No need to pay for entry if you don’t want to, go up, absolutely stunning view from the top of the path!
Lovely views. A must do walk if you're on the island, especially as it's so close to Hvar town centre. There's a nice variety of Cacti on the walk, one of which was flowering.
If you plan to visita spanish fortress, please do it by walking the path. Views are incredible
Very nice path. The location is perfect and easy to find. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes because the way up is a bit steep.
It's fairly worth it to go up the hill to enjoy the view of the city.
Very nice view of Hvar, highly recommended.
Very nice concrete path up to the Spanish fortress with great views of Hvar port. Easy for kids to do - although not recommended for a post-swimming walk if yours are easily tired. 🙃 It’s in direct sun on late afternoon.

We had a great onward speed boat ride (Blue Shark company). The blue water caves were wonderful. The return boat ride was too bumpy and the skipper would not reduce speed hoping it would make the ride enjoyable
10 years ago it was one of the nicest area of the part of the Adriatic. Today it is an overcrowded over priced area. Some bays looks like the Tokyo metro in rush hour. Prices are in the sky. Of course the Hvar is very near which is an exiting a beautiful town but overtourism is serious.
Many great places ideal for swimming
(Translated by Google) Croatia's paradise, right in front of Hvar. I recommend renting a private boat (it cost us €100 per day) to explore all the islands at your own pace. I especially recommend the Karma Beach and Palmizana area (both Palmizana Beach and Perna Beach, both are a). There are several bays where you can swim in turquoise, crystal-clear waters. Nicest owners, thank you Armina for calling the boat taxi! Try their wine, they have been there for 10 generations, it is the best I have ever had! Seriously buy a glass!
We had an amazing time at Villa Benedeta! The house is gorgeous and spacious and clean with plenty of room for our party of 7. The hosts are especially lovely, helpful, and warm. Food in their cafe was fresh caught or home grown and some of the best meals we had on Hvar!
Very nice host lady, we purchased some wine from her, she was so sweet, Brought us a chair to sit on the beach and offered us refreshments.
The food deserves less than 1 star. Lack of ingredients, no taste.. I’m actually sorry I didn’t take a photo…. I would rather be hungry than eat there again…
Best wine and best deal on Hvar

A gorgeous and quiet beach with extremely clean, blue sea water. Good idea to bring some sort of shoe to wear into the water because the pebbles are a bit uncomfortable to walk on. Only 10 euros for the return boat taxi from Hvar town. So glad I did this and would recommend to anyone!!
Lovely island. Beach is shelving rock, not sand, but ok. Good swimming. Bar among the trees. All is naturist - see my pics, but when we were there a lot of people stayed dressed, despite the notice. A pity.
A lot of creeps. Please be careful especially with your kids there.. Basically, it is a nice island with nudist beach but quite inappropriate behaviour. Not because of nudity of course, but because of exhibitionism. My experience; we had a guy that sat right behind us naked and he was spreading his legs in a very suggestive way, shortly after, he started to touch himself... Another guy had a full on boner near the beach where people swim and just stood there with his towel (not even hiding it) waiting for people to come out of the water to show them his boner. He then sat right next to the rock watching people come out of the water nude.. with his boner. People don't seem to care but better watch out. It was very unpleasant..
Paradise on earth. It’s basically one small island with one bar so it’s very peaceful. You can hike a bit around too. Frequent taxi boats bringing you back to Hvar town. Photo from September 2022.
Wow what place, beautiful beach 🥰
Basically Paradise Lost in the flesh. An amazing place and a Pakleni island that is worth visiting, with its tropical views and beaches of white pebbles. Perfect for snorkeling.
Love swming nacket and atmosfere there. Beautifull beach. Nice bar. Nice people. Must koming back! :) :)

