The staff were friendly and the exhibits were a balanced combination of period artifacts in themed cases and interactive screens to better understand the story. While vacationing in Eastern PA, we had already gone to an amusement park a couple of days earlier so my wife mentioned that the kids already got their fill of an amusement park so wandering around the candy shop and the free tour would suffice. For over 50 years, Hershey's Chocolate World has been welcoming guests to get a fun behind the scenes look at how Hershey's Chocolate is made. Since my last visit the indoor queue has been significantly improved and the wait was absolutely minimal. The ride has changed some as well, but the singing cows from the major update probably 15 years ago are still there and I was also surprised to see a new addition of the baby cow, Buttercream. Later on in the ride there was also the addition of brand specific animatronic characters. While the ride was fun and a joy to share with my family, this particular visit I noted that multiple moving parts of the ride show were broken and in disrepair and the trademark chocolate smell in the conching room was completely absent. While this wasn't a deal breaker, it did take away a bit of the magic that I would normally expect. As you leave the ride, you are still given a small piece of chocolate which is always a welcome surprise for the uninitiated. And you will eventually wind your way back out to the expansive gift shop where you can find all kinds of Hershey's food products and branded merchandise for sale. Additionally, there are other paid add-ons like the Reese's Stuff Your Cup or Create Your Own Candy Bar experience. While we did not need it, the space appears to be accommodating for those with accessibility needs and I did note a ride car that appeared to allow for wheelchairs although it was unclear if any transfer would be required. Parking here is simple and signed well. The first 3 hours are free, but as of this writing the price then goes to $60 for the day. You'll want to keep an eye on your time, but if you're just stopping by for Hershey's Chocolate World, you should be able to cover most everything in that window without much trouble. If you happen to be visiting Hershey Park for the day, this is a nice way to soak in some air conditioning and get "one last ride" on the way to your car.

I like to visit a couple of times a year even though it's a 2.5 hour ride to get there. They have great exhibits which change every couple of months. We'd been once before a few years ago. This time was after participating in a very special event, their Model T Driving Experience, which was great! After a nice lecture the 9 drivers in our group were first a passenger with an instructor. Then they each got to drive 4 different Model T cars with the instructor. Feeling the breeze and the size of the seat, and seeing the small pedals and hand throttle was like living history. It was amazing and a thrill. The volunteers running the event were awesome - knowledgeable, friendly, kind and patient, doing everything they could to make it a great day. Only negative was that because we were booked in advance for the special event when we went into the museum we had landed on a day during the changeover of temporary exhibits. I would recommend checking the website for those dates before planning a visit. There are still quite a few permanent exhibits to see and some vehicles had been moved in already but they were missing the written description that are really wonderful on their exhibits.

We were 2 of 7 people in our group. The tour beginning time 10:30 AM started with training on the segways. The training was extremely long in the heat. But they should have provided 2 or 3 people to give the training for such a large group. Our guide was brand new and would give each person individual training in multiple tasks. While he was with someone the rest were left standing on the Segway with nothing to do. He should have told people to try riding and turning and practicing while he was with another person. I decided on my own to just ride around while he was busy and then the others did so as well. Had I known that the majority of the tour was training I would never have booked it. By the end of all the hurry up and wait my feet and legs were getting sore and tired. It took away from the fun that segways can be.

The tour included history of Mr. Hershey and his trials and success, the city and how it helps kids. The education about Milton Hershey and the town was a part of the experience and gladly not the focus of the tour so much as the riding. I love outdoor sports and Marc did a terrific job teaching us how to ride the machines and provided very detailed information about them too. It was all very fascinating. The trails thru the woods, field experience and tour of the hotel grounds was really nice. The property is beautiful and it's so impressive. This is a very good deal in comparison to other activities. This was actually my 4th or 5th time on a Seqway and with different guides. Marc was funny and easy to understand. He made us feel safe and gave us opportunities to chat, take photos, learn about the machines, the property, Mr. Hershey and even provided amenities to ensure we had a great time. I will definitely do this again and am even considering purchasing a pair of machines. It's nice to know the variety of products that Segway of Hershey offers and that they service the machines too! The website is not very informative as it only tells you prices *start* at $29.99 and makes you go to a different website altogether to see the actual hours. Seems they could do a better job listing the hours and the price for each day. When we arrived the price was $50.00 which is way overpriced for the experience. They also don’t have any discount for season pass holders. If this event was more appropriately priced it would earn more stars even with the below negatives. A lot of displays had lights out. The ‘tunnel of lights’ had literally 3 rows working and the rest were out. Parts of the road were in disrepair. One bump was so big it caused our minivan to actually bottom out. There were a lot of lights which is a plus….there was not a lot of motion with them and no displays that were synced to music or anything. They don’t have any special music, instead they direct you to tune to a local radio station that has not so great reception. The ending laser finale was pretty cool. Synced to music it would be even better. All in all if you are looking between here or Knoebels Joy through the grove, go with Knoebels. They have a set price of $25 so no surprises when you arrive, is also 2 miles in duration, and has much better themed sections with more inspired displays. Don’t get me wrong, Hershey’s Sweet Lights was impressive, just not what you would expect from such a big organization. Again, if this was more appropriately priced at say $20 it would be worth 4 stars even in its current condition.

There’s a few baseball diamonds and some nice flat soccer fields that I think are open to the public when they’re not in use. There’s also benches and picnic tables and nice views (especially if your at the top of the hill that parks on). The trails are really well maintained, there’s a big circle trail that’s partially smooth concrete and partially ‘nature’ (which just means hard packed dirt, rocks, and roots mostly through the trees) and the concrete trail continues for miles outside of the park so if you want to bike, skate, scooter, blade, run, or whatever you’ll grab plenty of trail to do it on. The nature trails you can’t used wheeled things on but they’re nice for running and walking (I got in a 10k ((6.2 miles)) and I didn’t have to run the same part of the trail more then ounce and I didn’t even reach the end of the concrete trail that continues out of the park so like I said there is plenty of trail to use). Parking lot on the bottom of the hill is good if your there to play disc golf, parking lots at the top are for the rest.

So it's nice you don't have to leave the main park to go to the water park. The water rides get pretty busy right away so your best bet is to go there right away and get right on some rides. The lazy river has gotten new tubes since the last time I was here two years ago. They're nice sitting tubes. The lazy river is very cold at the beginning of the year though, the wave pool is also very cold. I unfortunately broke my sandal while here and had to buy new ones but they sell any non flip flop sandals in either shop in my size which is a very common women's size shoe. All the sandals were size 10-11 in women's sizes which is nuts because that's much larger than the average women's size so I had to buy water shoes. The shop also doesn't let you try anything on and everything is non refundable, so I bought my son a $50 bathing suit that ended up being way too large. It'd be nice if they at least let you exchange it if you just bought it for another size. The food in the water park is pretty decent with the beer battered fish from The Shoreline Grill or the burgers from East Coast Burger Works are both good options but be ready to wait for those.
