Montreal

Montréal is the largest city in Canada's Québec province. It’s set on an island in the Saint Lawrence River and named after Mt. Royal, the triple-peaked hill at its heart. Its boroughs, many of which were once independent cities, include neighbourhoods ranging from cobblestoned, French colonial Vieux-Montréal – with the Gothic Revival Notre-Dame Basilica at its centre – to bohemian Plateau.

Basilica
Sights & Landmarks
Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal, dating back to 1824, is a magnificent church renowned for its vibrant stained glass and as a venue for concert performances. The neo-Gothic interiors have been transformed into a 21st-century digital spectacle through the Aura show by Moment Factory. This multimedia studio has projected colorful rays and images onto the arches, columns, altar, and vaulted ceiling, creating an awe-inspiring experience.
Unforgettable Experience at Montreal Notre-Dame Basilica. Even if you're not religious, the AURA light show at Montreal’s Notre-Dame Basilica is absolutely worth seeing. The basilica itself is stunning, with its deep blue ceiling and intricate Gothic architecture. But the real highlight is the AURA show—an immersive blend of music, lights, and storytelling that brings the space to life. The story is easy to follow and beautifully presented. Outside, the square is full of energy with street performers and local charm. Inside, it’s pure magic. Highly recommend this to anyone visiting Montreal!

Visiting the Notre-Dame Basilica in Old Montreal was already high on our list, but the AURA light show elevated the experience into something truly unforgettable. From the moment we stepped inside, the neo-Gothic architecture wrapped us in a sense of awe—towering columns, intricate woodwork, and stained glass that seemed to whisper centuries of history. Then came AURA. The show begins with a self-guided walk through the Basilica, where subtle lighting and ambient sound bring the art and architecture to life. It’s like the building itself is breathing. And then, the main event: a 20-minute multimedia spectacle that transforms the Basilica’s interior into a canvas of light, color, and sound. The projections danced across the vaulted ceilings and ornate altar, synchronized perfectly with a dramatic musical score. At times, it felt like we were inside a living painting—one moment evoking the serenity of nature, the next pulsing with cosmic energy. The use of lasers and animation was tasteful and powerful, never overwhelming, and always respectful of the sacred space. 🎶 The Casavant organ’s deep tones added a majestic layer to the experience, and the transitions between scenes were seamless. Whether you're spiritual or simply appreciate art and architecture, AURA is a must-see. It’s not just a show—it’s a celebration of light, history, and imagination. Highly recommend catching an evening performance to feel the full impact. We left with goosebumps and a renewed appreciation for how technology can enhance—not replace—human creativity.
S B — Google review
While the advertisements for the AURA experience are stunning, it holds no candle in comparison to sitting in one of the pews. The AURA show tells a story, and it is beautifully captured within the walls of the Notre-Dame. Seating is based on first to enter, so if you wish to sit closer, show up early to wait in line outside. There really isn't a bad seat if you can manage to get in a center pew. If you arrive closer to the starting time, you will likely be disappointed in your seats as it isn't ideal and you are further left or right. Some of the pews are sectioned off as you won't be able to see anything due to pillars and structures blocking the main focal point. Once the show starts, photographs and videos are prohibited, and I can completely understand why. It gets very dark around the floor and pews, so any light from phones can become a major distraction and potentially ruin the experience. They also have the option for you to light a candle in memory of a loved one. It completely adds to the experience and provides a level of comfort that makes everything even more special. They had four-day candles that were approximately ten dollars, while the LEDs cost two dollars and only last for the duration of your stay. The show itself lasts about a half an hour; I was slightly confused on the Fever website when purchasing tickets we it said the duration was three hours. Regardless of the time it takes, every minute was worth it. This experience offers up some stunning imagery in tandem with holistic audio. It's an incredible, spiritual experience and I would recommend this to anyone visiting Montréal who has the opportunity to do so - religious or not.

It is not big and will not take much time to check out all unless you want to pray. I did not see the light show though, but its stunning architecture, intricate interior design, and historical significance amazed me. With the interior along with seeing people talk in low voices, made it feel like a sacred place to sit and think quietly. For me, it is one of the most amazing experiences one can have.
Zahida I — Google review
It was our first experience attending an aura show in a church, and it was truly wonderful. The church is huge, very old, and beautifully maintained. Even though the place was full for the show, the well-organized staff made everything easy and comfortable. The show lasted about 25 minutes, which felt just right. The sound system and lighting were of excellent quality, creating a perfect atmosphere for the performance. Note that photos and videos are not allowed during the show. Parking can be a bit tricky, so it’s best to find a paid parking spot nearby and arrive early to get a good seat in the middle section. Overall, a great experience and definitely recommended!

