Hachijofuji Makino & Fureai Bokujo truly embodies the beautiful nature of Hachijojima. The expansive ranch offers breathtaking panoramic views that stretch endlessly across the ocean and the surrounding island. It's a remarkably peaceful and relaxing environment, a perfect escape from the ordinary. Watching the cows graze freely in such a picturesque setting is incredibly calming. The opportunity for interaction with the animals, including curious goats, adds a lovely, unique dimension to the visit, especially for kids. The fresh, refreshing air and the sheer scale of the landscape make it an ideal spot for a leisurely afternoon. It's a fantastic photo spot for capturing the vastness of the nature and the charm of the farm animals. This must-visit experience offers not just a view, but a profound connection to the island's serene beauty and agricultural life.
I climbed with my touring bike definitely only recommend that if you have decent low gear and general fitness though you could walk it up with the bike I suppose. Benefit of going up with bike is that you can go up, then down later via different route for variety. Nothing overly special about this farm though you can get pretty close to the cows and calfs if lucky. Decent sights of the area in good weather. I also used this as a visit spot to spend bit of time waiting for the clouds to clear (if you time well clouds can disappear during afternoon) I gave it 4 stars mainly because this is the last stop for toilet or drinks before the hike and crater loop so I assume most will get here on the way up.
nice view, street, airport and sea!
Great view, worth the trip! It seems that during the summer season they sell jersey milk's icecream.
Visited here by bike. It was so hard. Anyway you can see and touch some cows. You can eat very tasty ice cream but summer only. I couldn't eat because it's early spring.
Would be a lovely place with a fabulous view. But staff there is very inpolite. Just go there to have a look.
Really unique place to visit as it is a ranch halfway up a volcanic mountain. Awesone views & we were able to feed the cows. It was July but unfortunately they were not selling their Jersey ice cream and that was a bummer.
A place to visit before or after climbing Mt. Hachijo-Fuji. Nice for resting and taking cow pictures. You can also buy soft cream.

Beach with dark sand & shower facilities, popular for sea turtle sightings & snorkeling.
Slide 1 of 8
This beach is very safe, with lifeguards constantly on watch. Since it is located within a bay, even when the waves are rough in the open sea, it's still possible to swim in the bay. Sometimes the sun can be quite intense, and the lifeguards seem to work hard under the heat. Unlike other beaches, the bay has a sandy bottom, so there aren't many fish, but you can still spot plenty near the nearby rocks. This is one of the safest swimming areas on the island. Because of the sandy bottom, there’s no risk of injury from sharp marine life, and you can float freely on the water. The beach is equipped with showers and restrooms, making it very convenient.
Nice clean green emerald water, but can get dirty with plastics and other debris... Volcanic beach with black sands is tiny. Mountain view is nice. Parking and clean toilet and shower amenities are a nice add. Can be a good star viewing spot at night, although I found the stars to be not so shiny after all.
Sea turtles and sealife everywhere, just feet from the beach! Awesome place to snorkle. Not your usual beach though, there is not a lot of sand.
Great place to enjoy the beach and breeze.
It's wonderful black beach. So many people can enjoy swimming.
Good relaxing place, but the security is bit laking
(Translated by Google) Because it's made of volcanic rock, you can't expect blue water or white sand beaches, but it's no exaggeration to say that this is the only place to go for a day at the beach in Hachijo!!! You can see sea turtles and even take a dive, so it's a lot of fun! Be careful, as the water can get cloudy on windy or bad weather days.

