Aquarium
Nature & Parks
Monterey Bay Aquarium is a renowned attraction located on a rugged coastline, featuring diverse exhibits such as otter habitats and touch pools. Tim Thomas, an esteemed historian and curator, has been involved with the aquarium and other local institutions. Visitors can also enjoy a delightful breakfast at Schooners Coastal Kitchen while overlooking the bay, savoring dishes like Dungeness crab Benedict or oak smoked salmon & avocado toast. The aquarium offers an enriching experience for nature enthusiasts and families alike.
The Monterey Bay Aquarium is a fantastic place for kids to learn while having fun. From the moment we entered, the exhibits kept the children completely engaged. They were amazed by the colorful fish swimming all around and loved watching the playful penguins waddle and dive. The touch pool was a highlight—being able to gently touch a blue ray was both exciting and educational. Another favorite was the sea otters, who charmed everyone with their playful splashing and rolling in the water. The aquarium does a wonderful job of combining hands-on learning with entertainment, making it both fun and memorable for kids and adults alike. It’s the perfect place for families to explore the wonders of the ocean together.

Instantly a favorite. Purchased tickets online which made entry painless and quick. We loved all the unique exhibits. Every area of the aquarium had something different to offer, from art installations, kelp forrest, deep sea creatures, otters, outdoor area with seating, views and so much more. We loved that they sold snacks and beverages (alcoholic & non alcoholic). Passing time watching sea birds, listening to the ocean and searching for sea otters at their outdoor area was just blissful. The entire facility was absolutely beautiful. We paid $180 for our tickets and we definitely plan on returning.
Sarah C — Google review
My girls friends and I came into town and bought tickets in advance because we knew this was a must see and it did not disappoint. We started with the feeding of the sea otters which was so cute. Then we stopped for a quick coffee at the cafe. Everything in their cafe looked delicious. We enjoyed the many exhibits and enjoyed the touch tanks. There was do many things you could touch and see up close. I would highly recommend going. Couple tips buy your tickets online in advance and get there early it gets really crowded!

A man called Doug Doug recommended me to this place so I was in the area and decided to go. First of all the surrounding area was very nice there was a car show in the area so some luxury cars blessed my eyes. Now on to the aquarium beautiful place, there was a nice route to follow. The sea otters were definitely a highlight of my trip. In addition there was many interactive areas for children to use. Overall I was my favourite part about my trip to America. I would recommend anyone who is passing though the area to pop in and see this wonderful aquarium. Rest in peace Rosa the sea otter o7

The Monterey Bay Aquarium is an absolutely world-class institution that I believe is well worth the visit, offering a truly immersive window into the Pacific Ocean's ecosystems. I found that it excels not just as a display of marine life, but as a dedicated center for conservation and education. The standout exhibits, which I saw are beautifully maintained and thoughtfully designed, showcase the region's unique biodiversity. I think the Kelp Forest exhibit is a breathtaking, three-story spectacle, featuring towering fronds that create a dynamic, lush habitat for leopard sharks, wolf-eels, and schools of fish. Equally impressive to me is the massive Open Sea exhibit, where I was able to watch tuna, sea turtles, and dazzling schools of sardines swim past a spectacular 90-foot viewing window, which really emphasized the vastness of the open ocean. A newer, must-see addition is the Into the Deep exhibition, which successfully brings the mysterious creatures of the dark abyss to light. Beyond the major tanks, I noticed the Sea Otter exhibit is consistently a visitor favorite, allowing you to watch the playful, charismatic otters romp and groom. The mesmerizing Jellyfish exhibit was also an ethereal highlight for me, using controlled lighting to showcase the delicate beauty and graceful pulsing of various jelly species. The aquarium is perched right on the edge of the bay, and the Great Tide Pool and ocean-view decks provided a wonderful opportunity for me to spot wild marine life, including sea otters and sometimes even whales. While I know admission is on the higher end, I feel the quality of the exhibits and the aquarium's non-profit conservation mission justify the cost. Be aware that the aquarium can get extremely crowded, especially on weekends and holidays. To make the most of your trip, I recommend buying tickets online in advance and aiming to visit on a weekday or arrive right at opening time to experience the most popular exhibits, like the Kelp Forest and Sea Otters, before the large crowds arrive. I would plan to spend at least four hours to fully appreciate the two main floors and attend one of the informative animal feedings or programs. I can say this is more than just an aquarium; it's an unforgettable educational experience and a vital force in ocean protection.
Amy A — Google review
It was way better when I was younger, but still a great experience for my son. The sea otters were so fun to watch! There was a tall man who was very friendly and helpful, which made our visit even better. The only downside is that the price is pretty high.
Awanna S — Google review
The Monterey Bay Aquarium is truly world class. The exhibits are very well cared for, thoughtfully designed, and provide an incredible opportunity to learn about marine life and conservation. I especially appreciate how accessible the aquarium is for all ages and how it inspires children to start learning about the ocean early in life. That said, the aquarium is often very crowded, which can make it difficult to move through and see the exhibits comfortably. Many of the displays are geared toward children, so if you are hoping for a calm and quiet day observing marine life, this may not be the best fit. It has more of a lively, theme-park feel than a peaceful experience. Overall, I think everyone should visit at least once. The aquarium does amazing work, and their efforts to educate the public about ocean health and marine biology are inspiring. Just be prepared for crowds and lots of families.
Kristin B — Google review
So many amazing marine animals to see here and it's really beautiful! There were only two sea otters though, and I wish there were more!! The aquarium also has several cafés with food and drinks, plus gift shops that kids will love. Overall, it was a really enjoyable visit, but just keep in mind that it does get pretty crowded on weekends😂

Cannery Row is a historic street in Monterey, lined with old sardine-canning factories that have been transformed into boutiques, restaurants, and hotels. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities such as dining at 25 different restaurants, including sports bars and fine seafood establishments. The area also offers opportunities for golfing, billiards, walking, cycling, kayaking, spa treatments, wine tasting, and more.
A perfect place for day outing from Bay Area. Getting 2 hours free roadside parking could be difficult. I paid $30 for whole day parking. Aquarium is 5 minutes walking from this parking. Small town, restaurants, gift shops, beach, aquarium you may enjoy here. More like historical valued city.
GetawayGirl — Google review
It's a nice place to shop and dine. I just wish the weather was a lot warmer. It's very chilly by the ocean, like 64 degrees, but 30 minutes out, it's 80 degrees.

Very touristy but some nice shops and good atmosphere. You often see cool and old cars driving around this place.

Meh. If you like shopping for souvenirs and over priced food you would like this place. Pretty much the same as every other souvenir shop area but it does have a great view.
Anna H — Google review
Nice little downtown area Lots of restaurants for seafood lovers
Sajid Q — Google review
Gorgeous seaside views, fantastic restaurants, quaint shops; Cannery Row is an iconic oceanfront boardwalk attraction that is definitely worth a visit when you're in Monterey. Upon approach, it may seem that there isn't all that much to it, but once you're on the boardwalk, you realize that a lot of the good stuff is tucked away, a little out of sight, so exploration rewards the traveler. Apparently the aquarium here is also quite the draw, although we didn't pop in during our brief stay here. Lastly, the old Fisherman's Wharf, a little ways to the south-southeast, is almost an extension of all the things that make Cannery Row worth checking out: more shops, more restaurants, and more history. All together, one of the best attractions, and most exciting tourist destinations, in all of Monterey!

Old Fisherman's Wharf is a bustling waterfront destination in Monterey, located near Cannery Row. The area is filled with seafood restaurants, souvenir shops, galleries, and candy stores. It's a popular spot for tourists and offers activities like glass-bottomed boat tours and whale-watching excursions. Nearby dining options include sustainable seafood at Coastal Kitchen, baked goods at Alta Bakery and Cafe, and Italian cuisine at Montrio Bistro.
This wharf shopping, dining, and water adventure spot includes whale watching adventures. As part of the Monterey Coastal Trail, this historic shopping mall includes souvenirs, apparel, candy, sit down restaurants. And of course ocean viewing all around. One of the interesting parts of this tour is the sign at one restaurants that says NO STROLLERS. NO HIGH CHAIRS no STROLLERS. with no noisy kids allowed and just a few doors down another eatery sign says YES STROLLERS YES HIGH CHAIRS. YES STROLLERS so take your pick. We found great soft Monterey sweatshirts and saltwater taffy. And jumbo candy apples. I found caramel corn too. And the Zoltar the machine wants to tell me my fortune for a small sum. Great seafood eateries. The local theatre appears to be closed with a sign for a 2017 show. Lots of fun walking around and being able to stroll with ocean viewing Accessible entry to most venues Van accessible paid parking in garage.

I booked a whale watching excursion with Discovery Whale watching. I was not disappointed. We seen all kinds of whales. I was starving and the crew was kind enough to suggest Cafe Fina in the main row of the Old Wharf. If you mention the excursion they give a free cheesy garlic bread. It did not disappoint. Delicious, fresh Italian food. They are a long time restaurant thats been there over 30 years. A must try if you can.

Old Fisherman’s Wharf is a charming spot filled with great restaurants, shops, and unforgettable views of the sea. A highlight of our visit was seeing a whale and sea lions in their natural habitat, which made the experience truly special. The atmosphere is lively yet relaxing, perfect for strolling, enjoying seafood, and creating lasting memories.
Tom T — Google review
We did whale watching tour here. It was amazing experience. We pre booked our trip and really enjoyed the 3 hour tour. The deck has so many restaurants, shops. You will get most of the stuff here. Overall quite a good experience

Fisherman’s Wharf in Monterey is always a fun stop! Great place to hang out and people-watch—especially spotting the tourists braving the weather in shorts. 😄 The restaurants serve up some fantastic food (can’t go wrong with the clam chowder!), and the views are absolutely picture-perfect. You can even spot seals lounging around, which makes the experience even better.
Gina R — Google review
It’s small and charming, like you’re stepping back in time. However, with so many other options with more selection of shops and scenery, this one wasn’t a favorite. I preferred Cannery Row.
Rose T — Google review
I absolutely love this area! I come here whenever I can great restaurants beautiful views. Places to shop and whale watching is offered as well.
Davisu E — Google review
It was nice to come back here again. This Wharf offers an assortment of restaurants and shops. A few candy and ice cream shops. Seafood galore! Souvenir shops at every turn, it seems! Individual vendors at the entrance. It provides a stage for talented musicians. It's even a popular hangout for wildlife from seagulls, pigeons, squirrels, otters, and sea lions. Lots to see and do for sure!

