Puerto Galera

Puerto Galera is a town on the Philippine island of Mindoro. It’s known for its dive sites and beaches. The long curve of White Beach is backed by bars and resorts. Inland, a forest trail leads to secluded Talipanan Falls, and a hillside 9-hole golf course sits above the coast. Northeast, the waters off Sabang Beach teem with marine life and corals. Medio and Paniquian (Boquete) islands offer quieter beaches.

Waterfalls
Tamaraw Falls, named after the rare Tamaraw buffalo native to Mindoro Island, is a picturesque waterfall in Puerto Galera. It offers artificial pools at the base for visitors to swim and enjoy the serene, crystal-clear waters surrounded by lush greenery. The area also features a challenging hiking trail along the river's descent through the mountain.
We recently visited this waterfall with the family, and it was quite the adventure. It’s literally just beside the road, making it super accessible with no fee to enjoy the view. The only challenge was the parking—the shoulder was a bit too narrow, so it got a little tight. The falls themselves are absolutely beautiful—tall with plenty of water flowing down. They even built a platform so we could get closer, and we all loved feeling the refreshing mist spray on us. As we were exploring, local folks were super nice and really went out of their way to help us. They took group photos and even captured a fun “human drone” style video for us. The only thing they asked was that we buy something from their shop—we ended up picking up a bottle of coke and some buko juice. It started raining, so we didn’t stay long, but it was still a memorable experience. We really appreciated how welcoming everyone was and how they made this natural wonder accessible for everyone to enjoy.

Tamaraw Falls was quite something to experience, not because of the waterfalls, but what the staff there did. Apparently, they have what you call a "human drone" where they take a video for you that's kind of like a video done with a drone, but only on the ground. It's a bit confusing to explain, but the experience was amazing. Super thanks to the person there who helped take videos of us. The footage came out really great! There's also a pool at the bottom of the falls on the other side of the bridge. We didn't swim there, so I can't comment on it. There's also a souvenir shop at the side of the road. Other than that, there's not much to see here really.
Aaron C — Google review
The breathtaking waterfalls offer a truly relaxing experience for everyone. Small shops offer a variety of goods, and conveniently located bathrooms are available for use. The swimming pond is a refreshing oasis, surrounded by positive energy. Hiking trails are also available, allowing for exploration of the area. This location offers a wonderful experience for everyone.

I grew up seeing this every few weekends whenever we visit my dad's ancestral house. It was a blast stopping by Taramaw fall this November with my fiance, his mum and brother. Always so magical looking at its neverending trickle of water, and giant rocks with green moss. The merchants around the area were kind and accommodating too, and the price of everything is so much cheaper than Puerto Galera proper. A coconut was only 50 pesos here compared to town which is twice that, sometimes more, depending on the resort you're staying at.
Mitch A — Google review
This waterfall is literally just beside the road. No fee to see it but the parking is a bit tight as the shoulder is too narrow. It's a beautiful waterfall. Tall and have lots of water. They built something to get closer to the falls and the mist was spraying on us. We did not stay long because it was raining too but it was commendable that they made this accessible for everyone to see.
Belle — Google review
The falls is still beautiful no matter what season. Don't ever attempt to visit during a storm since it will be impassable. My family were able to swim below the man-made pool. It needed some serious maintenance then and even now. The toilet along the road was asking for ₱10 entrance for use but there are no doors for the cubicles. It has so many things stacked up inside the small room. Cleanliness, major repairs and management of the place are issues that the LGU needs to focus on. Parking is an issue on peak season. Park at your own risk along the road.

Tamaraw Falls in Puerto Galera is a stunning natural attraction, featuring a majestic multi-tiered cascade surrounded by lush greenery. The cool, refreshing water is perfect for a quick dip, and the scenic views make it ideal for photos. It’s an easy, worthwhile stop for nature lovers and road-trippers alike.
LEVI S — Google review
Pretty sight to see. Friendly people around to take photos. They go the extra mile with the photos as well. There is a pool that you can access as well if interested. We did not swim so can't comment much on that. Food and drinks available. It is just a road stop so watch for cars. The drive up is also very enjoyable, as is any drive on the island.

Visitors can enjoy waterfront hotels and restaurants along with various water activities such as scuba diving and snorkeling. For those seeking a break from the party scene, Talipanan Beach provides an ideal setting to unwind while taking in panoramic views of the ocean.
Clean to swim. Perfect for family vacation.

Nice, quiet, secluded beach with cute pebbles. Ideal for people who don't like crowded, busy places. For the best sunset massage look for Haidi

Best for viewing sunsets, nice views and the locals are very accommodating probably go back to enjoy the experience again.

