Pub
Breakfast restaurant
The Court Leet - JD Wetherspoon is a vibrant pub that stands out in Ormskirk, offering a delightful roof terrace perfect for soaking up the sun during warmer months. This popular spot serves up classic comfort food and an array of drinks, making it an ideal place to unwind with friends or enjoy a meal after exploring the local dining scene. Whether you're stopping by for breakfast on your way to Southport or looking for a lively evening atmosphere, The Court Leet has you covered.
This place was buzzin' when I visited on a midweek teatime. Very well supported by locals, most of which were eating and drinking. I chose a pint of East London - Quadrant Oatmeal Stout which was very nice indeed!! This wasn't my first visit and it won't be my last! 👍

A very busy Spoons with an impressive large roof terrace. I went on a Saturday evening and it was packed inside and out. Great atmosphere with some good ales. Service wasn't the friendliest, though. Well worth a visit
Paul B — Google review
Usually ok but me and hubby had the spicy chicken today which is usually ok and it was dried out and hardly any chicken to eat without breaking your teeth. Told the chef and all she said was it comes prepackaged and they heat it up in the microwave. She said if it's the same next time come and tell her. I think I'll be asking to see it before it comes to my table. Good job I ordered rice chips and salad or id be going home hungry.
TheAafaye — Google review
This place was so disappointing and it was my first visit here,It was very busy, but there clearly wasn't enough staff to meet the demand of customers, there were filthy tables and the glass drop off station was horrendous there was stacks and stacks of glasses in the actual window drop off then 2 full wheeled trollies full of glasses and dirty plates and cutlery,The lady behind the bar (a manager ) was quite rude and I over heard a few other customers say the same !!!! The most organised place was the kitchen, where the food was being prepared and sent quickly and was very nice .The cutlery we received was filthy, and we were not instructed as to where we could obtain any condiments. There was also no courtesy check done on our meals .As a whole, with the right amount of staff and organisation, this would be a great place to visit again ,I will definitely give it another chance, but I hope there are improvements made for the future.
Emma C — Google review
God awful food, even by Wetherspoons Standards, half a handful of chips and a burnt crispy lasagna. To add insult to injury you get the generic “Is everything okay with your food?” And you actually decide for once to tell them that it’s awful and they shrug at you and don’t give a toss anyway, what was even the point of asking? I took the picture of the lasagna to remind myself of the terrible quality, incase I try to convince myself this place is worth visiting again. Maghull Wetherspoons is virtually the same distance if you’re coming from out of town and isn’t the most abysmal Wetherspoons of your life.

First time visit ...Called in for breakfast on the way to Southport...a lovely big spoonz, with friendly and helpful staff, food delivered quickly via the App would happily call again. Nice big outdoor seating area for sunny days. Busy when we got there and car park right next door and free on Sunday! Went for dinner today, busy but still served quickly via App!....fancied a burger but most out of stock!...settled for a chicken burger instead.
Garffey — Google review
worst breakfast we’ve ever had frozen hash browns cold beans no meat on the fat of the bacon sausage cold and tasteless scrambled egg was dry and rubber like a boomerang hopefully thrown with no return toast cold but ok orange juice was lovley

Italian restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Ormskirk, The Fat Italian is a charming family-run eatery that has been delighting locals since 2008. This beloved restaurant specializes in a delightful mix of Italian and British dishes, ensuring there's something to satisfy every palate. Whether you're craving hearty pasta or fresh pizza, The Fat Italian delivers with flair. For those on the go or exploring the picturesque surroundings of Ormskirk, they also offer a convenient take-out service.
Absolutely amazing, food was delicious and staff were lovely. Will definitely come back. Thank you to Callum and Gary you were both fabulous.
Cat M — Google review
Atmosphere and service fantastic to start. Unfortunately this doesn’t make up to the very underwhelming food. Lack of flavour, & garlic bread quality was really poor for an Italian. When we politely shared this view with the staff at the end, they ended up leaving us waiting for our bill for 30 minutes - the service was excellent up to that point. No reductions on the bill or offers of remediation either despite a poor experience. Overall a lovely venue with good people but food was lacking depth in quality, which was a shame as we had high expectations. Won’t be returning.
Olly B — Google review
The food was of an excellent quality. Well presented and tasted great. We came here after previously having eaten at the Crosby restaurant a few months ago which was also very good. We had the £34 deal for 3 courses which I found was reasonable value considering the high quality of the food. The 2 managers/front of house were friendly and approachable, as were the servers. My constructive critique would be that I felt some of the drinks were overpriced, particularly circa £7 for a pint of beer and £6 for cider. This combined with being asked whether we wanted more drinks by the servers over 10 times in an hour gave us the impression that revenue from drinks was quite important for the restaurant. There was also a pricing error on the bill when we received in which the total showed as being approximately £11 more than it should've been, however to the managers' credit he did quickly resolve this. Overall we enjoyed our visit, and particularly the food, albeit being asked 10+ times if we wanted more drinks! Can't fault the friendly staff though.

