Martin Mere is, without a doubt, one of the best family-friendly days out in the north west — and our family cannot recommend it highly enough. We joined with a family membership and were immediately impressed by the outstanding value for money. Every member of our group had a different favourite experience, which really speaks to the range and quality of what’s on offer here. Accessibility is clearly a top priority at Martin Mere, and they’ve done a wonderful job. One of our family members uses a wheelchair, and it was such a relief and joy to find that nearly all areas — including the beautifully maintained hides — are wheelchair accessible. The pathways are wide, well-surfaced, and easy to navigate, making the whole reserve feel inclusive and welcoming. Our 7-year-old was in absolute heaven spotting birds, pond dipping (at no extra cost!), and getting creative in the craft room (a small charge to make badges, but totally worth it). But for me, the true standout was the canoe safari. For just £12, you get an hour of peaceful paddling around a winding waterway where ducks, geese, and their adorable babies glide right by. It’s an unforgettable experience — calming, immersive, and a unique way to connect with the wildlife. The staff running the canoe safari were absolutely wonderful: friendly, helpful, and clearly enjoy what they do. What makes Martin Mere so special is the balance it strikes between curated habitats and more natural, wild-feeling wetlands. There’s a sense of wonder around every corner, whether you’re looking a thoughtfully designed enclosure of otters or a quiet, secluded hide. If you're looking for a place that combines education, adventure, tranquility, and accessibility — Martin Mere is it. We’ll be returning again and again.
A wonderful place to spend some time in nature. A large site with a variety of walks and hides for those happy to walk a bit further from the main area. Lots for kids to do in the inner area with ponds and different birds to look at and a restaurant too. Wheelchair and pushchair friendly paths and most of the hides are very accessible and some have an upper level. Very well managed and lots of information about what you can see, recommend a visit if you're nearby.
Today was my first visit. This place is brilliant for kids of all ages to explore wildlife, we saw many species of birds, ducks and geese. The facilities are great for wheelchair users and prams most of the grounds are easily accessible. My kids also loved the new splash walk and wildlife garden, as well as the splash area. Unfortunately we ran out of time and didnt get to use the play ground but it looks great. I think prices are fair as you can easily spend a whole day here immersing yourself in the wildlife and all activities on offer. We missed the educational sessions but would like to do them next time. The cafe is a bit expensive but nothing out of the ordinary these days, would recommend you bring a picnic as there is plenty space designated for this. Recommend a change of clothes and wellies for the wet activities. Will gladly return again soon!
My daughter absolutely loves birds and this was her paradise! Babies absolutely everywhere (end of may). The route around is easy to follow with lots of things to do. Plenty of beautiful picnic spots and i do advise taking one. The wild walk requires wellies in some parts especially after rainfall but we managed most parts without. The parks are good for young kids, my 8 year old loved them, my 12 year old not so much. Water play is involved so maybe spare clothes if they like to get wet. We spent around 3.5 hours here and parking was free, there was plenty of spaces when we arrived at 10.30 but people were struggling at 2pm. P.s control your children and do not allow them to chase the birds trying to scare them! We witnessed this numerous times!
We’ve been visiting Martin Mere for many many years and it’s always a lovely day out. Things to consider: You can buy bird seed to feed the ducks on the way in, I would suggest you buy more than one bag though as there are many different varieties of ducks over a wide area and it’s quickly used up on the ducks as you first enter the place. There are hides dotted around the reserve which gives you some great viewing of our feathered friends. Watch out for the otters who are fed daily, they are cute to watch. The volunteers there are very friendly and helpful and happy to answer any questions you may have. There’s a cafe which sells both hot and food cold, the hot chips are always on my mind when I’m there. There’s a few play areas and it’s lovely to take the young kids there to explore and enjoy the fresh air. There’s also a shop that sells a whole range of lovely stuff including T-shirts, books and local jams and chutneys. All in all a lovely day out.
