Historical landmark
Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal, dating back to 1824, is a magnificent church renowned for its vibrant stained glass and as a venue for concert performances. The neo-Gothic interiors have been transformed into a 21st-century digital spectacle through the Aura show by Moment Factory. This multimedia studio has projected colorful rays and images onto the arches, columns, altar, and vaulted ceiling, creating an awe-inspiring experience.
Unforgettable Experience at Montreal Notre-Dame Basilica. Even if you're not religious, the AURA light show at Montreal’s Notre-Dame Basilica is absolutely worth seeing. The basilica itself is stunning, with its deep blue ceiling and intricate Gothic architecture. But the real highlight is the AURA show—an immersive blend of music, lights, and storytelling that brings the space to life. The story is easy to follow and beautifully presented. Outside, the square is full of energy with street performers and local charm. Inside, it’s pure magic. Highly recommend this to anyone visiting Montreal!

Visiting the Notre-Dame Basilica in Old Montreal was already high on our list, but the AURA light show elevated the experience into something truly unforgettable. From the moment we stepped inside, the neo-Gothic architecture wrapped us in a sense of awe—towering columns, intricate woodwork, and stained glass that seemed to whisper centuries of history. Then came AURA. The show begins with a self-guided walk through the Basilica, where subtle lighting and ambient sound bring the art and architecture to life. It’s like the building itself is breathing. And then, the main event: a 20-minute multimedia spectacle that transforms the Basilica’s interior into a canvas of light, color, and sound. The projections danced across the vaulted ceilings and ornate altar, synchronized perfectly with a dramatic musical score. At times, it felt like we were inside a living painting—one moment evoking the serenity of nature, the next pulsing with cosmic energy. The use of lasers and animation was tasteful and powerful, never overwhelming, and always respectful of the sacred space. 🎶 The Casavant organ’s deep tones added a majestic layer to the experience, and the transitions between scenes were seamless. Whether you're spiritual or simply appreciate art and architecture, AURA is a must-see. It’s not just a show—it’s a celebration of light, history, and imagination. Highly recommend catching an evening performance to feel the full impact. We left with goosebumps and a renewed appreciation for how technology can enhance—not replace—human creativity.

It is not big and will not take much time to check out all unless you want to pray. I did not see the light show though, but its stunning architecture, intricate interior design, and historical significance amazed me. With the interior along with seeing people talk in low voices, made it feel like a sacred place to sit and think quietly. For me, it is one of the most amazing experiences one can have.
Zahida I — Google review
It was our first experience attending an aura show in a church, and it was truly wonderful. The church is huge, very old, and beautifully maintained. Even though the place was full for the show, the well-organized staff made everything easy and comfortable. The show lasted about 25 minutes, which felt just right. The sound system and lighting were of excellent quality, creating a perfect atmosphere for the performance. Note that photos and videos are not allowed during the show. Parking can be a bit tricky, so it’s best to find a paid parking spot nearby and arrive early to get a good seat in the middle section. Overall, a great experience and definitely recommended!

Tall and imposing with its towering external profile and breathtaking with its impressive interiors, the Notre Dame is a must visit for any visit to Montreal. While I've heard decent things about the Notre Dame prior to my visit, nothing beats the experience of seeing it's magnificent interiors up close; being able to sit in peace while appreciating the surroundings was a deeply calming experience. I had visited on a weekday afternoon and there was a short 2-3 minute queue for the tickets which was fairly efficient.
Ziyuan W — Google review
I’ve seen many churches in Europe and in North America while on vacation, but this one is unique IMHO with its modern internal design, artistically crafted doors, and unique stained glass windows. Even though it is high on the mountain side, it is also very accessible with elevators and escalators. Plus it has an impressive pipe organ with amazing views of the surrounding area (St Lawrence River, McGill university, sunset, etc)
Luis V — Google review
Finally able to go inside and it was worth it. Payment is best done online although they sell tickets there too via credit card only. No cash. Everything inside was beautiful. There's also a dedicated prayer booth on the right. Toilet available.
Greggy C — Google review
It was a wonderful experience visiting this church. It made me feel truly amazed. Learning about its history made it even more meaningful. Although part of the building is under renovation, every corner of the church is full of beautiful and intricate details. Even though there were a lot of people inside, most were very respectful. However, I did notice one or two people trying to take photos inside the prayer room, which was disappointing. I think it would be helpful if someone could guide visitors near the prayer area to remind them to be quiet and respectful. After I finished praying, people continued to take photos and talk, which made me feel a bit upset. Overall, it was an incredible experience to visit such a stunning and historic building in Montreal. I would definitely recommend it to everyone.

Olympic Stadium, also known as "The Big O," is a multi-purpose stadium in Montreal that was originally built for the 1976 Summer Olympics. Designed by French architect Roger Taillibert, it features a towering inclined tower, making it one of the world's tallest leaning towers. This iconic landmark is celebrated for its innovative architecture and serves as a symbol of Montreal's ambitions and creative prowess.
Great location for all kinds of family and adult activities from the gym and Olympic pool, to the botanical gardens across the stress or the Biodôme or event some skateboarding. I am lucky enough to also have work in the tower - SIGMA-RH. Stunning views from the office!!!

As of August it’s currently through massive reconstruction. I’d recommend planning any visit after it’s done. There are some interesting things to experience while there but not too much to warrant a must see.
Bruno M — Google review
This is a pretty nice spot in Montreal to brush up on your Olympic history. We did not head inside this time as we were headed out of town, but it appears they are working to upkeep the facilities.
Nicholas S — Google review
Went to see legendary Metallica, I think the place is too big so the sound wasn’t the best although I did enjoy the whole concert and was easy to get in. Very organized food was ok and drinks too not pricey at all.
Marco H — Google review
Nice to visit the site where the 1976 summer Olympic’s took place. There is a guided tour, but we didn’t take it. We went inside the building where all the swimming events took place. You can sit in the stands and watch whatever swimming or diving activities are taking place. It’s a 20-30 minute drive from downtown Montreal and we spent 1.5 hours walking around the site. Paid parking is available onsite and there’s only a daily rate. Although there’s not a whole lot to do there, I’m glad I visited this historic Canadian site.
David S — Google review
This place gets a 4-star rating because I do love the grounds and the overall vibe of the stadium. It was a great construction project back in the 70s, but we've been fixing it since then, thus the removal of a star. Nonetheless, it's a place to see.

Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal is a grand Catholic church located on the south side of Montreal's namesake mountain. It features a magnificent dome, an art museum, beautiful gardens, and organ concerts. The basilica has a rich history dating back to 1904 when a small chapel was built by Andre Bessette, known for his miracle cures attributed to Saint Joseph.
Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal is a truly breathtaking and spiritual place to visit. The architecture is stunning, with its majestic dome visible from all around Montreal, and the interior is peaceful, welcoming, and filled with history. The gardens and surrounding grounds are beautifully maintained, offering a perfect place for reflection and quiet walks. Whether you visit for faith, culture, or simply to admire the beauty, this site is a must-see landmark in Montreal. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the city!
Negaresh N — Google review
A must-visit if you are spending a weekend in Montreal! This is the largest oratory in Canada, and the sunset views from here are absolutely mesmerizing. The new infrastructure is very thoughtfully designed, with lifts and escalators that make it accessible for seniors and people with disabilities. Don’t miss exploring the chambers below the main hall or the serene garden behind the dome and the best part is, it’s completely free to visit. Oh and the gift shop has one of the best variety of religious souvenirs with reasonable price
Onurag — Google review
Without a doubt a must visit when you're in Montreal. Admittedly it's a little more troublesome to get to as compared to the attractions downtown, but you're bound to be impressed by the sheer scale of the Oratory and the vastness of the neighbouring expanse. There's definitely a bit of a climb up to the Oratory proper, but it's definitely worth the effor. You'll get to see the interiors and treat yourself to a great view of the northern part of the city.
Ziyuan W — Google review
The architecture left me absolutely awestruck! Every detail of St. Joseph’s Oratory radiates peace, devotion, and grandeur. The sweeping views, the stunning basilica, and the calm, spiritual atmosphere make it a truly breathtaking place to visit. Whether you go for prayer, reflection, or simply to admire its beauty, this place leaves a lasting impression on the heart.
Valora D — Google review
Beautiful and peaceful spot in Montreal! ✨ The basilica is stunning, the views from the top are amazing, and the gardens are perfect for a relaxing walk. Definitely worth a visit! ⛪️

We didn’t know what to expect when people told us about this church - impressive. Another example of what humans can do together. Is a must when you visit Montreal, with an impressive architecture and presence. The church is modern inside and I liked the light passing the windows. Allocate around 90 min to visit all floors and enjoy the spiritual moment and the view
George D — Google review
The Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal (L'Oratoire Saint-Joseph-du-Mont-Royal) is an extremely prominent and impressive religious landmark, making it one of the most important tourist attractions in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is Canada's largest church and a National Shrine. The church features one of the world's largest church domes, rising 97 meters (from the basilica floor) and standing as the highest point in Montreal. The shrine was founded in 1904 by Saint André Bessette (or Brother André)—a member of the Congregation of the Holy Cross. Brother André started the sanctuary with a small wooden chapel. Thanks to his reputation for healing (which he always attributed to Saint Joseph), the site attracted huge numbers of pilgrims. The large complex seen today began construction in 1922 and was completed in 1967.
Nhu N — Google review
An impressive basilica where you can easily spend at least half an hour to an hour. There’s no entrance fee, and the interior holds many fascinating stories to explore. It’s also a great spot to enjoy the sunset. Highly recommended if you’re visiting Montreal!

Apartment building
Historical place museum
Habitat 67 is a remarkable housing complex located near the river in Montreal's Old Port. Designed by architect Moshe Safdie for Expo 67, it features stacked box-like structures that have become an influential architectural landmark. The building offers a unique and distinct appearance with interconnected walkways and forms. While some consider it one of Canada's most distinctive architectural landmarks, others have labeled it as one of the top 10 ugliest buildings in North America.
The tour of Habitat 67 was both fun and informative! Fanny did a fantastic job sharing the history and architectural significance of this iconic site. She and Jacob were attentive not only to the group’s curiosity but also to the importance of being respectful toward current residents and the structure itself. Both went above and beyond to make the experience memorable. I highly recommend this tour to anyone considering a visit. It’s absolutely worth the trip to see a close inside look. Plus, it’s an easy and safe bike ride from the port!
Nancy P — Google review
This is Habitat 67 — a first-class piece of architecture that looks like Jenga blocks were designed by Dr. Seuss’s even more maniacal brother. People actually live here, though I don’t know how they find their apartments. A living room could be attached to someone else’s front door. It’s also one of the three things to do in Montreal (not really kidding), so you owe yourself and your weird friend a scenic stop. Skyline, river views, and the fever-dream design make it a worthwhile experience.
Durell B — Google review
Its an interesting set of buildings. Good for a click and move on visit. Fascinating architecture but there is nothing there. Private property. No food. No coffee. If you walk here you will have to uber somewhere else from here. Guess if you don't do a tour its a come oh cool, ok now what place.
V P — Google review
Didn't end up doing the tour due to a time constraint but it's nonetheless a really good touch and go location to visit. Aside from the very intriguing architecture itself, there's also really good views of Montreal downtown and a pretty neat walking path across the bridge to Parc Jean Drapeau
Ziyuan W — Google review
The English-speaking tour was VERY informative.. if you enjoy architecture then this tour is highly recommended..! You get to tour the architect's suite as part of the tour. The closest metro station is a 30 minute walk and there is bus service that stops here, too.
Ryan S — Google review
Didn't get to do the tour, and you can't step on the grounds without being invited, but it was still worth seeing from afar.

Walking tour: I took the walking of this is an icon building, that I have wanted to visit for over fifty years, and it did not disappoint. From the day it opened, this complex has been an inspiration for it novels modular style of construction and the uniqueness of the open design.
Raymond H — Google review
A lot has already been said about this architectural landmark of Montreal. I believe this place is worth visiting. Different guides tell different stories about the place and the Expo 67 itself and about the architect Moshe Safdie. It's sometimes interesting to go back in time and to see / learn how everything was back then. The tour fee for 2 adults this July was around $100. There are 4 tours per day: 2 English and 2 French. We booked our spots online on the Habitat 67 website. However, during our tour, there were people who joined our group right before the beginning, and from what it looked like, the tour for them was free. The free parking is steps away from the building, but it's not easy to find a spot, as usually the parking is full. The tour is 90 min long, so be ready to walk a lot. There are benches on the premises, where it is also possible to sit and have some rest, but it won't be that simple to find the group if they go without you, as the building resembles a maze. Overall, it was a good experience. I would recommend it to my friends.

