Tourist information center
Absoloot Hostel QT is a vibrant waterfront accommodation situated in the heart of Queenstown, offering a range of room types to cater to diverse needs. The hostel features recently refurbished dorms and private rooms with stylish decor and scenic views. Guests can make use of the fully equipped kitchen on the second floor, spacious common areas with entertainment options, and thoughtful amenities such as phone-charging ports and under-the-bed lockers in dorm rooms.
Booked a family room with bathroom attached and it was lovely! Our room was right next to the kitchen and it could not be better. There’s shops, bars, info centers, tour pickups, restaurants (Fergburger is just minute walk away!) all within walking distance. And it being at the harbour, makes the view fantastic. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Had a great stay at Absoloot Hostel QT! Everything was clean, well-organized, and the location is perfect—right in the heart of Queenstown. The staff were super friendly and helpful throughout. The only small thing I missed was a shelf by the bed to put some personal items, but otherwise, everything was excellent. Would definitely stay again!
Gideon J — Google review
This hostel is in a fantastic location for a Queenstown trip, walking distance to everything and amazing views! We booked a family room and it was perfect for our requirements, plenty of space and a private bathroom. Kitchen has everything you need in a hostel. The private rooms are serviced daily which was a pleasant surprise. Staff were helpful with any questions we had. The hostel has luggage storage and board/ski gear storage which were both a bonus. Would definitely stay at Absoloot again.

You can't get any where better then this. We started in an en suite bathroom room. Rooms: Newly renovated, even the tap was shiny. Sheets were clean and crisp. Blanket kept us warm. Towels were clean. Shower gel is of better quality than other lodges I have stayed in. Nice hot shower. Kitchen: Beyond fully equipped: 8 stoves, abundant crockeries, pots and pans, utensils, seasoning, hot drinks, fridge, microwave, etc. So clean and new. Icing on top is the lake view while U dine. Location: Right in front of the lake wharf and within the shopping street. Service: Really helpful and friendly front desk, always ready and patient to answer queries.

First of, thanks so much for correcting the nationality part! It was already a very good impression before arriving.:) The location is unbeatable! Super close to bus stop to the airport and the group tour meeting point. Not to mention the great view from the kitchen and nice bars within 5min walk. Room was clean. Bed was comfy with sockets and a bed light- quite convenient. Staff was soooo nice!!! The recommended pubs and travel tips are awesome. Thanks so much. Will definitely come back!
Ming C — Google review
Had a wonderful stay here! Right by the lake with fantastic views from the room. And incredibly friendly staff, Demmet (sorry if I'm spelling that wrong!) was full of information and seemed genuinely happy to help and answer all of my questions, recommending amazing places to see which I would have probably missed if it weren't for her! Wish I'd had more time to spend in Queenstown as I feel like I only scratched the surface of what there is to do here and Absoloot is definitely a great place to see it from.
Mike R — Google review
Two great stays in one week. First night in a private queen room. Second night in a private twin room. Clean, comfortable, and well set up. Friendly and helpful staff. Large kitchen, lounge, and laundry. Excellent central, waterfront location. A five minute walk from the main bus stop and surrounded by shops and restaurants. So much better and quieter than most hostels.
Lori B — Google review
This is the cleanest and quietest hostel I've ever stayed in. The view from the kitchen over the lake is gorgeous. The shared dorms have little storage lockers (if you bring your own lock), and each bed bunk has curtains you can pull closed for more privacy. The beds are actually really comfortable! (A massive bonus for me!) I got a clean towel with my booking. The bathroom/shower area is clean and tidy, and I never saw a mess in the kitchen the whole time I was here. The staff are friendly and helpful. And the location could not be more perfect, I could walk to everywhere I needed to go in the city centre. Ngā mihi nui for making my Tāhuna stay so easful :)

Hostel
Nomads Queenstown Hostel offers a variety of accommodations, including dorms and private rooms, with amenities such as a sauna, communal kitchen, and free Wi-Fi. While some guests have noted concerns about cleanliness and the hostel's reputation, others find it suitable for short stays. Situated by the lake in the heart of Queenstown, this budget-friendly hostel provides stunning mountain views and air-conditioned rooms. Its central location allows easy access to the town's vibrant nightlife.
We stayed in a double bed room with Mountain View & a shared balcony! We absolutely loved it. We had our own bathroom & a small fridge! Everything was super clean & the staff was super friendly and helpful🙌🏼 On the other side or the hostel is a bar, sometimes you can hear the bar in the evening but Queenstown is a city so that’s what you can expect - didn’t bother us at all! Thank you for the amazing stay! Elisa!

Personally I wouldn’t pick this accommodation again. Good thing of this hostel is its location, as it’s only a minute away from the city centre, restaurants, shops, etc. The hotel staff was also nice. I think it is perfect for young adults in their early twenties who may be travelling alone and want to meet new people, or for “party people” groups. In my case however I was looking for a rather comfortable and quiet place, and this was neither. The hostel is packed with people, the kitchen is too small to host everyone at peak hours and the shared dorms are rather messy as there is not enough room for everyone’s belongings. No hangers or wardrobes available, no benches or chairs to stack things, so everything ends up on the floor. It just feels overwhelmingly crowded. I stayed here with my Dad (in his 60s) and it was definitely not the atmosphere we were looking for. The night clubs are also just around the corner, so ear plugs are definitely needed if you’re a light sleeper. Overall I think there are nicer places to stay in the same area which would offer a more comfortable experience.
Reyes P — Google review
Ok hostel, good location, good size clean kitchen. Our room was very prison cell like with only a tiny window. Staff weren’t super helpful- we were travelling in a group but booked separately and they weren’t open to trying to see if we could all go in the same room. Bathrooms stunk the whole time we were there.
Bridget W — Google review
I came back past 11pm and the sliding door was locked and I knock the door they refuse to open as they mention only can be opened via app, which came as surprise for me I wasn't aware of the app thingy, neither during my check in, I wasn't advise by the staff to compulsory download the app. even in slip given it was no link or QR code of the app. The guy who refuse to give me his name was extremely rude, he just make me wait outside, with 2 other staff standing at the corner and after my 3rd knock, one of the staff came and unlock the door. I said I genuinely didn't know about the app. look it can be any reason, staff who makes the customer wait outside in that cold night, I mean he is working on a computer he can either get his staff to just open the door for me or he himself can unlock it, his reason was no button to unlock the door from the frontdesk, here comes the funny part, from a place that high tech using the app to access pretty much everything, don't have a simple button to unlock the main door from their front desk. I took a private room and it's not exactly cheap for this kind of place. I came back to receptionist and ask may I get your name and he refuse to give. I said its for my feedback to management, he refuse it as well. Customer service is just mind blowing, what a guy and what a crew. absolutely disgusting. also Sauna is not in service.
Devananth M — Google review
If you are a light sleeper, I do not recommend booking from this as there are bars nearby. So it gets pretty noisy throughout the night.... However the location is awesome. If you are someone who needs good connectivity..... I do not recommend as the wifi is very choppy... You get disconnected quite frequently and the speed is super slow. Last of all, the service is ok ... They rely on the app which it is not prompt ( due to the horrible wifi and maybe they miss the message or they overlook it...) but the service over the counter was wonderful... The cleaning of room is a give n miss .... At times they clean it properly... At times they forget to replenish or totally didn clean at all... Other than that, if you like to socialize and want to be in the middle of all the happenings, this is a pretty good place for you to stay.
Joyce K — Google review
Staff seem nice and welcoming, but what's wrong with a simple keycar to enter the hostel/ room? I don't want to download and register with some app for one nights stay. What an absurd system. The fan in the bathroom was very loud and no switch to turn it off. Room itself was freezing (room 330). And before you say I should've spoken to reception about making it warmer, how about you instruct reception to set a room temp to a warm setting when the room is being occupied. Cheers.
Ernesta G — Google review
Wonderful hostel to stay at! Amazing service from the front desk girls, Rachael and Ellen. Great communal areas that everyone can share. Bathrooms are super clean and have lots of cubicles. Highly recommend as it is super close to everything, it’s walking distance from all the food places and shops and activities too!
Samantha L — Google review
If you only want a bed close to town. Service appalling. Got locked out of room Made to look like it was my issue despite me and two other trying prior. Uber eats arrived sat down at reception there despite having room number on it....till I rang reception one hour later.i went down to get it an hour later She said I don't have to do room service. I said it had room number on it oh I only looked for a name ...... Tv not going great man came and had a look then came back to be informed It was the because of the storm it was not working not sure how she knew this when it was the first she heard of any problems she stated. Said when asked if someone no one else was when I went down the tv chap was still working. As for heating up meal got told kitchen closed 15 minutes ago.so instead of suggesting let's heat it up first on 1st floor as you are on the 3rd floor. You don't become customer focused when you are to busy being defensive. Shame stayed there 4 times before but not again.

Went there few days ago, encountered Josh at the reception desk, dude was so nice and even suggested few places to go! Also granted our small request to make to the room a little special xD We stayed in a cabin with 1 queen bed and single bunk bed, toilet is having to go out to the kitchen area, laundry provided easy to use They have i think like weekly night activities with all the backpackers in there? Anyways, thanks! Hope to be there again. Very recommended

We were in a private room and the hostel was very Noisy. It looks like was run by a bunch of college students that were partying every night. We could not sleep well for 3 consecutive nights. Definitely not a place were you want to rest at night. Room was extremely small and with walls that you can hear everything. Don't recommend at all.
Borja L — Google review
Arrived to this hostel my second night in queenstown, planned to stay a few nights, ended up staying here almost a month. Jose brought me in with a warm welcome and Josh was very helpful with anything I needed for the duration of my stay. Lovely long termers, great social environment, somewhere to come back to as a second home.
Carter G — Google review
Apart from parking as below the cabin at the backpackers met and exceeded expectations. But we were very disappointed with the false advertising of parking being available. It turns out parking is very limited and on a first come, first served basis. The booking site we used advertised it as having parking but no mention of it being limited in any way. It was only mentioned on the welcome message once we'd paid and could not reorganise. It then turned out on one night we could not get parking and could not get parking on the street at all and spent over an hour sorting it out. We had to pay for paid overnight parking, get an Uber back due to rain, and get up early the next morning before the parking expired. Not a pleasant experience. This place really needs to advertise properly that it is limited parking or allocate parking.
Tim G — Google review
Honestly... the location is great. A stonethrow away from the city center, walkable. Its peaceful. Reasonably cost as well. Service: Staff is great. Friendly whenever necessary though they do tend to stick to the familiar. Lol. I liked that they have quiz nights, games nights and movie nights to keep the crowd entertained and included. Room: i had shared bunk upstairs. Pretty good. Spacious. I liked that each bunk has their own small curtains for privacy. Loads of shared cabinets as well. Loved that theres an ensuite bathroom though there's many toilets within the backpackers itself. What i didnt like was people overusing the hooks allocated. Couldnt dry my towel properly. Shared kitchen: like every other accoms in QT, theres no fridge space. I had to leave all my groceries in the car. Hmm. Shared living room: cozy. Huge and comfortable couches. Big tv, board games, books. U'll never be bored. Parking: while there is free parking outside the backpackers.. the no. of slots arent alot. The sign (hostel parking) seems misleading too. Theres only like 3 lots below.. very cramped. My car got dented and scratched. 😪 big cars,.fyi. Park outside the backpackers. Safest.
Jolyn F — Google review
Double room was very cosy and had every comfort. The staff is super friendly and everything very clean and maintained. Special shout-out to José. Location is amazing. The hostel is super cosy, with lots of light, cosy common spaces and a lovely atmosphere among the long stay residents. Also, it has parking space and its a 5mins walk to the city center + 3mins to thej super market. Big recommend.

