To be honest I came here just for the salt ice cream and wasn’t disappointed. Only four stars because beyond the ice cream there wasn’t much to see or do, all the same I’d come back for that delicious opportunity to put salt on my ice cream without feeling weird.
Well worth the 100 yen entrance fee if you can speak some Japanese as the staff are very friendly and have great stories to tell of the area and the history of salt making in the region.

A beautiful place for the perfect view of the sea of Japan. Take the ticket and go down to the blue caves. We went at night time so it was dark for us but still it was worth going. The sound of ocean is just mesmerising. They have a couple of chairs there, where you can sit and enjoy a coffee (if you bring it with you).

Mitsuke Island - A Once Grand Rock in Disrepair
Visiting Mitsuke Island in Suzu, Ishikawa, was a bittersweet experience. Unfortunately, since the earthquake on January 1, 2024, the island appears to be crumbling and in total disrepair. The stone path that once led to the island has been lost to the sea, the iconic red torii gate is missing, and the rock itself has crumbled significantly. It's devastating to see this once beautiful place reduced to its current state.
Despite the damage, there's still a sense of the island's former grandeur, and I sincerely hope that Mitsuke Island can make a comeback one day. This once vibrant and stunning landmark deserves to be restored. 😢

Mitsukejima Rock is a nice scenic spot on the coast that is supposedly great for couples. There is a bell for lovers to ring that is on land near the rock, and a cafe/souvenir shop nearby. Even though it was rainy and the tide was high, we were able to climb over some stones and get near the rock. Altogether we spent less than an hour here, on a day with nice weather I'd like to come again during low tide.
The view is great, and this would be a lovely place to have a picnic. There is a gift shop there where you can buy local specialties, such as many different flavors of salt.
An interesting outcrop that's tall and imposing. A good chill out spot and I wonder if one can walk to the outcrop when the tide is low.

Rokkosaki Lighthouse is a charming, ivory-colored tower situated on a seaside headland. It's a well-known spot for both sunrise and sunset views, offering breathtaking scenery that captivates visitors. Finding this location can be challenging initially, as one must park their car in the large parking lot before crossing the street and entering a smaller street with no cars allowed. From there, a staircase leads to an uphill hike lasting around ten minutes to reach the lighthouse.

Beautiful and peaceful! Nothing much here but worth for coming! We came after a big earthquake! There are still some road and houses that got effected by earthquakes but Noto is very lovely city! I do recommend you to come!
Nice historical landmark at the edge of Noto Peninsula. You have to walk up the hill to the lighthouse; the road is closed to traffic. Park at the road rest station at the bottom of the hill. There are apparently a number of other attractions around, but we didn't have time to explore more than the lighthouse on our visit.
Amazing view from the lighthouse. Some uphill walk from the carpark, about 15 mins to the lighthouse. Worth to have a look if you are driving.

If you're exploring the Noto Peninsula, a visit to Shōya-no-Yakata is an absolute must! This charming eatery captures the essence of traditional Japanese dining with its nostalgic ambiance reminiscent of days gone by. Nestled near the coast, it offers stunning views that enhance your meal experience. The menu features delightful options like the Noto beef steak bowl, which melts in your mouth, and fresh seafood bowls that showcase local flavors.
Loved the chill, laid back but authentic Japanese roadside eating house vibe. Had the sashimi set meal with chawanmushi, and the seafood was really fresh and full of flavour..
Overall ambience was good too, with staff quite attentive, but not excessively so.
Bonus tip #1: for English speakers, you'll want to ask for Wadakiyomi-san, who speaks amazingly well enough to hold a conversation. She's really chatty too, and a joy to talk to, especially when she's free!
Bonus tip #2: as you leave the place, cross the road to the other side and look to the left. There's a really nice waterfall (Tarumi Waterfall) that you can walk over to. I loved that the water just cascades right to your feet (before flowing further on to the beach just below you). On a hot day, the cold water is a godsend. On a cooler day, just standing back and admiring the falls is a sheer pleasure!
