Beautiful free place to visit have a good walk around the lake .So nice clean green well maintained park .They have good seating bench on short distances .Have a cafe inside the park. There was skating ramps inside too ,they have poo bags on entrance if you bringing your dogs 🐶 to keep the park clean amazing.
Spent 3 hours here to admire the huge pine trees and spring flowers, especially the cherry blossoms. The lakeside views were amazing in a sunny Sunday.
Queenstown Gardens are a brilliant example of enabling multi use facilities for the public. The gardens provide a serene walking experience around the edge of Lake Whakatipu with transitioning views of Queenstown & the surrounding mountains. You can play tennis, do Frisbee Golf as you walk around the gardens or even go ice skating. If you are staying in Queenstown this is a must & go a second time at night on the well lit walking paths.
Queenstown Gardens offers a peaceful, scenic escape just steps from downtown, making it an easy and worthwhile walk for anyone visiting the area. The paths wind through manicured flowerbeds, tall trees, and quiet lakeside viewpoints, creating a relaxed atmosphere. It is free, accessible, and beautiful in every season, with extras like a disc-golf course and open lawns that add variety to the experience. Ideal for a 30 to 60-minute stroll.
Nice spot for a walk around be it to see the flowers in bloom, walk the waters edge, play some frisbee golf or walk the trails. The spring flowers are the highlight though.
Lovely and well kept gardens in Queenstown. Gorgeous flowers and plants. It's very easy to spend several hours here just ambling around the grounds admiring the flowers and trees. Peaceful environment. Very family orientated for young and old.
Lovely garden to grt some time away from the bustle of the main streets. Multiple different paths around the gardens, and different activities. There's parks for kids, Frisbee golf, you cna cycle round (please take note of the signs to slow down and dismount!), theres also plenty of routes for dog walks. Lovely pieces of art on route, and as the garden comes into summer I imagine the rose garden will burst into life. As the garden runs alongside the lake do be mindful it can be windy and take layers! Plenty of shade/ trees for the summer too. Would recommend a visit. Theres also the local parkrun based here which takes you on a lovely tour around it - don't forget to volunteer as it keeps parkrun free and fun!
Beautiful gardens with a huge variety of unique and stunning flowers. Nice little cafe near the gardens. Plenty of shade and calm water features.

Kiwi Park is a short tour to pass by while in Queenstown. There will be a few species of birds and reptiles to watch on. The main attraction is the Kiwi visiting. Keep in mind that the Kiwi enclosure is very dark and no photos or flashes are allowed. Its a bit pricey but a cool experience.
Loved this place. Exhibits are set up and maintained nicely. The conservation show was really cool and interactive. The people doing the free honey testing were engaging. The animals of course were amazing to see up close especially the birds!
Lovely park where you can see Kiwi in a dark setting as they are nocturnal animals that are sensitive to light. We did the Wildlife Show when we entered the park in which we learned about the animals that live in NZ, afterwards we got a short but informative session in the dark habitat where currently four Kiwi live ("Kiwi encounter"). Recommend you to check out the timing of the two different highlights so that you won't miss it. During the Kiwi Encounter, the guide informed us that the aim is to set out the Kiwi back in the wild so that the population will increase.
Great place to see a live Kiwi and a bunch of other native new Zealand wildlife. No pictures of the kiwi as that isn't possible due to their dark habitat. We did manage to see 4/6 kiwis that currently live in the park. The two shows were very informative and entertaining for all ages. I would recommend to plan for about 2 hours in the park if you want to see everything. Afterwards you can enjoy a free honey tasting in the cafe. No sales pitch or push which was very refreshing.
Well-kept conservation environment with knowledgeable and friendly staff ✨ Be sure to bring some walking shoes cause the short stroll around the Kiwi Park can be tough for some. However, the enclosures and animals within are excellent. The staff are happy to assist in all instances and the indoor cafe is a great touch Don't be surprised to not have a 1-on-1 sit-down with any kiwis, but, the encounter tour certainly ticks the boxes and is a great way to see them up close while learning a bit more about them 📷 NO PHOTO OPS HERE 📷 Thankful to see family concessions and 30% for those with a gold card, however, as a tertiary student (and both of us being kiwis) it is one of the steeper costs that would've been justified to miss out on a holiday and spent on other spaces, but, no regrets for what we were able to spend in our instance!
We had a really nice afternoon at kiwi park! We arrived about 4pm so it was nice and quiet - made it in time to see the kiwis and the last show! The staff were all very friendly and knowledgable!
I found the ticket prices a little high at $60 per person even though it was great to see some kiwi's. The park is small and the exhibits were a little sparse. The walk around was good. Only spent just over an hour here.
