Museum Tsunami Aceh is a poignant tribute to the victims and survivors of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami disaster. It stands as a symbolic center in Aceh, commemorating the approximately 170,000 lives lost during the catastrophic event. The museum's design includes waterfalls that replicate the destructive force of the tsunami, providing visitors with a visceral understanding of its impact. Inside, exhibits feature videos and news reports documenting this tragic period in Aceh's history.
Very interesting museum with informative stories during the big Tsunami which destroyed Banda Aceh and beyond. The museum also informed of not only human who helped during the disaster but also animals like the elephants. They were hardworking. We went to all the 3 floors of the museum. Beautiful museum with some areas enclosed and others open. There's also drinks and souvenirs shop, library and other artefacts which was left behind 21yrs ago. There's many visitors so parking is difficult in the building itself, but there's another side parking area that we can park and it cost Rp5000.

Definitely worth checking out when you’re in Banda Aceh. It stands as a solemn yet inspiring tribute to the victims and survivors of the catastrophic 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. The building’s wave-like structure and traditional Acehnese motifs reflect both the natural disaster and the resilience of the local culture. Opened in 2009, the museum serves multiple purposes: it is a place of remembrance, an educational hub, and even a vertical evacuation center in case of future tsunamis. Inside, visitors can experience a simulation corridor that recreates the terrifying moments of the tsunami with sound, darkness, and water effects. Exhibits include emotional survivor testimonies, photos, videos, and detailed explanations of the earthquake and tsunami phenomena. A memorial wall lists the names of those who perished, offering a quiet space for reflection. More than just a museum, it is a poignant reminder of the power of nature and the strength of community in the face of tragedy.

Visiting the Tsunami Museum in Aceh was a powerful and emotional experience. The museum is beautifully designed to honor the memory of the 2004 tsunami and the lives it affected. From the moment you enter, the sound of rushing water and the unique architecture create a strong emotional atmosphere. The exhibits are informative and touching, featuring photos, videos, survivor stories, and historical details. It helps you truly understand the scale of the tragedy and the strength of the Acehnese people in rebuilding their lives. The entry ticket is very cheap, which makes it even more accessible for everyone. This place is not just educational, but deeply meaningful. If you’re in Banda Aceh, you absolutely must visit. It’s an experience you’ll never forget.

Touch our hearts if you really explore this museum. Wonderful stories pertaining to the catastrophe. You may need to purchase ticket to enter the museum. Each person is Rupiah 20K for foreigners. There are 3 floors for the exhibition. Each floor full of photos describing the situation and replicas. There is also a room for you to watch the tsunami video for about 9 minutes.

We visited this museum during morning. It's a huge and the design is beautiful. There were not many people during our visit. This museum illustrated on the huge tsunami tragedy in 2004. There are many artifacts, information, and footage available regarding to the horrific tragedy. It's the close experience from what happened on 2004 where you can see and feel. But ff course it's not the same and you can't compare with the real event. The best thing to do is to take a lesson from what happen and say your prayer for those who lost their life during that day. The museum is clean and the staffs is nice to. Be aware of the operating hour of this museum before coming. Such a wonderful experience and a must visit place for tourist. You are not consider visiting to Acheh if you didn't come to this museum.

Museum PLTD Apung is a poignant reminder of the destructive force of the 2004 tsunami. This former power-supply ship was carried inland by the tsunami and now stands as a monument to those who lost their lives. Visitors can explore the ship, climb aboard, and take in panoramic views of Banda Aceh from its lookouts. The ship was originally meant to provide electricity to Ulee Lhue area with 10.
Its a good place to memorize on how a tremendous things were happened at past where over than 160.000 people were killed by tsunami and for this electricity generator boat weight 2600 tons were dragged up to 5 km from the shore. However it was seems the place is not well taken care off by the management.
Gusti B — Google review
It's a small area where you can see the ship from outside and around the gate. This generator ship floated inwards during Tsunami 21yrs ago and still remain there. Not many people during our visit there. The carpark space is very little but there's a lot of souvenir shops around the area..
Noorzidah N — Google review
The best museum, full of history. Very opened my eyes and perspectives. New experiences with my classmates. Here, you will know exactly how the tragedy happened. Tour guide bestt!! Explain buat kita faham
NAJAH Z — Google review
It's a museum located quite deep inside the housing area in a form Huge vessel. This is what the 2004 tsunami does to this creature. It is well maintained, changed from a shop to become a museum. A very informative insight from the proof and leftover. The view from the top is also very beautiful. You can see a mosque, a mountain and Acheh town from a far. There are many visitors come here for a visit. Also a must visit spot if you come to Banda Acheh. There are also few small souvenir shops located at the entrance of this Museum. The price is cheap and negotiable compared to what you can find in the town. The service is also good.
Hafizun M — Google review
It is a museum for you to understand how badly the Tsunami hit this city. How powerful is the Tsunami that can bring up such a large ship ashore.
Pas N — Google review
You are able to free roam or with a guide. However, becareful that some parts might not be maintained.
Luqman H — Google review
We spent about an hour here. The ticket price is IDR 3000 per person for foreigners. You need to do bank transfer or via QR code as no cash is allowed. The ship has 3 stages and you need to take stairs to go up. Surroundings are fenced as a historical landmark of tsunami disaster that is occurred on 26th December 2004. Most of the houses are destroyed during the tsunami.

