Very interesting museum with informative stories during the big Tsunami which destroyed Banda Aceh and beyond. The museum also informed of not only human who helped during the disaster but also animals like the elephants. They were hardworking. We went to all the 3 floors of the museum. Beautiful museum with some areas enclosed and others open. There's also drinks and souvenirs shop, library and other artefacts which was left behind 21yrs ago. There's many visitors so parking is difficult in the building itself, but there's another side parking area that we can park and it cost Rp5000.
Definitely worth checking out when you’re in Banda Aceh. It stands as a solemn yet inspiring tribute to the victims and survivors of the catastrophic 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. The building’s wave-like structure and traditional Acehnese motifs reflect both the natural disaster and the resilience of the local culture. Opened in 2009, the museum serves multiple purposes: it is a place of remembrance, an educational hub, and even a vertical evacuation center in case of future tsunamis. Inside, visitors can experience a simulation corridor that recreates the terrifying moments of the tsunami with sound, darkness, and water effects. Exhibits include emotional survivor testimonies, photos, videos, and detailed explanations of the earthquake and tsunami phenomena. A memorial wall lists the names of those who perished, offering a quiet space for reflection. More than just a museum, it is a poignant reminder of the power of nature and the strength of community in the face of tragedy.
Visiting the Tsunami Museum in Aceh was a powerful and emotional experience. The museum is beautifully designed to honor the memory of the 2004 tsunami and the lives it affected. From the moment you enter, the sound of rushing water and the unique architecture create a strong emotional atmosphere. The exhibits are informative and touching, featuring photos, videos, survivor stories, and historical details. It helps you truly understand the scale of the tragedy and the strength of the Acehnese people in rebuilding their lives. The entry ticket is very cheap, which makes it even more accessible for everyone. This place is not just educational, but deeply meaningful. If you’re in Banda Aceh, you absolutely must visit. It’s an experience you’ll never forget.
Touch our hearts if you really explore this museum. Wonderful stories pertaining to the catastrophe. You may need to purchase ticket to enter the museum. Each person is Rupiah 20K for foreigners. There are 3 floors for the exhibition. Each floor full of photos describing the situation and replicas. There is also a room for you to watch the tsunami video for about 9 minutes.
We visited this museum during morning. It's a huge and the design is beautiful. There were not many people during our visit. This museum illustrated on the huge tsunami tragedy in 2004. There are many artifacts, information, and footage available regarding to the horrific tragedy. It's the close experience from what happened on 2004 where you can see and feel. But ff course it's not the same and you can't compare with the real event. The best thing to do is to take a lesson from what happen and say your prayer for those who lost their life during that day. The museum is clean and the staffs is nice to. Be aware of the operating hour of this museum before coming. Such a wonderful experience and a must visit place for tourist. You are not consider visiting to Acheh if you didn't come to this museum.
It is a good museum with unique architecture. Different rooms are designed to depict part of the tsunami experience. I like the vibe and unique experience here.
An interesting museum with Audio Visual in play. You feel as if you are experiencing it through cleverly and thoughtful exhibition of the Boxing Day Tsunami. Its a thought provoking exhibits.
You must visit this place, not only how to cherish the spirit of humanity but also to remind ourself how beautiful life is and how to be grateful.

