We enjoyed it greatly. Lots of historical artifacts from the history of the museum and the town of St. Joseph of course. If I recall correctly there was 3 flrs to the museum area. There was an elevator but not sure if it was in service as we walked up the staircase which there are two. Plenty of history information of famous visitors to the hotel, and displays of early communication, travel, crime & services in Joseph, Mo.. really nice and very inexpensive. There's even a train in the building and a carousel you can ride. I rode the Go-rilla on it, the wife road the shark I belive and the 17yr old grandkid rode the Pegasus.
The Patee House Museum and old Pony Express Office is one of the finest old west museums we have ever visited. This place is huge and packed full of great items. The building is the Old Patee House Hotel and the third floor is retained as the original rooms. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the exhibits are just great.
I loved this museum! It reminds me of the Smithsonian American history museum in Washington D.C. So many excellent displays and artefacts. Their was a huge train engine, a replica stagecoach, Pony Express office, antique fire trucks and cars, little historic shops, antique toys, telephones, antique tools, etc. You can't really see the museum in just one visit. There were only a few people when I visited that day, which surprised me given the low price of admission and historic treasures here. I will return to see more!
Self-guided tour so you can go at your own pace. Ample information placards that explain what is being seen and why it's significant. Great variety of displays. This is an amazing and well curated museum.
I truly enjoyed this museum. It’s very well done and feels interactive with the little town setting where you can see the historic pieces built into a scene from the past. The history behind the building is really neat but they also lean into St. Joseph’s history as well, which is very impressive. It also seems like it would be fun for older kids or even younger kids, especially if the carousel is in operation.
We happened across the Patee House Museum when in town and loved it... this place is amazing and so much fun... The carousel is antique and hand carved... and it is still in running order... offering rides... Rhe first floor is amazing offering many antique items from the period... there was so much to see we did not finish the first floor... Since there is a second and third floor full which I understand are amazing as well we will definitely be back next time we are in the area...
Awesome museum! Nice train and cute carousel. And three floors of displays inside an epic hotel!
Wonderful historical museum! Affordable entrance fee and many exhibits to read about and explore.

Amazing museum. They have awesome first hand accounts from the riders which was one of my favorite things. The movie is cool too. I loved trying out the saddles and Machias. The well was cool too. Kid would love doing the souvenir penny, the kids room, and the rubbing. The Stamps are cool too!
The Pony Express National Museum is a hidden treasure that brings one of the most legendary chapters of American history to life. From the moment you step inside, you're transported back to 1860, when brave young riders risked everything to deliver the mail across the frontier. The exhibits are immersive, well-designed, and packed with fascinating artifacts and stories. You get a real sense of the grit, danger, and determination it took to ride for the Pony Express. The museum does a wonderful job blending education and entertainment—it’s perfect for both adults and kids. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the history they’re preserving. Whether you're a history buff, a fan of the Old West, or just looking for something unique to explore, this museum is well worth the visit. Don’t miss it when you’re in St. Joseph!
The Pony Express National Museum is a really fine collection of memorabilia from the brief life of the Pony Express and inside the original building where it was operated. This is a great collection and the museum is run by knowledgeable and helpful people. There was far more here than we expected and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
Cute little museum! A little expensive for how small it is, but the kids play space was wonderful! My kids ages 1 to 13 all had fun and played for about half an hour. Some very nice information and visuals, plus great interactive displays for kids and adults. Plus, there's a nice little playground right across the street.
Great place to learn about how our country grew and met the communication needs of those who were moving west. Buckling Station is in Weeks Nevada...a town that is so small the name is on both sides of the same sign 😀
A really cool museum on the history of the Pony Express! We didn't originally have this on our itinerary but decided to stop when we had some time to fill and I'm so glad we did. The museum is packed with info using unique and interactive exhibits. There is a fun scavenger hunt game for the kids and a really cool children's area. Don't pass up this museum if you're in St. Joe!
Great small single purpose museum. Guided tours provide plenty of information.
How the WEST was won, communication. Before the telegraph spanned the continent there was the 10 day Letter maIl system from St. Joe, MO to Sacramento CA. Young men 14-20 rode horses to carry the mail at a price much higher than we pay for post today

