In the charming town of Nozawa Onsen, Ogama stands out as one of the 30 natural hot springs. This outdoor onsen is a certified national natural monument and is known for its nearly 100-degree hot water that bubbles up from deep underground. Surrounded by shrines, this historic site also features a market where locals cook vegetables and eggs in the scalding water. Visitors can sample these delicacies while enjoying the beautiful surroundings.
Beautiful town with onsen , the market next street will cooking there vegetables, eggs at the onsen water . Try some they just so sweet and delicious.
Eliza B — Google review
Not much to see but a spot where locals can use the hot springs to cook or wash, non-locals not allowed to enter, it was quite messy when I went with planks and other stuff everywhere, probably renovation work after the winter. Saw one local in the morning, otherwise very quiet.
Helena W — Google review
Cool open hot spring at the top of a hill in the village. Only locals are allowed to use the spring, as it’s so hot that it’d burn the uninitiated , but it’s a beautiful sight nonetheless.
Jason D — Google review
Beautiful onsen For villagers only
Sansiri K — Google review
We, turists , can't get in or use here. Just for locals.
Google review
This preserves for local residents only. Local people use this onsen to broil eggs and vegetables.
Google review
Ogama is an outdoor hot spring which is surrounded by shrines, set in a beautiful, historic corner of Nozawa Onsen. This onsen is so hot (90℃), locals use it to cook vegetables and eggs. You can try some of this food in the market next to the onsen. There is also a large foot onsen around the corner (summer only). If you head down the hill from Ogama, you will see some of the most beautiful Ryokan accommodation and gardens in Nozawa Onsen.
Nozawa P — Google review
It's fun to buy corn from one of the local shops cooked in the naturally boiling water if the Ogama.

Matsuba-no-yu

Mentioned on
2 lists
Day-use onsen
Onsen
Matsuba-no-yu is conveniently located just 100 meters away from Ogama. The water at this public bath contains beneficial elements such as Glauber's salt, gypsum, and sulfur, known for their potential to alleviate various health issues including hemorrhoids, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, paralysis, and neuralgia. Despite its small size, the bath area feels spacious due to its high ceiling. Additionally, guests can enjoy the fresh outdoor air while bathing indoors.
Free public bath. Small bath but spacious feeling as high ceiling. Bath is inside, but get the fresh air from the outside.
Johan — Google review
Less hot than Oyuu, but much smaller and the water was dirty in the afternoon
Filip D — Google review
Really loved this onsen. Only complaint is one of the local women treated me rudely although I followed the rules of onsen strictly. I had already been in there for ten minutes and I had an injured leg. She came in an passive aggressively turned the tap off which I was next to and got angry at me. I assume She thought I was having a shower in the onsen - when I already had by sitting next to the wall and bathing, i was not bathing in the onsen- I was just getting used to the temperature as it was a very cold night. Can make you really uncomfortable when you’re naked and another naked person is critiquing you and bothering you when you cold tired and vulnerable lol are just trying to relax. And another night an Australian woman was loudly yelling to her partner and son on the other side. So basically- loved the onsen, didnt like the company in the onsen. Not very foreigner friendly and I get that- but I am very respectable person. Maybe yell at the loud Aussie lady.
Georgia K — Google review
Even less hot than Kumanotearayu (an onsen already considered less scalding than most in the town). Not hot enough in my opinion but may be suitable for those who want something warm rather than hot.
Georgia S — Google review
Four words: free, hot and relaxing. Lovely for an early morning soak or/ and after an afternoon snowboarding... or whatever exercise brings you to Nozawa Onsen. These smaller onsen are always worth experiencing, mix it in with one of the paid options and you will undoubtedly increase your experience of the town.

Tomiki Pickles Factory Direct Sales Shop, birthplace of Nozawana

Mentioned on

Manufacturer
Tomiki Pickles Factory Direct Sales Shop, birthplace of Nozawana, is a must-visit destination for pickle enthusiasts. The shop offers a variety of fresh produce and baked goods alongside the famous Nozawana pickles. These pickles are highly sought after and rarely found outside Nagano. Visitors can enjoy the convenience of purchasing these delicious pickles at affordable prices without having to pickle them at home.
(Translated by Google) I took a detour when heading to Niigata. ⭐︎There was a comment of 1, but it's not particularly expensive. The staff at the store were also kind. Pickling vegetables reduces bulk considerably and takes a lot of effort, so I think it's actually cheaper at this price point. Regarding Kanjin pickles, I bought Nozawana pickles and apple butter. The pickled Nozawana tasted like it was pickled in salt and tasted better after a while. The apple butter was rich and delicious when I spread it on toast.

(Translated by Google) I actually wanted to go there and buy some, but since I don't ski or snowboard, I don't have any business to go to Nozawa Onsen, so I bought some pickles online. It was delicious. In the first place, my local supermarket was selling Nozawana pickled products in collaboration with a local pickle shop, so I was interested in that shop, so I searched and found this shop. I looked at this restaurant's website and asked for the tortoiseshell-colored Nozawana, which is only available during the winter season. The lactic acid-fermented tortoiseshell-colored Nozawana that is eaten locally is delicious and has a good reputation among my family, so it is only available during the winter season. I re-ordered it inside. Actually, I'd like to order it in a barrel, but my region doesn't get cold so it's difficult considering the quality of the pickles. So, I thought of it as a winter treat and ordered some pickles from here.