A very beautiful mosque and very serene. Even though it's a hot day, the floor area of the mosque is not hot as they were made of marble tiles. Lots of group inside the mosque reading and memorizing the Quran. Very nice to hear the rhythm when the teachers and kids reciting the Quran. There's also the minaret which was turned into a small museum. We have to pay to get to the top floor - storey 6th and 7th to take pictures of surrounding areas. Carpark is underground and it's very spacious. This mosque was not affected by the Tsunami flood because it was built quite high about 1m high.
I'm Fallin love with this mosque. With its historical, it's really spiritual message for Islamic people. Unfortunately the toilet are lacking maintenance and the electrical big umbrella are still under maintenance. Hope Aceh people can keep the mosque and still beautifull
All I can say is this mosque is a sign of miracle. It's a must visit place if you come to Banda Acheh. Truly a beautiful mosque with great architecture and strong structure. The mosque is huge, clean and more importantly very calmful.
A very grand and beautiful mosque. There are 2 entrances at the north and south ends of the compound. You are required to take off your footage before entering the compound and you will be given a number tag to retrieve your shoes when you are done. Must go!
tips: you need to take off your shoes before entering the mosque compound. There’s a guy who will pass you a ticket with the tray number. And you should be dressed in covered top and long pants. Masjid Raya Baiturrahman, located in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, is one of the country’s most iconic and historically significant mosques. It stands as a symbol of the spirituality, culture, and resilience of the Acehnese people. The mosque blends Mughal and colonial architectural styles. Its striking black domes are made of hardwood shingles, and the interior features marble pillars, Belgian stained glass windows, and grand bronze chandeliers. The mosque famously withstood the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. While much of Banda Aceh was destroyed, the mosque remained intact and served as a refuge for many survivors, further solidifying its importance in the hearts of the people.
During my stay in Banda Aceh, I prayed many times at Masjid Raya Baiturrahman, truly one of the most iconic and meaningful landmarks in the city. This mosque is not just a place of worship, but also a miracle of history, as it stood strong during the devastating 2004 tsunami while much of the city around it was destroyed. The mosque is very spacious and beautiful, with stunning architecture and a peaceful atmosphere. Beneath the mosque, there’s a huge underground parking area that can hold hundreds of cars and motorcycles, which makes it very convenient for visitors. If you’re in Banda Aceh, visiting this mosque is a must, for prayer, reflection, or simply to admire its powerful presence and history.
It is a large building, but with mostly simple design and decorations on exterior and interior. Relief is mostly cast not carved. More Muslim symbolic than visual appeal. Must cover-up skin to enter grounds. Non-Muslims not allowed in mosque.
If you know about history of Banda Acheh, you definitely will come to this mosque. All what can I say is this mosque is a sign of miracle. One of the place that must visit if come to Banda Acheh.

Beautiful beach, and there are a lot of places to eat here. There's some part of it for fishing too.
One of the great beach in Aceh Province. Located in Aceh Besar district, need 30 minutes from Aceh city center.
Actually I've went here for around 2 to three times and this is my visit together with Amanda, Ivy, and Angela. And this is also my first time, really dig into that water, that amazing sea. It's so fun and the waves are so amazing! It's a really pleasant afternoon and the temperature of the sea water is just as fine and cooling. However, I could feel the wind and also the waves which I never experienced before. But it was just a much of fun and I was so busy swimming here and there. There's also banana boat on the sea where you could pay for several rides. However, you could just swim and enjoy the heavenly like beach and the sea. And of course, if stay in one of the shelter, you must order some grilled fish or shrimp, for a taste. It's the best of the world.
The beach is located inside of the city so not really far from the center of the city. It was pretty clean cause not many people come to this beach though it was a peak season. One of the best part going to this beach is if you are lucky enough, your way will blocked by herd of cows and it is kinda fun seeing those cows blocked the way.
Hands down the best beach with the most "luxurious" vibes i've ever been to. Really hope i get to come back with my family again someday!
This beach is awesome. It is a public beach with a private beach feels. Not too crowded with a clear tosca water and the waves is friendly. The view is nice with a hills and rock mountain. The facilities such as toilet and restaurant is available nearby and it only cost you 3000 rupiah to get into this gems. About 30 menit from banda aceh
worth it from banda aceh to here its only takes 30min & so so worth it. Love everythings here! ✨
My favorite beach so far. White sand, clear blue water, and fantastic view. The first time I came here was 2008, 4 years after the Tsunami. There was nothing here as far I remember, only bushes and pine trees. But now, they have several facilities related to tourism; small wooden gazebos where you can enjoy freshly grilled fish, prayer room, restroom. Even though it is still minimal, I definitely will come again.