A friend recommended Glore Psychiatric Museum to us while we were down in Atchison. What a fantastic museum. I was intrigued the minute we walked in. The video at the beginning was so informative and seeing all the different types of mental health therapy in the past was, well, shocking! We were on a time crunch so we went through it a little fast but I will definitely visit again at a slower pace to take it all in.
So my school offers us to go for extra credit, I had no idea this was a place until my school told me about it. Let me tell you the guided tour was amazing! You learn so much about mental health and how far we have come. I brought my kiddos and they are decently little, they were entertained and kept busy with all the tings to look at and do. They incorporate new age with old age and it is very much so well worth the go. They also have an optical illusion bathroom that you need to make a pit stop at! The wall will get ya!
Amazing place with an equal amount of incredible history! Very impressive collection of photos and personal stories that make up the storied history and brutal nature of lunatic asylums. The displays are fantastic along with very vivid descriptions of what each piece of equipment was utilized for. A must see if you're in St Joe! Also included is the native American exhibit and black archives which are equally interesting and filled with amazing history.
The Museum had a lot of information on outdated practices and where some research stemmed from. The basement where the morgue was, definitely freezing. There was a lot to look at.
So this is a little different. Recently I visited the Glore Psychiatric Museum during a class trip; the institution was beautiful. Our tutor guide, Sarah was very knowledgeable in her studies around the entire building and beyond the surrounding areas. Highly recommended coming here if bored in ST Joseph Missouri this place will really put into perspective why the rest of the state calls this city their ghost town of the state. For how cramped this place was everywhere I looked there was something new to be studied as I stared in awe of these magnificent exhibits.
You'll see much more here than the history of psychiatric treatment. There are exhibits of Native Americans and black history. They also have many random exhibits. It's a cool place to spend a few hours.
Very interesting exhibits. There are more than just psychiatric exhibits. There are black and American Indian heritage exhibits from the St. Joe are. It was all very interesting to read about and see!
I've been wanting to visit for years and we finally got around this weekend and it was worth it. The exhibits were visually appealing and informative. I want to go back for the ghost hunt on Halloween. The tour is self lead so you can go at your own pace.

The Jesse James Home Museum is the original home where Jesse James lived with his family and where he was murdered. The home was moved from another spot in Saint Joseph to here to preserve it. The museum is loaded with personal effects and the gentleman in charge is super interested and informative. A really interesting experience.
I really enjoyed my visit to the Jesse James house and museum in St Joseph. The volunteer was very informative and the displays and arterfacts were outstanding. The original site of the home is located several blocks away. It is located at 1318 Lafayette street and I have included a photo of the site.
This is a great museum ! There are lots of great artifacts & and it's just really cool to be standing in this house! If you're a fan of history, Wild West & Jesee James! You'll love this museum & a great price of $5! Also the staff was very knowledgeable & friendly!
It was like being in a spaceship and going back in time. We loved it. Saint Joseph is full of history.
Old and creepy museum but very interesting, only 5 dollars to in, and 2nd museum hidden behind 🥰🇺🇸
Well worth the time and money. So much history in a very small house. But, it goes well beyond just the James family and has displays of his body being exhumed to check DNA. It is him in the grave. A history of his family and especially his mother.
If you love the old west, this is a must visit! As this is the famous outlaw Jesse James actual home, where he was shot, and killed! The location of his home doesn't sit in it's original place. But still a very exciting place to visit! Well, if you're an old west nut like myself, it's very exciting.
From the second you walk up, your pumped up to go inside. Though its very small. Its big enough to tell the story. You get a voice over tutorial of what happened in the house so long ago. Tons of parking and east access. The hole in the wall were Jesse James was shot and a replica of his skull is a very cool but eerie thing to see. Kid friendly and cost is 4.00 a person to go through the house. Well worth every penny. Highly recommend a visit.

Really nice place to go for a hike or picnic. Beautiful views. A must stop during Christmas time for not only the awesome lights but really good funnel cakes too.
I met my biological dad at this park this week!! He definitely knows the most beautiful places in St Joseph.
Found quite spot to have picnic. Trash was visible restrooms out of order motorcycles loud. Loud music from passing cars. Extremely loud.park was small. But worked for what I needed. Spend time in shade. Eat read do budget. Plot next course.
Beautiful park, definitely worth visiting! Excellent place to take pictures, to go fishing with the kids, to get some hiking or biking in, to drive around and relax, or to have a picnic. The castle is super cool, driving underneath it was an awesome surprise! The steps are not super steep, so its a good place to walk around if you have bad knees.
Kruger is a great Park for walking, driving, riding bikes motorcycles. Fishing , picnics, events. There are covered areas. This time of year for free you can drive trough the park and see the great christmas light displays its awesome.
Beautiful, unique park. Our family stopped here on our way through to SD. We enjoyed exploring the ruins and structures and walking up to the waterfall. The bathrooms are basic but they were clean. The pavilion and playground both looked nice, too. Highly recommend for spending a few hours or for a quick stop.
Nice place to fish and also do parties.
One of the most beautiful parks I've ever been to. Huge and varied, with history going back to the 1920’s. It has seen better days, and the children's playground equipment has been taken down (probably because it was 30 feet tall in some places, and completely made out of rusting metal) which is a shame because when I was a kid, it was the most fun someone could have in a playground. Despite that it's still an almost ethereal experience, and you can see the past in its bones. Hopefully this park will continue to be here for generations to come.