Amazing food, great service and a fabulous evening. Sammy took us to the table and was so pleasant and welcoming. Gary served us the food and was funny and friendly and James checked in on us and made sure we were looked after. The staff really made a lovely meal just better and are a credit to their profession. First time visiting but definitely not the last.
Andrew R — Google review
Quick service, lovely attentive staff, gorgeous food. I’ve been here for my birthday the past few years. This year, I was too full for dessert so the waitress brought my final drink with a candle in and played happy birthday. Made my day! Will be coming back again (and again!).

Had a great night for our school reunion all the staff are fantastic especially Sammy Looking forward to the next one
Kazz S — Google review
Our fourth visit to this gorgeous restaurant and once again it didn’t disappoint. Had the happy hour menu which is amazing value available every day until 6 pm with pasta and pizza dishes for around £10 so be sure to check this out. I love the relaxed, friendly atmosphere here, the staff are just so welcoming and chatty and give advice on the food which is very welcome when there is so much choice. The Decor is pretty and everywhere is spotlessly clean. The food is just amazing and, even better, they have a fabulous dessert menu. There is also a car park at the rear of the restaurant. The only negative is that we were told we only had 1 hour 15 minutes at the table so we were just conscious of the time when waiting for the meal to arrive but it’s because it is such a busy restaurant. My favourite go to restaurant at the moment locally and I will definitely be visiting again.

We came here for dinner one evening mid week I had the lasagna and my wife had the chicken burger the food was really good and the portion sizes were big. Will return.

Restaurant
Nestled in the charming town of Ormskirk, The Cricketers is a delightful pub that offers a perfect blend of stylish ambiance and delectable dining. With an English menu that evolves throughout the year, guests can indulge in innovative daily specials alongside a selection of local ales. The drink offerings are impressive, featuring quality wines, real ales, continental lagers, and craft beers to satisfy any palate.
My family and I visited the Cricketers as part of a celebration for my brothers graduation ceremony. They had a set menu and the food was absolutely superb, the service was fantastic, and the atmosphere, facilities and ambience of the pub, including their flower planters in their outdoor patio area was just lovely. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and my meal, and was particularly impressed with our waiter, Ken, who was both intelligent, articulate, friendly, efficient and extremely professional. I had a very positive experience here ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Boxing Day meal Me and my family came across the cricketers and recently nipped in prior to check it out and loved the cosy vibes so checked out the menu for our Boxing Day meal and pre booked / did the deposit When arriving on the day was seated (twice as first on the wrong table but the staff seemed like they’d had a busy day already as we dined at 3) we had wanted the snug but in the conservatory instead but was brighter and worked out better The tables and restaurant was decorated all festive but when coming to dining we encountered an issue when asked what we wanted from the menu but had already ordered however re did the order only to be told one of the dishes was unavailable and not notified prior which was a shock The main issue was it was the vegan dessert and only one option available so considering we planned the 3 courses came up short they did offer an alternative but the option wasn’t preference so decided to leave the whole tables final course and just had 2 When the food arrived was nicely presented but Cold and Luke warm which we understood was probably due to the amount of t of diners so not sure how long the food had waited but did effect the enjoyment and eating experience We had a long yet relaxing time but left feeling a little underwhelmed after the build up to the day sort of an ant climax and think it could of been better organised as our deposit also hadn’t been knocked off the bill so had to notify our server who apologised Despite this me and my family would like to re visit and try again from their usual menu ( hopefully can get the dessert originally planned too ) and give a second chance Dishes tried l : Tomato and pepper soup Beef Bourguignon Mushroom arancini Hake Aubergine Borani Nut roast

