Wonderfully curated gallery. Only downside was the calm (I think it was called, the upper gallery space) exhibition which had great potential, thwarted by the narrated mindful audio guides insisting that you take a seat when there wasn’t a seat to be found. That and the jet turbine effect noise from the inflatable installation, below the gallery, altogether counteracting the calm.

This was on our to-visit list for our brief visit to Hull. I do find local art galleries interesting, especially as feature local artists and paintings, and this didn't disappoint. Lots of different styles and eras with a large ongoing exhibition of contemporary works. Don't miss the 'calm gallery' on the first floor. Contains a shop and cafe. Free to visit but donations appreciated.

A remarkable collection, beautifully curated. I loved Drapers, "Ulysses and the Sirens" and Fraser's "Blue Seascape". However, there are plenty of other fabulous works that it's easy to send a few hours there. The food in the cafe was excellent, I can't wait to return.

A wonderful art gallery near Hull city centre, displaying mainly classical works of art.
Their is also a children's and modern section, a gift shop and cafe.
Entry is free, but I do suggest that you make a donation into one of the gift boxes, so that it can continue to be an asset to the city.

They had so much too offer other than fish ranging from different amphibians and a section dedicated to penguins. They had some many different kinds of marine animals like sharks, jelly fish, fish, and clams.
I came here with my little sister and she loved being able to see penguins up so close.
Would definitely recommend and can't wait to come again.

Brilliant day out for all. We've been going for 13 years since our daughter was 18 months and even now as a teenager she loves it. Animals and information amazing, the café is superb and good value plus the price of a ticket includes as many return trips as you can make in a year. Simply the best!

This place is truly fantastic. Quite pricey for tickets initially but when you factor in that they can be used for a whole year, it means it's amazing value. A great mix of history, geography, geology and biology that would get the most disinterested person interested. So many different animals can be seen and it is obvious that they are all extremely well looked after. The gift shop is very well priced with lovely friendly staff. Would give this place a 100% approval rating!

Flawless aquarium, provides great info on the evolution of marine life. Also great views of the Humber. Best part is the annual pass so you can visit at anytime for a year. Great gift shop as well (I particularly enjoyed the tracker bracelets.) Will definitely be visiting again.

Decent aquarium attraction, great that you can visit for a year for free though unfortunately we aren’t local enough to take advantage. Disabled access is superb & it’s also a bonus that parking is free for blue badge holders.

Just like in my home city of Glasgow, museums in Hull are free. I'd so wanted to see their maritime museum, but it's closed for refurbishment, so I'll have to return in the spring. Anyway, there's more than enough to fill a couple of hours at the Streetlife museum.
Lots of old transport to see, a nice recreated street scene from the 60's, plus a ride in a Royal Mail coach. Although I have a French (and Spanish) degree, I never knew that 'chauffeur' is the French word for stoker, as in the lackey who fed the fire in the steam-powered cars of the early 1800's. Every day is a learning day, even at 72!

Iv been taking my grandson to the museum to do the activity sessions in the holiday and he's been loving the crafting sessions that are on at present . The sessions are brilliant and the volunteers and staff have been wonderful and patient with him . He is very shy and nuero divergent so he has trouble interacting with people , they have adapted to his needs and he is always wanting to visit . Beautiful museum.. We love looking round all the displays. Very well presented with things to do to educate both young and old. Well done .

This is free to visit and part of the Hull Museum Quarter. There are several old shop interiors, which have been rescued from throughout the city and these have been recreated into a street scene complete with old trams along with exhibitions of other old transport types such as horse carriages and bicycles. Incredible place where William Wilberforce lived. You can learn so much about this extraordinary figure in history who abolished slavery in England.
Lots of information about him and his life, and the work he did to abolish slavery.
A great historical site for people to come and see and learn too.

This forms part of Hull's Museum Quarter and is free to visit. The house is the birthplace of William Wilberforce and was the family home. The ground floor deals with his life and campaign for the abolition of slavery. Moving upto the first floor, the exhibition covers the grime reality of the slave trade so some parts might be unsuitable for younger children, but otherwise very educational for junior aged children and onwards. There are further local themed exhibits at an adjoining house.

Wilberforce House is one of the many amazing places to visit if you want to learn about Hull’s history and in particular the importance of William Wilberforce.
It’s a free museum situated in the Museum Quarter in the Old Town and just a short walk from the Minster, the Market and Whitefriargate.
The building itself is beautiful with so much information to absorb!
I really like the gardens , complete with mulberry trees. At the bottom of the garden it’s possible to look out onto the walkway and the River Hull although it’s no longer possible to go out that way.
Right next door is the Streetlife Museum.