Mass times are hard to come by on the web. As of September 2025 Sundays Cathedral 10:00 and 19:30 Benedictine Convent 07:00 Franciscan Monastery 11:00
I gave it only one star because I think that a church should not have an entrance fee in order for you to go in it. I think it is ridiculous to think that you need to pay in able for you to pray on the church. I do admit that the inside of the church was really beautiful and although I do not have any proof of it because there was a sign on the entrance saying that taking of photos and videos inside of the church was forbidden because they claim that it was a holy place but for me it was less holy because I think it is wrong to have an entrance fee on any chuch. I paid for the entrance fee and on my way out, I also donated money. By the way, the reason I have one picture of a section of the inside of the church is I saw another lady tourist taking pictures and no one was reprimanding her so I took a picture of the real reason why people go to the church, it is because of Him, the sole reason why we go to churches. I think He is disappointed with the idea of entrance fees before you can enter the church even if the entrance fee was only 2 Euros. Not to brag but just ro make a point, I donated more than 2 Euros to this church on my way out. That is because I believe that there is no one bigger than Jesus and you can bet that He loves you yeah4x.
The cathedral is beautiful from the outside, but there is nothing exciting inside. You also have to pay 2€ to enter.
In the heart of Hvar, on the main square, this imposing building commands the view at the end. I was disappointed that photos were forbidden. I understand during a Mass it is disrespectful to take pictures, but entering as a tourist, I like to take pix to show friends, especially other Christians, what churches in different countries are like. Other reviews mention paying an entrance fee but we paid nothing on a Sunday evening (7pm) in September.
Ticket is 10 HKN but you can’t go up the tower. Might be more of a thing for people with a better knowledge of Christian history. Otherwise not much to see inside.
Interesting look from outside, but I don't remember too many countries where you need to pay to enter church! 10kn entrance, and I dont see that there is anything special to see
The church of Saint Stephen is a beautiful church on the main square of Hvar town. If you spend any time in Hvar town, you’ll see it. The bell tower and exterior/facade are iconic. It costs only 10 Kuna per person to enter, but you can’t take pictures inside the church. However, the inside has alters, niches, and chapels with lovely green, red, and black marble. Overall, worth the 10 Kuna and 20 minutes that it takes to have a look inside.
Lovely. Certainty worth a drop in. 20 Kruna admission. The 4th church built on the sight it holds an interesting past.

A great place for rest and soul where you can breathe in 500-3000 years old history. In the garden, there is a beautiful tree over 500 years old, which, with its splendor, once again reminds everyone that the preservation of nature is the most important thing. Swimwear and party clothes are not allowed in the monastery/museum.
Havar Island is about an hour by boat from Split. A round trip takes almost a full day. The restaurants on the island are very expensive — over 100 euros — and not really worth it.
Holy place. Would be a great for pilgrimage but just next to a beach so many naked/ semi naked bodies outside. It was a little strange to see the dress code, which was not beach ware… at the beach!
A beautiful church overlooking the sea and the Hvar coastline. It's a few minutes walk from the port and the main square. A stroll around in the evening or sunset is really nice.
We visited a concert, organised for free in the Monastery. What an experience! A combination of old instruments, wonderful voices and a performance of a professional actor talking with all passion in 17th century Croation. It made my day! A hat off! A day before I visited the gallery and a small numismatic and archaeological collection which was fine but not spectacular.
This happened while we were simply enjoying the sea in front of this church. I’m deeply disappointed and disturbed by the experience my friend and I (both Asian women in our 20s) had here in Croatia. While we were peacefully floating on our inflatable tubes, a group of local teenage boys (approximately 14–15 years old) began throwing balls at us and shouting racially offensive remarks. We reported the incident to the local police, expecting protection and proper handling. Instead, we were met with indifference. The officers dismissed the behaviour as something they “couldn’t do anything about” due to the boys’ age. Shockingly, they even seemed to sympathise with the perpetrators. Let’s be honest – if we had been white, or Croatian, and those boys had been tourists, I doubt this would have been brushed aside so casually. There is clearly a double standard. We felt unsafe, unheard, and entirely unsupported by the very authorities who are meant to uphold justice. I take this incident very seriously and have video evidence of the police’s inadequate response. This experience has completely changed how I view Croatia as a travel destination. Racism should never be tolerated – not from teenagers, and certainly not from the police.
Very nice looking monastery with nature in proximity. It’s built out of stone featuring amazing details. The gardens look amazing. Only the walls could be cleaned since they have black stains on them.
A lovely location and the cloister is free. But I didn't think that the museum was anywhere near worth the €7 entrance fee. Mainly some minor paintings, some pots from a shipwreck, and an exhibition of Croatian currency.