I came here for my graduation meal on Monday 21st July! We were a party of 10, the service was excellent and all staff members were amazing considering the restaurant was very full for celebration meals! Two of us were graduating and we were given complimentary spritz which was such a nice touch to help make our special day even better🥂 I had salt and pepper calamari to start which was out of this world! To follow I had steak and ribs, the steak was cooked to perfection and the ribs had plenty of meat on. My family and the staff surprised me with a celebration dessert board which was the perfect way to end such a lovely meal! I would highly recommend the cricketers to anyone who wants to celebrate a special occasion. Thank you once again for making our day one to remember!👩🏼‍🎓

My partner and I came here as it was recommended by some friends and we had the best evening. The food was incredible, the service was exceptional by the two young ladies that looked after us. We finished the evening with a beer and a lovely sunset in the cute beer garden. Would highly recommend and we can’t wait to come back! 😊

Was looking for a nice place for food and drove passed this place many times and never gave it a second thought, then decided to give it a go. This is now our go to place to reset after our busy work week, sat at the bar spoke to owner like old friends The staff are so polite even on the phone and the food along with service is amazing, prices are unbeatable honestly give it a try you wont be disappointed Thanks for the amazing service sorry to hear Adam is leaving ( going to Preston good luck with the new house ) and also Rachel leaving going travelling ( good luck and enjoy )Rich & Michelle x x x Just an additional review, so the bistro is now open upstairs and wowzas we thought it couldn’t get any better but it does, the bistro has 10/12 tables that are yours for 1 sitting only so not getting different people in and out, the chefs get to show their culinary skills and the staff are once again amazing, if your looking for a special night give it a try xx

Great tasty food with plenty of options, we went for the lunch time menu and were not disappointed! Great allergy awareness too (wife is gluten free)! I had the chipolatas, followed by sesame tempura chicken with apple and blackberry peanut butter crumble for dessert. My wife had the garlic and herb chicken thighs followed by bacon and cheese omelette with mixed berry sorbet for dessert. Will be back again soon!
Nick T — Google review
We went on steak night and the steak was one of the best I've ever had! Really nice atmosphere, cosy vibes, great service. Would highly recommend and will be visiting again :)
Laura H — Google review
The food really let's this place down unfortunately. We were a party of 5 and 3 had complaints about the food and the other 2 couldn't really rave about their dishes. From overdone meat (tough and chewy), to a very odd tasting curry to grissly ribs to chips that had barely been cooked enough. Nice menu ideas, poorly executed. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The decor is quite fresh and nice to sit in but the food really did let the evening down unfortunately. I wouldn't return because of this.

