Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Guildford Castle, originally a Norman motte-and-bailey fortress, has been reinforced several times over the centuries and served as a royal residence. The castle offers 360-degree views from the Great Tower and features a model depicting its original form. The surrounding gardens boast colorful flowerbeds and a statue of Alice Through the Looking Glass.
Guildford Castle is a lovely place to explore if you’re in town. The grounds are beautifully maintained, with great views from the top overlooking Guildford and the surrounding countryside. It’s peaceful, informative, and perfect for a short, scenic visit. Highly recommended for history lovers and casual walkers alike.

Stunning! What the beautiful scenery! Totally recommend it. Nothing inside the castle but not the rooftop. You'll see the wonderful city view.
Beny ( — Google review
Take a breather whilst shopping and take a relaxing visit the castle gardens which is situated not far from the High Street. The place is beautifully kept and the gardens are really well planted up notably with spring bulbs AND also for the summer season. I advise you not to miss both the upper and the lower levels of the grounds. The castle mound itself is a bit of a climb but well worth it for the view. The castle does open to but I've never been inside. There is a fascinating little statue as a tribute to Lewis Carol who wrote 'Alice Through The Looking Glass' very nearby when he lived here. I thoroughly recommend this little gem of a place to anyone...

I recently visited the Illuminate event at Guildford Castle and it was absolutely stunning. The whole layout was beautifully designed, creating a magical atmosphere from the moment you walked in. Every corner seemed to glow with colour and charm, making it such a memorable experience. The staff were also incredibly friendly and very helpful, guiding us through our visit and adding to the overall warmth of the evening. Their welcoming attitude really made the experience feel even more special. One of the highlights for me was the toasted marshmallows — £5 for a stick with three giant marshmallows, which felt very reasonable and pretty standard for these kinds of events. They were delicious and added a cosy touch to the night. The hot chocolate was okay, more of a classic water-based version, but still warming in the cold. The doughnuts, though, were lovely and fresh with a great choice of toppings to make them your own. Even though it was a little chilly, nothing could take away from how beautiful the whole experience was. Illuminate Guildford Castle is definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for something magical this season.

Lovely place Very very Spiritual. If you want to do Meditation/ manifestation or wants to connect to the Cosmos/Nature basically 5 elements air, water, earth, sky and fire. This is the place for people seeking positivity in their life. People with Negative energy could find it a difficult place to sit for long. Chant "OUM 🕉 " this is the vibration of creation of this Universe. Thank you

Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Churches & Cathedrals
Guildford Cathedral, located on Stag Hill near the university campus, is a 20th-century Anglican church known for its modern design and materials. Unlike traditional cathedrals, it features plain glass windows that allow natural light to illuminate the white interior. The cathedral offers free admission and permits photography for personal use. It holds royal connections and was consecrated in the presence of the Queen.
Guildford Cathedral is a breathtaking landmark perched on Stag Hill, offering panoramic views of the surrounding town. The cathedral’s modern yet striking architecture stands out, featuring a blend of contemporary and traditional design. The interior is spacious, bright, and beautifully maintained, creating a peaceful and uplifting atmosphere for visitors. One of the highlights of Guildford Cathedral is its sense of serenity. The space is impeccably clean, well-organized, and exudes a welcoming ambiance. Whether you visit for worship, reflection, or simply to admire the structure, the calm environment adds to the experience. The cathedral is also known for its excellent acoustics, making it a popular venue for choral performances and events. Located in a convenient area, the cathedral is just a short distance from a well-stocked gift shop offering a variety of souvenirs, books, and local crafts. Visitors can easily find unique mementos to take home. Additionally, the surrounding grounds are well-kept, offering a peaceful spot to stroll or sit. Safety and accessibility are well-considered, with friendly staff available to assist. Overall, Guildford Cathedral is a must-visit for those who appreciate architecture, history, and a tranquil atmosphere. Whether you're a local or a traveler, this iconic site provides a memorable experience.