Not What I Expected – It’s a bit pricey for what you get to see, but the money supports NZ’s conservation efforts. It’s a long park with cages for various birds. The Kea is the most interesting. Kiwis, however, are nocturnal, so you enter a very dark building to see them. It takes some time for your eyes to adjust and avoid stumbling into other people. The very dim light makes it difficult to see the birds, but they are active. BUT no photos are allowed.

Magnificent snow peaked mountain views ❄️. The Shuttle buses to the peak departs from Queenstown CBD 7:30 am onwards and the return bus is scheduled every half hour starting from 1:30 pm. Truly amazing experience 🤩.
We had an awesome time at Coronet. A truly magical place! It is easy to get to from Queenstown with well gritted road up to the top (thanks road staff). Shuttle buses from the lower carparks were a saviour! Food, whilst your usual ski slope pricey was pretty good and filling. Love the mulled ginger beer as well. Amenities are clean and serviced regularly. We booked private lessons for a couple of us, whilst expensive, was well worth it. Felt like we hit the jackpot and got Maclan who was absolutely amazing. Super friendly, super helpful, and really patient with us. He made our beginner experiences fantastic. The kids loved him too (including snowball fights) and he was great with them. We would highly recommend him if you are wanting lessons.
Actually photos . Great rental equipment and patient stafff member super helpful !! Te ski instructor’s made a pleasant experience for my fiancé and kids they loved it!! Time for a restaurant on the mountain!!! Epic views !!
It was my first time visiting a cold country such New Zealand and my first time trying out skiing and i didn't know how to stop/break so i kept falling down but overall it was such a wonderful experience. I get to try something new and out of my comfort zone! I came from Singapore, a hot country wth no snow and no seasons, only sun and rain. I didn't expect it would start snowing when we reacehd the top of the mountain... it was my first time seeing real snow and it was such a magical experience. I tried to catch the snow and it melted in my hands! 🤭
This is truly one of the best ski resorts I’ve ever been to. It’s much more spacious and comfortable than other resorts, with plenty of well-designed rest areas where you can relax and enjoy a meal without any hassle. I never saw anyone reserving seats or blocking space for others — everything felt fair and respectful. It wasn’t overcrowded at all, which made skiing so much more enjoyable. The views while skiing were absolutely stunning, and the overall atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing. Another huge plus is how close it is to downtown Queenstown — getting there was quick and easy, without any travel fatigue. I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Queenstown in the winter! ============================ Today, a month later, I received by mail the single glove my daughter had lost at the ski field. I’m truly grateful to the lost & found staff, Ngā mihi and Scott, for treating even one lost glove in New Zealand with such care and making the effort to send it all the way to the U.S. This experience makes me want to return to New Zealand next winter for skiing again.
It’s summer time so the fields are closed and there’s not as much snow but it’s still so beautiful and worth the breath taking views. Will definitely come back when it’s winter at some stage.
Visited Coronet Peak on June 26th, 2025, when Cardrona was closed due to weather—and I’m so glad I did! It’s super close to Queenstown, which made getting there quick and easy. While some areas were a bit slushy, overall the snow conditions were pretty good, especially considering the weather that week. The highlight, though, was the view—skiing with a full panoramic view of Queenstown below is absolutely incredible. It adds a whole new level to the experience. Bonus: they offer night skiing on Wednesdays and Fridays, which is such a cool feature and gives you extra time on the slopes. Definitely worth checking out, especially if you’re based in Queenstown or looking for a more accessible option with stunning views.
Great place in New Zealand to go snowboarding. Took some lessons with Miltos for snowboarding and he is an excellent instructor. Incredibly patient with me despite my shortcomings.

Great walk for a Sunday afternoon. Good work out and beautiful views. Popular spot but we always had a car park.
Very pretty lookout spot. Right next to a hiking trail, with lots of parking by it.
Got to go to the top of the station and enjoy the view. Go on the 4wheeler tour you'll love it.
A great walk or run but need a good level of fitness as steep in places but the views are epic.
I have been QT hill 3 times, it's very nice and easy walk way to get to the hill, love so much.
A nice warmup for Ben Lomond or a nice running place for daily training. This is a clean track, easy to access and rather quick to do
A good place for a walk up and very scenic from the lookout point
Loved the walk up with the kids. In winter they'll love the frozen lake on top. Check out my website.

What a lovely place to ski! Very efficient shuttle system and zero hassle. Big ups to Max (our instructor) who was very passionate about skiing and very skilled at teaching adults, including explaining the Newtonian mechanics of how it all worked! Was able to go from zero to be able to do some green runs after a 3 hour lesson.
Beautiful slopes with great variety, also some amazing food at reasonable slopes prices. Our instructor (Luis Miguel) was absolutely amazing and did great with patience and explaining how to do things in an engaging and understandable way. I can say my skiing improved greatly after being with him. Highly recommend him to teach lessons.
