Amaharashi Coast (Noto Peninsula Quasi-National Park)

Mentioned on
7 lists
Nature preserve
National reserve
Scenic spot
Amaharashi Coast, located within the Noto Peninsula Quasi-National Park, offers breathtaking views of rocky islets and the majestic Tateyama Mountains. This picturesque coastline has been recognized as one of Japan's top beaches and has inspired poets throughout history. The famous Onna Iwa rocks against the backdrop of the snow-capped 3,000-meter Tateyama Mountain Range make for a stunning sight that attracts photographers from all over Japan.
Magnificent spot for some stunning photos of the woman's rock against the backdrop of Tateyama. Be sure to come on a clear and sunny day for the best views and pictures. Other than the coast itself, there's also a visitor centre that offers good panoramic views over the coast and a small store to buy local specialities. Do note that the place is slightly crowded, so expect to wait a little while for a parking spot if you're driving.
Ziyuan W — Google review
A very nice spot in Toyama where you can enjoy a stunning view of the Japanese Alps, the sea, and trains passing by — all in one frame. It’s a must-visit when in Toyama. Highly recommended to everyone! Be sure to check the train schedule in advance and reserve your photo spot for the best experience.
NNchan — Google review
Beautiful coastal line where you can see the magnificent Sea of Japan. There is a beautiful walking foot path also along this coastal line to enjoy a stroll. Also opposite to This, there is a cafe shop from where you can sit and enjoy the view of the sea while sipping coffee or tea or while having ice cream. There are also toilets and a good place to sit and enjoy the view.

Walking distance from Amaharashi station to the point of the scene. Cloudy on Oct 22, 2025 but you can see the shadow of mountain a little bit. Not bad The train will come in every 1.30 hr.
Chutapha C — Google review
Stunning views of the Onnaiwa Rock, with the Tateyama Mountains in the background. The area is walking distance from Amaharashi Station, which in turn is accessible from Takaoka via the Himi Line. The beach is sandy, so be careful when trying to walk on the rocks as the sand may affect your balance while walking. There are lots of ducks swimming which makes for a charming sight. There is also a nearby roadside station where you can have snacks and buy souvenirs. The roadside station also has an observatory deck. Please consult the train timetables so that you can plan your visit, if visiting by train.
Alvin D — Google review
Such a picturesque little corner. Unfortunately weather was bad, so we couldn't see any snowy mountain, but still worth it. The small shrine, the cave, the railway, the islet and the landscape all mixed together create such a perfect synergy
Andrea R — Google review
A short distance walk to Amaharashi JR station. Train passes right next to the coast. Beautiful location to see the Alps nearby. Unfortunately, no snow caps were seen during our visit. There's a nearby restaurant to recharge yourself and admire the landscape view at the same time. Visited on October 22 ,2025
Syafiq — Google review
28/10/2025. Decent weather, clear sky and amazing landscape. Able to see 立山連峰. A beautiful and peaceful seaside. A must-go spot if you have a trip to Kanazawa.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Takaoka Great Buddha, also known as Daibutsu, is a magnificent and imposing bronze statue located in the Daibutsuji Temple in Takaoka City, Toyama. Standing at 15.85 meters tall and weighing 65 tons, it is among the largest Buddha statues in Japan. The monument's history dates back to 1745 and was originally made of wood before being reconstructed in bronze in 1933.
Stumbling around town we walked past a bunch of buildings and suddenly this great Buddha sat before us! What a pleasant surprise in the heart of the city. We were walking to the park and behold... This guy is huge!

Takaoka Great Buddha - A Tranquil Escape in Takaoka Takaoka Great Buddha, located within Takaoka City, is a true hidden gem. The entrance is free, making it accessible for everyone, and the free parking is a nice perk, although there are limited spots. During the winter, the temple is particularly enchanting, with the snow creating a serene and picturesque landscape. The temple grounds are peaceful, offering a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Whether you're seeking tranquility or simply a beautiful place to visit, Takaoka Great Buddha is definitely worth a stop. The snowy surroundings only add to the magic. 🫶🏻