Lovely volunteers and staff. Awesome environment for the birds, insects and animals. Lots of play equipment and activities for the kids. Thanks to Captain Dave for the entertaining river ride.
A great day out. Plenty of parking available, including disabled. Friendly and helpful staff. My mother-in-law was able to hire a mobility scooter for £10 despite not pre-booking. Tonnes of ducks, lots of different breeds. Plus flamingoes and otters. We only got round about 40% of the place in our 4 hour stay so will definitely go back. Plenty of toilets. Refreshing that these were clean and well looked after too. A number of playgrounds and water play equipment. Lots of picnic benches. Cafe was expensive. In good weather, bring your own picnic! A well stocked (but also very expensive) gift shop. We pre-booked a boat ride, which was lovely. Canoes also available. We will definitely return. A great day out for all of us. 10% off tickets if you book online.
We went on a dull day. There was a lot of brown ducks. Im sure if you know your duck they were different. There are storks and flamingos. There are a couple of play areas. One wet play so take a towel and possibly a change of clothes. There is a Reed bed walk off the car park which we walked part way.

It is a great place for children to interact with animals and get some good 'outside time'. We were there on a day with Disney & Marvel movie characters roaming for photo opportunities. The jurassic adventure dinosaurs were good with interesting commentary. A big, warm, and quick counter service restaurant with a soft play area inside, too. The birds of prey collection are worthy of specual note. A very informative demonstration with these magnificent birds shows us all how beautiful they are! Lots to do. A good day out.
Great few hours visiting. Plenty to do for kids. Food is reasonably priced and is really nice. Would be 5 stars if we where able to go on the Dinosaur Train. We arrived just after the first train but there was a 3 hour wait until the next one. Will be back again to make sure we get a go next time.
Great place to take the younger children. We took 2 of our grandchildren for the day and we had a fun packed full day with the mazes and all the different animals. The end of day show is great the team put a lot of hard work in. The sheep race is great. The dinosaur ride is quirky and well worth a visit. The restaurant is clean and fast service came with a smile
We had a fantastic day at Ted’s Farm! The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home from the start. The whole area was spotless and well-kept, which really added to the comfort of our visit. It’s a wonderful place for a family day out – safe, clean, and full of activities that both kids and adults can enjoy. The prices are very reasonable, especially considering everything included. I was really impressed with the number of handwashing points around the site – it made things so convenient and reassuring, especially with little ones. The activities were not only fun but also very educational, giving us the chance to learn more about farming and animals in an engaging way. Overall, it was a great experience, and we’ll definitely be coming back. Highly recommended for families looking for an affordable, enjoyable, and educational day out!
Brilliant Afternoon We decided to go after lunch . We had a 2 year old and new baby There was plenty to do . Lots of activities . I suppose we arrived in the afternoon which was perfect. You can make a day of it and take a picnic .lots of space for the children to run around
Excellent day out. So much to do, we spent the entire day there. Highly recommend.
Just a great day with my friends young Grandson . But at 69 & 75 we had a brill day
It's a good day out for the kids lots of things to do, personally I was expecting more animals; animals didnt seem happy and living conditions pretty dirty compared to other farms ive been too. The foam party at the end was great and loved the birds of prey from Horus

We visited the farm yesterday with our daughter (18m) and we all had a brilliant time! Theres plenty of animals and you can feed most of them, which our daughter loved. The facilities and great, and the train ride was brill. The staff are super friendly and helpful, especially Ryan who took the time to talk to us and introduced our daughter to plenty of animals and critters, he was very informative and was a real credit to the farm. The food from the cafe was lovely, especially the burger! Can't recommend this place enough, we look forward to returning.
Lovely little farm with a great train ride too. Play areas for the children too. Only thing I didn't like was there were no shelters in the enclosures for the animals. Nice big car park and staff were friendly.
