There is only 8 places in this world which have this kind of pristine-torquoise waters: the Bahamas, Maldives, Palawan (the Philippines), Bora Bora, Zanzibar, Whitsundays Island (Australia), Turk and Caicos and, of course, Miyako-jima, Japan. And it is exactly Yonaha Maehama Beach that has this surreal waters. So beautiful. You can literally walk 100 meters into the middle of the sea and water level is still only at your ankle. Combining with the bridge on the left side, it really makes Yonaha Maehama Beach a true paradise on earth. And among the 8 places that offer pristine turquoise water, I dare to say that Miyako-jima and Yonaha Maehama in particular is the most peaceful and accessible one, as there are direct flights from big Japanese cities and the Airbus A321/Boeing 737 can easily land in the Miyako airport.
Beautiful wide beach with very fine sand and astonishing water colors! The are also plenty of fish swimming around you as well!
It is a beautiful beach with amazing sand and even a bathroom. Additionally there are many services that offer banana boats and jet skis. I would recommend visiting here eapecially barefoot.
Crystal clear water, like the best swimming pool in the world.
Truly one of the most beautiful beaches in Okinawa. Powdery white sand. Stunning stretch of coastline where you can easily find your own little paradise. The ocean here is a mesmerizing shade of aqua perfect for swimming or simply soaking in the view. Bonus: free parking, showers, and restroom.
This beach is absolutely stunning — crystal-clear turquoise water, powdery white sand, and peaceful surroundings. Whether you’re swimming, relaxing, or just taking in the view, the vibe is pure serenity. The contrast of the vibrant sea against the lush green island in the distance makes it feel like a postcard come to life. Definitely one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever visited!
Really beautiful beach. I loved it.
After touring around all the beaches on Miyakojima and nearby islands, Yonaha is the best beach for suntanning for me. It is easy to access and has free parking. There are sun beds renting services available, there is a cafe on the beach and a shower/toilet. The beach itself is very long, with amazing soft white sand. There are more shallow areas further towards tokyu hotel for the ones coming with kids. In the evening you can be lucky to view amazing sunset, if not too cloudy. The only thing I wouldn’t come here for is snorkeling: haven’t really seen any fish here.

Such a cool place to take in the beautiful emerald ocean. They also have a couple of places you can pull over on the bridge to take pics and videos from the middle. So thoughtful.
Epic, out-of-this-world place with the feeling of a car literally going up into the beautiful sea of Miyako-jima. You can never get bored crossing this bridge.
Irabu Ohashi Bridge is incredibly long and offers some of the most stunning views of the ocean in Miyakojima. The water below is a beautiful shade of blue and changes color depending on the sunlight and weather, making the drive feel like you're floating above a tropical paradise. There are a few parking spots along the way where you can safely stop, get out, and take photos. Definitely worth doing—some of the best views of the bridge and the water are from these pull-off areas. If you're visiting Miyakojima, driving across this bridge is a must. Even if you’re not heading to Irabu Island for anything specific, the drive alone is worth it.
There is passing place in the middle of the bridge, can take good photo here, sometimes there are sea turtles swimming
Amazing. Go to the viewing deck to see the whole bridge!
An impressive bridge 3.543km connecting Miyako and Irabu islands. The longest non-toll bridge in Japan.
One of the most popular tourist attractions in Miyako, the 3,540m long Irabu Ohashi Bridge connects Miyako Island and Irabu Island. As you drive across the bridge you can look over the turquoise ocean. Loved the he unique view as you go up and down the unique curve of the bridge.
What a bridge! Amazing architecture and no toll charge. On the Irabu side there is a nice shop, service area and restaurant.