This place is phenomenal! It was one of those super random stops that my sister and I had made when we were waiting for our Airbnb to open. We had no idea what to expect, no idea what in the world we were getting into.... Seriously, I highly recommend this place. I realistically wish I had taken more pictures. It was so much fun. I had no idea that all the stuff we saw was going to be packed into such a building!! Of course they have taxidermy, as well as a few living animals. But they also have a ton of interactive places where you can press a button and hear the wildlife associated with whatever animal you just saw. Animal bones, gigantic fish tank. HOWEVER!!! My favorite part out of all of it, as soon as we walked in, the people at the service desk let us know that there was a scavenger hunt. You had to find 12 stickers of a turkey vulture. Not only that! The lady told me that they change up the game every single month!!!! And there are prizes! As we walked through the building, checking out everything that we possibly could, there was also a cave entrance, of course it was man-made, however, it showed life through history. Also with interactive buttons, where you could hear what it might have been like! They had wax figures, and various settings of what it would be like for cavemen, and the first folks for pioneer age. If I lived in this town, you better believe I would be here every single month!!!
Nice little spot to learn about history down by the Missouri River. I've been to several museums like this one and like those spots better.
Was a really cool place to go through. Wheelchair friendly, definitely a kid friendly place. Many selfie places as well as lots of pictures to take. We spent a lil over an hour in there. Staff was super nice. A beautiful scenery, the river is litterly right outside, and has walking trail to walk.
This place is truly one of the best gems in Saint Joseph. We have been bringing my daughter here once a month for nearly three years and it never gets old. The location is right next to the Missouri River and has a gorgeous view. There is a lovely little porch with chairs and picnic tables. The center provides binoculars and books to help identify local birds. My daughter loves the huge fish tank display of native fish. She also enjoys the tortoises and the snakes in the Snake Room. They are almost always having a scavenger hunt for the kids with prizes. Personally, I enjoy browsing the reading material in the little store and have bought several books. There is a very detailed exhibit on the history of Saint Joseph which is really interesting. It includes details that I have not read about anywhere else. So if you enjoy history, you should definitely pay this place a visit.
I visited on free museum day in Sept 2023. I had never heard of this place, but it is a gem! It is an incredibly kid friendly place. All the displays are at kid eye level, easy to read the plaques, and very interactive. There are taxidermy creatures from within the area, facts about Missouri statehood symbols (who knew we have a state horse) and a walk through Saint Joseph from all eras. It was really really cool! I also loved the reptile & axotle room (and like any true Millennial, I tried to speak parsletongue to the snakes.) Great lil gift shop and a beautiful view of the Missouri River. I saw so many families enjoying themselves today and it makes me incredibly happy ❤️
Another fantastic place for kids! They have a scavenger hunt, with little "prizes" for finding everything. They will give hints if you're having trouble finding some items. The exhibits have detailed info on everything. It took us about 2 hours to go through, mainly because the kids were doing the scavenger hunt. There's also a nature trail, but it was way too hot for us today (high 90's F). The center is situated beside the Missouri River. Plenty of parking, & the casino is across the street.
We stumbled across this great outdoor space while driving to Kansas City … if you have pets or children … or need any excuse to get out and stretch, this is a beautiful alternative to the run of the mill rest stop. The public bathrooms are port a potties, but very clean.
Great nature center. Riverwalk is absolutely amazing at sunset