It’s a very small Shrine with a magnificent Buddha statue. It’s very close to the Takaoka station and we can reach by walk or by bus. You will need just 15 to 20 mins in this temple and there is also place to sit to watch the Buddha.
Lakshmi — Google review
I went to Takaoka just to see the Great Buddha. The serenity and silence is so emotional. The grounds are immaculate. While this is not the original Great Buddha, it's still a sight to see. I made an offering and lit incense
Alan S — Google review
The Takaoka Great Buddha is one of Japan’s most impressive Buddha statues and a must-see landmark in Takaoka. Standing at 15.85 meters, this serene and beautifully crafted bronze statue is often called one of Japan’s three great Buddhas, alongside those in Nara and Kamakura. What sets the Takaoka Daibutsu apart is its detailed craftsmanship—it was cast using the city’s renowned metalworking techniques, which have been a part of Takaoka’s heritage for centuries. The current bronze statue, completed in 1933, replaced an earlier wooden version that had been lost to fire multiple times. Despite its relatively modern construction, it retains a deep sense of history and spiritual significance. Visitors can enter the small hall beneath the statue, which houses Buddhist artifacts and historical displays about the statue’s creation and past versions. The peaceful atmosphere makes it a great spot for quiet reflection.
Wisanu T — Google review
It's a small quiet place located among many houses in a quiet inner street. Very peaceful. Since the place is quite small, a 10 minutes visit would be more than enough. It's good to include as one of the visit location among the visit of the city.

Visited on May 9, 2025. Impressive. The monks tend the flower garden, the true dharma farmers. For a special treat, try Amida coffee across the street, namesake of the Buddha temple A divine cup!

Takaoka Castle Ruins

Mentioned on

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Historic Sites
Takaoka Castle Ruins, located in a leafy park known for its spring cherry blossoms, is the site of the 17th-century Takaoka Castle built by Toshinaga Maeda. The castle's stone walls still stand today and are surrounded by three water moats. The vast site also features shrines, a museum, a zoo, restaurants, and other facilities.
Takaoka Castle Ruins, now part of Takaoka Kojo Park, is a fascinating historical site that blends history with natural beauty. While the original castle no longer stands, the remnants of its moats, stone walls, and layout offer a glimpse into its past as an important Edo-period fortress built by Maeda Toshinaga, the second lord of the Kaga Domain.
Wisanu T — Google review
The site features a magnificent stone structure and exterior formations of a 17th century Japanese castle. It is the only castle site in Japan that remains almost completely intact. Unfortunately, the castle buildings no longer exist, but there is plenty to enjoy. For castle enthusiasts, this is a site with a lot to see. There is a large free parking lot near the site. There is also no admission fee.

Went on 23 Nov 2024, only left lesser than 30% of the autumn leafs on the whole place. May look great if it's 1 week earlier. Some group of people are catching pokemon go inside. I suppose is a special spawn area for pokemon go

Very nice park to walk through and around
Jeffrey N — Google review
This is a great destination for flower lovers when they're in season. In addition to its famous cherry blossoms, it has heritage plum trees with a variety of different colors of blossom. It's also family friendly with a zoo and spacious park grounds. There are a variety of full facilities, including some excellent restaurants. Do keep in mind that it's nationally famous and so can become incredibly crowded during it's busy seasons.
Theron M — Google review
The castle, or statues were okay to look at. The park is the real draw. With no English signs it was not possible to understand the significance or back story of the location. Sat under the pagoda with the golden Phoenix/crane and ate a snack before heading on to the park portion of the grounds.

Zuiryu-ji Temple, located in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, is a long-standing Buddhist temple with a rich history. Built by Maeda Toshitsune, it belongs to the Soto school of Zen Buddhism and was constructed to offer prayers for the repose of his brother's soul. The temple complex includes two prayer halls and peaceful gardens adorned with statues of deities.
Magnificent temple with expansive grounds and interesting architecture that maintains it's tranquility to visitors and tourists alike. Simply purchase your tickets at the entrance and you'll have a great time soaking in the atmosphere as you learn a little more about the temple grounds and their mode of worship.
Ziyuan W — Google review
Zuriyu-ji is an absolutely stunning temple complex, crafted entirely from wood, which gives it a warm, natural atmosphere. The craftsmanship and serenity of the place make it truly special. Visitors have the unique opportunity to join a guided tour led by Buddhist monks, offering fascinating insights into the temple’s spiritual and historical background. For just 500 yen, you can enjoy a cup of traditional Japanese tea paired with delicate local sweets, all while taking in a breathtaking view from the temple grounds. It’s a place that invites peace, reflection, and appreciation for Japanese culture — highly recommended for anyone seeking a meaningful and memorable experience.

