We have ordered from Cafe at the End of the Universe countless times and never once been disappointed or let down by their food or service, until last night when we waited close to 3 hours to receive our food. I understand how busy a Friday night would be (ordered at 7.15pm) and so we expected the wait time to be 1/1.5hour. However, to have to contact them twice to ask where our food was extremely disappointing. The first time we rang (8.30pm) we had to wait whilst they tried to locate our order number which didn’t fill us with confidence and we were told our food was next and will be delivered soon. The second time we rang (9.45pm) we were told there was a delay in the kitchen. When we received our food it wasn’t as if it was piping hot, it was warm and to be honest one of the burgers looked like it had been thrown together quickly (half of it in the box rather than on the burger bun). This shockingly poor experience has left us severely disheartened & ultimately just disappointed in this business which we had loved before this happened. Staff was helpfull and friendly. Had us sat beside another family which clearly had little space between tables so had to ask to move on a different table. Food took awhile to arrive and was a big let down for me. It tasted just ordinary despite it's price. Food I ordered was supposed to have some sausagr but didn't find any so I presumed it was a different one. Salmon was just okay though priced a bit steep. Risotto was not that good. My Mum had the seafood risotto and my Dad the Pork Caruso. They both cleared their plates, which again were generously loaded. We also had the special garlic bread. The slices with cheese and tomato sauce were great but the plain pieces didn't have enough garlic butter so didn't have much flavour. Overall the food was really good value and the menu is vast so plenty to choose from. They had a brilliant range of gins too, along with fevertree tonic which was an added bonus! The strawberries were plentiful, ripe, and BIG—many of them that perfect deep red you hope for. The properly red ones were sweet and delicious—exactly what you want from fresh, local fruit. And the service is great with fun and warm chatty staff who also gave a great welcome to our furry companions.. we were offered, completely free of charge, some doggy sausages, which was such a lovely surprise, and a very welcome one for the pups.. haha. When we arrived the cafe was quite busy and we explained what we were planning on getting done. We were seated at our table and the just left to our own devices with no assistance. Eventually after a few times of asking we got some help with the handprint tiles. We were then left again to our own devices. Our booking was at 11am and by 1pm we still hadn’t had any assistance with what we booked. As our baby was starting to get restless we decided we would have to leave at which point a staff member said ‘are you leaving?’ Which we responded yes we have been here for two hours with no help. We were then told that the casting isn’t guaranteed which seemed odd as this is what we booked and what we mentioned when we arrived and at no point was this mentioned. It seemed that on the day the staff were more focused on larger parties and serving drinks.