12 oct 2025. This morning travel by rail from London Waterloo at 10am to Guildford to meet up with friend for a 3 hours walking visit to Guildford. Wonderful walk up the hill from railway station. & town centre.
Muihua N — Google review
Guildford's most recognisable landmark, this modernist cathedral was designed in the 1930s by Edward Maufe, and consecrated in 1961. The imposing red brick tower is visible from much of Guildford thanks to the cathedral's elevated position at the top of Stag Hill, affording it good views over town. The cathedral's exterior is simple, but with enough detail not to appear austere. The statues on the west front are the newest feature, added in 2005. Stepping inside, I was immediately struck by how bright and spacious the cathedral felt, the large windows allowing an abundance of natural light to reach the building's interior. High ceilings and towering arches further enhance the sense of space. The cathedral is very well maintained, spotlessly clean inside and out. The blue ceiling decoration and sparkling organ pipes stand out amongst internal features. Services are held regularly and events are hosted on special occasions, so it's worth checking the website before visiting to be sure you'll be able to look inside. There's accessible onsite parking for visitors to the cathedral, while a café, shop and toilet facilities are located inside.
Andrew T — Google review
Located on top of the hill and you have a good view of the town. It’s a huge place but decoration is simple and modest which makes it beautiful. An amazing place to visit.
Roobik E — Google review
Lovely modern cathedral. Free parking for 2 hours is a bonus, giving you plenty of time to walk around. Easy to access from the motorway too.
Bruce L — Google review
Guildford Cathedral’s simple, modernist architecture feels both grand and welcoming. A lovely stop if you’re in the area, whether for history, quiet contemplation, or just a great view over Guildford.
RithuTheExplorer V — Google review
One of the newer British Cathedrals built in the 20th century. Aestheticly pleasing but somewhat too clean and lacking atmosphere as with many of its older contemporaries
Yoav G — Google review
This modern looking cathedral in Surrey is very underrated in my opinion. You will need a car to visit unless you live nearby of course. It is located at the top of Stag Hill with spectacular views of the countryside around. The cafe is pleasant with enough food and drink choices for the length of your stay. The cathedral shop has a really good selection of related things to remind you of your visit. Once done with these, the cathedral awaits you. There is no entry charge but a place for a voluntary contribution is available. The beautiful interior is calm and encourages you enter the space filled with light. Unlike most of our cathedrals this is not in a city with many passerbys, so the peace and quiet in this lovely space can be appreciated. I loved it. Thank you Guildford

It is a wonderful little park for children with a few facilities that we hadn't seen elsewhere. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

A great and large park to visit. The Japanese garden is really nice and scenic and everything seems well maintained. Can be a bit muddy but a great spot to walk around

Stoke Park is located around 12 minutes away from Guildford High Street by walk. It is a 52 acre open park with trees on a corner, children’s park on another side with a paddling pool and model boat pond, skate boarding rink on yet another side. The Stoke park itself is open always, the children’s park may have some time slots though. The space and openness of park provides a sense of feel good and freedom. People with dogs often bring them to the park for a walk and some play. In summer it’s also a good place to have picnics and generally absorb the sunlight.

Visited for Guildford park run. Good size park with lots of outdoor activities going on throughout the day. I parked in the fabulous leisure center opposite. I walked into the town from here and then a bus back and short walk through the park. If your in Guilford and looking for outdoor walks then this is for you.

With its warm, inviting decor, this bustling eatery offers an extensive menu featuring mouthwatering tapas and hearty seafood paellas. The vibrant selection caters to all palates, including options for vegetarians and those with dietary restrictions.
We are very lucky to get a table for three on Friday night without prior reservation. We are very impressed by the foods we ordered, everything is so delicious! I particularly love the seafood and chicken paella we ordered, the meat is generous, good amount for three people to share, so tasty! Also, the service is fairly attentive and quick, every staff is wearing a smile on their face. I haven’t enjoyed dining in a restaurant so much as today. Highly recommended!

We came here for dinner and were really impressed. The service is great and the staff are really friendly. We had goats cheese and honey bread, cold cuts and cheese board, ham and chicken croquettes which were amazing, white bait, pork and beef meatballs and the lemon chicken. For dessert I had biscoff cheesecake. The food was amazing one of the best tapas I’ve been to and the staff were great can’t recommend enough.

