Best dive site in Sipadan!! Jack fish storm, barracuda, sea turtles, Double-headed parrotfish
Stayed on Sipadan island back in 2003 . I still dream about it ! It was a perfect experience ! Initially I stayed in Kapalai for three nights and then on Sipadan island for four nights . Everything was perfect , very few people were allowed on the island at the same time . Diving there was divine , as , weather conditions visibility and especially the abundance of so many different forms of life were ideal ! The resort was simple but with full amenities and very helpful people . I feel lucky for enjoying this experience !
One of the best diving spots I’ve ever visited thus far…though it wasn’t cheap to dive in Sipadan but I’m appreciative of the efforts to conserve our beautiful environment :) you’ve got to see it for yourself!
the vis and weather is perfect but sometimes u just need more luck to meet the hammerhead shark
A great dive point to view the stunning barracuda swimming in schools around you
Actually we found barracudas in turtle patch spot

I did a 2 day 1 night snorkeling package here. Their accommodation on mabul is a very comfy and well taken care of longhouse. Every meal is a buffet of chicken and fish, several vegetables, watermelon, rice, and porridge. They will also cook any seafood that you buy from the local seafood vendors who stop by multiple times a day. At night, the local kids come by and they are hilarious! The instructors also drink and sing songs with guests on the rooftop deck. The snorkeling was great and I was lucky enough to basically have a private guide who took me out farther and helped me practice swimming down so I could observe the smaller fish. Shout out to Uriel/Ariel. Overall, it was a phenomenal experience. As a word of caution, bring in your clothes before you go to sleep or they might blow away and end up on shore. Oh and you can also watch sea turtles at night and in the morning.
Massive thanks to Roy and the gang. We completed our open water PADI with Roy and Rim, we were very sad to leave. Roy is passionate about his job, great at teaching and communicating underwater putting us at ease, he is trustworthy and made our course so much fun! Highly recommend to anyone wanting to try diving or do PADI courses. Even though we weren’t the luckiest in regards to water visibility we saw turtles on every dive. Rim was great with the go pro as well, taking some fantastic videos on our last dive. Good luck in the football league ✌🏼 Callum and Sash
Big John Scuba was the best thing that happened to me in Mabul. The whole staff are professionals, but treat you like a family. Mr. Wong genuinely cares for your well being and makes sure you are doing fine. My instructor, Roy, somehow managed to be both super professional while also being a lot of fun. If there’s one person who can teach you to dive and overcome the fear of it, it’s him.♥️ Also, the food served is delicious, in fact the most delicious food I’ve tried in the whole Malaysia, full of protein and vegetarian options. I loved my stay. Terima kasih. Katerina🐟
Did an island hopping/snorkelling (Bohey dulang package) trip and was impressed with this company - friendly and professional (unlike some unlicensed companies in Semporna). The guides informed us of the plan at every stage and were there to answer any questions. The islands are stunning, however the rubbish problem is very very sad.
Firstly the communication with mark while organising the trip was fast, clear and easy. Transfers from airport were arranged by them. I did my AOW with mark and everything was smooth and explained. Very comfortable. There was plenty of food while staying on mabul. After a few days it felt variety was lacking. Free room upgrade which was really appreciated. The rooms are good. No wifi on mabul but there is some at scuba junkie 10 min walk away. No bar but can take beers and put them in the fridge. My girlfriend opted for the snorkelling option instead of diving. The snorkelling instructors were really nice and ensured she has a great experience. However on occasion especially driving to the first stop in the morning the boat driving was crazy with guests clinging on for dear life. This resulted in some of the day tripping guests being nervous to get in the water when the boat finally stopped.
I like this scuba diving shop. but I was so unsatisfied with the driver who dropped us off at the airport from the shop. He drove way too fast like there is no tomorrow in the dark night. The car almost jumped whenever he pushed the excelerate. My bf asked him to slow down, we thought he understood, but still he drove the same. It was the scariest experience in Kotakinabalu...