Museums
Nestled in the heart of Montreal, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts stands as a testament to artistic expression and cultural heritage. Established in 1860, it proudly holds the title of Canada’s oldest art museum and is a prominent institution in North America. The museum boasts an impressive collection that spans over 41,000 pieces from various eras and regions, showcasing everything from ancient artifacts to contemporary masterpieces.
If you’re under 25, you get in for free! I only discovered this a month before my birthday—better late than never, right? Maybe someone else will appreciate the heads-up 🤭 One thing I love about this museum is how many quiet corners there are where you can soak in the city views. I come here not just for the art, but to let it inspire me — along with the beautiful panoramas. There’s something about this place that feeds both the mind and the soul.
Анна К — Google review
Huge gallery with multiple buildings and rooms within them . A fantastic range of artistic styles, blending modern and contemporary with older pieces, often making connections stylistically between them. New design wing particularly good at this imo. You need hours to see it all.
David R — Google review
The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) is a truly wonderful experience and easily one of the best places to spend a full day in the city. Since it’s spread across five pavilions, it feels massive without being overwhelming, offering something for every taste—from Canadian masterworks to international contemporary pieces, plus stunning decorative arts. The entire complex is beautiful, blending historic Beaux-Arts architecture with sleek modern extensions, and the collection is so diverse you can dive deep into anything from Rodin to Inuit art. You could easily lose three to four hours wandering through the themed pavilions, finding quiet corners to enjoy the amazing curation. It's an inspiring and enriching way to spend your time in Montreal!

Extensive and varied collection across two main buildings connected by underground passageway. Current featured exhibit by Kent Monkman is a must-see. Expensive admission ($31) but no extra charge for special exhibits. Good accessibility. Highly recommended.

The museum is absolutely stunning. The architecture alone is worth the visit - the buildings are beautiful, blending historic charm with modern design. The collections are diverse and thoughtful curated with something for everyone. It’s a place where you can easily spend hours exploring. Definitely a must see if you’re in Montreal - whether you’re an art lover or just looking for a meaningful and inspiring experience.

On the first Sunday of every month, admission is free. Online booking allows for quick entry. Most of the exhibits are from collectors' collections, with rich content but themes that are not very unified. When I went, I saw works by Picasso, Monet, Miró, Rodin, and others, but not many. The museum's architecture and scenery are beautiful.

So many different levels and exhibits. Beautiful variety and so much to do make sure to alot yourself lots of time and breaks. There is something for every form of art lover and pieces to tickle your senses and emotions. So lovely that they have NO fee for those under 25 🫶🏼❤️ Amazing to support the arts In young minds. Bonus complementary coat check .My only critique would be that signage or flow be easier to navigate between buildings and levels for (English)

This fine art museum is a must-visit if you’re in Montreal! I loved the wide variety of art on display, from classic European paintings to contemporary installations, thought provoking sculptures, and beautiful Indigenous Canadian works. They also have a fascinating collection of ancient artifacts that really help you imagine the everyday life of people in the ancient world. The admission fee is fair, and they provide free coat check, which is super convenient. While you can’t bring water bottles into the gallery, there are water stations available throughout the museum to keep you hydrated. Another highlight is the gift shop, perfect for browsing after your visit. They offer a lovely selection of postcards, art prints, books, and unique souvenirs that are great for tourists or gifts for friends. We really enjoyed taking a piece of the museum home with us.

Catholic church
Nestled in the vibrant heart of Montreal, Quebec, the Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral is a breathtaking testament to 19th-century architecture and Catholic heritage. Modeled after St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, this grand cathedral showcases a neoclassical design that reflects its religious significance while steering clear of Gothic Revival styles associated with Protestantism. Following the destruction of St-Jacques Cathedral by fire in 1852, architects crafted this magnificent structure as a symbol of faith and cultural richness.
Entrance is free!! Mary Queen of the World Cathedral is a beautiful Catholic temple in the heart of downtown montreal. It's a scaled down replica of the St. Peter's Cathedral in the Vatican. Visit the interior and be treated with a beautiful display of religious interior design and historical paintings. Now I'm no religious person but I often find myself visiting this temple. Beautiful church, one of my favourite churches in Montreal. The architecture is just beautiful, and I also love to come to celebrate the Holy Mass here. I believe most of the masses are held in French. Confession is mostly in French too. I love the priests from this church too. The gift shop is also nice. PLEASE, If you’re not Catholic and visiting , respect this holy place. Do not enter wearing immodest clothes… you wouldn’t complain in a temple of a different religion would request you the same.

A Masterpiece of Art and History in the Heart of Montreal Walking into the Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral is an absolutely breathtaking experience. The sheer scale and magnificence of its architecture are awe-inspiring. Modelled after St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, this cathedral is a stunning example of Renaissance revival architecture, and its grand dome, intricate baldachin over the altar, and beautiful paintings depicting Montreal's history immediately transport you to another era. The craftsmanship and attention to detail are simply fantastic. What makes this place so special is not just its beauty, but the rich history behind it. It stands as a powerful symbol of Montreal's past, and you can feel the weight of that history as you walk through its vast nave. Even if you are not a follower of this religion, I highly recommend visiting this cathedral. It is more than a place of worship; it's a living museum and a masterpiece of art. To stand inside and admire the soaring ceilings, the stunning artwork, and the incredible architectural feats is an unforgettable experience for anyone who appreciates culture, history, and human creativity. It is truly a jewel in Montreal's crown and a destination that should not be missed.

Mary, the Queen of the World Cathedral, has an impressive architecture and stands in downtown Montreal. It is built in the form of a cross and has very beautiful artwork in the interior section. It was completed in 1894 and is the third largest cathedral in Quebec. It can be visited every day and the staff at the entrance are very helpful with providing information about the cathedral. Consider that it is still an active place of worship, where people come to prayer and give solace. Being a pure tourist and acting like one when visiting may disturb those who are praying unintentionally. It is a good idea to be mindful of our behaviour when visiting the cathedral.

We visited on Wednesday during the day and the security person was very friendly and welcoming when we arrived. There is no fee to enter and easy to walk around and enjoy the features of the lovely church.

Absolutely beautiful Catholic cathedral. If you're looking for Sunday mass celebrated in English, you've found it! Even if you're not looking for mass, stop here anyway. The architecture, a nod to St Peter's Basilica, dedication to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and veneration to the saints is well worth the visit.

Definitely one of the best, if not the best, grandest, and beautiful churches in Montreal. The interior is magnificent and awesome inspiring. The organ was also very cool. If you are in the area, this church is a must.

For a peaceful retreat in Montreal, this stunning architectural marvel is a must-visit. Its beauty is unmatched, and the best part? Admission is free! Unlike Notre Dame Cathedral, you can enjoy the same sense of serenity and grandeur without the cost. Plus, its convenient location allows for easy walks to Dorchester Square or Saint Catherine Street, making it an ideal spot to unwind and explore.

Parc Jean-Drapeau is a sprawling park located on two islands, Ile Sainte-Helene and Ile Notre-Dame, in the heart of the St. Lawrence River in Montreal. The park has a rich history dating back to the 1967 International and Universal Exposition, also known as Expo 67. This event left behind numerous attractions and landmarks that continue to draw visitors today.
This park is AWESOME! When you leave the station, there’s the main area where the globe is located. This area has well-maintained washrooms, a restaurant, a nice sculpture, and also a scooter station. I highly recommend you download the “Lime” app to rent a scooter. I explored part of the park by riding it around and it was super fun! I also recommend you put your gloves on if you’re riding a scooter during the fall/winter season as the wind will certainly make your hands uncomfortable. Apart from the main area, the park has also a beautiful path alongside the lake which is incredible! This path has some benches facing the lake making it the perfect place to relax while admiring the beautiful view. After exploring this side of the park, you can walk to the opposite side of it, crossing the bridge. Keep walking and cross the Formula 1 Circuit (Circuit Gilles Villeneuve) and you’ll be able to enjoy another beautiful path in nature. While strolling around this area I kept wondering how nice it must look in summer/ early fall/ winter (with snow). Anyway, I highly recommend it and I am already looking forward to going back!

It's easily accessible to public transportation metro/bus. You will find the beautiful scenery ✨️ colorful trees (sep/oct) and an old fort/Minar. Walking through the forest is amazing 👏 You must plan at least 6 hrs to spend over there to covering the entire park.

One of the most beautiful park located in the heart of the city. Easily accessible via metro and bus routes. There are several cool activities during the summer as well as in winter for everyone. Huge picnic area with tables. Cityscape also looks great from there and amazing place for the nature walk and photography.

It's such a beautiful place. There's so much to see. The flowers are beautiful. There's also this enormous blue chair that's really cool. I absolutely enjoyed going there and intend to go back soon.

McGill University is one of the top universities in Canada and the world. It’s also one of the few English-language institutions in the city of Montreal. Conveniently located in the heart of downtown, right next to McGill Metro station, the campus is easily accessible. The university has a charming, historic feel, with many buildings dating back to the 19th century, surrounded by green lawns and trees. The quality of education is excellent — McGill graduates are well-prepared and often find jobs quickly after graduation.

I am a current undergraduate student at the University of Toronto, St. George Campus. When I was younger, McGill was always my dream university. For me it was either McGill or U of T, and although I ended up at U of T, I have always admired McGill. I did not apply because I live in Ontario and as an only child my parents were worried about me being too far from home, which is very normal and something I completely understand. This summer I had the chance to visit McGill again while on vacation in Montreal, and it truly is one of the most beautiful campuses in Canada. McGill was founded in 1821 and named after James McGill, a Scottish merchant whose endowment made the university possible. Since then, it has grown into one of the most respected universities in the world, with Nobel Prize winners, groundbreaking research, and an incredible reputation in medicine, law, and science. The campus is in such a unique location, right at the base of Mount Royal, which gives it both a historic and lively atmosphere. The old stone buildings are surrounded by green spaces, and you really feel like you are in the heart of Montreal. When I visited, it happened to be move-in day and they were also setting up for OAP, the Open Air Pub. I have seen so many videos of OAP before, but seeing it in person felt so exciting. There was such a positive energy on campus and you could tell students here are proud of their school. I also noticed that people at McGill have a great sense of style. Everyone looked effortlessly put together and it really added to the atmosphere of the campus. Something else that stood out to me is the slope leading up to Mount Royal. Walking up there was no joke, I was out of breath and it felt like a workout on its own. It made me think about what it must be like to have classes up that hill every day, and in a way it is great for athleticism since students are constantly exercising just by moving between buildings. One of my high school teachers once told me that when they studied at McGill, students would take cafeteria trays in the winter and slide down the hill for fun. Imagining that made me smile because it shows how students not only study hard but also find creative ways to enjoy the campus and city. McGill seems to balance academics with a really strong sense of community and social life, and I find that inspiring. As a U of T student I sometimes wish we had more of that same social spirit, but it is also motivating to see what McGill offers. I am entering my last year at U of T now, but I am definitely interested in applying to McGill for my master’s. Based on my experiences and everything I saw, I can confidently say McGill is one of the most beautiful, vibrant, and prestigious universities not only in Canada but in the world. 🎓📚

What I like about McGill: A) There is many restaurants, food services and things to eat. B) Location is perfect as it’s close to the mountain and in downtown. C) The shuttle is useful and helpful for going to downtown and the second campus and vice versa. G) They have green spaces and hope they add more trees🌲 and plants and make it more environmentally friendly for God. What I do not like about McGill: A) Many of the views, summary and teachings don’t follow with my values and what I believe in. B) Some of the buildings were nice and some are renovated and some are nostalgic. I miss the nostalgia of the university before. It felt much better for me. Conclusion: A) I feel that it’s best to be autodidact and have faith in our lord and Savior. B) I feel that there is more we can do to help humanity and best serve our people. C) We need more open dialogue and open conservations without fear and we need to be transformed with God. May God bless you all and forgive those who don’t know the truth. Montréal city hall is one of the best examples of the Second Empire style in Canada, and the first city hall to have been constructed in the country solely for municipal administration, it was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1984. Construction on the building began in 1872 and was completed in 1878. The original building was gutted by fire in March 1922, leaving only the outer wall and destroying many of the city's historic records. The architect Louis Parant was commissioned for the reconstruction, who decided to build an entirely new building with a self-supporting steel structure built inside the shell of the ruins.