This is an amazing beach – truly a hidden gem! The sea is beautifully blue with stunning gradients, and the natural surroundings are breathtaking, with rocks and cliffs lining the shore. The sand is soft and clean! Not many people come here often, which is why the beach remains so pristine. One of the best beaches in Miyakojima! Highly recommended! 🏝️✨🌊⛰️💙
Sunayama Beach is a stunning spot known for its soft white sands and crystal-clear waters. Its infinite shallow water area makes it perfect for wading and relaxing. The iconic natural rock arch adds a unique charm, making it great for photos and peaceful strolls. It’s an ideal place to soak up the sun and enjoy serene ocean views away from the crowds.
This was our favorite beach on Miyakojima – actually, our favorite across all four Okinawan islands we visited! This is the place where you really understand what "Miyako Blue" means – the water is stunningly clear and vibrantly blue, almost unreal. It seems to be quite a well-known beach in Asia, as we noticed tourist buses stopping by regularly. The groups typically just take photos and leave within minutes, so it never felt crowded or disruptive. Facilities are minimal: there’s a paid shower and restroom next to the parking lot, but nothing directly on the beach – no shops, bars, or food stalls, which actually adds to the untouched, peaceful vibe. We did a bit of snorkeling – you can see some fish, but it’s nothing extraordinary in that regard. Still, the water alone is worth the visit. Highly recommend for a relaxing beach day surrounded by natural beauty!
First sunset in Miyako and I Will never forget it, see photos, great for swimming, pristine water. The beach itself is small but most definitely not to miss in Miyakojima
My favourite beach in Miyakojima! Especially at low tide, you can enjoy soaking up sunshine at knee level waters. The rock formation at the sides gives the beach a more distinctive character.
This beach is so pretty and peaceful. You can see fish with the naked eye and the water is so clear. You can chill under the cave if you need shade. Overall one of my fav beaches here in Miyakojima
Stunning. Go when the sun is still out but slowly setting. Many tiny fish come out at this time and jump out of the water.
Very clean beach, with very clean water. Parking around 200 metres from beach with toilets.

Rocky headland popular for sunrise watching, with paved, vegetation-fringed paths & a lighthouse.

Personally, it’s an unforgettable place for me so my review is very biased. The ticket to the lighthouse is 300yen and you have to take 97 steps to reach the top. The surrounding areas are free to explore and parking that was a 10-minute walk from the cape was also free.
Great scenic places. You can go on top of the lighthouse for 300 and if you'll be lucky tonight the cashier from time to time is plain music!
Great scenic view of the southern tip of the island. Lots of parking with kids playground.
This beautiful spot is located in the southeast of Miyako Island. The iconic lighthouse is just a 5-minute walk from the free parking lot. If you enjoy hiking while taking in stunning coastal views, this is the perfect destination.
When I climbed the tower, I saw a breathtaking view. The wind was strong, but the sea was beautiful, and I was moved. It’s a great spot to visit while on a drive.
I climbed the lighthouse and enjoyed a beautiful view. I walked down to an area where a couple boats were parked and saw sea turtles swimming around the blue water! The beach area was lively.
Pretty scenic viewpoint when you can spot the clear difference in the color in two body of water at either sides of the lighthouse.
Beautiful scenery! I went there on a monday at around 6PM. There were few clouds and almost no people around! If you have a car while visiting Miyakojima, make sure to visit this spot!

I went out to the sandy beach and walked along the coastline, but when I saw people coming out, I realized that I could walk for the first time, which was great, but it was a little scary because it was so high up. Excellent place for scuba diving Will need to arrive no later than 7:00 am in order to have parking space. There are beach umbrellas with chairs and a table for 2000yen 1000yen for parking Plenty of fish and Coral There is also a small number of turtles Will definitely come again
Probably the most perfect place to snorkel!! In a very shallow area, a lot of fishes and even sea turtle are moving around so that anyone having equipement could easily enjoy the oceanic beauty. Unbelievable how can all these species can live in this shallow water, this close to the shore.
Aragusuku Beach isn’t the most stunning beach in Miyakojima, but it definitely has its own charm — especially if you’re hoping to see sea turtles. I was lucky enough to spot three swimming together while snorkeling! (Sadly, I only have GoPro footage, no pics.) I also saw a huge pufferfish. Parking isn’t free, but it’s organized, and you can also rent a table, chairs, and an umbrella at a reasonable price. I rented a life vest from a friendly guy in the parking lot — he also shared some great tips about other beaches around the island, which was super helpful. There are snacks available right by the beach, including Okinawa soba. We tried the hot dogs, and they were surprisingly good and affordable. Overall, a relaxing place with a unique wildlife experience. Worth a visit if you're on Miyakojima, especially if you're into snorkeling.
I visited this beach on November 9th, and there were no beach loungers, deck chairs or beers unlike what you might see in other photos: maybe those are there just in 'summer' months. There was only a small kiosk renting snorkelling gear, like fins and snorkels 🤿. Both the fins and the snorkel cost 1000 yen each (so 2000 yen in total). I rented both, but honestly, the fins were completely useless as the water is shallow for quite a long stretch from the shore: just with the snorkel and a little exploring, I was able to spot some absolutely massive sea turtles, about a meter long, swimming just a few centimeters away from me....truly incredible! The seabed is mostly sandy, but there are also underwater rocks, some coral formations, and a few weirdly beautiful tropical fish here and there. The weather on November 9th was mostly cloudy, not much sun, but still warm, around 28°C. Cheers!
I rate this beach 5 stars because it was one of the best snorkeling in my life. Only La Digue in Seychelles provided better spots. The beach itself is very nice, but not amazing, but you will definitely see many different fish in a HUGE amount, a very nice experience!
Free parking lot if you arrive early enough, otherwise ¥1000. Free toilets and shower facilities, a couple of people greeted us to introduce the beach. I though they would charge us or try to sell us something but did not. Food is available from the cart, drinks from a few places. Seats with no umbrella are free. Wave size and depth makes this very suitable for kids. It’s a very easy snorkel, going further out it gets better for adults. We saw three kinds of clown fish, and there are turtles if you look hard. They are pretty chilled just chewing the grass. Staff in concessions were all helpful and friendly to us.
My favorite beach on island! Well maintained and you can rental life vest, floats, shoes and snorkeling gear. There’s showers and restrooms. Parking was ¥2000
Unfortunately there was a lot of plastic trash this morning, there’s no shade and the beach felt crowded with people on snorkeling tours. The 2,000 yen parking is a bit expensive unless you stay here the whole day.

