Akakura Kanko Resort

Mentioned on
12 lists
Ski resort
Nestled in the picturesque setting of Mount Myōkō, Akakura Kanko Resort is one of the oldest ski resorts globally and offers a range of experiences for skiers of all levels. The resort features beginner-friendly slopes, challenging ungroomed courses for expert skiers, and a snow park. The iconic Akakura Kanko Hotel provides a luxurious ski-in, ski-out experience with its vibrant red roofs and proximity to the slopes.
Akakura Kanko Hotel is a nice place to stop for a cup of coffee, lunch or just for the views while skiing at the Akakura/Myoko slopes. Easy access (ski in & out). Excellent food and deserts to die for.
Katarina G — Google review
Literally waited in the lift ticket queue for 1hour yesterday! (Monday From 9:45am to 10:45) Only one person taking payment, but 2 staff at ticket counter. Ridiculous. If you’re buying 1-3day tickets use the QR code advance payment option and skip the line up, but more online options need to be made available. We only wanted a 4 hour ticket and therefore had to line up. Resort itself was fine, no lift queues.
Terry T — Google review
Awesome snow sports area, tons of ungroomed runs. Will definitely be back.
E Z — Google review
A variety of runs. Awesome off piste area to explore and have fun in deep powder. There is also a kebab shop at bottom of Hotel 2 chair lift. Love the kebab there!
DaHuZi J — Google review
The better side of the Akakura resort with more challenging runs, better terrains and tree skiing, enough to keep you entertained for 2 to 3 days. However, despite Covid, the place gets very crowded over the weekend with long queue to get the lift tickets and much longer queue to get on the Gondola. There are less freshies to be found as compared to other resorts (despite no presence of foreign tourists) and hence, I will avoid this place once international travel is allowed. To get here, take train from Tokyo to Nagano station, and from there to Myokokogen station and get the hotel/ryokan to pick you up from the station. The Kanko resort is about 5mins walk to Akakura Onsen. There are also plenty of ski in ski out accommodations in this area.
Emma T — Google review
Great mountain but the queue to buy tickets in the morning is ridiculous. Other large resorts have already gone online, so no wait needed for pre-bought tickets, while Akakura is still paper based. This wastes 30 min of a ski day… for which we still pay for tickets. Please please put in automated gates and online purchase.
Andrew D — Google review
Very nice hotel at Myoko Kogen ski resort. And the food that they serve is spectacular as well. We are the only foreign guests when we are there and the ski is not yet open for another week even though it is snowing everyday already.

Bus too here . Great ski runs . Many chair lift connected to Akakura onsen ski area . Lots restaurants .

Ikenotaira ALPEN BLICK Ski Resort is part of the Myoko Kogen area, which includes five resorts. It offers 15 courses suitable for beginners and intermediates, along with two short advanced runs. The resort features a Wide, Long Run slope for skiers to enjoy ample space, a Mavericks Park with jumps and rails for thrill-seekers, and a Kids Garden equipped with a conveyor belt for easy sledding.
Recently stayed here for 3 nights, and had the best time. Service was amazing from the start, we missed our train there and needed to change our shuttle bus pick up time, which they were so lovely about and were quick to respond and arrange via email (we didn’t have a working phone line to call). Everyone at the resort was lovely and friendly, from the beautiful front desk staff to the ski rentals. The ski slopes lead directly down to the resort entrance, which made popping in and out of the hotel (for the toilet, to eat, for a rest) very convenient, especially as newbie skiers. The snow fields were also very well maintained, regularly being flattened out for walking etc. We looked forward to breakfast and dinner every day (buffet style), for dinner there were chefs frying fresh tempura/karaage in front of you, and personal hotpot if you wish, which were lovely options after a long cold day in the snow. Even at the very end, we were delivered back to the station via shuttle, where our lovely driver also alighted to make sure we didn’t struggle with getting train tickets back. We had the best time at Alpen Blick, and would absolutely recommend this place to others! Would love to come back :)
Brittany G — Google review
Great place to ski for beginner and intermediate skiers/boarders. Decent length of runs nice powder, uncrowded slopes.
Kyle A — Google review
Nice ski and snowboard resort for the beginners! Specially for the snowscoot riders.
Ml7177 — Google review
Fantastic choice for beginner and low intermediate skiers with its wide placid groomers and long runs. Beautiful views. Lifts reasonably fast. Not a lot of variety, but good for one, possibly two day.
Ian B — Google review
Can be a bit tricky to get to with the local bus system, but a decent mix of easy slopes for beginners and some more intricate forest routes and jumps for more advanced skiers and snowboarders. Very friendly and efficient staff!
N L — Google review
The resort itself is ok. Unfortunately I am in a period of not too much snow. Off piste, tree run is not quite good at the moment. This place supposed to be packed with snow normally. The design of resort is fine. Enough beginners to intermediate runs for a day or two. Have a nice park for park players. Some runs very good for ground tricks. Food in restaurant is fine and reasonably priced. Remember to bring a ticket/ lift pass holder because it is not using electronic pass. It is old fashioned ticket.
Will W — Google review
Awesome Japanese feel! Hardly any lift lines. Great & reasonably priced restaurants. Great slopes for beginner and intermediate skiers. Brilliant terrain park. In-bounds tree runs for intermediates to advanced. Make sure you bring cash. No ATM and ticket office and restaurants don't take card.
Scott T — Google review
Ski resourt itself quite tiny, however there are not bad back-country options here, also very good dinner option with great local craft beer