It is one of the most popular temples in Shin Takaota. You can take a bus or walk 15 mins to reach. Entrance fee ¥500 for adults. A brochure is given (English/Chinese). The main temples there are souvenirs or Good Fortune Charm to purchase. Please remove your shoes to go in. Staff are friendly to explain. If you purchase any products, a ¥50 voucher is given for you to purchase at the entrance gate F&B shop Worth visiting.
Pattern W — Google review
Zuiryu-ji, a national treasure and one of Japan’s finest Zen temples, is even more breathtaking in winter. With its majestic wooden architecture blanketed in snow, the temple takes on a serene, almost otherworldly beauty that makes it a must-visit in Takaoka. Built in the early Edo period by the Maeda clan to honor Maeda Toshinaga, Zuiryu-ji is a masterpiece of Soto Zen Buddhist architecture. The layout is perfectly symmetrical, with the Sanmon (main gate), Butsuden (Buddha Hall), and Hatto (Dharma Hall) aligned in a straight path, showcasing the temple’s disciplined aesthetic. During winter, the contrast of dark wooden beams against the white snow creates a picture-perfect scene, enhancing the temple’s quiet, meditative atmosphere. Despite the cold, visiting in winter has its perks—fewer crowds, a peaceful ambiance, and the rare chance to see this historic landmark in a different light. The stone pathways and courtyards covered in fresh snow make for stunning photography, especially in the early morning. The shoji (paper sliding doors) and wooden corridors add to the charm, giving visitors a true sense of Zen tranquility. If you’re in Takaoka during winter, Zuiryu-ji is an unforgettable experience, offering a glimpse into Japan’s rich history and spiritual beauty. Don’t forget to bring warm shoes, as the temple grounds can get icy!
Wisanu T — Google review
Great atmosphere and power spot. Architecture, structure of the buildings are amazing. Huge space and recommend to talk a walk slowly watching all the buildings slowly. Garden highlights the style of typical Zen temples. Entrance ¥500 and good enough free car parking. No rush. There is a small snack shop near the ticket counter which is good for having a break.
Chaminda M — Google review
We been there last week with my family and so amazing architectural and historical Buddhist temple in my hometown.
Meriam ( — Google review
Quiet temple with mainly locals. Good for those want to escape from crowd or tourists.
Chung K — Google review
A national treasure that is all for you. This temple is the typical example of the Edo period zen Buddhist temple. The construction using wooden structures, elevated slightly off the ground with tiled roofs and sliding doors. Free parking was available at the parking lot adjacent to the temple. Entrance fee was ¥500 per adult. There were not many tourists visiting the temple making it easier to enjoy the tranquility and perform meditation without unnecessary disturbances.

Takaoka Old Castle Park

Mentioned on

Park
Nature & Parks
Takaoka Old Castle Park is a captivating blend of history and nature, nestled just a short drive from the Takaoka Interchange. Established in 1875 on the grounds of the former Takaoka Castle, this expansive park spans an impressive 210,000 square meters and features remnants of castle ruins surrounded by three serene moats. Visitors can explore various attractions within the park, including Imizu-jinja Shrine, a zoo, and even a museum.
さくら🌸forest is very awesome, I enjoy the sunny morning, Suggesting to walk from Takaoka station directly to enjoy the street view. The another reason is the train duration between the two lcations is too long. If you come from KANAZAWA, you must take the Shinkensen with JR 4-day pass to Sintakaoka station. You can save much money, and then taking the train to Stakaoka station. Have a nice vacation!

Such a great place for cherry blossom and mot crowded in the early morning with a cozy breeze and great weather during a month of April 2025

Beautiful park, especially during spring when the cherry blossom trees are at their best. Went on a Sunday when families play and picnic. This is also a great place for fantastic street food. Very enjoyable visit.