Absolutely love this place! The building itself has gorgeous architectural features. See a show here- you won’t regret it. The Roubidoux Resident Theater puts on fantastic productions.
I'm 6'4" tall and I know that the building was built in 1927 and looks great, the seats are really close for me. When I sat I had to be careful not to hit the lady in front of me with my knee. Not a complaint just letting you know. Great place bathroom was nice and clean. Seats were comfortable to sit on. People were kind and friendly to help us find our seats.
I used to go to this theater when I was a young girl and black and could only sit in the balcony. It was so powerful to see the theater still stands in all its glory and I was able to sit up front second row center. Went to see the play Walk on Water it was very good experience about slavery in Missouri. The place is well kept.
What a beautifully interesting place. EnJOYed WetheKingdom here. Old, charming, intimate, & nicely kept theater in downtown St Joe. Bathrooms seem newly renovated. Ushers and such were warmly welcoming. Definitely recommend taking in a show here.
You will be amazed at how beautiful this theater is.... The additional modern restrooms were a pleasant surprise. If you get a chance see some event here. We have been three time and are always amazed at it's beauty and history
The theater is still beautiful. We were in the upper part of the theater, the bad part was that a video screen hung down and most of the video was blocked by it. 🫩
1st time at the theater. A neat old venue with comfortable seats. Smaller than I anticipated which provided great stage views. Sound system was very good. Restrooms were very nice. I hope to return for another event.
Great theatre from almost a century ago... Attended as part of the "audience " for a film shoot. 2027 will bring this theater's Centenary. I really hope it is still in use by then.

Loved it. I had $80 to bet but decided to not risk my $80. However my brother told me we're wouldn't leave until I bet the whole $80. I put all my money in a slot machine at entrance and ended up winning $300. I was pretty happy.
The casino in St. Joseph is a decent stop if you’re passing through. The floor has a good variety of slots and table games, and the staff keeps things friendly and professional. It’s not the biggest casino out there, but it’s kept clean and well run. Food and drinks are solid, and the atmosphere is laid back enough to enjoy yourself without feeling overcrowded. A good place to unwind for a bit if you’re in town.
Don't complain about this place or they'll take you upstairs into a small office, and not let you leave after asking them several times if you're "free to go" . Then they tell you "you're not detained", but if you walk out of the office you'll be arrested for trespassing in the hallway. What a joke. Way to violate someones civil rights St JOE Frontier Casino and your hired thugs, Missouri State Police...
So, you walk in, and get ID’d, ok. They ask you of you “want a wristband”? The wristband verifies you're “of age” to be inside the gambling zone and noone else of staff should need to bother you for your ID because youve been verified already, right? Ok, so my friend and I sit down at the 1 of 2 blackjack tables they have and they instantly want to check her ID…. (yeah she is young and looks young, yet she IS 21 AND HAD HER ID CHECKED AT THE DOOR, and GIVEN A WRISTBAND. Sweet! Right? No, security and the GM come over and say “hey, we cant let her play bc theres a crack in her ID, and if we have to pay her out, we have to submit her ID and the state wont accept that”…… i said, “ok, but weve also already gotten drinks from the bar”…… (so, she has the wristband, got a drink from the bar, sat down at the table and exchanged $100 for chips already) the response was, “well the bar is ‘separate’ so thats different from the tables’”……. OK, so we go to the bar, get ANOTHER drink, i put another $100 bill in the bar games and we are appproached by security again telling us “yeah we looked further into it and yall gotta leave the premises”………. TELL ME HOW THAT WORKS. YOU CREATED A SYSTEM THAT IS FAILING YOU… The security that gave us the wristbands initially at the front didnt even know what was happening when we were walking out, so that tells me the security/GM didnt even tell him he was messing up, they literally just didnt like us and kicked us out. The place obviously hires people with little to no experience and will never succeed with this type of hospitality or whatever they wannna call it. Ive never been somewhere where the problem was created by the staff, the customers complies and then theyre kicked out. Tell me how that works. NEVER GOING BACK AND ILL TELL EVERYONE I EVER MEEET THAT THIS PLACE IS A JOKE OF A BUSINESS. St Joe, you can do so much better, GOOD GOD
Went to the “Better than ever buffet” on Friday night around 7 pm. As soon as you walk in the smell of cigarettes is overwhelming. The food was not good. My party of three struggled to find anything worth writing about. The staff was not friendly, choices were very few at the entire buffet. Salad bar was gross, the sweet tea was good. Will not return or recommend.
We decided to drive to St Joe to try the buffet, nothing on website about menu other than there's American, Chinese, Italian etc, and on Fridays and Saturdays. Arrived to see that is was seafood night which my husband does not like. He said surely I will find something...well....his option was popcorn chicken...which we could of gotten from KFC for way less then $30 a person. This buffet is way over priced, the food was absolutely disgusting and I love seafood. I did try the variety, but we paid $30 for my husband to eat 2 plates of mashed potatoes, some carrots and mixed vegetables. That's ridiculous!!!! I will not be referring anyone to this casino. Very disappointed 😞
I honestly do not know how anyone hits at this casino? Spare yourself if you are not from around this area. Trust me when I say this is one of not the worst experiences you will have. I know just like any casino some people can win but many, many, many do not. You might as well burn your money as soon as you walk in the door. It’s not fun, you do not get the sense that you even have a chance to keep playing or win. There are much better casinos elsewhere. Go to Kansas. It’s a drive but it’s so much better than this. OMG it’s horrible, and it’s horrible every single time you go. If you want to just put your money in without a chance in hell of actually hitting anything. Go here it’s fabulous if that’s your thing. Or if you want to bet $7.50 and when $20 (maybe) on a bonus. Please stop by!
We generally stop here 2 or 3 times a month and previous experiences have been fine. And actually playing blackjack was nice, friendly dealers, and had alit of fun. However, we stopped late Tuesday night arrived at 1:30. As we approached the door security comes and starts locking the doors. Hours are stated to 10-2 AM. HE SAW US, and just locked the doors, smirking. I called and was told they can’t let anybody in after 1:30 because they close at 2. Whaat a way to run business, and they was rude!