Museum Aceh, located on Sultan Alaidin Mahmud Syah Street, offers a rich display of Aceh's culture and history. Housed in a traditional building, the museum showcases various artifacts such as ceramics, weapons, clothing, jewelry, calligraphy, Islamic ornaments, and kitchen equipment. One of its notable exhibits is the Lonceng Cakra Donya bell from the 15th century.

If international travellers are part of the target to educate people, the museum must improve signage in more than just Indonesian. There are a few posts in English but international guests are mostly left to imagine from the displays or try google translate which become cumbersome. Otherwise ot is a lovely spot to visit to get a sense of traditional archetecture and the diversity of aceh culture.

Loved the place but it lacks explanations in English. Only had displays in Bahasa. There were some albeit very few exhibitions in English.

Ulee Lheue Beach is a picturesque destination located in Ulee Lheue Village, near Banda Aceh City. It offers stunning sea views and is easily accessible by various means of transportation. The beach comes alive in the afternoon with street vendors offering delicious local food like chicken satay and fresh coconuts. Visitors can also explore nearby attractions such as Gunongan, Putroe Phang Park, and enjoy fresh seafood from eateries while watching the sunset.
The Beach and Ulee-Lheue Area in Aceh are captivating destinations that attract many tourists. Surrounded by stunning natural landscapes, the beach offers soft white sand and clear blue waters. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking sunsets while relaxing on the shore or exploring on traditional fishing boats, enhancing their exotic experience. The surrounding area also features seafood eateries serving fresh dishes from Acehnese waters. With its tranquil and welcoming atmosphere, Ulee-Lheue is an ideal place for travelers seeking peace and unspoiled natural beauty.
Syatria P — Google review
I still remember 17 years ago when I came to this place a week after the Tsunami that devastated Aceh, including this beautiful beach. Now Ulee Lheue has become a favorite place by local residents for leisure, especially in the afternoon until dusk or Maghrib prayer. The view during sunset is really amazing when the position of the sun is between the end hills of Bukit Barisan. The sea waves are not big because the beach is surrounded by breakwaters. So we can take a walk along the white sandy beach, swim or enjoy a duck paddle ride with our partner, family or friends. There are also culinary outlets where the prices for food and drinks are inexpensive. What needs to be fixed here are the problem of garbage everywhere and the orderliness of the vehicle parking.

Taman Sari Gunongan (Jawoë script: تامن ساري ڬونوڠن) or "Taman Putroe Phang" is a garden of the Aceh Darussalam Kingdom built by Sultan Iskandar Muda (1607-1636) for his queen, Putroe Phang, from the Pahang Kingdom. The park's original name was Taman Ghairah, as mentioned in the Bustanus Salatin book. The garden was built because the Sultan deeply loved the Princess of Pahang and so that the queen would not be lonely while he was away running the government. Noodle shop
Mie Razali is a renowned noodle restaurant and an iconic establishment in Banda Aceh. It is highly recommended for visitors to the city, whether on vacation or visiting family. The restaurant offers a variety of noodle dishes such as fried noodles, boiled noodles, and noodle soup, along with options like rice, martabak, cones, and various beverages.
The Famous Aceh Noodles Shop, if you wonder what its taste like , its almost the same like “chicken Noodle” with alot sauce. But not to spicy 🌶. I suggest you to order “Mie Rusa” or “Mie Daging” for the first time. To quench your thirst, is suggested cold ice tea and “martabe” juice. Price rate is reasonable cheap. Overall tasted really good 👍🏻.
Arno F — Google review
Overly hyped but in reality it's just mediocre. Yes, ex president Jokowi might dine here before, but that's about it. It's just too viral, lots of posting about this place on Google & etc. But I've been to many places that serve better Mie Aceh than here. I do not recommend this place. Also, hygiene is not very prioritised here. Seems like cleanliness is not done properly. Difficult to find parking. The price per noodle is IDR 50K, slightly overpriced. The toilet is very dirty. Service is slow.
Wenny V — Google review
The noodle is just okay. Service is very very slow and they forgot to process our drinks after taking order. Ample carpark space. Lots of other eateries next to each other and around the area.
Noorzidah N — Google review
Though the taste is not to what we expected, it is still a delicious comfort food. We didnt get to try the Crab Mie Aceh as it is sold out.
IUVA S — Google review
We are quite disappointed by the mie honestly. This is our first meal at Banda Acheh and it leave us with a low standard on foods in Acheh. The mie is just average, price is reasonable and the portion is normal. There are a lot of customers eat here and we thought it is marvelous and they are proud with their long existence history and reputation as one of the best mie in Acheh. But yeah it did reach our expectation. The service is also normal take some time for our foods to arrive. The worker is okay and the hygiene of the restaurant can be improved. The restaurant is quite okay if you want to come over and hangout or bring family. Lots of seating available here. Come on, you guys should raise your standard.

