I was really impressed with the Hakuba Cortina Ski Resort. The resort has an European design to it and has all the accommodations needed for a great ski/snowboarding experience. The ski hill is located right at the resort - step outside and you can see the chairlifts. They have snow bikes and other snow activities available here too. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The snow quality here is excellent and the runs weren’t too busy, which was very pleasant. The price of the ski tickets/day pass & stay are very reasonable compared to other resorts in the area. Definitely worth the visit!!! I will be back again very soon 🔜 Enjoy 😊
A lot of snow for a resort that is only 872m high. Only 15 runs and more off piste runs on powder snow but for intermediate skiers that would be a bit more challenging. Not much around apart from the resorts so you will eat all your meals there
This resort is a family-friendly ski resort that provides the perfect mix of adventure, relaxation, and togetherness. It’s the kind of place where lifelong memories are made, whether it’s your child’s first ski run or a magical evening spent sipping hot cocoa under the stars. This is a great place for families of all sizes to enjoy the winter and learn how to ski. One standout feature of this ski resort is its variety of slopes. Gentle, well-groomed beginner runs allow kids and first-timers to build confidence, while intermediate and advanced trails keep seasoned skiers and snowboarders entertained. This resorts also offer ski and snowboard lessons tailored to children and adults, ensuring everyone learns at their own pace. Off the slopes, the resort’s activities make it a wonderful place with onsens overlooking the mountain which allow you to enjoy a memorable moment on snowy days. Accessibility and convenience are also key. Shuttle services, ski-in/ski-out accommodations, and equipment rentals make the experience seamless for families juggling gear and small children. The staff’s friendliness and expertise further enhance the welcoming atmosphere.
Great hill for all skill levels. Spent the day hunting out powder and there's awesome back country and side country if you're prepared and happy to do little walks. The coffee is awesome but the lunch options are not quite as good as other hills, it seems they're trying to do a European theme. Five starts, would shred again!
Good utility at Cortina, as the lift-pass also gets you access to the Norikura lifts. Cortina had a good variety of slopes suitable to many skill levels, but I felt the total number of slopes was a little low. Conditions were good when I was there and it felt rather quiet compared to the other resorts. I appreciated coming here at the start of my time in Hakuba so I could get used to being on skis again, but preferred the larger resorts further south in Hakuba once I'd got my footing.
We only did the ‘Night Game’, and it was pretty good. Amazing price, minimal waiting, and just one trail — but it was wide and well-lit. Although it might be boring for advanced riders and skiers, it’s a great option for beginners and intermediates to practice their skills on a half-empty slope during an unconventional night riding session.
One of the great ski resort in Hakuba. The green plaza hotel is located just next to chair-lift which offers you the ski-in and ski-out convenience. The hotel is a magnificent one with a fairy tale appearance. You can even enjoy senior discount for any skier who are 50 year of age or above. Runs are suitable for beginners and intermediate skiers and/or snowboarders. Even if you are not staying in the hotel, it is easily accessible by the shuttle bus services. There is also a big parking lot and you can park there for free. Snow quality is wonderful and you will not feel hurt because of the very powder snow.
Smaller snow resort. Great powder +experience. Iconic red +white Lodge (reminded me of a Japanese & Swiss flag?) Enjoyed the mountain , lifts and appreciated that parking was free+close to the resort. On icy days , be careful of the drive up. The switchbacks were slippery and motion sickness inducing.

