Food was okay, i’ve been here multiple times before and loved it yet today was below par, food was luke warm and took an eternity for mains and even longer for desert to come out, even though it was a Wednesday evening and there was our table of 3 and two other tables of 2 and 4, that was it. Very disappointed, as had traveled a distance to come here for a celebration and unfortunately didn’t feel like that from the staff, service or food.

Very attentive very knowledgeable and just such a wonderful woman. We grabbed drinks and sat down as instructed. I went back up after ordering food on the app and the woman was apologetic that my drink hadn’t been served yet. I was there for other drinks and told her not to worry. I then watched her run food out whilst doing everything else possible whilst trying to keep everyone happy. Might I add she was doing a brilliant job at that. I was served by another woman service wasn’t any where near as good as the other lady but then this wonderful woman finished off with my drink I’d ordered on the app. She served us our food and again I know I’m banging on about it she was just lovely. Served our mains asked us how our food was and just lovely. We went to leave and gave what little cash we did have as a tip but honestly it wasn’t anywhere near the value of the service she gave us. She is the show. She would be the only reason to return for me. Meal times were lengthy. It was fairly busy so to be expected and the fact she was doing every job herself. I can’t praise this woman enough. I should have asked her name but she’s a shining star and there’s no doubt she served everyone with the 5* service she showed us today. Thank you. You really stood out and you really made our day brighter! Never ever change! Food was great value for money and really tasty. I guess I’d better review that too.

I’ll be honest, I’m shocked this place has a 5 star hygiene rating. My glass was stained, my cutlery hadn’t been washed properly and the place in general wasn’t very clean. The day we stopped, the service was excellent, and the food was not slow in coming out. It was well presented and there was plenty of it, my wife and I had the Steak and Ale Pie, it was hot and filled with pie filling, the desert was just standard pub fayre these days... if it's not sweet it won't find its way onto the menu. Overall, a good place to bring the family and friends enjoy good food in a pleasant atmosphere, the bonus if the inside is full, there's plenty of alfresco area if required. A great find and I wish we were staying longer. We had family room and a twin for six of us plus a dog. We were a group of 8 adults and everyone enjoyed their meals.There was a good choice of food , the portion size was generous, the presentation was delightful and the price was very reasonable. The two ladies that waited on our table were very efficient, warm hearted and friendly. The pub is very old but very clean!!! It has a wonderful charm with it's stone floors, brick walls , beamed ceilings and an open fireplace. If wholesome, home cooking , excellent service and a countryside setting is what you want , look no further. This ticks all those boxes and is the perfect place to go. After popadoms we skipped starters and I went for the Hook Tandoori Special. Every bite was different, every bite was a pleasure to eat, it was faultless. Rooms were clean and comfortable, housekeeping staff kindly helped us up multiple sets of stairs with our luggage. As there were only four tables occupied, we asked if we could be seated early and were told to sit whenever we liked and our server would be with us shortly. The courtyard cafe has an international fusion approach to a breakfast menu, this is great to see and packs in exciting flavours into their dishes. Chicken Tikka Masala, Rice, Onion Baji and Keema Naan. The Taj wins hands down and it wasn't even close. This seems to be a much more authentic Indian Curry than down the road which was the bright red Masala you see lots of places. Monsoon is decent enough but The Taj is different league for us.