(Translated by Google) Many of the Nozawana sold as souvenirs are rather salty, probably because they have a long shelf life, but the Nozawana here has just the right amount of saltiness and is very delicious. Moreover, it is additive-free. There are several types depending on how they are pickled, so next time I would like to buy all types and enjoy the taste.

Although it is a lightly salted product, it is simply delicious due to fermentation! It's delicious! Both children and adults couldn't stop picking at it. When I go to Hokushin, I repeat Tomiki Tsukemono.

The price is as low as mass-produced products, and it's much cheaper than buying raw and pickling it at home. Other than Shinshu Hokushin So, since I don't see it very often, is there a way to get it by mail order? Is there nothing else? Why don't I ask on the phone? We also sell them at Nagano Tokyu, Station Building Midori, and the factory. It's from 9am to 5pm! Ski & Snowboard Areas
Nestled in the breathtaking Japanese Alps, Nozawa Onsen Snow Resort is a winter wonderland that promises an unforgettable experience for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts. With its impressive 297 hectares of ski trails and a vertical drop of 1,086 meters from the summit of Mt. Kenashiyama, this resort offers something for everyone.
Super fun resort with lots to explore! Very beginner friendly as you can take greens all the way down from the new gondola (through rinkai). There’s a lot of flat portions so you might get stuck a couple times if snowboarding. Take the opposite route for the famous skyline route (mostly reds). It also seemed very family friendly with lots of activities for kids!
Akira — Google review
A great ski resort for beginners to intermediate skiers. Slopes are long enough, and there is plenty of beautiful snow and nature. Main downside is the connection between slopes which is not always optimal.
Alain R — Google review
04-Jan-2025 First snowboarding experience ever. Loved it enjoyed every moment there. They have beginner to expert levels and area is quite large. All type of ski lovers can enjoy and learn skiing here. We rented from Solomon located just in way to resort. We rented two snowboard sets (7000yen each for 5hrs). Fell down a-lot and tried many times and hope I got better. The onsen village is also great place to explore near the ski resort. We strolled in evening in our way back. Recommended and definitely going again.
Rahul B — Google review
Great Ski/Snowboard resort !!! So much beautiful snow. Many different routes for all levels. Many beautiful ridge trails that have great views. Our trip was mid march and we were lucky as we enjoyed great snow (a week prior to our visit it had been rainy every day, would recommend going sooner in the season or count on your luck).
Marie-Claude P — Google review
We had a magical 5 days ⛷️ on this gorgeous mountain ✨plenty of trails for all levels, well-maintained runs, with plenty of sunshine and the heaviest snowfall. The trails are well-marked with clear signage, and the gondolas and chairlifts make it easy to hop between trails and keep the momentum going. Whether you’re a beginner, intermediate, or advanced skier, there’s a perfect run for you. There are restaurants up the mountains too - special mention to Buna’s beef udon (absolute comfort in a bowl) and Popeye’s coffee on the Paradise trail - perfect motivation to ski down for me. A huge shoutout to Anthony, our instructor, who was patient, empowering, and made learning so much fun. What makes Nozawa extra special is that it’s owned by the city, not a corporate mega-ski chain, which gives it a unique charm and a welcoming, local feel. Can’t wait to be back!
Elaine ( — Google review
I've snowboarded all over the East coast of America, Switzerland, Korea, and this is by far the best snow I've been on. It's been amazing here. Added bonus, Snow Monkeys, Onsen, and great food.
John K — Google review
Wonderful ski resort! Traditional onsen town to compliment. Then on mountain food is unreal, all the soloists feel family owned and have incredible food. Didn’t get to ride the new gondola as it was always crowded but was still able to get around without too much crowds. The resort area is very unique and run by the city not corporate mega ski corps and it shows! I really hope this resort stays off the “passes” and keeps its charm.
Nick S — Google review
Nice little ski village for everyone. Ski slopes for experts and beginners alike. Village has many warm, onsen ryokans and traditional local food joints. Options are available for those who would like a drink or two.

Yu Road

Mentioned on
1 list
Scenic spot
Yu Road is a convenient and free moving walkway that links the hot spring village to the Hikage base area, serving as the primary ski slope in town during winter. Surprisingly, it remains operational in summer, offering access to skiing and snowboarding on the Zip Skyline and summer slopes. This lengthy travellator not only facilitates transportation but also provides an enjoyable activity for children. It's monitored for safety and allows easy transport of ski or snowboard equipment.
Very nice view at the bottom of YU road, Is quite a steep slope to walk up but once read the escalator can rest your feet and it will just bring you up. The moment you step out from the escalator is the ski school, rental place, service center, kids park, snow mobile pick up point, cafe and restaurant. It so convenient.
Raycher L — Google review
Moving escalator that gets you up to the other side of the ski slopes. Not difficult to find on foot, just follow the signs. My husband and I tried to drive here following google map directions and found ourselves navigating really narrow roads and there was nowhere to park. We ended up having to leave our car back at the hotel and walk here. Better to come on foot. Also due to the shape of the tunnel, watch your skis when using the escalator! Best of all it’s free.
KarenL — Google review
Thank goodness for this free travellator to bring people up to the ski area. Saves the climb up. A nice 2 stage escalator that is quite an engineering feat. There are staff and cameras monitoring the travellator to ensure everyone’s safety. No probs getting ski or snow board equipment on it. Come down near sun set and be rewarded with stunning views at the bottom of Yu road.
Andy — Google review
Well built infrastructure to go up to the ski area.

