Queenstown in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Queenstown, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
From bungee jumping, white-water rafting, jet boating, skydiving and mountain biking to lugeing, glacier hiking, caving, horse trekking and helicopter sightseeing, you can do it all in Queenstown. There are also plenty of opportunities for relaxation, such as massages, shopping, and wine tasting, and you can visit the many beautiful lakes and mountains surrounding the town.

Fergburger is a bustling eatery in Queenstown, New Zealand, renowned for its gourmet burgers crafted from a variety of meats including beef, chicken, and other unique proteins. Since its establishment in 2000, Fergburger has become an iconic culinary destination in the area. Visitors are encouraged to experience the juicy and generously filled burgers firsthand to form their own opinion about the hype surrounding them.
A must-visit. Massive burger and one of the best I have ever had. Very busy place. Despite the long lines, the queue moved surprisingly fast for me. Worth it for the quality and flavour. Seating is limited, so be prepared to grab and go or eat standing but honestly, the burger steals the show.
Amanda O — Google review
This place deserves the hype! Definitely one of the best burgers I've had. I wish I could try all the burgers because the Sweet Bambi and Ferg Delux were amazing. I was really impressed with the speed given how many customers were waiting. People move quickly so even though seating might not be available there may be soon. I also ordered the onion rings, they were nice but the sauce carried wow
Arz E — Google review
We were there late Sep. It was Super long queue as expected, slowly but surely. Burgers are huge and surprisingly very juicy. I really like it. Generous on mayonnaise and sauces. We packed and went to lake so we can enjoy a view with these yummy burgers. Highly recommended. Is a Must try if you are at Queenstown!
Eileen S — Google review
If you're in Queenstown, Fergburger is a must. It shows up on every “best places to eat” list, and it really does live up to the hype. Even if you see a crowd outside, don't let that discourage you — the staff are friendly and they turn over orders fast. We visited on a Friday afternoon, and we only waited about 5–10 minutes to order. However, we have heard that waits can be much longer (up to an hour) during weekends or peak dining times. Seating inside is limited (a few barstools and small tables), so many people take their food to-go, but we were able to grab seats at the counter. I ordered the Fergburger with double meat (two patties, cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, garlic aioli) for $21.50 NZD. My wife ordered the Southern Swine (beef patty, bacon, same toppings plus avocado) for $18.90 NZD, onion rings ($9.90 NZD) and a hokey pokey milkshake (vanilla with honeycomb toffee for $12.20 NZD). The burgers are large, the buns are toasted and hold everything together, and the patties were juicy and flavorful. The onion rings were crispy, and the milkshake was rich and creamy. There’s a tv monitor inside showing when orders are ready, and there’s also a restroom available. Great flavor, big portions, and fast service. Definitely worth stopping by when you’re in Queenstown.
Justin M — Google review
Packed place even at 10am however the line did move quickly. Ordered in 5mins of joing queue and food ready 5mins after. Pretty quick. Too busy to be nice to eat there but awesome to take away to a better veiw of the lake and mountains. Burgers overall were disspointing. Bit bland. Not worth the hype. Size was great so feel full but I know ive had better burgers. Whatever they are doing to draw in tourist (Asians) market, they are doing very well. Cant see how myself, but fair play to ferg, must be raking it in.
Ben C — Google review
Fergburger absolutely lives up to its hype. You must have this when you are in Queenstown! JUICY patties and super loaded with toppings, it’s the kind of darn good burger where you know you are going to get messy, and you won’t even mind. We ordered the Big AL and the classic Fergburger (double patty with cheddar). We preferred the Big Al because of the mix of textures and flavours, especially with the relish and onion. Pickled, hence more tangy and less cloying. The egg was oozing with gooey goodness too. The classic Fergburger, while still good, was flatter in terms of flavour — no standout profile as there’s no relish but enjoyable nonetheless. We came around 4pm so there wasn’t much crowd, and we got our food within 20 minutes (including queueing to order). Staff at the counter were friendly. The only downside was the cleanliness. The place was a little dirty with food residue left behind, and the sparrows occasionally snatched food directly from our table… which can be quite unhygienic. Highly recommended!
Yun T — Google review
Ordered the Fergburger with 1 cheddar cheese, $17.9. It is quite delicious, the sauce tastes special. Serving is large but manageable (didn’t get any fries or drink), probably also because it taste great! Not oily or jelat for a breakfast, beef is not gamey. Went at 9am, queue is short and fast. Although tastes great, I don’t think it is worth queuing for 30-45mins for it. Recommend to go at non-peak hours like us.
Poh — Google review
Food: 4.9/5 Service: 2.8/5 Value: 4.7/5 The hype of the town and boy does the line make you feel the hype. Even in the rain, we had to wait 10 minutes just to order. Luckily the stores nearby typically have rain covers and the rain was relatively light. However, the wait was absolutely worth it, and I’ll remember this as one of the best burgers I’ve had. Just to get all of my complaints out of the way. It is really difficult to find anywhere to sit and actually enjoy the burger. There are so many tourists and so few spots, just expect to have to enjoy this burger somewhere else. On a sunny day, would strongly recommend just going by the lake, but on a rainy like what we experienced, it was super difficult. Now, onto the food! Ferg Deluxe: Holy crap this burger was so good…. The combination of the well seasoned, tender patty with the bacon, relish were incredible. Honestly, when I first took a bite of this burger, I was just blown away and instantly knew it was different from the other burgers I’ve had. I can’t give enough praise to how well Fergburger executes their staple. Sweet Bambi: Honestly after the Ferg Deluxe, this was quite the letdown. The deer was not as well seasoned but the boysenberry sauce was quite good. It just didn’t have the “wow” factor that the Ferburger has. Altogether a decent burger but would probably just recommend getting the restaurant staple.