We enjoyed the Pony Express Memorial in the town where the express originated. The emotions in the face of the rider and the stress in the muscles of the horses are very telling. There are also several plaques at the site which give a lot of historical information.
Beautiful statue! Looks like it's racing, sitting still!!!
Either park at the St. Joseph Visitors Center or at Taco Bell. Watch out for traffic! Monument is located on an island between three cross streets.
Such a beautiful Monument and amazing historical presence just being there !!! Can't believe these men risks it all for adventures and the greater good. What and amazing story !!!
I used to live in St. Joesph, Missouri. Would love to go back and live there again. Loved it. Most beautiful place and the history is amazing. Make this place one of your visiting list.

The Walter Cronkite memorial was very cool I didn't know they had such a thing. Being that I live 4 hours away it's going to be kind of hard to have the rest of my children see what I saw. I hope the pictures do justice for everybody that sees this post.
Passing through and took a break checking out this free admission museum for an American icon who reported on a number of historic moments in the 20th century from WW 2 in Europe where he was attached to 101st Airborne. I enjoyed the display where you could watch his broadcast on a number of events followed by his recollections during later interviews (JFK and John Lennon assignations, Vietnam and Tet ‘68 coverage) Nice display of his awards and Emmys and desk from the CBS studios.
Very interesting ! Loved listening to him back in the day.
Beautiful display of a wonderful career for this locally born newscaster. Worth a stop-in when you are near Mo West...no charge.
I was surprised at how good the exhibit was the first time I saw it. Even if you are too young to remember what a great broadcaster he was, the videos and displays are fascinating and give an interesting overview of history. I loved the reproduction of the original broadcast booth, where you can have your picture taken sitting at the desk, and the actual television camera from CBS. It is free and worth a visit.
No admission fee. We enjoyed the timeline of photos, plus the many video clips about Walter's work and family. The mock newsroom with the TV camera "selfie" was fun.
Worth a visit for sure. Free admission.
It was tough to figure out where the memorial was because tall trees covered up the signs. When you pull onto the campus it will be right in front of you! Turn into the parking lot on your left and walk across the street to the building. Inside is a very nice tribute to him with lots of pictures and some videos. Plan to stay close to an hour. I think I counted 9 of his 11 Emmys there. You can tell that not only the news was important to him but he was very dedicated to his family ad well.

This is an impressive museum! The artwork is phenomenal. They have a small Dega that is not to be missed. I love the contemporary feel and the modern artwork. The artwork by local students was very impressive.
Great little Art Museum. We spent about an hour in here. I would recommend a visit of you are in the St. Joseph area.
This small art museum has just enough to wet ones appetite to see more. In the gift shop area they have a few area artists work for sale. A revolving collection as well. Beautiful old home enlarged to accommodate more beautiful pieces. Welcoming environment.
The art museum isn't to big, but it does have some really interesting artwork! Once you walk in the left hand side of the building is a permanent exhibit, the right hand side is a temporary exhibit which currently features two artists out of Kansas City, and the downstairs is all highschool artwork from the surrounding communities. The price to get in for adults were $5 a piece and we were there for roughly 45 minutes. Even then if you truly take your time, you could spend about an hour or two here. Definitely check the art museum out and the workers are super friendly!
My daughter won in her category for a regional high school art competition/exhibit held here. This was our 1st visit but will return. An abundant amount of art. Very helpful, courteous staff as well.
Such a gem in St. Joe, the library has been my favorite since a child. It's a must see if you're in town.
It was a lovely experience visiting the museum. I was there for Peregrine Honig's exhibition and viewing of Summer in Hindsight.
Lovely Art Museum This visit was for Senior Prom pictures. The staff was very accommodating

