We went to have breakfast. It was a nice place, close to the beach, I like the decorations. Menu was well covered. Many good options. We had waffles, omelets and coffee and it was really good. It is a small restaurant and service seems a little overwhelmed with the current afore but they are kind.

Every time we come to Ecuador and visit Salinas, we stay at this place. The location is very convenient - close to the beach. The design of the café is quite unique, with elements and decorations from the last century. It is a family business and the environment there is very friendly.

First time in this country. Second time back to this restaurant. Very good service and food. Much cheaper than where I’m from. I’ll definitely be back

Really nice place! Great service, right down to the hot towels when you sit down. The omelet I had was fluffy and delicious. The bread and espresso were very good as well. Many nice touches! I will definitely be back!

Great spot and a hidden little Gem, the owners have been here for about 8 years. The restaurant is relaxing with lots of plants and a big passion fruit (Maracuya bush) growing over the whole restaurant! The menu is simple and small and the break is cheap, delicious! 1.20 for a vegetarian omelet ....you can order meat also lots to choose from. free water... tea is 1.00 coffee also hot cloth for your face and hands when you arrive. Simply you can't really beat this place for breakfest.

The food is inexpensive and pretty good, but not great. My omelet was quite good, but the hot sauce on the table was a little stale. The main reason I am writing this is to share that the waffle is really not a good breakfast food. We went there with our boys, and they were very happy to see waffles on the menu. However, the waffles come covered in caramel and chocolate sauce, with a big scoop of chocolate ice cream. That was a real disappointment. So, don't order the waffle unless that's what you want. And my wife said the coffee was pretty bad. We really liked the ambiance, the nice jazz music, and all the plants. The service was also good.

I highly recommend this place. This is one of the best breakfast/lunch places in Salinas. Homemade food that is fresh and tastes very good. Many ex-pas come here so there is always someone to meet and someone to talk to if you are tired of speaking Spanish. The owners and staff are very polite and kind.

Not my favorite. I've eaten Italian food all over the world - including in Italy, and this was far down on my list of good Italian food. The food we had was bland, extremely overpriced, and super small portions. I suppose if you were born and raised in Ecuador and don't know better, this is decent Italian food. For those who've had the real thing, this doesn't compare on any level.

I came in looking for a good lasagna. I thought the lasagna was great. The terimiso was also excellent. The staff was very friendly and professional. The food came out relatively quickly. The prices were a bit high for the area, but I wanted to treat myself. 🙂

The food was really delicious. I had fetucchini with Vieja Modena it was really good. Try the Nutella mousse that was good as well.

Stopped on a hot day, we traveled from San Lorenzo, Manta. The server saw I was struggling with the heat, sat me by the big ac, turned it up. The pizza was great! Coca-Cola was cold. But it was a little pricey. We will def stop again to try more!

We‘ re from Europe and - I didn’t notice that yet - missed the european cuisine. I’ d enjoy the marvellous italian dish, almost moved to tears. Thanks a lot 😉

First time here, and I'm happy that I went there. The staff was great and answered all of my questions. It's normally very busy, but I came in early for an early lunch. A great place where the prices aren't too high. I had the churrasco and it was excellent.

I love the food here! And the service is friendly and pretty quick. But I do not always get what I ordered. Sometimes the aji is mild, sometimes super hot. This place is a must go to spot when in Salinas. The food is super fresh, the prices are reasonable, and hey, they even give you free popcorn while you're busy people/bird watching!

Since their upgrade of the establishment the place is a lot nicer to in , now it looks clean. The place has a good selection on the menu and is pretty quick at getting the food out. Unfortunately they still have some of the most unfriendly servers around. They exude, I do not want to be here. So if you can get past that it is not a bad place to eat.

It's hard to communicate when you have language barriers I was trying to have a cup of coffee with milk ( cream ) instead they gave me a cup of milk with a bottle of instant coffee to mix with.

Food is good and fresh, the place is clean and the prices are fair, mostly because they accept credit cards. They have a good selection of dishes and serve big portions. The ceviche is way too expensive, since it only consists of fish and lemon, but all places around there charge the same for it without offering the same quality of service nor accepting credit card.

Great place, great good. They have an amazing cheeseburger 🍔 here. Tastes like an American burger. Fries are good and the beer is cold. Love sitting here watching the malecon and beach.

Great place for dinner if you are visiting Salinas. The wait staff was friendly, efficient and helpful. The food was delicious and cooked well. Drinks are mixed perfectly. Being able to sit right on the ocean is nice as well. The one issue is the price. Compared to most other places in Salinas the price is high but still not as high as US prices.

Ordered a crab cannoli. It tasted alright, but the crab was obviously canned and had the consistency of baby food. Most disturbing, however, was that my friend had a fish dish and got violently ill. After speaking to some locals, we learned that this place had a reputation for food sickness.

When for breakfast by the time it was delivered it was almost lunch time so slow. When asked how long it would take, I was answered by a very rude man. Ordered the $4 shrimp apanado almuerzo. Started off with the asparagus soup, which was very tasty. The almuerzo plate was large, with a big portion of white rice, crispy fries, and an excellent salad with cucumber, green beans, shredded lettuce and think sliced beets. But, I didn't care for the shrimp. They were butterflied, heavily breaded and overcooked. A disappointment.