The Monterey Museum of Art, located in a historic estate, showcases contemporary galleries and a permanent collection of nearly 10,000 works of art. The museum's building is steeped in California history and offers visitors a glimpse into the state's artistic legacy. Additionally, the Agricultural History Projects mission is to preserve and promote the history of agriculture on the Central Coast.
Great local art museum. It is not big, you can probably spend 1-1.5 hours here. They show 3-4 exhibitions at any given time. The permanent collection is big, but only some of it is on display usually as a part of some exhibit. The exhibits change every 3-4 months, so you can visit it every 3 months and see new art.
Anna A — Google review
We had a great time at the museum. There was easy parking on the street. The sculptures in the park on the side were very pleasing. We were greeted and oriented to the museum by Kaliya who was wonderful even during our visit by making sure we were enjoying our time. I loved the free clipboard at the front to take while we wandered. The exhibits were phenomenal and well curated.

This place is a GEM! We have really enjoyed every visit and now we are members. Everything they have in their current exhibits is wonderful, fascinating, and inspirational. I keep thinking back on what I saw.

This was such a fun little museum. The pictures are absolutely amazing (some very talented people showcased here) and the ambiance is great.
Jamie L — Google review
Well, I did want to see The Jane Kim exhibit. It was small, interactive and interesting. But the staff hovering was a bit much. If we have to wear masks and socially distance (per signage) they should do the same. At $15 each ticket not exactly a bargain to spend an hour. If you go, stop here first, so if you are disappointed you can be cheered up by the very large, very FREE ocean and flora and birds! I saw a Peta sticker on a car outside. I mention this because in the CA exhibit was a mission on whalebone--ouch. I thought the flora fauna exhibit was very dull. Penelope Gottlieb's piece puzzling. To me showcasing Audubon as reference misses the mark. However, the pottery with butterfly the best piece in that exhibit. So my adventure ended very sadly because Colton Hall too was closed. It is across the street.

Discover the rich history of Monterey by visiting the Monterey State Historic Park, which is home to a collection of significant historic houses and buildings that have played important roles in the region's heritage. The park features 12 buildings, including the Custom House, one of California's oldest government buildings, and several homes that now serve as public museums offering guided tours. As you explore the area marked by yellow-tiled markers, you'll learn about California's history.
Explored Monterey State Historic Park and visited the Pacific House Museum during a trip to Monterey in late June 2024. Perfect area to learn about Old Monterey. The park has many historic buildings to explore. During my visit to Pacific House Museum there was a fantastic collection of California Native Basket Weaving (Basketry) on the top floor. Guided and self-guided tour options are available.

Should be named Dog Poop park. I was so disappointed to see off leash dogs and large piles of dog poop everywhere. Yellow patches of dead grass from the urine. This park has signs banning dogs but inconsiderate people have ruined it and no one seems to enforce the laws. Absolutely disgusting and filthy place that has so much potential for beauty and historical significance.

Parks
Dennis The Menace Playground, named after the famous comic book character, is a spacious park with various activities such as a maze and rock climbing wall. Located near shops and restaurants, the playground offers large grassy areas for socializing and playing sports, along with picnic tables. Children can enjoy multiple play structures including slides, climbing frames, swings, bridges, tunnels, see-saws, springy animals and ride-on vehicles.
An Absolute Blast! This playground is Incredible! Wow! We just visited [Playground Name] and it was extreme fun! This isn't just a playground; it's an entire adventure zone. What really stands out is the sheer number of diverse play areas. There's something for every age, with structures thoughtfully spaced out so kids can explore safely and independently. The huge roller slide was a massive hit – a definite highlight that brought out screams of joy! They also have an impressive variety of swings, including a special swing that accommodates both an adult and a toddler, which was fantastic for our little one. Beyond the play structures, the amenities are top-notch. The restrooms were clean (a big win for parents!), and there was plenty of parking, making the visit stress-free from the moment we arrived. The overall setting of the park is simply amazing. It's beautifully surrounded by a serene pond where people were enjoying boating and paddleboarding, adding to the relaxed and vibrant atmosphere. We could easily spend hours here. Highly, highly recommend [Playground Name] for an unforgettable day of play!
Bhaumik M — Google review
I've lived here five years and have passed this playground and park probably hundreds of times. Finally stopped by and wish I had earlier. Easy and close parking. It feels safe, fenced with a good mix of people and ages. Can't get on the train engine, but fun to look at. A fenced maze with shrubbery along the fence was fun. My favorite is the swinging bridge. Pond next to the park often has paddle boats which are fun to watch. Parking does get a little crowded when there is a baseball game. Highly recommend a visit!
Colin S — Google review
First went here as an elementary age kid and got to bring my 8 month old 20 years later. It's an incredible playground park with various climbing structures, swings, a suspension bridge, tunnels, and plenty of open space for running around. This really is one of the best playgrounds I've ever been to, and the design is incredible.
James K — Google review
A massive playground for kids. Baseball field and concession stand for fresh hot food and cold drinks. If not McDonald's nearby. This place is awesome. I had a fresh burger at the concessions and it was better than McDonald's. Props to the City of Monterey and those who help build this amazing park.
Steve — Google review
This park was so cute. Lots of structures for little ones to explore and run around. My 2 yr old did not want to leave
Emilia M — Google review
This park is SPECTACULAR! Tons of play structure that are both fun and engaging, including a small maze. The park is huge! It has a beautiful pond that wraps around it, complete with giant petal powered swan boats and docks along the park. It is both family and pet friendly. There are ducks you can feed, an area to picnic. It is very clean and safe. I can't say enough good things about this park! It is definitely worth a visit, if you are in the area.
Christina F — Google review
You can tell this park is dated, but it has held up well. It's timeless. It's got its own magic. My son became possessed by the magic of joy it brings all children who enter its grounds.

Lovers Point Park, also known as Lovers Point State Marine Reserve, is a charming coastal park located in Pacific Grove. Spanning over four acres, this park offers a picturesque landscape with grassy lawns, sandy beaches, and rocky formations. Visitors can enjoy various activities such as swimming, surfing, fishing, and beach volleyball. The park also features amenities like a children's swimming pool and a concrete fishing pier.
Had very low expectations but it was a very entertaining park. Next to the lovers Point Rock there's ton of squirrels and seagulls and they seem to be very used to humans so they're just playing around which is super fun to watch again. Next to the rocks there is a tide pool which creates a great opportunity to go and observe little hermit crabs and muscles and all kinds of sea creatures. There's a couple of snack and Cafe options around as well. Roll really lively nice park with nice views and slightly out of the ordinary entertainment
Selen B — Google review
The view is beautiful. Sometimes you can see dolphins jumping around in the bay and having a good time. Definitely my favorite place to go tide pooling and the sand is really nice. It’s crushed granite instead of being a typical sandy feeling beach which appeals to me more.
Elizabeth G — Google review
My wife and I had a beautiful lunch at the park. But be warned there are lots of squirrels and seagulls hanging out looking for a free lunch. Luckily for us, we had one protecting us while we ate our lunch. And we did reward him for the protection. Other than that, a beautiful place to hang out and enjoy the scenery. Life is beautiful!

Loved the view on a beautiful clear day throughout Monterey/pacific Grove. If you get an opportunity to bring a bike or rent one It would be suggested for some great opportunities to see the area from a different perspective.

Lovers Point is a scenic spot with beautiful ocean views and a great place to take a walk or relax by the water. It does get pretty busy on weekends, but it’s still worth the stop. Keep an eye out for the adorable chipmunks running around - they’re everywhere and are fun to watch. The only downside is the lack of clean seating; there’s a lot of bird poop from the seagulls, so finding a clean bench or spot to sit can be tricky. Still, the views and chipmunks make it worth a visit.

Pacific Grove Marine Gardens Park, also known as Lovers Point, is a truly beautiful spot right by the ocean. The views of the coastline are stunning, and the atmosphere is calm and inviting, perfect for a walk, a picnic, or simply relaxing by the water. One of the most charming details is the presence of squirrels that live in the park — they’re fun to watch and add to the friendly, natural vibe of the place. It’s well maintained, family-friendly, and a wonderful stop if you’re exploring Pacific Grove or nearby Monterey.

With a 99% success rate in spotting whales, these tours offer an excellent opportunity to see migrating whale species up close. For an added experience, visitors can opt for VIP upper deck seating at an extra cost.
It was my first time experiencing whale watching. And boy it was completely memorable. I signed up for the 9 am tour, and they started right on time. You should reach the place by 8:15-8:30 for smooth boaring experience. The boat was spacious and clean with a small cafe on board, they charge 20$ extra for the upper deck which I chose not to opt for. The weather wasn’t great for the initial 2 hours with a very dense layer of fog limiting visibility, and could only spot few dolphins along the way. The crew tried there best to spot few whales and very constantly maneuvering the boat around the bay. But right when I had given up, we spotted three humpback whales right next to our boat. They stayed around for 15-20 minutes and we got a pretty close glimpse of these majestic creatures. So my suggestion is to be patient and trust your captain and crew, for they will try their best to make this experience memorable. Tips-sea sickness is pretty common and the ride can get bumpy, so please carry a puke bag along with some candies and medicines if you need them. Carry some layers because it can get extremely cold especially during the early hours.

It was a beautiful day for a 3 hour tour. The tour guides and Captain were all very informative and always keeping an eye out for whales or other sea life. We saw a few orcas and a humpback! Looking forward to coming back during migration to do this tour again! Highly recommend

What an amazing experience we had! The crew and staff that checked us in were very nice, and the deck crew and naturalist were amazing and kept us safe and informed the whole time. Our watching turned into more of a hangout when we spotted a people watching humpback that wanted to spend some time with us. We were awestruck by the curious humpback that was checking out our boat for a good 10 minutes! Jaw dropped and silence while he bobbed back and forth the two sides! This was apparently VERY RARE because humpbacks are not social whales, so we all collectively took it in while it was happening. I got one quick video but just enjoyed being in the moment. He had some stinky breath from eating all those fatty little fish. It’s a smell I won’t forget soon haha Although you may not have our amazing experience, this crew does know how to track whales and show you a good time. 10/10 recommend Princess Whale Watching! We also got to see lots of other marine life (moon jellies, lions, and a bunch of other creatures I forgot the names of😆) bring binoculars, and layers, and sunscreen!