The Basilica is beautiful. We went for the evening light show and were a little disappointed. Again, beautiful building but the show was just ok. I think we would have both been happier just seeing the architecture and details and hearing the history of the building. The show just didn't seem to have a theme, one part may have depicted the change of the seasons but that was about it. I wouldn't see the show again but would love to walk through the Basilica during the day.
Ryan M — Google review
Wonderful place to visit and be still with God. Make sure you plan an hour to view all the displays. Recommend to get a guide or rent the audio guide that explains all the key displays. The small chapel behind the main sanctuary is nice to visit as well. Overall I don't think you will be disappointed if you are into catholic and Christian religion.
SSIU — Google review
It was a wonderful experience visiting this church. It made me feel truly amazed. Learning about its history made it even more meaningful. Although part of the building is under renovation, every corner of the church is full of beautiful and intricate details. Even though there were a lot of people inside, most were very respectful. However, I did notice one or two people trying to take photos inside the prayer room, which was disappointing. I think it would be helpful if someone could guide visitors near the prayer area to remind them to be quiet and respectful. After I finished praying, people continued to take photos and talk, which made me feel a bit upset. Overall, it was an incredible experience to visit such a stunning and historic building in Montreal. I would definitely recommend it to everyone.

Sights & Landmarks
Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal is a grand Catholic church located on the south side of Montreal's namesake mountain. It features a magnificent dome, an art museum, beautiful gardens, and organ concerts. The basilica has a rich history dating back to 1904 when a small chapel was built by Andre Bessette, known for his miracle cures attributed to Saint Joseph.
Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal is a truly breathtaking and spiritual place to visit. The architecture is stunning, with its majestic dome visible from all around Montreal, and the interior is peaceful, welcoming, and filled with history. The gardens and surrounding grounds are beautifully maintained, offering a perfect place for reflection and quiet walks. Whether you visit for faith, culture, or simply to admire the beauty, this site is a must-see landmark in Montreal. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the city!

A must-visit if you are spending a weekend in Montreal! This is the largest oratory in Canada, and the sunset views from here are absolutely mesmerizing. The new infrastructure is very thoughtfully designed, with lifts and escalators that make it accessible for seniors and people with disabilities. Don’t miss exploring the chambers below the main hall or the serene garden behind the dome and the best part is, it’s completely free to visit. Oh and the gift shop has one of the best variety of religious souvenirs with reasonable price
Onurag — Google review
Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal is truly one of Montreal’s most magnificent and peaceful landmarks. Whether you’re visiting for spiritual reasons, architectural beauty, or simply to enjoy the panoramic view of the city, this place never disappoints. The architecture is breathtaking, combining grandeur and serenity in a way that instantly captures your attention. Inside, the main basilica is vast, calm, and filled with light, and the smaller chapels offer a more intimate and reflective atmosphere. Even if you’re not religious, you can feel the sense of peace and devotion that fills the space. The view from the top of Mount Royal is stunning, especially at sunset—you can see much of Montreal’s skyline and beyond. The gardens and surrounding grounds are beautifully maintained, perfect for a quiet walk or just sitting and taking in the view. There’s also a museum and a small gift shop that are worth visiting, and the staff and volunteers are kind and welcoming. The climb up the steps is symbolic for many visitors, and even if you just go halfway, it’s a meaningful experience. Overall, the Oratory is a must-see attraction in Montreal—a place that combines spirituality, history, and natural beauty in a way that stays with you long after your visit.

A place of many miracles, and a miracle indeed if you make it up the numerous stairs before finally reaching the front door! Saint Brother Andrew, the founder, really had our cardiovascular health at hearth when building the sanctuary. Nowadays known across the world, people of all faiths are welcome at the catholic shrine. It seems miraculous healing by the mighty angels and the great architect in the sky operates without discrimination. At first humbling by its size and location on the Mount-Royal, the Oratory is nonetheless a place of calm and serenity, to the point where you might hear thoughts flying around. For some a manifestation from the above, for others simply a wise architectural setting. You may come to your own conclusions while looking at the many orthoses hanging on the wall, left there by those healed graciously by ethereal manifestations, according to the legend. Close by, the heart of the Saint is kept in a room where worshippers may pay respect to the great man. Elegantly, His upper chapel (The Basilique) was built on Renaissance trends, although there are noticeable art-deco lines. As for the lower chapel, it is significantly set as a classic catholic church. Do look at the massive organ at the back of the upper chapel, it is really something, and especially great at listening to if someone is playing during mass. A walk outside and around the Oratory is interesting, might you wish to enjoy a sunset and the breeze from the balcony terraces or a stroll on the Chemin de la croix (Way of sorrows), and for sure don’t miss the original chapel the Saint build and lived in before the might of the Oratory was just barely a thought. May peace be conferred upon you all, and cheers!

