Santa Ana Hill in Guayaquil is a must-visit attraction offering spectacular views of the city. The hill features the marble Hemiciclo de la Rotonda, commemorating the 1822 Guayaquil Conference between Simon Bolivar and Jose de San Martin. Climbing its 444 steps, visitors can enjoy colorful houses and representative places while reaching the top with a famous lighthouse providing stunning views of the metropolis.
(Translated by Google) Very nice place. Santa Ana Hill is one of the great attractions of Guayaquil. (Original) Muy bonito lugar. El cerro Santa Ana es una de las grandes atracciones de Guayaquil.
Jazmin C — Google review
This place seems to be getting confused with Las 444 Escaleras. Google that if you want to see the lighthouse and church on top of the hill. This place is just a normal road on top of the hill in a residential neighborhood with radio towers on it. You might get a view of the city from here but the real tourist place starts in Las 444 Escaleras.
Al G — Google review
WARNING!!! Sadly, I've been reading the reviews and wanted to be able to get a great view of the city. Perhaps I did not go up the right entrance, but followed my Google Maps to get to the top - I WAS MUGGED, and this was at 12 noon, on a bus route (that just picked up), and about 50 m from a moderate traffic area with taxis. This is a residential neighbourhood (edit: where this actually happened was between Santa Ana Hill and Torre CNT Cerro Del Carmen). I was approached by 2 men, that grabbed my bag and phone (that surely didn't help having it open). I fought and screamed loudly during the whole fight, but was knocked over and dragged as I tried to keep my bag. There was no mercy, so don't think your fighting back or screaming will help you out of the situation. I did go up the steps at Las Penas, and maybe to my own ignorance, but thought that the Santa Ana Hill was separate, and followed my Google Maps to another hill top (per above). Las Penas was otherwise very cute (edit: I believe this is where all the tourists are actually calling this Santa Ana Hill with the 400+ steps). For any single tourists, please do not go by yourself, even if it's in broad daylight. Your belongings can be more valuable than you think. I did not expect that a tourist site could result in this. Please be warned or get a guide that can ensure your safety. I have otherwise had a great experience with Ecuadorians and my time here, but wanted to warn those during their travels. Keep your passports, money, and phones in the hotel if at all possible. Left shaken...

Malecon 2000 is a picturesque riverside boardwalk that spans a mile and a half along the Guayas River in Guayaquil. Divided into three sections, it offers an array of attractions including restaurants, shops, monuments, and recreational stops. The south section features dining and shopping options while the central area boasts landmarks like the Civic Plaza and Moorish Clock Tower.
I feel safe here. I came for a quick walk and appreciated the secure entrance and exit, with many police officers and security personnel present. The area offers a nice view, along with a market selling snacks, ice cream, and water. The river view is beautiful.

Strongly recommended if you are looking for some sightseeing and great spot, this Malecon has all you might have look into Guayaquil in one place, also there are different places to grag food or snacks, activities might very from walking along the pier to ride a pirate boat, there is also a wheel of fortune and a dinasour theme park.
Chris B — Google review
The Malecon is a fine, popular walk along the river with a good amount of shade. Security seemed pretty good at all entrances. Many families were there. We felt safe and secure while there during the day. There are rides and small vendors along the malecon. More upscale restaurants with river views are also available. There are plenty of good spots for pictures.

if anybody tells you there is no museum worth visiting in Guayaquil they are wrong. This place offers some modernistic art, installations, etc. which I don't need. In the last room they show a very impressive collection of pre-columbian ceramics: amazing. These objects don't need any explanation. They speak by themselves.

Guayaquil Historical Park is a picturesque park surrounded by charming historic pastel-colored houses and features a small zoo. The Wildlife area spans 4 hectares and is home to over 50 species of birds, mammals, and reptiles living in their natural mangrove forest habitat. Visitors can stroll along raised boardwalk paths for close contact with the ecosystem without disturbing the animals.
We stayed at the park hotel. It was really lovely. There are not a lot of activities, but looking at the water, animals, and old buildings is relaxing. The morning breakfast in the courtyard is a nice way to start the day.

We visited the Guayaquil Historical Park and were absolutely impressed! It’s a truly atmospheric place where you can learn about Ecuador’s history and culture — and even feel like you’ve stepped back in time. We especially loved the area with traditional architecture and actors in historical costumes, perfect for photos. The park is well maintained, full of greenery, animals, and engaging exhibits. A great spot for both tourists and local families. Highly recommended!