Amazing hostel for the price. Bring your own towels as you need to rent them for $10. The bathroom has a communal hand towel which is often dirty so bring one of those too!

Hostel
Adventure Q2 Hostel is a vibrant and lively accommodation option in Queenstown, offering basic dorms and private rooms along with shared facilities like a kitchen and lounge. As the sister hostel of the well-regarded Adventure Queenstown Hostel, it provides friendly service and quality rooms on a smaller scale. The dorm beds come with curtains, USB charging ports, reading lights, and even two pillows for a comfortable night's sleep.
We stayed there multiple times during our trip to NZ. The hostel is super social and we met both some great people to go out with for the evening and some friends we have continued to stay in touch with. The kitchen is lovely and the computers/printers were helpful for planning the rest of our trip. We also loved the free bike rental and luggage storage.
Lauren H — Google review
I stayed here 2 years ago and I haven’t been back to Queenstown since but I still talk about how comfortable the bunk beds were at least once a month. Three of us stayed here for 5 nights and every single morning we’d wake up and say we had the best sleep of our lives. I felt like I was encased in a womb and that each morning the bed would give birth to me. 10/10 would really recommend
Riain G — Google review
Excellent location and PIN code lock safety mechanism on major entries are helpful. I stayed in 6 dormitories ensuite. Rooms are bigger and there are a huge storage for each resident. Extra lockers and storage can be found outside the bunk should you need more space. Towel is provided as well. Very quiet at night thus can sleep well. Kitchen is huge and I still find space to put my groceries inside the fridge and cubicle outside. Will be back to stay for a couple of nights when I am back to Queenstown.
Wuang D — Google review
All the staff were lovely! Especially Alan was helping me with general questions about Queenstown and helped me to get around in the hostel. Wren and Leigh were spicing up the nights with great social connection games and music bingo was my highlight! Thank you guys so much!!😎

Super cool hostel. We stayed there last year and absolutely loved it ! We are staying again this year aswell. Super Friendly and helpful staff ! Great location and great rooms and facilities!

Leich and Aglae are two lovely workers who always welcome you with a smile. The accommodation is located in the city center. However, one of the staff members, Mathilde, entered the rooms without knocking, thus invading guests’ privacy. She also gave unpleasant looks to the clients and shouted in the kitchen.

This is really a good place to stay, very central located in Queenstown. Reception is great and the room is clean. I really enjoy my stay here.
Lennon L — Google review
This hostel was amazing! Everyone was helpful, friendly, and respectful. The beds were not wobbly, and came with curtesy curtains and plugs. There was an elevator and huge lockable storage spaces beneath the bunk beds. Plenty of room in the kitchen for everyone, and a large common room for hanging out. And they had something each night for people to socialize! I stayed twice at this hostel and it was a Great experience both times! I wish I could stay longer here.

Guests can unwind in the hot tub or whip up meals in the communal kitchen while enjoying complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the property. Great facilities for a backpackers and a chilled atmosphere. Location is great being out of the hustle of the town but only a 2 minute walk away. Sauna and hot tub are awesome bonuses which are free to use. Private room was great with a wee fridge and jug which made my stay convenient. Kitchen is stocked with everything you need to cook. Enjoyed my stay here!
Rayn W — Google review
We had such a great stay here! The team were super helpful and welcoming, especially the lovely lady with the blonde hair who went out of her way to assist us. The open spaces really stood out – we loved relaxing in the lounge by the fireplace, it felt so cozy and social. The bathrooms could be a bit bigger, but honestly, that wasn’t a deal-breaker at all. For a three-night stay, this place is perfect. They also offer bike rentals, which is awesome if you want to take a ride down to the lake. We stayed in the King room and it exceeded our expectations, super clean, had Netflix, plenty of coffee facilities, and was really warm and comfortable, especially in the middle of winter. The central location made it easy to get around town as well. Overall, a great experience – would definitely recommend!
Jed H — Google review
Best hostel I’ve ever stayed in, Sauna and hot pool are massive bonuses and people are the best. Great views from everywhere, staff super chilled. Only gripe is how little space the bottom bunk has in comparison to the top but that’s just me being bias because I kept hitting my head. Definitely gonna book this hostel every time I’m in Qtown.
Marcus S — Google review
I was staying here for a few days back in April and had some issues with the place. My biggest issue was with the design of the toilet/shower rooms. At least one of the women's shower rooms is very tightly packed (If I remember correctly, the one on the 2nd floor). There's not enough space to brush your teeth when other people have used the toilet and need to wash their hands. There was nowhere to put your belongings while in the shower. I even mean nowhere to hang a towel, never mind a place to set soap. The sink counter would get so wet because they weren't well designed so even if people were being careful, they were super wet. My next complaint is about the key system. I do not like being required to download an app in order to access my room. Or needing to bring my phone to the bathroom, especially when there's nowhere dry to put down my phone when I shower. The facilities were not worth the price I had to pay for being in Queenstown. The staff were very nice, especially Nicole.
Missy B — Google review
Great location, short walk to town. Fantastic staff- friendly, helpful, welcoming and they really make it feel like a homely experience. Great facilities- reliably super clean and tidy, love the sauna and spa, and bike rental choices available. Have stayed here several times during different seasons and will happily choose to stay here again on future visits to Queenstown. Thank you! 😊

If you’re looking for a long term stay black sheep might not be it. The people of black sheep are wonderful, the management is incredibly hostile. They constantly change the rates to make more money with no regard for the people living there. They close the kitchen at 11 and the lounge at 12 so if you work late shifts you have no where to eat or relax after work. It is run like a hotel not a hostel. There’s no regard for building community, for nurturing good relationships with guest, or even an ounce of mutual respect between the management team and the guests. The reception team is fantastic, they deserve the world. It’s the management and owners who ruin this otherwise wonderful place.
Maeve S — Google review
I would not recommend this hostel, especially for female travelers. The check-in process was confusing, amenities were misleading (no hairdryer, limited laundry hours, no coin exchange, unclean common areas), and the staff were unhelpful and dismissive. Laundry was advertised, but guests aren’t told that the machines only operate between 5pm–11pm. When we returned from a late tour, we tried to do one quick load around 9pm. The machines only take coins, and the front desk doesn’t provide change — meaning we had to walk 10 minutes into town to find some. When we got back, we had to rush through the cycle, and the washers were older didn’t even include a spin option, so our clothes were soaking wet. At 10:15pm, we asked if we could wait a few minutes past 11pm for the dryer to finish, and were told no. The staff member named Denise, came in at 10:58pm, joked that we were “there until the last minute,” then awkwardly backtracked, saying she was “only joking.” When we asked if there was another laundromat nearby, she told us to “ask the morning receptionist.” We ended up outside in the cold trying to rinse the moisture by hand in the dark for about 40 minutes. Most concerning, a male housekeeper twice entered the women’s bathroom while I was undressed or showering, without knocking or announcing himself. When I reported it each time after it happened (within a 20 minute window) the staff, Nicole, she offered no apology, downplayed the situation, told my husband I didn’t offer the correct facts and changed their tone when I returned with him and only suggested we check out early and reimburse us for the night we already paid for. The lack of accountability and disregard for guest safety was unacceptable—the only positive thing about this hostel is its location.

Hello there.. let me share my experience at Black Sheep Backpackers for a couple of days and if you have liked this property or still in two minds then this review might help clear it, I guess. I do not have any pictures as I don't picture pocket everything but I didn't find the property anything less than the pictures on their web page. I would say it is better than the pictures. It is one of the best shared properties that I've come across and it is on top of my go-to list whenever I'm solo in Queenstown. They have simple and fair rules which is highly recommended for smooth management, you may just have to align your timings with theirs, trust me this only brings a good order in taking care of everyone and everything at the same time. Next, I loved the staff who is friendly and helpful, I would say it is always good to speak to them prior to your stay about whatever your needs are and as per availability they may consider your requests. In my case, they provided me a preferred choice of bed and a safe space for luggage storage even after my checkout timings. I must say, the availability is the prime factor and it is solely up to them to fulfill your request. Lastly, few pointers below for quick read through:- Pros: 1. Supportive and friendly staff. 2. Great property to hang back n do nothing outdoors. 3. Very handy kitchen. 4. Clean bathrooms on all floors. 5. Decent beddings and rooms. 6. Personal security for luggage is available. 7. All bathrooms and your room are accessible with your passcode only. So you have your peace of mind that your things are safe. 8. Heaps of common spaces to sit, dine, chill etc. The place has safe & friendly vibe to it. 9. Outdoor tub and sauna and other amenities. 10. Close to city centre. 11. All time surveillance. Cons: 1. Carry your ear/headphones if you want to cover your sleep from travel. 2. Kitchen cookware are beyond worn out. Good if you want to carry your owns for longer stay. My 2 days were perfect with what was available. 3. Your nearest drinking water supply can be a bit away for midnight drinkers especially when it is cold. 4. No car parking. I definitely love Black Sheep Backpackers.. I wouldn't write this long if I didn't like it 😀 and thank God found before the summers. Haha. Thanks for being there. See ya 😊

Hostel
Haka House Queenstown Lakefront is a popular youth hostel located just a ten-minute walk from the heart of Queenstown. It's an ideal place for solo travelers to meet people from around the world, offering various air-conditioned accommodations including shared dormitories, private rooms, and family rooms. While slightly out of town, the spacious and well-equipped kitchen provides convenience for guests.
Staff are very professional, helpful polite and friendly. The hostel is clean all round. The beds are very comfortable with chargers and there is secure lockers with codes. The kitchen is nice with plenty of space and the dining room has lots of seats, tables and room. The movie lounge is awesome with comfortable seats. The gaming room has a nice pool table and a vending machine. The staff allow you to use the storage room after checkout for just $4 and still let you use the facilities while you wait. I had a great stay for a reasonable price. Thank you to all the staff, you are fantastic people and I will be back!