If you need a break from the city and are seeking to heal your exhausted soul, you should visit here. You can wander around in the park located at 1,900 m/ 6233 ft. I went to this place in June with my family, and it was such a pretty place. Walking the whole park took me 3 hours, but there are some benches to eat lunch and rest. At the entrance of the park, there is a food court and restrooms. I definitely recommend that you wear hiking boots. Some stairs are rotten, so be careful. There was some snow left in June, and it was quite something. You need tickets for a gondola and the park. I don't think you need to buy tickets in advance. Also, it was still cold in June, so bring a warm jacket with you.
Visited this nature hiking place yesterday 4 Nov as it was still open. However the autumn foliage seems to be all gone however the park is still beautiful. It is a vast area and it will be good to cater enough time of at least 3-4 hours. It wasn’t very difficult to walk as the place largely lined with boardwalk. Pretty amazing!!!!
Went on the last day that hiking was allowed for this area, which was 3rd Nov. The weather was perfect, with cloud floating and touching the ground, making it so beautiful and poetic 🥹 Since it's autumn, the colors of orange cover the whole valley. I might be back somewhere around mid Oct to be able to see the folliage in full form.
We went in a cloudy day, so it was less than expected, yet pretty and nice hike!
What a stunning place to hike. Don't let the clouds and fog deter you, we started out not being able to see a thing on the cable car ride, but by the time we reached the hikes peak, we were rewarded with these amazing autumn views. The track was rocky, slippery and uneven - whiles it's a relatively easy hike, don't underestimate the level of fitness needed for the entire circuit to reach the advantage point to see the mountain views. Our date of hike 7 Oct, 2025.
Beautiful and relatively easy hike. We visited mid-October — red foliage was gone, but the quiet autumnal beauty of the mountains is breathtaking. Scenic terrace at the end of the hike is perfect for a break & onigiri.
Wonderful wet land at 1900 meters high. Stroll freely for two or three hours.
Great hike with boardwalk for the bulk of it. Some decent pitches as well.

Tsugaike holds a special place in my heart. Very wide and very long slopes are well suited for learners and those wanting a more relaxed experience. It was busy when I was here, but it never felt 'crowded'. Experts or those wanting more of a challenge may find the runs themselves a bit lacking, or the gondola ride long. But even though I would move on to the higher-level resorts further south later in the week, I could never be disappointed with the experience at Tsugaike. Lots of restaurants and bars on these slopes and in this village too, and a convenience store is near the base if you want to stock-up before taking the bus out.
Fantastic resort for beginners to intermediate. Highly recommended if starting out. You won’t get bored with the long and very wide runs
Love this place. The slope are nice. The snow is very fluffy and soft. I am a beginner snowboarder but I like here anyway 😃
Very suitable for beginner! Two side of the ski resort are both lift and gondola available to access to the uphill, both are suitable for beginner for practice.
This ski resort has slopes that are excellent for beginners. We visited in early March, and even though there were many other visitors, the slopes were vast and wide, so it didn't feel crowded. It's perfect for beginners to practice. Additionally, they have a course through the forest, which in my opinion is really fun. During our visit, there happened to be some attractions, including fireworks and drum shows.
This is the Tsugaike Mountain Resort. Visited on the end of Jan 2024 for skiing. Unfortunately, there is no fresh powder snow as it hasn't snowed in the last several days, however the slopes are perfectly groomed and compressed. Flat, wide and long, the pistes for expert are excellent as well as for behinners. There are 4 car parking lots around the resort. Recommended the Champion Car Parking Lot where you can park for free on weekdays and weekends from 6:00 to 18:00. It takes about a minute to walk to the nearest slope. Ski straight down the slope in a couple of minutes, you will reach the ticket office then. No deposit is required for a lift ticket, so you can go straight back to this parking lot.
Had my first snowboard lesson here. A great place to learn as it's a very moderate slope in the beginner areas and isn't super busy like some of the more central resorts