A lovely place to visit in the centre of Guayaquil. Went on a hot sunny day but the walks offer plenty of shade. Nice variety of animals to see including crocodiles, caiman, parrots, monkeys and much more. $4 for an adult to enter.
Richard N — Google review
Beautiful place! The walk was nice, specially under the trees and it was nice to see most of the animals and some being fed. Also the historical buildings were open and gave us a look of the old city houses and style of living, totally worth it!
Erick&Lexi A — Google review
Loved this place. Our guide was great, and he took the time to make the experience even more fulfilling.
Henry — Google review
Poor animal conditions: Many animals are kept in very small enclosures, which raises serious concerns about their welfare. Numerous birds are also confined in cages, which diminishes the educational and natural value of the experience. • Entrance fee: The entry fee is $5 for foreigners, which is relatively low, but still worth noting for future visitors. • Unsafe natural area: The supposedly natural section by the water is difficult to access and potentially dangerous, with poorly maintained or slippery paths. • Pollution: The water in this area appears polluted, negatively affecting both the environment and the visitor experience.
Charline D — Google review
Really nice place for a weekend stroll. Get to know some of the local fauna, history, and culture (some food too). Fun for the whole family. Ask for the montubio show, funny stuff. There is a really fancy restaurant and hotel inside the park. Don't forget to try local sweets and treats.

Isla Santay is a wild island habitat and recreation site that serves as a protected area for mangroves and wetlands, as well as a local community of around 200 people. Accessible by foot, boat, or bicycle, visitors can explore the raised trails on foot or bike, paddle through the waterways in canoes or kayaks, enjoy lunch in the small village, and immerse themselves in the local culture and environment.
Took a bike across the bridge to the island and really enjoyed it!

bikes are in awful condition not to mention the path which is full of holes so you need to walk beside the bike trying to avoid the holes … paid 8$ for two bikes to return them after 20 minutes because it was impossible to ride them…not enjoyable at all!

(Translated by Google) It's been closed to bikers for two months, which makes it a long trail, but if you enjoy nature and hiking, it's worth it. Just bring water and a willingness to walk. There are crocodiles at the end of the trail, and the village is quite picturesque. (Translated by Google) Unfortunately the route is completely neglected. To take the bridge that takes you to the island you have to walk a couple of kilometers through the city. There is no indication or sign along the entire path. The access is between factories and shipyards, one does not imagine it will be there. Admission is free, when you enter you must cross a bridge that crosses the Guayas River and then the path that runs along the island to the indigenous community that lives there begins. The road, although beautiful, is completely neglected. There are holes, garbage...it's a shame because the place is beautiful.

You can also rent bicycles to take the tour, but if you prefer to walk and enjoy the ride, I'd say that's the best! It's recommended to bring a hat, water, comfortable shoes, and mosquito repellent 🦟 Along the way, you can enjoy the island's vegetation, different types of birds, lizards 🦎, crabs 🦀, etc. At the end of the tour, you'll find the small houses of the people who live on the island and the restaurant, which is open only until 4 p.m. You can also visit the Crocodile Farm and spot the 🐊🐊🐊 found there. Bosque Protector Cerro Blanco is a private reserve located just 30 kilometers from Guayaquil, Ecuador. It aims to preserve the unique tropical dry forest of coastal Ecuador and protect endangered species such as howler monkeys, jaguars, and various bird species. The forest offers a loop hiking trail leading to a community of howler monkeys and provides camping facilities for visitors interested in an outdoor adventure.
There are different hiking trails and they're all guided, you have to reserve the guide and you can choose between English or Spanish, with the English option costing twice as much. I did the longest trail, it was 4 hours. This is not for the faint of the heart but it was so worth it, we saw a few animals including howler monkeys, and we saw very cool flora too. I am very happy we chose to do this, I can't wait to go back!
Claudia V — Google review
This is a remanent from Tropical Dry Forest. It is a good place to go with your family to hike, play, and share a good time. In Cerro Blanco you can see birds, know about the forest, an see some mammals and insects. This place has guides that could tell you and explain interested things about the forest, also this place has parking, bathrooms, view points and it is a safe place

One of the best places, technically in Guayaquil, that offers an outdoor adventure experience. Hike or bike the trails go through a national protected forest. Be ready to see a whole lotta flora and fauna, even hear the howling monkeys that wander around. Take your water, sunscreen and repellent. During rain season, you can enjoy some seasonal water drops and ponds. Guides are available. Signage inside could be improved. 4 star.

Wonderful place for some time in nature away from the big city. Taxi here was $6, and on the way back we simply flagged a bus on its way to Guayaquil. You have to reserve the visit in advance (check website). They normally take reservations from Monday to Friday. At the bosque, there are nice picnic spots, and you can go for a nature walk with a guide. We did Canoa trail with Rodolpho and it was super nice. The guide really took time to explain everything and we didn't feel rushed at all. We saw howler monkeys, tarantulas, lizards, squirrels, parrots, and plethora of interesting plants. Thank you, Rodolpho, for the great trip!

Nestled on a gentle hill in a charming residential area, the Guayaquil Botanical Garden is a true paradise for nature enthusiasts. This is an amazing place to take a walk (alone or whit whoever you want). Far from the city, you can breath pure air and hear no city noises. The amount of flora is higher than the amount of fauna but still is a great place. Plus is a good place for photography.

