An hour later, and after missing sunset, we were finally served. The food was good, but not really worth waiting our entire evening. Then we walked to the town, the hill is horrible! You cannot get to the beach easily or fast. They’ll take you down, but it’s slow going and very bumpy! The next morning, we woke up for breakfast (served 8-11) and no one was around who knew what was going on. After 10 minutes, we decided we didn’t want to risk more waiting and decided to head to town. I was stopped by the chef and Sylvia was on the phone convincing me to stay. We had to convince them to let us out! To our surprise, the city has lots of vegan options, so we ate well, faster and cheaper! There was a dance party night 2 that went on until 1am. Very loud and not really a peaceful getaway. For our final night in Costa Rica, we couldn’t take the place anymore and left to go stay in the city, on the beach, at a hotel with a decent vegan menu. MEV made us feel like we had to sneak around to bring our own food and drink, and with them ignoring the questions they asked us before we went about food, the menu was not varied and the wait stunk. The owner talked to us about herself our entire anniversary dinner, and seemed to have less interest in us over telling us her story. This place was awkward, inaccessible, and overall not a great choice for us, though again- the room was fine (save clearing hearing the dance party)! The rooms are really nice and spacious as well with semi private outdoor seating areas. The pool area is well maintained too. The hotel is not “a few minutes walk from the beach”. It is .5km and it takes 20-25 minutes to get to the beach. We had a rental car with 4 wheeled drive which is needed to go up and down the steep dirt road with numerous potholes due to the fact the hotel is at the top of a hill. The food was excellent and vegan but took nearly an hour to receive it each time we had to order anything. It was also the most expensive food and drinks we had all week and thats a lot because the general prices in tamarindo are already high. There is also free breakfast with coffee and fresh fruit drinks each morning. The website advertises they have classes in various yoga styles with all the equipment needed as well as restorative therapies such as reiki, sound heeling and meditation workshops but that is not correct. They dont have any staff on site for these. They need 24 hour notice to have instructors come to do these things with you. They also advertise that they offer massages but its the same case with the 24 hr notice. We ended up having to change rooms due to an intense septic smell but the next room was fine and the owner let us have a free appetizer and 2 free drinks in apologies for the inconvenience which was nice of her. Overall the experience here was fine but at nearly $400 a night I would expect more.

After talking to the clerk, his manager we were left in the dark thanks to an infective way to resolve our rooms situation. The clerk tried to fix the issue first by saying they had other rooms available and we will get a special price (cheaper) but at the end after I've already paid for 3 nights the new cost because the missing rooms were almost double in price. We went from $690 (booked 3 nights, 3 rooms) to almost $1400 for the same setup. Who is to blame well Best Western should have giving us the rooms for what we already had paid months in advance and fix the issue with Booking.com for what they did wrong but I can tell you we will never recommend or stay in any Best Western in Costa Rica. I can guarantee you here in the United States any Best Western will do everything in their power to ensure we were satisfied as a customer. Seriously after that experience and waiting almost two hours for resolution we decided to book another hotel that miraculously had 3 rooms available even for a senior with mobility issues and spent the original amount not over priced like Best Western. If you have a reservation in this hotel call ahead and triple verify that they have it available. Terrible when any hotel over sells the rooms even if they know someone has made the reservation before. Really a bad experience not worth repeating over there. Do your research and double check always any reservation. Also we stayed at the Radisson in San Jose multiple times during the same stay and we did not have any issues at all.

Mind you the (restaurant) has only two tables. How is that a restaurant? Are we supposed to hold our food in our hands and eat it. This place is a bar because that was open. So my significant other downloaded WhatsApp to communicate with the motel clerk. So we decided to get a massage once again WhatsApp nonsense. We sent text to the massage lady and she ghosted us. Ok so remember we just arrive and have no map. So we go back to that clerk and he's upset we are asking for directions I think because he can't communicate it. We only had about 2 hours of total surfing experience before arriving, so this review is from the perspective of an absolute beginner, although the intermediate and advanced surfers that we hung out with also seemed to love the place. There was a group of guys who were just post-university, a few dads on a "brothers surf trip", a few childless middle-aged adventurers (our group), and even a couple of empty nesters! Tamarindo was very slow the week I was there but the hotel was very quiet and doesn't really have a social vibe if that's what you are looking for that would be my only knock of the place but overall it was a fantastic stay

The hosts were incredibly responsive and gave us great information for our stay right of the bat. For just the two of us the small space was just enough and all the amenities worked spectacularly, were cleaned thoroughly, and very well maintained. But the real crown jewel of this place was the location, just a hop, skip and a jump to get to the beach and plenty of restaurants and convenience shopping that you could need for your stay. If you're staying in Tamarindo, I couldn't recommend this place enough.

Beautiful, well-decorated and spacious room with a lovely balcony and comfy chairs for relaxing. The was the most comfortable I encountered (why are beds so hard in Costa Rica??). The outdoor common area was nice, with a big large table that would be great for groups. Housekeeping was excellent. We also had laundry done for a very reasonable price and they did a wonderful job on it. I really appreciated how sound-proofed the room was, especially when I went into the bathroom (which has some open air elements) and heard the howler monkeys going crazy! :-) Very easy to get the beach and we were so grateful for the loaner chairs. Also, very walkable into town for dinner, shopping, the gym, etc. We would absolutely stay here again when in Tamarindo!

Attached to the bathroom is a private outdoor shower. But as nice as the casita is the most stunning part of this property is the outdoor area. It is a spectacular tropical paradise in the middle of which is a beautiful plunge pool. At the back of the property is a fully equipped kitchen and dining area. This is the nicest place that my wife and I have ever stayed! Sergio and Mariela are incredibly warm and gracious hosts. Sergio supplied us with many fantastic suggestions about restaurants, grocery stores and what to do in the area. And the casita is only a 5 minute drive into Tamarindo. There was construction next door to the property that started fairly early but we are early risers so that didn’t take away any of the enjoyment that we had during our stay. 10/10!