Beautiful area of Northeast Japan, with scenic mountains and also low areas that are calming and a great getaway, only two hours away from bustling Tokyo.
Benson C — Google review
Myoko village is a pretty little place with a few cafes and restaurants. Easy access to ski slopes - walking distance to Akakura Onsen lifts and not too far to Akakura Kanko ( walk or shuttle).
Katarina G — Google review
This myoko kogen is a great set of ski resorts. The snow was metres deep, the bars and food shops are good Great time to be visiting this area as the crowds have not yet found this great area.
David B — Google review
Myoko Kogen has some of Japan’s best back country. Easy living and no crowds. The reasons why I go back every year. 2019 March
Nich — Google review
Had a great time in Myoko Kogen. It's getting pretty busy there but still plenty of snow around if you know where to look.
Toby M — Google review
We're hoping to plan a trip here in late November, do you think there will be enough snow at that time??
Mike P — Google review

Nestled in the stunning Myoko Kogen region, Myoko Suginohara Ski Resort is a winter wonderland that caters to skiers of all skill levels. With its well-groomed slopes and a dedicated snow park, it’s perfect for families and beginners alike. The resort boasts breathtaking views of distant Mount Fuji, adding to the picturesque experience.
We had two amazing days skiing here. Long runs and brilliant snow. Lift pass Q only busy at 9 when lots of people arrive and that’s the only time we queued. Once people are on the mountain there are no real queues ( this was mid week ). Great for all levels ( you can get your pass on line also which means no Q, scan you bar code, collect pass and off you go (WAmazing)).Usual places to grab lunch on the mountain or at the base
Martin W — Google review
Great ski resort, pretty icy conditions in the middle of March. Very empty on a weekday. The 8.5km ride from top to bottom is a good leg workout! Our instructor was a pro and very helpful to improve!
Akira — Google review
Love the nice long runs! Our favourite in the area so far, we were lucky to have powder snow for 3 days. Fantastic slopes for all levels. For snowboarders we suggest to avoid going on the way to the bottom as it gets very flat some walking is required before getting to the bottom lift to bring u up to the main chair lifts.
J ( — Google review
My favorite resort! I tried many of the Nagan area ski resorts and Suginohara is the one that I keep coming back to the most. Tree skiing is amazing, a lot of snow, long wide slopes to practice, and not crowded:)
Mindaugas T — Google review
Came here on a big powder day! It was powder everywhere even on a the groomed slopes. Most of the chairlifts were fast and working. Will come again!
Terence T — Google review
Long groomed runs were such a pleasure to ski down! The resort is big, so there were barely queues once we got onto the mountain. My favorite resort in Myoko - chairlifts moved pretty fast when there wasn’t wind and there was plenty to choose from for beginners to advanced skiers. The chairlifts with bubbles were helpful on days where it was dumping.
Janel L — Google review
Probably my favorite resort. I have been skiing in Japan for 17 years. This resort is modern with fast quad lifts and the gondola. The snow park is possibly the widest run in Japan. Huge powder runs. A cute little village section with some good local food. The only downside is the access.. really need a car to get out here
Andrew H — Google review
Good runs for all ski or board abilities, great views of surrounding mountains/Mt Fuji on a clear day. The park is one of the best in the area despite a few kooky features. Lifts are all quick with a good gondola taking you 3km up mountain. Restaurant options are good but not many vegetarian options available. The 8.5km run is great fun and will burn the legs of all skiing or boarding abilities