We had an amazing time! We were on the 3:30pm boat and it was perfect. We saw a bunch of humpback whales jumping out of the water, a shark, and a ton of sea lions. Our guide was really nice and had a lot of information about the different animals we were seeing/surrounding area.
Sara E — Google review
We saw so many humpback whales! The guides were great and the boat was easy to navigate. The check in process was easy. I thought it was very reasonably priced as well! The only downside, I wish they took pictures of your watch (especially when upgraded to VIP) that you can buy at the end

3 hour harbor tour.    $75.00 for lower deck, $95.00 for upper deck.   We chose the upper deck with the promise of better viewing.   Plenty of covered and open air seating.    We did have some nice whale spottings later, but the best views at the start of the trip were seen by the crew at the front of the ship, where upper deck passengers were not allowed. Overheard several passengers complaining that the crew did not turn the boat for better customer viewing.  Interesting narration, but crew did not interact with passengers staying in the closed off to passengers' ships bow or inside the bridge.

What a great experience to go whale watching as a local or when you have guests in town. We were able to see about 12 whales with a few flipping their tail that was so fun to watch. Make sure you bring warm gloves and a beanie. Thank you for a fun experience.

We had an amazing experience! From the very beginning to thevend the crew were super nice and the biologist explains super interesting facts about sea animals and the bay. The ship its very nice and comfortable dotn miss out this amazing experience with such an amazin service.

The San Carlos Cathedral (Royal Presidio Chapel) is a historic religious building in California. It was built between 1791 and 1794, and originally served as a chapel for the Spanish Royal Presidio of San Carlos. The cathedral is now open to the public as a tourist attraction.
This Cathedral was a treat to visit. It reminded me of European travels. It is amazing to have something of such age and significance in the United States. I'm grateful that it has been preserved in the Monterey Community. There are several benches outside and beautiful statues.

Such a beautiful historic church. The grotto and surrounding prayer gardens were so awesome. We were able to enter for a daily rosary. Highly recommend this outing if you're visiting.
Courtney W — Google review
My review is not for the active San Carlos Cathedral church services. Instead it's for the Royal Presidio Chapel historic federal landmark. They are both the same building. Currently the San Carlos Cathedral Catholic Church uses the Presidio Chapel. When services are not occurring, visitors can explore the interior and outside facade. There is no charge to walk about, it's free. The present sandstone chapel construction was completed in 1795. The native Americans labors built the chapel. The Monterey Presidio was founded in 1770 as the second of four Spanish Presidios. At that time, the presidio's chapel served for the Spanish soldiers and dignitaries. It's the oldest stone building in California. When walking about the exterior of the chapel take note of the marked lines to the right of the building. Those lines indicate chapel construction (where, what, and when). Directly in the back there is a plaque memorializing where the Oak tree stood in 1770 where Father Junipero Serra broke ground for the chapel construction. The tree was removed in 1905 when it was damaged. But the tree holds important place in Monterey history. In 1602, it is said that Spanish explorer Vizcaíno followed the creek from the Bay and noticed this majestic oak tree. Under that tree he and with the friars, traveling in his expedition, held Mass under the tree and claimed the area for Spain. Father Serra followed Vizcaino's directions to the site in 1770 to establish a mission and presidio. But a year or two later he decided to build the mission in Carmel instead. But the presidio continued with building the chapel. Pieces of the grand tree have been preserved and are located in various local museums. Now let's talk about out the interior. The church doors are left open during the day welcoming all inside. Inside there are paintings and statues including are originals such as the Stations of the Cross, St John, Sorrowful Mother, and Spanish Madonna. As you enter the church, look up and the exterior and take notice of the Our Lady of Guadalupe statue; it's still the original making it the oldest non-indigenous statue in California. Also throwing it out there that there are cameras all over and everything is monitored. So don't be a doofus. Just enjoy and soak in the history.

Colton Hall Museum and Jail is housed in a historic government building constructed between 1847 and 1849. It was designed by U.S. Navy Captain Walter Colton, who served as Monterey's first American Alcalde. The museum showcases the history of Monterey and its significance as the first public building under the American flag in California. Walter Colton's contributions to establishing a fair court system and co-founding California's first newspaper are highlighted at this iconic site.
Historical buildings and nice garden. The old Jail was impressive.

Free parking in front and in the lot in back. The museum is upstairs. Large hall with artifacts and reproductions of the California constitution. Great docent who gave us a tour of the museum. The jail is next door and down stairs, Self guided and fun.

Monterey has a rich history and Colton Hall and the Old Monterey Jail are a "must see." You can see old graffiti scratched into the stones in the back of the jail. If you want, you can go to the museum, or just stroll around the whole area. I love the bear sculptures and the seal of California in front of the buildings. There are different garden areas and a lot of beautiful old stone work.

Not kid friendly at all, my 6 year old walked up the stairs slowly and stood on the balcony to take a picture then was getting ready to walk back down, and the lady came out and said please don’t let them play on the stairs? The Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary, located in Pacific Grove, is a serene haven for thousands of monarch butterflies from October to late February. The sanctuary is nestled within dense forests of pine, cypress, and eucalyptus trees that provide a safe refuge for these endangered creatures during their winter migration. Managed by dedicated volunteers, this nature preserve offers visitors the opportunity to witness the breathtaking sight of monarch butterflies clustering together on the tree tops for protection.
Great little sanctuary. I just wish that they had more funding for maintenance and expansion. As it is, Bob, the caregiver, does an amazing job of doing what he can to bring in new trees for the habitat, and maintain the ones that are there. There are a few bad players that have been attempting to burn the trees 😢. A message to them- you best hope that I'm not watching when you make your next attempt 🗡️

Unfortunately, we visited prior to the arrival of the butterfly migration. With that said, it was still a very beautiful and peaceful place and we truly enjoyed our walk 🦋🦋
Cynthia T — Google review
Nice place where monarchs stop naturally on their migration. There were professional photographers, knowledgeable folks with binoculars, and smart, friendly people willing to help us locate the monarchs and tell us all about them, but they were also visitors. I hope they plant more milk thistle to sustain the monarchs. The listing says it closes at five, but they don’t actually close gates or anything like that. The butterflies just slow down for the day when it’s approaching sunset
Caty W — Google review
Tony, behind the hotel. Saw only a few butterflies which was nice during what must've been the non-butterfly season. Not busy. Saw one deer grazing there too. LOTS of deer around the area as well. Weren't too skiddish. I definitely recommend going to this cute FREE sanctuary.
Aaron S — Google review
Butterfly peak season is Oct-Dec. The short trail through the sanctuary is very well maintained and has been updated recently due to severe storm damage from years past. Activity end of October 2025 was low. It is probably best to stop by during the early afternoon when the sun is out and the butterflies are awake and active. One public bathroom on site. Street parking is available on both entrances.
Andrea K — Google review
This is a very small foot path that runs along side people’s backyards and a hotel. It gets very crowded quickly. The butterflies don’t start flying around until it’s warmer. I went November 1st and they started flying around 10am. I had went earlier in the morning but couldn’t see the butterflies since they were so still and hidden that they looked like leaves. I highly recommend a good camera and binoculars. This was not worth a several hour drive. I only recommend this place if you’re already in the area. It literally is a 2 minute walking path and most the butterflies are in the backyards of homeowners so you have to stare into other peoples property to see the butterflies. There wasn’t very many when I went early November so I recommend waiting u til the end of the month. There isn’t a building or any kind of guides that most other sanctuaries have.

The Monterey Bay Coastal Trail is an 18-mile long path that stretches from Pacific Grove to Castroville, offering a picturesque route for walkers, hikers, and cyclists. This popular coastal trail provides easy access to attractions like the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row, and Fisherman's Wharf. While not a traditional hike, it is favored by outdoor enthusiasts and offers stunning views of the bay.
A trail of balance and beauty, this is. Smooth, well-paved, perfect for biking, running, or a meditative walk. Along the coast, the Force flows strong—waves whisper, seabirds glide, and the salty breeze invigorates. Crowded at times, patience a Jedi must have. Yet, a journey of peace and renewal, it remains. Walk it, ride it—enjoy it, you will. May the trail be with you. Always.

This coastal recreation trail is actually 18 miles long that runs from Pacifuc Grive to Castroville that was the original route of the Southern Pacifuc Railway. This paved trail is wide enough for bikes, joggers, strollers and pedestrians walking to shops or walking for fitness. We walked from the Monterey Matrine Aquarium thru Cannery Row and about 30 minutes on foot past Fishermans Wharf. And then we walked back. We stopped on the way to shop a little, enjoy some salt water taffy and a great taco lunch. We also ventured off the trail into the beach in done places Public accessible restrooms. Some free street parking and paid garage parking with accessible spaces. Good walking

This little stretch of path and coastline is just gorgeous. There's a lot to take in; we walked the path a dozen times, but usually just found ourselves sitting on one of the many benches drinking a cup of coffee and soaking in the ocean views/air. The Lovers Point Mural (west side of path) is unfortunately a little lost in it's surroundings... although definitely still worth checking out for historical value.

Wonderful path that blesses its local citizens with a chance to not just trolley through by foot or bike, but also to take in and enjoy such a majestic view! My only complaint is the sea wall from the road needs to be higher to reach from average car door to window height, so it doesn't let the smog flow (especially after the non-vented Lighthouse Ave Tunnel) seap onto this path. The stench of smog in that sector is pretty bad, especially with this recent increased car traffic.

Point Pinos Lighthouse, established in 1855, proudly holds the title of the oldest continuously operating lighthouse on the Pacific Coast. Nestled at the northern edge of Monterey Peninsula, this historic gem is a must-visit for lighthouse enthusiasts and curious travelers alike. Despite its lesser-known status amidst Pacific Grove's bustling main street, it offers a unique glimpse into maritime history with its original third-order Fresnel lens still in place.
What an amazing piece of history! So grateful to everyone who has preserved this beautiful place and it’s story over the years. Every person we met working here was so passionate, knowledgeable, and kind. You can tell they truly love what they do and are excited to share their joy. It was such a treat to explore the lighthouse and imagine what life would be like living there. We got to visit on a beautiful day and some people were even able to spot whales from the lookout in the lighthouse. Thank you to everyone who makes this place possible!