It is a bit puzzling that there aren't many people here, it is such a nice garden. You will find a shrine and can buy souvenirs. If you bring bread, you can feed large koi fish and cute turtles.
Momo T — Google review
This incredibly beautiful park, is only a few minutes walk from the famous Takaoka Daibutsu (Great Buddha) and is both free, and open 24 hours. It was once the site of the Takaoka Castle however there is almost no evidence of the castle remaining. It is most definately worth a visit.

Yamachosuji Historical Preservation District

Mentioned on

Sights & Landmarks
Yamachosuji Historical Preservation District, along with the Kanayamachi District, forms Takaoka city's merchant and craftsman areas. This is where 90% of Japan's bronze metalwork is produced, including the casting of many bronze temple bells seen across the country. The district showcases a mix of architecture, with some wooden buildings lost in a fire in 1900 but rebuilt in brick or traditional Dozo-dzukuri style.
There are some old interesting house.

(Translated by Google) The road was widened to prevent fires, and fire-resistant storehouse-style houses were built along the street. It is a pleasant place to stroll along the rows of atmospheric buildings. There is a shop which can be viewed from the inside, and the elaborate transom in the guest room on the first floor, the gorgeous Buddhist altar, and the floor frames and desks made from ironwood, rosewood, and ebony - known as the three great Karaki woods - give a glimpse of the family's prosperity. Old buildings line both sides of the wide road, making it fun to stroll around. What surprised me was the Takaoka Shinkin Bank building. Although the building blends in with the cityscape, you can see the ATM inside, which made it interesting to see both old and new at the same time. The old brick bank was also amazing! (Translated by Google) In December 2000, it was designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings (Judenken). Yamacho-suji began when Maeda Toshinaga, the second head of the Kaga Maeda clan, built a merchant's town in Takaoka. Takaoka developed from the Edo period through the Meiji period, and Yamacho was the center of commercial activity. The current townscape was rebuilt following the great fire of 1900, with fire-resistant earthen storehouse-style main buildings being built, creating an eye-catching landscape. Alongside the earthen storehouse-style main buildings are authentic Western-style red brick banks and main houses incorporating Western architectural design, creating a distinctive historical landscape. The Takaoka Dozo-zukuri Town Museum (Former Murosaki Residence) is a facility where you can tour the townhouses of Yamacho-suji. If you're a fan of these (Important Preservation Districts), why not take a walk through this one-of-a-kind landscape? Takaokaeki Information Centre

Tourist information center
Visitor center
The Takaokaeki Information Centre provides a bicycle rental service where visitors can rent an ordinary three-speed bicycle for 200 baht per day. Upon filling in the necessary information, friendly staff members will provide a key and direct you to the nearby bicycle parking area. The bicycles are a convenient option for exploring Zengshan City Trail, offering an alternative means of transportation. Although the distance may be considerable, having access to these bicycles proves better than lacking any mode of transportation.
(Translated by Google) You can rent bicycles at the tourist information office for 300 yen a day, which is super cost-effective. You can also borrow from A to B and exchange for 600 yen per day. Please note that the rental time is 10:00-16:00, and the key must be returned before 4 p.m. The service staff was very patient. After completing the rental procedures, they explained in detail where to pick up the bike, how to return the bike, and how to take the elevator to the first floor to start the trip (the bicycles are on the second floor). In addition, there are maps and tourist information brochures available, which is really convenient for tourists. Riding a bicycle is really much more efficient, you just have to find a parking space. It should be noted that in Japan, parking is not permitted, and neither are bicycles. Some bicycle parking areas are specially marked, some have bicycle patterns painted on the ground, and some are like large, low clothes drying racks, or you can directly ask the store if parking is available. Fukuoka Camera Museum

Specialty Museums
The Fukuoka Camera Museum recently held a photo exhibition called Wonder Photo, with an admission fee of 300 yen. Despite its seemingly small exterior, the building surprisingly felt spacious on the inside. The interior design cleverly enhanced the viewing experience by creating a three-dimensional atmosphere. However, during peak times, there might be concerns regarding individual viewing speeds. In addition to the photo exhibition, visitors had the opportunity to explore a section dedicated to learning about camera history and mechanisms.
A little Camera Museum building by Tadao Ando. A mis-conception could be this museum is in Fukuoka but in fact it is near Kanazawa. Interior spaces felt a bit tight but a very well designed. The photography exhibition at Dec 2015 was very interesting. The displayed camera equipment was historic and provided a taste of the past technology. A building you should visit if you are a Ando or photography fan.