Naena Falls

Waterfall
Nature & Parks
Naena Falls is a stunning 55-meter-high waterfall located in the Myoko-Togakushi Renzan National Park, just a short drive from Akakura Onsen Village. It's accessible year-round but is particularly beautiful in summer and autumn when the surrounding foliage bursts into vibrant colors. The waterfall, also known as the Earthquake Waterfall due to its thunderous crash, pours a massive volume of water down a basalt cliff into the Seki River.
Fun hike! The road is closed in the winter so we had to trek extra far. Several inches of fresh snow made the entire area extra beautiful.
Logan L — Google review
Naena Waterfall is powerful and impressive, surrounded by beautiful nature and easy walking trails. When I visited, it had just rained heavily, so the water was muddy and rushing fast instead of the usual clear blue. Even with the murky water, the sheer force and sound of the falls were incredible to experience. I’d love to come back on a sunny day to see it at its best.
Bina S — Google review
Beautiful falls and nice small walk until the spot!
Tokyo T — Google review
There has been a lot of rain so the volume of the water was incredible. A nice 500 metre walk beside the river in the bush. I can see why this is a top 100 waterfall.
Tina D — Google review
Definitely do the hike further in, after crossing back from the bridge
Hong A — Google review

(Translated by Google) This mountain is for intermediate climbers, but beginners can also climb it if they climb slowly. There's a waterfall and a great view. You'll want to be prepared for the chain sections. Don't forget your gloves. Many people hike Mt. Hiuchi and Mt. Hiuchi. This summer's heat is intense. It feels like a real battle against the heat. I was so excited to take a dip in the open-air bath on the way back that I walked. (Translated by Google) Starting from Tsubame Onsen Iwatoya (542), the concrete path is well maintained and the climb is gentle and easy. (630) We arrived at Akakura Onsen, a water source. (645) Heading towards the Komyo Falls entrance, there was an open-air bath. From here, the concrete path ends and the climb begins steeply. From Kita Jigokudani Junction (711), climb along the stream and then onto the steep climb known as Munetsuki Hachijo (746). (823) We arrived at Tengudo. There is a portable toilet area. This is a wide area, so most people were taking a rest. From here, it was mostly uphill, passing Kozenji Pond (858) and the wind hole (859) to the base of the lava dome. There was a long section requiring chains, but the footing was solid and we could climb without chains. From there, it was a steady climb up the rocky terrain. (1025) The summit of the South Peak (2,454m). The north side was covered in clouds, but the views were open everywhere else, with views of Mount Takatsuma, Mount Yake, and Mount Hiuchi. Descending from the northern peak (2445m) at 1100. It was an incredibly steep climb, and I realized it must be tough for anyone climbing from here. At 1221, I took a rest on a bench at the Chosukeike junction. From here, I headed towards Kurosawaike Pond. Just beyond there was a water source in the stream. The water was cold and delicious, and I stocked up on water for the night. I crossed the outer rim of the mountain, where there was a lot of bamboo grass making it difficult to walk, and after a short, steep climb up a chain section, I finally reached Okura Norikoshi at 1358. Everything around Mt. Myoko is really tough! At 1429, I reached Kurosawaike Hut. From here, it was another gentle climb to Chausuyama at 1513. I descended gently, and finally arrived at Takayaike Hut at 1537 after descending a rocky path. I realized how naive I was, imagining the marshlands of Oze. (Translated by Google) Mount Myoko, one of Japan's 100 most famous mountains, towers over Niigata and Nagano prefectures. Its elevation is 2,454 meters. While an entrance fee is required, the trail is well-maintained. First, follow the well-maintained boardwalk, then pass through a rocky forest, and you'll soon be over 2,000 meters. The open, pumice pine area, with the sound of the babbling river, is a soothing sight and sound, perfect for a digital detox. After passing Kurosawa Hut, the mountain is clearly formed by a long-ago eruption, and the rocky path continues. If you're not careful with your footing, you'll lose everything. lol The summit isn't particularly spacious, but the spectacular 360-degree views make it one of my personal favorites. Akakura Kanko Akakura Onsen ski areas in Myoko are well groomed, long and not crowded at all. And together with nearby Suginohara it’s a magical place to ski and snowboard too. The local food is exceptional.
Katarina G — Google review
The ski resort is connected to Akakura Kanko which I would suggest purchase combines two mountain tickets else you will fill it too small for one mountain alone. There's a big flat space in the middle of the mountain where the restaurants are.
Kenneth T — Google review
It's a quiet "one street" town and at the tail-end of the ski season it's even quieter, seemingly populated by more Australian ski instructors than locals or even tourists. Food choices are limited and did not pass muster for the more discerning taste buds. Ski slopes are definitely very comfortable for the absolute beginner. Runs are relatively short and combined with the leisurely lifts makes for a very relaxed ski experience. It has gorgeous views and with a little bit of investment this town could really light up.
George L — Google review
(Feb 2025, weekday) + There's a nice long easy slope that is slightly toward the harder side for practice purposes and enjoyment - Commuting between slopes is a complete nightmare. A lot of flat ground, a lot of struggling - A lot of lifts are closed. Not acceptable considering that the lift ticket is quite expensive (6000yen/adult/day; ~USD$39)
Sam — Google review
A lovely ski resort perfect for beginners and low intermediate skiers. Advantages include wide gentle slopes and a charming small town vibe. Disadvantages are the longish traverses between lifts, which are aging and slow.
Ian B — Google review
This place is heaven. Getting the best snow in all of Japan, maybe even all of the world. This is my go to when taking a snow trip away from home. When there is enough snow this place is a big open playground. With plenty of lifts and runs to suit all levels of skill. There is plenty of accommodation choices and not so many restaurants. This mountain is roughly a 6 hour drive away from Tokyo. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for an escape to the best snow possible. You need to visit during Jan and Feb for the best possible fresh powder available.
Chris C — Google review
One of the two historical ski slope located at the foot of Mt. Myoko. This gelande tends to be lower in altitude than the Kanko side but has nice runs in the trees and wide groomed slopes. The slopes are located wide along the mountain so there are quite a few flat traverse you need to do in order to get to one side to the other, but each slope tends to be pretty empty even on a Saturday. Nighter runs until 10PM but not included in the one day or the multi-day pass. Get the 1day passport or the nighter pass separately if you want to go long.