I had been looking forward to visiting Point Pinos Lighthouse for a while, and it did not disappoint! This historic lighthouse is a hidden gem with a rich history and beautiful coastal views. The entry fee is only $7 per person, which includes a tour of the lighthouse keeper’s quarters and fascinating insights into its past. The staff is knowledgeable and passionate about the history. Since the lighthouse has limited visiting days and hours, I recommend planning ahead. After the tour, you can take a short walk around the area and enjoy the stunning scenery. A must-visit for history and nature lovers!

Well worth the price of admission. Great staff, lots of history very well presented in the lighthouse, beautiful gardens & landscaping. My only disappointments were: (1) the public golf course surrounds the lighthouse property, and (2) you can only view the lamp through a Plexiglas barrier at the top of the upper staircase & in a mirror. But overall, Point Pinos Lighthouse is a must-see if you're interested in nautical history.

Absolutely phenomenal visit. The ticket lady left a whole lot to be desired. Definitely need someone that is friendly and welcoming .. didn't get that with her. But the volunteers inside providing the tour details were fantastic. Very informative and very happy to be of service. It was a beautiful lighthouse and I loved learning about the history of the lighthouse and Pacific Grove. The grounds were very well taken care of, tons of flowers, trees, informative plaques, and deer. Loved my visit, will be back again.

I love seeing lighthouses and was excited to visit the Point Pinos Lighthouse, but unfortunately they close at 3pm and we arrived around 3:12pm on a Sunday. I was hoping since it was after hours, we would be able to walk around the grounds, but unfortunately, the lighthouse is gated, so there was limited viewing of the lighthouse. There is a small parking lot on at the entrance on Alisonar Ave. Surrounding the lighthouse is the Pacific Grove Golf Links golf course. If you want to visit the lighthouse, make sure you come at their open hours (see my picture for hours and admission fees).

Had such a great time here. The lighthouse is available for ahowrt window, but it's worth it. There are restrooms available and a gift shop. The grounds are so beautiful and you can walk around. The lighthouse itself, you are able to go in and take a tour of the place. Lorrie, a volunteer on the 1st floor, gave us so much information and insight it was great to hear it all. Her husband was also volunteering and gave us information on the 2nd, and it was amazing to learn from them both. As we were leaving, there were deer sunbathing in the neighboring houses, great ending to a great experience.

Amazing place to see the beach and the sea lions. Sooo many of them. It was adorable to see! As you walk you could see more sea lions on the rocks. Some are pretty close! We saw some otters as well!

Best launch ramp to get your boat into Monterey bay. The surge can be rough some days. Despite the boat works being right next door there are almost no services. No live bait service, no spigot to clean salt water out of your motor, no space to clean or sell fish for commercial fisherman. There is a fuel pump and pump out available. For fishing, be careful there are lots of divers right next to the pier. Bathroom with shower available next to the launch.

This place in our 2500 mile road trip was special. We got in for free for being veterans and a special deal they had in the summer so that was awesome. The place is small and just outside of the tourist areas, but there is a beautiful park and a great Mexican resteraunt right next door. It is also just walking distance from the beach and another boardwalk park area with parking about The staff welcomed us and Bill talked to us and asked us where we were from and told us a little about some things we were looking at. Very friendly. The exhibit of the birds was very large and the interactive kids area was very artsy, decorative, and kids would love it. The sands of the world was also super unique and the microscope setup to look at different items was also unique! Great place

My toddler totally loved it. As a Monterey county resident it was nice to learn about our community. I loved how everything is well organized. Every station had its own unique story. My son and I were there for about an hour. You might do two if you sit down and take your time reading every post. I think my son’s favorite part was the coloring and being able to see the live size taxidermy animals. My favorite part was the bird section and the upstairs. If you are visiting the area. It is a must see! Also, don't forget to pick something up from their gift shop section. We got some cool posters. Lastly, the gal at the front desk was very welcoming and informative. pretty, scenic trail… with awesome trees, landscaping and of course the wondeful view of the bay. it’s family friendly and it’s pedestrian friendly, my family spent two hours there, 2,3 dozens of bikes went by and none gave us a hard time for walking slowly or our two baby carriages. Most of them were considerate and slowdown when passing by. There were two lanes, one toward pacific grove and the other toward old town, but the lanes were wide enough to not feel dangerous when bicycles went by. I strongly recommend this trail for families and group of friends. 👍☀️

This is a cool trail. I walked on it from the parking lot beneath The Cannery to Old Fisherman’s Wharf. This trial is a paved trail that’s about eight to ten feet wide which allows cyclists and pedestrians. The trail section I walked on is by the water, so you get a nice view of the water, mountains, and sailboats. The trail is well maintained.

Nature & Parks
Nestled in the Gabilan Mountains, Pinnacles National Park is a hidden gem just south of San Jose, California. Established as a national park in January 2013, it spans approximately 26,000 acres and showcases stunning volcanic rock formations that have been shaped by nature over time. This enchanting destination offers an array of activities for outdoor enthusiasts, including more than 30 miles of hiking trails that wind through diverse landscapes teeming with vibrant plant and animal life.
Unique, no frills, remote. This is a beautiful part of our country and state and for someone who loves true nature this is the place to go. May not be suitable for young families or people who can't get around well. Expect visitor centers to be closed for the most part because of staff issues. Be aware of what hikes you want to do BEFORE arriving. There are 2 entrances and you cannot drive through the park to them, this is due to the geography of this untouched area. We were fortunate to go when there were not a lot of people in the park so there were no waits. Saw baby deer immediately, and saw condors at the peak of our hike. Also be aware of time of year and temperatures in the park. Start early in the day with the expectation of finishing up hikes around noon in the summer/early fall. Overall great experience! Also had a lovely experience with the park store staff member, very sweet and helpful!!

One of the most underestimated parks! And most unique parks! Dramatic volcanic rock formations, talus caves, and soaring condors make it unforgettable. The hikes range from easy to challenging — Bear Gulch and High Peaks are must-dos. We visited in early fall — pleasant weather, not crowded, and plenty of parking. Perfect mix of adventure, views, and quiet beauty.

I'm glad we took a chance on this park during a longer camping trip. It's small and not well known, but it is a very special place. Plan for hiking very early since it gets hot there, but the trails are beautiful and varied. The trail signs have a lot of detailed info, such as grade, surface, and even cross slope, so you can tell how hard they will be. I was impressed by their dark skies policies, such as no lights or fires after 10pm. The stars are incredible, with dry air and no nearby large cities. It has some of the strongest wilderness ethics of any park I've been to, and it's well explained in the park signage. That said, they have nice amenities such as showers and a camp store. One thing to know about this park is that it has 2 entrances and no connecting road through. In my opinion, the west entrance isn't worth the drive (though it is a nice drive through vineyards). There are good views of the rock formations there, but to hike to them you'd have to get there very early (after the drive, because you can't camp on that side) and then hike on sunny trails with little shade. The east entrance has the campground and a road to one of the prettiest and shadiest trails. The nice thing is all the trails in the park connect up, so you could go anywhere from the East Entrance if you want a longer hiking experience There's a lot of wildlife, including very mischievous raccoons and all kinds of birds. My one complaint would be that some of the campsites have an unreasonably long walk to a bathroom (loop B in particular), so if that is a need for you, take a very close look at the campground map before reserving a spot

Loved taking the day to see ‘the least visited’ national park. I’m not sure why, because it was stunning! We hiked the lower cave to bear gulch, but didn’t see any bats. Made it to the reservoir, truly beautiful! Would come back to hike again when visiting this area!

Pinnacles National Park — Forged by Fire, Ruled by Time Carved from ancient volcanoes, Pinnacles is raw, wild, and unforgettable. Towering spires, twisted canyons, and shadowy caves create a landscape that feels alive with power. This isn’t just a hike — it’s an adventure. From calm meadow strolls to heart-pounding climbs, every trail tests your grit. The heat is fierce, the terrain relentless, but the views? Absolutely breathtaking. Come prepared. Conquer the wild. And feel the earth’s fire beneath your feet.
IVoRy T — Google review
Definitely doesn't get enough love. It may not have views as grand as Yosemite but the hiking trails are so fun to go through, with lots of features, and the views are still awesome. This place gets HOT though. Bring lots of water.
Hypo — Google review
The park mostly consists of moderate to strenuous hikes. The sun's heat starts to set in around 9-10am so plan routes accordingly. I recommend the High Peaks Steep/Narrow trail for up-close condor and vulture viewing. Bats can be seen skirting across the surface of Moses Spring Reservoir after sundown. The trails are very sparsely populated, aside from the Bear Gulch area which has some traffic. I took the Old Pinnacles - Balcony Cliffs - High Peaks - Blue Oak loop 7am-12pm on a weekday and did not see a single other person on the route.

This stunning course captures the essence of Scotland, featuring lush Monterey Pines and the mesmerizing waves of the Pacific Ocean. Golfers can enjoy a unique layout that starts near the ocean before transitioning into a serene forest setting, ultimately revealing some of golf's most spectacular vistas.
My travel companion, and I had lunch here. Talk about a great view. Incredible! It’s definitely worth taking the 17 mile drive and stopping at the Pebble Beach golf course for lunch! I had a delicious salad, and the service was great!

Great course, beautiful views on every hole. Awesome experience! Only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is its a little odd at the price for 18 holes and a cart that you don't even get bottled waters. Not having a driving range is also a bummer. The Bag Piper in the evening was awesome as well!

I played this course on 12/31/24. It was carpath only so I decided to walk and it was beautiful and mesmerized by the views of the course. We were on the 18th hole when the bagpipes was played before the sunset.

It feels like playing golf in a desert oasis. It's easy to lose your ball because there's a lot of sand, but it's a really fun course. This is a course I love. If you time it right in the afternoon, you can meet a bagpiper and the burgers you eat at the cafe are really delicious. But be careful. A crow is watching your food. A highly recommended course that you must visit at least once.