We HIGHLY recommend this farm!! Us as a family absolutely LOVE windmill farm it’s absolutely beautiful and so much to do there!! Windmill farm is very close to my heart I have been going since I was a little girl and now I have the pleasure to bring my 3 children to show them my childhood memories at this gorgeous farm honestly core memories and even more heart warming that it’s a family ran farm. Staff are all so helpful and happy very attentive nothing is a bother for them. I have also had birthday parties here again everything was just perfect my eldest daughter is now 8 years old we done it for her 5th birthday and children from the school still remember the party and I still take children back when I go with my children honestly this farm never gets old for us we are just so lucky that it’s local to us xxx thank you to all the staff at windmill farm
Staff and animals were very friendly! I went with my great Nephews both under 3 and sister. We rode the train which they loved. Hands on with the guinea pigs too.
Absolutely great day out for the younger ones. Staff were really lovely and friendly, cafe was spot on, and lots to do all for a great price. Really enjoyed the day, deffo return ⭐️
The place is great , lovely staff , food and the animals are great. We had a good time. The only reason I gave it 3 stars is because the animals out in the fields have no natural or made shelter. It was so hot they all seemed distressed and excessive panting and trying to find shade!! Risk of heat stress and stroke!! This really needs to be given for extreme heat we are having at the moment and for even in other weather conditions. It was even hotter the day after which made me think of the animals! Only thing that let it down.
Great farm to take the kids to. Lots to see and do. The young guy who was on the rabbit and guinea pig area was really great and knowledgeable about all the animals. We sat and held the rabbits and guinea pigs and fed the baby lambs. Not just a day out for kids but great for adults too. Great little train ride around the farm.soft play area for kids. Cafe food expensive and not great so I’d advise take a packed lunch. Overall staff lovely welcoming, place is clean and really great fun, lots of free parking.
What a place, absolutely fabulous. The staff very friendly and helpful. You are able to touch and feed some of the animals. Great outdoor and indoor activities, great cafe, just a great place.

This place is great for a bit of fun racing around their indoors track. There was 10 of us who went for my nephew's birthday.
Went here last Saturday and came in, owner was nice and greeted all of us. He was friendly. I would recommend this for a bit of fun racing around the indoor track and the outdoor. Would come back again
Family of 8 today was brill everyone was great and friendly we will definatly be back, few of us have never done it before but did great really enjoyed ourselves Thank you
Great place, friendly staff, chilled owner. Kids loved the track. Thanks for the day!
Horrible experience from start to finish, a 2 minute drive on the track resulting in a visit to A&E. Sadly very poor customer service and a very negative attitude received. No offer of refund. No accident book to document injury.
Absolutely brilliant place with the most hilarious owner, will be back 👌
Booked at short notice and we all had a great time, good value, helpful staff
Booked this for 10 of us for Sunday. We booked it for 11am. They tell you to get their 30mins before hand to go through safety etc. When I looked to see what time it opens when I Googled it it says 11am. So thought our safety talk was at 11am. On their website it says they open at 9am. Which caused a bit of confusion of why I was told I was late. Staff on the track made sure we all stayed safe. If anyone crashed. Staff used flags to make us aware someone has crashed and needed to slow down. Great day everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves 🥇🥈🥉🏁

Ormskirk Market, with its history stretching back to 1286, is a cornerstone of the town's character. Held every Thursday and Saturday in the pedestrianized streets, it offers a traditional market experience with around 100 stalls. You'll find everything from fresh local produce and artisan breads to clothing, flowers, and household goods. The bustling atmosphere, combined with the historic surroundings of the Clock Tower, makes for a vibrant and enjoyable day out, whether you're a local or just passing through.
Brilliant for trip out to the market on Saturday very nice town some Quirky bars artisan stalls really enjoyed our day there
I went ormskirk market today it was a lovely day out I have to praise the pie stall the pies are beautiful proper old fashioned pies they was reasonably priced they deserve to do well.I said to the lady on the stall my mum would have loved this stall but unfortunately she pass on . A lot better than greenhalgh. I will be visiting again well done
Came to the market about 7 years ago...it was massive and very busy.. On a coach trip yesterday..the marked was about half the size and not very busy.. disappointing, but a sign of the times.