The ship on board the Aceh Tsunami Silent Witness House. Here we can meet the survivors directly because of standing or taking shelter on the boat
A boat has been parked on top of a house's roof since 2004 tsunami happened in Indonesia. The boat is sort of a small ship with 59 people on board it by the time of the incident, sadly not everyone managed to survive.
This boat on the roof of a house saved a number of tsunami survivors. The lady who was there told us of how the boat saved her life. Her house was also wiped out. The boat was in a jetty out at sea but somehow came and rested on the roof of this house which belongs to a director of an oil company. The owner also survived but stayed in Medan. The boat served as a reminder of the disaster that befell 21 yrs ago. There's a remembrance wall of the names of the people who died during tsunami 2004 in Aceh.
It lies at Banda Aceh. The history of this boat is that it happened during big tsunami hit Aceh. You can see how strong the house is. The eyewitness, Mak Kolak, will be happy to describe that tragedy. Please buy some souvenirs from local people. Your contribution might help them. Be nice to local people. Wear appropriate clothes during your visit to the Banda Aceh area. They're good moslems. I'm not moslem. But I respect their religious and customs
Such a memorial place, this huge boat stuck above the people houses and remain until now. One of the house owner managed to survive and able to tell us their life stories that happened on tsunami day. There is a souvenir shop at the entrance of the area, it has become their income sources to build their economy.
It's one of Tsunami site in Banda Aceh. You will find a boat on the roof as a proof how huge the Tsunami disaster was. The location of this site is in a crowded community village houses. You can come here at any day. Tourists around the world have visited this place so many time. All I can say about this place is historical, educational and memorable. See you at Boat on the ROOF!!!

Its a good place to memorize on how a tremendous things were happened at past where over than 160.000 people were killed by tsunami and for this electricity generator boat weight 2600 tons were dragged up to 5 km from the shore. However it was seems the place is not well taken care off by the management.
It's a small area where you can see the ship from outside and around the gate. This generator ship floated inwards during Tsunami 21yrs ago and still remain there. Not many people during our visit there. The carpark space is very little but there's a lot of souvenir shops around the area..
The best museum, full of history. Very opened my eyes and perspectives. New experiences with my classmates. Here, you will know exactly how the tragedy happened. Tour guide bestt!! Explain buat kita faham
It's a museum located quite deep inside the housing area in a form Huge vessel. This is what the 2004 tsunami does to this creature. It is well maintained, changed from a shop to become a museum. A very informative insight from the proof and leftover. The view from the top is also very beautiful. You can see a mosque, a mountain and Acheh town from a far. There are many visitors come here for a visit. Also a must visit spot if you come to Banda Acheh. There are also few small souvenir shops located at the entrance of this Museum. The price is cheap and negotiable compared to what you can find in the town. The service is also good.
It is a museum for you to understand how badly the Tsunami hit this city. How powerful is the Tsunami that can bring up such a large ship ashore.
You are able to free roam or with a guide. However, becareful that some parts might not be maintained.
We spent about an hour here. The ticket price is IDR 3000 per person for foreigners. You need to do bank transfer or via QR code as no cash is allowed. The ship has 3 stages and you need to take stairs to go up. Surroundings are fenced as a historical landmark of tsunami disaster that is occurred on 26th December 2004. Most of the houses are destroyed during the tsunami.
Worth visiting. Shows the grandiosity of the tsunami. Good diagrams and information.

One of the green space that you have to visit. Have a good view, history and spot for taking picture 😂
Putroe Phang Park is the park of the Kingdom of Aceh Darussalam which was founded by Sultan Iskandar Muda (1607-1636) for his empress Putroe Phang who came from the Kingdom of Pahang. The original name of this park is Taman Ghairah as mentioned in the Bustanus Salatin book. This park was built because the sultan really loved Princess Pahang and so that the empress would not be lonely when the sultan lived the government. The construction of the park is said to have been a request from Putroe Phang, the king's daughter, who was brought to Aceh by Sultan Iskandar Muda after the conquest of the Pahang kingdom. Inside this park, there is the Pinto Khop, a small dome-shaped gate that is the door that connects the garden to the palace. Pinto Khop is a place to rest for Princess Phang, after being tired of swimming, it is located not far from Gunongan, where the ladies wash her hair. There is also a pond for the empress to wash her hair and take a flower bath. Source: Wikipedia
It was nice trip to visit Putro Phang Park
Nice place for family activity, community and so lonely
A good place to explore. Taman sari in Aceh is like Taman Sari in Yogyakarta. They were used by king and his wife for their happy time.
Nothing much to see, just a mausoleum and small hill. The wonder of it is the playhill was using egg white as the glue.

