Specialty Museums
Nestled within the ancient city of Side in Turkey, Side Museum is a small yet captivating attraction housed in a Roman Bathhouse. The museum showcases relics and art from nearby excavations, offering visitors a unique opportunity to step into the rich history and vibrant culture of the region. Among the remains of the Roman and Byzantine periods that can be explored are walls, gates, basilicas, agoras, fountains, temples of Apollo and Athena, among others.
The layout is impressive: colonnaded streets, a well-preserved agora, and fragments of once-majestic buildings scattered throughout. It’s worth paying the €10pp to view the museum and the archeological sites!

This museum is NOT wheelchair friendly, only if you have very big all terain wheels. Otherwise this can be a very painful experience. Do not try this if you suffer from pain. The staff does try to help you but this is even a challenge as an ambulatory wheelchair user with back pain and strong pain killers.. The toilet was looking very nasty. There are seats if you need a rest in between, normal toilets are okay.
Carmina G — Google review
This is a small and partly open-air museum in the Side ruins, included in the ticket with the theatre and forum. Ticket is free for children and €10 for adults. It’s well worth €10 if the theatre is open. The theatre is currently closed (2025) so you get less for your money buy in my opinion, it’s still worth buying for the museum and forum. The museum is a lovely, ambient place with very nice exhibits from Side. It has a nice gift shop (where you can and should haggle, despite being listed price). The museum will take you about an hour at most to get through.
Iqbal M — Google review
Do not put off going here because it's called a 'museum', and, stereotypically, museums are indoor places with artifacts in glass cases. Mostly, this is a wonderful kind of sculpture garden, overlooking the sea, with plenty of benches and seating areas to sit and relax in the sun (or shade) while you admire the precious carvings and artifacts taken from the various local archaeological sites, to be preserved and protected. Inside the old Roman bath building, there is a collection of smaller items: coins, metal and clay artifacts, (in glass cabinets!) plus statues and a very impressive section of a marble facade. Information about artifacts was given in Turkish and English language - I didn't notice if there were other languages. There was also fascinating panelling on the wall between the cafe and the toilets about the old Side language, including the Side alphabet. There is a lovely little shop/cafe for refreshments, with a terrace overlooking the promenade and the sea. Didem, who works there, was very knowledgeable and helpful, and helped me identify various characters depicted in statues, carvings and coins. A brilliant little exhibition!

Definitely worth the visit. It's not a big museum, but it's nicely done.

Joint ticket for museum and archeological site ~ 10€ definitely worth it. Exciting to be on a working site and it wasn’t too difficult to see their strategy for restoration. We didn’t have a guided tour but I guess there is a lot of interesting information being revealed about Side’s history

Ancient Ruins
Side Ancient City, meaning "pomegranate," is a charming resort town with modern elements intertwined with ancient ruins. The city was first settled in the 7th century BC and gained fame for its involvement in slave trading. Despite being crowded during peak season, it offers a quieter and reflective experience off-season. Visitors can explore the well-preserved ruins of Side, such as the Temple of Apollo, Amphitheater, and Ancient City Walls.
Our hotel was just a few minutes walk from the Ancient city. Its beautiful by day and night! There are a lot of shops and restaurants also or you can walk between the sea the old city. Currently there is some preserving work ongoing and you can't go inside the amphitheater. It's nice to hear also the sea while walking among the ruins. Worthwhile to see when in Side!
Roberto K — Google review
Beautiful area built around large area of preserved Roman ruins. Excellent views and lovely places to eat & drink. Drawbacks? Can be very busy especially in the evenings and nothing is cheap! But, after those brief negative comments, you MUST VISIT. Suggestion (1): Walk down through the ruins before sunset to appreciate the ruins (although they do become lit after dark). Enjoy a drink and the sunset followed by a roam around the shops. If you then don't fancy the walk back just take the golf buggy back (€4 for up to 6 people as of June 25) up to the top where you started. Suggestion (2): From Side beach front, walk along promenade (lovely 20-25 minute walk with a few nice bars/restaurants on the way. On this walk always follow the coast (don't fork to the left at any point) and you will arrive at the harbour. Before heading into the town, continue across the harbour and around until you see the Roman pillars (The Temple of Apollo). Brilliant for a sunset picture.

