Wow! What an experience, Heidi & Joel and there son David are just so kind and welcoming! They treat you like family. We spent 2 hours just cuddling and sitting with the monkeys it is an experience I will never forget. Joel took our phone to take photos that we will treasure forever. If you have emailed them and haven’t had a response then please keep trying and they will respond to you, just remember that is it a family run sanctuary they do everything themselves so it may just take longer than usual to get round to emails x
Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Admittedly, because of the cost, I was initially hesitant to book. However, if any of you are hesitating to connect with the Jungle Place and live an absolutely once in a lifetime adventure - do not hesitate any more! This experience was something we will cherish forever and was almost too cute to describe. We got to spend a good 90 minutes with these monkeys. It took a while for them to get comfortable with us, but once they did - holy smokes! I can’t count how many snuggles I got with various monkeys. And my children and husband also had so much Q T with the monkeys. It is obvious that Heidi and her family take excellent care of these monkeys. If you’re looking for a fancy zoo experience, go elsewhere. If you’re looking to live an authentic and meaningful moment with some absolutely adorable spider monkeys, come here! Communication with David via email was top notch. My heart aches a little not being with those monkeys anymore… thankfully we have hundreds of photos to cherish. Thank you for welcoming us into your home. We hope to visit again.
What an amazing place!! Heidi and her husband have dedicated their whole lives to rescuing and rehabilitating spider monkeys from the horrific abuses of the illegal wildlife trade. Being able to interact closely with such kind, intelligent and beautiful animals was a once in a lifetime experience! The spider monkeys will come to you on their own so they will not be overwhelmed. Heidi so kindly provides a very fascinating backstory of the sanctuary and some of the monkeys stories as well. Unlike many other wildlife "sanctuaries" that prioritize money and over tourism over the welfare of the animals, The Jungle Place lives with the spider monkeys as family. Heidi's inseparable bond with the monkeys is beyond amazing. Visiting the Jungle Place is not only an incredibly life changing experience, but also provides you with a new perspective of the importance of respecting and caring for all animals. Highly recommend people of all ages to experience this place!
2025-This is not a commercial place. You’ll be visiting what is essentially a family home with a sprawling array of cages attached. You get to enter one cage with 5 female monkeys (after removing any sun glasses, watches, phones, anything loose about your person). As long as you follow instructions, the monkeys are curious and will want to come around you and on you. It is an amzing experience to see these animals up close, we spent nearly two hours there. However, the place is run on a shoe string and there are no ‘facilites’ to speak of, just genuine people caring for rescued monkeys, approx 100 of them when we visited Aug 2025. Take fruit, cereal and nuts with you to donate. It is quite the unique experience! The animals were clean, inquisitive and appeared happy. Not to be confused with touristy commercial Monkey Sanctuary in Akumel. If staying on coast the taxi will be expensive, we spent over $100 travelling from Royalton Splash hotel.
Wow, I never thought I would be able to get so close to monkeys! We’ve been to other places, and were afraid to get near them. These monkeys are sooo cute and friendly! One would even grab your arm to wrap around themselves for hugs and cuddles. It was the highlight of our trip without a question. Heidi and Joel do an amazing job taking care of the monkeys, and the experience was much better than going to a zoo. We hope to visit them again in the near future! (:
Thank you to Joel and his step-son David for their hospitality and for allowing us to spend time and interact with these sweet spider monkeys. One of the best experiences of our lives. Please donate and schedule a visit to this non-profit organization if you're ever in Quintana Roo, Mexico. We will definitely visit again soon.
This was such a great visit , Heidi and Joel made us feel like we were part of their family. The interaction with the monkeys it's an unforgettable experience, this is not like an amusement park where you are rushed to be in and out , you can definitely take as long as you want cuddling with them and Joel will use your own phone to take pictures so you can be fully submerged with your interaction with the monkeys! This is truly a hidden gem in the jungle. Thank you Heidi and Joel we would definitely visit again . P.s We were staying in playa del carmen , went to the colectivo station by the chedraui and told the driver to drop us off in the town of Chemuyil . From there we waited for a taxi at the taxi stop across the street ( there is only one taxi so give yourself time to wait) that took us to the jungle place ( 5 min ride) Ask the taxi driver for their number and you can call them to pick you up when you're done.
Heidi and Joel gave us the experience of a lifetime and treated us like family! It was the highlight of our trip to Mexico. We had the pleasure of being able to interact with the rescued Spider Monkeys for two hours and have come back with core memories. We are so grateful to Heidi, Joel and David for their hospitality and for an incredible time. We will be back.

Our guide Marvin was amazing. Super knowledgeable and friendly, he made the whole experience better. The three cenotes were each unique but all very cool. Tip, buy the photos they are worth it.
Marvin was a fantastic guide. The team was accommodating and informative. I especially liked sitting in the sacred cave, surrounded by new friends expressing our gratitude. Thank you!
This was one of the best tours I've ever been on! Christian and his team were very friendly and easy to talk to! I definitely recommend this tour. We went early in the morning and basically had all the cenotes for ourselves! I am not a good swimmer and have never free dived before but Christian was an amazing teacher and I had learned super fast with his expertise!
I’ve traveled all over the world, so I’m pretty hard to impress. On paper this was a bike ride and a couple of swims, in reality it was far more meaningful. Our guide Marvin is a local, born and raised in Chemuyil. He knew every inch of the jungle and cenotes. Marvin’s energy and outlook on life felt like talking to an old friend- we ended up having deep conversations on positive energy and living well between our swims. That connection mattered just as much as experiencing the energy of the cenotes. You’re not herded around. You ride simple bikes, stop at three very different cenotes and have locals watching your stuff while you swim. We felt welcomed all over town. Bejil‑Ha exists to protect its community’s cenotes and employ locals. By joining their tour you support that project. The day ends with a homemade meal cooked by women in the village- easily the best food we ate in Mexico. If you want a genuine, community‑run adventure with real connection, don’t miss this.
A very Good experience with the discovery 3 cenotes with nobody, we were allmost alone. Many historical details from our guide Marcus and a safe feeling thanks to 2 guides for our family (5 peuple ). Thank you for all the beautyfull photos taken by Cesar ! We recommend this experience for teenagers and family moment. We also took the lunch in the boutique, it was very hood and a good closong of the activity.
I already left the review on Airbnb, but the guys deserve appreciation on every platform possible! The experience was super nice, but I’d like to highlight the energy and atmosphere by the staff and our tour guide! Easy going, fun, friendly, respectful, helpful and very knowledgable! We had a very nice experience! Thank you team! I can’t remember the last time I left the tour or any experience with such a warm feeling!
This is more than a cenotes tour. It's a tour of their hearts. This town is incredible and the people are beyond welcoming. I will dream of this day for years. Thank you Marvin and the crew for all you did. I am humbled by you.
Our guides Marcos, Cesar and Chino were amazing!! They made sure they educated us on the history and cleaning efforts of the cenotes. Super supportive and tons of fun!! A must go to plus you get to help out the community while doing so.