Yoshimune

Udon noodle restaurant
Yoshimune is a popular udon restaurant located in Takaracho, Takaoka City, known for its delicious curry udon. The restaurant tends to get crowded during lunch hours, with customers sometimes having to wait in line before being seated. It's recommended to arrive early to avoid the crowds.
If you are a curry udon lover or it’s your first time, you’ve come to the right place. The large size is large! Recommend the normal size and order a rice bowl on the side.
Geff D — Google review
A friend of mine who lives in this area recommended this restaurant known for its curry udon. The curry udon was substantial, with very sticky noodles and a soup that wasn’t the traditional dashi(based broth), it was more of a curry and udon combination. It had plenty of chunks of meat, almost like ham.

(Translated by Google) !! Whether it's delicious or not is up to the individual!! August 9, 2025, around 2:00 PM The car in the parking lot was completely out of range. 😳 As expected of a long holiday. It's been ages since I last visited Yoshimune on the first day of such a long holiday. I was talking about curry udon a while ago, so I wanted to eat it. I sometimes crave Yoshimune. I arrived late, so I was seated without waiting. Of course, I had curry udon and rice. Oh, they don't serve pickles anymore. 😢 Curry udon is 1,050 yen. Rice is 200 yen. I miss the days when rice was 50 yen. 😁 Under the previous owner's ownership, you could see the noodles being made, which was also great. 🙌 The taste is the same as always! The chicken is just seasoned with a strong soy sauce. It's delicious, even with that. 😋 People who don't like strong flavors might not like it that much. I hate green onions, so of course! I left them out! By the way, if you pay 200 yen you get a generous amount of green onions 🤣 No way lol (Original) !!

(Translated by Google) I came to Yoshimune, a Takaoka City restaurant famous for its soul food curry udon. I arrived 15 minutes before the 11:00 opening, but there were already about 10 people in line. The restaurant is quite spacious, and I ordered their specialty curry udon (1,050 yen). It didn't take long to arrive, and I was surprised at the size of the bowl! It was filled with plenty of curry. The udon was apparently chewy Himi udon, and the portion was quite large, probably equivalent to two bowls at a regular restaurant. The curry had just the right amount of spiciness, with an exquisite flavor that develops a sweet aftertaste, so even though the portion was large, I was able to keep eating the udon. It also had lots of chunks of chicken, and even though I'd skipped breakfast, it was difficult to finish it all at lunchtime. Payment is cash only. Ramen Jigen

Ramen restaurant
Takeout Restaurant
らぁめん次元 is a casual ramen shop known for its Takaoka 'black' noodles served in a thick soy sauce broth. The staff are friendly and accommodating, with English menus available for international visitors. The Takaoka black ramen is recommended, and customers can request a lighter soup if they prefer less saltiness. This style of ramen may be on the salty side, but patrons can adjust the flavor to their liking.
I've been apprehensive about trying black ramen because there have been a lot of instances where even "normal" ramen shops have been too salty for me, but this was delicious. The black shouyu was lighter than expected, and it almost had a refreshing taste. It was still a little too salty to drink the broth on its own, but it was delicious with the noodles! Bean sprout topping is a MUST. There was a line of maybe 9 people in front of me, but it moved relatively fast, and service was very efficient.
Bennie — Google review
Friendly staff, a delicious bowl of ramen with a yummy hot croquette and a scrumptious rice ball to help with the strong flavor. I went for the full soy sauce flavor and do not regret it. The guy behind me ordered extra chashu and I probably should have too!

Was told by locals this would be a good place to introduce myself to black ramen, as the flavoring can be intense at some other shops. It was not as salty or strong as I anticipated and was able to finish the entire bowl! Recommend the ¥1000 yen set where you also get a rice ball and croquette!