Nice ski area with great views and a relaxed atmosphere. We visited in late July and barely had to wait for the chairlifts, which was a pleasant surprise. Some areas had limited snow coverage, though, so take care on the slopes. Overall, a fun experience even in the off-season!
wonderful place to visit in Queenstown. However, the road can be quite challenging during the winter season compared to Coronet Peak, with sudden changes in weather. It is recommended to use snow chains or a 4WD vehicle; alternatively, you can take the bus service from the car park. Even if you are not a skier, there is a dedicated area for kids and families on the left-hand side, which makes it enjoyable for everyone. Food prices are reasonably fair, and hot water is available on site. There is ample space outside, but it is more comfortable to stay indoors while having a meal, as it can get very cold.
Better than cornet peak, however drive is not for the faint of heart , 1 wrong move and its instant death, thanks to hardly no physical protection. Resort is small and once parking is filled attendee will direct/ insist you park exceptionally close to the almost 90 degree edge of the mountain. After a risky drive your met to a pretty average resort, its Okey but not great by any means.
first timer lesson and instructor was good but beware staff at rentals some can be hostile towards asians (caveat not all). instructors were good and fun. tad crowded but overall great experience
The slopes are very good provided you get some good snow. The whole place is not that big but they do a good job in maintaining it. The bus shuttle service and parking is good. Tha biggest problem I have with the place is that it’s too damn crowded and during the lunch hour it’s impossible to find a place to sit down. Either don’t sell so many passes or expand the area. The skiing is almost twice as expensive as Europe but nowhere close to Europe in facilities. That being said, this best is best option in NZ and Queenstown is so much more than just skiing. Btw, the staff is great and super helpful! 5 stars to the staff and none for the management/owners.
Had a great 10 days skiing The Remarks. The instructors were particularly good with our kids aged 7 and 5 - always very accommodating and familiar. My son was particularly pumped with his time with a young instructor, Kaay. Thanks for getting the kids going so well on the slopes

The only place with a food court in Queenstown. Easy place for a group of people to satisfy all their likings and cravings. I had Thai food which was yum, spicy pork belly rice was actual spicy. Cassette was yum as well for Italian pasta so was Japanese , sushi
The mall has multiple entrances on Camp Street as well as Beach Street. It is a Duty Free shop so many of the items there are quite expensive. It covers three levels of shopping and a food court (eatspace) at the bottom. The shop was quite nice to walk through since they do have interesting items. There is also a nice seating area on the top floor. I did enjoy walking around and looking at the products even if they were quite expensive.
the Thai place inside the mall is very good, the food. however the lady in the POS is EXTREMELY rude, I have been going there with my friends over some time now and she always treats us badly, not great for someone’s who’s job is only to be nice to ppl :)
Good food court. Then 2 levels of useless products
Really great food court to visit in the heart of Queenstown.
Seems like they cater mostly to the Asian tourists. I did not like being followed by the security staff when I was browsing the clothes and cosmetics area. (I don’t look poor or act suspiciously, but apparently they do that to everyone.) It just made me want to leave the place as I did not have a feeling I was welcome in the store.
Pretty Empty and you can go for McDonald's.

Beautiful lake with blue water and surrounding of mountains makes it just magical, enjoyed a lot what a natural beauty , 💕
Beautiful lake surrounded by mountains. Next go queenstown with lots of food options. One of the best views is on deer park heights.
Words cannot describe how beautiful Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu is. It is one of the most beautiful destinations in New Zealand and one of the most popular. Near the city center of Queenstown there are many shops, restaurants and bars. Near the city center you can also pick a tour company for your famous shotover jet tour.
Right next to Queenstown this lake doesn't need an introduction. Its beautifully shaped and the views are magnificent. Also a lot of activity going on around the lake since its one of the main attractions for visitors from abroad. Hopefully I'm able to revisit this place again in the near future.
What more could I add about this iconic lake. I'll let the photos convince you why you should make a visit and see and experience for yourself.
