Of course, the most important aspect is the food. While pricey, it's not substantially higher than other cafes in the region but it delivers exceptional quality, both in terms of presentation and flavour. The food is richly flavoured, with a good textural variety exceeding expectations. The obviously intentional choice of components is also excellent - usage of a crispy base layer (e.g. Toast or panko crumbs) to mop up sauces without becoming a soggy mess, sauces themselves seem to be home made (the hollandaise has that iconic 'layered' texture from not being overmixed) and good usage of supporting flavours/textures to improve edibility and cut through the richness (I note chives and basil are used for this). Aside from the actual consumption, the presentation is also fantastic, with dishes plated beautifully and generously. Restaurant was booked but was able to sit at the bar which was perfect when dining solo. Wasn't that hungry so only tried 2 entrees the raw fish and the rendang bao buns. Both different and yum! We followed this with the fresh goat cheese, which was like velvet, creamy and rich; butterfish crudo, beautifully fresh; venison tartare, tart with cherry, deliciously umami. For mains, we had the wagyu short rib, rich, tender and caramelised, with local fungus and a divine red wine jus (exceptional); soft, tender butterfish over a brilliant al dente risotto with a rich fish broth; and a side of honeyed carrots which were an absolute star. This was likely the best breakfast we have had in our travels in nz. They are pretty busy but they handle it well so it wasn’t a big deal. We found a seat immediately and by the by the server took our order. The food came out pretty quick given how busy they were. We got the fresh squeezed orange juice the Himalayan coffee and the Turkish eggs. So if you like a sweet coffee they serve the Himalayan with ice cream so I was all in. The Turkish eggs are served as flavor explosion that tickles the palate. Great fun. A word of caution: our second visit, we got croissants to go and said yes to having them hotted up. My advice is to ask her to to heat them half the time that she normally does. The pastry turns tough and the filling was molten hot! The bathrooms could use more attention.

It was listed as a main on their menu and there was no mention on the website or anywhere that there is no crayfish. Very disappointed. Ordered oysters, snapper and mussels. Oysters were great. The service and quality of food was just as I remembered. Friendly and attentive staff without being “in your face”, decent sized servings and flavours to die for. It’s predominantly a seafood restaurant given that it overlooks Lake Wakatipu, but there are “non-marine” options if seafood isn’t really your thing. There’s a lovely bar for pre-dinner drinks that has a glorious view of the mountains and lake. Well worth getting to your booking a bit early to enjoy it. Ready to order and we started with butterflied King Prawns. Delicately char-grilled and beautifully tender. For main, I opted for the Lamb Rack while my partner had the Eye Fillet. We both had food envy so sharing was definitely on the cards. Both meals were delicious, cooked to perfection and the accompanying sides were equally as tasty. Even though we were full from dinner, we couldn’t go past dessert. He went for the Sticky Date Pudding while I went for a lighter option and had a cheese board. Cons: we paid $37 per pax to dine in for breakfast and was not impressed. Variety was sufficient - egg station, salad, bacon/sausages, bread; however certain items like smoked salmon took a very long time to replenish and the plate was always empty. Even as they were alerted that it was empty, staff took a long time to replenish (it’s as if they are trying to limit customer’s intake) . Due to the change in offering the service is not up to scratch nor is the extremely small amounts of food available on the chefs table. I do feel sorry for you if you choose to dine on a busy day.