Montreal City Hall (Hôtel de Ville) is a stunning example of architecture, with its grand façade, mansard roof, and ornate detailing. Built in the 1870s, it’s one of the most beautiful civic buildings in Canada. It was also famously the site where Charles de Gaulle gave his “Vive le Québec libre!” speech in 1967. Today, it remains the seat of local government and is full of political energy.

The Montreal Biodome, originally a velodrome built for the 1976 Summer Olympics, has been transformed into an engaging indoor nature exhibit. Opened in 1992, it now houses replicas of four ecosystems: The Tropical Forest, the Laurentian Forest, the Saint-Lawrence Marine Ecosystem and the Sub-Polar Region. With over 4,000 animals to observe, visitors can easily spend a full day exploring this unique attraction.
Visiting the Montréal Biodôme was such a beautiful experience. Each section feels like stepping into a completely different world — the warm tropical forest, the calm Laurentian maple forest, and the icy penguin area were all amazing in their own way. The transitions between ecosystems are smooth and magical. I also loved how close you can get to the animals without any barriers — it feels natural, not like a zoo. ✅ Pros: Unique concept, clean and well-maintained, great for families and couples, amazing for photos. ❌ Cons: A bit crowded on weekends, and tickets could be cheaper. Inside cafeteria is bit pricey and the food options are limited. Better to bring some food. Parking is a big issue too.. Still, totally worth visiting — it’s one of those Montréal spots you can enjoy no matter the season.
Faria J — Google review
The Montréal Biodôme itself is absolutely amazing—beautifully designed, super immersive, and such a cool way to experience different ecosystems. Walking through the rainforest, then instantly being in the polar section, felt magical. The animals were well cared for, and the whole place was clean and fascinating. I could have stayed there for hours. But then… the food experience. The lady serving us was incredibly rude and dismissive. I asked a simple question about the menu and she acted like I was bothering her. She barely spoke to us, seemed annoyed the whole time, and honestly made us feel unwelcome while we were just trying to grab a bite to eat. It put a sour note on an otherwise perfect visit. So: the Biodôme itself gets 5 stars, but because of that one staff interaction, I’m docking a star. If you go, definitely enjoy the exhibits—they’re worth it—but maybe skip the food counter unless you’re okay with dealing with bad service.

We all loved it, from preschoolers to elderly. We spent the whole day (9am to 5pm). Reading reviews, it seems the site had aged and wasn’t as complete- but take the time to get a program to consult feeding times to ensure you’re not missing them. Feedings are also accompanied by an animator to explain the life of the animals. There are also pop up « touch » stations to learn more (eg feel a beaver tail, see the paws, etc). The top floor has games and interactive stations focused on « behind the scenes »; kids loved it. The basement also has a large discovery area explaining taxidermy, discovering animals sounds and skeletons, immersing in virtual whale encounter, use of microscopes, etc. The boutique/ souvenir shop (which can be visited without biodome access) has an amazing selection of gifts for kids and adults, ideal for souvenir gifts. A big shoutout to all the animators working around the site and answering all questions! We will be back!

First time visit here. This place is so small. Just 60 mins to 90 mins will be hood enough to browse through everything. I love the penguin so much! They are so cute and funny to watch! Be prepare to wear a jacket inside. It's gonna be freezing! This place also has a cafeteria to buy food. Convenience for family
Brian — Google review
We absolutely loved the Montréal Biodome. It was one of the highlights of our visit. The way they’ve recreated different ecosystems under one roof is really impressive — you get to walk through tropical rainforests, polar zones, and more, all in one visit. It’s fascinating to see the animals and birds moving around so freely in their natural-style habitats. We honestly wish we had more time to spend here because there’s so much to see and take in. It’s a great spot for families, couples, or anyone who enjoys nature and wildlife. Everything is clean, well maintained, and easy to explore. I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Montréal. If you can, plan to spend a few hours here, it’s worth every minute.

The Biodome is absolutely worth a visit! They’ve recreated four different ecosystems with unique plants, animals, and climates, making it both fun and educational. Everything was very clean, and they have elevators and restrooms which make it super convenient. I especially loved the penguins – they were so cute, I could watch them for hours! You can also take lots of beautiful pictures here. It’s definitely a place kids will love and enjoy as much as adults.
Elaheh A — Google review
A trek over 3 continents and even more ecosystems, right at the foot of the Olympic stadium. Explore the beauties and wonders of the animal world without suffering the bites of a billion mosquitoes, the disconcerting gaze of a hungry Pantera or the disturbing cuddles of the White Arctic Bear. All the ecosystems simulated at the Biodôme are bang on, despite the rubber boot clad employees showing up occasionally. Discover the underwater world of the St-Lawrence river, with its giant sturgeons, frisky salmons, and diving seagulls. Step into the humid climate of the tropical jungle without the fear of being eaten alive by a long-clawed creature. See the monkeys fooling around, the parrots taking a shot at imitating the tourists and snakes hissing at them with a psychotic stance. The subzero zone is also peculiar as the penguins are not only great divers and swimmers, but fine comedians too. Relying on their cultured silliness, they know on how to entertain the crowd and make people laugh. If you get a Puffin bird by the glass, it’s amazing to see how they just love to play and try to catch whatever you lay at that glass. When entering the Lynxes’ habitat, do your best for spotting them as their camouflage skills are almost impeccable; wish I had such talent at the office! Otters though, they just love to show off while they playfully glide on the rocky slides repeatedly. Take your time, the animals sometimes seem hidden. But with patience, you may realize many of them are just waiting to be found. As a piece of advice, do keep in mind that hunting and BBQ’s are prohibited. A pretty good vegan-based alternative is available at the restaurant Vego on the first floor. Enjoy your visit, stay alert, stay alive!

The illustrations, animations, and models are really beautiful. Since I came with kids, I couldn’t focus too much on the details, but it was still enjoyable. The building has five floors, with an observation deck on the top. One floor is for administration, another was under renovation, and there’s also a small insect theater. The collection isn’t very large, but it’s a nice place to visit with children.

Even though the Biosphère was temporarily closed for renovations during my visit, I still had the chance to appreciate its stunning exterior. The geodesic dome is simply magnificent! It stands out beautifully against the park’s green spaces and the Saint Lawrence River, making for an iconic Montreal landmark. The architectural design is truly a sight to behold, and it’s clear why this structure remains such an important part of the city’s history. I can’t wait to return when the exhibits are open to explore the environmental themes and learn more about sustainability in this incredible setting.

A visit to this geodesic masterpiece has been on my Bucket List since it was build in 1967 - and it did not disappoint. I got there just before it undergoes a multi-million dollar renovation and it will be closed for a few months. There are ecology and bio-diversity exhibits inside, but my interest is the structure. Buckminster Fuller was the inventor of the geodesic dome.

Château Ramezay - Musée et site historique de Montréal is a historical gem that was originally the personal residence of Montreal's then-governor Claude de Ramezay. It is now the oldest private historical museum in Quebec, showcasing permanent and seasonal exhibitions that highlight Montreal's rich history.
An excellent display of the history of Quebec, Montreal and the Chateau itself. There are 15 rooms with different themes, a gift shop surrounding the reception area, and free-to-access gardens in the back. Overall an awesome place to visit, even with kids!

Château Ramezy is a historical site and museum. It is right across the street from city hall, which is an amazing building! From the outside, it looks rather small, but it has a lower floor, and it is actually quite vast. Filled with all types of exhibitions detailing the history of Montréal there is an immense amount of paintings, informational placards, and fascinating artifacts to wade through. Along with all of that are audio booths that offer 5 or 6 languages of various subjects that really bring the historical stories to life. For your convenience, they also offer a coat room so that you can leisurely walk through the warm, cozy rooms unabated. I thought the exhibits were well done and I would highly recommend visiting this museum.

We stopped into this unassuming museum and were rather impressed by the amount of information and artifacts on display. Covering the 500 years of history of Montréal, Château Ramezay offered learning opportunities for adults and hands on activities for children to understand what early life in the city would have been like. It even had a little garden outback with the various types of crops they would have grown! The museum had information in multiple languages, not just French and English. Highly recommend popping by if you're at all interested in history.

An interesting history of Montréal told through artifacts focusing on the château's own story. The displays cover two floors. although I didn't make it to the last third in the basement. Sadly, some of the detailed bilingual display captions used outdated terms for the First Nations.

Mount Royal Park is a vast green space that offers a variety of attractions. It features scenic trails, a picturesque lake with boat rentals, and stunning panoramic views of the city. The park spans 185 acres and is larger than the Montreal Botanical Garden, housing an impressive collection of over 22,000 plant species and cultivars organized into thematic gardens and exhibition greenhouses.
Snow tubing at Mount Royal near Beaver Lake is an exhilarating adventure that guarantees a day packed with fun and thrills! As you race down the snowy slopes, the adrenaline rush and contagious laughter make it an experience to remember. With well-maintained runs, the activity is perfect for all ages—adventurous enough for thrill-seekers but safe and enjoyable for kids and families too. Beyond the slopes, the venue offers even more winter excitement with ice skating and skiing, and rentals are conveniently available. After working up an appetite, the on-site cafeteria is the perfect spot to refuel with delicious sandwiches, fresh bagels, and steaming hot coffee, adding a cozy touch to your adventurous day. The scenic beauty of Mount Royal in winter, combined with the reasonable prices, makes this an unbeatable choice for a day of outdoor fun. Highly recommended for anyone looking to make the most of the season!

It was my first experience with American-style parks, and it was truly unique compared to what we have in Europe. So spacious! The open landscapes and natural beauty make it a perfect spot to relax between sightseeing. Whether you’re taking a leisurely stroll, enjoying a picnic, or simply soaking in the stunning city views, Mount Royal Park is a must-visit in Montreal!
Liv B — Google review
Absolutely stunning! The park is beautiful and has such a peaceful, relaxing vibe. It’s the perfect spot to read a book, enjoy a picnic, or simply take a walk and soak in the natural surroundings. I highly recommend it! Update: I visited today (December 21) and it was beyond gorgeous! The park was blanketed in snow, creating a true winter wonderland. There’s an ice skating rink with an incredible view of the frozen lake right in front of it. There’s also a cozy building with a restaurant on the second floor, perfect for grabbing a snack or hot drink during your skating break. On the first floor, you’ll find lockers for your things and a small shop where you can rent skates. Plus, there’s a great spot near the rink for tobogganing, and it’s totally free (bring your own toboggan though). I can’t recommend this place enough, no matter the season!

Took my dog out for a walk and we were searching for a patch of grass in Montreal downtown and ended up on top of Mount Royal. It was so beautiful. Totally an unplanned hike. Thankfully carried my dog’s water bottle as always. Please carry a bottle of water if you plan to hike this. We went up via the hiking trail pathway and came down via the steps. I think that would be the easiest way to do as you might get tired going all the way up, checking all the points and then you simply have to come down via the steps. Thanks to Google map, I was able to check out every noteworthy view point on top of the mountain. I heard there is one more side to it. Perhaps, another time. Overall it was very clean and gorgeous and Montreal is lucky to have this downtown! I mean those who live there could jog here or hike everyday! There seemed to be a place on top with coffee shop and restrooms but I believe they didn’t allow dogs so we couldn’t enter. Wish Montreal as such was more dog friendly.

A great hike and a wonderful lookout! I’m not sure if I went to a different part but everyone is talking about stairs in the reviews and I didn’t encounter a single one to get to the lookout located at the chalet on the map. It’s stunning and feels like you’re far away from the city on the trail. The park is beautiful and has some cool sculptures.

Really pretty in the winter, snow covered and all! Seems to be an incredibly popular spot for families. It was around -10° when I visited, but the park was packed with families skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, etc. Fun for all ages! I did try snow tubing, but after climbing up the steps, I was absolutely exhausted. I did fall off the tube once, and the gentleman overseeing the lanes was an absolute gentleman. He helped me up and got me out safely and quickly - in multiple languages. Would love to come back to explore some more, in a time crunch, I was only able to see a couple of landmarks.