Great place to walk around and see beautiful volcanic rock formation! The view is stunning! I recommend wear a hiking shoes since the rock is quite sharp and you might slip and fall. There is a parking spot and the place is free to enter.
It’s a nice place to spend some time relaxing. Parking is available. Public WC and cafes are located close to this spot.
Wild and quiet during the day, with stunning sunset at dusk.
Stone like Lava formation is a worth experiencing here in this island. A bit cliffs are there and very much windy. Overall the view is just mesmerizing.
The now stone-like lava plateau is one of the rarer sights I've seen. What power! My personal favorite place on this island.
Beautiful view warm wind.
(Translated by Google) I wanted to see the sunset, so I searched for this beach on the west side of the island and found it. The ground is made of lava rock, so it's quite difficult to walk on. I recommend sneakers or above. It's great because you can see an incredibly beautiful sunset. Hachijo Kojima is offshore, Hachijo Fuji is on land, and the occasional passing ferry all shines in the sunset. I had a truly luxurious time. If I have the opportunity to visit Hachijojima again, I'd definitely like to see the sunset here again.

A nice free botanical garden with very cute animals. You can feed them leaves. The animals was the highlight!
Hachijo Botanical Park is a truly beautiful and lush hidden gem on the island, offering a unique experience that's a must-visit for any nature lover. The botanical garden is incredibly well-maintained, with various paths winding through diverse tropical plants and trees, making for a wonderfully relaxing stroll. What truly sets this park apart, however, is the magical phenomenon of the glowing mushrooms. Seeing these bioluminescent fungi softly illuminate the darkness was an absolutely unforgettable and almost surreal experience. It adds an incredible layer of wonder to an already peaceful setting. During the day, the air is so refreshing, and the nature is vibrant. This park perfectly blends education with a sense of wonder, making it ideal for both leisurely walking and exploring. It’s an experience you won’t find just anywhere, especially with the chance to witness the natural glow. The glowing mushrooms make it feel like stepping into a fairy tale.
Would highly recommend. Very peaceful gardens where you can hear lots of birdsong and see a wide variety of plants and scenery. There is also an area fenced off with small dear, called "Kyon" in Japanese which is a nice place to sit and enjoy the surroundings. It's only a 20 minute walk from the airport and the visitors center is also well designed for children so I would recommend a good 2 hours to fully enjoy the park if you have the time.
Much bigger than expected and free! If you ask in the information center for English guides they have a few brochures. A must on Hachijo.
Good amount of ground to cover. Free parking. Most of the attractions were closed by the time we arrived (want to say 3 or 4 PM). The deer enclosure needs to be larger for the animals.
Small muntjac deer in an enclosure are very friendly. Small but beautiful fish tank in the visitor center with many local reef animals.
(Translated by Google) It's a modest tourist spot. I've been traveling to Hachijojima about once a year for about 30 years, but this was my first visit. I was satisfied to learn about the island's ecosystem and learn about things related to it. The Hachijojima Muntjac is also cute ❤ I learned about Hachijojima Muntjac from the old manga Gaki Deka! It was a much smaller deer than I had imagined. There was a stuffed specimen at the Pricia Resort Hotel, which went out of business a long time ago, but the living Muntjac was completely different from the image I had of it. If you're here, I recommend seeing the Muntjac of Hachijojima. The tropical botanical garden was also a good learning experience. The way bananas, vanilla, and other tropical foods grow, and the traveler's tree (Tabibitonoki) were spectacular. The glowing mushrooms at the visitor center can be seen in an instant if you close the curtains, so I think it's a good idea to see them. There are also large stuffed turtles on display. In fact, when you go fishing on Hachijojima, you sometimes have the chance to see large turtles. Especially when fishing at night, I have seen turtles with heads as big as humans. Just looking at the stuffed turtles is impressive. I would especially recommend this to people visiting Hachijojima for the first time.