Very well presented, with obviously some shocking documents and relics of slavery, but the history of the anti- slavery movement was very inspiring and heart-warming. What felt weird for me was the ceremonial mask that was offered to anyone (predominantly kids) to be played with.It was what made it a 3-4 for me. I’ve added a pic of it here.
Another thing is little information on Hull’s involvement in the trade of goods made by the enslaved. It was a business & there is definitely more information like the actual numbers of these products.
The anti-slavery medallions/coins were very interesting but I was again left with more questions. I think this section could be easily extended.

We held an evening private party at the Humber St Gallery (75+ guests). What a space! The venue managers were very helpful and gave great advice to maximise the space. We ended up having a performance on the roof terrace (glorious view as the sun started to set) and on the main ground floor space, exhibitions were left open for a little longer so our guests could mosey around. We brought in outside catering - highly recommend Tapasya down the road.

I come here every month for a regular coffee morning, and while it gets busy and overstimulating at times this isn’t the fault of the venue at all.
Coffee is lovely and the exhibitions are always great to walk around and look at.

I really loved this place. It is on a bustling street with all the boutique arty shops & trendy bars. Really young crowd. All the places looked very individual. A great street if you are bored of the usual chain bars & chain restaurants. It is a lovely part of young with a great atmosphere. The staff were really lovely. And they have the original "Dead Bod"graffiti that used to be one of the last things the sailors saw as they headed out to sea!

Great little hidden gem. I've traveled past it a lot and only recently noticed it.
The food is great and really affordable, and the owner even brought out some other dishes for us to try without charging.
Most dishes come with a serving of rice and plantain and are very filling.

The menu had an impressive variety, and my halibut was cooked to perfection. The atmosphere is classy and inviting, and the service was exceptionally friendly and accommodating. It's wonderful to finally have a sophisticated option for seafood that goes beyond the standard fish and chips. Highly recommended!

Came here in 2019 and just getting round to doing a review.
Me and my partner were just exploring hull on a rainy day and basically came into this place by accident at lunch time. It had just opened so we were the only people in the restaurant.
The staff were really friendly and gave us a nice private table and let us look at the menu, they gave us plenty of space but were still attentive and kind.
I got the lobster whilst my partner got the scallops, both of which were perfectly cooked and delicious, some of the best we've had in the UK.
Overall just had such a nice atmosphere about it and as stated since it was such a memorable experience for us I thought I'd finally do a review.

Food was gorgeous, albeit the time between courses was quite long but it was a busy Friday. But the five stars is for our waitress Kiara. Service with a smile- which is more than I can say for some of the others(!) She went out of her way for us and is a true credit to the restaurant. Our first visit to this excellent fish restaurant on Hull Marina. My starter of Lindisfarne oysters and Padron peppers was terrific; some of the tastiest oysters I’ve ever had. Main course fish dishes were plentiful and beautifully cooked we both really enjoyed our Halibut steak & Monkfish in sriracha batter. Sitting outside watching the people passing on a nice day was fun too. We will return soon.

Lovely big informative museum! Mammoth replica is a great attraction, as is all of the interactive ‘touch this’ and ‘smell this’ throughout. Wonderfully interesting and unique. I think you’d struggle to entertain children in ALL parts of the museum, but there isn’t a lack of interaction to keep them occupied. Great day out alongside the street life one. Wish they had specialist magnets with the name or something. Gift shop was a bit lacklustre, but i loved the mammoth stuff.

I really like how the museum is set out in time periods from pre-historic to medieval. The finds in the local area were eye opening and insightful.
There's a lot of reading, if you're onto that. A bit too much for me. But plenty to look at, including stuff for the kids. Excellent considering it's free to enter.

This is a huge museum in the Old Town of Hull and part of the Museum Quarter.
Usually when I am doing the museums this would be my third stops and I would be flagging; today I made a point of this being first. The exhibition is extensive and chock full of artefacts from the local area. Lighting is dim but there is a footpath trail around the site. There are steps and changes of level throughout but there are lifts available.
At the front of the museum there is a small gift shop.
Entrance is free but donations are invited.
Lots of interactive stuff so great for kids.