Tucked away from the busy and loud vibe of the other spots like Sabang or White Beach, Talipanan is a tranquil version of Puerto Galera where you can take a swim or take a stroll along the beach. If you are all for relaxation in a serene and breathtaking scenery then this should be a destination for you.

Aninuan Beach is a serene and laid-back destination located near the famous White Beach in Puerto Galera. It's a popular spot for watching breathtaking sunsets and offers a more tranquil atmosphere compared to its bustling neighbor. The beach is surrounded by several resorts, making it an ideal choice for couples looking for a romantic getaway or families with young children. Aninuan Beach also serves as the gateway to Talipanan Beach and its enchanting waterfalls, adding to its allure.
It’s a nice beach with almost no people on it. Lovey calm place. You must go through a forest but the path is short and not difficult.
Daria B — Google review
Peaceful beach with no/less tourists (our preference). A much more cleaner water and beach compared to White Beach. Great sunset/dusk view. Walking distance from main road.
Bob N — Google review
We visited this beach early in the morning around 6 AM, and it was completely empty, which was perfect for us. We were looking for a calm, quiet, and clean spot, especially compared to White Beach, which is usually crowded. The peaceful atmosphere made it a great place to relax and enjoy nature. It’s just a 10 minute walk from the main road, and the serenity you find there makes the short walk absolutely worth it.
Ritankar D — Google review
This beach once was my backyard! Enjoyed my morning walks here. Just sad that I had to flee this beautiful beach. Ayalas frequently this beach occasionally. They are quiet humble people.
Jeff S — Google review
It's an effort to find, but it's definitely worth it. Much better than White Beach. We had to go through a path that was closed off to vehicles to get there, but once there, we were happy to have the beach almost all to ourselves :D If you're coming during monsoon season, however, better be careful of the strong waves!
Krishna L — Google review
Beach quality is same as White Beach, but there's way less people, no restaurants around, and less pebbles on the beach. 10/10 would recommend going here. Not too far from the main road, maybe a 2 minute walk, but you can't bring a vehicle in. 5 minutes away from AV Suites reception area.

Got lost finding the secret passage to this beach but definitely worth the trouble. This beach is perfect for relaxing because it's not crowded.

We didn’t expect a Korean/Italian red light district when we arrived here. The place was clean. One thing I noticed is that there is no utility poles resulting in a clean and relaxing mood.

We rented a motorcycle from White Beach just to visit Sabang Beach. However, there's no beach at all. Not worth it if you're not into diving.

I recommend to stay at sabang if you want to dive. But for the beach, I recommend others. But I had a great stay at my hotel.

Love the place if you come here for diving. Quite expensive if you want to go anywhere with a tuk tuk. We were 5 people coming from Manila and took private transport going there , first taxi pick up at the hotel in Manila and dropped off at the private boat taking us to the pier of our dive resort. A cost of 15000 php. We thought it was expensive, so we booked the puplic ferry and bus through sikat going back to Manila. The price of 8000 php + taxi to the ferry + taxi from station to hotel in Manila. We saved only 3000 php and used around 2 hours more on the road. Not worth the amount we saved. I'll recommend private. Both of them are expensive.

