Taco restaurant
Green Papaya Taco Bar is a local favorite known for its unique style and tropical flair, offering a chill ambiance and an excellent dining experience. The restaurant spans cuisines and fuses flavors from Costa Rica to Mexico, serving up some of the best Mexican tacos and margaritas in Tamarindo. With swings as seats on the outside patio, it's a great spot for a laid-back lunch or afternoon hangout after surfing.
This is a really fun place to eat! They have swing chairs outside with bar tables, as well as regular tables. We all enjoyed the food and the portions were a good size. It was a little pricier than other places we ate on our trip, but that’s to be expected in Tamarindo. The service here was also excellent, they brought toy blocks out for our 2 year old to play with and they were very friendly.
Emme T — Google review
Amazing little restaurant in Tamarindo with a kind of healthy, Tex Mex menu with an entirely vegan menu (in addition to the regular menu). The staff is great and Claudia our waitress was so kind and welcoming. The place has indoor and outdoor seating with swings. I had the vegan quesadillas with vegan mozzarella and vegan burrito. I recommend you eat there- just make sure you have cash - they accept USD or CRC.
NJ — Google review
We ordered the beet carpaccio w/ blue cheese crumbles and the seared ahi tuna tacos and they did not disappoint. The food and ambience was great and our server Carlos was very friendly and attentive. Happy we came on a Sunday to enjoy the half off Margaritas and taco specials.
Sophia L — Google review
We are vegan, and we unfortunately didn’t like the food at all. My bf had the vegan stir fried tacos, which was soggy, with mash potatoes, mix of asian veggies drowned in soy sauce. The quesadillas wasn’t bad, but I didn’t really like the vegan cheese. The starter was good tho, we had the vegan ceviche with heart of palm, and the spicy sauce was very good. Wouldn’t go back tho.
Rachel T — Google review
Loved the atmosphere here. We had the beef burrito and beef enchiladas. Both were delicious and I definitely want to come back and try more. The restaurant has swings you can sit in for seating which is really fun and unique.
Amanda D — Google review
Highly recommended for vegans visiting Tamarindo! They have a whole separate vegan menu. I ordered the Buddha bowl, which was delicious. They offered some of their homemade hot sauce, and it was the best thing I've eaten on our trip! The swing seating is super fun too.
Olivia R — Google review
They have a separate and very good vegan menu. We had the vegan tacos with corn tortillas, vegan quesadillas and Buddha Bowl. Large serves, fast service and nice atmosphere.
M B — Google review
We loved our tacos and the chips and salsa at Green Papaya. Everything was delicious. It was our most expensive meal in Costa Rica which was surprising but we did have a group of 8 and would still recommend. We spent $250 for the 8 of us and we each had two tacos, chips and salsa and soda.