The Beach and Ulee-Lheue Area in Aceh are captivating destinations that attract many tourists. Surrounded by stunning natural landscapes, the beach offers soft white sand and clear blue waters. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking sunsets while relaxing on the shore or exploring on traditional fishing boats, enhancing their exotic experience. The surrounding area also features seafood eateries serving fresh dishes from Acehnese waters. With its tranquil and welcoming atmosphere, Ulee-Lheue is an ideal place for travelers seeking peace and unspoiled natural beauty.
I still remember 17 years ago when I came to this place a week after the Tsunami that devastated Aceh, including this beautiful beach. Now Ulee Lheue has become a favorite place by local residents for leisure, especially in the afternoon until dusk or Maghrib prayer. The view during sunset is really amazing when the position of the sun is between the end hills of Bukit Barisan. The sea waves are not big because the beach is surrounded by breakwaters. So we can take a walk along the white sandy beach, swim or enjoy a duck paddle ride with our partner, family or friends. There are also culinary outlets where the prices for food and drinks are inexpensive. What needs to be fixed here are the problem of garbage everywhere and the orderliness of the vehicle parking.
its amazing here!!!!! especially to watch sunset! and you can accompany yourself with delicious street food :)
Nice place to Jogging, Hangout and Enjoying. Awesome.
Cozy place to hangout with friends Serving good views
The beach is quite good. But it lacks basic amenities. I hope the government of Aceh invest some money and make it good for public.
Family friendly, kid friendly, nice place but in my opinion, visitors here are plebeian. Love the beach as i love one of the citizen in the region

I went here accidentally. When I went to Aceh, this tomb is not at my list of visiting. But afterwards this tomb became my first visit during my holiday in Aceh. So im planning to visit nearby tourism place, but get lost to this tomb. Miracle happened I'm not Moslem. When I go pray to my religion, I got insight to take one of the small rock (yeah this is actually prohibited), then give charity on the complex 50k rupiah. Firstly i took one small rock. Then thinking why should I gave 50k, too much. But.... At the end I gave 50k as well. 1. Inside the tomb 20k 2. At the holy water place 20k 3. For the man who take care the tomb 10k It is a miracle Then after 4 months. I got disease, I go to doctor but comes out of nothing. My body go more sick. At one night when I go pray, it is visible again on my pray the one whose I looked when I pray at Syeikh kuala tomb. He wear white t-shirt, use surban.. he said take the small rock you have taken before. After I take , I put on my hand, then pray to my God. Suddenly slowly but sure (takes time 3 days) my body get well again. And when I hold the rock, the rock very warm, meanwhile outside is cold. Believe it or not. But this is by the grace by God Allah through Syeikh Kuala. I promise to visit the tomb once again and give more support. NB I live at Eastern Indonesia. Very far.... Just hope by pray, u can be here very soon Thank , god blessing