Sparena

Day-use onsen
Gym
Spa
Sparena is a popular hot spring destination in Nozawa Onsen, offering a relaxing experience for visitors. The facility provides free parking and features a reasonably priced hot spring pool. Additionally, there are spacious lounges and the option to rent swimsuits. Families can enjoy the 25 outdoor pool during the summer, with ample parking available even on weekdays. Visitors are required to remove their shoes upon entering the building and can rent swimsuits for a fee.
The indoor changing room has a anti slip rubber mat that is painful to walk on barefooted. The indoor changing room's anti-slip rubber mat, though effective, can be a bit uncomfortable barefooted. Visiting on a weekday was a win – almost empty pools made it especially enjoyable for the kids. The hot pool added warmth as the night got colder. The outdoor onsen, with its great view, was an additional highlight.
Mama Y — Google review
Take your lift pass to get a discount! Quite expensive for what you get...maybe better value in the summer when outdoors is open too. Only choice really if with kids as (as a visitor) the village onsens would be too hot for the kids...so it is better than nothing so we could all have an onsen together.
J C — Google review
The nice outdoor pool is basically useless because it's closed for half of summer . Opens for 6 weeks and then shuts, what is the point of having a pool that's closed for half of the summer? Then for some reason there is a semi-enclosed pool that is 36c...in summer, what on earth is the point of having a pool that hot, don't people swim to cool off? Make both pools a bit cooler and use the money you will save on heating to stay open longer?
A M — Google review
Very warm hot springs, very kind service. The floor inside is very rough so I'd recommend bringing flip flops. They rent their swimsuits but it's Japanese sizes so their largest is not that large at all.
Pri B — Google review
Fantastic option for families in the summer. Ample parking, not crowded at all during the weekdays, and the 25° outdoor pool is a respite from the summer heat. When you enter the building, take your shoes off and put them in a locker. Bring your shoe locker key to the front desk when you pay and they will keep it for you. Adults (junior high school and above ¥700, children ¥500). They will then hand you a locker key. Lost locker keys will be charged ¥3000. Bathing suit rentals are ¥300 with a ¥1000 deposit that is returned when the bathing suit is returned. The changing room has bathing facilities with soaps, showers to wash off after the pool, and even a free swimsuit drier which works much like a salad spinner except for bathing suits. There is a restaurant connected to the pool area -- just need to dry off before heading in to eat. A nice option for those that want to stay the whole day. Unusual for Japan: no swim cap needed, diapered children can swim as long as they use a waterproof cover, and we even saw a young shirtless with several large tattoos, so maybe a tattoo-friendly facility?!? Cafeteria takes only cash or Paypay. Summer hours (8/1-8/27) are 9:00-20:30.
Al L — Google review
Great onsen if you’re shy to get naked. Swimsuit allowed in 2 of the baths. Good food in the cafeteria.
Viraf P — Google review
Most of Nozawa Onsen's public baths follow the traditional style that most tourists wouldn't be used to. SPArena follows the more modern style found in other cities, with a dedicated bathing area. There are also mixed bath areas where a bathing suit is required.
Kaze M — Google review
Outdoor pool watching the snow was a refreshing temperature! Fun to hang with your entire group despite gender in swimsuits. Cafeteria looked good but we went at an off time. Entry was 700 jpy per person - so reasonable!

I went around 9 a.m. on a weekday, and I passed by two customers before me, so I had the place to myself. I was able to enjoy the hot springs in a temperature range that was easier to enter than other public baths. (Maybe the previous customer cooled it down...) As always, all the outdoor baths were clean and comfortable to use. (Translated by Google) Bathed on May 1, 2025. Yokochi no Yu. I visited Nozawa Onsen while visiting the public baths. Like other outdoor baths, it was very piping hot, but I managed to get it in without adding more water. It's been a year since I've been to an outdoor bath at Nozawa Onsen, but the moment I soaked it up to my shoulders, “Ah, I came to Nozawa Onsen.” I was able to realize that. It's strange to me that even though I don't like hot baths, Nozawa Onsen is my favorite, but I think it's such a special place. The building feels old, but it's well maintained so it doesn't bother me. I have nothing but gratitude to the people in the area who are taking care of it. Syokudo and Teishoku restaurant
Billiken Shokudo is a beloved eatery in Nozawa onsen, situated near Asagama onsen in the old district of town. The restaurant offers a variety of homemade pizzas and large pasta dishes, along with an extensive side dish menu featuring must-try options like Sui-gyoza and cob salad. With comfortable booth tables and a small tatami seating area, including 'hori-gotatsu' for leg space under the table, it provides a cozy dining experience.
Great place, we are there twice in 5 days. I had the pork dumplings, the yakiniku, the miso ramen, the ham pizza - everything was tasty and generously served. The shop is 5 min away from the Main Street, so usually not too busy, we never had to wait to be seated. The vibe is peaceful and homely, with both western and tatami tables, and the restaurant cat lying on the counter. Truly a nice place, 10/10 would recommend.