We didn’t know what to expect when people told us about this church - impressive. Another example of what humans can do together. Is a must when you visit Montreal, with an impressive architecture and presence. The church is modern inside and I liked the light passing the windows. Allocate around 90 min to visit all floors and enjoy the spiritual moment and the view

Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal is a breathtaking landmark that blends spiritual serenity with architectural grandeur. Perched on Mount Royal, it offers sweeping views of Montreal and a peaceful atmosphere that invites reflection and prayer. The basilica’s stunning domed structure, beautiful gardens, and candle-lit votive chapel make it a truly inspiring place to visit. Whether for faith, history, or simple tranquility, Saint-Joseph du Mont-Royal leaves a lasting impression on every visitor.

The Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal (L'Oratoire Saint-Joseph-du-Mont-Royal) is an extremely prominent and impressive religious landmark, making it one of the most important tourist attractions in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is Canada's largest church and a National Shrine. The church features one of the world's largest church domes, rising 97 meters (from the basilica floor) and standing as the highest point in Montreal. The shrine was founded in 1904 by Saint André Bessette (or Brother André)—a member of the Congregation of the Holy Cross. Brother André started the sanctuary with a small wooden chapel. Thanks to his reputation for healing (which he always attributed to Saint Joseph), the site attracted huge numbers of pilgrims. The large complex seen today began construction in 1922 and was completed in 1967.

Its nice to learn about religion, how it held societies in the past and the society today. As an atheist, it was also nice to learn about how things worked especially with 1 ex catholic, they had holy water scattered around the place, and one church area had seats where you could kneel on the back of the other seat and pray. It was also neat to see other Christian people pray as I have never seen that before. It has a nice view where you can see the city. Amazing building too. It is truly incredible how dedicated people are to making a place of worship. I suggest visiting for everyone.

Farmers' market

Jean Talon Market is a must-visit culinary paradise located in the Villeray neighborhood. It is one of the largest open-air markets in North America, offering a wide variety of products such as produce, meats, cheeses, fish, and baked goods. The market features year-round stores including a gigantic cheese store, a meat shop, and a place to get Quebecoise beer and preserves.
In Montreal, the two most popular markets are Atwater and Jean-Talon. I chose Jean-Talon because it’s larger and known for having more farmers and produce vendors. The market is very easy to reach — just take the orange metro line to Jean-Talon station, and from there it’s an easy five-minute walk. While the market is open-air, most of the produce stalls are covered under a large roof, with additional shops, plant stores, and small restaurants lining the perimeter. You’ll find a colorful variety of seasonal produce — corn on the cob, berries like strawberries and blueberries, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, peaches, and apples. There are also a few seafood stands offering items like fried fish and oysters, adding even more variety. I visited on a weekend, since I’d read there are more vendors and livelier crowds, but even on a sunny Sunday it didn’t feel overwhelming. The traffic flowed well, and it was easy to browse at a relaxed pace. What I enjoyed most was simply walking around, admiring the beautiful displays of produce, and chatting with the friendly vendors. Jean-Talon Market is more than just a place to shop — it’s a slice of Montreal’s culture. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the city.

This market, located in Little Italy, was fantastic. Everything is incredibly fresh and locally sourced. You can find a wide variety of products, including meat, cheese, seafood, fruits, and vegetables. There are also ready-to-eat food options, which are perfect if you’re hungry while exploring. As a traveler, you can also pick up some unique souvenirs. I saw handmade soap and local honey which are great items to bring back home. I tried the gelato, and it was delicious! I’m already looking forward to coming back and trying another flavor next time.

Beautiful fresh produce and local maple syrup, etc! Really nice place for a stroll and to pick up some fresh vegetables. Being from out of town, we were unable to stock the fridge but 100% would love if this was somewhere we could shop daily or weekly. We were able to pick up some maple cookies, syrup and other treats for the family. Everything looked very fresh and everyone was very friendly for service.

A Vibrant Feast for the Senses – Montreal’s Must-Visit Market! If you’re looking for a true taste of Montreal, Marché Jean-Talon is the place to be! This iconic farmers market is more than just a spot to grab groceries—it’s a lively, colorful experience that captures the heart of the city. From the moment you step in, you’re greeted with the freshest local produce: crisp vegetables, ripe fruits, artisanal cheeses, and fragrant herbs. But that’s just the beginning! You’ll also find charming souvenir stalls, stunning bouquets of fresh-cut flowers, and irresistible bakeries that fill the air with the smell of freshly baked bread and pastries. The market is surprisingly spacious, so take your time—I easily spent a whole afternoon wandering through the aisles, chatting with friendly vendors, and soaking in the vibrant atmosphere. Don’t leave without stopping by the crêpe stand for a sweet or savory treat. It’s the perfect break during your exploration! Whether you’re a local doing your weekly shopping or a visitor looking for an authentic Montreal experience, Marché Jean-Talon offers something for everyone. I can’t wait to go back!