A historic market town. Nice open air walk. Loads of stalls. Just a pitty there are so many clothing stalls and so little variety. Great location and loads of food and drink options available. Plenty parking as long as you pay. Some nice old buildings and landmarks. Certainly worth a visit.
Sells lots of different things, love the pies from there all homemade.. has very good vibe
Nice to visit plenty of cafes & bistros around to stop for a coffee & cake or a spot of lunch
Lovely little market, with plenty of coffee shops and cafes good morning out..

Watching the Houghton Weavers at Ormskirk Civic Hall was brilliant. Good stage and lighting. Run by volunteers who were most accommodating and friendly.
I attended the Ormskirk Civic Hall for a great afternoon of Wrestling presented by local promotion This Is Wrestling. Fantastic building, awesome atmosphere and incredible action.
Great place, Artisan craft fair 13 July please visit
Great venue, lovely stage and dressing rooms, everyone so helpful....
Visited here to watch Barnum the musical. It was fantastic. Large hall with a high stage, so it's easy to view from wherever you are seated. Bar to the right of the hall, which sells soft drinks, alcohol and snacks. Friendly staff. Great experience.
This a great venue for christening birthdays etc it has kitchen facilities. They have groups etc. Bar facilities good pleasant staff. Only negative is only one toilet for ladies. It is quite big inside and has a big stage area. They have plays and pantomimes.

I had my retirement celebration here. We had the hot buffet. Everything was just as I wanted it to be. Ruth was reassuring & supportive throughout arrangements running up to the event & Amanda & other staff on the evening were welcoming & equally helpful. I would certainly use this place again & can highly recommend
Great evening last night ....the new series of jazz events The Jazz Spectrum hosted at the Chapel Gallery has found a great venue. Now how come I've never discovered this gem venue before. Totally recommend following them on Twitter and see the evets unfold. It'll get a big following in this university market town.
We went here to see Disney jazz tonight. It was excellent 👏 👌! The owner was very friendly and gave us a free ginger bread, home baked and gorgeous! It's really nicely decorated inside and even has a gallery. Definitely give this place a go!
The venue is fantastic, staff are lovely and helpful. The whole family had fun at the magic show and really enjoyed the musician. Didn't have any of the delicious sounding food so will have to try some next time, the cakes on display looked very tempting too
It is under new management, which is a blessing. Originally, the layout had the cafe at the rear of the building, although small, it became a tremendous success thanks to Mrs Fillingham, who invested a huge amount of energy and time in making it work despite the cramped space. When that lady left, the customers soon followed, and it became a wasteland. The building was revamped, but its cafe had no ambience unlike its original model. It had been put upstairs which seems to have put it out of reach. This latest manifestation places the cafe in the largest room available, the old theatre. If anything, it is too big, but nonetheless an improvement. Coffee originally produced in the original cafe was the best in town by a light year. The new management is courteous, keeps a clean establishment, and has regular clients for what appeared to be wholesome food. You won't regret giving it a go.
The staff are very friendly and always willing to help. The food is great for the price. The venue itself can seat up to about 60 people. It's clean and has a friendly vibe to it. If you get any spare time there's a gallery on the back which is worth a view . All in all a very well maintained great service and reasonably price id give 5 stars .
Lovely cafe, really helpful staff who are happy to cater for allergies and intolerance. I found my food a bit too sweet (much too much tomato chutney for me) but other than that no complaints.
It's a little away from the market so less busy if you want a drink and/or quiet chat with a friend. We felt welcome and the caramel flashback was the best I've ever tasted. There are artworks and artisan pieces to look at in the gallery in addition to the lovely coffee shop