perfect chill beach, absolutely gorgeous. we decided to come here after seeing the prices of a bed at one of the beach clubs and it was a much better choice. we arrived just before 12 and there were still beds available (15€ pp) in the sun or the shade. the bar was cheap too. 100% definitely recommend this over some of the busier and more expensive sun beds or one of the beach clubs for a day
Fantastic, low-key beach. If you're looking for a party beach, do not come here. This one is more laid back and there are signs to not play music/be loud/etc. Water is perfect and relatively shallow. €15 to rent a sunbed (no umbrellas, however, when we were here). €10 to catch a water taxi from Hvar Town and back.
Just 15 minutes from Hvar town, 10€ for a return by taxi boat. Peaceful beach with great blue water and options for sunbeds (15€). Bring enough cash, as the restaurants don’t take card. Had a great afternoon!
It was a good place but the water was very cold and the beach small. You can rent chair or lay under a tree. We took a taxi boat in Hvar for 10 euro each including the return. The taxi will bring you on the island between 10 and 1 pm and only take you back after 4 pm, so we found it a little long to wait until that moment. Maybe better to take a tour to see more of the islands and not just stay at this beach for the day.
The beach is easily accessible via water taxi from Hvar which costs 10€ per round trip. The water taxi does not drop you off on the beach, but in nearby bay and then there is a short 5 minute walk. The beach has very beautiful clear water and is perfect for swimming. It also does not have a steep entrace into the sea, so it does not get deep right away. It is very crowded in the season and very incomfortable to sit directly on the towel. There simply is not much space to match the high number of visitors so it will feel very packed. There is some natural shade from trees and it is impossible to set a parasol due to the pebbles. Alteratively, sun loungers are available to rent for 15€ a day which are more comfortable, though availability is limited as well.
So nice we went back from Hvar twice. Lovely little restaurant that sells water. Sunbeds for hire in shade and sun. As usual: beach shoes best as shore is rocky/pebbly. Beautiful tree cover
beautiful and calm beach, there are taxi boats every 15 mins from hvar for 10€/trip, even though it was august the beach was calm so fully recommended

This is simply the best bike hire experience I’ve had in Croatia in 15 years. It is a pleasure to hire bikes from people who love bikes and have raced them. They know what they’re doing and have a passion for the sport. They want you to enjoy it too. Other hirers are just a business, cheap bikes, poorly maintained, lucky if you can access all the gears. Hvar.life have new bikes of good quality and well maintained. You get a puncture repair kit so your day doesn’t end in a long walk or taxi ride if you hit a sharp. Dealing with them in advance by email was easy and straightforward. They gave good advice on where to ride. I cannot recommend them too highly.
This is related to bike service. Repair was done in time, but clumsy with lost parts, without telling me they lost parts, and with quick release mechanism out of service. What they did tell me was, that it is possible the front wheel will fall off, if not adequatly tightened. This tightening caused front wheel not to roll properly, but with quite a resistance. Unfortunately what had to be a simple tire change, become a possible disaster
Extremely recommend if you are visiting Hvar! The owner was really nice and forthcoming. The bikes were in really good shape, without any technical problems. Had an amazing bike ride with wonderful scenery. Definitely visit if possible!
Kosta was magnificent and was the best tour guide ever. He answered all of our questions and was so knowledgeable about the towns, the history, and the bikes and our safety with the bicycling. I absolutely recommend the guided bike tour with the wine and lunch. 5/5
Great bicycle trip with Kosta! Nice pace stopped a few times for pictures wine and lunch. Great local business easily accessible from Hvar
Kosta led us along an unforgettable route today through the vineyards and olive groves and several charming towns. The UNESCO protected dry stone walls divided the area and lined some roads. Included: adventure, beauty, a leisurely stop for wine tasting and of course a savory slow roasted lunch. All were so delightful. HVALA!!
This was truly an incredible biking experience and the beautiful landscape and colors of the sea were breathtaking!!! Our guide was amazing and so very kind and firsthand also so fun and helpful! A perfect tour and a perfect way to see the island and taste the wine and cuisine! 5 stars!! Cathy Axvog