The oldest cemetery in Saint Joseph is full of history. There are many gravesites and family plots throughout, mausoleums that are varied and interesting to see, family names of passers through Saint Joseph on the Westward Expansion and family names of residents from history to present day are all buried here. Lovely carvings and headstones set amongst established trees and green grass make this a restful setting for those who wish to see the sights and for families who are looking for historic locations to visit. Graves are well tended and kept clean of debris, overgrown weeds and underground pests like gophers and moles.
Get away from the beautiful mausoleums near the entrance and the place is mostly a wreck. The Association that maintains this cemetery is a not for profit org and in 2023 they spent over $22,000 on "Lawn Care & Repairs" according to the causeiq website. The grass is very long in places, but I'm mostly frustrated by the number of markers that should be upright but aren't. In a couple of spots it looks like a bomb went off. I'm attaching photos of this clustermess. Doesn't look like that money was very well spent.
Wow, just wow!! I love cemeteries and saw this one was listed as a must see when in St Joseph. The mausoleums are so beautiful. Any direction you look are gorgeous examples of the unique monument styles of their day. One area resembled a chess board with all the tall ornate stones. A very peaceful place to visit.
Beautiful mausoleums, beautiful ecosystem of animals especially a plethora of red squirrels and it's very well maintained. Never reviewed a cemetery but this place is outstandingly beautiful.
What an amazing discovery! I am a cemetery tourist of many years and I always get a little chill when I find a place so beautiful, restful, historic and well taken care of. As I entered through the welcoming gate, I saw a sign that read "Masoleum Row." I haven't see anything so grand since I left SoCal! I imagine that these amazing mini stone mansions belong to the former owners of the majestic homes on Hill Street. The art, carving and even epitaphs were lovely and it should be a great place to take a afternoon stroll. These gorgeous grounds could hold their own with the smaller cemeteries in SoCal or Louisiana. A++++
Came here to help contribute to FindAGrave.com. There's a ton of really beautiful monuments dating back to the 1800s, as far as I have seen. As with any cemetery, you will find some of the older headstones hard to read or even partially covered by dirt and grass, so you may need to keep an eye out. I have only been to a couple cemeteries, but nothing of this size. Their website is really helpful if you are looking for the section the grave is in. I've actually not been able to find any of the headstones I've looked for from Find a Grave, but that could be on me.
Beautiful mausoleums and interesting history throughout the cemetery. The far west side though (which I'm guessing was probably where it started) is not taken very well care of. Which is a shame because the headstones go back to 1800s
Beautiful trees. Historical cemetery with lots of character. Grounds need some attention. Over grown areas and headstones.

Visited here for professional development and played a really fun murder mystery game, I recommend. Nice place to visit if you're interested in the history of Saint Joe and "Million Dollar Row" here in town.
The host was very friendly and knowledgeable. We enjoyed our visit very much. There is so much history in St Joseph that can still be experienced. We would love to tour the whole neighborhood but only had time to rush through the mansion.
What a perfect venue this was for our wedding. Gorgeous, Jared and Max were such a big help! It was nice having it at a museum. Everyone really enjoyed it. When we found out it is haunted that made it even better. Even if you don’t book it for your next venue definitely go check it out!
Wonderful museum in St Joseph!
Very affordable ($13) walking tour through history. Great collection and renovation work. Also includes educational displays from local floods. Ticket gets you into 5 museums.
Visited today this amazing Mansion turned Museum! Lots of beautiful architecture inside and out! Loved the friendly staff always to assist in our questions today.
If you are near St. Joseph, MO the mansion and the historic area surrounding it are well worth a stop. Be aware if you want to tour inside the Wyeth Tootie, it is only open on Friday and Saturdays.
Very cool place to visit especially the geography/ topography map and sand showing the erosion impact.