Our kids did the VR experience. They got 3 games and a bonus mini game thrown in. Staff member was very friendly and fantastic with the kids. Explained everything and helped throughout. The kids had a ball. Perfect for something different to do on a non snow day.

My 10 year old loved this place so much that we had to go back the next day. The staff member, Molly was amazing. She guided my boy, encouraged and applauded him. So many games and activities to choose from. Will be surely coming back to Thrillzone when we visit Queenstown again.

The glow in the dark mini putt was very fun. We choice to play the fun edition which added a quirky fun element to thw game. The holes were really well thought out and had a fun spin on a traditional min putt. Staff were super helpful and we had a ball. Score card was on our phone which we thought was really smart.

Putt 'N' Glow unique enough to wholeheartedly justify it's price point - interactive & unexpected fun for all ✨ With the opportunity to replay as much as your group wants, digital scorecards, certain hole modifiers, customisable courses, AND varied ways to score, this is an absolute MUST for any group (BookMe reinforces this tenfold) ⛳️ The staff were generous and hospitable, taking us via the accessibility lift to the start and explaining/answering with patience - it added greatly to our experience overall! As someone who works in the entertainment industry, I couldn't recommend this more!

We had such a fun time doing the Hologate VR experience! We were lucky enough to spin the discount wheel with Sandy and win a buy-one-get-one-free deal. We loved it so much that we came back a couple of days later to play again. Such a great little family activity! Thanks to the awesome team at Thrillzone — you were fantastic!

NZONE Skydive Queenstown

Skydiving center
NZONE Skydive Queenstown is a modern company headquarters that offers tandem skydiving trips and video packages. Visitors have had fantastic experiences from start to finish, including easy booking, helpful customer service, and a convenient location in town. The operation is well-organized with happy and helpful staff. Tandem masters like Rob, Sam T, and Tim are praised for making the experience amazing and exhilarating.
What an amazing experience! Can dive from 9,000 feet, 12,000 feet or 25,000 feet. Very professional set-up. There is first a safety briefing that happens at the venue. A bus then takes you to the drop zone where you are fitted with your gear and then segregated depending on the height that you choose. You are then taken on the plane by your tandem partner/instructor. Everything went off smoothly and professionally.