Nice place for an evening walk if you are around Side. Area is filled with historical architecture, shops and restaurants. There is something for everyone to enjoy be it Turkish ice-cream or Turkish tea/masala or souvenir or dinner out.

Side Antik Kenti undeniably holds immense historical significance, and the sheer scale of its ruins is impressive. Walking amongst the remnants of a once-thriving Roman port city is an experience that should be captivating. However, my recent visit was tinged with disappointment. A significant number of key historical structures, including parts of the impressive theatre, were unfortunately closed for restoration. While I appreciate the effort to preserve these sites, it limited the overall experience and left much to be imagined rather than directly observed. Adding to the frustration was the noticeable amount of litter scattered around some of the monuments, detracting from their ancient grandeur. It's disheartening to see such a valuable historical site not being kept pristine. Perhaps the biggest detractor, though, is the overwhelming presence of shops and restaurants. While some commerce is expected, they felt like they overshadowed the ancient ruins, creating a commercial bazaar atmosphere that often eclipsed the historical value of the location. It was difficult to immerse oneself in the past with so much modern-day activity vying for attention. Side Ancient City has incredible potential, but improvements in site accessibility, cleanliness, and a better balance between commerce and conservation are much needed for a truly fulfilling historical experience.

Not a well maintained antique town. Still lots to put together. Museum is good but small
Can E — Google review
Side is one of those places that surprises you from the very first step. It has an incredible charm – a combination of history, sea and Mediterranean ease. The city is vibrant but not overwhelming. The air is filled with the scent of the sea and spices from local pubs, and the view of the turquoise water is simply breathtaking. I only regret one thing – that I didn't spend more time there. It's a place that stays in your head and heart for a long time. 💙
Basia S — Google review
Around the amphitheatre are numerous ruins and colonnaded streets. These can be viewed free of charge with good exterior views of the amphitheatre. They cover a reasonable area with excavations ongoing nearby. The ticket inside included admission to side museum a few minutes walk away. This is a large structure in good condition.

Dating back to the 2nd century BCE, this grand structure features columns and marble remains that once adorned its three-story facade. The Nymphaeum was dedicated to the gods of nature and spring and was considered a symbol of eminence in its time.
Truly is a wonder of the world and we must protect it ! It’s like an Indiana Jones movie the ruins are like on one path and easy to follow ! I would see the ruins at 6am when no one is around . At night time is full of hundreds of tourists. Day time if you can bear the heat ha ha ! Enjoy the pictures & videos !

The Apollon Temple is a picturesque waterfront location featuring ancient temple ruins with iconic columns and stone structures. The Roman architecture is stunning, making it a must-visit destination for fans of ancient architecture in the region or elsewhere. The town of Side offers visitors the chance to explore its lovely shops, restaurants, and harbor. This pedestrian-friendly town also features a large free car park 10 minutes away on foot. The Roman ruins are worth visiting both during the day and at night when they're illuminated.
The towering columns of the temple remain impressively intact, standing guard over the Mediterranean Sea. The temple is just a few minutes’ walk from Side’s historic center or marina. After the temple, stroll along the harbor or through Side’s charming old town to round out your visit. The Temple of Apollo in Side is much more than just a historical site—it’s an atmospheric experience. Whether you're a history buff, a photographer, or simply someone seeking a moment of peace by the sea, this temple delivers on all fronts. I highly recommend making time in your Side itinerary for a visit.
Bharat D — Google review
A beautiful place! The atmosphere of ancient civilization is literally everywhere (!) around you. The route to the Temple of Apollo through the old town of Side is an incredible experience in itself - you literally walk above the ancient city, viewing its ruins through the glass floor beneath your feet. However, I recommend going a bit earlier, perhaps around 5 p.m., because after sunset, the number of tourists is overwhelming, and taking a photo in front of the temple (without hundreds of tourists in the background) is nearly impossible.
Wojciech F — Google review
Amazing historical remains and well preserved. Peaceful on the coastline and easy walking distance from Side hotels or dolmus station. I used Beam scooters and got here easily and zipped around to see it all - cheap and easy. Nice walkways and signage with history. Feels magical and mystical. Nice walkable and enjoyable ruins with shops and bars dotted around nearby.