One of the mosque that still survive during tsunami. Here you could see a "witnesses" from the ornaments building which still remain. Nice place to pray also,, oh there is also small house similar memorabilia place to show photos collection about the tragedy of tsunami that destroy the City
I came to visit this mosque in 2025.. it's foundation is still solid. And inside is beautiful
Nice area surrounded by villages which was built up by the countrymen of Turkiye. Mosque is very big and there's a big space for carpark. Very quiet place and near the sea.
I often guided friends of mine here when they were visiting Banda Aceh. This place is kind of sites of tsunami disaster in 2004. It also has a gallery of pictures and articles of newspaper which describe how catastrophic the earthquake and tsunami to the village around the Mosque. You can also find the old pillars inside the mosque building as the monument the tragedy. Other interesting story is about the moon and star ornament above the dome which is in tilted let it alone as the memorial how the waves of tsunami were over it.
A must visit place! Perform your solat sunat here make doa to remember those who have lost their lives in tsunami. A local rep will explain to you everything you need to know about the tragedy when you visit the gallery. So you don't need to read all the text there haha
The only building survive the Dec 2004 tsunami. The entire country was wiped out, but this mosque. Survivor said, the water touched the tip of the dome, the star and crescent symbol. The entire country/bay/villages wiped out, diminished, killed almost all of its inhabitants, but even the water did not touch the mosque's interior. Allaahu Akbar! Now the area remains empty. Majority of its people were dead. The remaining survivors, reluctant to stay there, although Turkey's government has built housings, complete with electricity, etc. The area shown in the picture was villages full of houses. Now it's just become green just recently. Previously, even trees didn't live. The tsunami water was said to be poisonous.
Many people around the world will know this place from Tv and newspaper reports on the tsunami and earthquake in Boxing Day 26th December 2004 the most destructive natural disaster in human history The heartbreak and tragedy this area has received is unparalleled. Most of the people in this town perished in the 2004 disaster but they have rebuilt. An interesting place the only building in this area that survived the wave was the mosque
The Masjid Rahmatullah Lampuuk was one of the many buildings in the region that was heavily damaged by the tsunami in 2004. The disaster, which struck on December 26th, caused widespread destruction and loss of life in Aceh, with the mosque being one of the buildings that was hit hardest. This is the miniature of Aceh which has various ethnic. You will find many kinds of Aceh traditional houses here. Once in a 5 years, there will be held Aceh Cultural festival week that provides cultural attractions from every regions in Aceh. You should come here to see how unique Aceh is.
I was here because of Pekan Raya Aceh which is held once in 4 years. The concept is like Taman Mini Indonesia where you can see a traditional house from all across Aceh. And also learn its culture one by one. But when i was there its so stuck people are screamin and we are so hrd to get in or put because its too crowded. Then nothing else to see
Mini park to see Aceh traditional house from all over places
If you go to Banda Aceh, make time to come here. this venue is usually held for a 5-year event, the Aceh Cultural Week. from 23 City Districts in Aceh will be represented at this event, because there are traditional houses from each City District so it looks like Taman Mini Indonesia Indah in Jakarta. but due to lack of supervision, until I write this review, this place lacks maintenance from related agencies
I came to this place with my colleague s and friends in Banda Aceh. This is the last day of the cultural event, where each region of Aceh represents, for every five year. That means I am pretty luck to be able to come here and experience it myself for such an event. I find it pretty interesting since it bring different cultural events and objectives, goods and products from different regions of Aceh. Which this kind of activities we now found very rare in Taiwan. The dance performance was super attracting. And the food and coffee, gayo coffee, are the most comforting as always. Today is the last day and today is the closing. You should not miss any chance to visit it! Go! Go! Go! Now.
Banda Aceh does not really have many parks. Unlike others this one is not too crowded, unless an event is being held there. That is the plus point. Other than that, meh.

Masha Allah Tabarakallah waht a beautiful beach white sands. It was early in the morning at 7 beeing here to feel the air and fresh air to breathe. What a lovely place to visit. Its good for hangout with family love one and friends. It worth to visit we will serves by good view on the way to this beach. 👌 🌊
Not actually a hidden gem, it's relatively, altough dozens miles from city centre, quite easy to access. The shops are "uniformed", pretty similar one of each others. Enough space for two-three small families to gather. Bring your own foods, beach gears and toys while drink-wise let those shops handle it. Phone signal was pretty poor here but what the heck... As usual, please, please upgrade a bit for the public toilets
A lil bit far from the city, but worth to visit. No need to find the best place, cz along the beach the stores and sellers open a small gazebo for visitors. White sand, relaxing wind, and coconut are the perfect combo, enjoy!
Hidden spot to escape, you have to visit this place. And please keep this place clean. Jangan buang sampah sembarangan
Instantly fell in love with this beach when i visit it. If you are in aceh, you need to visit this beach. The water is very clear and very relaxing
The beach is really beautiful and the view is awesome.
Amazing nature destination at Aceh Regency
U will have roasted fish just before the beautiful white sands beach