Despite the free admission, the garden is expansive and well-explored, and I enjoyed it more than I expected. What particularly impressed me was the abundance and diversity of plants. Surrounded by the impressive trees and flowers unique to the tropics, it felt like I'd wandered into another world. The greenhouse area was particularly impressive, allowing me to see rare tropical plants up close, and it was full of learning and amazement. The garden is also dotted with little delights, such as a delicious gelato shop. When you feel a bit tired from exploring the garden, it's a delight to enjoy a cool, sweet gelato. There's also an area where you can observe glowing mushrooms at night, a fantastical sight unique to Hachijojima. The different charms of day and night are also fascinating. As a government-run facility, I had a slightly stuffy impression of it, but it was actually a relaxing and exciting tourist spot. In addition to the impressive plants, there is also a combination of gourmet food and unique exhibits, making it a place that can be enjoyed by a wide range of people, from children to adults. It is a recommended park that is definitely worth stopping by when visiting Hachijojima. Uramigataki Falls on Hachijojima is an absolute hidden gem and a truly unique experience. The path leading to the falls is surrounded by incredibly lush, green nature, making the short walk feel like an immersive journey into a tropical paradise. What makes this waterfall so special is the ability to actually walk behind it, offering a perspective you rarely find. The sound of the falling water is incredibly relaxing and instantly makes you feel peaceful. It's a beautiful spot that feels untouched, offering a perfect escape from the everyday hustle. I highly recommend taking your time to soak in the atmosphere. This experience truly highlights the raw nature of Hachijojima, providing a refreshing break and an unforgettable memory. I think this is a rare waterfall among waterfalls where you can walk through the backside of the waterfall while feeling the pleasant coolness of the water spray. After passing the waterfall, you can see ``Heart Rock'', a heart-shaped rock that fell from the mountain on a day of heavy rain. There are no shops or anything, but there is greenery even in the crater, so beautiful is probably the best word to describe it. It doesn't require much physical strength either. The ranch on the slope along the way is beautiful, and the cows are adorable. Whether you're halfway up or on top of the mountain, it all contributes to the beautiful scenery☺️ (Original)

Absolutely one of my favorite places in Japan. The cheapest way to reach Hachijo Island from Tokyo is by ferry. This island is so beautiful, there are many activities to do, hiking, hot springs, swimming, scuba diving and snorkeling etc… I recommend to do the BUSPA, for 1000¥ you have unlimited bus rides and onsen for 2 days. Also you must climb Hachijo-fuji with its stunning views.
It was very windy there when I visited the Island last year after my 2nd attempt because the Airplane could not land due to strong winds. Clean-fresh air, good people, enjoyable stay. Was so busy that I forgot to mention it here 😜, in 3 days I’ll be visiting Tokyo Izu Oshima Island by Speed-Boat this time. 👍♥️
Very unique experience, would recommend a visit. 45 minute flight from Haneda Airport. Snorkeling is a must do! Not very English friendly as it is more rural but we got through our trip with google translate. Lodging was booked through hotels.com & rental car was arranged at airport. People are very friendly. Was a tad expensive for the few days we were there.
I am here to see this Island as one of my favourite creators @Rachitroo visited this island a few days ago.
Easiest way to get around is by car, so if you can I'd highly suggest renting a car. If driving is not an option rental bicycle is another great alternative. Coming by ferry is quite the experience, perfect for the weekend (a few days) trip. Some restaurants might not have an English menu so might be worth checking out online before-hand if you speak 0 Japanese. Overall, lovely people, great harmonious places and awesome hot springs!
Great island off of Philippine Sea. The sceneries are breathtaking. So, relaxing. People are so friendly. Delicious and always fresh foods. The best sunrise and sunset I've ever seen in my life.

Beautiful viewpoint overlooking the west side of the island! There is a parking spot and you can cross the street to see the amazing view! No need to buy ticket at all. It is free access. They said the view during sunset is amazing but too bad it was cloudy during our visit! Will want to come back to see sunset view! Please be careful when crossing the street since the car drives pretty fast around that area.
Worth a quick stop to enjoy the view of Hachijo-kojima island and Hachijo Fuji. There's a nearby toilet in the parking area, just be careful when passing the road to the sightseeing point.
Amazing view overlooking the bridge of Hachijo round road and Hachijo-kojima island. I dropped off for a moment before going to the airport but the view is great and definetely worth visiting especially for sunset. People say there is a parking lot, however, I could not find it and parked on the street. Public restroom is neaby.
Becareful of the incomming traffic. There is a very nice view during sunset.
Worth stopping at sunset if your driving through
Marvelous sight. Definitely worth a stop. There is a newly opened WC near the parking spot.
it's easier to up there with car or walking with a bike is quite scary and difficult
It's on the side of the road, but provides amazing sunset views.