Great place to visit! Everything is clean, the atmosphere is welcoming, and there were no issues at all. Highly recommended! Place is completely safe without engineers and doctors. ♥️
Very little to see for the €5 per person entry fee. Not really worth the effort. The “pond” with the fish, plus the olive and grape press are nice -but things you can see elsewhere. I thought we would be able to get inside the fortress, but unfortunately no. There certainly is a lot more that could be offered to visitors in order to justify the cost and effort to get to Stari Grad to see this.
It is very nice, but max 20-30 min is enough to see everything. Actually you can go only into the garden. But that is nice. I recommend it. Dogs can also go in.
I could see myself in this very place few centuries ago. 😍 Beautiful place, full of plants, birds and fish. Relaxing, as the summer villa should be.
Amazing small streets full of ancient building, Town full of history. Stronger recommended 2be visited. Try awesome icecream. It's so delightfull
5€ per person is CRAZY! There is nothing to see if not the pool with fishes and the garden. Nice but not at this price! Plus it is cash only!!!!
If you actually care about the history, and read the pamphlet, even ask the person (who’s really knowledgeable) on the entrance something, you can learn a lot. My favourite part was the “toilette” with the great text above it.

A landscape full of history… beautiful vibes here… and the ancient town picturesque and a cosy atmosphere
This is UNESCO World heritage protected site as one of the rare examples of intact agricultural landscape made by Greek colonists when they took this beautiful bay from local population and leaving to them rest of island apparently. I would like more investment (EU funds of course) but even like this is it perfect place for bike or walking tour. You can reach it from Stari Grad and it stretches almost to neighboring beautiful small towns of Jelsa and Vrboska. In spring you can find delicious asparagus here in great quantity. And try to avoid high summer as it can be really hot here if you are not near sea. Fifth star is missing as it should be maintained much better but this is place to see when visiting amazing island of Hvar as it is unique place indeed.
E-biking through this beautiful plain was one of my favorite activities in Stari Grad! If you visit in the summer, particularly a hot day, I'd recommend exploring the trails this way. We rented e-bikes from Hvar Life and it was just a short trip down some quiet roads to get to the landscape from there. There's many paths to explore, but if you get hungry Hora Hvar is nearby for you to enjoy some farm-to-table food.

