staff were arguing out the back as there was alot of shouting that could be overheard.

Walked in and we were able to get seats but there were only two of us. The service is a bit slow and disorganised but the staff were very nice and friendly. Initially got our order wrong but luckily we were able to see what the staff was writing down before she walked off. The food came on a timely manner and they were all delicious. I know some people find that they taste similar to each other, but the menu is also very extensive. Sometimes there are the same ingredients but different meat. So I think it depends on what you select. For drinks - cocktails are not their forte so I would suggest just having wine or other drinks that don't have to be mixed and made. There are plenty of website which set out out the many issues with instant noodles. Putting aside the the pretty terrible taste, instant noodles tend to include MSG, starch, antioxidants, stabilisers, vegetable gums. minerals salts and so on - and that is not an exhaustive list. Suffice to say, instant noodles are not Ramen noodles. Not even close. Not even in the same hemisphere. The "$5 meat" was a few scraps of what I assume is beef, which frankly looked woeful. I nibbled a bit of one and found that it tasted the way it looked. The other "add on" ingredients were, to put it politely, "underwhelming". I called the restaurant, explained what I had just picked up and asked them whether or not the noodles were Ramen noodles, or instant noodles. To my surprised, they responded with: "Yes, we use instant 2-Minute noodles to keep the price down so that we can include better quality ingredients". I'm not sure how that makes any sense since the principal ingredients of Ramen are (a) noodles, and (b) broth, but perhaps that's just me. When I shared my impression of the quality of the "other ingredients" (see my above comment), I also reminded them that the beef actually costs $5 extra, was pretty awful all on its own, and that the "cheap" price of this particular dish was $16. Not so cheap for 2-minute instant noodles (which retail for around $1 per packet), scraps of meat, a poached egg and some frozen scallion. I didn't ask to speak to the manager mind you, but this was their approach to me raising the issues and so I accept that it was probably appropriate in the circumstances. The food is average but we mainly went for the gluten free Asian style food options. The second time we visited my husband and I received rude and quite frank worst service we have every experience. From the moment we walked in the lady serving us was very abrupt and not accommodating at all. My husband made a complaint about one of the dishes that came out (as it was very different to the dish we had the first time we were there and had basically hardly anything but sauce and 4 bits of tofu for $22). Needless to say the woman serving us was very aggressive and continued to argue. We had to walk away without eating. I have worked in customer service and I would never dream of speaking to a customer the way she spoke to us. I will be calling the manager tomorrow to complain.