Begin your Monterey County road trip with an adventurous overnight stay at Vision Quest Safari Ranch B&B, nestled in the scenic Salinas Valley. The tent-style bungalows offer a luxurious glamping experience surrounded by vineyards and picturesque hills. Afterward, head to the Monterey Zoo for an unforgettable wildlife encounter. This zoo is home to a diverse range of animals including lions, tigers, bears, elephants, kangaroos, and porcupines.
We frequently visit Carmel/Monterey, but this was our first visit to the zoo. We are so glad we added it to our trip to-do-list this time! We have two young children that love animals. We have been to the San Francisco, Sacramento, and Portland zoos several times, and although this one is smaller than all, our family actually enjoyed this one more than the others. The staff was friendly, spent time to tell us about the animals, and showed genuine care and companionship with the animals. The facility was in pristine condition, the animals were healthy, bright eyed, bushy tailed, and active. This zoo will now be a new regular stop for us when we bring the family out this way.

We visited the Monterey Zoo for the first time this weekend. We stayed 2 nights in their BnB safari tent cabins. The zoo is small, but has a lot of different animals to see. Reptiles, birds, cats, primates, rhinos and much more. Most of the animals seem to be rescues from private collections or surplus from other zoos. The animal enclosures are well kept and the whole zoo is very clean. We took a couple of special tours and got to see "behind the scenes" and those areas are also immaculate. All the animals seemed well cared for and happy. We interacted with many staff and all were top notch, knowledgable and happy to be there. Allow 2 to 3 hrs to see everything at a leisurely pace. Pack lunch or snacks as there is no food for purchase in the zoo. Food is not allowed in the zoo, so plan to eat in the car. All parts of the zoo are easy to access, and ramps are provided for folks who can't do stairs.

Well laid out, very clean and entertaining zoo! Not huge, but a fun way to spend a few hours with the family. Animals seemed well cared for and many seemed to enjoy the human attention—even one of the lionesses!

We stayed in the pachyderm palace bungalow and combined the room with the Walk with the animals tours! Words can’t describe what it meant to my children. My oldest has specials needs and the tour guides were so amazing and included him in everything! We will be going back!
Kara H — Google review
Meh, we went midday so unfortunately all the animals were sleeping. It got pretty warm inside. The reptile enclosure was way too hot and very stinky. I've been to many reptile houses and that one was my least favorite. Go early while its cool and the animals are active. No food allowed inside, no food is served. No drinking fountains. The music by the bears and lions seems unnecessary and loud..

A Taste of Monterey - Wine Market & Bistro is an oceanfront bistro located in a bright and relaxed setting, offering Mediterranean dishes and wine tastings. Despite being tucked away in the 700 Cannery Row complex of shops, it boasts a striking waterside setting, a gorgeous tasting bar, and an extensive catalog of local wines.
ABSOLUTELY amazing!! We wanted an ocean front, chill, delicious lunch. That was exactly what we got (and then some) Lee, that smile is contagious! Robin, your phone call was great and you were so peaceful from start to finish. The binoculars were a seriously incredible touch. The food was delightful. I would love to see a side Cesar salad or something like that on the menu. 10/10 would recommend!!!!!

The Wine Experience is a vibrant and modern tasting room that perfectly blends New American cuisine with an impressive selection of wines. This multifaceted venue not only offers delightful bar bites but also hosts engaging wine workshops and events, making it a fantastic spot for both learning and socializing with fellow wine enthusiasts. Update 20 AUGUST 2024. This is such a nice place that we simply had to cancel our dinner appointment and return. This time we tasted the rest of the wines and had some previously tasted wines. And we had the nice combination board (Cheese, sausage and crackers/nuts). Very nice. Nate was the host this afternoon and evening - a super nice person. My wife and I dropped by 19 AUG 2024 for a tasting of wines. We each had the flight of four, and tasted a total of 8 wines. They were all very nice. You can also get beer here and some minor dishes. It looked like that you can make/blend your own wine and get it bottled with your own label. That could be fun to do. If you like wine - drop by here.

Nice place but there are some people who work with great racism and discrimination between children . I used to go with my children for a long time without any problems until a new employee came and her treatment of the dear one was very ugly and incomprehensible. She asked me not to let my children play in a place designated for children only under 3 years old. I always see kids older than my kids playing in the same place and you don't talk to them I also have a child under 3 years old, but she refused to let my children play in that place. Her treatment was totally unfair.

Fort Ord Dunes State Park offers a captivating coastal experience with its 7 kilometers of coastline on Monterey Bay. Visitors can explore charming boardwalks, hike and bike through the dunes, and admire the stunning sea views. The park is home to diverse wildlife and features interpretive signs that shed light on its military history. Accessible to the public for nearly a century, this once exclusive beach now welcomes everyone to enjoy its panoramic vistas of Monterey Bay.
A BEAUTIFUL BEACH WITH WAVES! It was so nice to walk on the beach and dip our feet in the water at Dunes State Park Beach. You have to search for the parking. Definitely not a swimming location because the waves might pull you in, (Some parts are shallow though) but it was so nice to view and just taking in the scenery. Definitely wear sandals and wash your feet after, because the sand contains bird feathers and other bird waste. However, It was a peaceful area, and I hardly saw any seagulls there.

Nice beach once you get down there. Not crowded. I would go again if looking for secluded beach time.
Lisa Z — Google review
T he beach here is very nice but it was not exactly the easiest to get to. Another thing is the surf is not gentle or warm. You have about 100 yards of 3 different walking surfaces to get through to get to the beach. First is the paved area of the parking lot, then you run into compacted sand area, then is the loose sand area. Not to mention the first compacted sand area is in a very narrow trench area you cannot even get a small little beach cart through see pics. Seperate bonus is a long paved trail you can ride your bikes or have a nice walk.
David M — Google review
Nice little hike from the parking lot to the beach. No fee to park. Porta potties were relatively clean, but out of sanitizer. Clean beach, and found a couple of sand dollars intact. Parasailors (?) were gliding along the dunes, very cool. Not a good beach for swimming.

Went with my kids to walk the trials and feel the water. Kids played in the sand. It’s a great place to relax or walk on trails or climb the dunes. My kids enjoyed it very much they loved sliding down with their sleds down the sand dunes. Awesome fun family day.

My wife and I recently spent a few hours at Fort Ord Dunes State Park, and honestly, it was one of the most peaceful, beautiful spots we’ve visited in a long time. We live nearby and had heard about it, but this was our first time actually walking the trails and heading down to the beach and we’re so glad we finally did. We started at the main parking area, which was easy to find and had plenty of space. There’s a paved path that takes you along the top of the dunes, and the views of the ocean from up there are incredible. You can see the waves crashing for miles in both directions. It’s quite too way less crowded than other beaches in the area, which made it feel even more special. We took our time walking the trail and stopped at one of the overlook platforms just to soak it all in. You can hear the ocean the whole time and smell the salt in the air. It’s one of those places that makes you pause and take a deep breath. We stood there for a while, holding hands, just watching the waves and the clouds roll by. Eventually, we found one of the sandy trails that leads down to the beach. It’s a little steep in spots, but manageable if you take it slow. Once we got down there, it felt like we had the whole beach to ourselves. The sand was soft, the breeze was cool, and the sound of the ocean was everything. We laid out a blanket and just relaxed, no phones, no distractions. It felt like we hit pause on life for a bit. We also took a short walk along the water. My wife loves collecting little seashells and driftwood, and there were plenty to find. We even saw a few birds gliding overhead and a couple of seals way out in the water. The sun started setting while we were out there, and the sky turned all kinds of pink and gold. It was honestly kind of romantic just one of those moments you don’t forget. The walk back up to the bluff gave us one last chance to take in the view, and we both said we need to come back here more often. It’s peaceful, it’s beautiful, and it’s right here in our own backyard. If you’re looking for a quiet spot to connect with nature or just have some quality time with someone you love Fort Ord Dunes is it. Definitely one of the hidden gems of the Monterey area.

The Old Monterey Jail, built in 1854 with thick granite walls to prevent escapes, served as a secure confinement for over a century until 1956. Its sturdy construction, using minimal wood and abundant iron and granite, contributed to its impeccable security record. Today, the jail stands as a historical site open to visitors, offering a glimpse into the Wild West era.
I highly recommend visiting the Old Monterey Jail Museum. It’s free to the public and packed with real artifacts and captivating stories. The preserved cells give you a raw glimpse into local history, and the exhibits are surprisingly detailed for such a small space. I discovered the museum after taking a ghost tour and was fascinated by the behind-the-scenes stories tied to the jail’s past. Definitely worth the visit if you’re in the area!

Went after closing time, and the doors are locked, so all I could see were the doors and what people have taken pictures of on Google Maps 🙃 Small jail but a cool part of history!

Very cool place. You can see inside the jail on your own, it doesn’t require admittance and is always open. There’s a audio tour available on site.

The Old Monterey City Jail is a nice visit for those who are interested in historic jails and those that are just interested in history, particularly California History. They are open from 10am-4pm, Thursday through Sunday, closed Monday through Wednesday. The address is on Pacific St (Google), but the entrance to the jail is located behind Colton Hall on Dutra St. It is self guided and will probably only take you 5 minutes to walk in, read the signs at the different exhibits and snap a few pictures. If you are visiting Colton Hall Museum (where the first signing of the California Constitution took place), then you should check out the old jail.

El Estero Park, located in California, is a popular recreational park surrounding Lake El Estero. It offers a range of outdoor activities for both locals and tourists. The park features the El Estero Exercise Course, a 1.2-mile pathway that winds around the lake, providing opportunities for hiking and cycling while enjoying the natural scenery. Additionally, families can enjoy the themed Dennis the Menace playground and visit the Monterey Skate Park within the vicinity.
Wonderful park for children.Vast ground with many facilities. Not only children but adults also can spend and relax here.
Rajendran K — Google review
We've been going to this park since my kids were young specifically Dennis deMenace Park. However, we've never ever walked around or fish the lake. We recently got into fishing so chasing fish planting schedule was part of knowing where the fish are. Since El Estero Lake still received a trout plant in May, we decided to fish the lake to see what we can catch. As per this recent visit, I caught a couple of hatchery trout and my wife caught a handful of large bluegills. Parking was plentiful and lake looked clean. Pathways were clear but as any park with bird wildlife, droppings were a problem. Weather was nice and visitors seemed responsible about keeping their surroundings clean. In lieu of lake swimming, paddle boats were available for rental so visitors can enjoy the lake too. There's a skateboard park too. Overall, El Estero is a nice park.