Udon noodle restaurant
Udon no fu is a small and cozy restaurant in Akakura Onsen, offering a fantastic dining experience. The squid ink udon is highly recommended, along with other small plates like negi toro and apple tempura. The portions are generous, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Run by a friendly elderly couple, this place offers delicious food with great service. English menus are available, making it accessible to international visitors.
Amazing experience. Tiny room with entire family serving and cooking. Delightful, warm service and delicious, authentic and inexpensive. And the squid udon! Wow! Never had anything like it. Don’t wear white! We wish we’d found it earlier than our last night as we would have gone again.
Susan L — Google review
Our best dinner in Akakura Onsen by far. This residential place is very small with only 3 tables so book early. The squid ink udon is fantastic and so are the rest of the small plates (negi toro & apple tempura is good). Slightly off the main street and it was dark and foggy when we walked there... a little scary!

This feast, would have to be one of the best restaurant experience our family has had while travelling in Japan. It felt like we were invited into their home for dinner. Absolutely lovely family owned restaurant. Thank you. Regards Jim san.

Delicious udon and other sides dishes including fried chicken, tempura apple and edamame. Highly recommend the fresh apple juice too. English menus are available. The atmosphere is cosy. Three shared tables to choose from. Run by a friendly husband and wife team. Great lunch location.

Portions are large and this is a place that needs booking unless you go early (before 630). Elderly couple run it and it has a cosy vibe. Good place to fill up well and will be back to try the other dishes. Tried the Kamzuri (fermented chilli paste) and had the regional flat wheat noodles.

Ponta and the ladies are running a beautiful restaurant here, and if you are in Myoko over winter you owe it to yourself to visit. The food is very varied and each dish is interesting, and they have Yebisu beer and delicious homemade umeshu alongside local sake. Prices are fair, so we eat and drink a lot. What more could you want.

We recently dined at this Japanese restaurant and were thoroughly impressed. The atmosphere is warm and authentically traditional. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the food was genuinely authentic and delicious, providing great value for the experience. I highly recommend . It worth the visit!

Amazing izakaya! Super friendly owners, excellent food, and good value for money. Really enjoyed my dinner here and a real gem in an area where there are very few places to eat. Recommend strongly!

A great family run Izakaya. I've studied in this region of Japan before and I totally recommend it if you are looking for an authentic local experience. You won't regret it.

Pontaro’s food and service was fantastic. Small local restaurant with great atmosphere. You have to try one of the local sake tasting sets. A must do when in the area. Oh, and it has been dumping deep pow all evening! Japow turns!!