It's hard to find good Mexican food outside of Mexico but this is pretty good. I was impressed. I will return for sure. It is tex-mex.

Food is good - not great - but would deserve 5 stars if it were cheap. I have to strongly disagree with the other review on here though, the meals weren't cheap at all. The meal attached cost 14.50$ with another 4.50$ for a jar of juice. Think for yourself if you believe that's cheap in Ecuador. Additionally, there has been an argument in the back of the restaurant (hidden from most of the guests) where one of the staff repeatedly physically attacked her (presumed) daughter out of frustration. I personally detest such "parenting practices" but didn't let it influence my rating. Have both this and the price in mind when you decide whether you want to eat here.

Just what I expected from a Mexican restaurant in Salinas. Strike one: no chips and salsa we're served with the meal. Strike two: I tried the chicken enchiladas. The chicken was cubed and had no sauces inside the enchiladas. The tortilla shells we're handmade but we're doughy and undercooked. The red sauce was creamy like tomato soup. Strike three: the rice and black beans were completely tasteless and rice was simple white rice. The only saving grace was the guacamole, which was quite tasty and fresh. I would have given a 2 rating had it not been for the guacamole. Sorry, I can't recommend this place.

When our food came out, there was sour cream, which I don't like, drizzled all over my food, and then after trying to wipe and scrap that off, I cut into mine and it was chicken not beef. We went to this restaurant on a recommendation. The restaurant is behind the supermarket on the side street, the entrance was locked, the beep to get in. This was a very hot night as we entered I asked if they have a fan, i was told no but you can eat on the grass it is cooler. So we would be eating under the stars. The location is A1 smack dab in the heart of the strip. Service is hit and miss in Ecuador. Rang the doorbell twice no answer. The beer is pricey 330ml $3 (a 1 litre bottle is $3 in most towns). The BBQ wings were good - the Buffalo were bizarre: akin to turkey gravy and herbs. No kitchen staff at that hour could explain things. I'll definitely come back here for the view.

I used to like Chescos so much and I am very sad to report that the place changed a lot, for worse. The restobar is their main priority now, which means loud music with a lot of bass (disco-like) till late at night, every night! We especially came during the week, thinking that the parties are Thursday through Saturday but it was a mistake. And the manager won’t give us our money back so that we can change to some place more peacefull. Or even change a room for us to be from the other side of the building and so protected from the sounds a bit. His only offer was a room without a window, tv or internet access. He handed us ear plugs saying that this should help… Apart from that the hot water does not work most of the time. When it works it’s only very hot or very cold - which means that you practically cannot use it anyway, unless you want your skin to peel off. The cleaniness is not the same anymore either - I have ants in the bedroom and in the bathroom… so very disappointed. The staff is not much help, they ignore me asking for support most of the time. And the manager tells me that this place was always a party place and he informed on the phone about it (he said about the live music Thurs-Sat, I didnt know its party every day..). It would be just so much better for both parties if they just gave us our money back and let us go somewhere else but thats not part of their policy apparently. Going on 3-days vacation was such a highlight for me and now I am just sad that I cannot relax and regenerate like I thought I would. Unless you are looking for a party place its really not recommended.

This place is more of a nightclub than a Hotel/Hostel. Stayed on a Wed/Thurs night and the music was so LOUD, until 2:30am. You can feel the bass beating throughout your entire body. We also saw a man get knocked unconscious by a beer bottle being smashed over his head because he was asking a girl for a cigarette. Be careful here. We've been in Ecuador for five days now and this is by far the best food we've tried. The regular menu and separate higher-priced chef's menu each have an incredible variety of options. We tried four different dishes and each was excellent, with particular shout-outs for the grilled octopus and the goat stew. The wine was reasonably priced and enjoyable.

Oh, this place. What a jewel of a restaurant! We ventured out here for dinner last night, which happened to be our first night in Salinas. This is a legitimate middle eastern restaurant that has been in business for 16 years. This alone is testament to its delicious food. When we walked in we were greeted by the kind owner, Bilal, who happens to be from Damascus. He recommended a few things for us to start with and he was spot on with his selections. We ordered hummus with pita and it was delicious and creamy, notably some of the best hummus I've ever had in my life. The pita was warmed and delicious. For dinner we each ordered the chicken shawarma and I cannot adequately express just how delicious it was. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and all four of us were ooing and ahhing at our table after our first bite of this delicious shawarma. We were presented with three dipping sauces, each of them unique in their own way. We really enjoyed sampling each one on the shawarma and noting how it changed the flavor in the most wonderful of ways. We ordered a salad in addition to our food and it was beautiful, big and delicious. I swear I could smell the good quality olive oil used on the salad. We each had a bottled water to drink. There are other drink selections available. We ordered four pieces of baklava to go for our dessert. It did not disappoint. It was flaky and flavorful and we wished we ordered more. The prices were very reasonable. We spent about $10/pp for all that we ordered and it was well worth it. Please, please don't miss this dining delight in Salinas!

When you go to Salinas in 10 years and decide to park on Malecon and walk to a restaurant at random. And we are glad we chose Los Helechos. From the street it gave us a good vibe. For the price they are charging I would expect more. By Gringo standards that price was not much but for hard working locals it was pricey. For the price we paid I just expected more.