Perhaps at another time of year besides August it flourishes more, but the version I saw really needs some TLC. I enjoyed the visit though-- it was just a little sad. It took some doing to get there in a taxi.
Dan F — Google review
Not so special, but relaxing to go there if you stay for a longer time in Guayaquil. Wander around, go to see how they contain butterfly species. Disliked the animals locked up in their cages. Not a lot of space, loosing their feathers because of being with too much in a small space. It was 1.5 or 3 dollars entrance I think, could be less but not more. Walk around for an hour and a half, two hours at least.
Tine V — Google review
The gardens are beautiful. But I was so sad to see high-energy monkeys confined to tiny cages. The ducks and geese could barely stretch their wings! I can't understand that!
R B — Google review
The botanical garden hosts a huge variety or orchids yet none of them were blossoming when i visited in January. The park is extensive and hosts alot of really cuty talking parrots and tiny monkeys. As you go round you bypass the whole tropical jungle represented here. Unfortunately the guides do not speak any English but be sure to look around for the swing at the end of the route.

This is a very nice hidden gem located near the university. The river walk is nice, needs a little upkeep but other than that, it has nice shaded areas to walk, even in the heat of the day. It feels safe and overall is clean. They’re plenty of resting areas and trash cans everywhere (although full sometimes). I’ll definitely recommend this cool walking area on the other side of the 9 de Octubre (the very other side from the malecon 2000. They’re also (paid&guarded) parking foreseen.

It's a very nice place to go for a walk, get something to eat, take some pictures and spend a nice time with the family. We went at night, probably we could've seen more things during day hours. We love the water fountain that is dancing at nights full of colors, according to the music that is playing. The city or the administration is making a real efforts to keep this place clean and safe.

Parque Seminario, also known as Parque Bolivar or Parque de los Iguanas, is a historic 17th-century park in Guayaquil. It features sculptures, an octagonal pavilion, the Palace of Guayaquil and the Cathedral of Guayaquil. The park is famous for its resident iguanas that freely roam around, providing a unique opportunity for visitors to interact with them and take photos.
Semanario park is directly in front of the cathedral, which is worth a 10min free visit in itself.  The park is most famous for the 100 very tame large green iguanas that live here. There are signs posted do not touch and do not feed; there are guards to enforce the rules. But enforcement seemed random, if you are determined it is quite possible to feed and handle the lizards, they are very docile. But you might get caught and you might get bit.
Jay A — Google review
Parque Seminario, also known as Iguana Park, is a small but beautiful green space in the center of Guayaquil. The park is well-kept, with shaded benches, trees, and a calm atmosphere that feels like a peaceful break from the busy city. The highlight is, of course, the iguanas that roam freely. They climb the trees, lounge on the grass, and are surprisingly calm around people, making it easy to take pictures or simply observe them up close. What makes this park special is the mix of history and charm with the unique experience of sharing the space with dozens of iguanas. Families, tourists, and locals all enjoy it, and the environment feels welcoming. The gardens and walkways are clean and inviting, and the presence of the iguanas gives the park a memorable character that you don’t see anywhere else. Overall, Parque Seminario is a must-see spot in Guayaquil—not because of its size, but because of its atmosphere and the one-of-a-kind experience it offers.

We visited Parque Seminario during our trip to Guayaquil and really enjoyed it. It’s a small, charming park right in the city center, full of life with free-roaming iguanas, small tortoises, and birds. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming — a perfect little break from the busy streets. Definitely worth a quick visit!
Anastasia B — Google review
We had a great day here. Walked through the park to the waterfront. The iguanas were all over the park. Some people chose to feed them. It created a lot of excitement t with the iguanas!
Michael O — Google review
Everyone was siding in the experience and having a good time. There was a gentleman there that helped take pictures and didn’t ask for anything (although I did tip), and there were prime selling Romain lettuce to give to the iguanas. We really enjoyed it.
Waldo J — Google review
This park does not disappoint. There are tons of iguanas and turtles everywhere in the park. Watch out for a bit of iguana droppings coming out of the trees. Overall it's a must visit when in Guayaquil. Easy to get to and it feels relatively safe here during the day.
Nav S — Google review
Great to a quick stop! The park itself is pretty, but the main attractions are the iguanas that reside there! They are not afraid of you at all, and if you bring a banana along, then expect to make some friends!
Jennifer C — Google review
This park is really sold on the fact that there are iguanas there, but to be honest, there aren't too many and they're not particularly big or impressive. Still, it's a nice park and there are ponds, where iguanas mix with fish and turtles. The added draw for this park is that there is also the Metropolitan Cathedral right next to it, which is pretty impressive in it's own right.

As the largest park in southern Guayaquil and one of the city's oldest recreational spaces, it offers an inviting atmosphere for families and friends to gather.
It's beautiful!! Tranquil place to be. I like it and recommend it. If you like to be under a tree with somebody or alone, this is your place. The park is very big and has lots of trees. There are many couples.