BEST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!! I went skydiving with Sean and I was so nervous at first, but he was incredibly careful and reassuring. He kept telling me to calm and checked my gear multiple times, I think at least 5 or 6 times 😆 The jump itself was absolutely amazing, such an epic experience. The team at NZONE is super professional, so I felt completely safe and could just enjoy the moment. Highly recommend this to anyone—definitely would do it again if I get the chance!
Jisoo K — Google review
Skydiving with Nzone in Queenstown was absolutely amazing! My instructor, Luke, was fantastic—so friendly, reassuring, and made the whole experience even better. The jump itself was unforgettable—the rush of freefall and then floating over Queenstown with the mountains, lake, and valleys below was breathtaking. The views are out of this world and unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. Huge thanks to Luke and the Nzone team for making this a once-in-a-lifetime adventure!
Maitri P — Google review
Fantastic experience! Staff were very friendly and everything was well organised. The jump felt safe and the tandem instructors were friendly and assuring. We signed up for 9000 feet but upgraded to 12000 feet and no regrets! The fall had no heart dropping feeling, unlike roller coaster, as the wind was so strong. Just that the videos were kinda pricey. Please remember to check if your accommodation is near the drop zone as it will save a lot of time if you drive to the drop zone on your own.
Grace W — Google review
It’s AMAZING. The customer service staffs are friendly and my tandem master (Gabe) is very professional, from jumping to landing are super smooth. Gabe did a lot of safety checks, made sure I know what to do at jumping, landing and reassured me that I will be fine before we jump which makes me really safe and secure. I was shocked and occupied by the free fall and views but he reminded me to look at the camera to get the best shots. After parachute opens, he removed my goggles for better view. All these small actions really impressed me and I am glad I got him as my Tandem master. Once again, THANK YOU SO MUCH GABRIEL. The experience itself… WOW. Just WOW. I am glad I did the skydiving in Queenstown with BREATHTAKING VIEWS and I will definitely do it again. For those of you who are reading the reviews to decide whether or not to do skydiving with Nzone, please go ahead and book. I guarantee you will not regret it. Oh and Nzone will confirm your skydive 30 mins before the appointment due to weather conditions and you are considered lucky if you get to do it. 😉
Yin T — Google review
The Skydive experience was amazing, but do not purchased their photos and videos package, it's nothing like the video they show for reference. And totally not worth NZD 190. Rest all was good, instructors were well equipped.
Abhinav — Google review
This review is solely for the staff at the dropzone office. The service I received at the city center was pretty alright. This was our 2nd time reporting to NZONE dropzone office as our booking had already been rescheduled from few days back. In our inital booking prior to rescheduling, we opted for the Ultimate Combo package, which included a 2nd photographer/videographer to capture moments from a third person point of view during the jump. However, on the day of my rescheduling, in order to clear the backlog of customers who have rescheduled, they squeezed in and opened up more slots in between the timings, which meant that there was insufficient photographers to capture your moment from outside as more instructors were activated to do the tandem jump with customers. Hence, the Ultimate Combo was not available. Instead, only the basic photography and video was provided from instructor's POV, which was fine. The first receptionist failed to mention this, and we almost missed out on the refund for the Ultimate Combo. Luckily, we overheard another receptionist mentioning to another customer about this refund being possible, we approached her instead and she initiated the refund for us. The first receptionist was obviously new and inexperienced as we noticed that she kept asking for guidance from the other counter staff as well. I would humbly suggest that the company takes this into consideration in making sure that the counter staff are well informed and versed in the package information and policies before allowing them to perform their roles, especially when customers are already paying a lot to embark on skydiving. I am giving 2 stars simply because there were experienced counter staff there to solve our issues and answer our questions properly. This didn't matter anyway because our rescheduled flight got cancelled again.

The cookies here are absolutely delicious! We especially loved the white chocolate cookie. We also tried the hot chocolate, which was really good. I’d been really looking forward to trying this place, and I finally got to visit on the first day of my NZ trip. The cookies are so much better than the ones back home — now I totally understand the hype! I tried two vegan options (choc chip and chocolate) and one regular choc chip cookie, and they were all exceptional. Super moist on the inside, packed with sweetness and chocolate, but not overly rich or overpowering. Highly recommended and definitely a must-try while you're in town!

Loved the decor of this shop and I wanted to get everything from the shop. They had a wide range of options for cookies, gelatos, and merchandise. I got a free mocha from them as they made the wrong order I reckoned. I loved the rich flavor and creamy texture of the drink. It even came with free small cookie.

Energetic staff, unique retail concept. It’s hard to beat warm cookies and they were pretty good. These are thin Mrs Fields / Subway-like style cookies. Pretty good, but highly subjective. Not cheap though. There are some over the top spins on cookies and ice cream as well.