Toriike Pond is a peaceful hidden gem perfect for a quiet escape. The serene waters and lush surroundings create a calming atmosphere ideal for a stroll or some reflective downtime. Plus, there’s a lovely photo spot facing the ocean that makes for stunning views and great pictures. A perfect blend of nature and tranquility.

The geological formations are truly captivating and unique. I have never encountered anything comparable before. The excursion is undoubtedly worthwhile.
View of the open ocean near the end is mesmerising. On a clear sunny day, the pond water and ocean is sparkling along with the bright green trees populating the space. It can get very hot, but it won’t be crowded because this place is very secluded, making it great for freedom photography.
Serene. Two deep sinkholes formed by limestone erosion and connected to the sea below, the colors of the water shift with the sunlight.
Its a unique sight seeing spot. Its free of cost. Both sides of the bridge has a huge pond filled with blue water. Its very unique. Must see.

The Ryuuguujo Observation Deck offers a mesmerizing panorama of its surroundings. The well-designed deck enhances the overall experience, making it an ideal spot for both relaxation and photography enthusiasts. Whether day or night, the Ryuuguujo Observation Deck provides an unforgettable perspective, making it a worthwhile visit for anyone exploring the area.
Good place to visit! Parking, easy to park and find. A minute walk to the observation deck. Only stairs.
The style of the tower is interesting. The view is good. Nothing too special. Drive carefully, the road around is narrow.
My husband and I ventured here and loved the view!! Plenty of parking in front of it and the observation deck is just down the way from a couple of good restaurants and I think a coffee place! The views really were beautiful! The only thing I’d caution people on are the spiders. Oh wow - they were huge. We found two in the right side of the building and one on a tree headed out. 😰😱 But the view...was great!
The destination for all the rental cars that cross the long bridge to tiny Kurima Island. Parking lot can get full. Climb to the top for a spectacular view. Best on sunny days to get the most of the blue
To access to the old and ugly observation deck with a car requires some effort. But the view the deck offer is great. I had a great time enjoy the environment on August 19, 2019.
Restrooms are accessible very close to it, although not necessarily in the best conditions when I visit. The view is nice, definitely worth a quick check!
Very good view point of Kurima bridge

What a beautiful beach. The water is very clear love to swim and relaxing. The sand was very soft and beautiful place. The parking lot was limited only and has a coin shower facilities next to the toilet 100 yen for 4 minutes only. Available for rent : big umbrella 1500yen. Towel Small boat Swim ring inflatable
Beautiful beach with pristine clear waters and white sand, they have a car park and some coffee stores/vending machine next to the beach, so every refueling demand from travellers should be well met. These are spots to take some epic photos as well. To reach Toguchi-no-hama you will also have to cross the Irabuohashi Bridge, which is a great experience itself. The only small minus point is the beach is a bit short and there are only few beach chairs there. Still, it is definitely worth to spend an afternoon at this beach.
It was beautiful and definitely not crowded. We saw a few surfers and had plenty of room in the water without worrying about others. The parking was pretty good as well.
The beach is beautiful and stunning! Lots of visitors come here! It's a perfect place to have fun and relax with your family! Don't forget to enjoy every moment! 🏖️☀️👨‍👩‍👧‍👦✨
One of the top beaches on Miyakojima! The crystal clear water is great for swimming and relaxing in the water with calm waves. Beautiful fish that swim around you and we even saw a stingray. Not the best beach for snorkeling especially compared to others in the area but if you just want to relax in the water or on the beach it's perfect! There is also plenty of space on the beach so even if it's pretty busy you can have plenty of space and get away from everyone. There's a couple spots along the back wall with some shade under some trees. Otherwise there are not much more than one or two shady spots so if you don't want to be in the sun make sure you bring an umbrella.
Among the most powdery white sands of any beaches in the area. Be prepared to be burnt because there isn’t much of a shade. Parking is free, but only has about 15-20 spots. There’s a small eatery that has Blue Seal ice cream right by the beach entrance.
One of the most beautiful beaches I’ve been too! The sand was a beautiful white and very soft and the water was a beautiful emerald color. Such a nice place to relax and swim. Of all the beaches we visited in Miyakojima this was the best one for swimming.
Absolutely beautiful beach. One of the best beaches in Miyako, Okinawa and all of Japan. Can jet ski and kayak here but not for diving as there isn’t many corals. I recommend to take a jet ski tour when it’s a beautiful day. You won’t regret it.