I went diving with the big john team yesterday, I couldn't choose better. It was an amazing experience, as little experience I have in diving, they took care of me and I felt very safe. The diving material is in very good condition. The team is very friendly, they are very attentive. We saw giant turtles and lots of fish species. I'm very grateful. I hope I can come back one day.
Honestly perfect !!! We hired a 3 dives day-trip in Mabul and Kapalai. They gave us exceptional treatment and took care of every detail. All very friendly, the girls in the office, the guys on the boat, the instructors, the homestay people and Big Jhon, who even dived with us 3 times. We were 5 friends and they were 7 instructors. At all times they took care of our safety. It was very fun and safe. We liked it so much that we decided to extend more days in Semporna and we did 2 island hoping with them. Absolutely extraordinary everything. They made us spend the best days of our vacation. Congratulations to the Big Jhon family.

Made the right decision to book my dives and accommodation here. Not only did they guarantee two days of diving at Sipadan Island (where others wouldn't) I actually dived four days. Restaurants and markets are all within walking distance.
Old equipment and unsafe procedures: first of all: diving at Sipadan is really great ! The problem: you are obliged to dive with people like Sipadan Scuba in Sempora. There are several negative issues. - They force to buy a package. You have to dive at other sites before you go to Sipadan. - The equipment is worn off and old. In my case, my BCD was leaking constantly and during my Sipadan dive, I had a problem with my regulator and my dive was interupted to exchange the device !! - They ask you to wear the life wests in the area close to the Semporna Habour, so that the company does not get fined when seen by the police. On the trip to Sipadan, were the wave sometimes get higher, they recommend you to take it off and use it as a seat coushion !! This enables the skipper to speed more... Another hint: If you plan to go here, don’t book the taxi from / to the airport with them. They charge you double the normal taxi price ! My overall impression is that the owner tries to make a maximum of money out of the tourists. Furthermore, they try to confuse people: the place of the hotel is called Semporna Beachfront. However, there is no beach at all. Semporna is a very dirty and ugly town. They make a lot of money by dive tourists. I don’t understand why all the hotels and dive shops don’t team up in order to clean up the area around the habour and “beach” area. Judge at your own criteria if you want to make business with people like this…
There is no dive shop here, the adress is in semporna, not Tawau...
Good Staff and friendly..also good in service.

A must visit place in your bucket list if you come to Semporna, such a majestic view. Too beautiful to describe. Walking along the forest, really give calmness to your mind and soul, freshen up your day. Please wear proper shoes, sandals are not allowed, bring your own drink (but please bring down your own thrash), small towel, mosquito repellent, sunscreen, wear suitable attire for hiking because some part of the trek are quite step and bit challenging especially if it's raining during the hike or after rain. From the starting point to the Viewpoint, it's about 800 meters walking (30 minutes walking approximately depends on your pace and stamina). I've been here twice but still amazed by its beauty!
Been up here on our 2nd trip to Semporna. It was a day trip from the Mainland. The hike was like 700m, medium difficulty but manageable if u pace yrself. It gets pretty hot up there with practically no shade. Views r amazing.
A permit is needed to climb 700 meter trail . Some section being quite steep is better wear suitable footwear. Recommend to hike because the view from top is totally worth .The stunning panoramic view is so amazing . Rewarding view of blue water of the sea and island scenery .
Finally manage to hike bohey dulang. We chatted private boat to come here, when reach there then raining again (small rain). Then i pray for rain to stop and the management will let us go in. After 15 minutes, rain stops and bright sun come out. Then management allow us to go after wait for another 20 minutes. For me it's worth to pay extra money to come here, the view really spectacular.
Been here at the top of Bohey Dulang for two times back in 2016. Just love the magnicent view from the top. I miss this place🥰
To get here, you have to book tours through travel agents (many around tourist ports) or your guesthouse. If it rain the day before, they will not give you permit to hike because it will be so slippery. So luck is important. It takes 45 minutes- 1 hours to get to the top or even shorter, depends on your speed. Should be 700m high. Do bring shoes because it’s compulsory. If you don’t have, you can rent there. And it worths to try because it’s indeed so beautiful, gift of Mother Earth.