The food was great. I ordered Mie Aceh Campur, which has all toppings from beef, shrimp, squid, and a small crab. As in, a whole crab. The portion was good, and the noodle was well spiced. I also ordered cucumber juice, and that was very refreshing, I love it! But..... A bit too sweet. I should have asked for less sweet.

Seafood restaurant
Banda Seafood is a dining spot located in Jl.Teungku Angkasa, Kecamatan Kuta Alam, Banda Aceh. It offers a variety of reasonably priced seafood dishes such as rice, soup, shrimp, lobster, fish, squid, vegetables, crab and chicken. This place is bustling during the fasting month for iftar.
Reasonably priced with good food. The tax and service charges are already included in the menu prices, which is great. The seafood platter is nice and just right for two people.

Im not sure about others. But from my experience, if you want to come without tour arrangement, please call the restaurant to pre-order. Overall food is OK. Restaurant location is quite far from city centre. We are lucky on that day, we can get grab back to the hotel. Otherwise, we need to wait longer because the restaurant business is for group tour. We are here, because our hotel reception suggested us this place. There is also musolla for prayer.

They provided variety of seafood dish, starting from fish, shrimp, squid, crab, shellfish along with a menu of vegetables and snacks. One portion of food was big enough for 3 - 4 people to share. I recommend to order black pepper soft shell crab, butter shrimp, crab with Padang sauce. This restaurant is open until 11pm and accepts credit card payments (not many restaurants in Banda Aceh accept credit card payments)

This place is really one of the kind that you could find good quality of seafood. We order the chicken dish, fried with traditional herbs, fish of choice with steaming, grilled shrimp with sauces, and three vegetable dishes, the broccoli, the watercress, and the soup asparagus. This is really the best meal that we have so far in Aceh and I am very pleased to visit here for the second time since our visit first in 2014. Also, it is just along the riverside where we really could enjoy our dishes with the beautiful scenery aside us.

Bu Sie Itek Bireuen Ustadz Heri is a popular dish in Aceh known for its aromatic and flavorful duck curry. The dish is made with a blend of herbs such as temurui and koja leaves, giving it a unique taste. While some find the duck to be small compared to other places, others enjoy the flavor and character of the curry. In addition to the delicious duck curry, they also serve tasty ayam tangkap and fried chicken at an affordable price.
Slight expensive (100k +) for all the food you see in my picture - fellow Malaysian here just asked for 1 pax of itik which was recommended and end up getting a full set of everything. Ayam bakar and putih taste the best. Service was amazing they knew I needed tissue before I ask for it, only down side is place seem a bit unclean and there’s a lot of mosquitoes and flies

Some would love, the other would just say, it's okay. What i found was, the duck curry (Sie Itek) has a unique flavor and has its own characters. What i do find problematic, the duck is extremely small if compared to other competitors, you definitely need another two or three pieces of their ducks. I find the place can be much cleaner.
Ronny H — Google review
The curry was flavourful but the duck meat could have been a bit softer. Their ayam tangkap were delicious but sadly too small. I went through three pieces of chicken within a matter of seconds. And get ready to ask for second servings of rice. You'll need it.

From the soul-warming "kuah belangong" to the crispy delight of "sie reboh goreng", every bite is a journey through tradition and taste. The cozy ambiance feels like stepping into a cherished home, complete with the convenience of parking at the back.