The park is nice and relatively big (considering the average size of Guayaquil parks). It also hosts the civil theatre of the city. It is really green with skyhigh palms. The architecture inside is also pretty interesting differing from everything else around the city. This park is a bit further away south of the city center but it is worth a short visit!

Awesome one of the best, secured parks in the southern area of Guayaquil city, it is one of the oldest parks in the city and a green an secluded spot to share with family and friends. With big old trees, birds, iguanas, fountains, sculptures designed by a well known ecuadorian plastic artist Guayasamin and fishes in an artificial lagoon were you could rent pedal boats as well as canoes. Come to exercise, you will find space to practice Taichi with a master, dance classes and aerobics. If you feel a bit peckish you could buy a granita, sodas, candy apple, churros, mangoes, pop corn and more. As well you could visit the teather when plays and concerts are available.

International airport
José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport, located in Guayaquil, Ecuador, offers a modern and clean travel experience. The airport features bilingual and welcoming staff who provide assistance to travelers. While the airport is not very large, it is well-maintained and elegant. Travelers can expect a relatively smooth and safe arrival process with customs lines typically ranging from 30 to 45 minutes for international flights.
This airport stands out for its beauty and remains one of the best in the Americas. However, in recent years there has been a noticeable decline in key areas such as restroom cleanliness and the quality of service provided by airport staff and authorities. These shortcomings negatively impact its image and the overall traveler experience. Hopefully, actions will be taken to restore the high standards it once had. I recommend implementing ongoing training programs for all staff, including public servers working in these facilities.
Wash C — Google review
A well organized and efficient facility, making it a pleasant starting point for both domestic and international travelers. The domestic area is conveniently located on the left side of the main entrance, making navigation straightforward from the moment you arrive. Departures are handled on the first floor, where the layout is intuitive, and signage is clear. Clean, spacious and smooth check-in process. Staff are helpful and efficient, ensuring minimal delays even during peak hours. For those traveling to the Galápagos Islands, there are specific procedures to follow. Before proceeding to the airline check-in counter, travelers must obtain their Transit Control Card (TCT), which costs $20 as of November 2024. The counter to get the TCT card is located on the left of airlines check-in counters. Additionally, you’ll need to have your luggage scanned as part of the Galápagos-specific regulations. While these extra steps might seem cumbersome, the airport staff manage them efficiently, ensuring the process is relatively quick and hassle free. Have a safe flight!

Jose Joaquin de Olmedo International Airport in Guayaquil is a pleasant surprise. Despite its compact size, the airport is modern, clean, and efficiently laid out. Navigating through the terminal was a breeze, thanks to the clear signage and well-organized layout. The staff I encountered were professional and helpful. I was particularly impressed by the airport's recent awards as the best in South America and the Caribbean for its size. The recognition is well-deserved. While I didn't have the opportunity to explore all the amenities, the overall atmosphere was calm and comfortable. If you're traveling through Guayaquil, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Jose Joaquin de Olmedo International Airport.
Carola B — Google review
It was my first time at this airport yesterday, and I was genuinely impressed. The entire place is very clean, and the design, especially outside is beautiful. Inside, it’s modern, well-organized, and easy to navigate. I also found the staff and people around to be very friendly and helpful. Overall, I was quite impressed with the layout and how smoothly everything runs here. Great experience!
Shahin M — Google review
Nice airport, but very poorly set up for transit. You have to go out of the security area and then back in, which not only takes a lot of time so you might miss your connection, but also it forces you to throw away everything liquid in your carryon that you bought before your previous flight.
Will P — Google review
Very slow security. You have to show your passport like 100 times in the airport. There aren't even water fountains in the terminal. Completely unacceptable in 2025. They charge $6.5 for a bottle. Crazy! Constant annoying, loud, and passive aggressive announcements over the PA system. As most in this country we experienced, it looks nice, but even basic service and amenities are lacking, but they do charge a lot. If you don't have to be in Ecuador, avoid it and visit other Latin American countries where service and organisation are acceptable. There are many of them.

Haute French restaurant
Restaurante El Caracol Azul is a well-established dining spot in Guayaquil, housed in a French-inspired building at the city center. The menu reflects European influence with a focus on seafood, particularly octopus and lobster prepared in various delectable ways. Since 1975, this restaurant has aimed to provide an exceptional gourmet experience, offering both seafood and meat specialties. While prices are higher due to its reputation and elegance, it's worth the investment for a memorable dining experience.
It was 1982..we were sailing on a Ship..The Master advised us to go to the best seafood place on planet earth..I was 20 my new hubby 25..it still is the BEST memory ever....I remember it always. Live in New Zealand now..but I dream.if returning one day ,the octopus ,the fabulous sauces the amazing decor and the BEST SERVICE EVER....Ah places such as these ..God bless them..