We visited Marche Jean Talon on a Monday morning during our Montreal-Quebec city summer vacation. From the variety of shops, to the quality of produce, it absolutely blew us away! Can’t believe it’s open all day every day; wish we had anything close to this in our neighborhood. Street parking was easy to find on a weekday morning, and the market was pretty quiet when we arrived just before 10 AM. We split a rocket, goat cheese, walnut panini on ciabatta, which was delicious. I also tried a few cheeses at the extensive cheese shop, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I could have spent hours at the marketing roaming, admiring all the vibrant, fresh produce, and watching local artists sketch and paint the floral section — which is stunning. It was a great place to buy souvenirs and trip gifts from local vendors. If only we had time to come back to Marche Jean Talon multiple days on our trip. Highly recommend!

Marche Jean-Talon — Fall Magic in Montreal 🍂🎃 If you’re looking for a true autumn experience in Montreal, Marché Jean-Talon is unbeatable. The market is alive with color right now — brilliant pumpkins stacked high, vibrant mums and fall flowers everywhere, cozy stalls lined with apples, squash, and seasonal produce. The air smells like crisp leaves and fresh baked bread, and every corner feels festive. And… YES… things are a little pricey compared to your local supermarket… c’est la vie! I loved walking past the playful skeletons, artful fall displays, and stands overflowing with everything you could wish for this season — from warm cider and maple treats to baskets of gourds in every shade. It’s the perfect spot to soak in Montreal’s autumn charm, grab a few seasonal treasures, and snap some photos that feel like pure fall. 🍎🌻🍁

Museums
Nestled in the heart of Montreal, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts stands as a testament to artistic expression and cultural heritage. Established in 1860, it proudly holds the title of Canada’s oldest art museum and is a prominent institution in North America. The museum boasts an impressive collection that spans over 41,000 pieces from various eras and regions, showcasing everything from ancient artifacts to contemporary masterpieces.
If you’re under 25, you get in for free! I only discovered this a month before my birthday—better late than never, right? Maybe someone else will appreciate the heads-up 🤭 One thing I love about this museum is how many quiet corners there are where you can soak in the city views. I come here not just for the art, but to let it inspire me — along with the beautiful panoramas. There’s something about this place that feeds both the mind and the soul.

The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) is a truly wonderful experience and easily one of the best places to spend a full day in the city. Since it’s spread across five pavilions, it feels massive without being overwhelming, offering something for every taste—from Canadian masterworks to international contemporary pieces, plus stunning decorative arts. The entire complex is beautiful, blending historic Beaux-Arts architecture with sleek modern extensions, and the collection is so diverse you can dive deep into anything from Rodin to Inuit art. You could easily lose three to four hours wandering through the themed pavilions, finding quiet corners to enjoy the amazing curation. It's an inspiring and enriching way to spend your time in Montreal!

Extensive and varied collection across two main buildings connected by underground passageway. Current featured exhibit by Kent Monkman is a must-see. Expensive admission ($31) but no extra charge for special exhibits. Good accessibility. Highly recommended.

Impressive museum. A wide range of interesting exhibits. We went with 5-year-old kids - there was a nice play area, and also a Fimo crafting area. But even the kids were impressed by the exhibits themselves. On the left at the entrance, there's a free bag and coat check service. We parked nearby in a street with a meter."

The museum is absolutely stunning. The architecture alone is worth the visit - the buildings are beautiful, blending historic charm with modern design. The collections are diverse and thoughtful curated with something for everyone. It’s a place where you can easily spend hours exploring. Definitely a must see if you’re in Montreal - whether you’re an art lover or just looking for a meaningful and inspiring experience.

On the first Sunday of every month, admission is free. Online booking allows for quick entry. Most of the exhibits are from collectors' collections, with rich content but themes that are not very unified. When I went, I saw works by Picasso, Monet, Miró, Rodin, and others, but not many. The museum's architecture and scenery are beautiful.

Vin Mon Lapin is a chic and intimate establishment that offers an ever-changing menu of farm-to-table dishes paired with a selection of natural wines. The restaurant, run by chefs Marc-Olivier Frappier and Jessica Noel, boasts impeccable service and a cozy ambiance. The wine list features exceptional finds, making it stand out in Montreal's dining scene.
This is easily one of the best meals I have ever had. We went on a busy Saturday night and we were promptly seated as soon as we arrived. Our original server was absolutely lovely and really helped us with the menu. We decided to have the kitchen curate a menu for us with wine pairings which was the BEST decision. We got such an array of dishes and every single one was delicious and every wine accompaniment worked perfectly. We were there for 2 hours and were attended to perfectly by multiple servers who were so knowledgeable about the menu and wine pairings. The restaurant itself was beautiful, I cannot say enough good things. I can’t wait to go back

✨ We had the most wonderful evening at Mon Lapin yesterday for my mother-in-law’s birthday, and I can’t stop thinking about it. From start to finish, everything was exceptional, the food, the wine, the atmosphere, and the hospitality. Every dish was so beautifully prepared, layered with flavor and creativity while still feeling comforting and approachable. The staff made us feel truly celebrated — warm, attentive, and full of knowledge about the menu and wine pairings. The energy in the restaurant is both lively and intimate, making it the perfect place for a special occasion. My in-law was absolutely delighted, and we all left with full hearts (and very happy stomachs!). We’ll definitely be back soon.