Restaurant
Dragonfly Bar & Grill is a romantic dining spot in Costa Rica, offering a tranquil ambiance and hyper-local, sustainable ingredients sourced from the country's seas, sands, farms, and fields. The restaurant boasts low lighting, fairy lights, table lanterns, and a casual atmosphere. Its innovative menu changes with the seasons and features dishes like vegetarian Buddha bowls, fresh-caught red snapper, sesame-seared yellowfin tuna, and fiery Thai beef.
What an amazing restaurant. We had the Sashimi plate and Tuna Tartar. You need to start with the cocktails as Bernard creates amazing crafted drinks, The Sashimi was the best tuna I have ever had and the tartar was also excellent . For mains we had the Tuna and the steak dinner. The tuna was very good however I would go with the Filet Mignon as it was incredible. Service was fine but the food and ambience were off the charts - especially for the price. It is a must stop if you are in the area.
David H — Google review
This is the perfect dinner spot! Dragonfly was one of the best places we ate while in Tamarindo. They had a wide range of foods on the menu, great drinks, and quick service. I had sushi and it was so delicious! This restaurant may not be right downtown, but I am so glad that we tried it and hope you do too.
Tessa S — Google review
The food was actually AMAZING. Flavorful and fresh. They had an excellent selection of drinks, entrees and desserts. It was our most expensive meal in tamarindo, $142 usd for 2 people - but that included cocktails, entrees and dessert.
Melinda G — Google review
Dragonfly is a nice spot for dinner for all types of occasions. Menu has a nice variety of options including sushi. We tried some gyoza, three sushi rolls, mozzarella empanada and the kale salad. Sushi was nice and fresh and the kale salad was great. They also had some light live music which was nice!!! We didn’t order drinks but they a nice selection to choose from.
Mitzi M — Google review
We had a fantastic dinner here on our last night in Costa Rica. Highly recommend the Buddha bowl (and I added seared tuna). The tuna was cooked PERFECTLY, and the bowl was so flavorful. Delicious tofu and the sauce was amazing. 10/10 would recommend!
Jennifer A — Google review
Dragonfly was an amazing place due to its quality of food/drinks. Great atmosphere to enjoy dinner & drinks. Personnel was very attentive. It was admirable to see Bernardo make great drinks, talk with guests and manage multiple task at once. Pura vida 🤙🏻
Sharlyn R — Google review
The food here is absolutely delicious—everyone needs to try the Roll Tico sushi! It was easily one of the best sushi rolls I’ve ever had, with a unique flavor that reminded me of a funnel cake—unbelievably good. The service was decent, nothing exceptional, but every dish we had was amazing, including the tuna tartare, empanadas, and mussels. They offer a wide drink selection, the place is clean, and though it's tucked away in the corner, it’s definitely worth finding.
Pat S — Google review
A bit disappointed! We made a reservation for 5:30pm which was a great time; however, we were seated outside and got eaten alive by mosquitos. We moved to the bar eventually which is less exposed to the outdoors and the bartender offered us bug spray which was nice. For drinks, we ordered a mint lemonade (refreshing), dragonfruit mojito (tasty, pretty aesthetic), and the passionfruit cocktail (not as good as the mojito but alright). For food, we ordered veggie empanadas (pretty good), dragon sushi roll (didn’t get a ton of tuna as you can see in the picture, high rice ratio), and the Buddha bowl (solid vegetarian option, large portion, wished there was more texture in the bowl like more of a crunch and more variety in general). We just walked here after the beach so no parking was needed for us! For the price, we would have wanted it to be a bit higher quality for the food.

Nestled in Tamarindo, Falafel Bar offers a casual and inviting atmosphere with a diverse menu that caters to various dietary preferences. From traditional favorites like hummus, falafel, and baba ghanoush to more innovative options such as stuffed grape leaves, the restaurant provides an array of Middle Eastern delights. Guests can also create their own mezze by selecting from a variety of small plates.
Great food and the waitress was amazing. Food was super tasty and of quality. Hummus and felafel with top notch. Mediterranean platter amazing French fries, wow Great experience, great atmosphere and very apprentice stuff

I love this place! Eaten there many times and I just keep going. The chicken shawarma pita is super tasty and a full meal. If you get, don’t order any appetizers.
Michael K — Google review
Went here for lunch with my family and had an amazing experience. Emanuel was very friendly and helpful with recommendations, and the service was excellent from start to finish. We ordered the Mixed Grill—especially loved the ribeye beef skewer! It came with warm, fluffy pita, tasty garlic sauce, creamy hummus, and rice. We also got the falafel plate which is a great vegetarian option. The hibiscus lemonade and ginger lemonade were super refreshing, and the passion fruit ale was a unique must-try. Great food, wonderful service, and an overall enjoyable dining experience.
Suthan N — Google review
Loved this place! I only had the shrimp skewer appetizer, which comes with a delicious salad, hummus, tahini and baba ghanoush. It was a generous serving, almost like a full meal. I swapped the tahini for tzatziki though to keep the calories lower and it was delicious. Even the shrimp on its own without dipping it in anything was perfectly grilled and seasoned. My spouse had the Greek salad and loved it. All the ingredients are fresh and tasty. The prices are also very reasonable. And the staff is an absolute joy, especially Manuel. He was super friendly, informative, and genuinely positive and lovely to talk to. Will go again!
D T — Google review
I read the 1-star reviews left previously by others before giving a 5-star to balance and check myself. When rating an establishment one must factor in location, comparative food in the area, and the history of the world. For example, pricing is always high in a beach town. This is the only Middle Eastern place in a town with mostly Latin food places, therefore gathering ingredients from distributors for Middle Eastern food is not easy. Owned by an Israeli, one commenter of a 1-star review tried to accuse this place of cultural appropriation. Fool, Israeli folk have been eating falafel alongside their Arab cousins since humans first ground beans on this portion of the globe. As for the person carrying on in their 1- star review about a dead bug, YOU ARE IN THE TROPICS! The food, service, and atmosphere were all perfect. Falafel Bar is by all means 5-star.
Debra P — Google review
Food was INCREDIBLE—authentic, fresh, and absolutely DELICIOUS!!! Sol was so lovely, helpful, and knowledgeable. The pita is made from scratch and is absolutely mouthwatering. Will be returning!