Very disappointed in my meal, looked like chef didn't give a dam about the dish the fried egg was about the best item on the plate. Had the Choizo and cheese Quesadilla no filling to talk of, and served with pickle red cabbage didn't go with the meal.
Paul R — Google review
Wow! We had the best night at Nordico Lounge. I booked the whole of the upstairs for 24 of us celebrating my sisters birthday. The service was incredible. The food was delicious (as always). We had so much fun! I love Nordico! It's my favourite place to eat! Highly recommend the Buddha Bowl!
Ellen F — Google review
Great cafe, various seating options including comfy armchairs. You can have all day breakfast, or burgers, tapas, oriental dishes and more. Nice variety to choose from and the Cowboy smash burger I had was delicious and I am rarely a big fan of burgers to be honest. You can have a classic eggs Benedict (it's hidden in the menu a bit, called Lounge Eggs), which was also good. I liked the cappuccino, the vanilla matcha latte was interesting. I guess the only disappointment was the sherbet lemonade, which was just like a watered down lemonade. I was offered a replacement when I mentioned it at the end, but I had other nice drinks so didn't need it at that point. It was a busy Saturday and we were told to expect half an hour wait for food. Well, they were faster than other places that don't give any warnings. Very good service overall. Oh and doggies are welcome :)
D K — Google review
Pancakes were fabulous! Kids meals were good sizes and all eaten which usually is a positive sign! All food came to the table but one childs meal. We could see it (forgotten about) on the hot plate! I had to retrieve it myself before there were tears! Chef said waiting staff had disappeared.. 🤔
J B — Google review
We went tonight as a party of 16 for my sons 18th with family tonight and I can't thank the staff there enough. Amazing time, amazing food, great price, fab atmosphere and amazing staff and management! I booked via email from 5pm for my sons 18th in the upstairs area and it was easy and simple! As a mum I admittedly was a bit overzealous with the messaging with various details etc but all was accommodated! I chose Nordico because ive been before and enjoyed it plus i had cealiacs and vegans in tbe party and the menu catered for all with variety which still not many places do! We had a buffet style tapas menu which was really amazing. Fresh cooked food put out on a high top long table with easily visible flags to show gluten free, vegan etc. A simple thing yes you may think however it's those little things like flags that make everyone inclusive and therefore relaxed. Chefs did Nordico proud! The f.o.h staff also equally fab. Despite being busy and probably me being a potentially 'needy' guest all enquiries/orders etc where met with a genuine smile and help/answers! The bartender who I asked to ask for my son for I.d while he bought his first legal pint was met with a smile and great banter while I took a pic! But also a big thankyou also goes to Ryan the manager. He was excellent which clearly echoes down into his team. Nothing was too much trouble. He explained everything when we walked in, was always available, happy, personable, professional, helpful, busy the list is endless! Several of us in the party have worked in the restaurant industry in varying levels and respect how hard it gets especially on key days/nights. But these guys nailed it as did Ryan. Even when I gave Ryan some of the birthday cake and a cash tip he explained without arrogance that he gave it to the staff as he was salaried. That there is a huge green flag. I can't say thankyou enough xx

Very reliable place to bring visiting friends and parents, or a nice brunch out with friends. A majority of our group have severe allergies, and have never had an issue with accommodating them seamlessly. I'd like to point out as well that it is easy to order with allergens, and have never had problems with anything. The staff are lovely as well!

Visited Nordico lounge for the first time today. Upon arrival, the staff directed us to a nice table. The place was very busy. The waiting staff provided us with menus promptly, and we ordered at the bar. The food and drinks we ordered came out within 15 minutes. I ordered a lounge breakfast. The breakfast was good, and it was cooked well. The prices are reasonab, e the portion sizes are good. The atmosphere inside was relaxed and too loud and the staff are really helpful. I'd definitely recommend this eatery, and if I'm in ormskirk again, I'll pop in

Really nice service here and got sat right in front of the open fire on a really cold day, lovely it was too. Honestly can say, the best steak and ale pie I've ever had in my life, full of braised steak cooked to perfection. All that topped with hand cut chips and fresh veg and proper gravy too. Would loved to have had desert but was way too stuffed to fit anything else in. I would whole heartedly recommend this place to anyone and everyone and I'm definitely going back for more.

Very nice food, staff friendly and very efficient. I marked it down one star, because the chips were a little hollow and crisp. I felt as though they had been warmed up from an earlier service? Maybe Im wrong but they weren't great. Everything else was delicious and huge portions!

Called in today, for the first time, after today's meander that included part of the War Horse Route from Ormskirk, before cutting off up to Ruff Wood, through Edge Hill University and then back to Ormskirk. Friendly staff and a nice environment. My better half enjoyed her Honeybee Smoothy (Mint, Honey & Apple) but sadly my cappuccino was lacking in the espresso element - more like hot milk. Food looks inviting so may visit again (I won't be having a cappuccino)

Rose — Google review
We hadn’t even sat inside for more than five minutes before being pressured to buy a drink by a rude member of staff and told we’d have to leave if not. Our whole party hadn’t arrived yet and we were simply waiting causing no disruption. Extremely inappropriate and uncomfortable way to treat customers.