We stayed in two rooms: a King Room Ensuite with Lake View and a Budget Twin Room. While the lake views from the King Room were lovely, we found the room uncomfortably cold. The heater was too small for the space, and there was no heating in the bathroom, which made winter mornings difficult. The Budget Twin Room was compact and came with shared bathroom facilities, which were fine, but the shared kitchen area felt overcrowded and not as clean as what we experienced at other Haka House properties. Also, note that the elevator starts at the first floor, so you’ll need to carry your luggage up a flight of stairs first—not ideal if you have heavy bags. The location is very convenient though, and this hostel might still be a decent choice for backpackers or younger travelers.

One of the few hostel stays we had, and it was a decent experience in general. The two stars taken off it was due to parking and noise. 🅿️ there’s not really parking on site since there’s only 5 lots, i don’t think it’s even free? So you would have to do street parking for the most part. 🔊 awoken by door slams and trucks passing by the main road at 0630, i didn’t manage to get back to sleep after. There’s also a lot of thumping on the level above us late into the night, rendering it a short sleep for me that night. The lounge area also started playing music that we could hear at 8am.. All that said, it was fairly valued, clean, easy to check in and a 10 minutes walk to the city centre with an amazing view as company! 🔑 the key to the room was via the app since i downloaded it, and was very convenient to get us into the room - without having to go to the reception. 🏔️ the views out of the room was perfect, we got lucky and arrived with blue skies keeping us company, and got to see the beautiful mountain and lakes in all its glory. Definitely one to consider if you are looking for a hostel stay.

Absolutely loved my stay at Haka House Queenstown Lakefront! The location is unbeatable — just a short walk to the lake and all the main spots in town. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and had amazing views. The staff were super friendly and helpful, always ready with great local tips. Perfect place for both relaxation and adventure. Highly recommend!

Had an amazing stay for 7 nights, met so many lovely people from all backgrounds, perfect location as you’re a 5 min stroll into town or borrow the E-scooters parked right out front! From the kitchens to the toilets everything was spotless! 11/10!! Will be staying with the Haka house families everytime I come back!

Just had an amazing 3-night stay at Haka House Queenstown Lakefront! The location is perfect, with stunning views right on the lake. Everything was super clean and well-maintained, which made for a really comfortable stay. But what really stood out was the staff – they were all so friendly and helpful, especially Dylon, who went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. Definitely recommend Haka House to anyone visiting Queenstown!

Like other comment mentioned- Noise- -can hear the main driveway. Which is a main road in Queenstown - can hear the doors open & close very clearly -Can hear loud music in neighborhood Facilities & cleanliness - - mobile app takes forever to load. Must ask for a key card - dusty & greasy in bed cube, room facilities and curtains. You can also tell they don't vacuum the carpet - shower tubes are broken/leaking -mattress make squeaky sound. Bed frame metal clunking. You'll make noise whenever you move - the shower is always filthy wet. The bathmat is so wet that it can't absorb any water no more. But nobody would change it - bathroom and kitchen can be gross. I know people are supposed to clean up but you should have staff to keep it monitor or don't tolerate people - pillow cases in the room have yellow patches. Probably sweat but still so gross I didn't book with this email so you don't have to look me up. I know this is a hostel but doesn't mean you don't have to clean things properly. Won't come back again.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Queenstown, Tahuna Pod Hostel offers a unique and relaxed atmosphere for travelers seeking an affordable yet memorable stay. As New Zealand's first pod hostel, it beautifully integrates Maori heritage into its design, creating a culturally rich environment. Guests can enjoy complimentary breakfast and evening soup while mingling in communal spaces like the spacious balcony with breathtaking views, cozy TV lounge, and well-equipped kitchen.
This is a little gem!! Staff here super helpful and informative. The whole establishment is well presented and maintained throughout. I only got to stay for a night, but I really wished I booked here and the place I am at is crappy lol. The rooms where mixed but my roomies moved around quietly. The bed is super comfy!! Roomy too and warm. Was handy having the kitchenette, though there is a full kitchen downstairs that was super clean, love the touch with naming food. Also the views are amazing and how close you are to town - I will be back!!

This hostel is so nice it made it very hard to leave. -Immaculately cleaned every day. -Steaming hot, super clean showers with ‘power-washer’ water pressure. -Super friendly staff -Awesome location -COMFY beds, and solid structures…no swaying in a metal bunk bed every time your bunk mate turns over. -great kitchen, several fridge/freezers and pantry storage space, plenty of cooking utensils -awesome chill out lounge with great views and a terrace. -on-site laundry LSS: very much worth the money. Just be careful on the indoor stairs if they’ve recently been mopped💀😂

We had an amazing stay at Tahuna Pod Hostel. Pod Hostel is a great name because each bunk was enclosed and it felt super comfortable and safe in bed. It’s different than other hostels where it’s a bunk bed - this is really a bunk wooden POD. The kitchen was spotless truly! Super organized and clean. The hosts and guests really followed the rules to make the communal space feel very inviting. I loved sitting on the outside balcony and reading, watching the people go by. I would definitely stay again!

Staff are very friendly, chatty and informative! The hostel in at an excellent location close to everything in the city. Areas are kept well maintained and cleaned. Kitchen is very well equipped however it’s missing a few staples like aluminium foil, baking paper, cling wrap, salt, pepper, olive oil etc. However the upper bunks were a BIG minus. The ladder is quite tall and uncomfortable to climb up and down. My legs got in pain from using it and I’m pretty fit. The sprinklers are also placed in the upper bunk literally above your head which makes you fear that if you touch or hit them you will have water thrown at you.

Linda, Ricky, Matilda, and Shay were awesome. They were so helpful and accommodating. The kitchen and dorm rooms were always neat and clean. The showers had fantastic hot water. The privacy curtains for the beds were a bonus! It provided privacy and light blocking to help with sleep. All of the rooms had lockable lockers. Tahuna hostel also provided free luggage storage during excursions. A great place. A great value.

My private room was really clean, had a smart TV with Netflix, a towel, and shared toilets/showers just next to it. I’m super satisfied with the facilities and service. Jon was accommodating and helpful during check in and I really appreciated it. Will come back next time I get to fly to Queenstown!

Clean room, clean kitchen, worth the extra bit of money over other hostels. I had a look at/stayed in several other hostels in queenstown and this one is the best. Location, cleanliness, good laundry prices, and the staff is very nice. It wasn't too busy as I visited during the shoulder season, so I got my own room in a 4 bed dorm, whereas other places like Adventure Q2 or Absoloot refuses to open a 4 bed dorm for just one person and tried to put me in a 8 or 12 bed dorm. I didn't want to stay with a bunch of other people in a room but Tahuna Pod hostel was quick to give me a room, no issue. The living room area is also very nice and clean. TV and everything. Needless to say, if I ever come again I'll be staying here again.

Thanks for the great cosy vibes AQ! My go-to for popping back to visit QT. Comfortable ensuite room with enough space. Very handy luggage storage and use of the amazing balcony on kitchen either side of my stay. Met lovely people in the communal areas and the quiz night was very fun! Theresa, Jackie Toby & Lelaina are all legends who make you feel relaxed and welcome. Thank you team - hope to see you again soon.

Such a beautiful place! Very clean, rooms are great with the privacy curtains and power sockets in the beds. Kitchen is very clean, plenty of space to cook and plenty of utensils and cookware. Living space is spacious and cozy, making socializing very easy. Staff are friendly and helpful, especially Timo. Would 100% stay again

Great location, and everything was clean enough for a comfortable stay, including the kitchen. My mattress was pretty old though—could feel the springs poking through. Got unlucky with a loud snorer, but that's just hostel life, not their fault. Tip: grab a coffee in the kitchen at sunrise. The view is really nice and worth getting up early for.

We had the best stay here!! We’ve been travelling around South Island and coming here felt so homey in comparison to where’s we’ve been. Everyone staying was super sociable and everyone working were so helpful, we felt super safe (so if you’re solo travelling, here’s the place to be). Chilled vibes but a crackin Quiz night by Elze - I’ve never been so excited to win (and drink) a bottle of wine! Lelaina, Toby and Jackie were always friendly faces to ask questions or watch Love Island with. All the rooms and social spaces were immaculately clean and we didn’t need a thing our whole stay. If we’d had more time we’d be staying longer!

I had a horrible experience at this hostel. Very rude staff and unwilling to help. They are always late to open reception. Their sign says open at 8:30 but I couldn’t get help until 10:30. Extremely unprofessional and their beds are awful. One of the coils from the mattress kept pinching my back so I didn’t get good sleep. Do not waste your time booking here. * I did stay here and where was your employee Saturday morning? I waited for two hours to get help and the guy was so rude and disrespectful.