Best falafel in Costa Rica. The chumus tasted great. And really soft and fresh pita. Sol and Ema were kind and friendly. Fast service.

We came here for lunch on our last day. The staff was super nice and helpful. Our waiter help go over the menu and gave us his recommendations. The drinks were great. They place has ac which is rare 💀. They give you a little treat when you leave and that alone makes the whole visit worth it.

Sports bar
Bar & grill
Sharky’s Sports Bar is a popular spot in Tamarindo, known for its pub-grub and great drinks. While it may not offer gourmet cuisine, it serves up delicious onion rings, wings, and burgers. The bar boasts an extensive menu of house cocktails, spiked smoothie pitchers, shooters, shots, and bombs. Additionally, patrons can enjoy a wide selection of draft and bottled craft beers, malts, and ciders.
We loved our experience at Sharky’s. The food was so good and the drinks were also delicious. The staff was great especially with recommendations and explaining certain things. We were seated immediately, drinks within 5 minutes and the food wasn’t a long wait either. Great little bar with a large indoor seating area with several TVs to enjoy all the sports.
Amy C — Google review
This sports bar has a good vibe with plenty of outdoor seating. It's a great spot to catch a game or hang out with friends. The karaoke night can get pretty loud, but the lively crowd makes it fun if you're into that. Overall, a solid place for a casual night out.
William S — Google review
Fun little bar in the heart of Tamarindo . We had some very tasty cold beers and some fresh spicy wings. Well done.. service was mediocre but expected . Good place to people watch. Late at night they do some fun stuff for sure..enjoy ☘️

This was a really fun place. We all got food, everyone love what they ordered. The music here was great as well as the drinks.
H. C — Google review
My friends and I went last Saturday and it was "ladies night" and we were supposed to get vodka drinks for free. We initially didn't see the sign outside but were told by another customer that we met. The bar staff didn't mention anything about it. I am a Spanish speaking person and left my 3 Caucasian friends at the bar to order our next free drinks while I went to the washroom. When I got back one of my friends had gotten charged for the free drinks by one female staff (didn't get her name). When I asked her in spanish why she had charged my friends for the "free drinks" she got defensive and thought I had said she robbed my friends. Then a male server came and I asked him why she has charged us and he said that the female staff had used a vodka bottle from the back of the bar instead of the one they were supposed to use for the nights inventory & give the "free drinks". So beware and read signs cause the staff will charge you for free stuff and/or overcharge you (my friend also gave them too much money) and wasn't given her change back. I would give this a 0 rating but I can't as the staff was dishonest and took advantage of non Spanish speaking clients. We have experienced lots of other venues with nicer people that we will be visiting again :)
Marxcela N — Google review
Great place to hang out and have a couple of drinks. Always has the latest games on. Staff is super friendly and the owner is really down to earth. If you are looking for a good time and great hospitality, this is the place to be.
Peter B — Google review
Unfortunate experience with female staff (Saturday night, November 1st 2025) extremely rude, dishonest, overcharged for drinks on "ladies night" when we were supposed to be "drinking for free". I accidentally overpaid because I was shaken up from the confrontation (was also difficult to hear and my spanish is pretty mediocre) and didn't receive any change when I overpaid. Very sad and disappointed as we've had nothing but good experiences everywhere else in Tamarindo. Unhappy bartenders taking their misery out on customers. Not cool. I caution you against going to this place and to read signage clearly as we were not even told it was "ladies night" by staff, but by another customer.
Ryanna S — Google review
Yohan provided amazing service and was really sweet. He was very attentive, let us play whatever music we wanted and made our night super fun. The spot has different deals everyday so that was really good and allowed us to have fun without spending too much. Definitely recommend if in the area!