Yakiniku restaurant
食道園 is a remarkable yakiniku restaurant located in Myoko, known for its traditional Japanese style and family-operated atmosphere. This establishment stands out for its commitment to providing an unforgettable dining experience by offering freshly grown vegetables from their own family farm. The owner, who is extremely hospitable, even went above and beyond by personally driving guests back to their hotel during busy taxi times.
Extremely delicious, reasonable price for this area. I had sirloin, rice and cabbage- this was purportedly sourced from the owners home/ hometown, and was so delicious I finished the entire serving that was meant to be shared. I will definitely be back. Please book ahead to avoid disappointment - you can get your hotel to reserve for you

We went to Myoko 🗻 at the peak of the winter ☃️ season and thank goodness we got our hotel 🏨 to make a reservation for us. Arrived on time ⏰ and was directed to our table immediately. Every table is pre-booked 🎟️ and if you are late, they will give up your slot. While eating so many people 👨🏼‍🦱🧔🏽‍♂️👱‍♀️👩🏼‍🦰came in to check if they could spare a table and they were all turned away. 🚷 This is a small Japanese Yakiniku BBQ restaurant. They have this mini hot 🔥 grill in the middle of the table and you just have to order the meat 🥓🥩🍖cuts and you can grill them right in front of you. Is it good? OMG, the marination is spot on 🎯! The meat cuts are juicy, tender and so delicious 😋😋😋! I removed the pork 🐷 belly and set it on the top of my rice for the melting fat oil to drip back into my rice! LOL 🤣😎😬#sickbutiloveit We ordered 🧾rounds and washed them all down with a few bottles of beer 🍺🍻🍺. It was brilliant! ✅✅✅ What I didn’t enjoy was the extraction system for the smoke 💨to get out wasn’t exactly at the best. 🫣 Somehow, during a BBQ session, there is always that one moment, everyone will just add the meat and oil at the same time and the entire restaurant will just smoke out! The BBQ smoke lingers on your jackets 🧥and clothing 👖🧣👚👕 for a while. So a pro tip is……. Bring a trash bag, once inside the restaurant, put all your jackets inside the trash bag and tie it up. (That’s what we did in Korea 🇰🇷) Staff 💁🏼‍♀️💁‍♂️ were very friendly and polite but spoke limited English 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿but it wasn’t so difficult, as all we had to do was point at the pictures 🖼️. …. The meal was really, really good 👍👍👍! Given it was winter ❄️ and we were huddled up in a room for good BBQ meat 🥩🍖and beer, the whole experience was just unforgettable! Just one note to remember, do make a reservation especially during the peak period. #bestbbqinmyoko

Hands down our favourite restaurant in Akakura Myoko. Beautiful marinaded meat (sirloin our favourite) with local specialties (try the tongue - you wont be disappointed). Also a range of veggies as well, with great mushrooms. Don’t get put off by the corridor to the restaurant - behind the door is bbq heaven. Small, smokey and rustic. You MUST book ahead.

Best yakiniku (Japanese Barbeque) you could look for in Myoko. Family-operated so basically traditional japanese styled restaurant. They even offer fresh veggie grew in their own family farm, which is unforgettble. The owner(dad) is so nice that he even drove us back to our hotel when it was too busy time for taking taxi. Amazing one :)

The cafe Panorama Cafe & Dining offers delectable cuisine and is highly recommended for its mouthwatering dishes. The seating arrangements might be a bit challenging as the sofas are often occupied, but this minor inconvenience does not overshadow the overall positive experience. The staff members are friendly, welcoming, and thoughtful. It is conveniently located at the back of the gear rental shop, making it an ideal spot for a quick snack after a day on the mountain.
It was our spot to go to after a long day of skiing for the 5 days we were in Myoko. Lovely friendly staff, a nice selection of snacks, drinks and food with the lovely view of the mountains! Their fries were so yummy and so were the choco chip cookies, carrot cakes, warm brownies !
SUH P — Google review
Coffee is great. The brownies are great if you’re lucky (two were amazing, the third one was so dry only vast quantities of coffee got it to go down). The staff are very friendly but will get your order wrong (we were here twice because the coffee was good, both times they confused stuff on pretty straight forward orders).
David B — Google review
Fantastic coffee and great atmosphere. I have come here throughout the season and the staff are consistently friendly and the vibe makes it a great place to spend time. The staff especially Jordy, Momo and Cruz always ask about my day and create a homely atmosphere. Can't wait to come back here next season 😄.

Food was lovely and probably going to return. Keep wanting to take the sofas though n people always get there first…so not really a worthwhile complaint, but the only one I have. The staff members are also kind, warm and considerate.