The special menu was Takaoka ramen. You should try this ramen. And you did not need to worry because the staff can speak english and also the shop provide the english menu. Shoryu is a sleek eatery that specializes in delectable ramen dishes, set in a laid-back ambiance. Renowned for its popularity among locals, the restaurant offers an array of mouth-watering options. Their soy sauce-infused ramen, known as Toyama black, is a crowd favorite and is served alongside scrumptious rice balls. Incredibly prompt service ensures that patrons are served their steaming bowls of Toyama black within minutes.
One of the best among the famous ramen places in town. Location is very easy to find. The place is modernly huge with ample space and tables for grouo eaters. The ramen has lots of flavors to choose from but I prefer the salty flavor with chashuu pork paired with onigiri. Prices are very reasonable. The taste and presentation was superb and a must-go for ramen eaters while in town of Takaoka.

Enjoyed the ramen, ordered the spicy miso butter corn ramen, was very good, but not as spicy as I thought it would be. Gyoza was very good and the onigiri is covered in what I think is konbu and was very tasty. The speciality of this place is the black shoyu ramen, will try if I get to this part of the world again.

(Translated by Google) I visited with my family on a Sunday. When we arrived just after 11:00, it was already full and there was a line outside. It seemed like a popular restaurant, so the atmosphere was lively and the turnover was fast, and we were able to get in within about 20 minutes. This time, I ordered the soy sauce ramen. While the pork slices were delicious, I personally felt the overall balance was a little lacking, and the soup was a little weak. I also tried the spicy miso ramen my family ordered, but it also felt a little lacking in punch. It may be soul food beloved by locals, but honestly, I'm not sure it's worth waiting in line for. I'd like to return at a later date. SHORYU is one of the top Toyama Black Ramen shops in Takaoka. The parking lot is always packed, so know that there is a 2nd parking lot across the street. The inside is larger than most ramen shops, but you will likely have to wait, though the turnaround is fast. The broth is medium salty compared to other Toyama Black Ramen, the charsiew is meaty and chunky. The Rice Ball is signature Toyama style covered in kelp seaweed. The gyoza is small but has a nice kick of ginger.

Ramen Makoto Ya offers a unique dish known as Toyama Black ramen, characterized by its rich soy sauce-infused broth and thick egg noodles. Many patrons regard it as the best among their selection, appreciating its flavorful and salty profile, accompanied by perfectly textured noodles that absorb the delicious soup. The chashu is generously portioned, tender, though slightly dry. Overall, this establishment provides an excellent dining experience; however, opinions may differ regarding the intensity of the soy sauce flavor.
(Translated by Google) I decided to come here because it's the original! I was excited when I saw the building. The atmosphere of this long-established restaurant was great. The interior was also very tasteful and I really liked it! There were also lots of colored paper posters. I ordered the recommended classic dish in a regular size. As the instructions said, "Stir first," I mixed it well before eating. As you can see in the photo, the noodles were so well-seasoned that they looked brown. The overall flavor was quite punchy, and I could really feel that "this is real black ramen!" It was a great experience. Thank you for the meal! One of the good Toyama Black. I still don't think you can drink the soup but what it does it does well: Great textured noodles; awesome chashu and good egg. the 'shio' soup is also super salty but works on that same level. The noodles there are thinner so it's nice for a change.

I think it’s good. For black ramen. But for my opinion it’s too salty for me and my bf. We cannot drink soup at all For service, they are so friendly and nice :) so I gave for service 5 stars Maybe who like food that too salty is more suitable! Try it one when you come to Toyama But I do warn that it’s too salty

This is my third time having Toyama Black ramen, a deeply soy sauce-based ramen with thick egg noodles. I will say it's probably the best of the three I've had, being flavorful and salty, with great noodle texture and saturation. Chashu was thick, large cut, and soft, but just a hair dry. Great bowl overall, but I'm still not sold on the strong soy sauce flavor. To each their own. Give this one a try.