The view of the islands and the turquoise lagoon is worth the hike. It's challenging though, even though it's just a 700m trial. You need good shoes (can rent from the park) and good knees to climb a few steep sections. There are strong ropes for challenging parts of the hike to hold on to. And the park guides are stationed at every 100 meters of the trail to assist you and in case of emergencies.
great view worth for hiking Must hv cover shoe for tis hiking activity, or rent it on the spot for RM10 prefer better stamina person, but tis is not a tough way, just all the way steep up

I completed a total of 9 dives over the course of three days with Scubaholics. The experience was incredible. Ken is a great person and excellent dive master. He ensured the team was well taken care of and entertained us with stories about his life, diving experiences as well as information about the region and wildlife. While diving, Ken took some great photos/videos and kindly sent them to us. I’m new to scuba diving having only completed my open water certification 1.5 weeks prior to my dives with Scubaholics. I’m glad I choose this company because the experience really helped me feel more comfortable under water. Three days spent with great people in beautiful locations exploring underwater worlds. I loved every minute. Thanks for everything Ken. Looking forward to diving with you again in the future!
Searching among hundres of scuba center for second day fun dives at Semporna, I am lucky I see scubaholics. The day fun dives with scubaholics, me and my friend, we are together with Ken as an instructor. I highly recommend 👌 all of my friends choosing this dive center because some things below: 1. Equipment BCD, regulator...are in good condition, new and well management, I feel confident with all equipment after checking 2. Instructor, we are together with Mr.Ken, he is very kind person. And he has a lot of experience, I think he is the one, most experienced I have met up to now. 3. All staff is very friendly and they are always be there to support. 4. Time arrangement, they arrange the time very well, from first meet, gathering, moving, preparing and check ✔️ ✅️ Equipment, briefing, diving, beaktime, lunch time...up to the end of trip. Finally thanks to Scubaholics for so many wonderful moments ✨️. Thanks Mr.Ken for guiding us and sharing a lot of information.!
Planned our first trip to Semporna for 4 days of fun dive. Initially was a bit nervous as we have heard how semporna dive may be challenging for divers due to currents and we are relatively new to diving as well. Despite my pre-dive nervousness, my heart was settled and calm after I met my dive shop peeps. I really enjoyed every dive with Scubaholics as I am fitted for my gears properly. From BCD, to regulators, shorties to fin sizes, you name it, the dive shop really takes the safety and comfort of their clients seriously. We also had a sufficient space on our boat for our equipement and personal space. We enjoying the chats and new friends we met on the days of our dives. Sharing stories of the Islands and history of Sabah as well as that of our own countries. As new AOW divers, our dive guides ken enhanced the diving experience so much. We felt so safe diving with him, getting our pictures taken, seeing how he planned the trips as much as possible and bring us to the dive sites we requested to go as much as possible. He helped us to see the micro and macro things underwaters and really made it like an adventure where we explore all around underwater on our own as long as we stick closed to him. He constanly checks on us and also allow us try out practicing our skills such as deploying of our SMB, playing with buoyancy, drift diving etc. Overall, the experience was amazing, even though all 4 days was in semporna alone, but everyday is an adventures for me personally and will definitely come back here again to dive again! Thank you for making my first trip and dives in Semporna such a unforgettable one. Appreciates!!
Professional, friendly and good price. Ken and his team made our fun dives and snorkelling a great experience. The equipment is in good condition and the whole team took good care of us since we arrived until we left. Coffee, tea, crackers and a packed lunch was included on the boat trip. Our instructor even accepted bringing his action camera and shot a few photos and videos free of charge! We wish we had stayed more days in Semporna and dive more with them! We'll be back for sure!