I dined at Restaurant Shibata, making a reservation a day in advance. The ambiance was cozy and pleasant, with friendly waitstaff and a charming fireplace. The cuisine was outstanding, leaving me satisfied that I had made the right choice. Alongside my meal, I indulged in hot chocolate with marshmallows and enjoyed a draft beer accompanied by edamame. For dessert, the mocha ice-cream with cone and chocolate fondant were particularly delicious.
Probably one of the best meals we have had so far in Japan. Both meals were amazing and drinks were perfect. Price is definitely competitive for the area and worth every cent. Trying to book again before we leave. They also offer takeaway which seemed to have minimal wait times.

We went to Myoko 🗻 at the peak of the winter ☃️ season and thank goodness 🙏🏼 we got our hotel 🏨 to make a reservation for us. Arrived on time ⏰ and was directed to our table immediately. Every table is pre-booked and if you are late, they will give up your slot. The restaurant is really neat 🍽️ and clean 🫧🧼! Their interior designer uses lots of wooden 🪵 furniture 🪑and the place is brightly lit 💡. The walls are adorned with retro posters 🏞️🖼️. There are bar 🍷 and table seating options available and if you are going  to order a lot of food, I will suggest the table seating option. Shibata serves typical Japanese 🎌cuisine, and the food is very well prepared 🧑‍🍳👍. We tried the Katsudon 🍛 and the rice 🍚 was so fragrant and the meat 🥩 was perfectly fried. Fried Chicken 🐓needs no introduction (we order two portions!), it came hot ♨️and as we dip in, the mayonnaise just melted 🫠. The Big Crispy Tofu and Gyoza 🥟🥟🥟 were pan fried to the perfect crispiness 😎. Crusty on the outside and wet and soft on the inside, #winner! Water🚰is free flow, just help yourself. Staff 🙋‍♀️💁‍♂️ are very polite but spoke limited English 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 but hey, ok we got the order done no biggy. 😇 A pleasant visit to this restaurant and they hit all the right notes for the food. ✅✅✅ Just one note to remember is to make a reservation especially during the peak period. #goodjapanesefoodinmyoko #petfriendly

They have a separate vegetarian/vegan menu, just need to ask for it when you arrive. I ordered the Big crispy tofu (not pictured), radish salad, gyoza and Udon. Tofu and salad are enough for one person. During peak season it can be very busy.

Very delicious. We stay 4days in Akakura onsen. And we visit this restaurant 2 times. The price is cheap. And their service is very good. Had better to reserved.

We booked 1 day before. It was a warm and nice restaurant. Waitresses were polite and there was a small fire place. The food was excellent and we’re so glad we booked! We also had a hot chocolate with marshmallows and a draft beer with edamame. For desserts, the mocha ice-cream with cone and the chocolate fondant were really tasty. We will definitely come again if we visit Akakura Onsen.
Priscilla N — Google review
We were early in the season so not many restaurants were opened. We walked into Shibata and was lucky to get a table. Family run restaurant that serves typical ski resort food. My son had the cheese covered hamburg steak (He said it was good) while we had the special BBQ set for 2. English menu available
Kee H — Google review
The edamame was the highlight. The ramen was likely too salty. Good atmosphere however. Don’t order the draught beer. They do not pour it correctly and you end up with a glass of froth.

If you're on the hunt for an authentic yakitori experience, look no further than 備長炭火やきとり 麻顔 -Yakitori Asagao-. Nestled in the heart of Akakura, this family-run gem offers a delightful array of grilled skewers that will tantalize your taste buds. In addition to their mouth-watering chicken and pork options, you can also indulge in unique specialties like whole roasted garlic bulbs.
This is truly a hidden gem 💎 at Japan 🇯🇵 - Myoko Town! Restaurant : One floor down ↙️ from the main road, to the left hand side, this small Izakaya (BBQ Sticks 🍢) restaurant takes about 20pax and 4 guys 👨‍🦳👱‍♂️👨👴🏻 runs the business. It is near impossible ❌❌❌ to get a table if you do not make a reservation (予約). Service : Top notch 👍👍👍! Expect funky 😎🥳🤩 Japanese service. Even the older 👨‍🦳 gentlemen has this hip hop dress code and they ooze the chill cool vibe. Spoke simple basic English 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 but totally got the orders 🧾 and made recommendations for us too. Food : Just amazing! (See my pics!) you order up, they start cooking and you are served while piping hot! We ordered a wide variety of BBQ skewers 🍢. I will highly recommend the Chicken 🐓 Thigh 🍗, Pork 🐷Belly 🥓, Chicken 🐔 Skin and Fried Chicken with Tartar Sauce. The idea is to drink 🍻 and eat and not rush the order. They have a small bar and they are funky singing 🎶 and cooking 🍳and totally just chill. Awesome vibe! If you are staying at this town, get your hotel 🏨 to make a reservation for you! #izakayainmyoko #chillvibe #greatfood