Waterfalls
Nestled deep within the lush jungle, Tukuran Falls is a captivating natural wonder that promises an unforgettable experience. Located about 45 minutes south of Puerto Galera in the village of Calsapa, this enchanting site features a series of gentle cascades and stunning turquoise swimming holes. The journey to Tukuran Falls involves a scenic 30-minute trek from the trailhead, where hiring a local guide is essential for navigating the path.
Enjoyable waterfall experience near San Theodoro. Note the turn off from the main road does not appear to be signposted but its fairly obvious. The waterfalls can be reached in two ways both of which are enjoyable. Walking in from the parking area which involves Cross the river around 5 times or taking a cart pulled by a carabao, which is a pretty unique experience. the river is fairly fast and mostly knee deep. The walk to the falls is flats and fairly easy. The falls themselves are fairly popular so arrive early to avoid crowds. Very attractive spot with lots of swimming, surprisingly clean.
Simon G — Google review
Highlights: • A truly authentic experience riding a Carabao, the national animal of the Philippines. • Stunning natural scenery—waterfalls, birds, a river, and lush palm trees. • Serene and peaceful, with no other tourists around when we visited. • Glad they haven’t modernized the place, preserving its raw beauty. • No animal cruelty involved, as the Carabao only travels twice a day. Lowlights: • Upon arrival, my husband and I were immediately surrounded by three women bombarding us with fees—parking, entrance, Carabao ride, etc. • Once we agreed on pricing, they called our driver, prepared the cart, and suddenly said, “Ma’am, we will all go with you.” This left us confused—why did three people need to tag along when we weren’t even trekking? • At the falls, they aggressively upsold food. We weren’t hungry yet, but they insisted we must order now since grilling takes time. We declined three times, but they wouldn’t let it go, so we gave in. • The three women followed us everywhere—to the falls, up the falls, and even to our cottage, just watching us swim. • During lunch, they stood around us, fanning away flies. We told them we were fine and wanted to enjoy our meal in peace, but they wouldn’t stop. • After eating, one of them sat beside me and said, “Ma’am, this is our only livelihood. The three of us guided and assisted you, and at the end of the trip, it’s up to you how much you can give us.” To me, this felt like a scam—we never asked for a guide, let alone three people shadowing us the entire time. I always tip and am more than happy to do so, but I don’t appreciate being pressured with guilt poverty poor stories. Tukuran Falls is still worth visiting—just be aware of these so-called ‘tour guides.’ I would rate it 5 stars if I didn't experience these tour guides!
Gen D — Google review
The scenic spot is very natural and can only be reached by trekking through mountains and rivers
Winfred C — Google review
It was a fantastic adventure traveling through the rivers in an oxcart. You're accompanied by at least one guide and taken directly to the waterfall. Don't worry about being ripped off; you tip according to your own discretion. They help you find the right path and a place to sit. If you wish, they'll also get you a drink on site. Overall, the value for money is excellent. Unfortunately, there were severe storms during my visit, so swimming wasn't possible.

25min walkable from falls And 15mins ride by carabao at the main entrance. Its your choice which one you like.We choose by our feet to getting there. Its fun trekking, easy trek 1/5 , just scorching weather during that time.we pass by 5-6 rivers. Must wear comfy water shoes/sandals . For entrance fee its cost 50 pesos only.Rivers are clear and clean and u can swim. At the Main entrance of waterfalls there is a small souvenir shop and food to eat but pricey. Enjoy your trekking!

We went out here a little bit late, so we couldn't follow anyone and were a little lost to begin with. But actually just follow the river to the left after the village and you'll find it. We wanted to take the Ox cart, but couldn't do it because the condition of the ox. They put a rope through the nose and control it that way. It's an extreme pain for the ox. So we walked. It took about half an hour and it was beautiful. We met the women that works in the regrestri, she was on the way home. But she walked back with us to show us what is dangerous.. And she was really nice. The place is just beautiful.

This was a nice surprise! The walk to the falls are through river beds, taking about 15-20m. My 7 year daughter had a blast walking there. The falls are really pretty, you can swim in the large pools. I am pleased to say they are very clean. Worth the visit. (Take sunscreen)

Awesome waterfall! Very cool waters on a hot sunny day! Had a blast swimming under the waterfall and enjoying free back massage from the rushing falling waters! Serene and beautiful environs! Big rocks with character! Charming people ready to assist visitors on foot climbing the rocks and on waters on the way to the waterfall. Enjoyable carabao ride, slowly traversing the river and the lush trees and vegetation along the way!

we only ordered one T-bond but it is poorer than my expectations. It is like a Australia beef, more than US beef. Not my favour. Low CP value. Service is okay la. i required mustard but they forget. No air conditioner, so hot. But here is philippine . it like a “local” western restaurant.

I really like this place. The food is decent and above most places in the area. However, I really wish the owner would not argue about money with his employees. It's none of my business and it disturbs my eating enjoyment. Some things should be done behind closed doors.

Out of the Blue Resort and Villas is a laid-back beachfront accommodation in Puerto Galera, offering modest studios and villas for a relaxing stay. The resort provides easy access to Small La Laguna Beach, Big La Laguna Beach, and Sabang Beach. Guests can enjoy the outdoor pools, restaurant, bar, and hot tub while surrounded by a tropical garden and terrace. The accommodations are well-maintained with clean rooms and comfortable amenities.
If you’re ever in Puerto Galera, you have to check out Out of the Blue. I stayed there recently, and it was one of those trips where everything just felt right. The villas are gorgeous—huge, comfy, and with the kind of views that make you just sit there, coffee in hand, doing nothing but staring at the ocean. But the real highlight? The diving. They’re partnered with Action Divers, so everything is super smooth. I literally walked out of my room, got my gear sorted, and was underwater in no time. The dive sites here are insane—walls covered in colorful corals, schools of fish everywhere, and we even spotted a turtle just cruising along. The dive guides knew their stuff, too, so I felt totally safe the entire time. And the food—man, I still think about the meals at The Verandah. After a long dive, sitting there with a cold drink and a plate of something delicious, watching the sunset? Perfect way to end the day. Honestly, Out of the Blue just nails that balance of adventure and relaxation. If you ever want a mix of epic diving and a beautiful, laid-back place to stay, this is it.