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with genuine warmth. Even though the restaurant was absolutely packed, the service never missed a beat. Every person on the team seemed fully in sync, effortlessly anticipating what guests needed before they even asked. It’s rare to see that level of teamwork executed so smoothly. We ordered: • Le croque-pétoncle (scallop sandwiches) • Brochette de langue de boeuf (beef tongue) • Boeuf de pâturage (raw grass-fed beef) ✨Oursin QC (sea urchin): It was silky, and has that nutty toasted richness from the brown butter. ✨✨Parfait de foie (liver parfait): It was smooth, and velvety without being heavy. It's the kind of dish that lingers in your memory long after the meal ends. I still occasionally talk about it. Every dish was thoughtful and balanced, not a single bite needed extra seasoning. The flavors had depth, and precision. And though the scallop sandwiches and dessert didn’t quite hit the same high notes for me, but everything else more than made up for it. Amazing food and amazing service! I can't wait to be back again and just for that parfait de foie alone.

Vin Mon Lapin truly delivers on what one could only describe as one of the best dining experiences in Montreal. It is not for no reason that reservations are so difficult to get your hands on. The menu can only be described as a playground for hyperseasonal local produce. The food is highly creative, blending a variety of flavors and textures. Sweet, savoury, fragrant and acidic while creamy, juicy, chewy, and crispy. Every dish was perfectly balanced through the meticulous and thoughtful marriage of seasonal ingredients. Service was equally impeccable. The staff was highly attentive and engaging. They were also knowledgeable on the menu and explained each dish with a passion that reflects a deep love for their craft and appreciation for the soil. Overall, my experience with Vin Mon Lapin was splendid. Each dish was a burst of flavor that kept me wanting more. This is an establishment I truly believe deserves all the love and everyone must try once. I highly look forward to coming back again and tasting their culinary creations through all the seasons.

Absolutely incredible. The vibe here is very cozy and warm. It’s not a large restaurant and they encourage guests to spend time savouring, so if you make a reservation don’t expect to be seated for about an hour afterwards. That said, the service when seated makes up for it. We spent time enjoying a glass of wine and watching the chefs do their thing over the bar. When a table had cleared we ordered the tuna, scallop sandwiches (a must), somerset chicken, cod, and ricotta balls. Everything was so light yet packed so much for flavour. We actually made a second reservation while still at dinner.

Mon Lapin, awarded 2nd best in North America for good reason. Immaculate and warm service. From taking your coat, to explaining the menu, Mon Lapin treats you like a friend. Very pleasant dining experience, even got to see another familiar face from our dining travels! The scallop sandwich was so intriguing, you can feel the fun the chef was having with it. Loved the sourdough marinated chicken served with the fish roe on top. Everything worked so well together! Only thing would have liked differently would have been dressing the salad a quarter or so less to enjoy the greens more. The bits of fried chicken with the radish and pate was so yummy! Very satisfied with the meal and the cute little rabbit!

"Toqué!" is a renowned restaurant in Montreal, known for its farm-fresh Québécois dishes and tasting menus crafted by chef Normand Laprise. The restaurant has been listing its producers on the menu for the past thirty years, showcasing a commitment to market-driven dining. The minimalist yet warm dining room offers views of Place Jean-Paul Riopelle and the wine cellar.
The staff were very attentive, even from the message I sent when making my reservation. They also greeted me with a smile and courtesy after I arrived. I chose the seven-course tasting menu. All the dishes were delicately and beautifully presented and delicious. The waitress explained each dish clearly, allowing me to enjoy the meal. I usually pair my wine with wine, but unfortunately I had drunk too much the night before and couldn't enjoy the wine. As I was leaving, they even made a special Japanese menu rist for me as a gift, since I'm Japanese. I really appreciated their thoughtfulness. I'd definitely like to come back and dine here again when I'm in Montreal. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Thanks chefs for adjusting the entire tasting menu to fit my dietary restrictions with care and creativity. Each wine pairing came with a well told captivating story. Our waitress was warm and attentive, and the bartender dazzled us with creative mocktails. The cozy, elegant ambiance made it all the more special. A true feast for all the senses! While I truly appreciated the experience, the high price point didn’t quite match the overall wow factor I was hoping for — which is why I gave 4 stars instead of 5.