A group of us traveling from the Galapagos ate at Caracol Azul on Sat. Jan. 31, 2015. The food, service and owner are all outstanding. I would highly recommend the restaurant. My only regret is that I don't have any upcoming plans to return to Ecuador. Try it, you will love it. We had paella, a seafood appetizer which I couldn't finish as an entree and a couple of others had the sea bass...all wonderful. Mary

Impeccable service and it was nice to have some fish and octopus prepared by someone who knows what they are doing! They served margarine for butter with the bread but we find this sometimes in Ecuador. I am not going to to knock a star off for that!
Barry J — Google review
Food quiality quite good (except the seafood appetizers) but VERY OVERPRICED. I dont mean as pricy but as literally overpriced, for an overrated place. I've been to quite a few gourmet restaurants all over Ecuador and this is definitely NOT among the best. Service quality just ok, very reactive more than proactive and we had issues regarding the invoice just because of their administrative procedures. In summary, for now is not really worth it. More honest feedback as this might give them enough incentives to improve.

Having lived in Rome for one winter 2002 I never thought I would get pasta as good as there. But now I finally got a better pasta than in Rome. In Ecuador of all places. And the service is perfect. Thanks.

Came back from the Galapagos - was recommended to us during a layover. Excellent food; good service. Eat the Seabass a la caracol azul and you won't be disappointed. They take credit cards but you will need cash to tip. Expensive by Ecuadorian standards but normal US prices. Recommended.
Karl V — Google review
Amazing food. I had the chefs special sea bass and my wife had the seafood paella. The paella had langustine, shrimp, tuna, salmon, mussels, squid, scallops and sausage. It was excellent, probably some of the best paella I've had. The sea bass was served with mashed potatoes and was topped with a cheese cream sauce. The fish was cooked perfectly but the dish was quite heavy. The meal was started with some fried green plantain and bread. Both were quite good. We finished it up with coconut flan - this was also good but I'd quite different than Mexican or Puerto Rican style flan. Instead of a creamy custard style with a brulee top , it was more quiche like in texture and even had a crust. Service was exceptional, so much that we tipped extra.

A beautiful cathedral facing the popular called "Iguana Park'. The area is safe by day, but if you need a taxi, do not hail one on the street. You may be the subject of a 'hijack express". A muggling In which robbers enter your taxi, gun and knife in hand, terrorize the victims, check their wallets, survey credit cards and then go to the respective banks to take out all the money possible, you will operate the ATM. The generous portions and delectable dessert trolley are highlights of the dining experience. In the evenings, live musicians create a lively atmosphere. "Lo Nuestro" was recommended to me by a client as a great option for local cuisine. We had an excellent lunch. Very good variety of seafood. I recommend the crab sampler with four different dishes in one. Great service, staff was very attentive. If driving make sure you bring change for parking meter out front.

When you try to choose a restaurant and the ratings are years old it is difficult to decide if they are still valid. Let me tell you for this place they are, JoseLouis was great, he looked after us and the food was refreshing tasty and flavoursome. Our surf and turf option ( they don’t call it that) was perfectly cooked and the ceviche tender and well seasoned. Very satisfying.
Peter S — Google review
The service was fine, and the food had mixed reviews. It was good for a group dinner and sharing some dishes. The food appearance was good and appealing. They seem to cater to people with birthdays and for special events like anniversaries. The fried appetizer sampler (Piqueo Tipico) with humitas was good and liked by all. The ceviche sampler (Festival de Ceviche) had some good items (fish and shrimp), but the concha (clam) ceviche was fishy. The octopus ceviche was fair. The mangrove sampler with crab (trilogia del manglar) and the crispy rice was OK. The fried crab claws came out cold and were OK but did not seem freshly prepared. The lump crab with wine served in the crab shell was excellent, and we wished for more of this. The crispy rice was fair, a bit smokey and crispy/crunchy with some crab and sauce, but the people who had this would have preferred regular rice. The rice pudding dessert was OK. Their other desserts looked good. They have a semi-private room with a big table good for groups of around 10 that was nice.

Nestled in the vibrant downtown of Guayaquil, the Torre Morisca stands as a stunning octagonal clock tower that dates back to the 1930s. This iconic landmark, also known as the Torre de Reloj, boasts a rich history intertwined with the city’s past. Originally housing an English clock from 1842 within the Colonial Palace, it found its new home after a devastating fire led to its relocation.
From the outside it's very pretty but you can also climb up inside. The climb isn't too arduous but some of the steep are a bit hairy as they are open steel and you can see through them. At the top you can see the clock mechanism. It's worth going just before the hour so you can be there when it strikes. At the bottom they do ask for passport numbers and to sign a register but when we explained our passports were in the hotel we were let in anyway!