Scubaholics was a great choice if you planned to dive from Semporna or around Sipadan Island. They operate from the Sabah mainland. They can bring you to dive around Sipadan islands such as Mataking, Mabul and Kapalai. The owner Ken was very responsive whenever we had queries from the diving trip to the recommended accommodation down to where should you have your meal. Just text him and he will get back to you asap. No hassle. The booking process was very smooth. When we arrived, he also will specifically guide you where is the actual meeting point so that you can avoid from irresponsible driver that alight you at the wrong place. FYI, there are 2 jetties in Semporna to board the dive boat. His DM Richard was also very helpful and cheeky in the same time. Funny and brought us lots of laughter during the dive trip. This is a very responsible dive centre. Safety is always a great deal for them. Do take note there are lots of illegal dive centre in Semporna that not registered as dive operator with the government. With Scubaholics, rest assure everything will be legit and smooth. We enjoy our dive throughout 4 days with Scubaholics and get to know divers from different nationality. Great job Ken and Richard.
We went diving with Scubaholics in Semporna and were lucky to have Richard as our guide for three fun dives. We were a group of five: two went diving at Sipadan with another guide he recommended (who was exceptional!), and the other three — who were initially nervous — enjoyed the experience with Richard so much that they went diving with him again afterwards. Huge thanks for his patience, teaching skills, and professionalism, which turned apprehension into pure joy!
Ken and Richard took good care of us and showed true Semporna hospitality. Nice diving sites especially Sipandan. They were professional divers with good experience. Safety standards was also good. The boat was spacious and we had a great fun diving together with other divers. Hope can do it again next time.
Perfect service and well organising for everything. Also, provided versatile food nutrition. Thank you and appreciate your all sweet smile and friendly stuff.

Tun Sakaran Marine Park (TSMP) are situated at the entrance to Darvel Bay, off the East coast of Sabah near the town of Semporna, it took about 45 minutes by speed boat from the jetty of this small town. Named after then the Head of State of Sabah, Tun Sakaran Dandai, it was gazetted in July 2004 as Sabah’s seventh park. The Park is the largest Marine Park and covering 340 sq kilometers of sea and corals reef and 10 sq kilometers of land. Comprising 8 islands, their surrounding reefs, and sea. Its main objective is to protect their environment and to promote sustainable use of natural resources. Geologically, the islands are formed from Quaternary pyroclastic material, which was ejected during explosive volcanic activity. Pulau Bodgaya, Boheydulang, Tetagan, Selakan, Sebangkat, Maiga, Sibuan and Mantabuan.
700m hike to top of the Bohey Dulang view point. The scenery were majestic eventhough the hike was very challenging (I haven't done climbing for a while). Beautiful Mantabuan and Sibuan for snorkeling and photography. Full of schools of fish around the coral but beware of the jelly fish. One of my wish list, I've done it!
Very dissapointing...Don't go... Really! Yes, the nature itself is beautiful, or at least it was at some point, but all the litter and chinese tourists just destroy the whole thing. I added some pictures where you can see how it really looks like. BTW, the reef itself is already heavily damaged. At some spots over 80% of the coral is already dead. Unfortunately I could take picures of it. If you plan on coming to Semporna to see this marine park, save yourself the time and money, and do not make the same mistake I did...
A must visit if you go to Sempurna islands, breath-taking view from the top, the hike was fun too.
After hiking more than 1 half hours. U will see a beautifull view. Penat berbaloy
This is Mantabuan Island of Semporna, beautiful n worth visiting
Beautiful place in Eastern Sabah. Easy to access via speedboat
Wonderful experience, 1st the scenery, then the trekking although unexpected and a bit steepy +500m up to the peak to enjoy the view, finally the clear sea water in shades of light blue and green emerald

I’m truly amazed by how incredible this team is, everyone was so kind, welcoming, and genuinely warm. I made the booking via WhatsApp with MJ, and after enquiring with a few other places, I chose them because they provided the clearest details and transparent pricing for everything. There were six of us, and we booked a 2-day island-hopping trip. A day before, my husband decided he wanted to dive, and they were so accommodating in helping to arrange it for him. In the morning, there was about an hour’s waiting time as they had to get clearance with Sabah Park with our information. It’s understandable since it varies daily, so it’s always better to arrive early. They provided towels, coffee, tea, fruits, unlimited water, and a delicious lunch served with such care. On the boat, there were several assistants to help you get in and out of the water safely, which was such a thoughtful touch. This was hands-down the best snorkeling experience I’ve ever had. In other places, the boat usually drops you off, and you’re left to swim around on your own, searching for marine life and corals. But here, we had a guide named Ben, such a funny and friendly guy. He brought two floating rings for those who couldn’t swim and guided us around, pointing out all the amazing finds underwater. We had so much fun! By the third snorkeling session, we were all exhausted and sunburned, so be prepared if you’re not used to long days in the sun. They had sunscreen on, but we still ended up sunburned especially on our backsides while sitting on the boat (not sure how that even happened!). It was heartbreaking to see the amount of rubbish scattered around and boats deploying anchors on the coral. When the anchors were retrieved, they sometimes pulled up corals with them. I have no words to express how sad this was, and honestly, I don’t know how to stop it, it’s such a complex issue that feels overwhelming to address as someone from across the globe. That said, I would absolutely recommend this team to my friends. They were such a pleasure to deal with, and everything was so well-organized. Not to forget, we visited during the low season (January 24–25). It was raining when we arrived, but the sun eventually came out, and we were lucky to have bright, sunny weather. Of course, visibility might be even better during peak season. Thank you again for such a memorable experience!