Norikura is a great ski resort. Ski-in, ski-out. No need for buses. Lot's of powder snow with side-country & back-country options, interconnected with Cortina by chairlift.
Fun little hill with good terrain for beginners and advanced riders. Mix between groomers and a few tree runs. One section requires backcountry gear and a beacon to access.
We've just visited in early February 2025 and the snow conditions were excellent. There are three good runs for beginners at the bottom of the mountain (run 6, on the northern end is particularly picturesque) and as you move up the mountain is challenging terrain for better skiers. Ski pass is really good value for money. Food options on/near the resort are pretty good - try Snow Drop, Peppermint or Cafe Heidi.
A laidback resort with a Japanese feel. Not as crowded as other ski resorts in Hakuba and the snow was better, too. My highlight was that even the green beginner run has mini tree runs. Also the lifts are super easy to get on and off. Perfect for people wanting to learn snowboarding or skiing! People even brought their dogs and skied with them. Lots of parking available. Only downside is the lack of restaurants (only one) and no resting / chill out places. Recommend and would go back!
A very quiet resort, relative to Cortina or better known Hakuba spots. Lifts are a little slower, slopes a little mellow.. snow quality can be a bit wet or heavy as lower altitude. That said, it's nice to avoid the crowds. Plenty of powder options, runs a little shorter and you'll definitely want to buy the Norikura/Cortina combined pass.
This is definitely the spot to be on a major powder day. Not crowded, unlike other resorts in Hakuba, and beautiful scenery and powder spots. If you have not visited, give it a go!
This is the Hakuba Norikura Onsen Snow Resort. Visited at the beginning of Feb 2024 for skiing. Unfortunately, there is no fresh powder snow as it hasn't snowed in the last several days, and the most of the slopes are icy and so hard, however the slopes are well groomed and great condition for skiing and or training. Also it will also be fun to go to beyond of the lift No.11. There are several car parking lots. They are on the other side of the road, but it seems that some cars are parked diagonally on the side of the road. There are no attendants. The way to the ticket office is uphill and quite a walk, so be careful if you are with children. There are no restrooms in the car park. Use the restrooms in the hotel. The ticket office is in front of the hotel. A deposit is not required and the ticket is a common ticket for Hakuba Cortina and Hakuba Norikura.
Good and less crowded ski resort, good for self practice and group lesson. I never worry hit or being hitted by 3rd party when practice reserve ski at the track. Also good scene too

(Translated by Google) If you leave the Chikoku Bansho Ruins and walk southwest past Ushikata-juku, you will reach Tsugaike Plateau. If you walk about 1 kilometer toward the southwest along the foot of a low mountain called Maeyama, you will come to a place where 100 Kannon statues (a group of stone Buddha statues) are lined up. It is located on the eastern outskirts of Tsugaike Kogen Ski Resort, and is a wetland and forest area where water from melting snow gathers. Today, the west side of Mt. Maeyama has been cut open, and it is located at the eastern end of the Tsugaike Kogen Ski Resort, with a grassland open to the west. The group of stone Buddha statues known as Hyakutai Kannon is located in a thicket of trees at the foot of a ridge called Maeyama, and to the west, the slopes of an open plateau spread out and continue toward the peak of Mt. Hakuba Norikura. Along the Salt Road, there are many opportunities to encounter stone Buddhas and shrines and join hands in prayer. You could almost call it a path of prayer. A group of stone Buddha statues are lined up on the slope at the foot of the mountain. During the Edo period, it must have been right in the middle of a dense forest. According to the information board, the year it was built is unknown, but 100 Kannon statues were gathered here from sacred sites and temples in Saigoku, Chichibu, and Bando, which are pilgrimage sites. It seems that the custom of visiting temples became popular in the late Edo period, so I think the stone Buddha group was enshrined there by the mid-19th century. It is said that since the Edo period, the people of Chikoku-go have been making stone Buddha statues in each house and placing them as dedications at key points in the village and on the roads.

Super polite and helpful English-speaking staff. Cottage is a bit old but it is spacious and nice. The bathroom is not so good, hot water is not consistent. Should have a vacuum cleaner for us to do some cleaning up since house keeping is only available once every 4 days. There are nicer and newer ones around too.

(Translated by Google) Hakuba Oike Station (Hakuba Oike Eki) is an unmanned station on the JR East Oito Line in Otari Village, Kitaazumi District, Nagano Prefecture. It opened in 1948 and is numbered 11. It is located 65.4 km from Matsumoto Station. It has one single platform and one track, and the station building is made of reinforced concrete. Surrounded by the Himekawa River and the Northern Alps, the station is used as a base for the Tsugaike Kogen Ski Resort and mountain climbing. It is known for its natural environment, with many skiers and climbers visiting the area. There is a bus stop to Tsugaike Plateau, but the frequency is very few (see the photo for the frequency). Remember to draw a ticket after getting on the train, and pay with the driver when you get off the train. If you stop at a station with a station attendant, you will pay when you exit the station. (Translated by Google) If you walk from Hakuba Station to Shinano Morikami Station, there are no trains. I had no choice but to walk along National Route 148 all the way to Minami Otari, but I didn't see anyone walking. And it looks like a bear might come out. I wouldn't be surprised if there were signs warning of bears. So I arrived at Hakuba Oike Station. It's like coming by car. I don't think anyone likes walking, let alone riding trains.