La Pata Gorda is a popular spot in Guayaquil, Ecuador, offering a unique blend of traditional and contemporary music in an intimate setting. It's known for its fresh seafood, especially the signature red crabs and various ceviche dishes. The restaurant embraces modern technology with options like Apple Pay for convenient transactions.
This restaurant will fill you up quickly! Their decent prices and good selection of dishes will satisfy any hungry belly. Our waiter was very nice and understood us well enough. However, their seafood portions are a tad smaller than expected. They did give us a free shot at the end, which was pleasant.

La Pata Gorda is a must-visit destination for anyone who loves great food and drink. I recently had the pleasure of dining there and was blown away by the experience. First of all, the Apple Pay option made the transaction process so easy and convenient. It's great to see a restaurant embracing modern technology and making it easier for customers to pay. As for the food and drink, it was absolutely delicious. I ordered a seafood platter and was impressed by the variety and quality of the dishes. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted incredibly fresh. The portion sizes were generous, making it a great value for the price. And let's not forget about the beer. La Pata Gorda has an impressive selection of brews to choose from, and I was able to find the perfect one to complement my meal. Overall, I highly recommend La Pata Gorda to anyone looking for a great dining experience. Nice location near the iguana park. We had a table near the window and could look out at the park. We ordered drinks. They were pretty and tasted good but they were not strong at all. The plantain chips were crispy and tasty with the dip that came with them. We ordered the sampler platter, a crab salad and and crab dish (chow mein?) The sampler platter was fried calamari, fried minced fish, plus grilled shrimp and calamari and a few crab claws (shelled) with a few French fries. The octopus was delicious; tender and not overcooked. The other foods were good but the crab claws were neither hot nor cold and tasted watery and soggy. They were served in water and not in butter which didn’t help their taste. My husband did not enjoy his entree at all. The rice was so hard it hurt his teeth to try to eat it. The cheese sauce was overpowering and the crab (what little there was) didn’t have any flavor. He was disappointed. The crab salad was also disappointing. It was served after the sampler platter though we gad expected it before that and certainly before the main dish. The crab was so finely shredded that there was no taste left nor texture. It was neither hot nor cold. The lukewarm temperature was not appetizing. The salad had potatoes, red onions and lime juice — reminiscent of ceviche but it was not successful because of the odd texture and the temperature of the dish. It was an expensive meal and about 75% of it was not good. We ate fairly early in the evening. It wasn’t busy at the time. Only 2 other customers were in the dining area upstairs where we were. Service was fine but I think our waiter knew we weren’t happy but did nothing to try to solve any of the issues.

Portions seem reasonable, price seems reasonable for European standards but might be pricy compared to other Ecuadorean establishments. The airco is set very cold, making it uncomfortable to stay. We would have ordered a beverage to close the experience but we could not bear the cold for that long.

(Translated by Google) I went twice a few years ago with my family and the place is nice to take photos and relax. You cannot bring in food, the food in the place is expensive and the pools and attractions need maintenance since there are quite a few but most of them are disabled, which means that users have to only occupy those that are available, therefore you cannot have a good space. I have wanted to return but the comments are not so good anymore, they need to remodel and do good maintenance. The Hotel Wyndham Guayaquil offers upscale accommodations with stunning river views and top-notch amenities. Situated on the shores of the Guayas estuary, this hotel provides easy access to Guayaquil's attractions and is just 3 miles from the international airport. Guests can enjoy a range of facilities including an outdoor pool, fitness center, spa, and restaurant. The rooms feature modern conveniences such as flat-screen TVs, air conditioning, and private bathrooms.
I stayed at this hotel twice last month (before and after visiting the Galápagos Islands). There are so many reasons why this hotel deserves a 5-star rating, it's difficult to know where to begin. First of all, the hotel is located in a very safe section of Guayaquil (Puerto Santa Ana), with plenty of dining options located within close walking distance. The hotel is a 10-12 minute drive from the airport, and the hotel offers an efficient and complimentary shuttle. The hotel itself is clean and presents itself as polished and classy. The lobby is bright and inviting... staff there will check you in quickly, and with a smile. I was upgraded to an absolutely gorgeous suite on the 8th floor, which was simply amazing! Rooms are clean and comfortable, and if you're in the mood for a drink, there is a wonderful bar downstairs in the lobby, which offers a variety of drinks. There too, staff were friendly and attentive. Thank you again for not one, but two fantastic stays at your hotel. I look forward to visiting again someday soon!