This place smells like heaven. Warm good old fashioned cookies and milk, match made in heaven. White chocolate and macadamia cookie, warm and fresh out of oven was beyond imagination delicious and the best kinda treat after a full day of fun in the lovely Queenstown. Must Try (at least once😁) when in Queenstown.

Went here on the 27th Aug at night and the team were very friendly and informative! Food was delicious, we especially loved the Nutella shake and warm cookies. The customer service was excellent, thank you for the girls who were so accommodating that cold night. 🫶🏼 (ps, don’t mind the pic of the shake, couldn’t resist the whip cream - too good!!)

Buy a cookie between the hours of 6pm and 7pm everyday and you get another for free. Inside cookie time theme decor . I was feeling more thirsty right there so I ordered a caramel salted flake shake also some original cookie time biscuits for afterward . So tasty and delicious was the shake I should have bought 2 😁 There is a counter table there to sit and enjoy your sweets . If you're a big fan of cookie time they sell merchandise also inside the store. Hopefully they may open up one store in Auckland

Skytrek Tandem Hang Gliding & Paragliding offers an exhilarating experience in Queenstown, where you can soar through the air and take in breathtaking views of Lake Wakatipu, the Remarkables, and other stunning landmarks. The tandem flights with experienced pilots provide a sense of freedom and relaxation once you're in the air. Visitors have praised the friendly and knowledgeable staff who make them feel safe even if they are afraid of heights.
The service was efficient, as we didn’t make any advance booking online. The staff was professional. Jayden, my pilot for the paragliding, was experienced, friendly and accommodating! He ensured that I’m ok throughout the ride. He was also a good photographer and videographer too! The photos he took were beautiful! Thank you for your service Jayden! Highly recommend to drop by Queenstown for paragliding!

Absolutely awesome experience from booking to flight. The booking team went above and beyond to make sure we got to fly working around our dates, which experience would suit us best and the weather conditions with excellent communication. On the day the support team were welcoming, informative and full of enthusiasm. I flew with Sidaq (apologies if the spelling is incorrect) whose warm and professional personality made me feel safe and excited for the flight. My niece flew with Charlie, and she too had a great flight. The flight was just brilliant including some tricks at the end. Despite doing this routine multiple times a day, he and all the instructors gave us (the clients) a fresh energy with not an ounce of tiredness or boredom that could come from repeating the process. Thank you to the whole team at Skytrek for making our experience such a memorable one.

Highly recommended activity! A must-try when you come here! Coach Tai is super friendly and gentle — an excellent pilot. The activity itself is really fun! Although I felt a bit dizzy up there, it didn’t affect how much I enjoyed it. Thank you so much, Tai, for giving me such a wonderful experience! 🥰🥰

The day of our flight the weather was outstanding, everything was clearly explained. Jayden was my pilot and with a calm and relaxed personality that put me instantly at easy. It was so peaceful floating around above the ground checking out all the surrounding mountains. Being able to steer the paraglide was a highlight with some great photos and videos taken to remember the experience. Thank you Jayden and the whole team.

Skyline Queenstown offers an iconic experience in Queenstown, New Zealand. Visitors can take the Queenstown Gondola up 450 meters to Bob's Peak for breathtaking panoramic views of The Remarkables mountain range and Lake Wakatipu. At the top, they can enjoy dining at Market Kitchen Cafe or Stratosfare Restaurant, and even visit the Jelly Belly Store for some sweet treats and an art gallery featuring pieces made out of jelly beans.
Great time. Kids had a blast. Family group price was pretty good for the experience. A bit of a wait for luge rides. Kids 10 and 13 will fine on own down the luge. Cafe at top. Super clear views. Parking is a real challenge, fine somewhere and walk to the bottom
Daniel M — Google review
The luge was super fun and I would highly recommend. Giving it four stars instead of five because the admission price was expensive and I was expecting more opportunities to catch a view of Queenstown and take impressive photos. The lookout area was very small and mostly shaded. There was a line in the one well lit area to take photos.