Marcus & Emmanuel are wonderful to have a banter with when you dine in. We ordered the Crispy Squid, Crispy Baby Squid & Seafood Paella 🥘 The squids were good but not the best neither are they bad. The seafood Paella is very flavourful. The main course menu would benefit with a more options to choose from. Overall, dinner was quite enjoyable mainly because of the staff.

We came for Valentine's Day, the food was all delicious, nothing was lacklustre, but special mention to the chorizo a la planta, I'd come back just for a whole plate of that stuff. Really warm, inviting atmosphere, friendly service and probably the best espresso martinis we've ever had, which is tough competition! We also thought the value was very reasonable, especially in Guildford. Thank you to everyone who helped make it a lovely evening!

The fish platter was so good- the fish was lightly seasoned - crispy outside and juicy and tender inside. The prawns were meaty and fresh. The sausages were nicely grilled and tasted right. The garlic prawn was surprisingly good. The zesty lemon was really a kick to the garlic and prawn. The desserts were nice and made the whole dinner experience unforgettable. Thanks for the nice and friendly staffs!

Italian restaurant
Restaurant
Olivo is a classic Italian restaurant located in a 17th-century building just off Guildford's High Street. The restaurant offers traditional Italian cuisine prepared by their own Italian chefs and features charming dining rooms with stripped floors and exposed beams. Olivo has set lunch menus, party menus, and even offers a variety of birthday cakes. Guests can also enjoy a wide selection of drinks from the menu.
We had a great dining experience at this restaurant. The food was of high quality and the portions were generous. The service was excellent, especially from the waiter named himself 007—he was attentive , humours and friendly throughout. The value for money is impressive, making it a place I would definitely recommend to others.

A true taste of Italy in the heart of Guildford! 🇮🇹 Olivo is a beautiful reflection of authentic Italian warmth and charm — you can truly feel it’s a family-run restaurant with heart and soul behind everything they do. We absolutely loved our dinner there — the atmosphere, the service, and especially the lobster pasta, which was honestly the best pasta I’ve ever had in my life. 🍝🦞 Highly recommend visiting this wonderful place and definitely try the lobster pasta — it will be the most delicious lobster you’ve ever tasted! 💫

From the moment you step inside, the ambiance is warm and inviting, striking a perfect balance between sophistication and relaxation. The elegant décor and thoughtfully designed interiors create an atmosphere ideal for both special occasions and casual dining. The menu offers a delightful selection of dishes, each prepared with precision and presented beautifully. Absolutely delightful restaurant with staff exactly the way they should be; welcoming, and classy and with the ability to only come to the table when required. Service is absolutely first class. The menu is very good, with a good selection of dishes from appetisers to mains. If you have allerigies, you simply scan the QR code on the menu to deterimine what you can enjoy, simply by ticking the box of the product the food contains. There was a lack of choices for people with allergies though. The dessert menu was full of appealing choices, making it hard to determine what was chosen. Again, for allergens, you scan the menu, but i didn't find any desserts at all coming up, just the main menu. The atmosphere is that of a lively place, and the dress code with price brings in a particular type of client. It had been noted when booking that a party member was celebrating their birthday and that they had allergens, and provided a little something extra for the birthday girl. This was above and beyond service that I expected and was really very kind and generous. Overall everybody in the party had a great time that will be remembered for a long time.

I came here today just for cream tea for two with my mum. It was a gift from friends for my 50th birthday. The weather was beautiful today lovely and sunny so we chose to sit outside on the balcony terrace which had some lovely views. We had breakfast tea which was refilled and three scones each presented on a little stand. These were served warm with a separate dish of cream and jam along with a small dish of freshly cut up strawberries. This was a perfect amount of food and drink. The atmosphere was perfect. Inside the restaurant the decor was stunning even in the washroom it was beautiful with flowers on the ceiling. I will definitely be returning here for a meal next time as the food looked amazing. Highly recommend it here.