Beach
Tamarindo Beach in Costa Rica is a vibrant destination known for its energetic nightlife, world-renowned surfing, and stunning natural beauty. The area offers a mix of white sandy beaches, warm turquoise waters, and lush mangrove-lined estuaries. Whether you're an experienced surfer or a beginner, there are beaches catering to all levels. The town boasts buzzing nightlife and some of the country's best restaurants.
Great beach. Good beach for beginner surfers 🏄🏻‍♀️. Chairs are $30 a day unless you bring your own. Lots of restaurants to eat at. Some people trying to sell you stuff quite a bit but they aren’t pushy. You say no they go on their way. Great vibe 👍🏻
Crystal G — Google review
Beautiful Long Beach with beautiful shells to find when it’s low tide. The beach is very packed with lots of surfers and beach chairs. During high tide the beach gets very crowded there’s not much room to sit. Many people offering massages, fresh fruit, horse rides along the beach.
Grace G — Google review
Such a welcoming and charming beach town with shops, restaurants and activities to do. The sunsets are breathtaking and the moonlit art and food fest was magical. Loved it!
Maria G — Google review
The worst beach I’ve ever been to. It looks nice and picturesque but it’s very dirty and dangerous. Our baby got exposed to Shigella and we had to rush her to a Liberia hospital to start antibiotics. There are a lot of horses walking back and forth the whole day, and although they have poop bags, some shit occasionally falls down to the beach. Nobody picks it up obviously (same applies to the dog owners). We witnessed multiple times that dog and horse owners would dig the poop into the sand and continue walking. This poop gets washed into the sea and the rest is left for kids to put their hands in there to build sand castles. It stinks here and there too. There are many flies. Sellers come to you every other minute. Maybe it’s seasonal but the water was very shallow. Water was gone in the first and second half of the day. Black sand made the water look muddy. But all this is nothing compared to the horse shit. It’s a safety hazard - horses shouldn’t be allowed on the beach!
Anastasiia — Google review
Hot sand, cold water. Waves weren’t too bad. You can rent beach chairs and umbrellas for about $40usd for 4 people.
Arcy H — Google review
Great beach and so much to see and so. We went surfing here and it was great. So much going on in the area. Only stayed for one day could easily do several. Tons of restaurants and shops and activities in the area. I’d suggest staying in this area if are staying in costa Rico. Lots of street vendors selling all kinds of stuff and services. This was the first time I saw people offering massages on the beach. Tons of shops restaurants hotels and services in the area. It seems to be a party area, and the beach area may get crowded. If you just want to chill on a beach you may have to walk a good distance down the main beach area. But still a great area.
B S — Google review
Beautiful beach that is severely overcrowded with sunbeds for rent everywhere and horses nonstop riding back and forth in the heat (animal abuse). Had the place not been so overcrowded it would have been wonderful, but as is I would recommend going to Santa Teresa instead. Much better vibes and less crowded.

Asian restaurant
Wok N Roll is a well-known and long-running asian restaurant that serves up Korean, Vietnamese, Thai and Mongolian cuisine with some incredible fusion sushi. During high season, you can check out their oyster tank!
The Food, Service, and Atmosphere were all a 10/10 experience. I only had sushi tonight but there are plenty of non sushi options for those looking for something different. The fish was very fresh and the sushi menu alone is 3-4 pages. The owner, Candace, took great care of me. If you are in Tamarindo definitely stop by for a great experience. Pura Vida!