Southern Laughter Backpackers, located centrally in Queenstown, is a casual hostel run by experienced travelers. The hostel offers simple dorms and private rooms with shared kitchens, lounges, and even an outdoor hot tub. Guests can enjoy stunning views of The Remarkables from the BBQ decks and indulge in free veggie soup every evening.
I loved this place. Super friendly staff, and simply overall nice people! The room was clean, and so were the amenities; they were on the older side, but everything worked and was clean. The location was great, close to everything; walking distance! They had a free of charge luggage storage area which was great as our flight was later at night. Also very cute dog behind the counter. We only stayed one night but i would definitely stay here again ☺️

Worst hostel I've ever stayed in, and I backpacked through the middle of Cambodia. There wasn't even a PowerPoint to charge your phone near the bed, and the other PowerPoint didn't work. Also, no curtains no privacy and no hot water. You are better off paying extra and staying elsewhere
Alex L — Google review
Worst hostel in the world. Don’t stay here ever. I’ve booked for 5 nights, only stayed 2. Management refused to refund the booking money, even after showing them bed bugs bites on my arm, hand and leg. After two weeks I still have marks on my body. Worst experience ever.
Alessandro L — Google review
The staff at the hostel are incredibly friendly and helpful, they were very welcoming when we checked in! As many have said, the facilities are on the older side. However, everything works and everything is clean—which is the most important. We stayed in the twin room which was close to the kitchen, bathroom and toilet. The location of the hostel is amazing, within a short 5 minute walk you’re in the centre of Queenstown. Overall, I think the hostel offers good value for what you pay for.
Aoife O — Google review
Everything was horrible apart from the location. This place is dated, dirty, and noisy. Besides the location, there is nothing positive about this place. Let's start with the room. Tiny, can barely stand a suitcase up and have enough room to walk around it. The pillows seemed so soft they lacked any density whatsoever. The blinds were roughed up and damaged so they didn't close properly, and the room faced the main road and the entrance, so no privacy at all. The entire place is made of cardboard, so you hear every little noise, and the international people who reside there are loud, slamming doors at all times of the night. The showers are freezing!! The first night, I couldn't get any hot water, the second night, 5 minutes of hot, then freezing. The toilet paper is the cheapest toilet paper they could find, I don't think you can even classify it as toilet paper. I went to heat something up in the microwave, and a pool of old yellow liquid sat in the bottom of it, disgusting. It's like the owners just don't care, they know people will come because it's Queenstown. I would rather sleep on the street than come back here. Owners need to take a drive up to Franz Josef and go see what Wild Kea Lodge is doing because that's how you run a backpackers.
Ben R — Google review
Not like in the pictures, this place was an absolute dump. The showers were filthy and smelled like mold, and the rooms were just as bad with stained sheets and towels. To make matters worse, inconsiderate guests made noise till late at night. The wifi didn't work at all, and when I complained to the staff, they were incredibly unhelpful. While the $50 savings compared to other hotels initially seemed like a good deal, I would gladly pay $150 more per night to avoid ever staying in this horrendous place again.
Ryan H — Google review
Never again. Arrived at reception 2.15pm, check-in from 2pm. No one at reception, called the three numbers provided - no answer for 10mins. Was told the guy from reception would be there in 30mins, he has a lunch break... very arrogant behaviour over the phone and when handing the keys. We needed to be on a booked activity shortly after. Room below average. Walls made of cardboard, you can hear everything. Shared showers (clean) with another room where long term occupants (presume backbackers working in QT) live. Wednesday night, big groups of drunk young people around the premises.
Patrik A — Google review
Pros: The staff on reception were great and the hostel seemed to have a relaxed and fun vibe. The location is great (under 5 mins from pretty much anywhere you could want to get to in Queenstown and right across from the cable car). Cons: I would not recommend staying here in winter - the hostel has very little insulation and although our room did have a small plug in heater it took a long time to warm up. The showers gave a trickle of hot water at best and were completely cold at worst. The hostel is generally quite run down, which isn't necessarily an issue in itself (we are used to backpacker-style accommodation) but along with the cold it made the experience a bit unpleasant. Overall it didn't feel like good value for money (we paid ~£70 for a double room with shared bathroom).

If you want to stay in a private room to avoid having to deal with other people talking and carrying on till all hours of the morning, this is NOT your place! The walls are PAPER THIN. The room I was in was number 10, and it's positioned next door to a shower/toilet combo, with an exhaust fan that's combined with the light, and sounds like an aircraft taking off when on. Anytime anyone uses the bathroom (at all hours), you get to listen to the aircraft. Another fabulous feature is that this particular bathroom is the first one - the rest are down some stairs further along. This means that everyone coming down from all the upstairs rooms to use the toilet during the night uses this one, as it's the closest. So you get woken up so often that you're lucky if you get more than an hour of unbroken sleep. The room also conveniently has a vending machine at your door and the wall with all the local information displayed. This allows you to be able to listen to everyone's conversations as if you're right in it with them, at all times of the night, when they decide to hang out deciding what they want at the vending machine or discussing the local activities and cars for sale. The 10pm-7am quiet time doesn't extend to room 10, bc it has all those facilities just outside the door! Additionally, it's located directly below the common area lounge room. Which is fantastic when people are in there having a wrestling match and shouting to each other until 5 am, bc with the paper thin walls, it's just like you're up in the room with them! To make it even better, the boys up there were misogynistic w⚓️ and the conversations I was part of through just trying to sleep in my room, made me very glad not to be staying any longer. Some positives about the Haka Lodge Queenstown: the room itself was clean and the bedding comfortable, the kitchen and bathrooms were always clean, it's conveniently located to the main centre and the staff were friendly. Overall, if you're looking to be in a dorm, it's probably a decent option. If you're looking to stay in a private room, I DO NOT recommend it. If you're going to, I recommend asking not to be in room 10!

I like the hostel however the wifi is awful, we’ve been here long term for 3 months and nothing has changed. The staff and manager are great, especially Rufus. Laundry and dryer being $12 feels very stiff. 2 showers are out of service at the moment which is more then frustrating and often we find our self waiting. Really love the vibe however, very homey and lovely people.

It's one of the best hostels I've ever been to! It's not too big or too small. The staff is amazingly friendly and the bathrooms and dorms are super clean. There was also a big selection of movie classics and a very nice sofa :)

Huge shoutout to Adam, Dave, Emma, James, and the other two staff whose names I can’t quite remember you guys are amazing. Thanks for everything!

The house and facilities were ok but not the room. I was a solo traveler in a 6 bed room. The room smells a lot. It was complicated to get on the top bed. The baking sheet was really bad. But in a really nice place, just in the center. Very nice welcoming.

I booked two nights but decided to move to another one of their hotels. The receptionist herself told me I would get a partial refund and even helped me cancel. Afterwards, they refused any refund and denied what their own staff had said, telling me “sorry you were misinformed.” Terrible customer service, zero accountability, and very misleading. Wouldn’t recommend. I could’ve basically stayed the two nights than having to pay again.

Nestled in the heart of Queenstown, Lylo Queenstown is a modern hostel that redefines comfort for travelers. With its innovative capsule-style dorms and private rooms, it caters to everyone from adventurous backpackers to families seeking a cozy retreat. Just a stone's throw from the stunning lakefront and vibrant nightlife, this hostel offers snug pods equipped with essential amenities like charging points and personal lockers. Guests can unwind at the rooftop café/bar or enjoy communal spaces designed for relaxation and socializing.
Cool place to stay! The staff are helpful and friendly. You can also check in and out by yourself using the tablets by the front desk, and just leave your key card there if staff isn't around. It was really quick and easy. The location is great, just a short walk from the waterfront, heaps of restaurants, shops, and the gondola just up the road. The common area on the top floor is cosy and nice. It's warm and comfortable inside. I slept in a 8 pod room. There's power points in the pod to charge your device and lockers under the bed to secure valuables. They have roller blinds for privacy in the pods. I did find that it doesn't totally block the light so I kept waking up during the night feeling like it's morning already, an eye mask could be a good idea if light easily wakes you like me. Also the door, lockers and edges of the pods are creaky, you can't be quiet even if you try, so other guests coming in late sounded quite noisy. Still, so much better than a regular bunk bed dorm, my days in those are over, I'm converted to the pods! Enjoyed my stay and would stay again!

If the only thing you care about in a hostel is having a bed with a curtain, then this place is for you. Because everything else is an absolute disaster. The kitchen is microscopic for over 60 rooms: no oven, just 8 stovetops and one lonely microwave. There’s no dining room; instead, there’s a bar on the fourth floor where you’re expected to eat whatever you cooked in the kitchen on the first floor… yes, three flights of stairs with your plate in hand, as if it were part of the fun. On my floor there were more than 10 rooms but only one sink in the bathroom. Incredible, right? And the cherry on top: by 6 p.m. the showers run out of hot water because the boiler simply can’t keep up. So get ready to “enjoy” a refreshing ice-cold shower in the middle of winter, on the house. Overpriced, uncomfortable, and terrible service. What a deal. I don’t recommend it.
Mayra G — Google review
Nice hostel located right on Shotover Street only a 5-minute walk from the main bus hub (C bus stand) where the airport transfer bus stops. Literally every activity is nearby since it’s in the heart of the city centre. I stayed in an 8-bed pod room. The hostel is cleaned daily, and the washrooms were always clean. Showers had gel provided which was a bonus. The pod itself was quite spacious ,I’m 6’2” and fit comfortably. The only downside is that there’s no ventilation in the rooms, which can make them a bit stuffy or smelly. Kitchen needs to be bigger and washroom should have atleast 2 sink as it gets crowded in morning .Apart from that, everything was good. Staff was prompt and friendly too. At $50 a night, it’s a great bargain. Highly recommend if you’re a solo traveller or with friends excellent location and value for money.

I was very disappointed with my stay at this hotel. The room was not properly cleaned when I arrived, with dust on the furniture and a strange smell in the bathroom. The bed was uncomfortable, and the sheets did not feel fresh. On top of that, the staff was unhelpful and rather unfriendly whenever I asked for assistance. The advertised “free Wi-Fi” barely worked, and the noise from the street made it almost impossible to sleep. Overall, this hotel did not live up to its description, and I would not recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable and pleasant stay.
Badadvice B — Google review
Absolutely god awful stay. First bed they put me in was dirty and had someone else's sweet wrappers in plus black spot under the mirror. People rolling joints in the rooms. No sense of community as with other hostels. One tiny kitchen meant to service the entire hostel so extremely busy constantly. Communal places suffocating and crowded. Construction works going on so very loud. No manager on shift the entire duration of my stay so no way to ask for a refund or cancellation. Gave me an extra key card for my room when I said I'd locked myself out without checking any of my details, anyone could easily gain access to any of the rooms. Friend experienced a violent drunk thst the hostel refused to move to another room. Absolutely abysmal service, couldn't recommend it less. Spend the extra few bucks to stay at somewhere lovely like Black Sheep Backpackers.
Christian L — Google review
I stayed here for 2 nights about a year ago. I chose this place because of the price and location — it’s more like a budget hostel. The room was very small and couldn’t really fit two large suitcases. If I had a bigger budget, I’d probably try staying somewhere else. Other than the convenient location, there isn’t much to highlight.
Teen S — Google review
pretty awful experience overall for what could be a nice place. the vacuum cleaner was being used at 8am in the breakfast area around me as I’m having breakfast, and running at about 7pm near the bedrooms, the kitchen is way too small and the whole place feels crammed and stressful. the rooms are heated way too high, and although the beds are comfy and the pods are private and nice, I won’t be returning to Lylo. the staff member wasn’t super responsive to my feedback, the check-in process feels pretty flawed, being impersonal and incomplete using a tablet with a staff member floating around near you.
Luke H — Google review
Hi, I'm staying here right now, and it really bothers me that some guests don't respect the privacy of others in the rooms. They talk loudly while someone is resting. Had a really great experience, the girls at reception were amazing and helped me with my bags, had a great experience :)

I couldn’t get a photo as we had roommates at the time but good god I’m never coming back out there. The sheets were not washed and the room was definitely not cleaned well. I was appalled by the shared kitchen, there were stacked food everywhere which was not organized and we couldn’t use it well and there were unwashed dishes too. Not only that but we were assured we can see a late check in form and that a key was readily available but when we get there, it wasn’t prepared; I had to make a call so we can get in. No parking space!
Isla J — Google review
Nice hostel, our dorm was quite clean, bathroom and toilets too. Good location (only 5-7min walking to town) but parking is very hard to find around the hostel! The guy at the reception was friendly and helpful. I recommend this place for your stay in Queenstown! 😊

Really nice hostel. Great location 5 minute walk from downtown, just have to climb a short hill. Pretty cheap compared to everything else in town. Super friendly and social, met lots of friends while I was there. You can go out to town with people all the time, there are events organized somewhat regularly. Rooms can get a little cold at night in the winter, but they are clean and comfortable.