Skyline Queenstown Luge is an absolute must do when visiting Queenstown! The whole experience is packed with fun, adventure and incredible views. The gondola ride up alone is breathtaking, you get to see sweeping panoramic views of Lake Wakatipu, the Remarkables and the whole Queenstown skyline. Once at the top, the luge tracks are where the real excitement begins! We tried both the Dart Luge Track and Arrow Luge Track — the scenic one is perfect for beginners or just to enjoy the view, while the advanced track gives you more curves, speed and thrilling corners. It’s super addictive; once you start, you’ll definitely want to go again! The luge carts are easy to control, safe, and suitable for all ages. Staff were friendly and helpful, making the experience smooth and enjoyable. There’s also a café and lookout area at the top where you can relax, take photos and enjoy the stunning landscape before heading down. Tip: Go during the morning or sunset for fewer crowds and even better lighting for photos. Overall, Skyline Queenstown Luge offers a perfect mix of fun, adrenaline and world-class scenery. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip — worth every cent and every ride!

IMO, its the must-go to every tourist in Queenstown. AMAZING view, the Luge Ride is so FUN - so don’t miss going at least 3 times. The views are breathtaking, one can make lots of amazing photos. Really recommend!
Mário N — Google review
We had an afternoon to spare in Queenstown and had seen the gondola going up the mountain. Our research showed that if you went up a bit higher, you could catch a chairlift to the top and luge back down….count me in for those thanks! (It wasn’t a luge all the way down the mountain so don’t get too excited!) There are a few packages to choose from, but we opted for the gondola up and back, chairlift to the top and 3 rides on the luge. When going up on the gondola, make sure you sit facing the lake and not the mountain, the view is stunning. The chairlift to the top can seat 4 people so there’s plenty of room and the lines to get on weren’t too bad. We were there towards the end of winter so it might be busier during summer. The luge itself is lots of fun, once you get used to stopping and going. A lever will increase/decrease your speed and letting go will cause it to stop. Pretty simple once you get the hang of it. There is only one main track, but it branches off to another track for the more experienced. By that I mean it’s a bit faster and way more fun. Helmets are mandatory too. There are viewing areas up top so you can watch people going around on the track, plus admire the view over the lake and mountains. From buying our tickets, to the chairlift and the guys looking after the luge; all the staff were just brilliant. Friendly, welcoming, explained everything we needed to know. Totally recommend a visit.

Very clean gondolas. Nice ride up and back. We had lunch at the Stratosphere. Great buffet with soups, mussels, shrimp, several meats (prime rib, pork belly, venison, lamb, chicken), several types of vegetables, a great salad bar, cheese and meat bar, pasta bar, and an amazing dessert bar... there was so much delicious food I couldn't even come close to tasting all that i wanted to because it looked so good. Wait staff right in top of service a well. Beautiful view! Fun gift shop at the top a well. We were supposed to be riding the luge all day but it was raining hard fur the time we were in Queenstown so never got to. So disappointed!!!

Initially I didn’t think about the views but after reaching to the top and spending time at the viewpoint, my decision was absolutely right spending the money. Bonus was the photos were free!!! A separate card with a QR code will be given to us and it is useful to scan and pose for a photo at the viewpoint and that photo will be available online to download!

Pub
Smiths Craft Beer House is an industrial-chic bar located in Queenstown, offering a wide selection of craft beers and delicious food options. The focus here is on flavor, with an emphasis on experimental brews to tantalize the taste buds. Whether you're into burgers, pizzas, or classic po' boy sandwiches, there's something to pair with your beer of choice.
Cool craft beer pub. Great range on tap. 24 atm. Casual feel and friendly staff. Surprisingly great food. Everyone raves about a Ferg burger, not had one yet but it’d have to be majorly impressive to be better than the beef short rib burger I had. Wow. Making an edit. Now been to Ferg they are bloody good burgers but Smith’s are better and you can drink good beer while you wait.

Recommend the poutine, it’s up there with Canada’s! The beer selection and recommendations are great, and the taste testing is appreciated! Went twice in a week and had a new rotation on tap which was fun! Both times staff were attentive and friendly. Also has a nice view of the mountains and card games to play — definitely drop by!

Came here on a Friday for lunch, crowd was quite thin. People, don't queue for the trendy places, this bar has it all. Fantastic food and excellent kiwi beer. Don't miss. And the view is pretty good too.
Linda W — Google review
Great bar and atmosphere, the bartender suggested some great beers and even gave me tastings. Would highly recommend this to anyone who loves a beer and wants to have a good time! Also on a plus side, they have plenty of board games to keep you and your friends engaged.
Suhas L — Google review
Great bar. We were able to fit 10+ people from our group down the side of the restaurant on the long table without making a booking which was awesome. Food was good. The boys said the chicken burger was absolutely amazing. The pizza was good too.