Our visit to Mount Royal Park was nothing short of spectacular! From the moment we started our walk up the mountain, we were captivated by the natural beauty surrounding us. It took just about 5-10 minutes to reach the scenic overlook, and the panoramic view of the entire city was absolutely breathtaking—definitely worth the short hike. After soaking in the views, we continued our adventure to the lake on the opposite side of the mountain, which was another pleasant 10-15 minute walk. The lush greenery and peaceful atmosphere made the journey enjoyable. Once we reached the lake, we decided to rent a paddle boat, which was such a fun and relaxing experience. For just 22 CAD, we spent a delightful 30 minutes on the water, enjoying the serene environment and the company of each other. The entire experience was both beautiful and refreshing, offering a perfect blend of nature and recreation. Whether you’re looking to take in stunning city views, enjoy a peaceful walk, or have some fun on the water, Mount Royal Park is the place to be. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Montreal!

Jean Talon Market is a must-visit culinary paradise located in the Villeray neighborhood. It is one of the largest open-air markets in North America, offering a wide variety of products such as produce, meats, cheeses, fish, and baked goods. The market features year-round stores including a gigantic cheese store, a meat shop, and a place to get Quebecoise beer and preserves.
In Montreal, the two most popular markets are Atwater and Jean-Talon. I chose Jean-Talon because it’s larger and known for having more farmers and produce vendors. The market is very easy to reach — just take the orange metro line to Jean-Talon station, and from there it’s an easy five-minute walk. While the market is open-air, most of the produce stalls are covered under a large roof, with additional shops, plant stores, and small restaurants lining the perimeter. You’ll find a colorful variety of seasonal produce — corn on the cob, berries like strawberries and blueberries, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, peaches, and apples. There are also a few seafood stands offering items like fried fish and oysters, adding even more variety. I visited on a weekend, since I’d read there are more vendors and livelier crowds, but even on a sunny Sunday it didn’t feel overwhelming. The traffic flowed well, and it was easy to browse at a relaxed pace. What I enjoyed most was simply walking around, admiring the beautiful displays of produce, and chatting with the friendly vendors. Jean-Talon Market is more than just a place to shop — it’s a slice of Montreal’s culture. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the city.

This market, located in Little Italy, was fantastic. Everything is incredibly fresh and locally sourced. You can find a wide variety of products, including meat, cheese, seafood, fruits, and vegetables. There are also ready-to-eat food options, which are perfect if you’re hungry while exploring. As a traveler, you can also pick up some unique souvenirs. I saw handmade soap and local honey which are great items to bring back home. I tried the gelato, and it was delicious! I’m already looking forward to coming back and trying another flavor next time.

Beautiful fresh produce and local maple syrup, etc! Really nice place for a stroll and to pick up some fresh vegetables. Being from out of town, we were unable to stock the fridge but 100% would love if this was somewhere we could shop daily or weekly. We were able to pick up some maple cookies, syrup and other treats for the family. Everything looked very fresh and everyone was very friendly for service.

A Vibrant Feast for the Senses – Montreal’s Must-Visit Market! If you’re looking for a true taste of Montreal, Marché Jean-Talon is the place to be! This iconic farmers market is more than just a spot to grab groceries—it’s a lively, colorful experience that captures the heart of the city. From the moment you step in, you’re greeted with the freshest local produce: crisp vegetables, ripe fruits, artisanal cheeses, and fragrant herbs. But that’s just the beginning! You’ll also find charming souvenir stalls, stunning bouquets of fresh-cut flowers, and irresistible bakeries that fill the air with the smell of freshly baked bread and pastries. The market is surprisingly spacious, so take your time—I easily spent a whole afternoon wandering through the aisles, chatting with friendly vendors, and soaking in the vibrant atmosphere. Don’t leave without stopping by the crêpe stand for a sweet or savory treat. It’s the perfect break during your exploration! Whether you’re a local doing your weekly shopping or a visitor looking for an authentic Montreal experience, Marché Jean-Talon offers something for everyone. I can’t wait to go back!
Daniel Z — Google review
This is by far the most beautiful, spacious, fresh, and clean farmers market I’ve ever been to. Honestly, it would be my #1 reason to move to Canada! It made me want to shop for fresh produce every single day just so I could cook daily meals. The variety of options was incredible—and not a single fly in sight! I tried the oyster shack, taco stand, and picked up a bag of maple candy. Everything was absolutely amazing.

Marche Jean-Talon — Fall Magic in Montreal 🍂🎃 If you’re looking for a true autumn experience in Montreal, Marché Jean-Talon is unbeatable. The market is alive with color right now — brilliant pumpkins stacked high, vibrant mums and fall flowers everywhere, cozy stalls lined with apples, squash, and seasonal produce. The air smells like crisp leaves and fresh baked bread, and every corner feels festive. And… YES… things are a little pricey compared to your local supermarket… c’est la vie! I loved walking past the playful skeletons, artful fall displays, and stands overflowing with everything you could wish for this season — from warm cider and maple treats to baskets of gourds in every shade. It’s the perfect spot to soak in Montreal’s autumn charm, grab a few seasonal treasures, and snap some photos that feel like pure fall. 🍎🌻🍁

Marche Jean-Talon is food heaven! Get your freshest raw food here. 🍎🍑🍊🍋🍅🫐🥦🥬🌶🧅🥬🧀🥩🍗🥧🧁 Besides at least 10 produce stands selling the freshest fruits, vegetables, herbs, and juices, there are nearly as many butcheries. Need seafood? ✅️ Cheese, olives, baked goods? ✅️ Great selection at reasonable prices.
Tricee L — Google review
One of my favourite places to go. Just to browse or buy flowers, olives, fresh fruit or garden gear. Best to go in summer for the full market experience or fall, when the autumn vegetables are available. Pumpkin season is my favourite! Very accessible, though crowds make it difficult to maneuver at peak hours. Perfect date spot, lots of options, enjoy local vendors and artists (live music and buskers)

It is a major cultural hub of the city throughout the year, featuring iconic events like Just for Laughs and the International Jazz Festival. The area also provides access to theaters, the Montreal Symphony House, national library, museums, and more.
Place des Arts... this is our 2nd show at one of there's salon, both times during the Montreal Jazz festival, we saw Kool and the Gang a few years ago, and just this las weekend we saw Dianne Reeves, an American jazz singer that was not bad at all, but this is about the theater, not the show, so... the place it was really nice, all accordingly and we enjoyed a wonderful time, price was "Moderate" was a excellent experience, a recommended place for a one night show

Chapel
Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel, one of Montreal's oldest churches, has a rich history dating back to 1673. Founded by Marguerite Bourgeoys and completed in 1771 after a fire, it became a pilgrimage site for sailors in the 19th century. The chapel features unique art, including wooden boats hanging from its rafters as thanks for safe passage in the 1800s.
Visited on a Sunday. Entrance was free, and it was a rainy day, so it wasn't hectic. It's a beautiful historic church. Loved the stained glass. A must-see when in the area. My kids loved it, and they are easily bored.
Through_Barb_Eyes — Google review
Beautiful chapel! Entry is free to the main building to pray and/or look around. There is a small fee ($16 I believe at the time) to visit the Museum and gain access to the Tower Lookout. The view from the top of the tower is great, though it can be difficult to ascend the stairs for those with disabilities. It was also great to learn more about St. Margaret Bourgeois and the pivotal role she played in the development of Montreal.

Had a very special trip here this summer. A beautiful chapel and the real gem is to take the tour and explore the undercroft built by Saint Marguerite Bourgeoys. There is a great tour guide here. I can’t recall his name but he has long hair and studies Alexander the Great. He gave a fantastic tour and telling if the history of this place. Truly a worthwhile visit if in Montreal. 5/5.

A Moving Visit to the Sailors' Church Nestled in the heart of Old Montreal, the Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel is a place of profound peace and fascinating history. The chapel's beautiful architecture, preserved over centuries, offers a glimpse into Montreal's past, creating a serene and reflective atmosphere from the moment you step inside. Its intimate scale makes it a truly special and welcoming spiritual home. One of the most unique and touching features of the chapel is the collection of small boat models hanging from the ceiling. It is so good to see these votive offerings, each one placed there as a prayer by sailors and their families for safe passage on their voyages. These ships are a powerful symbol of faith and hope, and they give the chapel a distinctive maritime character that tells a story of Montreal's deep connection to the sea. Whether you are seeking a moment of quiet contemplation or are interested in the rich history of the city, a visit to Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours is a must. The combination of its lovely architecture and the unique tradition of the sailors' prayers makes it a memorable and moving experience.

It was very emotional and brought tears to my eyes learning what Marguerite had done for women’s education and public education despite the hardships she faced along the way. Starting from 20 years old she advocated for non cloistered nuns who could help their communities (and even globally)- it was finally formally recognized and “approved” when she was 78 years old. So inspiring the difference this woman has made to the world. They also have an archeological site you can tour through and a beautiful lookout at the top of the chapel. Thank you to the wonderful staff/tour guides.

Must visit. The chapel is free and beautiful. The museum and balcony are for ticket purchase on the second floor. Can be purchased separately. Great view from two different floors of the city and St Lawrence River. Probably cheaper too.

Absolutely beautiful church, the staff was very welcoming. You can take non-flash photography. We were able to light a candle for 2 or 5 CAN. You can take a tour of the museum and go to the top of the church and lookout. Wonderful, historic site.

This is an interesting museum. It's not a huge museum and some of the tower section is not accessible for people who have difficulty with stairs. There were artifacts discovered on site like coins and shards of ceramics. You get a sense of the passion of St. Margaritte and she didnt seem to travel with alot of possessions from France. I enjoyed the church, many parts were beautiful and well kept.

Located in the heart of Old Port, La Grande Roue de Montreal is a modern engineering marvel that offers breathtaking 360° views of Montreal and the St. Lawrence River from its towering height of 60 meters. As the tallest Ferris wheel in Canada, it illuminates the night sky with vibrant colors, creating a stunning spectacle against the evening backdrop. Visitors can capture its reflection in the water at twilight or take long exposure shots to capture its motion against Montreal's illuminated skyline.
We opted for the VIP experience (CAD 80) and it was absolutely fantastic. Very romantic and memorable! We connected to the Bluetooth speaker to play our own music, which made the ride even more magical—especially at night with the city all lit up. The views were stunning, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout. Highly recommend for couples or anyone looking for a special experience in Montreal.
Fabianna B — Google review
We really enjoyed the ride. Beautiful sunset views of the city. Recommend buying tickets online prior to going, especially on weekends. You get about three rotations for the price. Would definitely recommend going at night!
Cindy W — Google review
We visited the Ferris wheel on a hot summer day, and I was very impressed that the cabins had air conditioning. This was a big plus, as we thought it would be stuffy inside, but instead it was cozy and comfortable. Each cabin can fit up to eight people, making it a perfect activity for families, especially if you’ve already explored the main attractions and want to see Montreal from a bird’s-eye view. The beauty of the city is hard to describe in words, but from the wheel you can enjoy it in comfort and safety. The ticket includes three rotations, air conditioning, and a stunning view. The price felt a bit high, but for the comfort and convenience it’s worth it, and there are student discounts available. Would I come back? Absolutely — it’s a wonderful way to admire Montreal again. Pros: comfort, cleanliness, convenience. Cons: the price is a little high.
Real R — Google review
My wife and I had such a great time at La Grande Roue de Montréal. We love travelling and have been on many Ferris wheels around the world, but this one was definitely one of the nice experiences. It gives you an amazing view of downtown Montreal, the Old Port, and even across the river, especially if you go around sunset or at night when the city lights up. The ride lasts about 15 minutes and makes around 4–5 full spins, which feels just right not too short, not too long. The best part is that you get the entire cabin to yourself, so you don’t have to share with anyone else. It feels private and comfortable, and the cabins are clean, air-conditioned, and spacious. The only downside was the wait time. It took quite a while before we could get on, and the line moved slowly even though we went on a weekday. It would definitely help if they had a better system for managing the queue. Still, once you’re up there, the view makes it all worth it. It’s peaceful, romantic, and a great way to see Montreal from a new angle.

A good attraction. Slightly expensive i believe. Should be 5 to 10 dollars cheaper than current price or a longer trip. We got 3 full revolutions. It was a great view of the skyline in the evening. It looked great. Will definitely bring family again.