This place needs no introduction. What you may need to know is where to park for FREE! I wish someone told me this before I visited! There is plenty of paid parking available including street paid parking and parking lots. However, the best 4 Hour FREE parking I found was in Queenstown skate park, just adjacent to Queenstown Gardens. Its not a big lot, but usually easy to get parking if you have some patience and good luck! From here, it's just a 10 minute walk through the beautiful garden to get to the lake.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Lake Wakatipu in stunning New Zealand, and I cannot say enough positive things about this magnificent destination. From the moment I set foot on its shores, I was captivated by its breathtaking beauty and alluring charm. First and foremost, the lake itself is nothing short of awe-inspiring. Surrounded by majestic mountains and lush greenery, the crystal-clear turquoise water stretches as far as the eye can see, creating a serene and picturesque setting that left me in complete awe. The vistas are truly breathtaking and provided the perfect backdrop for countless memorable moments. Aside from the stunning scenery, Lake Wakatipu offers an array of recreational activities that cater to all interests and skill levels. Whether you are seeking adventure or simply wish to unwind in nature's embrace, there is something for everyone. From hiking and biking along scenic trails to boating, fishing, and even jet skiing on the pristine waters, the options are endless. The lake's natural beauty truly invites exploration and instills a sense of adventure. Moreover, the surrounding towns and villages, such as Queenstown and Glenorchy, effortlessly enhance the overall experience of visiting Lake Wakatipu. Packed with charming shops, delicious eateries, and vibrant nightlife, these towns showcase the immense warmth and hospitality of the local community. I was welcomed with open arms and felt a genuine sense of belonging throughout my stay. It is also worth mentioning that Lake Wakatipu has a rich cultural heritage that adds depth to its already extraordinary allure. The area is steeped in Maori history and legends, which can be explored through various cultural tours and attractions. These experiences allow visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the land's indigenous roots, further enhancing the overall experience of any visit. Lastly, but certainly not least, I must commend the people of Lake Wakatipu for their unparalleled hospitality and warmth. The locals are incredibly friendly and helpful, always willing to go the extra mile to ensure an unforgettable experience. Their genuine smiles and welcoming nature truly embody the spirit of New Zealand, leaving a lasting impression that will forever hold a special place in my heart. In conclusion, Lake Wakatipu is an absolute gem that should be on every traveler's bucket list. Its unparalleled natural beauty, numerous recreational activities, vibrant towns, intriguing cultural aspects, and welcoming community create an experience that is nothing short of extraordinary. I am grateful for the opportunity to have visited this enchanting destination and cannot wait to return.
Gorgeous Lake flanked by majestic mountains and right by Queenstown. To truly enjoy all the views of the lake: * Take a steamer or ship across the lake (like the TSS Earnslaw) * Enjoy the lake side in Queenstown * Drive to Glenorchy and enjoy the many spots on this gorgeous drive by tbe lake * Take the Skyline Gondola up and view the lake

Gorgeous hike! Pretty nice as you start off in the forest with the tiki trail, after that you have an easy walk towards the saddle and the last kilometre will give you the rest! Very hard ascent but definiteky wirth the view up top! Just keep going!!💪🏽💪🏽
We started this hike from the Tiki Trail not where it is marked. This was the best hike that we did in New Zealand. It was extremely challenging for us as we did it on our 16th day and we had done several other hikes prior. Unfortunately the winds were high so we didn’t feel safe to climb to the very top. We still count it as a win. We started the hike an hour before sunrise and did not experience any people until just before the saddle. It was such an incredible hike, we recommend doing it before the gondola starts to avoid the crowds. Also it’s still worth doing if you only make it to the saddle!
Quite tough to find the start point for this track. Had to go through a construction site and then up a hill to a little bridge. Track is marked it most spots but doubt can creep into your mind when there are no markers. Snow was on the track quite early and was very icy. It was a lovely warm day. Quite hard i would say. Took my around 4hr to go from start to finish including summiting Ben lomond. No including breaks.
Amazing hike. Total hike was 12 miles. Took 2 miles via Tika trail just to get to the starting point. So the actual Ben Lomond track ended up being 6 hours - 8 miles. Pretty tired! Gradual incline the first 2 hrs but the last 1 hr is very steep incline! Gets pretty windy up there so I needed a jacket. Bring lots of water and snacks! We ended up taking 7 hrs to complete the hike. We had to park on the street and we’re able to find free parking. Highly recommend but difficulty is very hard (coming from an American standard). Beautiful views! This hike is very advanced and challenging. would not recommend if you are not a hiker. Going downhill was quite hard on my knees. And I’m 29 years old. And healthy and in shape. I even had to go backwards during certain parts of the downhill because it felt better on my knees. Even at times, walking sideways down the mountain! I think Roy’s peak has a better view at the top, however, I loved the view of the mountains and trees and lakes along the way up the hike!!! I would say this hike was very similar in intensity as Roy’s peak.
In late June in some sections we experienced minimal snow but lots of packed ice! Prepare accordingly!
This hike has some really amazing views. If you're able, go up to the summit instead of stopping at the saddle - the 360 view at the summit is really exceptional.
Amazing panoramic views ..it's a good 7 hours hike...carry lots of water.