For me, hippo lodge is the nicest hostel on the South Island so far. The manager is really friendly and looks after everyone like best friends. The atmosphere here is very family-like. We cook, bake and do lots of things together. It never gets boring here! The whole hostel is clean because it is cleaned every morning... the whole team is very helpful and the community is wonderful :) I have been here for over a month and plan to stay longer :)

What you hope a hostel would be and more. Affordable accommodation. The dorm room we stayed in was clean, had windows so good ventilation and good curtains. The kitchen was above average with 8 hobs and an oven. Plenty of storage for food, fridges freezers and for room temperature items. Added bonus was this hostel had an amazing view. One downside of this though is that from the town centre it’s quite a steep hill to the location. Overall would definitely come back again

LOVED MY STAY HERE!! Definitely more of a home rather than a hostel. Made some lifelong friends here and everyone hangs out together. A really social hostel, and I loved the events that Marta threw!! Great views, and lots of space. Would definitely stay here again!

I love hippo lodge!! For sure the best hostel in Queenstown:) Always clean, super friendly staff and great value for money. Most importantly this hostel is super sociable, with movie nights, ski days and nights out arranged by the gorgeous Marta. Would recommend 100%

Aspen Lodge Backpackers is a laid-back hostel in Queenstown, offering private or shared rooms with multiple kitchens, laundry facilities, and a TV lounge. It's conveniently located within 600 meters of Skyline Gondola and Luge. The property provides free WiFi and parking for guests. With accommodations ranging from mixed 10-bed dormitories to twin rooms with shared bathrooms, it's an ideal place for backpackers seeking tranquility.
Great stay. So close to the centre of Queenstown. Probably the cleanest hostel I’ve ever stayed in - the staff do an incredible job of keeping shared areas spotless. And… always warm. The 8 bed dorm rooms are a bit cramped and have no ladders to top bunk but 4 bed dorms are much more modern and spacious (curtains, charging points etc)

Nice backpacker ! The commune areas are cosy and the atmosphere is perfect to meet people. I've been welcolmed by Ariana, the manager, that is super friendly. I felt like at home. Two minutes walk from the down town and there are parkings !

It's just 5min from town which makes it less pricy. The quad pod room is really good, cause everyone has their own privacy. The bathroom is the best hostel bathroom I have ever seen and you can there is space inside and outside to sit.

A year ago, I visited Queenstown and I stayed at Aspen Lodge Backpackers. I stayed there for 2 days and 3 nights. The room was decent but the main thing that I liked about this accommodation is the staff. She was nice, sweet and friendly. I don’t know her name but I know that she’s Mexican. The view of the skyline is stunning from here.
Thirumalai R — Google review
My friend booked us into Aspen and so I had no preconceived ideas about the backpackers. It's a really great spot in the heart of Queenstown lovely and quiet and there's all the amenities that you need. The room was lovely and clean, everything as advertised. 5 minute walk from the heart of Queenstown you can't beat it in terms of convenience and I will definitely recommend it to friends and family

I had a good stay and let the staff know about some improvement suggestions. They were very friendly and receptive and I'll be back. Great location and close to everything you need. Cleanest hostel I've been to so far.

very clean! great location, and good price for a last minute booking. We got an indivdaul room, and the walls are very thin! could hear very convo our neighbours had and could even hear them opening food packets!. Beds were uncomfortable. we arrived late, hard to find the rooms, and whole layout is odd and difficult. But for a last minute booking the price, and cleaness was great!!

Very cheap hostel, so be ready. Bedrooms are not clean, the beds are okay, but there is just one outlet, so I hope you have an extra battery. Common area is nice and the kitchen is very decent. Staff is okay, except for one lady that it is very rude. She was kind of mean when my group and I decided not to buy tickets for doing Skydiving. Location is very good

Bathroom Towel Rail broken, Timber Venetian Blind broken on the last five ladders so there's no privacy, Toilet filthy alongside the toilet brush holder having p** visible on the holder, we had booked here for our stay and asked for a refund as it was completely different to the photos online, no refund given so we ended up booking another place to stay for our trip here. The staff member we dealt with was nice and it wasn't his problem when we mentioned it, it's a shame that who ever runs this place won't take on board the review s below as ours is only adding to the other complaints, main one being in clean. Wouldn't recommend to anyone.

What you would expect from a backpackers. We stayed in a single room with our own bathroom. The bed was really comfy. The room was a good size. We had beautiful views up on the third floor. Can definitely hear noises but that’s due to other guests and of course the bar downstairs although it was only super noisy on Friday/Saturday. Location is brilliant and the room is warm.
Jessica H — Google review
Ok so we stayed in the quiet winter season and the place was nice, very clean and I asked reception when our heater was going to come on because it was about 2pm and really chilly and the lady said 6pm so she then produced a little fan heater for me :) what a legend :). Really happy with that little touch. Kitchen is nice and clean too and not too busy. Down points are the shower pressure on the 3rd floor wasn't fantastic but it was nice and hot. Also the mattress really needed replacing as it's collapsed on one side from people getting in on one side over the years. Other than that I'm very happy :).
Carol A — Google review
The location of base was great being right in the centre and the staff were lovely but the hostel was poor. Club downstairs was very loud so you could hear it from you room. Rooms were super small and bunk beds very noise my hair was always getting caught on the bottom of the top bunk. The shower was the worst didn’t have setting so it was extremely hot and uncomfortable! Every washing machine was broken except one... seriously 1 washing machine for the whole hostel. Same went for the dryers! The kitchen is very dirty and poor. So yeah don’t rate base I wouldn’t stay again.
Tia R — Google review
Our private room was adequate. Check in was stressful but a nice man came to the rescue. He understands customer service. Got a knock on my door after I went to bed as a staff member wanted to change my bin at night. That was a new experience being woken for a bin change. I was also woken an hour later with an invite to drink downstairs at the club. The place seems to cater more towards party goers. When we left the next morning, there were still a few party goers chatting loudly on the street outside. Basically the party never ended so you may want to ask for a room facing the back. I liked the location.
Saz B — Google review
Excellent hostel! Reception staff were very informative. Very clean and has everything you need! Very comfortable beds. The rooms were nice and spacious. Great atmosphere in the bar, with extremely cheap drink deals. I made lots of friends! Would stay again :)

The communal kitchen provides a great space to whip up meals while soaking in stunning views, making it an ideal spot to connect with fellow adventurers.
Just stayed for one night in a double room with private bathroom. Check in was cery easy with clear instructions on access to front door after 10pm. Our room had all basic things you would need including clean towels and toiletries. We even had a nice view of the park and lake. Good value for money and had a good night sleep since the room was facing the quiet part of the street.

I stayed at the YHA Lakeside as well which is much better than Central. This place is great for its location, right in the center of town. The receptionist was awesome in getting me a deal with the Milford Sound Tour for me. Rooms are spacious and has individual bathroom and showers. The shower was hot and had good pressure. No charger port by bed, had to convene at the few available around the room. The kitchen can only comfortably have 2-3 ppl cooking at a time but had all the necessary cookware and utensils. Wifi was iffy for me and worked better closer to the lounge/kitchen. Open space dining, kitchen, and lounge area. Luggage room available. No lockers in room, located in a separate location and had to pay to use them. There's a balcony that overlooks the street which is cool.
Steph W — Google review
The worst accommodation I've ever stayed in. The room is very dirty and the toilet doesn't work. The water pressure in the shower is too weak. I can only see the wall when I open the window. Also, since there isn't an elevator, it was very hard to carry all my luggage upstairs to my room. It is an awful place to stay the night but the staff is kind and the location is good, so I give you one star. I want to go back to my sweet home.
Daseul K — Google review
The service and the location of the hostel are more than perfect. It's really hard to find a parking place in this area. We had to walk 1km from the car to the hostel. Little bit annoying but it is how it is. The Kitchen was really nice and the view from there was stunning! We had a three bed private suite which wasn't really nice. The bathroom was really old and the sink was hanging into the room. A little bit of pressure and it would fall completely of the wall. The bed was on wheels. This was a little disaster evertime when you sit in the bed the bed moved like half a meter from the wall away. We had to put stuff in front of the wheels. We fixed it but it really looked ugly. The view out of the window was a grey wall. The most annoying thing was the air system of the hostel. This machine was directly in front of our window and blew air the whole time with loud noises in the direction of our window. It was really loud. Even when we closed the window it was still hearable. So I have to give the room one star. For 90$ night really not worth it. :(
Jonathan S — Google review
Quality budget accommodation as the sign says out front! Earplugs on the bed for those snoring people in the dorms although we didn't need them and the place was very quiet. Staff are so friendly and helpful. Great budget deals on the board downstairs for discovering cheap deals in queens town. The kitchen has a fantastic view over the lake. Simple place but right in the heart of the action of the city. They also have luggage storage, laundry options ($4.50 per wash) and 24hr small supermarket right next door.
Sylvo M — Google review
Had a great stay here. The rooms were beautiful, we had a double and single bed with a courtyard. It was close to the city centre and places like the Queenstown skyline. Only downside is that the kitchen is only open from 6:30am-10:30pm but otherwise the staff were friendly. Bathrooms were good however cannot comment on the communal side of things as we had our own room.
Belle — Google review
Great hostel. We booked a private room with ensuite that happened to have a really nice little private patio as well, so it basically felt like we were staying in a full hotel. Only stayed here two nights but we would've been happy to stay for more. The communal kitchen is pretty standard but with a really nice view in the morning. Also the location is extremely central, the street is lined with bars and visitor/tourist type agencies where you can book activities. It's also a 2min walk to the lakefront. Only downside is there isn't really any parking nearby
Natassia B — Google review

Firstly and most importantly for me, the location is spot on. Literally a 3 min stroll into town. Rooms are comfy and maintained to a high standard. The owner is a top bloke and looked after us during our stay. Kitchen facilities are top drawer and the living area very spacious. with cracking views from the property. Check-in and out was very easy. Would highly recommend staying here!