From the outside, you don't realise the size of this museum and it is quite a warren of different rooms. This forms part of the Hull museum quarter, with each one being free to visit (but donations appreciated) This is also the Museum of Archaeology so the rooms take you from the dinosaurs to the middle ages but all from a local perspective. I do really enjoy visiting local history museums and I did come away with a greater knowledge and understanding. I was particularly impressed with the Roman mosaics. Good for all age groups and there are lifts for pushchair/disability scooter users.

We specifically searched out free musuems and came across the Musuem Quarter in Hull.
Parking was nearby, and wasn't extortionate (though the current road works meant we had to go over a bridge to back on ourselves, but I digress).
From the moment we walked in, the staff were super friendly and welcoming - happy to allow us big kids to do the trail. Straight away, you walk through to a huge wooly mammoth and the exhibition is a walk through the beginning of time. Really great for kids, really interactive and lots to see. Staff are really friendly and helpful all the way through and a great trail to keep kids entertained!
Makes for a great day out and theres a beauitful courtyard, so pack a picnic and enjoy these great (FREE!) museums for a great full day out!

Iv been taking my grandson to the museum to do the activity sessions in the holiday and he's been loving the exhibition that are on at present . The craft sessions are brilliant and the volunteers and staff have been wonderful and patient with him . He is very shy and nuero divergent so he has trouble interacting with people , they have adapted to his needs and he is always wanting to visit . Beautiful museum. Very well presented with things to do to educate both young and old. Well done. We love sitting in the gardens and having our lunch or snacks . Games have also been in the gardens through the school holidays too. Well done to all the museums.

I have to confess an emotional attachment to this trail. I worked in the marketing department at Seven Seas in the early 1990s when this was set up.
My boss at the time was the driving force, and I have such fond memories of my time there and my boss.
Walking the trail was such fun to do all these years later on a trip back to Hull. We didn't find them all, but more than enough to make it worthwhile.
It's a good 3 hour plus activity, but there are plenty of places for a pitstop.
We bumped into several folk doing the trail on the day so it's obviously still popular.
I'm lucky enough to have a commemorative brick and a silver anchovy from my time at Seven Seas.

The fish trail is a lot of fun to do. There are all different types of fish and sea creatures to see at various places of interest around the city. It starts in the center of the city goes out passed Hull Minster towards the pier and there are various fish in the pavement around the City ( including a large shark outside a former bank), it's a great way of doing a tour you can buy a map of the fish trail in The Tourist Information Centre.

I visited Hull from the US to look up information on ancestors in Hull. I arrived in Hull on Thursday afternoon to discover that it closed at 4:30 and would not reopen until the next Tuesday, after I had left Hull. I had only one hour there and the staff were amazingly helpful, but I could do so little in one hour. My experience today was not so special. I couldn't find some microfilm and the member of staff found it for me. I then was searching for 2 books which I knew I had taken out of the centre before but again I couldn't find them. The staff member also couldn't find them and I was prepared to go home and come back another day with the relevant details and said so. The member of the staff didn't take this defeat and continued to seek out my books which he eventually found filed on the wrong shelf. Oh, and of course, the information stored in this building is so vital to the history of hull that it could not be replaced. Couple that with helpful and knowledgeable staff, well, what's not to like?

Love this pub. I always visit when I'm in Hull on business. Great old world charm. Usually great staff,you always get the odd one;modern world,modern values.
I always have a pint of Old Peculiar. One of my favourites. Hard to find as most pubs have gone down the 'trendy' pale ale 'new' IPA route. The standard of the pint is usually spot on. Unfortunately,on a couple of occassions, it has had a very slight sour taste and smell to it. As on this occassion. Different staff members prepping? Different staff members cleaning the pipes? I don't know. But it's there,occassionally.
An inconsistancy.
A fly in the ointment.
A lack of consistant,measurably applied standards.
Great pub.
Owners/ managers need to pay more attention to the details that matter.

This is one of Hull's oldest pubs. It is very atmospheric, with original wood work on the inside. With interesting decor.
The bar staff are nice, friendly and polite. The bar and seating area is kept clean and tidy. It's a nice quiet bar to drink in.
Drinks are reasonably priced with a good selection to choose from.

A hidden gem in Hull old town, tucked away down a tiny alley which opens into a lovely courtyard where the floral displays have won several awards. A Theakston pub serving 6 real ales plus real ciders. This historic pub has a room used for plotting in the civil war, survived a substantial fire and houses a mysterious skull. I don't think there is any food? Beers in excellent condition. Friendly and we'll worth a visit.