INCREDIBLE! This is my third time to Japan and I have NEVER been so....just lost for words. I'd heard about this place from many locals but it just seemed impossible to get a seat at. EVERY TIME we went around dinner service we were told to come back later. One night we held out until 9pm and my my my....WORTH THE WAIT. Amazing tasty, traditional yakitori in a cozy vibe! Was willing to hand over a blank cheque for this experience. The whole bill came to $120 for three of us but we tipped them $30. I seriously cannot decide which party seemed happier. We were stoked. They were stoked. A very memorable experience!

If you’re staying in the area grab a delicious bite (you’ll want many bites) before it becomes 1+ hours wait every night. We had the wings, chicken with green onions, chicken thighs and pork belly and everything was tasty. Tofu and the yakitori don were also great. They have a decent drink selection and beer on tap. Overally a very good apres ski meal.
Trang N — Google review
Come after 7.45pm if no reservation. This is the only yakitori place in reservation town. It is almost impossible to get a normal dinner timing here unless you reserve (like all the restaurants in this town). Food is decent but not as good as many ive had in tokyo. Some of the yakitori were too salty. My favourites were the Liver, heart and chicken breast. I tried every yakitori item and would only suggest passing on the torikawa(skin). Drinks are available too with great variety. A side note is that i think the owner had her kid there too and was disrupting the dinner seating. There were other kids gathering over games and bumping into me as i ate. It is quite expensive as well with a minimum of 2 sticks per order.
Chee — Google review
This is a very popular yakitori dinner option among the quaint skiing/snowboarding crowd staying around the Akakura Onsen slope esp around 6-8.30pm (sort of the apre ski eating spot), so it's best to ask your hotel to help you make a reservation if you intend to eat during that period. They are a non-pretentious cosy bunch making yakitori. We started with a pale ale that the owner's friend brewed, as well as a umeshu (plum wine) w hot water that the owner made herself. Both were delish and a great way to start while they grill your orders. We ordered the combo chicken plater which has various parts, in both the sauce and shio (salt). Both were nice, but i personally preferred the one seasoned just w simple salt cause their chicken alone was juicy enough. Would also like to highlight their fried chicken cartilage which had a special batter that was amazing. Kinda milk powder-ish. Their spicy fried rice was also super yummy, and the chilli sauce their use comes with a hint of citrusy tang. Love that place, and super nice to recharge w their bohemian vibes and freshly cooked food after a day of snowboarding!

Amazing amazing Yakitori. Some fantastic food at this restaurant. Suggested by our hotel owner, lack of Google reviews seem to point to this being a bit of a hidden gem. Meat really was melt in your mouth. Side dishes like rice and potato wedges were nothing special, but as a Yakitori alone, it has to be rated 5 stars.

I really enjoy the food and drink, super tasty...especially breakfast. The only thing i have to say is a negative is the inconsistency in opening hours. Its one of the few places here in the village that offers options for breakfast and lunch that arent a “hotel” restaurant and 8 out of 10 times i go its closed and its a bit frustrating. I wish it would post more accurate shop hours. I would still recommend going here but maybe call ahead and have a back up option ready.

Authentic Japanese food and local sake. We have been here twice with kids. Both times the food and service was excellent. The chicken skin dumplings and grilled fish are a must. The nabu is delicious. And their sake selection is very good.
Kalina C — Google review
I don't know why the previous ratings for Izakaya Harumi were lack lustre. I enjoyed my 2 dinners there. Went there one night, and somehow back on another (cause the other restos were fully occupied, haha, but i still enjoyed!). They offer a selection of humble food, but the entire crew was super warm and friendly. They have an english menu. On day 1, we had yakitori of the thigh, meat ball, and the pork belly. The sauced option was more juicy than the salted one, and they provided a scoop of a tangy chilli sauce by the side that I liked. We also had the kimchi hotpot. They dont really use korean kimchi, and it is more towards the ketchup saucy type but we ordered some extra udon to add it. On day 2, we went for the grilled fish and chose the slightly more expensive Atka Mackerel, and i enjoyed it! Nicely seasoned, still juicy with the fish fat and w some crispy grill. We also had the sukiyaki, and it was on the sweeter side, and had some greens and the chewy vermicelli-noodle thing among the meat. Both days we had their cold tofu and it is a humble dish that I loved how they non-pretentiously prepared. It is a clean, comfortable, warmly lit modern-izakaya place that definitely deserves more rating!

