This beach was an awesome way to relax in the ocean. You park by the hotel, grab your stuff, then walk down about 350 (!) steps to the beach. There’s a grassy area where you can set up at sun shade/relax on the grass as down at the beach it’s pretty rocky. At the beach area there was a restroom open but the shower room were locked - maybe cuz it was a weekday when we visited? Plus of it being a weekday was there were only 4 other people here so it was like we had a private beach. The water is crystal clear and the high salt content means it’s easy to tread water/float. You will need water shoes/sandals and it’d be nice to have snorkel gear or floaties to relax more in the water. But even without snorkel gear you will see fish swimming below you a bit. The water was pretty calm/flat here too. We spent a couple hours just relaxing and enjoying the water. This is one of the top 100 beaches in Japan and well worth the drive. If you want to stay longer you can camp here or book a room at the hotel here.

This location is beside the road to the gold mine, I dropped by after visiting the gold mine. It is a pretty cool spot with all the overgrown vegetation. It looks like Lapyuta the floating castle from the film made by Gibli studio. It was pretty hot in summer and there's a cafe near this attraction where you can have food after walking around. We were really impressed by this local history museum. We came here to see the large replica of a wooden cargo ship and were happily surprised to learn you also got to walk onto the ship and explore its decks and cargo holds. While all of the descriptions were in Japanese only, it was still easy to guess or use Google translate to learn more about the various aspects of ship building and shipping. We thought it was just the ship, but the staff directed us down a hallway to the old school building whose rooms store a plethora of everyday items from Sado residents. It was cool to see a replica classroom and the myriad items related to household use, agriculture, and fishing. The warehouses at the end of the hall are stacked to the ceilings and you can walk through the multi level platforms to see the items up close. Go out into the back garden and there’s another building just dedicated to shipping/fishing items. We spent close to an hour and a half just wandering through looking at everything. The items aren’t behind glass, so be sure to watch little kids to ensure they don’t try to pick up anything. :)

This building is so crammed full of history it's simply amazing. See the boat, it's very cool, but also check out the old schoolhouse filled with artifacts packed so tightly it feels like grandma's house.

The reconstructed sailboat is an incredible peace of craftmenship, but definitly don't skip the folk museum itself. Located in an old school and containing a massive variety of objects that used to belong to the villagers just strewn around the, it's incredibly charming.