My son and I took an evening jog through downtown and decided to hit the river walk. It's was so beautiful, we caught the sunset at the perfect time. The trail was clear and open. The walks grass was lush, trimmed and full of wild rabbits of all sizes. It sure is nice to get back outside...
I'd probably avoid this place. Definitely a sketchy unsafe area. Dirty diapers, trash, graffiti, and suspicious folks around the area walking around the train tracks. The nearby area is run down and definitely not in its prime anymore. It was probably a nice place but it hasn't been taken care of in years.
This a 2.25 mile flat wide paved path north from The Landing in St Joe to Heritage ballpark for no motorized use. The path winds along the Missouri River past the Remington Nature Center and Riverboat Casino. So about 4 to 4.5 miles to travel for a round trip. It would better if there was a public restroom someplace. Parts are being regraded right now, but it doesn't affect the path. There is a thin layer of silt over the path in places from flooding, but it does not affect cycling or walking.
Barren-no facilities on South end entrance. Places to picnic but not BBQ.
We were staying at the St Jo Frontier Casino and walked this trail early one morning. The trail is concrete and about 6 feet wide. It can easily accommodate 2 people abreast and allow for bikes or runners to pass. It’s a really lovely place right alongside the Missouri River. We walked from the casino toward the nature center then south. We ended right under the double decker highway, about 1 1/2 miles. There is graffiti all over the small amphitheater under that highway and trash everywhere. The trail itself is very nice, but there is trash along the way and all signs are overgrown with weeds. There was a monument on the side that was so covered in weeds, we were unable to read it. Several picnic areas were also completely obscured by weeds. The grass is cut, but weeds are left around all structures. There was trash strewn around the wooden river overlook that looked more than several days old. Unfortunately this beautiful area has not been maintained well and reflects badly on this town.
Lovely scenic area with nice paths to walk and river access.
Walk and hammock here often and it’s very peaceful! Never too busy and the nature center is right there next to the trail / river!
Been down to the river walk a handful of times. I cant complain about my visits. It was always clean. The specific days and time I went - the view and the weather was beautiful. And actually today I interacted with the city crew cleaning out the few homeless people camps that were there on behalf of a homeless friend that lived there. They were polite and allowed my friend to grab what he could/wanted. Ive had nothing but pleasant memories there. Handful of times in the past were with my love and 2 kids out for a family walk just enjoying the view and the weather.