This is wonderful park on all measures of park life! El Estero is in a primo location in the center 💜 of Monterey. Surrounded by native plants that attract wildlife to add to this playground habitat trail! There is a giant playground for kids on the upper level & a super smooth skate park below. The skate park has surfaces for a lot of skating and biking styled activities & sports. The pontoon dragon & swan peddled boats at the lake look so fun to ride. Lots of areas to pull up a folding chair and have a picnic and relax by the ocean! Thank you for providing these creature comforts all in one public park by the bay!
H-Pop G — Google review
This dog park at El Estero Lake is convenient and pretty well maintained. It’s not very big but they made good use of the space they had. When I lived in Monterey, I went often because it was a place where I could let the dogs off the leash. Now that I live in Salinas, it’s a great pitstop when we’re running errands on the Peninsula. I hardly run into people there anymore so more often than not were the only ones there and it feels safe. Sometimes the parking is being used by the people at Dennis the Menace park but usually you can find a parking place. I’ve never had an issue with another dog there though there was one dog owner that was so mean to his dog and left his dog on the leash while in the dog park. I had to leave because I felt he might be nicer to his dog if he didn’t have an audience. Now that I write this, I should’ve at least said something before I left not that it would’ve done any good, but I should’ve told him he was a really bad dog parent.

Kids had a blast. No pesticide since 2008. Things seemed a little older. But overall it was great further kids of all ages to runaround and have fun.

This place was recommended by a local for us to take my daughte too. There was a lot of people there but the playground was huge so it didnt feel like it was crowded. I would recommended coming early before all the parking spots are taken.

Im confused as to what this is since it has paddle boats, Denis The Menace park, and some other stuff. Peddle boats are fun but I think a lil pricey in my opinion. Denis the Menace park is very fun. 2, 5 and 8 year old kids loved it here. Very fun. Definitely recommend it. Restrooms are okay but working is the most important part.

One of the scenic parks in Monterey. The view of the lake at this park is spectacular. With it being very close to the ocean, it really makes sitting there a very relaxing experience. Monterey State Beach, along with Del Monte Beach, offers miles of picturesque coastline for various recreational activities such as surfing and fishing. The rugged shoreline creates secluded beach areas and natural pools, perfect for sunbathing in the California sun. It is an ideal spot for swimming, boating, or simply enjoying the views from waterfront restaurants. This dog-friendly beach is popular among locals who often visit with their pets.
Pretty nice beach. Quiet out here, but the sounds of the waves/ocean are relaxing. Some pretty good waves as well.

I had a very pleasant day visiting Monterey State Beach. The cool breeze made the weather perfect for spending time outdoors. We had a great time playing beach volleyball and even received some fun freebies during our visit, which added to the experience. One of the highlights was watching (and maybe even trying!) the paragliding happening right at the beach—it added a real sense of adventure to the atmosphere. It’s also a fantastic spot for pet lovers. We saw lots of people walking their dogs and enjoying various activities with their pets.

Monterey State Beach is a wide, scenic beach with beautiful ocean views, but unfortunately it is not always very well maintained. In some areas there is quite a bit of grass and seaweed, which slightly affects the impression. Still, it offers a nice place for walking, relaxing, and enjoying sunsets, even if it could be cleaner. Perfect for those who appreciate a more natural shoreline.

I arrived when the sun was setting and it was the most beautiful thing ever! Parking is limited but I secured a spot at the front. There is a sign that states they don’t recommend swimming due to the waves, not sure since I didn’t swim. When it got dark a cop came to the parking lot and kicked everyone out so make sure to be gone by the time the sun sets lol.

Cannery Row, located in Monterey Bay, was once a bustling center for sardine canning. Today, it is a vibrant area filled with restaurants, shops, and hotels. The old canneries have been repurposed into a mix of new buildings and stores, including silver jewelry shops and antique stores.
Love this place! It’s always fun and magical. Who does like really good food with sea shells, good shopping and the ocean breeze 🩵!

This fairly low-key offers a myriad of eateries, shops, hotels, and entertainment with ocean views and dome beach access on the West side. The area is dotted with sitting areas, mostly sandy with some tribute statues like The Cannery Riw group And a tribute bust to John Steinbeck. The shops include local vendors and services, international products, and some brand name providers like Ghirardelli chocolate and Hawaii's main pearl distributor. Several eateries like Tidal Coffee offer ocean view seating. We parked in the paid van accessible parking garage to spend the day moving thru the area. We found deals at Pebble beach Outlet, souvenir sweatshirts at local venues Accessible public restrooms. And some venues have private accessible restrooms. Well kept sidewalk for walking with steps or sandy trails to access beach Paid garage van accessible parking is the best bet and limited accessible street parking
Toni T — Google review
Preferred Cannery Row over Fisherman’s Wharf! Both are similar with the typical tourist style food/beverage options but Cannery area was cleaner and offered more in the experience of historical references and better shopping. The biggest negative is the limited parking access sharing with the aquarium… do both while you’re in the area.

It's a nice place to visit. Are you planning to bring your dog on a stroll to this area? Don't! Please make sure your dog has already gone to the bathroom as there are hardly any places for your dogs to relieve themselves on this stretch. Be prepared and bring your bags and make sure you clean up after your dogs because apparently some people don't

Monterey is such a beautiful area. There are many places to explore. One of them is the old cannery. A Hodge podge of old canneries and new buildings. Of course many shopping areas. My wife likes the silver jewelry shop by the fish hopper restaurant. Many interesting antique stores. Of course there is also the Monterey Bay aquarium, a very well done aquarium with amazing displays. The restaurants, to many to mention, the fish hopper, the chart house, and chains El torito and bubba gumps. My favorite bar here is Sly McFly's a standard for locals. Lots to explore lots of walking. A couple of nice hotels with rooms overlooking the ocean. A couple of days to see things here.

Always an enjoyable experience. Especially off-season. Could not have had better weather. Wonderful food, drinks, shopping and views that cannot be beat.
Patricia H — Google review
I love this area, but as with all tourist areas, just out to get your hard earned money. Lots of great boutique shops and souvenir shops which are all overpriced. Did I mention parking? On street parking at the meters is reasonable if you have a clue how to use them! I have never used one in my life and don't normally see them where I live/work/socialise, so left them alone. There is a large parking lot, but at $20 a day I thought was very overpriced (it maybe worth $10). Starbucks: brilliant, prices remain the same as anywhere in California (except LA) and if you need the toilet, hey presto. I could go on and on, but I'll leave it here. I haven't mentioned the Aquarium, as its on a separate review.
Handy M — Google review
Wonderful place to visit and dog friendly. Parking on the street is $5 for 4 hours. Parking meter accepts credit cards. We had our doggies with us. It's a very nice walk with a plaza to rest and to enjoy the bay views and sea life. We had a very nice time strolling with the doggies and visiting shops. There is also the Monterrey Aquarium to visit. Lots of restaurants and shops. We will definitely return.

Wines are incredible. Staff seemed bored. Location is perfect. Atmosphere needs help.
Elle T — Google review
Regrettably, the recent change in management has substantially diminished the quality of the tasting room experience. What was once a warm, inviting atmosphere characterized by genuine hospitality and knowledgeable staff now feels disappointingly sterile and corporate. Particularly concerning is the noticeable decline in customer service, exemplified by the unfortunate dismissal of a highly experienced and beloved server, whose personal touch and familiarity with regular patrons greatly enhanced visits. This shift toward impersonal interactions detracts significantly from the unique charm and community feel that previously set this winery apart. Given these developments, I have chosen to discontinue my membership, hoping that management might reconsider the value of genuine, experienced customer service over a standardized corporate approach.

Hiking Trails
Point Lobos State Natural Reserve is a must-visit destination in Monterey County, California. It offers stunning coastal views, diverse wildlife, and picturesque beaches. The reserve features several hiking trails such as the Cypress Grove Trail and Bird Island Trail, allowing visitors to explore its natural beauty up close. With limited parking capacity and some areas restricting access due to fragility, it's essential to plan ahead for a visit.
This place is absolutely stunning! The coastal views are breathtaking, with dramatic cliffs, turquoise waters, and waves crashing against rocky coves. The hiking trails are well-kept and offer a nice variety—some take you through cypress groves and wildflower-dotted meadows, while others open up to sweeping ocean vistas. It’s the perfect mix of peaceful nature and jaw-dropping scenery—truly one of California’s gems!
Jonathan W — Google review
I went to this place not reading anything about it and I was very impressed by its natural beauty. We went on a Saturday and it was unsurprisingly busy. The hiking was great. Lots of good views of this jagged part of the coastline. Not a shortage of Instagrammable shots. The cypress trees among rocky cliffs and bluffs were a unique sight for me in California. Only wished that there were more picnic tables and picnic tables built on shaded/covered areas. Also, parking can be quite difficult if it's a busy day in the reserve and the amount of street parking available (along the main highway) can make you park wayyy far from the reserve's entrance (they close it if the lot is full). Alot at least 3 hours for this state reserve if you plan on taking a break for a picnic/snack. I liked that there were park rangers at the entrance and information areas, ready to help you with questions. Lastly, take care on the trails - there are lots of poison oak. Just make sure not to touch them! The guides can help you identify what they look like.
Daryl K — Google review
Thoroughly enjoyed my hike at Point Lobos. I was pleasantly surprised that such stunning views didn’t have a strenuous hike attached to it. Most hiking trails are easy to moderate for the average person. And some are super short with great views (good for those just wanting to get in and out). I can in mid-October on a weekday. Arrived one hour after opening and there was still ample parking. I left close to lunch time and there were still parking spots available. I’d say come early if you are coming during peak season (summer), holidays, or a weekend.