We stayed at this resort for a week. We had the top vila. We had a fantastic time. The rooms were clean and spacious with great view of the ocean. The patio had comfortable chairs. Amazing view of the ocean, we got great sunrises and sunsets here. There are lot of stairs, it’s true, but it’s not that bad. We were there during off season so we were the only family for most of the week. Had 2 pools all to ourselves. Pools were great with views. Everything was clean and the staff went above and beyond. The power went out one time and the staff restored it within an hour or so. It felt quiet. Highly recommend this place. Plus, they have the Verandah restaurant and we really liked the food there.

Great hotel if you are diving in Puerto Galara. (I recommend Action Divers if your looking for personal attention and knowledgeable staff) Spacious rooms, daily housekeeping, refrigerators, hot tubs, pool, great restaurant, steps from the ocean and walking distance to Sabang beach. One of the nicest hotels in the area!

Great accommodation and service. The staff are friendly and go out of their way to make sure your holiday is something special. The Verandah restaurant serves the best seafood and delicious meals. Our stay at this hidden paradise was exceptional. Scuba diving around the area is superb! Waterfalls and pristine beaches are a scooter ride away...we highly recommend it.

Hotel is great, but beach is not. We stayed for a long weekend - the accommodations were very clean, the staff was extremely friendly and the food is definitely above average for the Philippines. If you're a diver, I would highly recommend this place. If you're just looking for a beach vacation, be warned that at high tide there really isn't a beach (along the whole beachfront, not just this hotel), and it is crammed with dive boats. The beach was a big disappointment for us (and our kids) - no place to play, no place to safely access the water, etc. Summary: Hotel is excellent and I highly recommend if you're planning to dive; but I don't recommend for a family beach getaway.
L S — Google review
I have been going to Puerto Galera since 2001. In my more recent stays there, I have booked myself into the Resort - Out of the Blue. The quality of the accommodation has always been top notch. I thought it could not get any better, however, with my recent visit I noted that the management have completely upgraded the menu and the running of their restaurant- the Verandah. The food and choices were always pretty good, but now with their new menu and overall changes with cooking techniques, it must be the best Resort restaurant in the Philippines. Big congrats to the team, I will certainly return! Of course the accommodations remain first class- always makes for a most pleasant tropical escape

Nice rooms but the places has a few fundamental issues. • Took one start away for it taking a pretty far walk to actually get to the hotel because it can only be accessed from the beach and has No wheelchair access. • Took one star for the price in relation to amenities. Our suites hottub didn’t work well and the rooms could use some updating it was pricey for what we received and the location. Everything else: Great super accommodating staff, the best complimentary breakfast I’ve ever had, away from 5-7 walk away from Sabang but you still have to walk through it to actually go places which may make for some awkward conversations if you’re taking kids but for just a quick couple getaway it’s nice.
Kevin A — Google review
Great location, extremely friendly and helpful staff and clean, spacious room with plenty of amenities. It's a short walk to Sabang beach or Big Lalaguna and the reception were more than happy to organise tours and transport. There is also a free, daily laundry service (up to 1kg each day). We ate at the restaurant a couple of times and found them to be very accommodating to dietary needs (e.g. vegetarian). Also, the dive centre next door (and part of the resort), Action Divers, were great too. Safety is taken very seriously and equipment was new and maintained well. Also willing to accommodate dive requests and not overcrowded like other boats we saw. Would stay here again and also dive with them again.

Resto Veranda offers a culinary experience that highlights the diverse and rich flavors of Filipino cuisine. The menu features a variety of options, including fresh seafood, hearty meat dishes, and vibrant vegetarian choices. Classic Filipino dishes like adobo and sinigang are given a modern twist, while innovative creations showcase the chefs' skills. Additionally, the restaurant also serves European, Mediterranean, and International dishes in a beachside setting.
A fantastic restaurant—no pushy staff trying to lure you in, and since it’s located a bit further down White Beach, it was a bit quieter. We chose to have the tenderloin with rosemary potatoes. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to take a photo before we started eating, but wow, it was absolutely delicious! The chef (possibly the owner) even came out to ask how the food was—that’s great service. The meat was incredibly tender. Of course, prices on White Beach are a bit higher, but it was well worth the money. In Sweden, you’d easily pay twice as much for a steak like that. Highly recommend a visit! We’ll definitely be back to try the seafood next time.