If you're debating on whether you should spring for a stay at this place or settle for an AirBNB or hotel, I'll make up your mind for you: You're staying here. Trust me. This place is a jaw-dropper inside and out. The price is quite reasonable, too, for such an extraordinary stay. So do not hesitate. Click "Book" and feel good about your choice. My wife and I stayed in the Verona room for our anniversary, and we loved everything about this place. The stained-glass windows. The abundance of cherry wood. The owner, Isabel, who has lavished this place with love to restore it—believe me, it shows. We found the Shakespeare Chateau Inn Bed & Breakfast to be so romantic, comfortable, and charming. If you want to surprise your spouse with a weekend getaway, you'd be wise to pick this place for the occasion! Did I mention it's quiet, too? You will never hear the stampede of a hundred hotel guests here. No, you will find your sanity restored here if you need a bit of healing calm. We only ate breakfast here, but it was a treat: an egg-and-ham-based treat the owner named "The Hamlet" for consistency with the Shakespearean theme. It was delish, and the name made us laugh!
The Shakespeare Chateau is an amazing bed and breakfast. It is a restored mansion with 47 beautiful stained glass windows. Our room, The Romeo and Juliette Suite, was amazing, with a jacuzzi. The owner, Isobel, has lovingly restored this mansion and the rich wood details are beautiful. Breakfast was delicious and served in a beautiful dining room where you can just image people dining 140 years ago in splendor. Isobel is a wealth of knowledge about the area. You won't regret this choice!
What a remarkable stay at this Victorian mansion. The detail and craftsmanship throughout are worth the visit alone. Our inn keeper was delightful and took the time to show us around and explain some of the many features of the home. It’s obvious a lot of love has gone into this place. Always making a visit to a B&B special are the guests we shared breakfast with. A wonderful family. As an added bonus, we discovered the inn was featured in a movie back in 2019. It was fun to see some of the furnishings we had observed. Not a bad watch.
We stayed in the Romeo and Juliet suite, which was lovely and romantic. I wish we could have stayed another night, but this room is usually booked. The suite was large, and the jetted tub was a relaxing way to end the evening. The breakfast was okay; mimosas would be a nice option. I recommend checking it out. Overall, it was a great experience, and I would do it again!
A beautiful chateau with beautiful gardens around it. The host is lovely and welcoming and the room was beautiful and spacious. I would highly recommend this beautiful bed and breakfast to anyone staying in St. Joseph.
Very comfortable in luxurious suite. Attentive host. Delicious breakfast. This is an exquisite old mansion with many fine details. The needs of guests have been well thought out. Looking forward to staying there again. Quiet location is easy to navigate from for museums and Beltway shopping. Quiet.
The Inn is beautiful. There is all the charm of a historic mansion with enough modern conveniences. We stayed in the Romeo and Juliette suite. It was very romantic. This was our second stay, and we plan to stay again and invite some other couples.
A Masterpiece of Hospitality: The Shakespeare Chateau Inn Bed & Breakfast and Gardens Stepping into the Shakespeare Chateau Inn is like stepping back in time to an era of unparalleled elegance and grandeur, yet with all the modern comforts you could possibly desire. Perched majestically on "Millionaires' Row" in historic St. Joseph, this isn't just a bed and breakfast; it's a living work of art, a testament to meticulous restoration, and a sanctuary of exceptional hospitality. From the moment you cross the threshold, the sheer beauty of the Chateau envelops you. The expansive foyer, with its stunning encaustic tile, ornate woodwork, and the magnificent bust of Shakespeare presiding over the fireplace, immediately sets a tone of refined splendor. We were personally greeted by the innkeeper, Isobel, whose passion for this historic home is evident in every thoughtful detail and every engaging story she shares. Her warmth and genuine care made us feel not just like guests, but like welcomed friends. We stayed in the "Romeo & Juliet" suite, and it was a romantic dream. Each of the six suites is a unique masterpiece, named after a Shakespearean play and adorned with period art, antiques, and luxurious linens that practically guarantee a restorative night's sleep. Our room featured a charming fireplace, exquisitely comfortable bed, and a private bath with a jetted tub that was a pure indulgence. The attention to detail, from the fresh flowers to the pristine cleanliness, was impeccable. The fact that each suite has its own climate control was a welcome touch, ensuring perfect comfort. The highlight of each morning was undoubtedly the gourmet breakfast. Served in the opulent Zuber Parlor or the richly paneled dining room, complete with original Zuber wallpaper and a Belle Epoque crystal chandelier, the meal was a culinary delight. Isobel is a truly gifted chef, and each morning brought a new, delectable creation, from her "Hamlet" baked egg casserole with Irish cheddar and broccoli to flaky scones with homemade lemon curd. Accompanied by fresh fruit, perfectly brewed coffee, fruit juices, and engaging conversation with fellow guests, breakfast was a leisurely and joyous experience, a wonderful way to begin our days of exploring St. Joseph. Beyond the exquisite interiors, the Shakespeare Chateau's gardens offer a peaceful respite. They are beautifully maintained, providing lovely spots for a quiet stroll or simply enjoying the serene surroundings. The location, high on a bluff overlooking the city and the Missouri River, offers breathtaking views and a sense of historical significance. What truly elevates the Shakespeare Chateau Inn above other accommodations is Isobel's dedication and her commitment to providing an extraordinary experience. Her knowledge of the home's history and the local area is extensive, and she is always ready with a thoughtful recommendation. The 47 original stained-glass windows throughout the mansion are a marvel, creating a captivating play of light and color that is simply mesmerizing. Our stay at the Shakespeare Chateau Inn was an absolute privilege. It's a place where history comes alive, luxury is understated and authentic, and hospitality is truly an art form. Whether you're seeking a romantic getaway, a unique historical immersion, or simply a tranquil escape, this bed and breakfast is an unparalleled choice. We left feeling refreshed, inspired, and already planning our return to this magnificent gem in St. Joseph. An unforgettable experience – five stars all the way!

As a distant relative of Joseph Robidoux, I am so thankful I had the opportunity to visit these grounds. Another relative, Louise Robidoux founder Riverside, California 🇺🇸
This is a great place to learn about some history of the founding of Saint Joseph. I had my wedding here, and the staff were great and very accommodating!
We rented the place for our wedding, the very kind lady willing to help with the schedules, very grateful to her, we recommend the place, it is a very good option.
Excellent explaination of development of St Joseph. ROBIDOUX was quite the developer, explorer, and town father. His impact continues. Staff friendly and helpful.
Its a small museum but its still comprehensive in covering an important figure of Saint Joseph, in fact one of its founders There is also a nice garden (being improved) and space which can be rented out for events and activities (especially popular for weddings).
History buffs will enjoy this place! The oldest remaining building in St. Joseph still has a lot to offer and a lot to teach. Basement rental room is soooo perfect for showers, group gatherings, etc. and at such reasonable rates.
What a wonderful experience touring Robidoux Row! Much of this is thanks to your tour guide and museum curator. Her knowledge, passion and knack for story telling is absolutely unbeatable! In a day where the guided tour is sadly becoming obsolete it was a sincere pleasure to get one from someone who is thrilled to give them! This museum is more than just a history of the building. It's a brief history of St. Joseph, MO. St. Joe has a lot of wonderful museums. Don't skip this one!
I enjoy coming here but I wouldn’t necessarily consider the indoor portion child friendly. Lots of great information about the man, his family, and the city, but it’s not very interactive. I enjoy going by myself to learn and I always learn something new.