The waterfront in Old Montreal is an absolute tourist destination. With the Grand Roue as a center point of attention, there can be pretty large crowds on the weekends. Going midweek allows you to explore the wheel, the shops, and all the excellent nearby restaurants and sites with the same amount of excitement with a bit fewer people to navigate around. No matter when, Montreal is always worth the trip.
Jeff G — Google review
As someone who hates ferris wheels I was reluctant to get on this with my family. Thankfully, the enclosed space and comfort made it easy. I like that you can link your phone to the speaker inside, although I wish they made it more clear than making it look like a panic button. Comfort was great, you can adjust the climate settings inside. Views are amazing. It doesn't look like it is that much taller than surrounding structures until you get to the top. What a great experience, we all had a blast doing the first ride of the day.

We loved our ride on La Grande Roue in Old Montreal this weekend. The cabins are air conditioned, have blue tooth (remember to hook up your music throughout your ride) and very clean. We felt that we had enough rotations to make it worth the price of admission and we were lucky it was a quiet day we had the cabin to ourselves. You can ride during the day or at night and they do have student pricing available. The views from the top were lovely and the entire ride was relaxing.

Located on St. Paul Street, the historic Bonsecours Market has been a prominent feature since 1847, resembling the architecture of Vienna or Paris. Originally an agricultural market and even serving as the Legislative Assembly for a brief period, it is now home to apparel boutiques, art galleries, and restaurants. Despite its stunning exterior, some find the interior lacking in shopping options and vibrancy.
Notable for its beautiful architecture. A few stores inside looked interesting. The food court seemed good, although I didn't try it. Paid parking is available in the vicinity. A must-see attraction for visitors to Old Montreal.

This is the landmark public market building along Rue St. Paul in Old Montreal. Fitted next to the historic Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel, the Bonsecours Market was build in Neo-Classical style by William Footner between 1844-47 and features a column lined entrance and two storey dome. It has been recognised as a National Historic Site in Canada since 1984. The market building is attractive from the outside. Within you find a couple floors of shopping space lined with boutique retail, apparel and food shops, art galleries as well as a few places to grab a bite to eat. It is a neat venue to walk through and spend a bit of time while sightseeing around Old Montreal.

A Beautiful Piece of Montreal's History Bonsecours Market is, without a doubt, one of Montreal's most iconic and historically significant buildings. From the outside, it is absolutely stunning—a magnificent example of neoclassical architecture that stands proudly in Old Montreal. It's the kind of place that's great just to look at or to capture some beautiful photos, a true testament to the architectural style of its time. While the exterior is grand, the inside feels a bit different. It's clear that the building is historic, and while that charm is present, it feels like the interior could use a little more work to match the splendor of its facade. The name "market" is also a bit deceiving; don't expect a traditional market with fresh produce or bustling food stalls. It functions more like a high-end art gallery or a collection of boutique shops. The stores inside offer great, high-quality products, mostly from local artisans, which is wonderful to see. However, be prepared for prices to be a little on the higher side. It would also be great if there was more variety among the shops to offer a broader experience. In general, Bonsecours Market is a fantastic building to admire and a key piece of the city's heritage. It's worth a visit, especially if you appreciate architecture and unique, artisanal crafts.

This is one of the best markets in old Montreal to buy souvenirs. There are a number of shops, most of which sell souvenir items. Their products are og different designs and accommodate to different tastes and ages.
Reza N — Google review
Wandering through Old Montreal, Bonsecours Market stood out like a beacon of elegance and history. The gleaming silver dome and neoclassical façade immediately caught our eye, and stepping inside felt like entering a curated gallery of Quebec’s creativity. This isn’t your average tourist market—it’s a beautifully restored 19th-century building that now houses a mix of artisan boutiques, galleries, and specialty shops. We found everything from handcrafted jewelry and First Nations artwork to locally made clothing and gourmet treats. Each shop felt like a small museum, with passionate vendors eager to share the stories behind their products. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, with natural light pouring in through tall windows and soft music adding to the ambiance. It’s the kind of place where you can browse slowly, discover something unique, and feel connected to the local culture. We especially appreciated the emphasis on quality over quantity—no tacky souvenirs here, just thoughtful craftsmanship. If you're looking to take home something meaningful from Montreal or simply enjoy a quiet moment surrounded by beauty and history, Bonsecours Market is a must-visit. Bonus points for the nearby cafés and the scenic stroll along Rue Saint-Paul and the Old Port just outside.

Fast food restaurant
Gibeau Orange Julep is a Montreal must-visit, known for its iconic giant orange orb structure that has been around since 1930. This roadside attraction offers a retro feel, especially during summer evenings when vintage car enthusiasts gather. The menu features classic Quebec casse-croute fare, including vegetarian-friendly options like poutine, veggie dogs, and veggie burgers. Their signature frothy Orange Julep drink is a popular choice among visitors.
I absolutely love everything about this place! Great vibe and atmosphere. The orange juice is amazing. I ordered a regular and Michigan hot dog. Best hot dogs I’ve ever had. The wings are also really good. You must add this to your list when visiting Montreal! 🍊

Interesting restaurant that everyone can see the big orange once you reach the area 1. Orange drink : strange taste that may not appeal to everyone 2. Hotdog is great 3. Poutine is acceptably delicious 4.Service: self served 5. Sitting outside : quite windy when we were there 6. Price : quite priced ….
Wilbur L — Google review
I appreciate the service and the atmosphere but to be completely honest, the flavours here just didn’t do it for me. I found the poutine way too salty and the julep way too sweet. Again, that’s my personal taste and it’s subjective to my individual taste. For the price, so not worth it.
Natalie P — Google review
The Orange Julep was truly one of the best orange juices I’ve ever had, sweet, frothy, and bursting with bright, fresh citrus flavour. From the very first sip, you can tell it’s made daily from fresh squeezed oranges, there’s a natural sweetness and tang that feels pure and refreshing, unlike anything you’d get from a bottled juice. The texture is creamy and smooth, almost like a light orange shake, making it both satisfying and incredibly refreshing at the same time. Beyond the drink itself, there’s something special about the experience, sipping it under the giant orange dome feels nostalgic and distinctly Montreal. It’s more than just a drink, it’s a tradition that captures the charm and simplicity of classic roadside treats. Whether you’re stopping by on a sunny afternoon or as a late night treat, it’s guaranteed to hit the perfect balance between indulgence and refreshment. A must try if you’re ever in the city.

ordered the poutine and orange juice ! overall good experience. We didn’t expect the fries to be with mozzarella…. But the fries’ crunchiness was still intact even with all the sawwwwuce 😍 you definitely need to be in a certain mood to eat this meal — very heavy & salty !
Elaine — Google review
Orange Julep is one of those iconic spots you feel like you have to try at least once — and that’s exactly what we did. The giant orange structure is hard to miss and definitely adds to the charm and curiosity of the place. That said, the experience itself was a bit mixed. Ordering was a bit tricky, especially since everything on the menu was in French. While the cashier did try to help, the place is always busy with long lines, so you can’t expect much time or personalized service. They do their best, but it’s a fast-paced environment. I ended up ordering a chicken sandwich and, of course, their signature Orange Julep drink. The sandwich was okay — nothing extraordinary, but it did the job. The orange drink, however, lived up to its reputation. It was creamy, sweet, and refreshing — definitely the highlight of the visit, though a bit too sweet for my taste. Overall, Orange Julep is worth visiting for the novelty and the famous drink. Don’t expect a gourmet meal or calm service, but if you’re in Montreal and curious about local staples, it’s a fun place to check out at least once.
MAHESH S — Google review
Fun visit, but overpriced for what you get Stopped by the Orange Julep and had a mixed experience. The hot dogs were very good—classic, tasty, and satisfying. The Julip drink was also excellent, refreshing and unique as always. However, the poutine was underwhelming, and the French fries were disappointing—just a pile of short, stubby pieces that were awkward to eat and not enjoyable. For a place known for fast food, I expected better. Overall, it was still a good experience thanks to the nostalgic vibe and the standout Julip drink, but the value isn’t there. Prices are way too high for what is essentially hot dogs and fries. Worth a visit for the novelty, but don’t expect a great deal.

Best poutine I had while in the city. The Julep drink was pretty great. The big Orange is a sight to see. Plenty of places to sit, both covered and uncovered. Tons of parking. Food is ready almost immediately.

Château Dufresne is a grand 1918 mansion in Montreal's east end, now housing a museum that delves into the city's history. The museum showcases the East End's heritage and features exhibits on stained glass production techniques and murals by Canadian-Italian artist Nincheri. It also hosts temporary displays, including local photography and an exploration of Andy Warhol advertising.
It's a really nice place to appreciate the old decoration and a heritage well preserved. Good service and knowledge from the lovely team. It's not too big, so we can spend a reasonable amount of time on details.

Nice little museum of a historic home in Montreal. It tells the story of the family and the home. They will store your water bottle at the front. Be aware that there is a lot of nude art in the stained glass windows and sculptures. It felt good to spend some time indoors after being outside.

It’s a beautiful building with interesting architectural features. This is the place to go if you are interested in architectural details because the floors, ceilings and windows are all different in different rooms. It’s too bad that many rooms remain unfinished and there is no souvenir shop. You get 2$ off if you have an Accès Montréal card.

The worst experience of my existance. I had a guest from out of town who loves European-style architecture and castles, so I said why not, let’s go visit. We are 2 girls who are well dressed. Natually, as she is a tourist, I was taking pictures (no flash) of her in the castle. The staff started following us around and asking us to stop or else they will kick us out. We were never told this upon purchasing the ticket. God I have been all over the world and never have I seen this kind of behavior. They were saying that it is THEIR castle and they make the rules. I asked them to show me this « rule » on paper but naturally, they had no evidence. That castle is not theirs, not even in their dreams lol. Do not waste your time, do not go. Such a shame because it is a beautiful property. I love how we can take pictures but not of ourselves in the frame. These people are deranged. Good luck to anyone that visits!

Beautiful and magical! Lots of different styles of architecture in one building! The paintings, murals, etc are impressives! I suggest to go in summer during the day since the garden will be prettier. Also, consider going on the first Sunday of the month since it is free for Quebec Resident!

Gorgeous museum, it's an architectural gem in Quebec, not far from the tourist attraction Olympic stadium, but very few people visit. Maybe because the admission fee is a bit too expensive. I would recommend Quebec residents to visit it on the first Sunday of the month.

Great views over the St. Helen and Montreal Island. We decided to take the boat from the old port to St. Helen, to explore the island and then come back from the Jacques Cartier bridge. It was a really nice long walk! It takes some time to cross the bridge but is worth the time. Just a heads up, many bikers cross the bridge so you have to be careful.