Food was average, but Beware once you sit down they will bring a small side dish (smaller than size of your palm) of some bamboo seasame snack (probably our fault should have checked) but they charged us an exorbitant 200 yen each for the tiny dish. When we asked for a breakdown of the expenses none was provided except the receipt provided! For 5 pax, we ordered 2 sets of Sukiyaki -2500 2800 yen plus rice/udon for 5 pax up to 1000 yen with 1 ocha drink. Even with 10% tax which was NOT indicated anywhere we were definitely overcharged. Avoid!!

(Translated by Google) I stopped by while test driving a car. I applied for a test drive that I could borrow for a few days, and I came here in a test drive car. The parking lot closest to the airport was full, and even though it was a weekday, there were quite a few people using it. I was able to park in the transit plaza right next to it. From here, it's just a 2-3 minute walk to the airport building. There is a memorial tree planted on the way, and a paper airplane-shaped plate made of iron is on it. Depending on how you look at it, the memorial tree looks like Godzilla. Please see the photo. There are souvenir shops and restaurants in the airport, so if you are in the area, it's a good idea to stop by here. There is a Yamabiko Dome and a park around the airport, and it must be very lively when events are held. If you go around to the other side of the airport, you will be able to see the runway from the line of sight. You can also take impressive photos of the planes. If I have the chance next time, I would like to take a leisurely walk on the other side as well. I didn't have much time this time, so I went out to the viewing deck and took photos of the planes. However, suddenly, there was an announcement that the plane was cancelled... I remember someone on the deck asking me again if the announcement was a cancellation and looking very surprised. After the announcement, passengers who had boarded the plane started to disembark, and I thought, this must be a big problem. I think I was there for about 30 minutes net, but since I had to go on to my next appointment, I picked up a tourist guidebook displayed next to the information counter on the first floor and left the airport. If I had the time, I'd like to experience traveling around Japan by connecting airports in other parts of the country.

(Translated by Google) I used Shinshu Matsumoto Airport in Matsumoto City. While it's compact for a regional airport, the interior is clean, boarding procedures were smooth, and it left an impression of being safe and secure. The parking lot is located in front of the terminal, and its free use is a major attraction. However, depending on the time of day, the front parking lot can be full, in which case you'll need to park in the second parking lot, which is a little further away. Although it's within walking distance, I recommend arriving with plenty of time to avoid being late for your boarding time. The official website also has a live camera that shows the parking lot's congestion status, so it's a good idea to check before you depart. The airport has shops and restaurants, and is stocked with Shinshu local specialties and souvenirs, so you can enjoy a relaxing time before and after your flight. I felt it was a user-friendly and friendly airport, perfect as a base for tourism and business.

(Translated by Google) I used Matsumoto Airport (Shinshu Matsumoto Airport) for a business trip. It's the only airport in Nagano Prefecture, but currently only operated by FDA (Fuji Dream Airlines). It only operates a few routes, such as New Chitose, Kobe, and Fukuoka, and the number of flights is extremely limited, with only one or two round trips per day. It's so inconvenient that I honestly feel like it's on the verge of being shut down. It seems to have a history of being saved by the Shizuoka FDA, but I worry about how long it will last if things continue like this. Perhaps due to the low number of passengers, the terminal was quiet, and there seemed to be few souvenir shops. That said, this airport does have its good points. It's known as the airport with the highest altitude in Japan, and the views from the observation deck are outstanding. The view of planes taking off and landing against the backdrop of the Northern Alps is particularly spectacular during snowy season. The airport's compact size makes it easy to navigate and navigate, which is a plus. And best of all, free parking is a real bonus. However, because the airport is far from Matsumoto city, access to Matsumoto Station and other areas requires a bus, which takes time, so it's undeniably inconvenient. While the views may be irresistible for airplane enthusiasts, I felt it was a tough choice for travelers prioritizing business or convenience. (Translated by Google) It's a small regional airport. Basically only FDA serves the airport, but JAL sometimes operates seasonal flights. FDA flies to Sapporo, Kobe, and Fukuoka, while JAL's seasonal flights seem to be to Itami. There are no flights to Tokyo, perhaps because the distance is too short for a plane. There is a limousine bus to Matsumoto Station, but it takes about 40 minutes.