came here as I wanted to see the cats and we actually saw 3 🥺 I asked the owners and they said they have 5 in total!! I really enjoyed the ramen too and we had drinks too, I would recommend:)

Who would have thought you can order pizza at a traditional Japanese restaurant in a traditional Japanese onsen town. Well, the pizza is actually very, very good - thin crusty base with very stretchy tasty cheese. The ramen, katsu curry are also very delicious with great depth of flavour. However, the pizza is still the highlight... We wanted to try more dishes and hence we have already re-booked to go back in 2 days time to try the other pizzas.

Very comfortable sitting place, good service they provide kids cutlery for each dishes we need to share with kids. Decent food

Cosy, traditional Japanese restaurant. There is a mix of Japanese and Western style table seating. The menu is also a mix of Japanese and Western food. Ordering is done through a tablet at the table in Japanese or English. Cash or card payment okay.
Judy O — Google review
It is a nice restaurant with good service. The food is not bad, worth a good value of money and it came fast. There is an English menu there. It is good for families. Ordered the pizza, chicken, salad. Overall, it is great!
Eric T — Google review
A lovely little a-la-carte restaurant. The interior is split into an "old pub" style area with tables and a bar, and a small traditional Japanese area for customers to sit on tatami mats. A docile cat lounges at the bar that customers are free to pat. Food is ordered from an iPad (English and Japanese) and service is efficient. Food is brought out as it is ready. This restaurant offers rice/curry dishes, noodle dishes, sides (including salads and fried foods), pizza, drinks, and dessert. Vegetarian options are also available.

Restaurant
Genki Burger is a compact and relaxed eatery that offers a unique blend of Japanese-Australian fusion burgers, along with various side dishes. The burgers are exceptionally tasty and generously portioned, albeit on the expensive side. The fries have a slightly high salt content but are enjoyable nonetheless. The drink selection is extensive, with the standout being their must-try lemonade. The pleasant staff member single-handedly prepares the food, adding to the cozy atmosphere of this small yet lively establishment.
We had the Umami San burger, 10/10. It was delicious with lots of flavor. The fire fries weren’t anything special. The place is real small but good service
Chloe — Google review
If you're craving a standard burger along with all the grease and carbs and fat (I mean all of this in a good/ delicious way), then this place is for you. I can see its appeal after a day on the slopes and you just want to satisfy that carb craving. For a burger, it's pretty solidly average. But for a burger on the mountain after a solid day of skiing, it's great. Food takes a while after ordering since they cook the burger fresh. Shop is tiny with a few seats so it might be better to order takeout. Service is great and the guys who run the shop are super friendly.
Christina N — Google review
If you are a little sick of Japanese food, you should really try out this burger place ! The beef patty was amazingly good. I had the YAMABIKO B (DELUXE). Also you need to try the fries. No reservation allow and the place is very small so limited seats.
Andy L — Google review
Nice burger joint jn nozawa. Stumbled across it as we needed something about quick. Guys were prompt in service and atmosphere cosy. Warm and inviting. Burgers pretty good as well. Better than i had expected and worth the rating. We had the yami A and yami B.
Thai T — Google review
We came here for dinner tonight and this place did not disappoint. We ordered the one Genki and Abunai each and they were delicious in their own way with very different flavors. We also ordered a original Loaded Fries and they were delicious and quite filling. The wait time is what it is because these burgers are cooked to order so we were happy to wait. The place is cozy, but there is enough seating and the dinner crowd quickly filled the space. I thought the price was quite reasonable for the freshness and the quality. You get what you pay for. I recommend this for anyone looking for a top notch burger while they’re here and I would revisit again. Also, they have a hot sauce available to try that I haven’t seen before and it has a real kick which mixed nicely to the ketchup.
Jackson H — Google review
Nice delicious burger 🍔. We ordered no.1 and 4 from the menu list. No.4 is very delicious, it come with egg and nozawa veg pickles. Limited seat in the small shop, but the burger is delicious, worth the wait.
Ph C — Google review
Genki Burger is defined one of the best burger spot in Japan! We visit every time we are in the area—it never gets old. We love the loaded hot fries—served with chopped up jalapeños. I always go for the veggie burgers. They’re all delicious, but the lotus and fried tofu edge out the mushroom for me. Highly recommend this if you’re in the area.
Mary — Google review
Convenient little shop with a burger menu where each item is named after the pistes of the snow resort. It's nothing amazing, the burgers rely on sauce to be tasty, so when no sauce is used it's really quite average. The staff are helpful and attentive, it's not a bad restaurant, it has a comfy sort of feel.