Disappointing and incompetent Front Desk Service We chose this highly-rated hotel for a two-night stay, opting for the breakfast-inclusive rate at an additional $20 per person per night, as we're vegan and wanted reliable options. Our first morning's breakfast at the extensive buffet was genuinely lovely. However, our experience on the second day, a travel day with an early 6:00 AM flight, was frustrating. We needed to leave by 4:00 AM and requested a vegan breakfast to go. The front desk agent, Carlos, quickly presented a sheet with four breakfast options, all in Spanish. He kept offering us eggs, despite our repeated clarification that we are vegan. Before we could even process or translate, he pushed us to choose the cheapest $8 option. We managed to quickly ask about the $10 option, which seemed to annoy him. Later, realizing how rushed and unaccommodating the exchange had been, we returned to the front desk. It took three staff members to finally get us a to-go bag with a sandwich, apple, banana, bread, juice, and water. While the rest of the hotel was perfectly fine, the front desk staff's lack of accommodation and unhelpful attitude significantly detracted from our stay. For a hotel of this supposed caliber, we expected much better service from the first point of contact. Edit after receiving the to go breakfast: the sandwich has meat, lettuce and tomatoes. The staff is very incompetent and ignorant. Would not recommend staying here if you care about service.

nice hotel at acceptable prices, friendly staff, effective house keeping. We stayed 6 nights, in a room looking to the back. Since in the direct neighbourhood on the river front side a new buildings is constructed very likely not the worst room. Inside most things are okay. Some screws need a fix, the double sided adhesive tape fixing the carpet in front of the escalator needs to be renewed, sport TV screens in the restaurant disturb the relaxed athmosphere. The terrasse to the river is very nice if there is no live music etc. event. These are just too loud, it hurts, communication is impossible. The breakfast buffet is very nice, a broad choice of local food freshly prepared.
Pestilenz — Google review
My stay at the Wyndham Guayaquil was mostly great! The hotel itself is nice - clean, spacious rooms, great amenities, and a delicious breakfast buffet. However, I had a very unpleasant experience with the front desk staff, particularly a member named Carlos. We had paid more than $20 per person extra for breakfast, but it was not provided as promised. This was disappointing and put a damper on our stay. We requested a packed breakfast for our early departure, as we are both vegan, but this request was ignored. Instead, we were repeatedly offered a cheap, pre-boxed breakfast, which was not suitable for our dietary needs. We were not given enough time to look at the full menu, which was only in Spanish, not English. We eventually had to have a very long conversation with the front desk to explain what a vegan breakfast could look like, given the options available at the breakfast buffet. I wish it had been easier to communicate with the front desk staff. Everything else at the hotel was fine."

Guys, if anyone is ever traveling to Guayaquil, this is the place you should stay at. Very safe, they will pick you up at the airport and drop you off there as well. The location is perfect, if you leave the hotel, the puerto Santa Ana is full of great places to eat or have a drink. I always stay in this hotel when I travel to GYE and I cannot recommend it enough.

Disappointing Stay: Excessive Noise Disturbed My Sleep at Wyndham Guayaquil Puerto Santa Ana I want to express my extreme dissatisfaction with my recent stay at your hotel, specifically regarding the persistent and disruptive noise that plagued my entire night. As a guest, I expect a reasonable level of peace and quiet, particularly during the late hours, to ensure a restful night's sleep. Unfortunately, this was far from my experience. Throughout the night, I was subjected to several distinct sources of noise that made it impossible to relax or sleep. This included noises from the construction next door and it the hotel itself heavy nosies like somebody is moving heavy objects at 0600 am in the morning.. The disturbances were constant and truly ruined my stay., the unbearable noise level overshadowed everything. A hotel's primary function is to provide comfortable accommodation, and the inability to sleep due to excessive noise is a fundamental failure in this regard. I urge you to investigate these noise issues thoroughly and implement measures to ensure future guests do not suffer the same experience. This includes considering better soundproofing for rooms, stricter enforcement of quiet hours, or addressing external noise sources if possible. I am highly disappointed and feel that the quality of my stay was significantly compromised. I hope you will take my feedback seriously and address these concerns to prevent similar situations for other guests.
Hector V — Google review
It's unbelievable the amount of noise that comes out of this hotel. The rooms seem to be separated by carton walls, you can actually hear everything next door. The worst part is when they decide to play loud music from their restaurant downstairs every morning and not letting their guests rest. Just a lack of respect which says everything about their management. There are better hotels and quieter hotels in the city. Dont be fooled by the location of this pseudo hotel.

It’s always like coming home when we arrive at the Wyndham. From the moment Jeanpierre picks us up at the airport to the warm greeting from Italo, everything feels familiar and welcoming. At check-in, Carlos, Irene, Leslie, and one of our favorites, Ashley, made the process fast and wonderful. Although we had to wait a bit for our room, the team suggested we enjoy a meal at Rio Grande, where Moise and Mariuxi greeted us with hospitality like no other. The next day by the pool, Jesus was an absolute charm—he even remembered my favorite drink! What can I say? Seeing the same friendly faces and experiencing such amazing service is exactly why we always start our vacation at the Wyndham for a few days and then return before heading back to the USA. It truly feels like the perfect beginning and ending to our trips.

This heritage museum invites visitors to delve into its diverse collections that span archaeology, anthropology, and natural history. With four thoughtfully curated rooms, it showcases an impressive array of artifacts that narrate Guayaquil's evolution from its Amazonian roots through pivotal moments like its struggle for independence during colonial times.
Beautiful. I love that it's available for everyone to visit at no cost. They should take donations at the door to keep taking care of the art and offer community programming.