A Must-Visit Gem on the Turkish Coast 🇹🇷 Side is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. This coastal town offers a stunning mix of history, culture, and vibrant modern life that makes it truly unforgettable. The Temple of Apollo is a breathtaking highlight — a magnificent tribute to a lost empire. Standing among its ancient columns, you can truly appreciate the grandeur and power of the civilizations that once thrived here. It’s a must-see for history lovers and photographers alike. The town itself is exceptionally clean, with fantastic shopping, charming streets, and a wide range of bars and restaurants catering to every taste. It also feels incredibly safe, with a noticeable and reassuring police presence throughout the area. If you’re holidaying anywhere along this part of Turkey, Side is absolutely worth the trip. I personally recommend visiting in the early evening — it’s quieter, the buses are less crowded, and you can enjoy the beauty of the town as it begins to come alive. That said, the later it gets, the more vibrant and energetic the atmosphere becomes, making it perfect for a lively night out as well. In short — don’t miss it!
Seb C — Google review
Short visit in Side for 5 hours- taxi transfer from hotel to Side and back (in our opinion better than by exchanging buses from hotel-Manavgat center-Side center-return). Harbour area is really nice to be visited, for shopping and eating- many alternatives to be choosed
Viorel G — Google review
Stunning Ancient Ruins by the Sea in Side! 🏛️🌅 The Temple of Apollo in Side is absolutely breathtaking — especially at sunset when the sky turns golden behind the historic columns. It’s one of the most iconic spots in the area and perfect for photos or just soaking in the ancient atmosphere. Located right by the sea, it’s easy to reach and surrounded by charming cafes and coastal views. A must-visit if you’re in Side!

Beach
Side Beach, also known as Eastern Beach, is a hidden gem located along Barbaros Caddesi. It offers a serene and relaxing atmosphere away from the tourist crowds. The beach provides affordable entrance prices and features a not-so-crowded area where visitors can enjoy the sound of waves and indulge in some snorkeling. Additionally, amenities such as snack and drink vendors, showers, and dressing rooms are available for convenience.
Fed up with being surrounded by 1000s of people on your crowded beach that comes with your all-inclusive hotel? Wander over to the east side of the Side peninsula and you'll find this secluded gem. In Oct 2024, the sunbeds were 100 lira a day, something like £2.25 which is an absolute bargain compared to other beaches around Europe. There's a bar on the beach, WCs, a single changing room and an outside shower. There's an area of the sea that's roped off for exclusive use of those that have paid to use the beach. Good sand, clear water and great spot for watching the world go by. Significantly more calm and relaxing than the beaches on the west side of the Side peninsula. The only downside is that there's probably no more than about 40 or so sunbeds, so space is limited.
C T — Google review
Local beach with umbrella and all necessary food&drinks @ very reasonable Price. Helpfull staff very friendly.so nice sand and water to swim.
Aytül K — Google review
Amazing small beach with bar with nice staff, average priced beer and very cheap water / soft drinks. Very cute small kittens there which were a highlight. Water is warm, is clear once you move past the shingles on the shore and nice sandy beach. Highlighy recommend

I loved this small beach hidden from all the tourists. The entrance prices are very affordable and the atmosphere relaxing. You can hear the waves and enjoy the beach in a not so crowded area. It’s good for a little bit of snorkeling. Possibility to buy snacks and drinks. Shower available and dressing room. The sand could be a little bit more clean. This is a recommendation to all visitors: take your trash with you! For smokers: The sand is not your ashtray!

small local beach with sun bed and parasol for 150TL per person. most likely local people and small group of tourist. possibilities for bathroom and shower, small cafe with soda’s, thee, nuts and grilled cheese sandwiches. reasonable prices compared to old town.