So glad to have come across this company. They explained all the tours in detail and didn't push us to book them. They gave the best advice on which tours to take based on our schedule, weather, and preferences. Definitely recommend the Timba Timba - Mataking - Pom Pom island tour for both snorkeling and diving. Their GoPros are great for daily rental as it's great quality and provide extra battery. The team is easy going, responsive, and professional :) They speak good English as well.
Great company! My partner and I booked all our activities here, the stuff is amazing, super helpful and honest at all times. They have their own boats and from 4 pax you go with them and have an incredible experience! We swam with a lot of turtles!!
I loved my experience at blue reef! My friend & I signed up for an open water course here as it was much more affordable than the other diving schools. We booked their accommodation as well which is right above their office. The front desk staff were awesome and friendly. Our diving instructor (Jab) was amazing too and reassured us every step of the way when we were really nervous about the course. The crew (a diving assistant came along with us) brought watermelons, coffee onto the boat to enjoy during our rest times / end of the day trip back to semporna from mabul island. For accommodation, it is simple but very functional (better than a very nice hotel with lacking functionalities). Water pressure in the bathroom was strong, water heater worked perfectly and ammenities provided. Bathroom was clean too. The only downside is that the office / front gate closes early around 6/7pm so you need to go through a back gate which can be challenging, but we got used to it in the end so anyone should be able to as well!
I can now see why Semporna is so beautiful! Beautiful beautiful beautiful. From the view point on Bohey to the remote islands and the snorkeling. These locations are a must while in Semporna. I think Sibuan island is the most beautiful place I have ever seen. Trip ran on time and lunch was super tasty.
We booked snorkelling and diving day trips with them, and loved the experience. We requested for a female guide for diving, as I am a Muslim woman and they booked a private diving day trip with a female freelancer (she was so informative and helpful). They also helped arrange a beautiful cake and surprise with my husband for me (at an extra cost), as it was our honeymoon, and even helped us locate our hotel room card when we noticed it went missing. They also helped arrange transport last minute from Tawau airport to semporna and back at a good price! Many thanks to Jasmeen, Joy and the rest of the staff for making our first dive and snorkelling experience so amazing! The best to book with for beginners and advanced alike!
We did the snorkeling trip to Pom-Pom, Mataking and Timba-Timba. The whole trip seemed very disorganized and we had to wait a long time in the morning. The snorkeling was very nice and we saw lots of beautiful fish and corals. Unfortunately, underwater we also saw how our and other boats anchored directly in the coral reef and tore out a huge amount of corals. In other places, corals are laboriously cultivated and here they are pulled out with anchors. It is horrible to see that there is such a lack of awareness of the underwater life (especially at a diving school). The guides also simply accepted that other tourists took crabs in plastic bottles from the beach with them on the boat. Mataking and Timba-Timba are very dirty and crowded with day tourists who doesn‘t seem care. All in all, it was an experience, but rather a sad one.
We did two tours with Blue Reef and everything was perfect. The team was super professional, friendly and helpful. Great experience from start to finish. Highly recommended!