Haus St. Anton is a charming European-style hotel located in the heart of Nozawa Onsen. The hotel features a cozy cafe known for its specialty oyaki and homemade jams, which are also used at Genki Burger. Guests can enjoy hot breakfasts with freshly squeezed juices before hitting the slopes, while the dinner menu offers a diverse fusion of Japanese, Chinese, French, and Italian cuisine.
Absolutely worth it. The steam buns are amazing, many options and several vego. AllPress coffee, great staff, I’ll be back again over the week we are here. We had Apple and Cinnamon bun, and the Red Bean Bun. Soooo good. Apple one is like a sweet apple pie. For the buns, if you are paying by credit card, pay inside (and order your coffee) and then go out to collect your buns.

Phenomenal restaurant and hotel in the middle of Nozawa. Their unique dinner course of fusion dishes using local ingredients is a must try. Friendly staff and cozy interior. Very popular, so advance reservation is required. Their cafe on the 1st floor offers great coffee, gelato and light meals as well.

Impeccable local style local at the heart of Nozawa Onsen. The hotel comes with its private onsen with bath area for guests to book 1 hour per day per room, which gives us some privacy compare to public onsen. Thy served daily breakfast with amazing home made jam with nozawa spring water. Staff were super friendly and accommodating, look for Misa the main manager. The hotel also served a unique dinner menu, very curated and special. The parmesan risotto is a must! Price - okay Location - great Ambience - great Stafff - great Cleanliness - Great Those jam is a must buy!

Cute and cosy cafe attached to the hotel. Coffee is great, and they have the option of soy milk. The house made ice creams are incredible, with interesting Japanese inspired flavours (think Green tea choc chip, roasted sesame, purple sweet potato for example). Steamed buns available on the street and inside. Sells lots of special jams. Their mulled wine is a lovely treat after a day on the slopes.

Some of the best craft gelato I have ever had anywhere different flavors every day and the coffee is excellent they also sell homemade jams here and other goodies

Cute cafe on the Main Street in Nozawa Onsen. It is mostly tea, coffee, and small meals. They do have a few warm wines and snacks. I tried the Ginger wine and the Ringo bun. Both were tasty and nice after being in the cold all day! The ginger wine wasn't too sweet - which is my preference! This shop also has more open hours than many of the surrounding shops, which makes it a great choice if you're looking for somewhere mid afternoon.

Very nice modern cafe which specialises in jam made from local produce. There are not a lot of tables but patrons come and go pretty quickly if you are prepared to wait a little. They have a good selection of gelatos and nice expresso coffees. The other highlight is the steam bun store just outside the shop (definitely a must try after a hard day skiing)

My friends and I planned to go to nozawa onsen to snowboard but unfortunately I had an injury and i couldn’t join them, instead I walked around and took a few photos. Saw this nearby the ski resort entrance, i was hesitant at first because it seems all customers are foreigners. But i did go and it was nice. It’s been a long time since I spoke english and it was rough 😂🥲 the staff or owner is a foreigner but can speak Japanese so 日本人でも大丈夫だよ🙆‍♀️ they offer craft beer and a lot of snacks too.

We have been customers of The Craft Room since we began visiting Nozawa Onsen. This is our favorite lunch spot after hitting the slopes. The restaurant is located right near the gondola, which is extremely convenient. When there is snow, you can ski up! My go-to items are the brekkie bagel and chicken pesto panini. If you’re in the area, spot by! We enjoy coming here year after year! Thank you all—great staff!

I haven't been in ski resorts for a decade and I was so surprised and happy that there is a western place like this! You will be craving for this kind of tasty food after skiing with a pint of beer! Chicken wing was good but the taste was a bit strong. I don't like the high chair as I'm not tall enough. There is only one table seat with the normal chair.
Minami Y — Google review
Update: Came back a few weeks later, and the management really did seem to take my feedback to heart because it seemed better ventilated this time and not as stuffy, even with a crowd of people. Good work! Updating to 5 stars! :) Original review: A fun spot to grab a drink or coffee right at the foot of the gondola. The hot chocolate I had was exactly what I wanted after skiing all day. When we went, it was very crowded, which made it pretty stuffy, so ventilation could be improved. But all in all, the drinks were good and the staff was very nice and spoke English.
Brittany — Google review
I may be biased due to my love for beer, but they had the local Joy Juice on tap...so I was there more than I should. Food was good, staff were cool and there was chill music. Luckily the weather wasn't ideal for skiing the few days in Feb we were there, so the time I spent imbibing was not at the expense of deep powder!

Nestled within the charming Akari House rental apartments, Akari House Swiss Bakery is a delightful spot that brings a taste of Switzerland to Nozawa Onsen. Here, you’ll find Stephan, a skilled Swiss baker who crafts an enticing array of pastries, quiches, cakes, and breads throughout the day. The cozy atmosphere invites guests to savor these treats on-site or take them away.
We ate here be had calzones, pretzels, and took some sweets home, and also ordered pizza another day. All the food is absolutely divine, coffee was awesome, as an Aussie in Japan sometimes finding a good coffee can be difficult. The location is lovely and close to many accommodation and just down from a ski lift. The inside is set up so cute, but the real treasure are the treats on display! The delivered pizza, calzones, pretzels, and baked sweets were all 5/5 excellent and delicious. Thanks Akari, we will be back next time.