It might be good for charriders. There are remnants of a KIOSK in the past.
(Translated by Google) The parking lot in front of the station is unusually large. In the past, did many route buses going to Tsugaike Kogen stop here? Although the structure has not been able to exchange trains for a long time, there are traces of multiple exits, so it must have been crowded with tourists in the 1960s and 1970s...When you think about it, it's sad to see its current decline. …
(Translated by Google) It's a relatively simple, unmanned station with one track and one surface, a decent waiting room, and National Route 148 and the Hime River flowing in front of the station, so there's nothing special about it. Although it's not within walking distance, it's also the closest station to Tsugaike Kogen in the nearby Hida Mountains (Northern Alps), so depending on the time of year it might be used by mountain climbers or ski resort users. It seems like it's usually used by local students.

The tube slide is exhilarating! We went after a week of rain so most attractions were closed but the tube slide was open. We payed ¥1000/ ride but found out afterwards that you can do 3 rides for ¥1600. We purchased the extra tickets and was not disappointed! If you don’t speak Japanese, just know, hold the handles through the whole jump and lean forward! Such a thrill! Also, we did the bike ride over the river- super scary! We were glad we did it, as it challenged our fear, but WOW, it challenged us (adult and 9 year old!)
Top Level Snow Best Snow I ever had having snow experience in Sweden Austria Italy and Germany
Ski haven.. one stop for all levels
What a day! Long wide slopes
(Translated by Google) Although buggies are expensive, we highly recommend them. Pochadas was the second best. I went to Obon in the summer of 2024. The water in the pond is cold, so participants will be able to use the tent sauna, so rash guards are sufficient. For lunch, we had Burger King. I was there from 9am to 3pm. There are many types of activities, so I narrowed down the ones I would like to participate in. Parking is available nearby for 500 yen per day. There is a reception desk 5 minutes up the lift. Lifts are free. If you do not bring a swimsuit, you will not be able to participate in Pochadas.
(Translated by Google) First of all, you should definitely ride the buggy! You'll be more than satisfied with the price. The speed and thrills are better than most roller coasters! (Unpredictable movements) Even though the water temperature at Pochadas is cold, it feels nice if you're moving, but it might be too cold if you stay in it for too long. Also, if you fall in, it's hard to get up. But everyone from children to adults had a great time here.
(Translated by Google) It seems like an adventure spot in the summer, but in the winter it's a very large and wide ski resort with several courses. It seems like a famous place with many shops, bars and a burger joint that looks very tasty and a bit American-style. There are so many cable cars that I couldn't even count them all. There's not enough time to slide down all the courses in one day. There's also a gondola that goes halfway up the mountain. But if you want to continue climbing to the top, it will still take a few minutes. You can stay in the same cabin to go up to the top of the mountain. Since it's so high, it takes a while to get there. The scenery is very beautiful. The snow is very soft and fluffy. There are a lot of people, and the parking lot is small for such a large place. They charged us ¥1000 yen to park our car. It's the first time I've seen a ski resort charging for parking. But it was totally worth it. I recommend it! I've never been in the summer, but next time I want to go. A neve é bem fofa e macia.
(Translated by Google) We went on the first Sunday of September. Even though it was a Sunday, there were only a few people there... but we were able to climb Cabedas right away, which was great. Our reservation for Tobidas was over in a flash, but it was fun, and Cogidas was more thrilling than we expected... (Maybe it was just me, but the whole family (adults) enjoyed it. Maybe it was because it was empty, but we couldn't climb Cabedas in the first try, and we almost fell... but the staff were friendly and helpful, letting us try again, and showing us tips and demonstrations on the slackline. I'd definitely like to go again.