Victor C — Google review
The Jacques Cartier Bridge is a defining landmark of Montréal, spanning the St. Lawrence River to connect downtown Montréal with Longueuil, while providing access to Île Sainte‑Hélène and Parc Jean‑Drapeau 🌉. 🏗️ History & Engineering Highlights Conceived to ease congestion across the river, the project was officially launched in 1924, with construction by the Dominion Bridge Company starting in 1925. A ceremonial cornerstone was laid on August 9, 1926 . Opening occurred on May 14, 1930 as the “Harbour Bridge.” Ten days later, on May 24, the inauguration ceremony was held . In 1934, it was renamed in honour of the explorer Jacques Cartier following a public petition . 📐 Structure & Modifications A steel cantilever truss bridge, roughly 2,765 metres (≈ 3.4 km) in length with 28 piers and 13 steel towers, it was built using 33,267 tonnes of steel at a cost of about C$23 million . Initially three lanes plus pedestrian walkways, it expanded to five lanes by 1959 by converting tramway corridors to vehicular traffic. Its cantilever span (≈ 590 m) includes anchor and main spans; the eastern channel was lifted in 1957–58 to 36.5 m to allow ships through the new seaway—all done without interrupting traffic . 🚶 How People Move — Traffic, Cycling & Walking Today, it's a five‑lane highway, carrying between 90,000 and 110,000 vehicles daily, with annual traffic around 35.8 million crossings—making it Canada's third-busiest bridge after Champlain and Port Mann . A multipurpose path and sidewalk (≈ 2.7 km long) permit pedestrians, cyclists and scooters, offering stunning views of Mount Royal, downtown, La Ronde, and the Old Port . Around 550,000 walking or cycling crossings are logged annually . ✨ Illumination & Cultural Features Since 2017, the bridge has featured the Living Connections lighting system—a vast LED installation that changes in real time with city data like weather, traffic, seasons, and social media trends. Over 2,800 lights/projectors illuminate its piers, turrets, and structural skin in coordinated animations—making it the world's first “connected” bridge using big data to reflect Montréal’s mood . 🧭 Must‑See & Insider Experiences The iconic Art‑Deco pavilion and turrets mid‑span pay homage to Parisian architecture; the turrets are often said to evoke a mini‑Eiffel Tower Pedestrians can walk through a tunnel beneath the bridge with murals by Montreal artist Rafael Sottolichio, which dramatize the city's industrial past The bridge has the nickname “Pont courbé” or “crooked bridge,” due to its zig-zag approach resulting from a landowner’s resistance to expropriation during the planning phase A bronze bust of Jacques Cartier, gifted by France in 1934, is displayed at the Sainte‑Hélène pavilion 🚧 Safety & Upgrades A suicide-prevention barrier was installed in 2004 after an average of 10 annual incidents . Recent improvements include anti-glare fencing for cyclists (2022), redevelopment of the land underneath into an urban, educational green space with interpretive placards and old bridge materials (2022–23) . The managing body, Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Inc. (JCCBI), took over in 1978 and continues to oversee maintenance and ongoing improvements—with a service life projected to 2080 🎒 Why Visit? Feature Experience Scenic Views Panoramic vistas of Montréal, the river, Parc Jean‑Drapeau, Old Port, Mount Royal Active Crossing Walking or cycling path offering both utility and sightseeing Nighttime Light Show Dynamic illumination synced to Montréal’s energy and events Rich History Architectural charm, engineering stories, and local lore woven into the structure
Dhruva K — Google review
The bridge is closed to cars on summer nights with fireworks, so people can walk onto it and enjoy the show. It’s a great spot with a fun, lively vibe. 🎆
Mr. F — Google review
Colossal bridge, I crossed it on foot, took me a long time. Amazing view of Montreal with Mont Royal in the background. The only thing is that there’s no distinction between the cycling lanes and pedestrian lanes, so it’s quite uncomfortable to walk there.
Tommaso R — Google review
Well I am thankful to have a direct and protected way to cross the river by bike (or foot). Truthfully it’s a long steep busy bridge with gate/pylons to navigate on the hills which practically take me out 😓 I prefer to go farther to the pedestrian bridge to avoid the potential for being wrecked by those gates 🥲

Farine Five Roses is an iconic symbol of Montreal's industrial heritage, located on the roof of the ADM flour mill building. Dating back to 1948, this advertising neon dominates the Peel Basin and has undergone linguistic changes over time. Despite occasional issues with its lights, it remains a must-see monument in Montreal. The surrounding area offers a post-punk urban decay aesthetic that appeals to many visitors.
Visiting the Farine Five Roses sign was an unforgettable experience! As a long-time admirer of Montreal’s rich history and vibrant culture, seeing this iconic neon sign up close was truly special. The sign, with its bright red and white lights, stands proudly against the skyline, a testament to the city’s industrial heritage. Located along the St. Lawrence River, the sign is beautifully illuminated every evening, making it a perfect spot for photography. I visited just as the sun was setting, and the view was absolutely breathtaking. The contrast of the glowing sign against the twilight sky was mesmerizing. What I love most about the Farine Five Roses sign is its story. It’s not just a piece of advertising; it’s a symbol of Montreal’s resilience and community spirit. The efforts to preserve and maintain this sign show how much it means to the people here. It’s a piece of living history that continues to shine brightly.

Montreal Underground City, also known as RESO, is a vast network of underground pathways and tunnels spanning nearly 32 kilometers. It connects various shopping centers, subway stations, and buildings in the downtown area. This underground pedestrian complex offers access to over 2,000 stores, 17 museums, an ice hockey arena, a movie theatre, nightclubs, restaurants and numerous other businesses. It is easily accessible from the street level or through major hotels and subway stations.
The architect is definitely something to marvel at! Pristine, classy and unique. Visitors park on levels 9-12 underground and take the elevator to ground level. Not many boutique shops but still worth a visit!

Navigating the underground shopping center did not disappoint. It’s huge and has pretty much everything you could think of. It reminded me a little of the a Tokyo underground mall. It was very clean and well maintained. It was also a welcome air conditioned place to escape the blistering heat that day!

We didn’t have much time to explore as we were in Montreal for only 3 days but the portion we visited was nice although nothing special about it really. I think we might have appreciated it better in the winter when we would have been sheltered from the cold but we preferred visiting the city outdoors as the weather was so nice. A must visit though.
Joana M — Google review
The Underground City isn't just a tourist attraction — it's a real part of everyday life for locals. Stretching over 30 km, it connects shopping malls, hotels, metro stations, universities, and office buildings — all sheltered from the harsh winter weather. You can walk for hours without ever going outside. Great for shopping, dining, and staying warm during snowy days. The signs could be a bit clearer for first-time visitors, but it’s still a unique experience worth exploring. Perfect for those who want to enjoy the city in any season — especially in winter!

It's a shopping center, selling clothing, candles, candy, shoes, etc. Nothing particularly special there. What makes it unique is that you decend into it, instead of climbing levels up. That's it. The standard food court is on the lowest level. I recommend the Aqua Lunch for freshly-made fish and generous servings of extras, veggies, rice, potatoes, salad, etc. It served fresher food fast, not fast food. There is a higher-end food court on the single "upper floor" above street level, the "Time Out Market."We did not make it back to eat here but it had a large variety of food from different ethnic groups and alcohol was available for purchase.

It's prettier than the last time i was there 10 years ago. I believe that there are more rides, this time. Indeed the best and the grandest amusement park in all of Quebec 😍

Very kid friendly. Great themed areas for the kids sections: bugs, pirates and dinosaurs...how could you go wrong with that? Easy to get around the park. Mist being blown over you when lining up for many of the rides to keep patrons cool. Lots of rides were removed and nothing replaced them. Easy to do the entire park in a day (we went on a Friday). Finding the parking lot was a pain, but once you find it, it is close to the entrance. For a theme park the food options were surprisingly good. More of a focus on family friendly vs big coasters. Vampire was awesome!

DO NOT PAY FOR PLATINUM, it is a waste of money. Half of the rides were of our defective. The place is not even 1/3 full in the middle of school vacation, I cannot imagine how empty this is on regular days. Very desorganized too. Of course, everything to drink and eat is extremely overpriced too. On the bright side, sobre rides still cool such as "Monster" the wood Roller coaster. The Best ride for sure.
Tiago K — Google review
Half of the rides are inoperable or in disrepair. There are abandoned buildings and rides all over the park. The food prices are astronomical. There isn’t a ton to do for the price of the ticket. The staff don’t seem to care about their job and move at a snails pace to operate the operational rides. Just disappointed.

July 2025. My family (not me) had fun going on all the roller coasters. Lines weren't too bad on a weekday (except for the toboggan nordique, that was a waste of time). A day may not be enough to get on everything (minus the kiddie rides)
Patrick V — Google review
This is one of the smaller theme parks I've seen. It is well spaced but there is a lack of shade so make sure to bring sunscreen or go on a day that isn't too hot. I went on a day that was 35+, BIG mistake. there is no shade to wait in for some of the rides we went on and the seats get hot fast. There were almost no lines which was great! My favorite ride was the Dragon, an indoor coaster which is suitable for most ages and tastefully outdated. The workers here are really helpful and nice! be aware that most of the food stalls and game stalls do not open for a few hours after the park does. Some of the rides I wanted to go on did not open the whole 4 hours I was there (such as Demon and the carousel). While the park is small ish, it is still worth going to at least once. Their candy shoppe has a lot of unique options like shaving foam sour candy and gigantic pixie sticks! The dino parc is small but cute! I loved the animatronic dinos!

Some rides were closed and food variety wasn’t the best, but the excitement of the park made up for it! 🎠 Ended the day with sore feet, big smiles, and lots of fun.

My friend from Vancouver was joking with a joker — lol! Anyway, this place is amazing and relaxing, especially with their refreshing drinks and tasty treats. People should definitely come here often!

Nice décor. The weekends it's lively often with shows and such. Free drinks bar self serve (soft drinks, coffee). Booze is at the bar $ The arcade is meh, more expensive than elsewhere with a card and pt system. You can redeem pts for some cheapie toys or snacks. Not enough cheaper table or digital ones for stuff like blackjack where there is still a little bit of a social aspect of playing with other real people. Can get a little lost and confusing in there. There is also a place to buy food and a canteen.

Gorgeous casino. Truly a marvel to see. Tons of games. Tons of slots. My only gripes are that the only crabs table isn't a conventional crabs table. It's digitized. The other gripe is you don't get free drinks while gambling. It is definitely worth a visit if you are in Montreal though. Very cool!

A must see if you are in Montreal. I was slightly disappointed that the glass floors with water and fish swimming below us was completely removed ( that was 30 years ago). We still had a great time. Place is clean and is one of the nicer looking casinos I have been to. Tip: People wear comfortable clothes. I have seen jeans, T-shirts and running shoes although many people still like to dress up. Keep the place classy by dressing up if possible. 😉

The McCord Stewart Museum, located in downtown Montreal near McGill Campus, is a treasure trove of historical artifacts and exhibits. Founded by David Ross McCord in 1921 to display his family's collections, the museum now houses over a million objects. Its diverse exhibits cover a wide range of subjects from hockey to Inuit art and showcase the unique history of Montreal.
Although this is not a huge museum, every exhibit is SO well presented. The attention to details in every room of every exhibit is top tier. We had a great time. They make a noticeable effort to make their environment/presentations family/kids-friendly. The « Indigenous voices of today » exhibit was the best, most heartfelt and thought-generating First Nations exhibit we’ve seen so far. The costume balls exhibit is making us realize how much forward we went forward as a society in barely 100-150 years while appreciating old days crafstmanship and (sometimes unhealthy) creativity.
Rich B — Google review
We went to see the Victorian Ball and First Nations exhibits. For a small museum, it had very nice collections and was a great way to have a little afternoon excursion for only $20. It was wonderful to see hiw elaborate and colorful the costumes were. My only complaint was that the main room in the ball exhibition was so dimly lit, you couldn't see the colors on the gowns without a flashlight. Don't forget to check out the beautiful items in the gift shop!
Thetruthergirls — Google review
We attended the costume ball exhibit and thoroughly enjoyed it. The exhibit provided an informative overview of ball culture during that era, highlighting the significance of custom in high society. Despite its compact size, the museum offered a variety of other exhibits, including a street photography section. The overall layout was meticulously designed, and attention to detail was evident throughout. Interactive activities, such as a complimentary photo booth, were also available. I strongly recommend purchasing tickets online to avoid the price difference when purchasing them in person.

I really enjoyed! The guided tour was great! Every staff is kind. I love to be a member of the museum. It’s only $35 and unlimited access! My kid also liked it a lot with activities prepared for families. The photo making machine was wonderful! McCord Museum is great. Saw the Montreal Street Photography exhibit - excellent and very inspiring! Went to a screening of So Surreal:Behind the Masks, an excellent film about masks that were stolen from Indigenous communities on the West Coast. The journey that some of them had and how they influenced the Surrealist artists, as well as how they now trying to be repatriated was the subject of an interesting discussion after the film. Highly recommend the McCord Museum!

Christ Church Cathedral, a 19th-century Neo-Gothic architectural marvel, boasts a stunning 2,778-pipe organ. The cathedral prides itself on being an inclusive and diverse community that values the spiritual contributions of individuals from various backgrounds. It emphasizes equal ministry for both men and women and encourages a deep connection with God through prayer, worship, music, and study.
Christ Church Cathedral in Montreal is a striking example of Gothic Revival architecture, located in the heart of the city. Built in the 19th century, it serves as the mother church of the Anglican Diocese of Montreal. The cathedral's beautiful stained glass windows, intricate woodwork, and soaring spires make it a standout landmark. With its rich history and serene atmosphere, it remains a symbol of Montreal's religious and architectural heritage. The church also hosts regular services, concerts, and community events, making it a vibrant part of the city's cultural life.