Great bar with huge range of tol class beers. Topped off with a super friendly and knowledgeable bar tender 👌👌

Great little bar for craft beer lovers! I went on a Tuesday night and as expected it was very quite. But the bar tender was a legend and made me feel welcome. Would definently come back next time im visited Queenstown

Came here as a recommendation from a stranger we met on our travels, we thought why not and we were blown away, so many options for drinks and the food was delicious, we had wahoo chicken and broccoli bites with honey garlic sauce, both were so flavoursome and some of the best food we had in queenstown. I'd recommend this to everyone who likes good food and a drink or 4.

Bakery
Fergbaker is a delightful offshoot of the famous Fergburger, offering a delectable array of baked treats and ice cream. From classic meat pies to an extensive selection of pastries, doughnuts, toasted sandwiches, and pretzels, this charming bakery is the perfect spot for a quick indulgence accompanied by a cup of coffee.
Was attracted to this bakery as its front was always covered with people. I finally got to try this place one morning and I was amazed by the wide variety of pastries they had at the display counter. I got coffee and mini focaccia as takeaway. I was told that their pie was a must-try but it was a tad heavy for me to have it in the morning. I liked their foccacia as it tasted fresh and delicious with its tomato and cheese fillings. The bread was soft and crispy to my liking. Would love to try their pie and other pastries one day if I got to visit this town again!

I’ve tried their burger and to be honest. I wasn’t a fan… their vegetarian pie tho was absolutely incredible! I’ve had a lot of veggie pies but that one was the best one I’ve had. Thank you. 10/10 Oh also the almond croissant was very good. I was very skeptical at first because usually if the almond croissant looks puffy and pretty it isn’t a good sign (it’s usually flat since it’s an old croissant converted to an almond croissant) but it was actually incredible. Recommended for sure :)

I stopped by because I was browsing and saw vegetarian and vegan options... I can say for sure that the vegan sandwich was exceptional... the lentil and mushroom pie was the best I've ever eaten! Thank you for including every type of diet and doing it so well with original and tasty options! Highly recommended.

Fergbaker wasn’t as nice as expected. We had 2 pies and 2 sweet treats. For pies, we tried the Ferg Pie ($8.50) and the Steak & Cheese ($8.90). The steak and cheese had tender savoury beef with cheese, and the pastry was flaky. But after several bites, it felt quite one-dimensional, same for the Ferg Pie. Just not satisfying after a while. For sweets, we had the Boston Cream Donut ($6.20) and the Double Chocolate Brownie ($6.50). Both tasted like we were just eating sugar. They were overwhelmingly sweet and this is coming from someone with a sweet tooth. It became cloying very quickly.
Yun T — Google review
Came here 2 years ago for holiday and tried their pies. The pastry was fluffy, the fillings was tasty and the service was great despite the long queue. I went back today and nothing has changed! Had their vegetarian pie and it was just as good! Will be back for more pastries 😋
Ivy T — Google review
Their meat pies are phenomenal. 10/10 recommend. I’ve had the Ferg Pie & the Lamb, Kumara & Hiropito pies and both were absolutely smashing. I rate the meat pies over the burger (don’t shoot me).
K_ S — Google review
Dropped into Fergbaker and tried a few items. The bacon and egg bap was the highlight — soft, buttery bun with a solid helping of bacon and egg, and the sweet and savoury combo from the jam and relish really made it sing. Hearty and satisfying, definitely worth trying. I also had the Ferg and Cheese pie, which was warm, meaty, and filling. A good pie overall, though not quite the flavour bomb I expected given the hype. Finished with a strawberry tart — sweet, slightly tangy, and visually appealing. It was enjoyable, but just above average in taste. Prices are on the steep side, so it feels more like a treat-yourself stop. Still, solid quality across the board, and the bacon and egg bap was the one I’d go back for.