Incredible service, location and hosts. Gab (the owner) assisted us immensely when our kids got sick and was so helpful when we needed to get to hospital. Location is so convenient to both the snow and the rest of town. Don’t get me started on the food options. So so great!

Sobadokoro Daimon is a renowned historic soba restaurant that has been serving customers since 1926. With around 20 seats, this establishment offers an authentic dining experience. The soba noodles are made using Nozawa's pristine water, resulting in exceptional flavor and texture that pairs perfectly with the soup. Visitors can enjoy cold soba noodles after indulging in the nearby hot springs, creating a refreshing contrast.
Step no further for sensational soba. My partner followed his nose to the restaurant after eating here previously, but not remembering what it was called and for good reason. The soba is perfectly chewy and you can taste the nutty, tangy buckwheat. My partner had the pork soba soup and I had the wild vegetables soba soup. Will definitely come back to try the cold options with dipping sauce and tempura. Complimentary yea on arrival was strong and hot and the staff extremely hospitable and accomodating of our rudimentary Japanese.

Super good quality soda noodles and that delicious soup with pork or prawn tempura! Must try. You can’t make reservation and they have limited dining hours. So please go early !

Really good soba noodles! Noodles had great texture, very smooth, good amount of bounce! Service was nice and warm atmosphere, they gave us a nice warm tea at the start too
Jonjonyew — Google review
It was worth the hour in line. I ordered the grated Japanese yam cold soba, regular size. The egg and yam, with the added wasabi dipping sauce was a whole new experience. It coated the soba and made it so silky. I couldn’t get enough of it! I’m not a big eater but I ended up ordering a second soba because it was so good! And also wanted to try the hot soba 😋 got the shrimp tempera and it just hit the spot. Warmed me up so satisfyingly. I did end up preferring the cold soba dish more because the texture of the noodle and it held together better. Very friendly people and the order came quickly. They open at 5:30 - 8pm for dinner and I didn’t get their lunch hours.

This place get pretty busy at night. On a cold night, waiting outside for a long time was not something I desired. We did go back during lunch and they weren’t as busy. Their soba was good and and portion is quite generous. Everything is reasonably priced.

Simple fuss free meal here for days when I want a light meal. Love the cold soba noodles and the tempura batter was light. Ordered the tororo to dip the cold soba in and it gave a slimy silky eggy texture which was interesting (in a good way!).

Really enjoyed the tempura soba and even more so the cold soba. I thought that was very unique to dip the soba noodles into the broth then eat them. Mexican restaurant
Arriving for an early dinner without a reservation, we were fortunate to secure a table in the fully booked Juntos Mexican Restaurant & Bar. However, we were informed that we had to vacate before 6 PM. Hastily ordering, we opted for the chicken rice bowl and nachos. The chicken, albeit flavorsome, was somewhat dry and lacked overall taste. Although a return visit is likely, next time we would choose an alternative dish.
One of the best burritos I’ve had...period. The pulled pork was delicious and the homemade salsa was a perfect addition. The nachos were on a planet of their own. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend trying this place when staying at Nozawaonsen.
Justin S — Google review
This was ok...... staff are amazing, but in my opinion the rating is all about the taste and value for money. If you want a healthy meal this is probably for you. If you want Mexican with lots of flavour, cheese and value for money, then probably not. Very expensive for something that is relatively unseasoned. Lovely lovely staff, people and environment but food wasn't super yummy and too expensive for what it is. Not sure if my written review reflects my rating but it isn't worth more then 50% in my opinion, sorry.
Sianan P — Google review
Was the third place we tried that said it was open and thank god it was open! We were hungry after snowboarding all day and we were full at the end. We shared a large burrito bowl, a taco and some jalapeño poppers. The sauce was a bit more marinara tasting than Mexican and overall had very western undertones. It lacked Mexican spice and we were charged 200yen for jalepenos on our tacos (there were 5 slices in total). The food came so quick and was for sure pre-made and then microwaved (no hate). Overall it was okay but I wish I let my stomach not get the better of me and had have had more of a look around.

Came here for early dinner with no reservation and we were lucky enough to get a table even though the restaurant was fully booked but we were told to be out before 6. We had to quickly order and I got the chicken rice bowl as well as the nachos. The chicken was yummy although quite dry and I couldn't really taste much flavour overall. I would come back but I would probably order something else. We also got the burrito which was much more worth the price as the serving size is quite large! Staff were friendly and service was great! Lovely ambiance as well despite the restaurant being quite small.

Delicious food and GREAT jalapeño margaritas. I was grateful that all the food was labeled with gf/v for my gluten allergies and being a vegetarian. Such a cute little spot - wish it was a bit bigger because it’s just that great! The staff was super genki and kind even though we had a big group. They care about covid protocols and that made us feel safe. Will hopefully be back!

Nice cozy little Mexican. Good atmosphere, close to town. Its a small place so probably best to book, long tables available for groups. Tastey tacos, corn an guac :) would go again!
Leanne A — Google review
Food wasn't as good as what we make at home on a weeknight, but a lot more expensive. We ordered large portions of nachos and rice bowls, but they didn't look or feel bigger than our friend's regular. Mould on the wall behind me which I only noticed after the food had already arrived. Waiters we're nice but it was far too expensive for the quality of food.