I was a little skeptical before going there but now I fully recommend it. Although I love snorkeling and watching the sea creatures while doing so, the underwater park is a great way for children or elderly or people who are simply not as fond of snorkeling themselves to see different fish and other animals of the ocean. As it is no aquarium, noone can tell you beforehand, what you will see. Our highlight was a seasnake. There was also a kind employee explaining different things. Unfortunately only in Japanese but when we asked him something in English, he was using a translation app so that he could answer our questions. As we got there only 45 minutes before closure we did not have time to look around everywhere but it seemed as if you could spend another hour there.
It was a cloudy day in Miyakojima, so we decided to visit the Miyako Island Underwater Park. We hadn’t seen much advertising for it, but we found it on the map and decided to go. Just a heads-up—it’s cash only, so make sure to bring some with you. The park’s design was really interesting, and we saw many fish right at the entrance and even more in the underwater viewing areas. It felt like being inside a spaceship! We even spotted Nemo (a clownfish), which was a fun surprise. I definitely recommend visiting this park, especially if you have kids—they’ll absolutely love it! .
A great place to visit on a rainy day — perfect for families with children! Here, you can learn about different kinds of fish and discover how the underwater park was built. It’s an educational yet entertaining experience: you can finish the visit in just five minutes or spend up to half an hour exploring the fascinating world of marine life. Occasionally, the fish might not appear right away — if that happens, take a moment to wait. They might have just finished eating and wandered off for a bit. Two minor drawbacks are that some of the glass panels aren’t very clean, making it a bit hard to see clearly in certain areas. Also, there are quite a lot of stairs when going downstairs, which can be challenging for the elderly or anyone with limited mobility.
I saw a big seasnake, countless fishes, green, blue, yellow, all colorful. They swim freely and you look from under water. There is always plenty.
Many kind of fish.,cystal clear water! Its a place worth to visit!
Under the ocean view can see the surface from a fish perspective.
It's a good place to go when it's hard to do outdoor activities because of weather codition. You can comfortably see various aquatic creatures!
Quite a nice little seaside park but not exceptional. In my opinion, the undersea Observatory is interesting, but there weren't so many different kinds of fish to see, and we were again unable to see the famous sea turtles of Miyako Island. There are extensive walking trails around the area and a couple of small beaches which might be very pleasant, but it was pouring rain by the time we were halfway through our visit, so we're not able to get down to the beach. It's a fun activity working with seashells and making things (for kids or anyone who likes hand crafting), and there were many different kinds of shells for sale. The cafe on the deck is quite good, had good quality filtered coffee, and nice small meals featuring local ingredients, including the locally raised beef, maguro tuna, fresh mango, etc.

A beautiful place to stroll for an hour. Enjoy the winding pathways around the bay that lead to a beautiful ocean lookout. If you have your swimsuit you can hop n the water and enjoy tropical fish. The water is very clear! Parking is free and the viewpoints are definitely worth a camera stop!
Beautiful place with beaches and paths around the whole area.
We went on a cloudy and windy day but it was still worth the trip. A lot of people paddle boarding and snorkeling because the water is protected and more calm here.
Such an awesome spot for snorkeling swimming chill
Awesome and peaceful place to snorkel. If the water is calm, can easily go snorkel outside of the inlet.
You can enjoy water activities here or simple walk around to take in the Miyako blue.
Has really nice views but it would be nice if there was a public restroom in the area.
Beautiful place for a nice walk, snorkeling, kayaking, and Sup! You must visit “DIVE 宮古島” shop right next to here. You will be able to meet a cold looking but kind miyakojima island captain, Hiro-san! Recommend to someone who can speak Japanese and who wants to experience scuba diving! :)