Visited the cathedral at least 20 times. It is always part of our stops each time we go for the festival. Top quality-of-experience for us
LnG L — Google review
This is an important historical church on Rue Saint-Catherine Street West in the downtown area. It was constructed in Gothic Revival architecture between 1857-1860 and is the seat of the Anglican Diocese of Montreal. The cathedral is also recognised as a historical monument of Quebec (1988) and National Historic Site of Canada (1999). Christ Church Cathedral is open daily for visitation. There is a service schedule on their website for those interested service times, mission statement or other ministry related information. The exterior is very nice, a good representation of Neo-Gothic style popular in the later half of the 19th-century commonly found with churches in Britain and the Commonwealth yet with some flamboyant touches that shows a bit of French touch as well. The interior is equally impressive with a narrow nave with high ceiling, arched vaults and nave column vaults. There is a beautiful screen behind the altar, some impressive stained glass window panes as well. It is a fine cathedral to visit and walk around if you enjoy seeing historic church buildings during your travels.

This historic church, with its grand cathedral-like architecture, is a marvel. Intricate windows, and beautiful stonework transport visitors back in time. Inside, the high vaulted ceilings and crafted altar create a 17th- 18th-century atmosphere. Worth a visit if you are, around.

This is a gem of a church. The first time I visited for Sunday Mass, I was invited to have coffee and cake in the front yard after the service. After not going to church for 32 years, the Anglican church immediaty felt like home. I have already met a few friends here. I pray I can come back every week when I'm in town and give back some of what this church has given me.

Christ Church Cathedral is uniquely situated atop the Promenades Cathédrale underground shopping mall, making it a highly central and accessible landmark. While it may not be as awe-inspiring as Europe’s grand cathedrals, it is still well worth a visit. The church has a fascinating history—for instance, it was originally built on unstable ground that couldn’t support its weight, leading to significant engineering challenges.

The World Trade Centre Montréal is a unique complex of historic buildings connected by a promenade, offering a mix of eateries, art exhibits, shops, and offices. Situated near the St. Lawrence River, it seamlessly blends modernity with history and serves as an ideal location for waterfront wedding photos. The grand atrium with its vast skylight provides beautiful natural lighting and the 'Ruelle des Fortifications' offers a distinguished backdrop that combines Montreal's rich past with its vibrant present.
The World Trade Centre consists an entire city block, it is a meeting junction of Old Montréal and the Quartier international (international district of Montréal). This place is famous for it's modern architecture with a blend of historical and contemporary elements. You can witness a portion of the Berlin wall (a gift for Montréal on 350th anniversary), a majestic fountain, and the mural “Circulations”. There is an underground pedestrian network (underground city) covered with a massive glass skylight having shops, restaurants and many other services.

The building has a very eye-pleasing structure. The atrium is very beautifully designed and ideal for some fascinating photographs. There are many offices in this building and you can enter the underground city of Montreal here and go all the way on foot through the tunnels.

such a relaxing spot to visit for pretty pictures and to chill at! the atmosphere is very calming and there's very few people early in the morning, which is great for taking pictures with that one iconic statue in the lobby. the area is very well lit and welcoming, it's one of my comfort places and has a bunch of yummy food spots in the building. i come here all the time, it's worth a visit!
Kazue — Google review
Nestled in the heart of Montreal, the World Trade Centre atrium stands as an oasis of calm amidst the bustling cityscape. This architectural gem is not just a feast for the eyes but also a hub of convenience, with an eclectic mix of shops, boutiques, and dining options, alongside a couple of hotels, all under one roof. Its strategic connections to a metro station and Montreal's extensive underground tunnel network make it an accessible haven for both locals and travelers. What sets this atrium apart, however, is its inviting atmosphere. The space is thoughtfully designed with ample seating areas that encourage visitors to pause and soak in the tranquility, especially around the mesmerizing fountain. A notable highlight is the display of a piece of the Berlin Wall, adding a touch of historical significance to the serene environment. The World Trade Centre Montreal's atrium truly embodies a unique blend of leisure, convenience, and historical intrigue, making it an exemplary spot for those seeking a momentary escape from the urban rush.

The underground city in itself is a marvel and this mall is well done. The architecture and the placement of the sculptures and the reflecting water tie it all together. Gorgeous spot for photos and to walk around with your partner, family or friends. I saw a bunch of photo shoots happening all around. Shops close based on timing so make sure to double check before coming. It is linked to so many other malls and establishments through the underground city tunnels, you won’t regret it.

As many reviewers have said, the architecture of this building is inspiring. Every corner offers something new and exciting to look at. I was especially fond of the black stone fountain AND the segment of the Berlin Wall that they have there. The Wall segment definitely took me by surprise.. Otherwise, there is a food court there as well that I think usually has good offerings. It's not a place to spend a whole day in, but it's worth putting on the to-see list when visiting Montreal.

Lachine Canal National Historic Site is a picturesque waterfront park located in Lachine, Montreal. The site holds historical significance dating back to the 17th century when pioneers sought a route to China. The 14.4-kilometer canal was constructed in 1825 as a passage around the Lachine Rapids and now serves as a charming park with green spaces and biking trails. Visitors can immerse themselves in the area's history while enjoying the scenic views of the canal and lush surroundings.
The Lachine Canal National Historic Site is an absolute gem! As someone who loves both history and outdoor activities, this place offers the perfect blend of both. Stretching nearly 14 kilometers from the Old Port to Lake Saint-Louis, the canal is a beautiful spot for a leisurely stroll, bike ride, or even a paddle. The canal’s history is fascinating. Originally opened in 1825 to bypass the Lachine Rapids, it played a crucial role in Montreal’s industrial development. Today, it’s a popular recreational area, and you can still see remnants of its industrial past, which adds a unique charm to the experience.

A great spot to enter the old port's biking and walking paths. As you enter facing the water, right hand is canal lachine and left hand is old Port. Some benches are around to sit and enjoy the scenery. In front of you is The Daniel McAllister Tug, and right across the basin you can see silo #5, a retired grain mill site open to exploration.

I often ride the bike path through Lachine and while aware of the local history, never really stopped to ‘smell the roses’. Decided to change that yesterday after reading about the conflict there in August 1689 during the Beaver Wars. The ride would be an ideal family outing or a bit of a break during a longer ride. From East to West… 1) The CP train bridge. There is a short trail down to the water with spectacular views. 2) Across the street is a park. I believe this would have been the location of Fort Remy. There is a replica of a church in the park with a plaque that references Remy. 3) The LaSalle windmill is quite spectacular. Is some restoration work going on at present. As you top the hill approaching the Lachine Canal there is a museum on the path. At the intersection with the canal there is an opportunity to enjoy the river riding the loop around the peninsula. 4) The fur trading post. Worth a visit!!! Great folks from Parks Canada there to answer any questions. 5) Plaque (out for repair) commemorating the conflict back in 1689. Referred to as the Lachine Massacre. 6) You can’t miss the spectacular church from any angle 7) Memorial for Fort Rolland. 8) We end at the lighthouse… or do we take in one more attraction;) Enjoy the scenic views of the canal along the way.

A fantastic place to visit just west of the old port. Usually it is more tranquil here than in the touristy spots— with nice link ups to the BIXI. There is also a bar / resto right on the canal, as well as a spa and an ice cream store. Some awe inspiring views of the old elevators and canal locks can be found too. Public bathrooms are here too for your convenience.

The shrimp salad was refreshing with greens that tasted crisp and a light dressing that let the shrimp stand out. The shrimp themselves were firm and sweet, not overcooked, and paired well with the vegetables.

Walk quickly (or run) for your life along the canal pathway because above you are massive silos of an agricultural nature supreme in their display. Then stop, look up. How many kilos of grain passed through these rusting silos in their day? It's perhaps a rhetorical question ...

A very calming place you can enjoy . I went there in winter when I needed a green nature , it was flowers trees and beautiful birds. Very enjoyable.

I had a lovely time in this garden. It’s very organized and clean. Some stuff they got on internet it’s not in true in reality such as the lady garden. And they charged 25, not worth it. They got a map at the entrance which is very helpful and a great source of guidance. Visit Japanese garden then go to Chinese one. First Nations garden was such a creatively but I feel like they didn’t do any effort adding this in there. Right at the beginning there is this empty indigenous home that got absolutely nothing in it. It’s like walk in and out. I feel like they didn’t represent the actual Canada in this garden. But they got clothing and old shoes they used to wear in Canada and the area got some sounds which was such a positive thing. I would have appreciate if it was more of drums and a feeling of pow pow. 3-stars because it got an amazing atmosphere, they got lights ready at night/evening time. A pleasant representation of Asian /Chinese/ Japanese/ and overall I loved every step I did!!! ALSO THEY GOT DRINKING WATER— must visit :)

The iconic symbol of the 1976 Olympic games still stands rather majestic although the retractable tent-roof now long gone. Absolutely phenomenal. This place is fully immersive, super educational, and very fun for adults. I would recommend it to my friends and family. There are lots of things for kids to do and see, but I feel like adults will really appreciate the insects the way they deserve. The collection here is absolutely stunning and insanely large. The staff are kind and love talking about the bugs and their habits. I was in awe the whole time. The free-roam insect room is so dense with beautiful butterflies and you can see them at all life stages. My favourite part was the ant highway!

Beautiful and fun experience but it ended so quickly! We were super sad there wasn't more. The live butterflies and leaf cutter ants are the best part. We could've watched them all day.
Keila A — Google review
A fun and educational activity! Loved seeing all the different species and getting to watch the ants work together to break and carry leaves! Even had a few butterflies land on us! We went on a weekday so it was not too busy or loud. Great for kids or adults!

The Montréal Insectarium is a nice place to visit, especially if you’re curious about insects or visiting with kids. It’s quite similar to other insectariums you might have been to, so if you’ve seen one before, the general idea will feel familiar, lots of displays, educational info, and different species from around the world. What really stood out to me was the leafcutter ant colony. It was honestly fascinating to watch them carrying little bits of leaves and moving around their tunnels. You can see the ants all over, working nonstop, and it’s amazing how organized they are. That was definitely my favorite part of the visit. Overall, it’s an interesting stop, especially if you’re already exploring the Biodome or Botanical Garden nearby. It’s clean, well laid out, and educational without being boring.
NJ C — Google review
Nicely redone to recreate an ant farm and experience life as an insect. Feel the vibration, skip from grass to grass, see vision as an insect, crawl through a tunnel. Kids loved that part. Adults will walk through in a few minutes. Interesting insect habitat follow with very short written information. (Two steps would be good in lieu of finding only stools for kids) More habitats would have been great to see. A large room of pinned species follows. Finally the walk through butterfly garden hosts beautiful species and an hardworking ant colony. The insectarium is by far the shortest visit from all the Espace Pour la Vie experiences and fell a bit short compared to others. Price can be indeed a bit on the expensive side for the duration when comparing to a full day at the biodome. It would be great to have more programs as simple as feeding timings or show and tell and display a schedule for visitors keen to attend more. Access is easy by car with parking close by. Long walk from metro.

With its location below the charming streets of Old Montreal along the St. Lawrence River, it is a popular destination for families. The museum's permanent exhibits allow children to engage with various scientific principles through interactive activities, making it an ideal spot for family outings.
Always a great experience at the Montreal Science Center. The kids have fun with the new exhibits and and the imax is always a winning formula. Plus you are in the old port so tons of restaurants around and it’s a very nice walk in the summer. Greatly recommended!

Happened to visit during a school field trip — three full school buses, so it was quite crowded! The museum has a large space with lots of fun science experiments to explore. Mini Mondo is great for little kids, with pretend stores and hands-on play. A wonderful place for children to learn and burn off some energy!

We have the ASTC passport and saw that this museum was on the list, so we decided to check it out. Met up with a couple friends to explore. Its great that as soon as you enter the hallway the interactive displays start up immediately. They have a few fun human related displays, included an audible fart, to get the kids excited and started. A lot of different audio and visual displays. Several displays that involves teaching different basic physics. A good mix between educational and some just fun displays. It can be pretty crowded, but for the most part it seemed like the kids and parents were doing really well at making sure to take turns. We had a great time.

Movie is good And not so very long. the place has many scientific things to do and it has been very good to have fun and enjoy the games. it’s just not that much of an issue to be able to watch and have some fun . Overall a very good place to visit with kids.