If you are NOT a regular hiker or do not regularly work out, listen up dear reader. We started at 8am at the tiki track feeling confident. We were (only just) smart enough to pack 2l water each, snacks and lunch rolls (from the bakery) with waterproof and wind proof jackets and layers. You will need all of this to survive. This track is marked “advanced.” Do yourself a favour and read the official website recommendations. There’s a reason very well equiped and very happy, fit looking people bound up this trail. We pushed ourselves up and it was tough, but getting to the top was a great feeling! I thought to myself, yes I’ve done the hard bit! But this is where it got sketchy. Coming down. Down that mountain…. It would appear that at 38 years of age and with only sporadic exercise efforts to speak of, my knees were not up to the task (apparently there are some downhill muscles engaged I don’t usually use). I’d like to add that I am slim with no injuries to speak of. The pain was really quite bad and I walked at least a km backwards. Yes you read that right, I completely cast off all sense of dignity in the effort to get myself back down that mountain. I honestly considered rolling sideways down the grassy patches, even got a piggy back at one point while we considered our options. As concerned and well meaning people (even kids were on the track bless their little happy knees) skipped past me, I was hobbling backwards. I was at one point thinking I might have to be airlifted out. Needless to say I forked out the $35 to go back down via the gondola by the time I gratefully hobbled towards it. We finished by 3.30pm (7.5hrs all up) but I held us both up on the return trip with my very regular breaks/breakdowns. The other one of us is 40 and apparently has fabulous downhill hiking knees, but I’m not bitter about that at all. My knees were too sore to walk downhill even on concrete the next day. Be realistic about your fitness and knee health. If you’ve made it this far reading the review, I hope it was helpful. The view really is spectacular.

We had a large group cave tour and wine tasting last week with Melissa, and another tour this week with Allaira. Both were absolutely amazing!! Allaira and Melissa are both so knowledgeable about the history of the region and the Gibbston Valley Winery. They made this a great time for all! The additional wine and cheese boards we ordered after our tour were perfect as well. Delicious all around! We will definitely return again. Thank you to all who made this such a memorable experience for our groups!!
The experience was okay, but I found the winery to be quite commercial and lacking the charm and personal touch you sometimes get in smaller places. It was also very busy, which made it feel a bit rushed. The wines were fine, but in my opinion it’s not really worth the stop when there are so many other wineries in the area that offer a more special and memorable experience.
We were a bit underwhelmed with the winery itself - could really use a refresh to the interiors and perhaps even the branding. The wine was nice, but not a stand-out in the region. The saving grace for us however, (despite the commerciality) was the cheesery! We sampled a bunch of delicious cheeses (unfortunately we couldn’t take any home to Australia) and we also purchased some of the Pinot noir truffle chocolates which were DIVINE! So much so, we made a special second trip back to the winery just to purchase more for ourselves and for a gift. Didn’t try the Chardonnay chocs (not into white choc) but highly recommend the Pinot noir truffles and the Pinot noir fudge - 5 stars for those!
Stopped here for a self drive wine tour of the region and was a great way to start the day! The venue was great and the cellar door is set up nicely. Our main waiter was Jules who was amazing. He was very interested in our likes and plans for the day, passing on his recommendations for other stops on the way. He made sure to talk us through each wine we tried and how it was created. The wines were delicious and sitting by the fire was very cosy.
Our tour with Ange was absolutely incredible! As someone who doesn’t know much about wine but loves drinking it, I really appreciated how he shared so much interesting information without getting too technical. He took the time to make sure we understood each tasting profile, and his friendliness was unmatched. You could really see his passion for what he does, Gibbston Valley is lucky to have him! Hard to believe it was only his third time running a tasting tour; he definitely deserves a pay rise! Micah + Ben
This winery is beautiful! From the outside seating area, to the cellar door inside and the wine cave with it’s constant temperature of 14 degrees. The scenery in the valley is stunning and the whole layout of the winery is well thought out. As we were a little early for our booked tasting, a glass of pinot noir helped the time fly by. Well as they say….when in Rome 😛 Our tasting started with a small tour and explanation of the vineyard before heading over to the wine cave for our tasting. We tried a variety of reds and whites as well as the bubbles and I enjoyed them all. Usually, there is at least one that I don’t like but not this time. There is a cheesery and deli on site but to be honest, I forgot to have a look. Unlike me as I’m a big cheese and charcuterie fan! I did get to sample some chilli salami from one of the guys on our tour and it was delicious. Recommend popping into Gibbston for a wine tasting, but suggest that you book.