Toqué! was an unforgettable dining experience from start to finish! The staff was warm, attentive, and made us feel truly cared for throughout the whole meal. The cozy yet elegant ambiance tied it all together. Everything we ordered was amazing, from the scallop to the steak. But the duck confit deserves its own spotlight. The meat was tender, moist, and not at all greasy. The skin was crispy, adding that perfect savory crunch. Each bite was rich but balanced, and you could tell the quality and care that went into every step of its preparation. But the true highlight for me was the dessert. Not only was it stunningly plated, but it tasted even better than it looked. Layers of texture and flavor that played together beautifully. I still miss that exact taste of jasmine tea and yogurt crémeux. Every single dish we ordered was memorable in its own way. Toqué! isn't a cheap meal, but it's one of those rare experiences that's worth the money for all the senses, imo. Easily one of the best culinary experiences we've had in Montreal.

Went there for my birthday yesterday and it was an incredible experience!!! We tried the tasting menu with the wine pairing, definitely a game changer flavor wise. It really felt well thought out and very balanced! Our waiter Gary was the best! Very attentive and warm and even laughed at my bad jokes haha and having a good service like that does make difference in my eyes as a client, so thank you! :) Overall I recommend this place if you are open to discover new flavors with a classy touch! Will be back for sure, can’t wait

I visited this restaurant and tried their seven-course tasting menu, hoping to be amazed by their seasonal dishes. Unfortunately, I was disappointed and didn’t notice the fall season ingredients. The presentation was good, but the serving sizes were a bit small. The service was amazing, and the staff were very approachable. The atmosphere was lively and enjoyable.

Absolutely amazing! The service was exemplary. Simon was gracious, attentive and accommodating. The sommelier was knowledgeable and willing to discuss wine choices. The maitre d'hotel was aware of everything that was happening. The food was a gastronomic delight. The wine pairings, close to perfect. This was a once in a lifetime experience.

Went to Toqué and had a great experience. The staff was very accommodating, especially with one of our guests who is vegan, and they offered thoughtful and satisfying options. The menu is described as Québécois, but we weren’t quite sure what specifically made it feel that way—it came across more like classic upscale French cuisine. Still, the service was excellent and we left very happy.

The food and wine pairing was absolutely fantastic. I had read some concerns about the sauses being bland, but I found them to be perfectlry balanced. They complemented the naural flavors of the ingredients without overpoering them. The dishes were refined and delicate, and both the service and ambiance exceed my expections.

French restaurant
L'Express is an iconic Parisian-style bistro located in Montreal, offering a chic ambiance with checkered floors and a bar. The restaurant presents a blend of French and American influences, featuring fast food options alongside some of the best French dining experiences. With its monochrome tiles, white tablecloths, and extensive wine cellars, L'Express exudes classic French charm.
Been meaning to visit this amazing restaurant for sometime now. Finally got the opportunity last night. The quality of their food and service was amazing. The place was packed at 8:30 in the evening, this is a testament of how great this place is. We ordered the bone Marrow and vegetable soup with appetizers. My wife got the ravioli, and I got the duck confit. And both were delicious. My duck was fall off the bone and was really juicy and tender. They probably have over 100 options of wine. We went with the 2020 Pinot noir Au Bon Climat from California. The wine was fruity and really light. It paired well with both the ravioli and the duck confit. The service was remarkable, we went with our toddler, daughter and they made sure that we were comfortable. You need to reserve a table before you show up. I would recommend this restaurant.

Honestly, everything just tasted very average and I don’t know why this restaurant is so highly rated. Steak tartare is not bad, but nothing special, the veal kidney I personally feel has too much kidney smell, and duck confit was alright. I guess the enormous pickles were good, and people seem to rave about this the most online.

Need reservation. Decor is like a classic French restaurant. Quite noisy but doesn’t bother me. Be polite to them and service staff will treat you better. First time here, we ordered: Fish soup - very flavourful with Clam and fish, rich in Umami taste. This is a personal preference, with that rich umami taste, it would taste more better if u add abit of salt if u feel the soup tasted not salty but abit off. I loved the soup a lot more after added abit of salt😛. Thats me, use as your own risk! 🤭 Homemade Ravioli, must try in my opinion, the sauce is soooooo flavourful!! Reminds me of a rich Demi Glacé sauce! Quail - nicely roasted and juicy meat and very flavourful! The sauce for both dishes are very quite , taste similar but fit well with the dish! Yum! Dessert wise, it’s good but doesn’t “wow” like the Quail and Ravioli. A solid 5 stars experience

The food was phenomenal. It was my first time having duck confit and it was amazing. It melted in your mouth and the skin was crispy. My husband had the Cornish hen and that was also amazing. The hen was not gamey and the sauce complimented the hen so well. Our favorite dish was the dessert—caramel island as it was translated in English. It was a meringue topped with a caramel dome, surrounded by cream and almond bark. Each component of the dessert complimented each other so well and it was perfectly balanced. This is definitely a dessert that haunts me. Amazing and friendly service & delicious drinks and food. I highly recommend!