🔔 The Daily Pie 🗓️ Wednesday 8 October 📌 Ferg Bakery, Queenstown, New Zealand 💵 $8.50 (£3.66) First day in Queenstown, and what better way to round it off than a pub quiz and a late night pie? After a few too many craft beers at the excellent Beech Tree (26 taps and a respectable 4th-place finish in the quiz), we wandered to Ferg Bakery - open until 2am, bless them - for a post-quiz refuel. The famous chilli beef and cheese was sadly sold out, but fate handed me a chicken jalfrezi instead. And honestly? No regrets. Packed with chicken, veg, and a punchy mix of spices, it was vibrant, warming, and exactly what you want after seven pints and a near-victory. At $8.50 it’s on the pricier side, but absolutely worth it. Not my first choice, but I’d choose it again in a heartbeat. A cracking introduction to New Zealand’s pie scene. ⭐️ 4.5/5 The perfect post-pub pie.

Cafe
Red Rock Bar Cafe is a popular spot in Queenstown, known for its laid-back atmosphere and great value drinks and food. It's a favorite among backpackers and locals, offering a loyalty card for discounted pints of beer and affordable full English breakfasts. Situated at the top of Camp Street, it's frequented by ski staff and tourists looking for cold beers and inexpensive meals. The cozy bar provides generous portion sizes at reasonable prices, with options that cater to vegetarians as well.
Very cool atmosphere, ordered the poutine and felt like we booked an accidental trip to Canada. Lovely service too. My BlT had the fluffiest bread and chrispiest bacon, tasted amazing but only two relatively thin tomato slices for a bl"t" Poutine was delicious and my partner enjoyed the chicken parm.

Came here both mornings of our weekend trip to Queenstown. Really friendly staff and YUMMY breakfast. Cheapest place we found and great for the price. Love it
Madison C — Google review
Once again the Queenstown hospitality was top notch. We grabbed brunch at a quaint little bar and the food was wholesome and so tasty. The service was friendly and welcoming. Prices were affordable and if you are on a budget then this the place to go. Definitely want to return.

Oh dear, not what was expected…. Dirty cup for the tea, bad start. Sticky tables. Big breakfast was poor sausages, egg whites not cooked, beans not even warmed up. “Chef” in the garden having a pint at 11am? You can’t cook a breakfast this bad unless you don’t care or can’t cook. Avoid.

Had the Irish Spice Bag and double smash pattie. Was amazing. The curry sauce was incredible, never tasted anything like it and I want the recipe. Will definitely be back and highly recommend.

Great breakfast spot to hangout and have meals. Has both indoor and outdoor seating. Prices are great value for money and staff are very friendly. Makes deals with tour groups for vouchers which made things extra easy and simple to order meals. Would recommend!
Natalie W — Google review
The atmosphere seemed great, funky cool vibes within the bar, was excited to check out the place. Unfortunately, the owner is a cold, nasty, rude balding man who likes to pick on women. The other bartenders were very nice, respectful, and understanding, it is a shame his boss is an angry coward. Within two minutes of sitting down and waiting for a friend to return from the bathroom before we ordered our drinks, the owner was glaring at us. After I simply took a sip of a water bottle (which was just water), we were approached in an aggressive manner and told to move on, he interrupted us multiple times and then walked away whilst we tried to speak. Leave a tip if you want, but here is a tip for the owner; get over your power trips and see a therapist.

Visited here a couple of times for their $10 breakfast deal which includes 2 slices of toasted bread, 2 eggs, hashbrown and streaky bacon. Good value for money. Plenty of outdoor seating available too. Staff is friendly and like most of Queenstown was understaffed at the time. Staff was still friendly and stopped by for a quick chat.

Steak house
Jervois Steak House, affectionately known as JSH, is a renowned dining destination in New Zealand that prides itself on serving top-quality beef and lamb. The restaurant offers an extensive menu featuring Wagyu beef and the classic Jervois fillet, accompanied by delectable sides and sauces. While steak takes center stage, the establishment also boasts a selection of superb seafood dishes and a high-quality vegetarian menu.
Dining at Jervois Steak House in Queenstown was an excellent experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with a sophisticated yet relaxed vibe that made it perfect for a special night out. The service stood out right away — our server was friendly, professional, and attentive without being overbearing. They took the time to explain the menu, offer suggestions, and checked in regularly to ensure everything was perfect. The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered steak, of course, and it did not disappoint. It was cooked exactly to our liking, beautifully seared on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. The quality of the meat was clear with every bite — rich in flavour and perfectly seasoned. The sides and sauces complemented the main dishes nicely, and the portion sizes were generous without being overwhelming. Everything from the starters to dessert felt carefully prepared and well-executed. The restaurant also had a solid wine and cocktail selection, adding to the overall dining experience. Overall, Jervois Steak House delivered on all fronts, great food, excellent service, and a lovely setting. It’s definitely a must-visit for anyone looking for a high-quality steakhouse in Queenstown.