We did the winery tour and tasting on the 22/10/25. It was fantastic! Our guide, Jules, was very charismatic and funny. We were only supposed to try four different wines, but because there was only three of us and we were the last tour of the day we tried six wines, which were all lovely! Great way to spend the afternoon, definitely recommend!🤩
Tough to rate this in entirety, but we love the salmon and thought the cave wine tour was just alright. 🐟 having arrived early, we decided to take a seat in the restaurant and get some bites, but was tempted by the market fish which was a salmon and thought to share a plate - and it turned out to be the best we had! The salmon was really fresh, cooked to perfection, and had the right amount of seasoning too 💯 🍷 While we didn’t book the wine tour online, we reached at 2pm for the 3pm tour and didn’t get a good first experience before we even booked the visit. The wine tour itself was alright, started off at the vineyards with a brief description of how the vineyard came about and some background on the wines they have. This was followed by a cave tour, which if we heard right, took 3 months and 1.5 tonnes of explosives to create - definitely a unique experience. That said, the wine tasting was done right inside the cave, which to some extent was alright but felt a little rush since the entire experience was capped at 30 minutes, i.e we had to finish all 3 wines and leave within the allocated time slot. It most certainly wasn’t our favourite wine tour nor the best wines we have tried nor the best overall service. One that we find hard pressed to rate since we really enjoyed the food and the ambience with the alfresco dining - with a sub par wine tour experience.

You need to be there!!! In Autumn the forest goes superb colorful. Best time to visit is around late April. You can spend 1 day in the town and half-day hiking at the river :). Enjoy~
A must walk or even better rent a bike from Better By Bike in Arrowtown and ride the trail down the river.
Could spend hours here skipping rocks and swimming. Bring mosquito repellent. Plus, Arrowtown is near by so you can visit there as well.
Beautiful quiet clean and dog friendly region... We trail run frequently along this river... just Brilliant
Great place to explore and find minerals
Gorgeous! A must see river.

The walk itself is around 2-3 hours long, depending on your fitness level. It’s a pretty easy walk, with a gradual elevation gain. The view is stunning. The only thing to know is that the last 15-20 minutes of the drive towards the parking lot are on a gravel road. It also can be pretty windy and rainy there, so check forecast in advance
One of my most favourite walks in the Queenstown area for my fitness level isn’t the best. I felt like a knight with his horse and sword it was tranquil and very peaceful. Took me and my brethren only two hours
20 mins drive from Queenstown through some narrow unsealed road towards the lake. Breathtaking views. The track is 2.30 hours round the lake or shorter if you’re fast walker. Well worth it.
Just a short drive from Queenstown, this hidden gem offers a true escape into nature. The road in is unsealed and dotted with potholes, so a bit of care and confidence behind the wheel is needed—but the journey is part of the adventure. When we arrived, the lake was lightly frozen, its surface dusted with delicate ice. The views were stunning, the air crisp and refreshing. It’s the perfect place to disconnect from the world—quite literally, as there was no phone signal. Peaceful, quiet, and absolutely worth the visit.
A picturesque and quiet place. Worth the effort of driving along the narrow road. Better use a 4WD especially in wet weather.
Hidden - definitely super well hidden. A very slow drive was required to reach the lake and the terrain was slippery and narrow. We almost gave up partly due to a lack of network connectivity and uncertainty of the location. Gem - no. Personally, it is not worth the insane drive in. The distance was little, but the time taken to traverse was disproportionate. There was not much of a scenery to take in. People probably drive in here to camp overnight or to have picnics. Bonus tip - highly recommend to clear your bowels before adventuring in here, if you wish.
Visited this place in 2023, very tranquil and peaceful
Moke Lake is a very pleasant, varied and scenic circular walk. It is on an excellent track of 6.2km with 108m of gentle elevation gain in total. It took us 2 hours at a gentle pace with stops to admire the great views. There are no rough parts but there is a boardwalk across a wetland which had a 20m section with a few cm of water when we did it in November (see photos) - so you need decent boots or get wet feet. To get there drive 7km out of Queenstown on the Glenorchy Road, turn right and drive for another 7km. The road becomes a gravel track but it is OK with an ordinary car in dry conditions. The parking area is also a well equipped camp-site with toilets, washrooms and water taps. Total outing duration from Queenstown was 3.5 hours including drive and admiring the views.

Also joining others to show our deepest gratitude to Queenstown isite and give a shout-out for Sandy who helped us throughout the entire trip and made it one of the very best trips EVER! We are so lucky to have found this gem and we can’t thank Sandy enough. From the overall planning of the itinerary, arranging the most exciting activities, to car rental and tickets booking, Sandy was there every step of the way. She’s extraordinary level of care, diligence, and dedication has made huge differences. we would highly recommend Queenstown isite for your NZ trip needs! Thank you so much Sandy!
We had the pleasure of being assisted by Sandy during our holiday in Queenstown. Even though we planned our journey around south Island, Sandy was very knowledgeable and adjusted our plans around Queenstown very efficiently to save us time and money. Sandy and all the staff were very friendly and professional and we would highly recommend Queenstown isite Visitor centre to anyone travelling to Queenstown....