Really good experience. We went here for our fige year anniversary and had a lovely time. The waitstaff were helpful guiding my choices due to my gluten allergy. Happy to report no sickness or cross contamination. The salmon was great and we split a creme brulee. I recommend getting a reservation here if you're coming to the city.

I have never been to a restaraunt that has provided Table Pickels, but i need more of this in my life. Food felt authentic and was fantastic throughout. Service was great as well. Highly recomend if youre in Montreal.

Most authentic french dining in Montreal! Perfect food, attention to detail, outstanding service. Fair pricing. Great Wine selection. All day Menu. Bar seating for solo dinners. My go to for french dining in the city!

A lovely restaurant with great French atmosphere. The meal was great from bread to creme brulee. In particular, the octopus was cooked perfectly and was tender; the duck confit was paired beautifully with a nice fragrant sauce; the caramelized sugar on the creme brulee complemented the custard. Service was right on time and kind.

Joe Beef is a renowned restaurant and bar in Montreal, known for its compact, old-school setting and relaxed atmosphere. The menu features over-the-top dishes like lobster spaghetti and a Canadian Nanaimo bar with foie gras, as well as traditional Quebecois classics like fiddlehead carbonara. The expansive wine list adds to the appeal of spending an entire evening here. If you can't get a reservation, their sister restaurants nearby offer great alternatives.
My experience at Joe Beef was amazing. I loved the restaurant’s atmosphere and design, it felt very special. The food was also excellent, and the service was top-notch. They changed the plates and cutlery after every course, which made the dining experience feel very refined. The waitress was attentive, but her attitude was a bit sharp and strict at times. While she was still polite, it didn’t feel very comfortable to change my mind or ask for something different. The menu is designed as a full dining experience, with starter, appetizer, main course, and dessert all expected. I ordered a whole steak, which was fantastic, although I didn’t really enjoy the potato that came with it. Still, everything else was amazing. The overall experience was definitely pricey, but worth it. I would absolutely come back. Thank you

We have been looking forward to eating here for ten years and we finally made it! It did not disappoint. Our server was fantastic! A very jovial bearded man, who’s name I never got - he honestly made our experience! He suggested a special off menu wine which was fabulous. We had our 3 kids with us and nothing was too much trouble for them to prepare for them, the picky eaters that they are. We sat in the garden and the ambiance was amazing. We will remember this night for many years to come, and we hope to be back next year for another fabulous experience. Thank you to everyone who made our night so great.. 10/10 recommend 💜

Joe Beef has a solid reputation and I can see why people like it, but it didn't blow me away. The space itself is lovely. Dim lighting, vintage touches, and that classic Montreal bistro charm make it a cozy, intimate atmosphere that's easy to settle into. We ordered: • Oysters • Escargot • Hanger steak: this was the highlight. It was cooked to a perfect medium rare, tender and their peppercorn sauce tied everything together nicely. Service was genuinely excellent. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience feel relaxed. It's a good spot with great service and a nice vibe. The food was decent. I'd come back for sure but it's definitely not a must-visit. But if you're in the area and curious, it's still worth checking out.

As soon as I knew I would be visiting Montreal, i grabbed a spot on the wait list in case a reservation opened up. I was so happy when the day before our trip, a spot opened up. We really enjoyed the tuna appetizer. We also had the Escargot which were good, but not as good as some I have had. For entrees we tried the Lobster Spaghetti which is a dish they are known for, and the Hanger steak. The Hanger Steak was cooked perfectly, tender and the sauce was excellent. I am from a Seafood town and felt the lobster was only okay and the Spaghetti itself very basic, not our favorite dish. All in all it is definitley worth a try.

After a lifetime of wanting to try this restaurant, it did not disappoint. We came in open to trying everything, and our amazing waitress, Thalia, took the wheel. She selected every course to truly represent the restaurant, its vibe, and the depth of the cuisine — and she nailed it. I highly recommend dining here, requesting to sit in her section, and trusting her recommendations. Phenomenal experience. Thank you, Thalia!

Attentive service and incredible food. We were very nervous about bringing our toddler but the staff went out of their way to accommodate us. Would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for upscale comfort. Make sure to book a reservation as they were turning people away all night on a Wednesday

Had a great experience with Joe B. Zero complaints. A++ 1) The entire waitstaff were all lovely. Service was great! I sat at the oyster bar in a “newer” side of the establishment. Kind of felt like I was in a historical bar with a bunch of old seaside decor. Had to bust out the readers as it’s a dark/intimate setting. Homey feel for sure. 2) Each time a course was dropped off, the server explained what they were dropping off in detail. It was a breath of fresh air to have that explanation even though you knew what you ordered. I loved that part!! Started with the special of the night which was oyster casino . Nice touch - cooked and presented well. Next was the foie gras double. So rich but well worth it. Just don’t order any other appetizer, or you’ll ruin your main course! Filet had great flavor with its funghi reduction. I prob would have enjoyed it more had I not stuffed my face. **plated on warm plate to keep the nice mushroom crème sauce to stay nice, warm and silky smooth. 3) The guys behind the oyster bar went out of their way to show me how to open and prepare an oyster! (I ordered 100 oystered to be delivered and said I was trying taking notes)