I’m a transgender woman and I was sexually harassed by a drunk landlady who asked incredibly invasive questions. Also the drink I had tasted as if the lines hadn’t been cleaned for ages.

Brilliant staff but wages are never paid in full constantly having to chase up to get their money but never get it. If the management dont like a member of staff they accuse them of stealing bottles of alcohol and sack them. Disgusting loyalty to staff. That's why the turnover of staff is so high.

Amazing staff!! Genuinely polite and a brilliant place to drink and party on a weekend, particularly the girl with the blond ponytail was very kind! Overall great service! Deffo come down for drinks and pricing not bad either with shot deals too :)) bouncers very kind and good to chat too, especially the lovely bouncer doggy that welcomed us in hahaa

Used to come in on a regular basis for kareoke. The bouncers are appallingly rude at the best of times. Today, came in as a group of 6, each of us purchased at least one drink, sat watching the Merseyside derby. We were then approached by staff and told we had to leave as we hadn't purchased enough drinks and weren't welcome unless we spent more money. Reeked of greed and pure arrogance. One to avoid, try Liquid, Cabo, Lyme Tiger for a more casual vibe, for anything else, go Alpine, or as a student, even social is preferable. Only ever worthwhile for the football, and it's clearly not even that now.

Great place! Lovely staff, friendly door people and all round good energy. Visited for a couple drinks with a friend and we weren’t disappointed. Always pop in here when I’m in ormskirk.
Dan T — Google review
In my opinion styles is the best night out location for students in ormskirk. Its not as popular as alpine so its generally always easy enough to find a table if you want one. They also do great offers on cocktails and shots. The music is almost always great. The only complaint is that the toilets are very small and are often a bit grim

Beware if you are a non drinker or are the driver of the group. They do not sell any non alcoholic beers. You cant even get a shandy as they dont have draught beers or pint glasses (unless you get a glass of lemonade a spare glass and a bottle of beer and mix your own as you go) Its quite ridiculous that they dont cater for the above and literally force drivers to drink on a night out in their premises. Although I believe they own the Green Room next door which definitely sell Non Alcoholic beer. 🤔. You really need to sort this out. And while your at it teach your bar staff what drinks you sell as the 2 I have had the pleasure of dealing with had no idea and looked at me funny when i asked for a Punk IPA that I could see in the fridge right in front of me!!!!!!

Went for the canal boat trip absolutely brilliant loved it. Highly recommend it. We called in the pub staff absolutely brilliant very helpful and friendly staff excellent service totally recommend. They do an excellent cappuccino 👍.

What a beautiful location, being able to sit by the canal watching the boats sail past. I had the trio of meats. Ham, chicken, and beef. With roast potatoes, tender stem broccoli, carrots and swede, red cabbage, sage and onion stuffing ball, pig in blanket, Yorkshire pudding and a delicious gravy. It was beautiful and the plate was clean at the end. My backpartner had Belly pork. The staff were lovely and friendly. The sun was shining. A great Sunday lunch. Well worth a visit. We will definitely be coming back .

Stopped here with my campervan for a night. Free as long as you use the pub - so I had a couple of beers, a meal and a great night. Very friendly and welcoming staff for someone passing through. Boating community in pub and at the moorings were also very friendly. I'll definitely be back.

New owners took over 3 days ago - we went today, not realising that on Mondays the pub is shut through the winter. Paid for the car parking and went to leave. Rang the pub to see if by chance they were open and just shut up the front (or opening later) to refund the car parking. The new owner went above and beyond for us, we said we’d come just for the Caffreys, she said even though they are closed, due to the mider we had with the parking to absolutely pop in for a pint. Lovely genuine new owners and we were made up. She was so nice, couldn’t refund the parking but not an issue due to her kind and genuine hospitality. For anyone visiting - enter your reg in the pub and the parking is free. Looking forward to trying food here and I think this pub will be very successful with the attitude of the new owners. Pint of Caffreys was beautiful and chilled to perfection, reasonably priced too. We will be back. All the best for the new owners, thank you

Popped in to the pub today to try it as it’s under new management - really nice family, very welcoming and drinks were good. Kitchen opening soon so haven’t tried the food yet but we spoke to Alfi who will be managing the kitchen and is a really nice guy with great plans for food from next weekend. Also dog friendly - they made a big fuss of our dogs and they had the wood burning stove lit which created a lovely cozy place to stop on our walk. We will definitely be back to try the food and some more drinks. We hope the wider community supports them as well as this used to be a great pub on the canal to stop at and they really want to return it to that - we wish them success and happiness at The Slipway.