Very Helpful and Patient Frontline Staff who explained all the possible options for our Milford Day Tour.
Huge thanks to staffs here. Sandy spent hours walking me through almost every option that matched my interests, even pulled up videos on the spot so I could compare, and planned around the weather with practical alternatives. Although the tours were cancelled in the end due to bad weather, her patience and professionalism were outstanding. I’ll definitely come back next time.
All of the staff here were very helpful and friendly. They give great info and explain all the options with no pressure. Riya was an absolute standout - not only did she spend ages helping me, but she remembered when I came in on a subsequent day, asked about my experiences etc - given the hundreds of people she must serve, it's really impressive that she remembers people.
I would like to provide feedback regarding an interaction with a staff member at the information desk, a Taiwanese lady. She was helpful in providing directions to the Cardrona shuttle pickup point. However, she then proactively added that the ticket seller at that location "only speaks English," based on an apparent assumption that I, as a mainland Chinese visitor, would not be able to communicate in English. While this was likely intended to be helpful, being automatically presumed to lack language ability based on my background felt unnecessary and slightly offensive. It represents a kind of unconscious stereotyping that can make customers feel undervalued. In today's globalized world, I hope staff can avoid making initial assumptions about guests' capabilities and instead offer assistance only when it is clearly requested. Thank you for considering this perspective.
I asked whether booking the jetboat tour online would be cheaper and was told the price was the same. After paying, I found out the online price was actually about $10 cheaper. The staff member I dealt with was tired and seemed careless. Overall, quite a disappointing experience. I would not recommend this place.
Shop assistant Annalise is really helpful! Her recommendation was very nice and exciting. I had a very good time in Queenstown with her suggestions !

We had a wonderful time at Chard Farm! Their wine tastings are indeed known for their charm and romantic atmosphere. The setting, with its picturesque vineyards and rustic elegance, adds so much to the experience. The way the hosts explain the nuances of each wine—the flavors, aromas, and craftsmanship—truly elevates the tasting to an art form. Thank you Mr: D
This is an absolute treasure of a winery with some of the best Gibbston valley Pinot Noir and delightful surprises such as a Central Otago Sauvignon Blanc with characteristic NZ South Island tropical pop of passion fruit! Who knew this was possible so far south! Chelsea, our wine tasting host, an educator really, looked after us exceptionally well. We enjoyed the tasting and learnt a lot in the process! Thoroughly recommended!
What a special place. From the turn into the vineyard it was absolutely beautiful. The hospitality, wine, and grounds were absolutely stunning! Jimmy was there to guide us through the whole experience and honestly made it that much more memorable - his charisma was superb. His wealth of knowledge on the property and wine was key. If you want to visit a top notch family owned winery this is the one to see!!
I came back to this winery probably fourth or fifth time - going will all my friends who are first time in New Zealand or Queenstown , and this time I took my parents visiting from overseas. We really enjoyed our tasting. Very welcoming atmosphere and delicious wines. Special thanks to Pauline who conducted our tasting and showed us around in the winery where the bottles and barrels are stored. The views of the canyon were stunning. We also enjoyed the installations in the winery with a cute pig family made with wires and a girl on a bicycle made of wooden roots. The only problem my parents had - they did not manage to take all bottles we bought with them back overseas, we finished a few just days later while still in New Zealand!!
What amazing wines from the 2nd oldest winery in the region. Our tasting with Dominic was perfection - loads of information, knowledgeable answers to all questions, colorful adjective-laden descriptions, and most of all - true passion for wine & the bottles being poured. And gorgeous property to top it all off!
Jimmy is a legendary host. We hadn’t booked our wine tasting today but Jimmy accommodated us and entertained us while educating us about Chard Farm wines. Highly recommend visiting Jimmy and experiencing his knowledge. We were all impressed with his descriptions and passion.
Chard Farm is easily one of the most picturesque vineyards in Gibbston Valley - tucked away on a scenic drive that feels straight out of a postcard. But what truly made our visit memorable wasn’t just the stunning location or the exceptional wines - it was the experience crafted by Jimmy. Jimmy has this effortless charm and deep knowledge that turns a simple tasting into a story. He doesn’t just pour wine - he walks you through the journey of each bottle with humor, warmth, and a personal touch that makes you feel right at home. His storytelling style, attention to detail, and the way he connects the wine to the land and the people behind it really set the tone for a perfect afternoon. We left not just with bottles of wine, but with memories that’ll last long after. If you’re visiting Gibbston Valley, make sure Chard Farm is on your list - and if you’re lucky, have Jimmy guide you through the tasting. It’s an experience you won’t forget.
I had a really good wine testing here. Some were some of the best wine I've tried outside of Europe (and I'm french, I know my stuff). Really nice welcoming by Jimmy, a very friendly passionate guy who provide really good explanations ! The track to the winery is beautiful !