I’ve visited multiple times, and it’s no wonder this park has become so popular. Weekends can get busy, so arriving early for parking is highly recommended. Beautiful spot! Like a 10 min walk through the tunnel from the car parking lot to see the falls. You can't go near the falls but can see them from top of the cliff clearly. Worth it to stop by here if you're in the area

The McWay Falls trail at the state park is closed unfortunately. You can walk up the highway a little way and see a view of it. It's nice but not much at this time of year (late Sept) because it's toward the end of the dry season. I'm glad that we saw it though. The coast is spectacular.
SeeTheWorld — Google review
McWay Falls is one of the most iconic and breathtaking natural sights along California’s Highway 1, nestled within Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park in the heart of Big Sur. This 80-foot waterfall dramatically cascades directly onto a secluded beach or into the Pacific Ocean, depending on the tide, creating a picture-perfect view that looks like it belongs on a postcard. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it's one of the few waterfalls in the U.S. that empties directly into the ocean. Located right off Highway 1, the park is accessible via a short, well-maintained trail that leads to an overlook with a spectacular, panoramic view of the falls and the turquoise waters below. The trail is flat and easy, making it suitable for visitors of all ages. There is also a historic house site nearby and interpretive signs that tell the story of the park and the McWay family's legacy. While access to the beach is restricted to protect the fragile ecosystem, the viewpoint alone is more than worth the stop. Parking can be limited during peak times, so it's best to arrive early. Overall, McWay Falls is a must-see destination for travelers exploring Big Sur—offering a serene, almost magical experience that's perfect for photographers, nature lovers, and anyone seeking peace and inspiration from the natural world.
Krrazie — Google review
It was such a beautiful day, and I am happy about that. No fog, and the fall was easily visible from the viewing area. Unfortunately, the last part of the trail is still closed, but as you can see from the photos, the fall is visible. The trail is super easy. It turned out to be a hotter day than I expected, so I didn't stay there long. There is a bench if you want to relax a bit before heading back. ***Parking is self registered. Pick up the cash envelope on your way in OR park to the side to complete. Remember to leave the top portion on dash. Park staff were present, checking and walking the trail as well. If you pay for parking at any state park, keep your receipt because it will cover all state parks in the area for the entire day. Restrooms available.
Tania S — Google review
Even though it’s a tiny fall, it definitely worth going to this place. We first went to Pfeiffer beach but parking was not available and they told us to check back later so we drove about 20 mins ahead to checkout these falls and went back to the beach. We took our stroller along as well. It’s a beautiful sight and definitely worth going. I believe this is the last destination in this route because the road was closed ahead during our visit in June 2024. Paid parking is available but limited otherwise I saw people park on the main road and walk inside to the falls point.
Sankalp M — Google review
As far as I know this the only waterfall in the world which is found at the beach. I had seen many people posting photos and videos captured from the tunnel under the waterfall but looks like the path has been closed for the trekking. In a way its good, this view is more beautiful without humans 😊 There are limited parking spaces near the visitor center, parking inside charges around $10, the inside parking was full and we were asked by staff to park at parking areas away from the entrance. The center has public restrooms, entree is free. As the Route 1 was closed we had to come to this place from north which adds up 3 hrs drive one side. But if you are driving from LA then it adds to the advantage as when you drive from the North you get better views of the Pacific coast You can trek to the view point which is easy and may take hardly 10 minutes. You might try to get the photos from the farthest view point. The view you get is astonishingly beautiful and you would love to stay there for longer time just to get more glance of the natural beauty. You can observe The waves swallowing all the water falling from the waterfall. A point where a sweet water loses its identity and meets into Ocean and becomes like it. Dont miss it.

Carmel Mission Basilica Museum, also known as San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo, is a historic church and museum located just west of Hwy-1 in Carmel. The mission dates back to 1770 and is the most important of all the California missions. Visitors can take self-guided tours of the mission and explore its serene courtyard and on-site museum. The beautiful gardens and photogenic bell tower make it a popular spot for wedding photos.
We visited the Carmel Mission Basilica Museum, one of the original 21 Spanish missions established in California. While much of it has been thoughtfully restored, the original bell tower and bell have been beautifully preserved. The chapel is serene and artistically stunning, featuring an extraordinarily detailed nativity scene. A corridor from the chapel leads to a spacious, open courtyard surrounded by historic quarters—likely once inhabited by the Spanish settlers. Part of these quarters has been transformed into a museum that offers a glimpse into the mission’s rich history. Visitors can tour through recreated rooms, including a library, kitchen, dining room, reading room, guest room, and the padres bedroom. The mission offers convenient amenities, including a parking lot and clean restrooms, and is located close to downtown Carmel and many great restaurants. It’s an ideal spot for tourists, with plenty to explore in just 1–2 hours.

What an absolutely gorgeous mass and historical place. There is an 11am Sunday mass followed by coffee and donuts. There, they also have a bookshelf with free Catholic books you can take home! I'm not a religious person, but I was really lucky to come here on a Sunday while Mass was going on. Beautiful grounds and a nice place to visit when in Carmel by the Sea. Something other than the beach and Ocean Ave. Not overly busy and plenty of parking. Pleasant neighborhood. Walked by it on the way to Mission Ranch Hotel and Restaurant.

Asilomar State Beach is a serene coastal destination featuring a 1-mile stretch of sandy beach, rocky coves, and a wheelchair-accessible walking trail that winds through dunes. The area is home to diverse marine species and is part of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Visitors can stay at reasonably priced accommodations in Pacific Grove, such as Andril Fireplace Cottages or the rustic Asilomar Conference Grounds with its historic cabins and lodge rooms.
Our party-of-5 adult visitors to Central California (from U.S. Midwest & the UK) headed to Asilomar State Beach after a late dinner in Monterey, to see an awesome late June sunset under clear skies. We arrived approx. 20 minutes before sundown, and the roadside parking slots along Sunset Drive were filling up fast. But we luckily found a spot to tuck in, then took a short walk to a beach access point. We were all very pleased to see the beautiful sunset over the Pacific waves on a very clean beach with soft sand, and it's a sight we will all remember for a long time. I'd recommend arriving @ Asilomar SB about an hour prior to sunset and put a blanket down close to the surf line, as late comers seem prone to standing & blocking the sightlines of people who set up to watch the show from viewpoints closer to the road.

It was a fun stop. The water crashes here so the sound is wonderful. That being said the waves are really dark like dirt is in them. There are better beaches around Monterey Bay but is was still fun.
Anna H — Google review
We love this beach/trail. It has been a different experience every time we visit Asilomar (depending on the season and the tides), but always good. Tidepools are available when tides are lower, but we see seals and sea otters when it's high. Such a beautiful place to spend some hours ☀️🌊🐚

I came to this beach specifically to watch the sunset and boy oh boy it did not disappoint! 🤩 I lucked out with convenient parking next to a staircase and a good spot on the beach. I would love to spend the whole day here … even enjoy a bonfire after sunset (which is allowed on one side of the beach).

Tide pools are amazing! 10/10 recommend for a stop to see the miniature crabs in the tide pools!

A great beach! Plenty of sand, big waves, and tide pools.

This beach walk was beautiful! The road is busy but once you’re on the trail it’s very safe. There are several social trails and beach access points so it never felt overcrowded even when there were lots of people out enjoying the trails. Great for dog walks, people walks, running and photos.

Garrapata State Park, located along Highway 1 in California, offers a stunning coastal landscape with 2 miles of beachfront and hiking trails. The park features a 50-foot climb to a breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean. As you journey through this area, you may encounter artists capturing the scenery on canvas or musicians playing music amidst the natural beauty. Nearby attractions like Point Lobos State Natural Reserve and Asilomar State Beach provide additional opportunities for exploration and inspiration.
Amazing loop hike at Garapatta State Park! We started through the Soberanes Canyon Trail to Doud Peak, then the Rocky Ridge trail. The first part of the trail was a beautiful forest that went up and down; then we hiked up the mountain. The view from the top and going downhill was a beautiful ocean view. We saw a snake! Be very careful of deer tick. Happy trail!

It was lovely and stunning views of the ocean! We also saw the Cala lilies and took sown lovely pictures. I highly recommend hiking here.

One of the most incredible places I've ever been. Unbelievable ocean views, easy-to-walk trails, no entry fee, lots of different places to park, not overly crowded. Everyone said to go to Big Sur or Andrew Molera, but this one blew them both out of the water.

With many gates to choose from, trail options span the easy quick to the beach or more expansive to the bluffs and scrambles to the tide pools. Parking can be a challenge so try to go early. Morning are foggy and get clearer in the afternoon. Many trails go thru fields of native flowers

Beautiful, quiet, serene. We took the bluffs trail and it was a quick and easy hike to view the rugged coastline. Not crowded at all later in the afternoon. Just a few minutes drive south from Point Lobos