We have visited the Slipway a couple of times & have found each time an enjoyable experience. An idyllic pub set beneath a canal bridge. The locals look older than the pub itself and seem to be still celebrating England's '66 World Cup win. In this busy boozer everyone buys a shot with their drink..even the kids. Legend has it that Margaret Thatcher was conceived upstairs in early 1925. Nice draught ales. Shabba x

This was a superb pub for drinking, remaining open in the city centre to get drinks coming very close to midnight! The design has a classic Victorian aesthetic, curtains are stylish and the lighting has a vintage feel too. Counter is neatly presented, seating is comfortable when I had a classic Strongbow Dark Fruits and toilets were very clean!

Food isn’t bad. It’s not the best, but I did only have the homemade soup and hummus. Service is good despite waiter getting me sparking water instead of still. Great to see vegan food on the menu, overall this is a good place for cocktails/drinks and a few nibbles not for actual food.

Food was lovely, however they did not reserve our table after booking 3 days prior. Forgot half the food order and sent it separately, spoke to a member of staff who apologised and said everything had gone wrong behind the scenes that day, he then spoke to the manager and after spending a lot of money, he wasn't willing to knock anything from the bill or even offer a drink, this was quite disappointing as it was the first time in a year that we had got together due to new babies and ill health.

Friday night out for tea unplanned - decided to give this place another go (bad experiences last time we have been!). Menu had changed and we decided that pistachio crusted lamb tikka sounded lovely enough for us both to order it. This was not lamb tikka, it was minced lamb rolled into a ball, no pistachio crust and came with chips that are clearly cheap frozen chips and a sad looking-wilted pile of rocket leaves that look like they’d sat on the plate for a few days. Really really disappointing - sent it back. Was charged £18 for two glasses of wine, no apology, charged fully for the other dinner that was only half eaten because other half was too starving to question it. But even then he couldn’t eat it all because it was such poor quality. I’ve never had a nice meal at this place. It’s such a shame as the place could be really nice but they seem to have no pride in the food really. No apology, didn’t even try to rectify anything- just took the plate and took it off the bill. Ended up having nothing!

We nipped in here after a long train journey to refuel before exploring the town. It is beautifully decorated and a very nice place to relax in, but the floors are sticky. They clearly had stock issues because they couldn't do any frappes, was told they could do lattes but then oh no not the tea lattes I'd actually drink, had to tell the barista several times I'm not a regular coffee drinker so had to settle for green tea. The barista was very friendly and patient with me, and the drinks arrived promptly. I was also pleasantly surprised to find the ladies' toilets on the same level as the bar.

This is a gorgeous venue. The staff are very attentive and friendly, the food is good but the portions are too small, not good value for money. The price of the drinks is about right for the current climate. Last time we went it was freezing the whole time we were there, which ruined the ambience and the experience for our group. Hope they haven’t started trying to save on heating costs!

Eaten here before and really enjoyed it. This visit was very disappointing. The food items we wanted to order were "out of stock". This apparently was because the menu was in the process of being changed. Alternative food ordered was nice however it took an hour to reach us and came out in dribs and drabs. We eventually found out that there was only 1 chef working which meant that our party, 6 of us, were all getting our meals at different times. The gentleman who was serving us couldn't have been more apologetic so the fiasco wasn't his fault. However if we had known that certain meals were off the menu we wouldn't have gone there but we had already booked it for a birthday gathering.

The wait wasn't too long and the food made up for it.

The bar staff here are so welcoming and can't be faulted at all! The place itself and the theme they're going for is all a bit dated now though and doesn't seem to attract many punters, which makes it feel like a place to call in to for one, and then move on. It doesn't have much atmosphere.