For the amount of hype Joe Beef gets I was worried it might not live up to expectations. The starters were good but not great, except for the oysters. Perfectly shucked and nice and plump. However the mains really kicked things up a notch. My hanger steak was perfectly cooked and served in quite possibly the best, most rich, decadent sauce I've ever tasted. Then came desert. We tried their signature 20 layer cake and the choux pastry. The latter of which I still think about 4 months later. Easily a top 3 desert dish I've tasted. Service was very good and staff was attentive. Our server was so great, funny and personable. Also knew the menu inside and out. Definitely recommend if you are in Montreal. not sure if it entirely lives up to its reputation but a damn good meal nonetheless.

Syrian restaurant
Damas is a restaurant in Montreal that offers creative Syrian delicacies in a Persian-influenced setting with a plant-trimmed terrace. The restaurant is known for its elaborate 10-course tasting menus and an extensive wine cellar. The menu goes beyond simple kebabs and mezze, featuring dishes like beet mutabbal, pistachio fried kibbeh, and moujaddara.
Went for my birthday and it was a superb experience. Highly recommend the tasting menu, it’s very generous and it makes you taste a little bit of everything! Service was great, our waiter was super kind and knowledgeable and the bussers always kept our water glasses full and cleaned our table between each plate. Excellent cocktails too!

Service was just sooooo slow maaaan. We waited 2 hours to finish receiving all of the plates we had ordered. We were so full by the last 2 plates because we had waited so long and we tried to cancel the order but they had finished cooking by the time the order was cancelled. Waiter was also missing personality, food was okkk. Not worth the wait but would have probably been better if it was ready on time.

You’ll read a lot of mixed opinions about this restaurant, but honestly—aside from the price—don’t pay attention to the noise. This is a high-end restaurant, and the quality and execution of the food are truly unique. I’ve tried many Lebanese and Syrian restaurants, and to this day, nothing beats Damas. The food is outstanding; it’s one of the best restaurants in Montreal. The fact that reservations are so hard to get isn’t hype—people genuinely love the food here. If you’re wondering what to wear, opt for something nice and elegant. I’ve been there on Mondays and even then you’ll see corporate guests in suits and ties. For first-timers, I highly recommend the tasting menu. You get a little bit of everything, and it’s very filling. I’ve tried almost the entire menu, and honestly, every single dish is excellent. Street parking is available, but there’s no valet.

beautiful syrian restaurant with excellent service! we took the omnivore and pescatarian tasting menu. it was very filling and delicious but nothing extraordinary from the flavors (maybe to someone who is not at all familiar to this palette tho!). a lot of the dishes were lacking salt and one was heavily oversalted. i would recommend this restaurant but not necessarily the tasting menu. my favorite drink was the aleppo sour and my favorite dish - very simple but delicious - the fattouch salad. thank you for the fun birthday experience!

Food here was very tasty but definitely on the pricey side. Whether it’s worth the money is entirely up to the individual. I found the food and service to be pleasing. Nothing disappointed me and the restaurant had a very clean environment which I appreciate. Everything tasted good but nothing really blew us away. It was simply just good eats. We spent about $85-90 per person (no alcohol) with a group of 4. Can you get more food for a quarter of the price elsewhere, yes… but if you’re in the mood for a nice, cozy evening with close friends, you can’t go wrong here.

Honestly I really dislike brunch, especially pre-fixe menus since I feel like most restaurants phone it in and treat brunch meals like an industrial assembly line. But Damas was extraordinary. All the dishes were unique yet comforting, but visually striking. The staff was also warm and endearing, even though we had a young g child, they were super hospitable. Would love to come back with out of town folks, old friends and family, so they can enjoy the ambiance and the food.

Excellent restaurant! Food and service was spectacular!! Place was jammed for a Wednesday night and there was an amazing vibe happening! All in all loved the place and will absolutely return! When in Montreal it’s a must to stop in. We were a group and everyone really enjoyed it! It’s an experience going there and hence why I’d return!

Exeptional, but too much quantity. We went with the tasting menu, which was delicious from start to finish, however it was too much. We ended up feeling "full" to the point of not enjoying the last meals/desserts. Your mileage may varry, but I'd say we're "good eaters" and are generally used to north american meal sizes. But here sadly, it was too much. And we were left wondering if it was worth paying that much (660$ taxes & tips included for 2) for a exeptional menu, that we ended up not appreciating around its end. So, I would recommend going with "a la carte" items or a more classic menu, rather than the tasting menu. Otherwise, everything was exeptional.