For the past 5 years We go there a few times a year. Recently they add one interactive room on native population. IT IS JUST GREAT. We can spend 1 hour just to find the hints. They really work hard to make each visit a very special one. If you want to go there and enjoy every activity, be aware that you'll need 3-4 hours. Science have no respect for time 😀😀 , so dont be in a rush or plan other activities after that. Enjoy !
Daphnée A — Google review
Very complete, interactive and fun science center. Plan a full Day to truly enjoy the exhibits. There is so much to do, from experimenting with physics concepts, water movements, exploring the human body, discovering the True North and even testing inventions at the Fabrik. Bring a lunch (onsite option of a Van Houtte cafe). Mini Mundo for Little kids is well designed, but was overran by older kids at themoment of visiting. Would strongly recommend a staff member be assigned to reset the play area there. Expensive outing: family can expect 110$+tx for local résidents.

Employees were all super nice and gentle. It was mostly kids targeted but I enjoyed the T-Rex exposition. Mention apart for the guy speaking about fireworks 🎆 I had fun listening to his talk.

The rotating exhibit was on T-Rex’s and my four year and six year old absolutely loved it. The normal exhibits were also amazing. Stop by the flatulence machine for a good laugh.

The Clock Tower, constructed between 1919-1922, serves as a poignant memorial to sailors lost at sea. Situated at the entrance of the historic Old Port along the St-Lawrence River, this iconic landmark offers a range of activities such as cycling paths, an urban beach, and even Segway rentals. Visitors can also enjoy festivals held here throughout the year. The tower's 192 steps lead to breathtaking views of the city and river from its 45-meter height.
The Montreal Clock Tower is a beautiful and historic landmark that everyone should see at least once. Built between 1919 and 1922, it was dedicated to sailors who died at sea and also functioned as a lighthouse for the port. The architecture is stunning and when it is open you can climb about 192 steps to reach the top. It is worth noting that you cannot always go inside since according to Google the interior is generally only open in the summer and during specific hours. Even when closed, the tower is striking to see up close and the surrounding views of the Old Port, the St. Lawrence River, La Ronde, and even the Biodome across the bridge are incredible. It is also very accessible. You do not need a car or a tour to get there, you can simply walk, and even though the road feels long it is actually a very quick trip. When I visited with my dad at around 9:45 in the morning, there were two other people nearby and unfortunately I came across something that really shocked me. Behind the tower there was human faeces. It did not smell but I was so disgusted I nearly threw up. I do not know who did it or what the situation was, but this is not acceptable in such a public and meaningful place. There were also signs of vandalism around the area, which was disappointing to see. There are many public washrooms available in Montreal, so there is no reason for this kind of behaviour. Staff were not yet on site since the tower does not open until 11 AM, so I could not report it at the time, but I hope it was cleaned up and addressed quickly after. Even with that unpleasant surprise, the Clock Tower itself remains a very special landmark. The history, the design, and the views make it unforgettable. It is a true gem in the Old Port and I would still recommend visiting to appreciate its beauty and significance. 🕰️🗼

We stopped in Montreal on our way to Quebec for a short vacation. We parked in the old city section and went to the Basilica and a few other sites. Then we got in the car and drove very to see the Clock Tower. It is beautiful and really stands out.
THE E — Google review
The only entrance we saw required paying minimum of $35 for parking to access the tower, beach, and yachts. However, there’s also a walking path where you can still enjoy a view of the tower without parking inside.

Here is tge famous iconic clock tower of Montreal, right by the coast in the old district. It is a popular place for locals to do running and cycling. It can be a very good experience to go around the tower and admire the beauty of the structure which has been in Montreal for a very long time.
Reza N — Google review
We didn’t have much time to explore the Clock Tower itself, but it’s definitely a nice spot to visit if you’re walking around the Old Port. The area around it is beautiful and peaceful, especially on a sunny day. Just beside the tower, there’s a lovely urban beach where you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the view of the river. It’s a great place to unwind for a while. The walk to get there is also one of the best parts. The boardwalk along the waterfront is clean, scenic, and full of nice photo spots. You can watch boats pass by, grab a drink or ice cream from nearby stalls, and just take your time strolling. If you’re visiting Montreal and want a calm, relaxing afternoon, this area is worth it. I’d set aside about half a day if you want to enjoy the beach, take photos, and soak up the atmosphere. It’s not a “must-see” attraction in the sense of big sights, but it’s a really pleasant place to slow down and enjoy the city.

Must visit as it highlights the shoreline of Old Montreal! Adds to the historical values and perfectly fits in with the skyline! Would recommend a walk in the night time!

Maison Saint-Gabriel Museum in Montreal is a historic site dedicated to preserving the heritage of the first settlers of New France. Housed in a 300-year-old farmhouse, it showcases over 15,000 artifacts and offers insights into daily life in 17th- and 18th-century New France. The museum provides interpretive information and exhibits describing the settlers' lives, farming techniques, education, and religious practices.
Don’t miss the opportunity to visit this place if you’d like to find out more about the history of Quebec and first European settlers! Bring your children (especially over 8 years old) with you. Great customer service! Everyone is so nice and ready to share everything they know about this place and more. Merci beaucoup!

A beautiful hidden gem in Montreal. Maison Saint-Gabriel feels like stepping into another time — peaceful gardens, well-preserved architecture, and fascinating stories of New France. The staff were kind and knowledgeable, and every corner was picture-perfect. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys history, heritage, and a calm escape from the city buzz. My photos don’t even do it justice!

This was really really cool, I'm so glad I went! The tour was very informative and nice, the inside of the house was wonderfully preserved and curated. As a heads up you can't go inside without a guide, so plan your visit accordingly. However if you're early theres a lovely garden totally worth checking out!

If you're not into history, it is just an old house. However if you appreciate history, then this house will take you back to a center piece of the history of New France and Montreal. This isn't just a home; it was a functioning farmstead and a key site run by the Congregation of Notre Dame. Its main historical importance comes from its role in housing some of the 'Filles de Roy' (King's Daughters). These were the young women sent by the King of France in the 1660s-70s to marry settlers and help populate the colony. This house was their first stop, a place to acclimatize and meet potential husbands. We had an English spoken tour, the guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and very open to answering questions. Hearing those stories in the building where they actually happened makes history feel very real.

Place des Arts is, in my opinion, one of Montreal’s greatest cultural gems. The area around it has evolved into one of the city’s most charming yet bustling sectors, with something to enjoy in every season. I can easily imagine how delighted tourists must feel when visiting. Its proximity to excellent restaurants and the metro (subway) makes it very accessible, though parking can sometimes be a bit tricky—but not enough to take away from the experience. I’ve attended numerous shows here, including Broadway productions, which are truly spectacular. My only real criticism is the sound quality, which isn’t always ideal. While many may overlook this, an acoustic overhaul would significantly elevate the entertainment experience and make this venue even more remarkable.
Stefano L — Google review
Saw 2 concerts in October. Mezzanine seats are too small. Also mezzanine seats don't have a unobstructed view (lighting fuxtures) of the screen images. It's something Place Des Arts should consider for people sitting higher (project images lower i n the screens) Parterre seats are ideal.

Mount Royal is a landmark mountain in the city, featuring a park and year-round lookout at its peak that offers sweeping views of the surrounding area. The 692-acre central green space was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, known for his work on New York's Central Park. Locals enjoy picnics, boat rides on the lake, and leisurely strolls with their dogs to reach the pinnacle of this 764ft-high mountain.
Visited Mount Royal and loved it. We went up to the viewpoint to see the city, amazing views. Also walked around Beaver Lake, really peaceful spot. Great place to relax and take in Montreal.

What a wonderful opportunity to go for a walk in the City of Montreal and take in the great view from Mount Royal. Make sure you set some time aside during your visit to check out the park. Spectacular during the fall time! I will certainly come back here soon.

We hiked to the top of Mount Royal and although it didn’t take that long, it’s a good workout to get to the top. Great views of downtown Montreal. There’s a snack bar, gift shop and bathrooms at the top. We also visited the Mount Royal Cross.
David S — Google review
Mount Royal is truly the heart of Montreal and one of the city’s must-visit attractions. The park offers a perfect escape from the busy streets, with scenic walking trails, lookout points, and plenty of green space to relax. The highlight is the Mount Royal Lookout, which gives stunning panoramic views of downtown Montreal and the St. Lawrence River – it’s especially breathtaking at sunset. The area is great for walking, jogging, cycling, or simply enjoying nature. In the summer, you’ll find people picnicking, relaxing on the grass, or rowing on Beaver Lake, while in the winter it becomes a hub for sledding, ice skating, and snowshoeing. No matter the season, Mount Royal Park is a favorite spot for both locals and tourists. The trails are well-maintained, family-friendly, and offer different routes depending on how much of a hike you want. It’s a peaceful yet vibrant place that captures the beauty of Montreal in every season.

It was a bad winter time we went there. The hike to the top of the mount was really tough but the view is marvellous. Best time to visit is anytime but storm time :-P. There is a cute shop at the top where we can use the washroom or have a snack and coffee.

Mont Royal is where nature takes the city by the hand and says “come on, let’s go for a walk” Climbing Mont Royal feels like stepping into a friendly little adventure where the city slowly peels off you, layer by layer, while your lungs cheer and your legs question their life choices. The path winds gracefully upward, so well made that even the squirrels seem to appreciate the accessibility standards. Along the way, you are greeted by Montreal’s small animal ambassadors. Rabbits who look like they are judging you, squirrels with more personality than some politicians, and birds who seem surprisingly comfortable with being photographed. Every now and then, a dog trots by, often wearing an expression that says, “I could have been at the spa, but here I am, on a walk my human insists is fun.” At the top stands a dignified building that feels like the city’s own grandfather in a suit, gazing out over Montreal with gentle pride. The view is a charming blend of history and glass, stone and reflection as if the city dressed itself in both traditional attire and a glitter dress, and somehow pulls it off beautifully.
Ulf R — Google review
A beautiful urban mountain climb, rich foliage, easy smooth roads and pathways. There are some side paths with a bit more extreme hiking but mostly it’s a nice easy ride up the mountain for a family adventure, a bike ride, or a morning jog. The Pavilion and plaza at the top are graced with an excellent view of the city

The Bank of Montreal Museum, nestled within Canada's oldest bank building from 1847, is a charming little gem that offers visitors a glimpse into the rich history of banking in Canada. With its grand neoclassical façade and intriguing exhibits, this museum showcases fascinating artifacts like vintage banknotes, mechanical piggy banks, and even a gold nugget from the Yukon. While it may be small—just a couple of rooms—it provides an insightful look at early banking practices and notable figures in the industry.
This museum definitely worth having a visit. I loved the little room that they located to describe the evolution of banking system in different cities of Canada. You can learn about the currencies and how they evolved too. At the end you can write your name and date of visit at the diary they put in the exit. The employee was kind and welcoming too 🙂.

I visited the bank of montreal museum and I liked it! It's only a small room that you can tour in a few minutes, but I ended up spending 30 min carefully looking at it's archival trinkets and reading up on its history. Because I'm obsessed with canadian history, and that canadian history is closely interlinked with this bank's history, this was a really neat experience 🤓 Alaric recommends 👐 🏦

The Bank of Montreal's Head Office, or Édifice de la Banque de Montréal for those who love a little French flair, is nestled at 119, rue Saint Jacques in the charming Old Montreal neighborhood. You'll find it right across from the stunning Notre-Dame Basilica, making it a lovely spot to visit! Did you know the Bank of Montreal is Canada’s oldest bank, having been founded back in 1817? While it still holds its legal headquarters here, the main operations moved to First Canadian Place in Toronto in 1977, partly due to some political changes in Quebec. Inside this historic building, there's a delightful little museum showcasing old banknotes and fascinating artifacts from banking history. Best of all, entrance is free, so it’s definitely worth stopping by for a quick look! Enjoy your visit!

When you come in the BMO, it is so impressive. The ceilings, the colums, are beautiful. I couldn't stop looking at them. I was looking for the museum but I was not too sure where it was. The security guard was so nice and helpful. When you go in the museum, it's only one small room. In less than half an hour, you are done exploring. Good thing it's free.

For more than a century Montréal was the unrivaled financial capital of Canada, when local business magnates and tycoons controlled some 85 percent of the resources in Canada. Founded in 1817, the Bank of Montreal is Canada’s first bank, whose main office faces Place d’Armes (Yup- the same one where the famous basilica 'Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal' is there) the imposing facade resembles the Pantheon and evokes the power of ancient Rome. Imp tip: Anyone can enter during business hours, though photography is not allowed in the branch area. Gaze up at the dome as you walk in and be sure to visit their small museum featuring exhibits about the history of the bank, including a 19th-century teller’s window, photos, coins, and banknotes. Admission is free.