Had an exceptional lunch at The Ivy in Guildford, thanks to Spencer’s outstanding service. From the warm welcome to the perfect timing throughout the meal, Spencer made the experience feel effortless and enjoyable. The house prosecco was a standout – crisp, refreshing, and the perfect pairing for a relaxed midday treat. The starters were beautifully presented and bursting with flavour, setting the tone for a lunch that felt special from start to finish. I’ve already given The Ivy a 5-star review before, but this lunch, thanks to Spencer and the consistently excellent food, deserves another mention. A perfect way to spend the afternoon.

We celebrated a birthday at The Ivy in Guildford and it was unforgettable, thanks largely to Spencer’s exceptional service. From the moment we arrived, Spencer made us feel special, warm, and truly cared for – his attention to detail and genuine hospitality stood out in every interaction. A highlight of the evening was the birthday dessert paired with champagne – elegant, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. It wasn’t just about the food (though it was wonderful), but the way Spencer made the celebration feel unique and personal. He went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect, turning what could have been just a meal into a memory we’ll treasure. I’ve already given The Ivy a 5-star review before, but this experience deserves another one, this time with a special mention to Spencer. Thank you for making a birthday celebration truly exceptional.

Service was very slow. Servers were not attentive at the very slightest. The amount of times we tried to get their attention and were ignored unfortunately. Also pretty hard to share a dollop of 1 ketchup and 1 mayo between 3 people lol. Asked for more and never got back to us. The food was nice though. We got the fish and chips, the squids and the poached eggs with salmon. I want to note this for all those that eat halal - the manager said the food is not halal and has never been halal and received confirmation from the chef. This was shocking because I have been here numerous amount of times over the years (also this is the first time I’ve seen this manager) and have been told the chicken is halal. So I was not happy with being told one time it is and one time it isn’t. However most recently I can confirm it is not halal.

The delicious food prepared with fresh great quality ingredients, the friendly and attentive staff, the ambiance and atmosphere, it all just leave you feeling a bit special and glamorous. I would also highly recommend BS for parties. We had our wedding lunch organized by the incredible Owner Cinzia. We put complete trust in her hands and that payed off with all 28 of us being very happy, very well looked after and very well fed. Definitely our place to go in Guildford Barbara & John

Tip top service from start to finish given from every member staff. The food was both delicate and full of flavor... just so delicious. The wine selection was outstanding and reasonably priced. The extensive knowledge offered by the sommelier made our selections that much easier. We will definitely return and bring friends who have never experienced this wonderful establishment and know it will not disappoint !

A quiet night (to begin with) but the service and FOOD more than made up for it! Some of the finest Italian food we’ve had in years. Simple, authentic, special! And it started getting busier after 8 (as you might expect expect). Top class.

Excellent first meal at the Thai Terrace. Service was fantastic, all the staff were lovely and we can’t wait to come back and see them again soon. The food was high quality, came quickly and was authentic. Would be epic in the summer, heard the cocktails are good too.

Amazing authentic Thai food. I’ve been here multiple times now and definitely recommend coming. Such a nice vibe and great for a date night. Will definitely come back over and over again

Really loved our visit to this restaurant. The food was very good, the staff were very friendly, the views were great and the atmosphere was good too. Both the Chicken Panang and Lamb Massaman curries were delicious. The cocktail menu is also very extensive with a good selection of tasty drinks. We would definitely recommend this restaurant and we will hopefully be back to try more dishes and cocktails

Such a lovely venue for lunch or a special occasion alike. Unusual location and that makes it more special. The food is great and authentic but one comment is that it’s a little sweet - everything has a little too much sugar or sweet sauce. Dialling these back a bit would make it 5*. Highly recommend nevertheless.

The good: the ladies at reception are friendly. The decor is great. My pad thai was decent. The bad: the waiters don't smile. The curry was really flat in flavour (the worst I've ever had tbh). The sticky rice was made with the wrong rice. No Thai restaurant should ever get this wrong. There are much better restaurants in Guildford. Spend your money elsewhere and actually enjoy your food.

Great view, food was amazing (particularly the duck). The calamari was a bit light for the cost. Services was generally good but a bit slow (but the restaurant was also pretty quiet).