June, 7th, 2025 We had an amazing dining experience here! The service was outstanding — Tony, our server, was incredibly attentive, friendly, and made us feel very welcome. Truly one of the best service experiences I’ve had, highly recommend asking for him! The food was also top-notch from the starters to the main courses. Every dish was well-prepared and flavorful. The mushrooms were rich and delicious, the venison was perfectly cooked, and the steak was absolutely outstanding. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for excellent food and exceptional service!

Had one of our best steak experience for dinner at Jervois Steakhouse. Our lovely server explained to us each and every steak they offer and would absolutely recommend their King Cut and Black Origin. The Black Origin definitely melts in your mouth. Very much worth it for the price.

Situated within the Sofitel hotel complex, Jervois Steakhouse offers a fantastic dining experience with top-notch food and service. We came here straight after a long hike and road trip back from Mt Cook — still in our hiking gear — and the team couldn’t have been more welcoming. The atmosphere is elegant without being pretentious, making it a comfortable spot to unwind after a big day. We ordered the chef’s platter, which came with a beautifully tender sirloin, a lamb rack, and another generous cut of steak, all accompanied by five sauces. The horseradish was a standout — sharp, creamy, and the perfect complement to the meat. While the lamb was a touch dry, the steaks were cooked to perfection: juicy, flavourful, and perfectly charred. The steak-cut chips were absolutely addictive — crispy on the outside and soft on the inside — and the fresh salad balanced everything nicely. The service was warm and attentive throughout, adding to the overall experience. A must-visit for anyone craving a quality steak and a relaxed, refined atmosphere in Queenstown.
Choccy P — Google review
Steak lovers, this one’s worth a visit! 🥩 I tried several dishes here, but the Hururuni Scotch was the clear standout — juicy, tender, and with that perfect fat-to-lean ratio that makes each bite melt in your mouth. The sides paired nicely, rounding out the meal without stealing the spotlight. Wouldn’t mind seeing a bit more variety on the sides menu, but honestly, what’s here already works well. In short: great meat, great flavors, and a spot I’d happily come back to.

Probably one of the better steak house you can get in south island. Reservation is needed. Folks here are also polite. Only downside was although we had a reservation, we had to wait at the sidelines for ~10 mins before we could get seated. Other then that, still a pleasant dining experience.

We walked into this restaurant to try to grab a table but it was fully booked. We were offered bar sitting and we grabbed it. We enjoyed the lamb and the Angus Rib Eye very much so we decided to go back We reserved a table so our 2nd visit was mire comfortable. Service was still mindful and attentive, setting was nice and cozy with the mountain peaks seen from our table. The food was still great, the starters, mains, side dishes and sauces were beautifully presented. We had the lamb and the venison both cooked to perfection. I highly recommend this place if you want good meat!

Highly recommend Jervois Steak House and especially the kind service of Joseph, who truly went above and beyond to ensure we had a comfortable and enjoyable evening. He was very attentive, funny and provided great suggestions and explanations for the menu- as well as travel suggestions for his hometown of Malaysia. We were staying in the Sofitel for the week in NZ so Jervois was already conveniently downstairs, and I managed to snag a first table booking which made it even better- however compared to the other fine dining or degusts I’ve had in NZ, this ended up being our most memorable dinner thanks to Joseph and the team’s warm hospitality. Our eye fillet was left a bit too long on the grill and they were very happy to send it back and make a new one with no dramas. Joseph even came and offered us some complimentary sides to have while we waited, which was incredibly kind. We loved the steak sauces too, and the selection of complimentary mustards (horseradish will always be my pick though)! We enjoyed: - bone marrow, this would be a must order - Prawns - Scotch MB8+ was tender, flavourful and melt in your mouth - local oysters was fresh - mash Can skip: - Eye fillet was ok - steak tartare - creme brûlée is a bit heavy for me personally but I can see why many would enjoy this All in all, we will definitely come back to Jervois yearly during snow season. Just an all round well done steak restaurant with fantastic ambience, a great and attentive team and an excellent kitchen crew.