Stayed in a private room, which was small but cozy. There was a heater inside and towels. The hostel itself is nice - it’s small and has a cute living room. However, it was very cold all day until a few hours in the evening when the wood fired heater was turned on by staff. This genuinely made it unpleasant to hang out outside of the room with the heater. Similarly, the bathrooms were freezing. Great location - close to town, with free parking on the premises and along the road.

Just finished a four day three nights holiday in Queenstown at Alpine Lodge Backpackers. We rented the top floor apartment at the lodge. The lodge is at a great location as we are only two minutes walk to town and five minutes walk to the Gondola. The rooms are clean and the beds are extremely comfortable. The lodge manager is friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. A great place to enjoy an awesome, chill out, Queenstown break. 👍

I cannot understand the negative reviews here! This is a very nice hostel. The staff was very chill and the atmosphere relaxed. I really liked that it was very quiet in the night even though it was fully booked and the rugby world cup final was on. Can strongly recommend staying there! The WiFi is very good too, if that is important to you.
Florian S — Google review
The service isn’t that bad, but the manager doesn’t know how to communicate, and that’s a big problem. He treats people like teenagers, which makes the experience at the hostel unpleasant if you’re over 25.
Jorge R — Google review
Dont stay here! Unfortunately Paul made our group feel extremely uncomfortable from the moment we arrived. It was almost as is he decided to make our lives hard as soon as we got there. He chose to text us with his issues rather than pop in and visit us, he assumed i would be on my phone all weekend (i don't spend my holidays on my phone). He entered our rooms without our consent and moved our belongings along with filming us. We were more than happy to leave by the third day. The accommodation was nowhere near the quality of what the photos show and I would not recommend anyone to stay here!

While the property shows signs of aging, it is well-maintained, with friendly staff ensuring cleanliness throughout.
What a truly special place! The team is incredibly polite and genuinely friendly without their help, my trip wouldn’t have been nearly as good. The car park is a real bonus, with heaps of spaces available, which makes things so much easier. For the price, it’s absolutely worth it. And last but not least, the view is simply one of the best in the city. Couldn’t recommend it more!
Marcos A — Google review
Affordable, but for a reason. If you are a backpacker and expecting that experience by all means this place is totally fine! The facilities are semi dated but still functional. I will say if you’re looking for a relaxing more comfortable holiday this isn’t the place, we arrived after our late flight and I had requested a late check in which was perfectly fine, we picked up some keys from the front in an envelope and that was fine, however getting to the lodge and the loft appartments is a hike. Very steep hills, and lots and lots of stairs, defiantly a place for a younger audience. Additionally, our room didn’t have any blankets in it? First night we also couldn’t find anyone at front desk so we slept under a single sheet and had to wear our clothes to bed. The airflow in the self contained rooms is really really bad. The room itself was fine, a bit crumby and dirty however. We had two seperate reservations for this and ended up canceling the second and staying with family which we were lucky enough to let us stay. Fine, just uncomfortable.
Tiia S — Google review
view was lovely! close to everything, massive hill to get up to the actual hostel tho. staff were very nice and very helpful. rooms were small, no amenities, stains everywhere, outlets at inconvenient places, the beds were incredibly uncomfortable we could feel every single one of the springs, the bathroom was tiny and the bins were oddly small. no forks or bowls in kitchenette.
Ruth V — Google review
Room are well equipped. There's a fridge, portable stove, microwave, kettle and everything you need. Location is good, parking is provided at 1st come 1st serve basis. However my room is at 3rd floor and no lift provided, thus if you bring an XL luggage, it will be a bit difficult!
Duha Y — Google review
First of all the positive: the towels are big, the view is nice and it is close to the city centre and its fairly clean. However, it started with our reservation which apparently wasn't a reservation but a pre-reservation. Having booked and payed via the website we assumed that our room would be available which we wanted. Why else would you have it available and confirmed that the payment went trough? In truth, that didn't happen. We ended up paying additionally at the reception for a different room. The big bed, was a hammock. The big bed was broken, the springs could be felt through the matrass. You automatically were rolled to a little dip. There are no nightstands so our glasses had to go on the ground? The sockets are weirdly placed. The shower is tiny. The cabinets were all fixed with a quick fix it up solution. If you turned on the tap the water would be launched out of the basins quicker than you could get out of there. The blinds were working but lights would come through. The walls are thin so noise and footsteps of your upstairs neighbours could be heard. People walking and talking at 3 4 and 5 am to their room even though there's a big sign to stay quiet after 10pm. The breakfast was very very limited. Your selection of choice of the bread is white or toasted. Your coffee: water and more water with coffee. The muesli, dry and old. I guess for backpackers it's completely fine? Oh and yes the hill is massive. Maybe not if you've had plenty enough to drink.
N B — Google review
The place is cool with teenagers partying all night, but not cool with us doing our kids washing in the unlocked laundry (that is willing to take our money) as it’s ’too loud’ lol. Super loud, pretty dirty, gorgeous views tho. Definitely wouldn’t stay again but the young people look like they are having fun, so if you just want a place to sleep and don’t care about hygiene/noise/general wellbeing then this is the place for you! Some staff dude yelled at my kid for trying to open an unmarked door too, that was weird.
Candice K — Google review
I am very disappointed with this accommodation. We planned to travel Queenstown and booked this accommodation for our stay 5 nights in total. But due to medical reasons I was advised not to fly by my doctor for couple of months. Unfortunately we had to cancel our trip, Jetstar airline also refunded on compassionate grounds provided medical certificate but this accommodation were too rigid and refused to cancel or change dates or provide credit/voucher for future travel, I requested and was ready to provide medical certificate requested to deduct some amount and refund or if refund isn't possible provide me with a future credit or change of dates they were not willing to adjust or change anything not even when there is a medical reason. Its very disappointing.
Ruby B — Google review
I had a really disappointing experience with this accommodation. I booked a stay for the Queenstown Marathon — my first international trip — and unfortunately suffered a stress fracture in my shin before travelling. My doctor advised me not to fly or even walk, so I contacted the property to explain and asked if there was any possibility of a refund or credit. Their response was incredibly cold and dismissive. They showed zero empathy or understanding, simply repeating that they “have a strict policy” and suggesting I should have purchased travel insurance. There was no flexibility, no goodwill, and no attempt to even partially assist. To make things worse, they require full payment upfront at the time of booking, with no option to pay a deposit — so when something unexpected happens, you’re just out of luck. I wouldn’t recommend booking here to anyone. If anything goes wrong or you have an emergency, don’t expect compassion or customer service — just a cold “too bad.”

We did the Self Drive Guided Buggy Tour and it was amazing fun! 5 minutes out of town the location is incredible with views up over Queenstown and Shotover river. Well looked after by our guide Diego who was a terrific bloke and made our 7 year old son feel right at home. Enough training to feel safe and comfortable without being over the top so you really got plenty of time to get out on the tracks and have some fun! Courses were great with a mix of hills, mud, corners and bush driving. You really got to test out the buggies! Suspension in them is pretty incredible as you felt comfortable despite the terrain and they fitted you out with all the gear. Great for all ages! Highly recommend and would 100% do again!

Absolutely the highlight of our recent trip to NZ!! We did the family quad biking and had a blast. Diego was an awesome instructor and made sure we had the best time. We finished off with a ride in the buggy to the top of the mountain, more fun then a roller coaster and stunning views from the top. Will definitely be visiting again, highly recommended!!

Sam, Diego and Scott were exceptional making our Queenstown quad biking experience fantastic! What I loved was that Sam taught us the correct quad biking technique and skills we can take with us for when we quad bike next. The team were savvy in assessing our skills (without making anyone feel uncomfortable) and grouped us together, matching our ride track to our ability so we could ride with confidence. We had so much fun and loved it! This wasn’t just a ride on a gravel path, we got to test our skills and for those in our group who were experienced, they really challenged them on great tracks! This is 5 star gold all the way! Thanks for an awesome experience!

Very impressed!! A good friend and I recently took part in a ride that I’ll never forget. We booked a half day trip through Skippers Canyon under the guidance of Scott and the team at Dirt Bike Tours in Queenstown. This was my second visit to Queenstown and, being an Aussie country boy, I was eager to slip away from the more touristy areas and seek out some of New Zealand’s stunning natural beauty. Well we sure picked the week for it… non-stop rain in the lower lying areas, good snow fall up high, many land slides reported and weather warnings for wind gusts reaching >130kph. It seemed every activity around had been cancelled, along with all the flights, and I thought our bike ride would be too, However, I was wrong! We met Scott in Queenstown, who jumped out of his car wearing Moto X boots and looked so excited to get on the bikes and have a great time. To be honest, I had a lot of concerns at this point and wanted to know the logistics and safety measures in place… I love adventure but I’ve also got a mortgage to pay. After a good conversation and briefing I could tell this was a professional setup. Scott outlined the gear they would provide to keep us warm and protected, the abundant route options to cater to the conditions and our skill level, the safety gear he would carry in the case of an emergency and the vast experience and knowledge he has of the area. Additionally, the Yamaha’s we rode were in great condition and having the option of a 250 or 450 allowed us to choose our riding style for the day…. Lots of playful revs and gear changes or good old fashion power and lazy torque! Before we set off Scott puts our doubts at ease and guaranteed we would both have a great time….. and I’m very happy to say he was right! Our experience was everything I was looking for in a good adventure/enduro ride. We traversed remote beautiful landscapes and challenged our riding abilities without ever feeling like we were in danger. Scott is a great rider and was able to gauge our abilities quickly, setting a pace that was fun but never pushed us beyond our capabilities. This pace allowed me to follow his lines and watch how he navigated fast flowing water and obstacles on track, helping me to learn some new tricks as we rode. The biggest challenge I faced during our ride was trying to keep my eyes on the track, the scenery is simply amazing! We saw snow capped mountains scattered with wild goats that led down into deep gold rich rivers that still held many relics from the gold rush era. Best of all, we didn’t see any large buses full of tourists pushing in front of us to get a selfie while throwing up a peace sign… we only had the howling wind through the canyon and the roar of rushing water down the swollen river. At the end of our ride we had smiles from ear to ear and had created so many great stories that you’d need at least a few beers to retell properly! The hardest part now is trying to organise another trip back to Queenstown so we can jump on one of their multi day tours and see more of what the beautiful South Island has to offer. It’s an enduro/adventure riders paradise!