Everything about this restaurant is a 10/10 experience. The aesthics and energy draws you in, the food and drinks keep you here, and the service and hospitality makes you want to come again and again. As tourists, we were more than satisfied with the food as it was delicious. But we were also appreciative of the warm felt energy given by staff that suggested multiple locations to visit in Costa Rica that'll make our trip that more special. All in all, Wok n' Roll in Costa Rica is a must try!

Hands down my favorite restaurant in Tamarindo! The service and food is absolutely amazing. This establishment goes above and beyond in every way. The vibe and atmosphere is so welcoming; the owner and the staff are seriously the salt of the earth. They have a dynamic/style like how a family business operates. Wok N Roll is a must if your staying in Tamarindo

The food was fantastic. Fresh Japanese oysters every Monday! Never frozen. And they taste so much better than oysters I've had in the US. Everything is sourced local when possible and the meat is Niceragua grass fed. The owner can often be found working there. She and her staff are very friendly. This is a must stop in Tamarindo.

Hands down, the best meal I’ve had in Costa Rica. The food was absolutely incredible, and the service made the experience even more special. I truly felt like I was dining at a beloved family member’s restaurant—warm, welcoming, and full of heart. Now let’s talk about that pecan pie… to die for. La Oveja Tamarindo Mexican Bar & Restaurant is a great place to go for Mexican food, live music, and drinks. The service is top-notch, and the atmosphere is fun and lively.
This restaurant was so lovely 😍. The first day I came here for a dinner and I must say that I was positively surprised by this place. The food served here is very good, fresh food quality and well seasoned. Cocktail drinks also at a high level, rich in flavor. Came back here for breakfast the next day and I must state. It was a bull's eye. I have not eaten such a good breakfast for a long time, especially on CR. Definitely I do recommend come here 👌

2 stars especially because it's the only place in costa rica, where they are asking for extra tips over the tips they already included in your bill. Also, they are asking if you want to be charge in colones or us dollars, I replied with colones and she still charged me in US dollars on my card... Be careful with the staff over there!!

Pizza restaurant
Pizzeria La Baula is a well-established Italian restaurant located in Tamarindo. It offers an extensive menu of authentic, thin-crust pizzas cooked to perfection in a woodfire oven. The owner, who is Italian, ensures that the flavors are as genuine as they come. The restaurant maintains a classy atmosphere and is perfect for a nice dinner out with family or friends. Its location off the main drag adds an element of adventure to finding this gem.
We stopped in for dinner and ordered the Meat Lovers Pizza and Sangria. The pizza was cooked to perfection and the sauce and thin crust was delicious. The staff was nice and friendly and very attentive. They have a beautifully decorated outdoor garden setting. Overall we enjoyed our dining experience.

We had the pepperoni, the Baula, and the Chèvre and all 3 were great! Friendly service too!
Liz G — Google review
This could have been a 5 star review as the Pizza, service and atmosphere are lovely. What spoiled it for us was the Tico 'trick" when you come to pay. If you try to pay by credit card they take your card, then walk away and come back with a piece of paper saying your card did not work and can you pay cash. We INSISTED to pay by card and eventually went behind the bar with the server and watched her enter the transaction into the PDQ machine, and funnily enough it worked !! This has happened to us in a few places when they want cash payments instead credit cards. Left us with a sour taste, and will not be returning!

Excellent!!! We loved this place…so much that we ate here twice while on vacation! :) The pizza (and salad) is delicious, very friendly staff, and quick service. The ambiance is really nice and our kids enjoyed getting to play outside while waiting for our food. Highly recommend!!

We wound up here on Easter since most other restaurants were closed. This is a pizza only place with plenty of tables. The pizza itself was decent and d the service was quick.

Amazing pizza and best service you could ask for all in a beautiful restaurant setting. The restaurant offers authentic Italian pizza with great drinks and desserts. Servers were able to communicate well in English and Spanish and the manager speaks Italian as well. Go for the pizza but do not skip the dessert or limoncello. As a bonus, there is also an outdoor eating area with a playground for younger guests.