Rest house Yamabiko is a prominent dining establishment in the Nozawaonsen Ski Resort, conveniently situated near the Nagasaka gondola top station. It offers an extensive and delectable array of food and beverages, as expected in a bustling ski resort setting. This eatery serves as an ideal venue to indulge in a satisfying curry and beer after exerting oneself on the Kenashi slopes. Particularly noteworthy is their superb vegetable curry (#7 if memory serves), which is truly exceptional.
Quite literally the best food I have ever had on a mountain. One plate of melt in your mouth steak, 3 plates of ramen, a sake, and a lemonade all for just 30 pounds!

First time trying nozawana on top of pizza and omg it works so well definitely recommend it!!!

I haven’t tried everything on the menu here, but I tend to stick with my favorites—and honestly, they never disappoint. Every visit leaves me with a smile. The hearty Nozawana dish with pork and cheese hits the spot, especially after a few hours out in the snow. It's warm, comforting, and full of flavor. The French Toast? Absolute perfection. Light, fluffy, and just the right amount of indulgent—it’s almost too good to share (Don’t!). Pro tip: get there early. This place fills up fast, and for good reason.

The staff or administration does absolutely nothing against the seat-saving culture that plagues this place. I had a plate of food purchased and walked around for 20 minutes like an idiot looking for a table. Tables that I could have sat down to eat my food were being "reserved" by other people who haven't even ordered food yet. So you'll find many tables full of ski gear but otherwise vacant. Customers already with food should have priority, not the other way around. I ended up putting away my plate of UNTOUCHED food on the dishwashing racks.

Delicious garlic rice and curry dishes. Plus, some great views of the slopes.
Kristin P — Google review
Great cheap place for food on the slope. Does get quite packed around 12:30
Tristan M — Google review
One of the “flagship” eateries in Nozawaonsen Ski Resort, located nearby Nagasaka gondola top station. Tasty, broad selection of food and drinks, crowded as expected on a ski resort.
Eugene F — Google review
This place just keeps getting better over the years. With the new gondola station, the first floor has been converted to a large seating area and pizza is served on the first floor while everything else is available on the second floor. Seating used to be a problem during lunch time but with expanded seating it’s much better now. The food is delicious but if you had to try one thing, go for the garlic steak rice. It’s the most popular item for good reason.

狸 tanuki cafe & dining

Cafe
Located in a museum, 狸 tanuki cafe & dining offers a variety of Japan Asian fusion meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The second floor of the museum features rotating exhibits and a stained-glass window depicting the town's namesake nozawana vegetable, while the third floor houses a replica of giant lanterns used in the annual Dosojin Fire Festival. Visitors can also enjoy live music performances at this cozy spot.
I had such a great time at Tanuki Café and Dining in Nozawa Onsen! The food was amazing—everything was super fresh and full of flavor. The Eggs Benedict with crispy potatoes was perfection, and the scrambled eggs on sourdough with those juicy tomatoes were just what I needed. The coffee was also spot on—smooth, creamy, and with some beautiful latte art. Definitely one of the best lattes I’ve had in a while! The vibe of the place is really cozy and chill, perfect for relaxing after being out in the snow. And the staff? So friendly and welcoming—they made the whole experience even better. If you’re in Nozawa Onsen, I’d 100% recommend stopping by. Great food, great coffee, and an all-around awesome experience!

Why is American bacon so much better than everywhere else? American bacon is crispy, smoky, sweet, fatty. What’s served elsewhere is usually lean, chewy, pink; more ham than bacon. It misses that, that crunch of salt and sugar that defined the BLT in the first place. Bacon should be black and crispy and shatter the second you bite into it. The BLT came from America, you know, if you don’t believe me you can look it up. Don’t sell me a BLT and give me a ham sandwich.

Nice bread! Love the french toast with apple jam! Great coffee too. Good service by crew. We had it for breakfast before skiing. Opens early which is great.
Wilking L — Google review
We went there twice to give it a chance. First time, no good. Overpriced eggs Benedict that was pretty much just egg, potato and soggy greens. No interesting flavour. Second time we got breakfast sandwiches because my partner liked it last time. These tasted nothing like what he had days prior. Once again, barely any flavour. Just egg. Lots of egg. Not worth the price point. Better off going elsewhere if I’m being honest. Even for coffee. It’s just way too overpriced for what they offer.

Came here for dinner. They only have set menus in the evening which is a shame but i can understand. I was hoping it be good but the meals were so so. Portions small for the price but cant fault their service. Do have a gripe that half of their menu items costed extra to order above the set menu price.

We sat by the window at the entrance. It’s better if you like a good view of people passing by the Village. The atmosphere was good and staff are very friendly and nice. Unfortunately when we were there, they only served pastries and drinks. I had matcha latte, oat cookies (tastes great), yuzu cheese cake (so-so).