Great Beachside Dining Experience Despite noticing that some dishes seemed pre-prepared to ensure quick service, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality and service at this beachside restaurant. The staff were friendly, and a gentleman who appeared to be the chef checked on us during both of our lunch visits to ensure we were enjoying our experience. It was a safe place to eat and enjoy a pleasant moment with a view of the sea, free from the disturbance of street vendors. The combination of good food, attentive service, and a relaxing atmosphere made it a memorable dining experience.

Luca's Cucina Italiana & Lodge is a well-liked Italian eatery that offers stunning vistas of Talipanan Beach. Delight in the popular pizza or choose from their assortment of pasta dishes, ranging from simple aglio olio to pesto alla genovese, bolognese, or marina. Their menu also includes an array of seafood options, cheese selections, and sandwiches. The coffee is highly enjoyable, and the pizzas are sizeable.
Ate at this restaurant a few times and each time the food was incredible. Absolutely delicious Italian place and best prices around!! Bit shocked to see that it doesn't have 5 stars already! Beautiful pets strolling about, as is the case with most places in South East Asia. Does not affect the food/hygiene of the restaurant, just adds to the charm :)

Awesome restaurant right on the beach. The beach is all sand and it's kept very clean. The ocean there is great for children, and the kids can walk out pretty far. If you don’t like food and/or life in general by all means flush your money and potentially gastrointestinal health down the drain of this animal-rescue-shelter-cum-restaurant. First, the ambiance: beautiful beach view but the seating area is overrun by malnourished cats and mangy dogs. Risk of canine contagion. Second, the service. Friendly but exceptionally incompetent. The food took an hour+ though there was only one other party in the restaurant when we placed our order. The waiter and/or kitchen staff forgot one of our salads. The calamansi juice I ordered came out AFTER the main courses and was disappeared from the table by our waiter before I drank one sip of it. Now: the, ahem, “food”. It appears the restaurant’s primary aim is to save on their pet food budget by having patrons feed what they order to the resident animal population as it’s mostly unfit for human consumption. I had to send the fried calamari back to the kitchen as it tasted like week-old fish. Their specialty, tuna salad, was highlighted by yellow-green unripe tomatoes and canned tuna. The pizza was, in fact, edible and greatly enhanced by the specially ordered addition of tomato sauce. Conclusion: dine here at your own risk! :)

Pizza and pasta were really good. Portions are huge. More than enough for a meal. The view is excellent. We were there just for the restaurant and the beach and not the lodge.

Really good and cheap food. Read a review before coming here about it being a risk to your health and an animal rescue shelter. Completely disrespectful and wrong

Jack Daniel Apartments and Restaurant is a popular spot in Oriental Mindoro, known for its great music and delicious barbecue and British cuisine. The restaurant is located in a condo complex and offers amazing BBQ ribs. The apartments are comfortable with a friendly crew, though some maintenance is needed. The area is home to the Mangyan people who engage in subsistence agriculture and sell cash crops.
Fantastic location for anyone visiting Sabang, Puerto Galera. Right in the centre of town but sheltered from any noise, 24/7 generator, pool and a great restaurant. Definitely the best location to stay.

I do not recommend this hotel for light sleepers or anyone sensitive to their sleeping environment. 1. The air conditioning is very old and noisy, with poor cooling performance. It takes a long time to cool down the room. In the duplex room, the first floor is just bearable, but the second floor is extremely hot. 2. There is no elevator, and you have to carry your luggage up several flights of stairs to reach the room. 3. The swimming pool is also quite small and underwhelming.

The food from the restaurant was so delicious that I didn't even need to look for other places to eat. The bar has great vibe and tasty drinks. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Puerto Galera.

We had a great stay at Jack Daniels apartments and Restaurants. it's the perfect hideout if you like the comfort of your own home, with your own fridge and kitchen utilities. The staff was welcoming and friendly with a super fast and clean laundry service and if you ask The have excellent services. The swimming pool gives you your refreshment and it's near the cosy bar. The apartment was very clean and it's interior well designed. they are very reasonably priced too for luxury apartments with a breath taking view from the top

I'm a permanent resident here in the Philippines. Decided to live long-term at Jack Daniel's Apartments and Restaurant for the price, amenities and location. From the office staff to the restaurant, housekeeping and maintenance staff all are very friendly and help.

Definitely recommend, great price-quality. They also offer long term stays. We enjoyed our 5 night day at Jack Daniels. Reliable and fast internet connection across the whole place. Room was spacious and had a table with chairs. Staff were great, cheerful and accommodating. Facilitates were clean and well maintained including the pool area and gardens around the apartments. Pool side bar and restaurant was usually quiet but had a great atmosphere.