My wife and I did the ATV and four-wheel Honda buggy tour in New Zealand, and wow - it was an absolute blast! This was our first time on an ATV, so naturally, we were a little nervous. Enter Sam, our guide and instant comedy relief. He not only taught us the basics but also sprinkled in hilarious jokes that had us laughing so much we almost forgot we were supposed to be driving! His tips were small but incredibly helpful - we actually realized their value the moment we hit the trails. We had booked a one-hour ATV tour, and by the time it ended, we were grinning from ear to ear. But Sam noticed we were having such a good time that he spontaneously offered us a buggy ride up to the top of the mountain. Let me tell you, it was epic! He drove us carefully, suggested the best spots for photos, and even captured some amazing shots himself. Honestly, he made us feel like celebrities on a scenic adventure movie. The experience was thrilling, safe, and completely unforgettable. From zipping over hills to enjoying panoramic views, every moment was pure fun. Sam’s enthusiasm, humor, and attention to detail transformed what could have been just another tourist activity into one of the best adventures of our lives. If you’re in New Zealand and looking for off-road excitement, ask for Sam - he’ll make sure you leave with sore cheeks from laughing and memories that last a lifetime. P.S. Don’t worry if you’re a total newbie like us - Sam has the patience of a saint. And trust me, even if you’re convinced you’ll crash into a tree (or each other), by the end, you’ll be high-fiving your spouse and wondering why you didn’t do this sooner!

The self-driving buggy tour with Lachie was an amazing experience! Lachie made everything super chill and easy to follow, so I felt confident the whole time. The scenery was unreal and honestly, one of the best ways to spend a day! Definitely doing it again!

If you are going to do something in Queenstown you need to experience an Off-Road Buggy Adventure with Diego driving!!! Diego took us on an adventure in the hills, saw great views, through water (my personal favourite) and an adrenaline ride you will never forget. In all the things I have done in Queenstown this is the best money I have ever spent. Diego was absolutely awesome and a fully experienced driver that knew what he was doing and we fully trusted him. He was so much fun. We got some fabulous photos, videos and a shared experience my friends and I will treasure. A must for you to do!! If we could do a 10 star review we would.

Sam, Bass and the rest of the crew were amazing! We had a lot of fun, saw some beautiful scenery and learnt lots of skills for quad bike control. We were provided with a jacket, pants, gumboots and gloves that we wore over the top to keep the mud off our clothes which worked very well. The quads are in good condition, run smoothly and are well maintained with good brakes. The team are very focused on safety, quickly getting everyone in the group to a point where they could safely negotiate the varied terrain. I took my 13 year old son along; he and I had such a good time we'll go back again. They don't only do quad bike tours; well worth checking them out. Thanks lads!

Melbourne Lodge is a casual hotel with simply decorated quarters, offering a hot tub and stunning lake views. It's an affordable option with private rooms that are great for solo travelers or couples. The lodge provides free breakfast, WiFi, and off-street parking. Guests can enjoy shared facilities like bathrooms, kitchen, lounge, and sundeck. The spacious rooms feature large windows showcasing the beautiful landscape.
We rented the studio with the kitchenette. We were pleasantly surprised by how well equipped the kitchenette was. The studio was very cleaned and well furnished which made our stay very comfortable. The staff is very friendly and willing to help out. The hotel is on top of the hill which can make the walk back quite steep, however the view from the room was worth the walk!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I cannot recommend Melbourne Lodge in Queenstown highly enough – it was absolutely perfect! From the moment we arrived, the experience was nothing short of exceptional. The rooms were spotlessly clean and well-kept, which instantly made us feel comfortable and at home. The location couldn’t be better – just a short walk to the heart of Queenstown, yet tucked away enough to enjoy peace and quiet when you want it. What really set Melbourne Lodge apart, though, was the staff. They were absolutely amazing – warm, welcoming, and always going above and beyond to help with anything we needed. Their friendliness made the whole stay even more memorable and gave the place such a positive, inviting atmosphere. Everything about our stay exceeded expectations. If you’re coming to Queenstown, this is the place to stay. We’ll definitely be back – 10/10! I honestly cannot understand any of the bad reviews that are on Google. I stayed here for a week and it was absolutely amazing in every way.

First night, i need a good nite rest. Paid almost SGD100 for a 3m by 3 m room. But the room has a basin and mirror, 6 electric sockets. Lots of hanging facilities. Wall-rack for luggage. Well thought out concepts. Bathroom and toilets are placed to be shared by few rooms’ occupants. I think the shower could be bigger. The guest lounge has a beautiful view. Parking can be horrendous when u get inconsiderate residents.

We stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment with balcony, spacious enough for our family, glad we could check in at 2pm and we're able to find parking as well. However, the accommodation could do with a bit of renovation and change of carpets.
Rose S — Google review
Easy and flexible check in with excellent customer service. Room was comfy, clean and spacious with a nice bathroom and fast wifi. Laundry and ski gear/luggage storage on site as well which was handy. Highly recommended.
Max A — Google review
I recently stayed one night at Melbourne Lodge Queenstown, and it was the worst accommodation experiences I’ve ever had. The room I checked into bore absolutely no resemblance to the photos advertised on Booking.com—it was a complete bait-and-switch, feeling like a deliberate attempt to mislead and deceive customers. The issues started as soon as I stepped into the hallway outside my room. There was a constant dripping sound, and the carpet was soaked with standing water. Every step I took squelched, which was not only unpleasant but also a safety hazard. To make matters worse, when I tried to take a hot shower in winter Queenstown, I waited ages for even a trickle of warm water. And when it finally came, the flow was so weak it barely qualified as a "shower"—more like a slow drip. It was frustrating and completely unacceptable for any paid accommodation. Save your money and avoid this place. False advertising and unlivable conditions make it a total rip-off.
Haoyuan X — Google review
We had a room with a twin and a queen. It had its own bathroom. Our room had a fridge and kettle. The carpet is worn. Housekeeping made the beds and dumped the trash each day, but did no other cleaning. The kitchen lounge had a bad smell to it. It had a portable electric skillet to use for cooking. There is a fridge in the lounge. The lounge is freezing. I had to wear a coat to cook the food. There is a microwave and toaster oven in the lounge. WiFi was great. There is a parking lot and we always found parking and hotel was sold out. Reception is available 8am-6pm. During our stay, there was an electrical issue in some rooms and they had no hot water or power. The technician was fixing it within a day of us smelling the electrical fire. We also saw the plumber declogging the communal shower. The washing machine was broken with no timeline of fixing it. Not sure if it ever works!!! The hotel is very quiet. We never heard our neighbors or people above us. I would not stay here again. It is much cheaper than other hotels, but it isn’t as nice. It is a 10 minute walk down a hill to town.
Sherry W — Google review
Comfortable, quiet, and warm. All 3 things I look for in a place to stay when out of town. I had originally booked for 2 nights, but only stayed one night due to an urgent matter back in Invercargill. Checking in, not a problem. The gentleman at the front counter advised me that they had upgraded my room booking. His manner towards me was fantastic. The room was spacious, clean, had a coffee/tea making facility, and a nice clean bathroom/toilet ensuite. The TV has quite a few Sky channels that aren't found on most other motels. The heatpump was efficient and had no problem when the outside temperature was -1 degree. :) I highly recommend this accommodation.

Garden Court Suites & Apartments is a relaxed apartment hotel that offers simple yet comfortable units, some of which come with balconies or patios and offer stunning views of the lake. Guests have praised the peaceful rooms and the overall value of their stay. The property is conveniently located in Queenstown City Centre, close to popular attractions such as Skyline Gondola and St Josephs Parish.
We stayed for 4 nights in this apartment it was great. The bed very comfortable, bathroom clean with heated towel racks. The kitchenette had everything we needed. The living area was separate to the bedroom and gad a fining table which was much appreciated. The views from the balcony were lovely and of the opposite mountain and golf course. Would definitely recommend this accommodation. Also included washing machine and dryer in apartment which was useful.

Ordered a studio and got upgrade to two bedroom with balcony. Totally worth the price! Great location as u can walk to town easily. The reception staffs were friendly and helpful! Nice clean rooms. Theres no heaters in any room. Washing machines and dryers are outside and u need coins to use them. They come in and empty ur bins daily. Overall highly recommend for the price and location!

I stayed for eight nights, and my experience was absolutely wonderful. From the moment I arrived, the staff were kind and welcoming. Before my stay, I made a request, and it was handled quickly and efficiently, which I truly appreciated. The room was outstanding—spacious, spotless, and equipped with all the facilities I needed. Everything worked perfectly, and I felt completely comfortable throughout my stay. The location is ideal, just a 10-minute walk from the city centre, and the view fromrhe living room was breathtaking. I loved having breakfast each morning while admiring the beautiful mountain scenery. I’m deeply grateful for the hospitality and care I received during my stay. Every detail made me feel at home. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the area and will definitely return in the future!

This place is pretty great. Perfectly great in many ways. The room is just nice and comfortable for us to rest and sleep. The surrounding of the room is very clean. Also, the distance to travel to the town centre is about 10 mins walk. Near and strategic location to be at. Second visit (18/5-21/5) Came here again for another stay. Great and pleasant stay like the first one (above). The staffs (Katy, Chloe, Hannah and Rinne) are very nice, hospitable and friendly people towards the hotel guests. Two thumbs up to them as they truly deserved it. Again, thank you Garden Court Suites & Apartments team

We stayed in Two Bed Courtyard for 3 nights. I like: 1. Bed is firm and pillows are fluffy. I slept well here. 2. Great location. The apartment is close to bus stop and town center. 3. Having a Jacuzzi in the bathroom is really amazing. And the hair conditioner! 4. The kitchenware and appliances are just what we needed. There’s even a rice cooker! 5. There’s a drying rack in the apartment if you don’t want to spend $4 on dryer. I dislike: 1. Spa pool is under maintenance for they-are-not-sure-how-long. This maintenance is not mentioned the website. 2. The nonstick frying pan is totally worn out and the coating is coming off. 3. Although most parts of the apartment is clean, vents in the bathroom and toilet are covered in dust. 4. There’s only 1 heater on first floor. No heater in the both bedrooms. 5. It took more than an hour to heat up the water after two people took a shower. It’s just ridiculous……
Li-Chen L — Google review
Room was warm and tidy. Bed was not made with the room service and dishes not replaced with clean. Otherwise was fine for our stay and the location was great.