First of all the restaurant itself looks straight out of a travel magazine. It’s beautiful. The play area for kids is a huge bonus for those with little ones. The pizza was delicious with the crust being a perfect balance of crispy and chewy. Blue cheese was a surprise of our cheese pizza and we ate every slice. Highly recommended

Lovely decor, indoor and outdoor area. Beautiful play area outside. Great to keep little ones entertained. Staff were friendly and attentive. Pizzas were amazing. Lots of choices. Traditional Italian style stone baked. Very good size, lots of toppings too. Salad was a good size too. Highly recommend if you are in the mood for pizza. Live singer on Friday night too (may have other nights but this was when we attended)

Coffee shop
Nordico Coffee House, located in Tamarindo, is a laptop-friendly cafe with a minimalist Nordic design and a relaxed atmosphere. It offers a variety of artisanal coffee, specialty drinks, and delicious breakfast options. The cafe is known for its stable WiFi, cool temperatures, and favorite items like acai bowls and smoothies. Nordico brews everything from Americanos to cold-brew lattes and ice cream-infused affogatos.
Was amazing experience at this coffee shop. The view is unmatched. It overseas the three roads that get together right in front of it and all the action is happening in front of it. Staff was super friendly and the options for coffees are almost indefinable. Wi-Fi sucks a little bit, but can go around. A lot of gluten-free options. Super chill place.

Great place to eat a traditional Costa Rican breakfast. Western options also available. Does offer cocktails and speciality coffees. Staff all speak English really well and are very kind and friendly. There is an inside and outside seating . The patio lets you have a nice view of the city. Good was delicious . I ate here at least 5x while in Tamarindo.

This little cafe in Tamarindo is one of the few where you can find outdoor seating on the terrace, and indoor seating with AC. The decor is classic coffee shop with Pura Vida vibes. There is a lot of seating so you’ll never have to worry about finding space to enjoy your meal or work on your computer. The menu isn’t exceptional, but there is something for everyone—I really like the açaí bowls and breakfast menu. They have a great selection of coffees which is the most important of all! If you are looking to work here, they have great WiFi but it does get noisy so keep that in mind if you have meetings. It’s a great cafe and definitely recommend a visit!

Don’t miss this gem of a coffee shop on the second story of the Tamarindo busy strip. It has a great view for sitting outside people watching or getting stay inside for shade and quality air conditioning. Best coffee in town and the consistency stayed the whole vacation. Not to mention the food is so fresh with great portion sizes. The staff are all polite and in great spirits.

Pour over coffee is great! Dylan made a good recommendation between Peabody and black honey. The dessert was okay. I wish they have cakes. But overall, good place for coffee!

Nordico has become my go-to spot during my extended stay in Tamarindo. Over the past several weeks, I've found myself returning again and again - and for good reason! The coffee here is consistently excellent, and what I really appreciate about the staff is how intuitive they are about their customers' needs. They're incredibly friendly and welcoming, but they also know when to give you space to work or just enjoy your coffee in peace. The second-floor setup is perfect - you can choose between the air-conditioned interior when you need a break from the humidity and want to get some work done (the WiFi is reliable!) or grab a seat on the balcony for some great people-watching while overlooking the main square below. There's something really enjoyable about sipping your coffee and watching Tamarindo come to life from this vantage point. Whether you're looking for a quick caffeine fix or a comfortable spot to spend a few hours, Nordico delivers on both the quality and atmosphere. It's clear why so many locals and visitors alike keep coming back. Highly recommended!

I had such a great experience at Nordico in Tamarindo today thanks to Dylan, the barista. He was incredibly welcoming, took the time to explain the different kinds of drip coffee, and made me feel right at home. Our conversation was a pleasure, and his kindness and professionalism really stood out. I’ll definitely be coming back — thank you, Dylan! And they allow your pups on the outdoor balcony!

Very quiet place with a quaint atmosphere. Sat on the balcony with a nice soft breeze, and the love of my life sitting beside me, couldn’t have asked for a better morning!!!