Lovely pub, however very rude lady with very bad customer service skills. It was just before 5pm on Sat and the pub had stop serving food?? Anyway was just about to ask if they would mind us getting a subway and bring it in however the lady was very abrupt and rude before me even asking the question and when I finally managed to ask the question was again very abrupt and rude. Then in a pathetic so called apology told me abruptly "she was sorry if I thought she was rude but she was rushed off her feet!!" Well to the lady I really hope ur extra quiet so your not rushed off your feet to make you a nice polite person or personally I don't think your in the right job customer service is most definitely not for you.

Walk in on a very quiet Tuesday afternoon. we were the only people in the restaurant. We were told we could sit anywhere which was fairly clear anyway. After 10 minutes wait we asked the waitress if it was table service or we had to order at the bar. No signage to advise the latter. No visit to the table to ask if we wanted drinks. A general air of indifference.Food was good - burritos and nachos. If this is the standard of service I can't see many repeat customers.

Booked here for 6 people to eat. Booth was small but manageable. Didn't need to book as the place was empty. Visitors have praised the warm hospitality of the staff, with special mentions for Elizabeth and Gary. The venue is described as a hidden gem, with guests appreciating its cozy atmosphere and delicious menu offerings, including options for gluten-free diners. It's also noted as dog-friendly.
what a hidden gem! Never been before but we went to an evening with Jan Molby (ex LFC player). Yes it's a small venue but that just made it even better! It was £25 including a curry or beef stew each and it was yummy. All the staff were amazing and I really mean that. Elizabeth and Gary couldn't have been more welcoming and it's one of those places where everyone makes you feel completely welcome immediately. Plenty of free parking and a great atmosphere, we'll definitely be going back and I hope anyone reading this supports them too.

We love all the businesses on Burscough Wharf. Cactus has an acoustic artist playing and entertaining the crowd. Bar staff are always helpful and friendly.

Portobello is a fantastic venue that truly shines for hosting special events like baby showers and birthday parties. Guests consistently rave about the warm hospitality provided by Luke and his dedicated team, who go above and beyond to ensure everything runs smoothly. The space itself is stunning, often requiring minimal decoration due to its natural beauty, which can help save on costs. With a convenient back room or courtyard available for buffets, along with an easy booking process, Portobello makes planning your event a breeze.
Great venue, we have just had a family birthday here, Private party, everyone loved the place and commented how lovely the place is. Staff were great, great selection of drinks🍸 🍻🍹, plenty of parking nearby. I added 5 star for food as you provide your own which can keep costs down if needed, Highly recommended venue. 👍

Just had our baby shower here today and could not fault the service from start to finish. Booking was easy and the manager was so helpful providing lots of information, we were left to our own devices to set up which made things easy for us and everyone had a wonderful afternoon and said how lovely the venue was. Would 100% recommend for events we had an amazing time thank you so much!

I had my birthday and babyshower here and could not be happier! Luke and the team helped me with everything! The venue was spotless in the morning so my decorators could come right in with no issues. I didn’t need to do much decoration because it is gorgeous which saved me lots of money! Staff were amazing and friendly!

This is a fantastic little gem of a place. Staff are wonderful, cocktails to die for and food is always excellent. 👌

Had my baby shower here, Luke, his family and staff was the most kind and helpful ever helping us before and after the event and just lovely welcoming people in general. Venue as always didn’t disappoint, everyone was commenting how gorgeous it was and reasonably priced. You can have your buffet in the back room / courtyard which they provide a table for, and the deposit can be redeemed in drinks so doesn’t cost to hire(which isn’t the same for a lot of places)! Just want to say a massive thank you and any future parties for our family will be here and will 100% be recommending! Also have baby changing facility & disabled toilet downstairs so thought into every aspect of the bar.

Went for a christening party and would of had all 5 stars if there was more staff working only issue other than that it's a nice place.
Andrew L — Google review
I didn't have any food but it forced me to put in an answer! Other than that I could not fault the place. Nice friendly atmosphere, toilets were clean and the staff both friendly and professional.