Great breakfast, very yummy hot chocolate. Good selection of breakfast option and they open early. One of the cafe that you can find foreigner is the staff and can understand English. The souvenirs stall is quite cute too can shop and get something.
Raycher L — Google review
The food and service were alright, but the price was way higher than what they offered. The cheapest option was 4,800yen for 1 starter and 1 main plate. Reserved the place for 2 in advance and couldn't see dinner (official) menu due to website error, so I could only see menu posted by other people, which is definitely NOT what they have for dinner. Once I got there and saw the menu, either I had to pay 4,800yen at least or pay the cancellation fees for 1,000yen per person. Well... So we stayed. What I got: - The free snack was a palm-sized bowl of Edamame (Japanese green beans) - The starter was a salmon cucumber with cream to eat with crackers - priced 1,800yen in receipt - The main was <10cm beef shortribs, which tastes like belly than shortribs :) - And one small bowl of rice was served for TWO people, not separately I'd be happy to pay MAX 3000yen for that. All staff were able to speak English, good manners, nice atmosphere and the food was alright. To restaurant: I'd love it if more options were available to choose from, fix the online menu and better pricing for what you are offering. :)

Shinshu-Matsumoto Airport is the only airport in Nagano Prefecture, surrounded by rich nature and offering a great place for outdoor activities like walking, running, and cycling. It features a BBQ site, golf court, and vast flower garden. The compact airport provides souvenirs and dining options. Visitors can enjoy watching colorful planes while experiencing friendly staff and an easy check-in process.
Shinshu Matsumoto Airport is located in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture. It is known as the highest airport in Japan and the only airport in Japan located in an inland prefecture. The airport building has three floors: the first floor is the ticket hall and arrival hall, the second floor is the departure hall and boarding waiting area, and the third floor is the shuttle bus deck.

(Translated by Google) I stopped by while test driving a car. I applied for a test drive that I could borrow for a few days, and I came here in a test drive car. The parking lot closest to the airport was full, and even though it was a weekday, there were quite a few people using it. I was able to park in the transit plaza right next to it. From here, it's just a 2-3 minute walk to the airport building. There is a memorial tree planted on the way, and a paper airplane-shaped plate made of iron is on it. Depending on how you look at it, the memorial tree looks like Godzilla. Please see the photo. There are souvenir shops and restaurants in the airport, so if you are in the area, it's a good idea to stop by here. There is a Yamabiko Dome and a park around the airport, and it must be very lively when events are held. If you go around to the other side of the airport, you will be able to see the runway from the line of sight. You can also take impressive photos of the planes. If I have the chance next time, I would like to take a leisurely walk on the other side as well. I didn't have much time this time, so I went out to the viewing deck and took photos of the planes. However, suddenly, there was an announcement that the plane was cancelled... I remember someone on the deck asking me again if the announcement was a cancellation and looking very surprised. After the announcement, passengers who had boarded the plane started to disembark, and I thought, this must be a big problem. I think I was there for about 30 minutes net, but since I had to go on to my next appointment, I picked up a tourist guidebook displayed next to the information counter on the first floor and left the airport. If I had the time, I'd like to experience traveling around Japan by connecting airports in other parts of the country.

(Translated by Google) I used Shinshu Matsumoto Airport in Matsumoto City. While it's compact for a regional airport, the interior is clean, boarding procedures were smooth, and it left an impression of being safe and secure. The parking lot is located in front of the terminal, and its free use is a major attraction. However, depending on the time of day, the front parking lot can be full, in which case you'll need to park in the second parking lot, which is a little further away. Although it's within walking distance, I recommend arriving with plenty of time to avoid being late for your boarding time. The official website also has a live camera that shows the parking lot's congestion status, so it's a good idea to check before you depart. The airport has shops and restaurants, and is stocked with Shinshu local specialties and souvenirs, so you can enjoy a relaxing time before and after your flight. I felt it was a user-friendly and friendly airport, perfect as a base for tourism and business.

(Translated by Google) I used Matsumoto Airport (Shinshu Matsumoto Airport) for a business trip. It's the only airport in Nagano Prefecture, but currently only operated by FDA (Fuji Dream Airlines). It only operates a few routes, such as New Chitose, Kobe, and Fukuoka, and the number of flights is extremely limited, with only one or two round trips per day. It's so inconvenient that I honestly feel like it's on the verge of being shut down. It seems to have a history of being saved by the Shizuoka FDA, but I worry about how long it will last if things continue like this. Perhaps due to the low number of passengers, the terminal was quiet, and there seemed to be few souvenir shops. That said, this airport does have its good points. It's known as the airport with the highest altitude in Japan, and the views from the observation deck are outstanding. The view of planes taking off and landing against the backdrop of the Northern Alps is particularly spectacular during snowy season. The airport's compact size makes it easy to navigate and navigate, which is a plus. And best of all, free parking is a real bonus. However, because the airport is far from Matsumoto city, access to Matsumoto Station and other areas requires a bus, which takes time, so it's undeniably inconvenient. While the views may be irresistible for airplane enthusiasts, I felt it was a tough choice for travelers prioritizing business or convenience.

(Translated by Google) It's a small regional airport. Basically only FDA serves the airport, but JAL sometimes operates seasonal flights. FDA flies to Sapporo, Kobe, and Fukuoka, while JAL's seasonal flights seem to be to Itami. There are no flights to Tokyo, perhaps because the distance is too short for a plane. There is a limousine bus to Matsumoto Station, but it takes about 40 minutes.