That said, they offer a fairly beginner-friendly black ramen. It's an easy-to-eat black ramen, but for those looking for a full-fledged black ramen, it might not be enough. This ramen is comforting, with plenty of pepper. I love pepper, so I ordered it out of curiosity, but it was so thick I couldn't finish it. The black ramen was delicious. Located south of Takaoka Station, うどん・そば 今庄 高岡駅南店 is a popular spot known for its delicious udon and soba noodles. With over 30 years of history, the restaurant offers a unique dining experience. One interesting dish to try is the Tentama Champon, which features both soba and udon noodles in one bowl. The strong soup complements the noodles perfectly, creating an addictive combination.

Takaoka's udon soup I don't have a chance to taste it in other regions, To my wife who is not familiar with Takaoka, In the sense that I was able to understand that taste. As soon as I strengthened myself and left the store. PS. Also on the JR Fukui Station concourse There is a restaurant called "Imajo Soba". It's a completely different taste from here. That's delicious, but When listening to customers' orders, 80% of people ordered soba. It's definitely a soup stock that goes better with soba than udon. I feel like that. Transportation in Takaoka

Getting around Takaoka can be a little daunting if you’re new here. We can help list some of the major public transportation methods if you don’t want to rely on a car.

Nearby airports

Komatsu Airport

Airport
International airport
Regional airport
Komatsu Airport is a small local airport with a great viewing area to watch airplanes, including those from the nearby Komatsu Air Force base. The airport has a single passenger terminal building serving domestic and international flights. There are big shops on the first floor and smaller ones on the ground floor, but be cautious as some items may be overpriced. The information service is helpful and accommodating, even assisting with providing space for Ashar prayer for Muslim travelers.
I used Komatsu Airport today. It’s really disappointing that ANA flights will be reduced in the future. The airport opens at 6:25 a.m., and there are lounges for both ANA and JAL.
EISUKE I — Google review
Compact rural airport. The access is very bad. 1 hour to Fukui and Ishikawa. 12 mins to Komatsu station. The bus never waits for passengers at the bus stops even knowing that the airplane is landed. They always let passengers wait for 5-10 mins till the bus comes to the bus stops. Why cant they wait before passengers come out of the exit??? Cannot understand their operation at all. Plenty of shoos but limited and bad range of cafe/restaurants.
H I — Google review
Small but serves both national and international flights! The checking in line are long due to the limited service window for checking in flights and the security checkpoint for international flights is also very, very slow due to then only have one line and one X-ray machine to serve international passengers! The second floor duty free shop is pretty nice, lots choice for and the price is pretty fair!

Very convenient Airport with limited facilities behind the security checkpoints. The visitors deck on the top level is great for airplane spotting. The airplane shop is fantastic.
TheMisterMets — Google review
Very small airport with only two gates, yet incredibly chaotic. I’ve been flying as a Senator for over four years and have seen many airports, but I’ve never experienced anything like this. The staff seemed completely untrained – I almost missed my flight because they didn’t know how to process a simple payment for 5kg of excess baggage. I was the first at the airport and the last to reach the gate. Hardly anyone spoke even basic English. Definitely not what you'd expect from an airport. If possible, it’s better to just take the Shinkansen to Tokyo or Osaka instead.

Komatsu Airport has limited security check spots, and waiting times skyrocket during the day. However the observation deck is wonderful, giving any aviation lover the time to admire the planes and sky. Komatsu is rather a small international airport, and has a really bad placement from Fukui, or even Komatsu Station. Thank you Komatsu Airport for a wonderful time.

Visited with my son for just to watch aeroplanes. This is a small local airport but rather many airplanes can be watched. Also there is the Komatsu Air Force base located right next to the airport. We didn't see any fighter flying this time, but with a bit of luck you might. Car parking lot is available, free to park for one hour.

Noto Airport (Noto-Satoyama Airport) (NTQ)

Airport
Regional airport
Visitor Centers
Noto Airport (Noto-Satoyama Airport) (NTQ) is a small airport nestled in the mountains of the Noto Peninsula. It's served by two daily flights from ANA. The airport is conveniently located for accessing Noto Town, Suzu, Wajima, and Oku-Noto Shioda Village. As a roadside station, it offers plenty of souvenirs.
Two flights a day ! Noto - Haneda -Noto only

Garbage airport in the middle of nowhere. No one speaks any English. All the buses and taxies take cash ONLY in 2025, even suica isn’t accepted. While I went to the ATM to withdraw cash, my bus left without me even before it’s scheduled leave. I hate this place

(Translated by Google) 2 flights a day, only to Haneda I'm fine with it since I'm using Haneda, but a friend of mine complained that it was difficult to use. The staff's service is good, but due to reconstruction work, rental cars are always booked out and are often unavailable. There are quite a few buses 🚌 There was also a trip to Kanazawa Station.