The rooms were average but was good to have a spa bath in the apartment. Location was 10mins walk from the city centre

Qbox Motorhome Queenstown is a great campsite with convenient access to the town, making it easy to explore without worrying about parking. The site offers essential facilities such as hot showers, clean toilets, and WiFi, although the latter may not be reliable everywhere on the grounds. Despite this, the staff are accommodating and ensure a pleasant stay. Its location is ideal for accessing the town's attractions and nightlife. While not luxurious, it provides practical amenities for campers at an affordable price.
Good value for money ! You get what you expect for the price. We stayed 2 nights with a campervan on a non-powered site. The showers are hot, the kitchen is very nice ! Great location, 20min walk from city center :) would stay here again !
Le E — Google review
Found this place last minute and it was great for an overnight stay. We arrived after the reception closed and the after hours check in was easy and straightforward. We received an email prior to arriving with all the information required to pull up in our motorhome without needing any further assistance. The spot was perfect by the creek and the sound of the creek flowing at night was soothing. The facilities are made from containers and are all well maintained and adequate in function. The kitchen had all the items required. The downside here is the stove was below average to cook on and there’s no extractor fan so the smoke alarm kept going off. The camp does have a backpacker feel but If you’re after somewhere to stay for a night or two then this is a great place. Its nestled beside the mountain with great views and It’s only about 20mins walk into the centre of town which makes it ideal.
Vanessa Y — Google review
Good location, quiet and near city Center. Only problem was the uneven surfaces, to get in with the motorhome was a bit of a hassle because of potholes that made the way in very bumpy. Also get really slippery after rainy weather, I even slipped when walking out my caravan.
Guilherme O — Google review
Super convenient location and nice kitchen/lounge. Main issue for me was a loud electrical thrumming on all night and once you woke up it was difficult to fall asleep again. A shame because they had a nice stream sound as well but was overpowered. Seemed our spot though was double booked as someone was there already and stayed another night. So it was good we came a bit earlier to get sorted out with another spot.
Hana J — Google review
We were slightly apprehensive to book after reading the reviews but I’m really not sure what the problem is! It’s a very affordable campsite, especially by Qtown standards. Check in is easy, the lounge is lovely and warm, which is what we needed for the cold winter evenings. The kitchen is small but has everything you need. There are working backpackers living there long term but I really don’t see what the problem is with that. They’re all very friendly and keeping to themselves. Showers were hot and bathroom was clean, albeit the bathroom could do with some better ventilation system. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again
Jennifer R — Google review
All Holiday park in town was fully booked so i chose this campsite as only option in Queenstown. If I had reviewed those comments, I would hv booked other town’s holiday park. It’s just a nightmare to me, with dirty, old, messy kitchen and toilets. I dont think i parked into a campsite, it’s rather like parking into undeveloped gravel road and place for homeless. my 7.2m long campervan was hardly parked inside although my best driver finally did it. Fortunately, i still can cook and toilet in my car.
ANN W — Google review
Quirky campsite with amenities, kitchen dining/lounge room set up in Sea-tainers which works well showers a bit tired but plenty of hot water. sites available listed on the office door as it doesn't have someone there all the time, we booked so ad a great spot easy to get in and out. due to the bad weather expected (we were there in October) we left a day early and advised the manager who refunded the site cost, we did not expect refund.. Park close to bus to get into Queenstown altho is walkable.
Lindy B — Google review
Great site and value for money, easy check in and good communication! Toilets and kitchen a bit run down but there’s hot showers and everything you need in the kitchen. A 20 min walk into town which is very handy too considering it’s expensive to park in town.

Bumbles Backpackers in Queenstown offers a vibrant and colorful hostel experience with bright rooms and dorms, along with stunning views of the lake. The hostel's prime location by the lakefront provides guests with breathtaking scenery to enjoy from elevated areas designed for relaxation. Visitors appreciate the clean and quiet rooms, as well as the friendly and helpful staff who organize social events like BBQs for guests to mingle. The receptionist is noted for being accommodating, making sure that guests have a pleasant stay.
Clean rooms, quiet location compared to the other hostels in Queenstown. Staff was very kind, helpful and always in a good mood. They even threw a BBQ for everyone which allowed me to meet several people. Common area was comfortable to relax or mingle as well as a large kitchen for everyone to use. I had a pleasant stay and I would definitely recommend Bumbles for a good hostel. I plan on staying again next I am in Queenstown.
Ryan M — Google review
First: The place is really clean and it's a great location but I just didn't like the facilities and athomsphere. The rooms don't have enough space, shelves, sockets for everyone same for the kitchen. It is too small, there is hardly cutlery, not enough pots, pans and it's quite dirty as no one cleans after themselves. There is not enough space for food and not enough tables, chairs for eating. Also there could be more toilets added to the ones in the rooms. Many people that stay longer/work and when entering the room you feel like being guest in someones rooms..like visiting a boarding school where everyone has his place. For a person on a short stay not a place to feel good.
Jessica R — Google review
Really nice hostel. The staff is friendly and really help you when you need and give you information about what there is to do in Queenstown. The kitchen is big and you have space and everything you need. There maybe are not enough tables to eat. The shared room with sofa and pouf was really nice. The room was big enough for 4 and the shower and toilets in the room and always clean.
Marion S — Google review
Location is great, but sadly a big disappointment otherwise and overpriced for what it was. Private rooms are inside dorm rooms, which would be OK if there were enough facilities for all 10 people to share. One sink (within the one-shower room) meant a 35minute wait just to wash hands or brush teeth. Really should look into it given the number of similar reviews about this.
Laura P — Google review
The rooms are set up such that 8 people share one bathroom, and there's no way to access other bathrooms. The bathroom itself was smelly and the toilet room didn't have soap. The kitchen was also locked before 7:30am so we couldn't cook or have coffee in the morning. All in all, it was not a pleasant or especially clean place to stay. I understand that it is in a touristy area, but at 80 NZD a night for what it was, it was really not worth it.
Lauren P — Google review
I was really disappointed by this hostel: the communal kitchen was small and both counters and dishes dirty. There was no storage place in the room (8bed) and the electrical outlets were a scarce resource. On the other hand, the beds were okay and it's a nice location. --I recommend looking into YHA Backpackers Lakefront, it's a 5min further from the city, but everything is better, you won’t be disappointed (I tried both 5 days apart)
Louis-Simon G — Google review
Small room! If you have a big luggage, you need to prepare to do some exercises, many many stairs!!!! Not enough car park, if you have a car, you may need to park off road. Location is good, WiFi is good too. However, I won’t recommend to stay here and will not to rebook it again.
Hillwood R — Google review
Average backpackers. Good mattresses on beds good location (if you want to be near downtown but not above/ beside a loud bar or pub) and good views. Warm and dry Friendly staff Free unlimited wifi Laundry only available between 3pm and 9pm = inconvenient. Common room and kitchen a bit small for number of people. Kitchen could deffinitely use more storage and better stocking of utensils etc. There were 8 of us in the dorm room with only one shower/ toilet room - not a big issue if there was access to common toilet or something somewhere else but there wasn't so that was super inconvenient. Room only had 2 outlets (8bed dorm)

Cosy hotel with spacious rooms/comfortable bed. Doesn't quite scream "5 star" with small bathroom and no lift. Quiet location with a short walk down the hill to city centre. Plenty of parking on site or off street available. Breakfast was simple but adequate. Staff were friendly didn't quite explain much about the hotel or surroundings. Appreciated the welcome bottle of Pinot noir.
Nicholas N — Google review
My initial thought when making the booking was the price was a bit more than other central Queenstown hotels I've stayed at, but I put it down to being such a last minute booking. When we arrived though I was genuinely blown away by the place. The rooms were great, views beautiful, but it was all the other small details, a large lounge, bar, lots of free stuff, a free, fully catered evening happy hour, Excellent breakfast buffet, fully included in the room cost. My only gripe was no bacon! All staff I met culdn't have been more friendly and helpful. Everything was really above and beyond. Will 100% go back

Kitsch and friendly hotel, close to central cbd. Great staff, lovely to have an included happy hour and the breakfast options were sufficient. Only downside was the duvet we had had blood stains on it and would have expected housekeeping to vacuum if remaking beds and refreshing towels.

I stayed for 8 nights in preparation for a retreat that I'm hosting here next March. Everything surpassed my expectations. The location is perfect, and a peaceful 5 minute walk to Lake Wakatipu. The rooms are eclectic and artsy, and very comfortable. The thing that makes this place the best is the staff, especially Sascha. She has gone above and beyond not just for my current trip, but for my events for 2026. I can't wait to bring my guests here and have them experience the magic. Thanks!!!

There were things to like about this small hotel, in particular staff were kind and professional, breakfast good, generous touches, location near the park and centre excellent. However, I didn’t have a good stay. First, it was incredibly loud in the precinct until 4am (a Saturday night). Second, despite having a French door, you couldn’t leave it open because it led to a public space - and without a window that meant no fresh air. So I woke up really tired which for me is a dealbreaker. The room also felt a little tired, not 5 star certainly. And arriving to an unstaffed hotel from 6pm was strange too.

The stay at Browns Boutique Hotel was absolutely magnificent. The Kiwi hospitality was apparent! The room was comfortable and warm. The staff were friendly and assisted with every need. The breakfast every morning was prepared with love and care. Peter-Ray, the owner, went above and beyond!! He suggested restaurants that were clearly 5 star consisting of local fare. My son and I will not hesitate to stay with our Kiwi family again. Gratefully, Ann Marie and Andrew

Would absolutely recommend Browns when staying in Queenstown! When we first arrived we were welcomed by the extremely friendly staff, Angelo and Sky. Each morning we were greeted by a lovely and fresh continental breakfast. The hotel is within walking distance of everything but far enough away that it is quiet and peaceful at night. Angel and Sky were kind enough to store our luggage during our backpacking trip and even offered if we didn’t to do laundry when we got back. Exception service, great location, lovely accommodations, what more could you want?!

YHA Lakefront is a highly-rated hostel with a price range of $54 to $61. It is currently undergoing renovations, so prices are not available after October 2023. The hostel boasts a beautiful location and excellent facilities such as a spacious kitchen, comfortable lounge, large dining room, and washing/drying rooms. The staff is known for being competent and accommodating. While some guests found the rooms to be a bit stuffy and missed having coffee included, they still considered it great value.