The very friendly Emma sorted myself and two kids out with a Time Tripper visit. We were down at the foreshore quite early and were the only ones in the room for the viewing. The interactive movie was entertaining and done well. The Maori story was engaging. When the movie was done the screens raised and 100s of large fish, eels and ducks were there in their natural habitat for us to view. A nice way to spend 30 minutes with the kids.
We had voucher from booking and we needed an attraction just to kill time. The story which is been projected is interesting but over within 15Min. After that the ducks and the fisch on the lake get food, and as you are under the lake level you can observe them. I will never spend the full price which was 20$ for this.
Time Tripper is a short but memorable experience right in the heart of Queenstown. You purchase your ticket upstairs, then head down at your scheduled time to a cozy mini-theater located underwater! The experience starts with a chance to observe the local fish swimming right outside the large glass window — it’s a peaceful and mesmerizing view. Then, you’re shown a short film (around 10–20 minutes) that dives into the fascinating history of Queenstown. It was genuinely interesting and informative, offering insights I hadn’t heard before. I do wish the video had been a bit longer, though — it felt like it ended too quickly, and I would’ve loved to learn even more. After the movie, it’s feeding time! Food is dropped into the water from above, and suddenly you’re surrounded by fish rushing in. It’s a great moment to take photos or videos, especially of the ducks — they dive deep and fast, which is really impressive to watch. The whole experience lasts around 30 minutes and is definitely worth it if you’re looking for something a bit different to do in Queenstown.
The attraction is one room under the pier with windows onto the harbour. Starts with 12 minute video about the pre history of the lake, geological past and Maori legends. This was ok but could have done so much more. The curtains raised and the fish were fed. Large fish, eels and ducks diving - really cool. However, we would have really liked a fish identification chart so we could know what we were looking for. We were out again in 20 minutes. Not worth $20.
It was a good show depicting the history of the Whakatipu lake in 3D surround sound. The small show theater is placed below the ground showcasing the underwater environment of the lake. We could see the eels swimming around freely. At the end of the show the crew fed the fish & diving birds ate it too, which looked spectacular. Although the show was good, I'm not very sure about what someone may feel about its entry fee worth the $20.
I couldn’t believe what was hiding under the lake! We weren’t quite sure what we had booked in our k-jet package but I am so glad we get to experience this! You wouldn’t know it’s there but it is definitely worth it and such a cool activity. Got to see an abundance of animals underwater after too! Definitely book if you see this!
This was so much fun, I thought my 14 and 13 year old boys might be to old to enjoy this but I was wrong. It's really fun, the ducks are hillarious. The time tripper movie was really cool, I learned a lot from it and the way the movie was done felt like the whole room was actually moving. A VR experience.
Very good for kids. Educational and interesting too. After the show, pls wait for a while because the feeding time just starts

Great experience and an absolutely amazing venue, yes the tasting isn't cheap but was wiped when purchasing bottles. Bonus they do large format bottles too
We had a fantastic tasting at Peregrine Wines—warm, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable staff made the experience a standout. The building and barrel room were absolutely stunning, and the wines were exceptional—especially the Pinot Noir, which was a clear highlight.
A beautiful vineyard to visit in Gibbston! I visited on 31 July 2025 and did a wine tasting of 4 of their wines; Méthode Traditionelle NV, 2023 Chardonnay, 2022 Pinot Noir and 2016 Library Release Pinot Noir. I enjoyed all 4 wines, although the Méthode Traditionelle and 2016 Pinot Noir were the highlight for me I will highly recommend a visit to Peregrine Wines and I will surely be back to purchase their wines
Big name winery, but wines weren't anything too special and pour sizes are very stingy. $30 for your choice of 4 wines. The pour sizes were 30 ml or less, could barely get a good taste of the wines. Was done in about 10 mins. Small standing only tasting room that serves 2 groups or individuals at a time so best to make a reservation
peregrine is such a stunning wedding venue! As a wedding photographer, I believe that your wedding photos should reflect the feeling on the day and weddings I've captured at Peregrine always have a feeling of joy, relaxation and intimacy. The woodshed is like nothing else in Queenstown and the view will keep your guests in awe all day!
As usual, excellent customer service with wine tasting and explanation about all things wine. Free wine tasting if you buy 2 bottles.
Good selection of white wines if you are less into red wines and Pinot Noir. Very good rosé !
Lovely cellar door with curated pre booked experienced for people who like a more personal touch. Personally found the pours to be more then generous and we liked most of the wines! The method traditionelle sparkling, chardonnay and all the pinot noirs were particular favourites! Like all the reviewers said, your wine tasting is refunded on the purchase of 2 bottles of wine.