I was worried that the airport facilities would be damaged after the big earthquake, but there was no visible damage and they were open as usual. The airport was surprisingly well-equipped, • There are souvenir shops on the first and second floors, with a lineup of local products • There is a restaurant on the third floor, where you can enjoy a meal while looking at the view • There are several food trucks in the parking lot in front of the airport, where you can purchase snacks and drinks • There is also a restaurant at the back of the parking lot, so there are plenty of food options Although there are not many flights, I thought it was a convenient airport to use as a base for sightseeing. Although reconstruction is still in progress, I felt that the whole area is working hard and looking forward (Original)

(Translated by Google) As an airport, it is compact and functional with minimal facilities. However, as it is only expected to have two flights per day and a maximum of 300 users, there are excessive facilities and staff. No matter how you look at it, I don't think it can be profitable. Perhaps it should be turned into a roadside station or a service area for the highway that runs alongside it. Or perhaps a city hall or something similar could be added. I would like to see some kind of deregulation so that regional airports like this can be viable. (Translated by Google) This was my first visit, and it seems the number of flights is quite limited. However, since it is an airport, the grounds are vast. The view of the runway from the observation space within the airport facilities is spectacular. Naturally, there are also various facilities such as toilets, restaurants, and rest areas, so you can relax and enjoy your visit. It is sure to be an interesting and fascinating spot for airplane enthusiasts as well as general tourists. Although it is not a large airport, the interior has a clean and calm atmosphere, and the design that gives off a warm wooden vibe was impressive. The shop is stocked with a wide variety of Noto specialties, allowing you to experience the charm of the region until the very end of your trip. The staff were also friendly, and their consideration for passengers was evident. I felt that this was an attractive airport as a gateway to the region. Go Noto! Toyama Airport

Airport
Sights & Landmarks
Toyama Airport is a small but well-equipped airport with friendly and helpful staff. It offers a cozy atmosphere, spacious and clean facilities, as well as a variety of amenities including souvenir shops, restaurants, and ATM machines. The airport also provides free parking and overlooks stunning alpine peaks. Despite being accessible mainly by local bus from Toyama station, it offers a pleasant transit experience with no tourist crowds.
A small airport but has all the necessary facilities. Pretty cozy place. The airport staff are friendly and helpful. There is a gift shop inside if you have some time to spare while waiting. The view from the airport is amazing, overlooking the alpine peaks from far. Overall a great airport to transit from.

It's a very small local airport but it had everything needed for an airport. The toilets are Japanese standard clean, and there's even a sushi shop that is decent. Take note that the airport limousine bus is not like the ones from Narita or Haneda - they are just regular buses, so don't expect dedicated luggage storage under the bus carriage.

I had an incredible experience at Toyama Airport on 30/9/2025. After arriving by bus from Toyama Station, I realized I had lost my wallet before even checking in. I was quite stressed. The staff at the airport immediately approached me and asked if something was wrong. When I explained my situation, they quickly verified the bus details and contacted the bus station staff without hesitation. They found my wallet still on the bus. I was worried I might not get it back before my flight, but the staff reassured me with a warm smile and told me not to worry as they ensured I received it before boarding. Fortunately, I got my wallet back before my flight from Toyama to Haneda, Tokyo. I like to thank the staff at Toyama Airport and Toyama Station for their professionalism, kindness, and efficiency. They went above and beyond in assisting me, and I truly appreciate their help. I highly recommend Toyama Airport for its outstanding service and caring staff. Thank you again to everyone who helped me that day!

Nice local airport. They have a well-stocked souvenir shop as well as several nice restaurants. The counter staff are friendly and helpful. It's clean and spacious. The free parking is a nice bonus. The security staff are friendly and courteous. They also have the local immigration office in the building. There are ATM machines and service counters as well.
