The parking lot has a toilet and can accommodate about 10 cars. It takes about 15 minutes to get there from the parking lot, but the stairs are steep and I think it might be a little difficult for elderly people. It's quite deep in the mountains, so it's best to have plenty of fuel and water in the summer. The path leading to the waterfall is a bit difficult, so it may be difficult for people with walking problems, but it is well maintained and easy to walk. Along the way, there is spring water, which is delicious. And the waterfall at the end of the walk was amazing! Your tiredness will be blown away all at once. It's worth going at least once. A lovely prefectural park with plenty of forest, a great network of hiking trails, and abundant bird life. The visitors centre is full of interesting information about the area with a cosy wood heater to sit by on cooler days. We visited in late autumn so it was a bit late to see autumn leaves, but we did about 6kms of walking to see the waterfalls which were pretty, but not enough recent rain to really get them going. Bring some binoculars to get a good look at the birds, and I imagine it’s pretty amazing in the spring.
Walking through Okayama forest is a must for anyone in the local area. It has the most beautiful views of silent forests, small streams, waterfalls and, if you climb to one of the peaks, the view of all the surrounding mountains and, on a clear day, a view of the coast 20km away. The forest is also full of wildlife with flora such as cedar trees, bamboo forests and about 20 different fungi, and fauna such as a huge selection of birds, snakes and, if you're lucky, bears. The walks however are most certainly not for those who have any trouble in doing so. Most paths are around 30° steep for a few kilometres and so any walks through here will take a few hours but it is truly worth it. As for getting here the base is around 800m high and so it is very advisable to take a car which there is plenty of parking for.

Beautiful exhibit with uranium glass. They give you a little blue light to enter the small display area with and shine lights on the uranium glass to make them glow. 500yen for adults.
A great and unique experience! I have enjoyed the history of uranium glass for a long time and was pleased to find a museum in Japan. Just outside a hot spring village, there is plenty to do in the area and it was an enjoyable drive. The museum itself was a lot of fun with lots of works to see and interactive black lights to see the glass with. At the beginning we were given an English brochure with the history and information inside. We were disappointed we couldn't do the glass making experience due to covid but enjoyed the museum nonetheless. There were many beautiful pieces to purchase and I am thrilled to add them to my collection!
We visited this museum March 29th and it was worth the trip. I became aware of Uranium glass a long time ago, but recently found this Museum on a random google and wikipedia search. It is a beautiful drive with many inviting onsens along the way. The museum staff were very welcoming and helpful. They made sure we had English translations. Being so excited for the museum, I brought my own UV lights. The staff also had a very cool UV pen for us to use during the exhibits. It was a clean and beautiful facility. They have a glass studio attached to the museum too. I think some days you can watch the creations. The museum is good sized and with beautiful historic pieces, as well as new creations you can purchase. I bought a beautiful large vase and it was wrapped and boxed with delicate care. Thank you! I think it would be wise to pair this with an onsen visit and maybe one other activity for the day. Please come see this museum because it is a very rare and beautiful treasure! Extraoridinary in the United States and even more of a treasure here in Japan.
Beautiful use of Uranium!

(Translated by Google) On November 15, 2025, I visited for the second time after touring Lake Onbara! This museum exhibits and sells uranium glass, a rare find in the world, made with uranium mined from Ningyo Pass. *Apparently, if you visit the Atom Science Museum first, you can get a 100 yen discount on the admission fee. As soon as you enter, you'll see adorable uranium glass and regular glass figurines and accessories for sale, with the reception desk at the back. Admission is 500 yen, and there are small exhibition rooms on the first and second floors. Staff members will give you a thorough explanation at the entrance and lend you a black light pen. On the second floor, you can see the glass workshop from above, and there are panels explaining how to make glass. You can even try your hand at making glass. I purchased a black light pen, a uranium glass bird figurine, and a vase with a leaf as souvenirs. Apparently, uranium glass is safe because it only emits radiation as much as it does in the atmosphere. It's my favorite fluorescent green, so I'd love to enjoy shining a light on it at night and cherish it for a long time! However, I felt like I would be able to enjoy it more if I went to the Atom Science Museum at Ningyo Toge after learning about the history and background of uranium production and the efforts being made by Kagamino Town. There are many retro glass designs on display, so people who like that kind of thing will also enjoy this museum! When I got down near the lift station, the brakes suddenly felt heavy. There was a lot of snow, so if you like to ski hard, you'll probably enjoy the first hard snow of the morning. I think it would be good to practice grator in the afternoon. Since it was a weekday, there were probably around 4-50 cars! At first glance, there were about 20 people actually skating.
(Translated by Google) I went there two days ago to teach my daughter and her friend how to snowboard. The one in the photo is from before. After all, it is easy to teach beginners here. It was my first time working at the lift, so I asked them if I could help them, and they responded, and I was happy that the lift didn't have to be stopped. At the end, I enjoyed the intermediate lift and went home. (Translated by Google) A ski resort for families. The course is wide and the slope is relatively gentle, so it might be a good place for your child to debut skiing or snowboarding. The prices are also reasonable compared to the Oyama area, with parent-child tickets available. (Original) ファミリー向けスキー場。 コース幅が広く、傾斜も比較的緩いのでお子さんのスキー・スノボデビューにも良いのでは。値段も大山辺りと比べると親子券があったりしてリーズナブルです。

(Translated by Google) It is one of China's 100 famous mountains. It is a steep climb from the trailhead, and most of the course is a direct climb. My calves felt like they were going to cramp. (Original) 中国百名山です。登山口からいきなり急登で、コースのほとんどが直登です。ふくらはぎが痙攣しそうでした。
(Translated by Google) I tried to find the trailhead by trusting the dashed lines on the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan map, but ended up wandering through the ruins of the campsite. The trailhead was located at the back of the plaza, further back in what used to be a kitchen. The way up is quite steep. I took the path down to the forested area on the east side, but the path was difficult to see due to the bamboo grass, the slope was steep, and the ground was slippery. Somewhere along the way, we started planting trees, but we could walk everywhere, and the path was blocked by abandoned branches, so it seemed like we would be lost without GPS.

I was also able to see the actual kera and tamahagane made from tatara iron. It had the top three things you would expect to find in a history and folklore museum: a winnowing machine, a millet saw, and a treadle threshing machine.