If you have an hour or so to spare this is worth a look. Sadly all the information is in Spanish so if you don't speak the language you don't get the full experience. There was a helpful guide who spoke English though and answered questions for us. There is a very interesting Natural History Section (if you don't mind seeing stuffed animals) and a lot about the history of Guayaquil illustrated with dioramas. There are also some shrunken heads...which are fascinating.

Nice river walk, it's somewhere in the neighborhood of a 2 mile walk from start to finish. Ton of things to do along the way. Good food, people vibin, and iguanas for sure. The River Guayas reverses course every 6 or so hours. A little nugget, it's pretty freaky to walk by in the working and then come back later in the day and the current is flowing in the opposite direction.

The most beautiful barrio of Guayaquil has also the most beautiful viewpoint of the city. At the top of the Cerro Santa Ana, nowadays a colorful and cozy neighborhood, is the Mirador del Faro. Those who have some energy left after climbing the 444 steps to the top of the Cerro Santa Ana can climb the small lighthouse (a copy of Guayaquil's first lighthouse from 1841) for an unobstructed view of Guayaquil. Certainly well worth the climb!

To go and climb the 444 steps to reach the El Faro, or the lighthouse, was a beautiful experience. In fact, there's no other way to get there but to climb this stairs that go through the Barrio Las Peñas, a historic neighborhood where everything started many years ago to be what we know as Guayaquil. About the lighthouse, don't be fool, after your get up there, you'll have to climb some 30 or 40 more steps to reach the top and have one of the best views of the city.

The zoo's simple infrastructure allows the focus to remain on the animals themselves.
My Spanish is the worse but the staffs were great. They spoke enough English to help us through. It's a guided tour through the zoo with a little break in between for snacks and such. There is a snack bar mid way through the tour. Definitely recommend this zoo! this is something you don't get in the US
George J — Google review
The Zoo was worthy to visit and see some unique animals. It takes 90 mins to see everything with a guide (who was a bit pushy). The 4th star would require them to repair the pathway with better material than just dirt (it rained last night and everything got muddy). Also they need bigger enclosures for the Panther and some others. Finally, the guide… not their best foot forward. I learned more from the signs in front of the animals than I did from the guide, and that’s not an exaggeration.

The zoo was a nice place to be. They have animals I’ve never seen in person. The huge turtles were so beautiful. I enjoyed watching the monkeys and all of the other animals. I then got really sad because I kept picturing these animals in their original habitat especially the ones that came from Africa. It’s good for kids and for people who want to see some animals in person

Parque Centenario, also known as Centennial Park in English, was established in 1920 to celebrate the centennial of Guayaquil's independence. The park started as a project to honor the town's freedom and evolved into a vast green space adorned with Greek-inspired sculptures, water fountains, and allegorical statues. Spanning approximately 49 acres, it is one of the city's largest parks and offers peaceful pathways, lush gardens, and charming bandstands for open-air concerts.
Whilst walking around the shopping area we ended up here. This was a beautifully landscaped park with lots of greenery and monuments inside and outside the park. It is larger than Seminario park. It is free to visit and open to the public. There are seats so you can sit in the park. The shopping district is not to far from here as well as there are lots of restaurants around the area.

The Miniature Museum: Guayaquil in History, opened in 2006, showcases a collection of miniature clay sculptures that depict the history, culture, and traditions of Guayaquil. The museum features 15 dioramas that illustrate significant moments from the city's early days as a jungle inhabited by the Huanvavilca indigenous people to its current status as a bustling metropolis.
It tells the whole story of Guayaquil. There are audios in English and Spanish.
Cristina C — Google review
Miniature museum costs $2 admission. There are about a dozen dioramas with detailed small figurines depicting Guayaquil history starting with preColombian natives all the through to today's modern city. The audio is in either Spanish or English. A couple of them were broken with no audio, but the lighting worked. When we were there, it was not busy, but a group nearby us were listening in Spanish to thier window and we were doing English on our window. I'm sure at busy times the peripheral noise is distracting. Instead of audio speakers, they really need to upgrade to personal headphones. We thought the museum was worth the 45min and small fee spent.

Reasonably interesting miniature models of the city - about 15 in total. There is no movement but there are light effects and audio narration in Spanish or English. It covers most of the history of the city and the country from pre-conquest times

Surprisingly interesting, offers Spanish, English and others (I didn't press the other two buttons). Very informative, amazing miniatures. Even better after you've spoken to Mary and Jane ;)

Amazing place to learn about guayaquil's history, 100% recommended for kids and young adults to visit.
Churros L — Google review
Would have to agree with James. Gives very good history lesson through the ages of Guayaquil and Ecuador. It's a little hard to find, it's under the movie theater.