Lovely restored old arched bridge, its quite unique as its dog legged and not straight over the river. They have done a great job of the restoration. It's just a shame that there is so much rubbish, glass and plastic bottles on the floor, it need tidy. Also some one has been lighting fires on the bridge and around the bridge which is a mess. Place needs looking after.

(Translated by Google) The Temple of Tyche has a very interesting architecture, which is why it attracts so much attention. It's a nine-eyed fountain, and I would have loved to have seen it when it was first built. As far as I know, Tyche temples, unlike the Temple of Apollo, were not just for worship; they were sacred protection for the city in Roman cities. In every city, Rome built sacred protection temples. Rome was synonymous with ostentation. Of course, the Temple of Tyche isn't the focus here, so I definitely can't recommend seeing it. Go see it and come back. It's the ancient city of Side. It's already seen while visiting Side. Side, with its ancient beaches, social structures, Temple of Apollo, theater, and museum, is a must-see. I definitely recommend seeing Side. Her şehirde Roma şehre kutsal koruma tapınakları yapardı.Roma gösteriş demekti.Konumuz burada Tyche tapınağı değil tabi, onun için kesinlikle gör veremem.Git onu gör geri gel saçmalıktır.Antik kent Side'dir.Side gezilirken zaten görülüyor.Side, antik plajları,sosyal yapıları,Apollon tapınağı,Tiyatrosu,Müzesi ile tamamen gezilmelidir.Side için kesinlikle GÖR veriyorum.

(Translated by Google) An extraordinary and impressive temple. Unfortunately, it cannot be seen closely as the excavation team's work continues. Although it is known that the work progresses slowly due to the nature of the excavations, a solution can be found to see this beautiful and unique temple more closely. The round planned (monopteros) temple of the goddess Tykhe is located in the agora54. While the temple was deployed, the agora It was built slightly offset from the center to the southwest, rather than right in the centre. Here, when the temple-agora relationship is examined in detail, it is seen that the agora was planned together with the theater. Perhaps the temple was positioned in the initial planning, but later due to changes made in the plan, the temple had to shift from the axis of the agora. Another possibility is that, when the foundation surveys of the building were carried out, it was determined that the most suitable ground for the temple was in this part of the agora. Coin depictions of the goddess are in the form of the Tykh of Antioch sitting inside a round-planned temple. For this reason, goddess worship must have been brought to the city during the Seleucid rule. The cult of Tykhe must have been widely adopted during the Roman Period, as it continued the Hellenistic tradition.

Nice and quiet place. Be aware of some locals wanted help you and tell all about this place. In the end they ask money.

Beware of over friendly locals! The only reason I'm rating low is because we were forced to pay some local "guide" £20, he had a friend waiting for us in one of the hospital rooms. Watch out for the old guy. He was touchy with my partner and he's not that friendly when it comes to the end of his tour. Aggressive is an understatement, we didn't report it to the police because all we wanted to do was get back to the hotel. It spoiled our day and upset us both.

A Place with a lot of history. It's a must see.
Venera T — Google review
Description: The building, currently identified by many researchers as a Byzantine hospital, was built during the 6th century AD. There are two main arguments suggesting the function of this building. Firstly, it is confirmed by the written source that emperor Justinian initiated the construction of a hospital in Pamphylia, and a healer named Kosma was supposed to be working in this hospital. However, the exact location of this building has not been specified and thus it is plausible to assume that it was built in Side. The second argument comes from the projects of hospitals built in later times by the Seljuk architects. They were constructed on a very similar plan and thus one may argue that the hospital in Side was used as an example.