The place is a bit far but definitely worth a visit. The best natural ocean swimming pool I have experienced plus there is a man made swimming pool on the other side. Shower and changing room available next to the parking lot. Either it's rainy day or sunny to sunset moment, this place just beautiful as it is.
Lot of turtles and fishes to see ! It sa good place for snorkeling
Nice for light snorkeling. It was part of a road trip with my friends, and made some nice memories.

(Translated by Google) There are also tide pools and swimming pools in the rocky sea. Tide pools are artificially separated from the sea, and there is a small hole in the pool, and when the waves are high, the waves can get in a little beyond the partition. Even when there are whitecaps, tide pools are calm and safe with no waves. I thought it was an artificially divided sea, but when I entered it I was surprised. Perhaps because it is connected to the ocean and difficult for large fish to enter, it is like a paradise for small fish, and there are many brightly colored small fish. Moreover, the transparency is very high. Unlike the bottom soil, there are no sea turtles or large fish, but there are far more small fish than in the bottom soil. It's so beautiful. Since we visited at the end of September, the pool had no water. Even though it was Saturday, the tide pool was almost reserved, the water wasn't cold, and the showers and changing rooms were available for private use, which was great. (Translated by Google) Visited in August 2024. There is a pool filled with seawater, a rocky beach, and a tidal seawater pool. There are fresh water showers, changing rooms and toilets. The seawater pool is 1.2m deep and is made of concrete, so you don't have to worry about waves or jellyfish. Marine shoes are not allowed, so you will need to take them off. Due to high waves at the beach, swimming is prohibited on that day. Even in that state, the seawater pool in the tidal pool is extremely calm. Transparency allows you to observe brightly colored fish just by bringing your face close to the sea surface. You'll regret it if you don't bring a snorkel. The water temperature is also quite high as it is heated by the sun. It's a rocky area, so it's a good idea to wear marine shoes, and the water can get deep quickly if you're not careful, so keep an eye on children. Parking is free, but please note that spaces are limited. The road is quite narrow along the way, and it is unclear where you can park if it is full. Of course there are no shops, but there are no vending machines in sight, so you will need to prepare your food and drinks in advance. However, the floor of the dressing table is rotten, so you need to be careful ⚠️. It's also said that if the weather is good, it's possible to see Aogashima, but we arrived at 5:50 PM. As you can see, there was no view of the horizon. So... Nago Observation Deck, about 100 meters further back from here, shows a temporary closure on the map. There's a rope strung across the path leading to the observation deck. Perhaps it's a landslide or something? It's dangerous, so we turn back. The rest house is also locked and inaccessible. I peered inside, but it was empty, with only a table. They probably don't serve food or drinks there anymore. As I was heading back to my car, I happened to look around and noticed a stone monument. It was a memorial to the 16th Shin'yo Special Attack Unit. Shin'yo was a suicide weapon developed by the Imperial Japanese Navy at the end of the Pacific War. The boats were made of plywood, approximately 5m long and 1.7m wide, and were equipped with a 250kg bomb mounted on the bow, designed to crash into enemy ships. At the bottom of this stone monument is a plaque detailing the history of the 16th Shin'yo Special Attack Unit, and at the top is a stone slab engraved with the calligraphy of politician Abe Shintaro. Why is Abe Shintaro at this memorial for the kamikaze units? After researching, I found out that Abe joined the navy as a reserve student while attending Tokyo Imperial University. He was assigned to the kamikaze units, but the war ended before they could be deployed. He then became a politician who supported the turbulent postwar era. I feel like I've gotten a glimpse into the core of his political philosophy; my hands are in peace.