A scenic harbour on the island of Hvar which can be accessed from Split harbour by fast catamaran ferry. The harbour area offers many scenic spots which can be reached by walking along the seaside promenade. An opera house, big courtyard for open air shows, a cathedral and a monastery, a park, lovely beaches, restaurants and assorted shops line the harbour. It is a very lively place during summer with more than 30,000 tourists visiting the island daily. The imposing fortress on the hill top makes for a very imposing background to the harbour makes this place an ideal island to visit for a day trip from Split
Hvar is a small place and harbor is the most prominent place here. All the ferries arrive and depart from here. Within 500 meters of Harbor you would find 90% of bars and restaurants. For all the surrounding islands this is the starting point. Even if you sit there and people watch you can spend an entire day. It looks more beautiful in the night when you see all luxury yachts parked.
Great little harbor for tourism. It's a small seaside old town that you can walk through in two hours. Lots of restaurants and shops, and a fortress on top with amazing views. For the best restaurants, pastries and coffee go one out two blocks away from the main drag. This place gets busy in the Summer, especially on weekends, and has a spring break feel.
Nice waterfront walk harbor/Marina. Very touristic environment, since it is a great summer getaway. You have many Restaurants and shops in the surrounding areas. The Harbor is part of the whole waterfront walk, which is lovely. You can also check the fort on the top of the hill and see the Marina from above. The water and the scenery here, are wallpaper material. The color of the water is just amazing and if you are a relaxed person, just sit on a bench somewhere and enjoy the environment and its vibes.
Hvar is a very quaint town with some old buildings and lots of places to eat, drink or grab a coffee. I loved walking around and enjoying the ambience. The harbour and buildings make a pretty picture. Don't miss going up to the fort for spectacular views of the harbour
Stunning little harbour. We used the krilojet from mainland and was comfortable and even had cell charger ports on board; bonus! Hvar was a awesome day visit despite being crowded with tourists . Very expensive to eat so I bought bread and snacks with me to the island to avoid overspending.
I was Walking around the harbour I have found it beautiful since the colour of the Dalmatian sea is crystal light blue, you have so many yachts and boats coming into that is very distracting. There are many shops and restaurants along the sea front ideal to seat enjoy a good glass of wine. Highly recommended to visit this island one if the main ones in Croatia
A beautiful place in and around. Lots of restaurants and things to do around here. Try to climb up to the Fort as well while you are there. The views up from there are amazing.

When we visited, most places nearby were still closed—which actually made the experience better. The beach was quiet, peaceful, and far less crowded than usual. We were among just a few people there, which made it feel like a hidden gem. The water was clear and clean, perfect for a swim. Just a heads-up—it’s a pebble beach, so beach shoes or sandals definitely help. Easily one of the better beaches in Hvar.
We didn’t even try to go to the beach, it was clear from afar that it was crowded. But there were some sunbeds on the rocks that you could rent for €40 for the whole day (two sunbeds and an umbrella). I highly recommend it. The water was very clean, and there were stairs nearby to get down and swim. There were also spots where you could jump into the water from a height. On top of that, the guy in charge of the sunbeds was very friendly to us. If you come to this beach, I recommend staying in the sunbed area. It’s worth paying for. The place is beautiful.
The beach itself is beautiful, with very clear water and no visible dirt. Just keep in mind that it’s all pebbles, so a thick base under your towel and an umbrella are a must, as there’s no natural shade. The downside is the rental prices – €20 for a sunbed and €10 for an umbrella is pretty unreasonable, especially since rentals only start from 10:00. For those who prefer to come early in the morning (like 7:00–12:00), paying €50 for just a couple of hours feels insane. Another minus is that the umbrellas don’t include a small table or hooks for clothes. I would still recommend the beach, but definitely bring your own gear for comfort and health.
Nice beach to swim and to enjoy the sun. The bedsuns have to be paid by cash. The restaurant has an ATM with 5.8% commission..
The cala is the bluest water I’ve seen. Not do crowded. It has a bathroom for 1 euro and a nearby restaurant. It has a short hike down on a rocky road. We loved it!
A beautiful natural cove beach excellent for swimming! We brought our own goggles so we could lap the designated swim area. You could snorkel but there isn’t much to see, watch out for sea urchins! There is a bar and restaurant available but seemed very overpriced. Instead we stopped at some markets in town and brought our own food and drinks. You are able to drive or taxi from the town, taxi men wait at the lot to take you back. But we just walked the short but steep path down from the town. Went on a Friday afternoon and yes it was crowded in the main beach area, but there are places in the trees on the west side that had more space and provided sun protection. Could have spent the whole day here! Was a wonderful time, hope to return one day.
Super beautiful beach. We loved it. A must if you’re on Hvar
Crystal clear waters at this pebble beach. We took a little hike to get here from our stay. Definitely worth it