The hiking trails are well-maintained, offering a variety of difficulty levels for everyone. Andrew Molera State Park, the largest state park in Big Sur, offers a relatively undeveloped natural experience with its scenic hiking trails, meadows, and beach. The park is popular for its over 20 miles of hiking trails and the Andrew Molera State Beach. It features 24 primitive walk-in tent sites that provide a secluded camping experience away from RVs and cars.
Great scenery, ample parking. We hiked the Creamery Ridge, Panorama, and Bluffs Loop. This is the review of the trail— Amazing loop hike on a well formulated trail. We got an adventurous surprise when we were met by the Big Sur River, which required passing knee deep water; most everyone removed their shoes to cross, and the water is cold and refreshing. There’s a slight detour to see the beach that we enjoyed before beginning the loop. We took the trail, starting the loop to the right closer to the water, and this area is flatter, then further south, the trail cuts quickly east uphill, and you travel up pretty steadily until the juncture heading north. Enjoy the view here because after you’ll be in the trees for a while as you gradually move downhill along the ridge. The final mile of the loop trail, the view opens up again. And we were able to see the sunset. At dusk, we hiked back on the meadow trail and we spotted a young mountain lion. It’s the first week of April, so the river is flowing well and there is also a stream or two where you could filter water. Loads of wild flowers. Even more poison oak; wear long pants and high socks to avoid it getting your legs. Great trail.
G B — Google review
Really cool place for a hike to the beach. It was really just a mile walk over flat ground, but we had to ford the river right at the start on June 8. Beach itself is spectacular! So beautiful and not very crowded given the work it takes to get there. We had a nice picnic after our hike. The whole area is kind of an awesome mix of Ireland and Hawaii.
Matt H — Google review
From the moment you enter, you’re greeted with breathtaking natural beauty. The trails are wonderfully serene, weaving through lush greenery and offering stunning views at every turn. The highlight, of course, is the expansive, sandy beach. It’s the perfect spot to relax, soak up the sun, or enjoy a peaceful walk along the shoreline. The combination of rugged cliffs, rolling hills, and soft sand makes it feel like a true coastal paradise. Whether you’re hiking, picnicking, or just taking in the scenery, Andrew Molera State Park is a must-visit for anyone who loves nature. Truly a hidden treasure!
SK H — Google review
We had a great time camping 3 nights at Trail camp. We were looking for a quiet place away from noisy generators and we just found the perfect place. The campsites are pretty spacious. The restrooms have flushing toilets and a sink with cold water, no shower though. We paid $30 per night, which is not too bad but I would say that $18-20 would be a better price based on amenities available. The campground is located at a very short walk from the parking lot. If you plan to use a wagon to haul all your supplies, be aware that you will have to carry it down a flight of stairs. Anyway, it was not too much trouble to get all our camping gear to our site. I was afraid it would be too much of a hassle. Beware of poison oak everywhere! During our stay we enjoyed going to the beach (1 mile from the parking lot). Nice walk!
Adeline C — Google review
We camped here for a night and loved it. Bathrooms at the campground and at the parking lot were both very well maintained. The campground was beautiful. It was quiet and others camping there were quiet and respectful. Trails to the beach and the camp trail to the Big Sur River were both very well maintained. The views from the Bluff Trail were spectacular. Alas, we are just too old to be camping anymore. My only feedback would be, the ground is not made out of memory foam. There is a short walk from the parking lot to the campground. While it's not long, you do need to carry everything in, and back out. Travel light, or put the kids to work.
Eric S — Google review
The park has a small parking lot where you pay for parking. This park has several hiking trails and one trail that will lead you to the beach, that is a little over a mile. The beach is nice and scenic but not for swimming as the waves and rocks are rough. Very relaxing area for sure.
Reuben R — Google review
Highly underrated Park with some terrific views, isolated beaches, and a nice panoramic hiking loop along the bluffs. I'd recommend long pants for some of trails as the poison oak gets pretty tight in the back trails - you're not going to be able to avoid it.
Michael P — Google review
My favorite hiking trail in Big Sur! Most trails in Big Sur take you from one mountain ridge to another, but the Creamery Meadow–Panoramic Bluff Trail Loop offers so much more variety. It’s an 8-mile loop, and I highly recommend starting at the Andrew Molera State Park trailhead, then turning left onto the Bluff Trail. Some hikers go straight to the beach first and do the loop in reverse—but I don’t recommend that. The incline from the bluff trial head up the middle is much steeper, and that route forces you to descend three very steep hills, which can be tough on your knees and footing. 💡 Trail tips: Wear long leggings/pants and tall socks. There's a ~2-mile stretch of narrow trail with overgrown brush on both sides that will scratch up any exposed skin. Rated moderate, but it leans toward the more strenuous side—roughly 5 of the 8 miles are uphill. Bring a lightweight long-sleeve sweater, even in summer. There’s a 2-mile stretch of strong ocean wind that can get chilly. Pack plenty of water, sunscreen, a lunch sandwich, and make sure your phone is fully charged for photos—you’ll want them. 🌲🏞️ Why it’s worth it: Epic views of the Pacific Ocean Peaceful stretches through redwood groves Open meadows dotted with wildflowers A beach stop at the halfway point Panoramic views of both mountains and sea A constant ocean breeze that makes it perfect on hot days An unforgettable hike—diverse, scenic, and soul-refreshing. Definitely a Big Sur gem.

The instructors, such as Brandon, are professional and provide proper instructions for a thrilling skydiving experience. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful views during the free fall and look forward to returning for another exhilarating flight.
I did their VIP jump for my 50th birthday and it was a great experience. Brandon was my instructor and he made everything so safe and reassured me every step of the way. This is a team I felt I could trust implicitly and I don’t trust easily. I don’t think I’ll do it again, but I think if you’re on the fence, just shut up and jump. :) You couldn’t pick a more beautiful place to jump.

Had an unforgettable first-time skydiving experience from 18,000 feet, one of the highest commercial tandem jumps in the world. I jumped alongside a really fun, nervous, excited, and courageous group of fellow skydivers, which made the experience even more special. Huge shoutout to Joey, the energetic videographer who kept me pumped, and Lucho, my calm and experienced tandem jump master with over 10,000 jumps in 10 years! He kept reminding all of us to have fun, and that mindset made all the difference. Professional, safe, and deeply joyful. Can't wait to see the video and pictures. Highly recommend! Edit: Saw the pictures and the video and I'm reliving it, all over again. Many thanks to the people who made this possible. What an amazing experience it was! I guess I would do it again!

Also, a huge shoutout to my photographer (I wish I caught his name!) — they captured every special moment so perfectly. The photos and video came out incredible and I’ve been watching them on

I had a reservation for 9 AM, but due to weather conditions, it was rescheduled to 11 AM. That caused a bit of a disruption in my plans, but I adjusted and arrived on time. Unfortunately, even after checking in at 11, there was no clear communication and I ended up waiting with no updates for another 3 hours. It wasn’t until 2 PM that we finally suited up. After that, we waited for another hour, only to be told that skydiving wasn’t possible due to weather. They offered a lifetime voucher, which I understand that safety comes first. That means I just a man who watched only a plane for 5 hrs. However, I believe they should have communicated more clearly throughout the day about what was happening. It’s tough to just sit and wait without knowing anything. Also, I didn’t get my deposit back — I’m not sure if that’s standard, but it’s something to be aware of.

I loved it here - worth every penny! Dylan was my jumpmaster and was very cool. Staff, in general, were very nice and helpful. The views were so nice and I would SO come back here again. 18,000 feet was AMAZINGGG. I would so consider taking lessons to possibly jump by myself too! Best experience ever!!!

I went to go for the 15,000Ft. Skydive here last week. Since the last few weeks, I had a genuine fear of even thinking about doing this. Then came THE DAY. I met up with Lucho, my jumpmaster that day, went through the basics, and off we went! To keep it short, standing by the aircraft's door before the leap was undescribable. I mean I couldn't process what I was doing. You HAVE to experience this yourself. The jump, the views, the launch of the parachute, the landing. Landed safely, defeated my fear of even comprehending to do this, and wanted to go again. Thank you so much to Skydive Monterey Bay and Lucho for this experience!

One of the most beautiful places on earth is Monterey Bay California. The water is crystal clear and the scenery spectacular. It's as close to "living in a post card" that you'll ever get..... Fore golfers. Monterey Bay is "Golf Heaven". The Bay is surrounded by World Class Golf Courses. Most notably "Pebble Beach". If your going to play any of these courses it's best to book your t-time well in advance. Sometimes a last minute t-time may be possible using the inter-web. Like San Francisco to the north Monterey Bay weather can fool you. The warmest time of year is September, October and November and you can freeze your backside June, July and August. (mornings and late afternoons especially) So make sure and pack some warm clothes if your visiting in the summer. This goes against all logic but if you forget and the green fees havent bankrupted you. Shopping for clothes in the pro shop certainly will.

We didn't stay here, but we stopped by while dealing with a medical situation. There is no cell coverage in Big Sur. It was a busy long weekend. The staff were very helpful in letting us use their phone and office, despite us not being guests of the venue. Our presence, no doubt, caused a huge interruption to their day, but they were generous, kind, and supportive with a smile all along. The venue looked lovely. We'll definitely be stopping by next time we're in the area.

I left behind some belongings accidentally including my custom prescription glasses. The hotel said the items were found and they would ship them to me. I have never been able to get anyone to call me back to email me tracking info for the package, which never arrived. No manager has ever responded to my many many calls about this and as we speak I have been on hold for an hour trying to understand what happened. We had a nice stay here but I would never return based on my experience. Everyone that works there seems nice but totally clueless.

Listen I know how hard it is for small businesses to thrive so that's why I'm being kind in my star rating but I think people should know what they are paying for. My partner and I booked a 2 night stay at the river "suite room" for a whopping 1100 dollars after fees and taxes and we arrived to a very outdated room with stains all over the carpet, and smell of sewage before we even used the bathroom. The internet service was shotty at best, but the kicker was the constant sounds of drivers and or people screaming in the parking lot. I wouldn't normally write a poor review for a small business but it feels like we were literally swindled by positive reviews and TikTok viral posts. For over $1000 for two nights for this spot.. normally I could cough it up for profits but this felt really egregious.. if you're looking to enjoy the river chairs just visit the restaurant and call it a day.

We had such high hopes for this place. The check in and out process was relatively simple, but obviously the cleaning staff and desk staff don't communicate so there was confusion as to whether our room was clean. The day we checked out we went to breakfast early and took a short drive and when we returned the cleaning staff was already in our room - before we checked out! The rooms across the street from the main hotel are very small, dated and dark. Perhaps the rooms at the main hotel are different. This was not worth what we paid. Very disappointed.

We stopped here while cruising highway 1 at Big Sur, as it was it coincided with Carmel Car Week so lots of exotica on the roads, my red mustang included lol 😂 Lovely place to stop, beautiful location, you can sit in the river on relaxing chairs, how cool! We bought a beer and wine and chips (French fries type) from the outside bar. It was very busy but I think we hit peak lunchtime with the Shelby club having a lunch meeting in the outdoors eating area. We found seating on a bench overlooking the river. If you’re in the area then defo stop and have a break here. On the day in August there was some fog and wind on the coast but just inland a bit here in Big Sur valley it was super warm and sunny ☀️ 🌞 😎👌 Free WCs available for customers.

Fisherman’s Wharf, located in Monterey, is a historic area known for its charming local culture. Once home to fish-canning facilities, the area has been transformed into seafood restaurants, hotels, and shops while still preserving the original warehouse signs. One example is the Sardine Products Co. Inc's elevated cargo platform that retains its original cursive painting.
The Fisherman’s Wharf in Monterey is a great place to visit. It is beautiful; it is peaceful. I felt very relaxed when I was there. I can watch the boats, I can watch the birds, and I can watch many people fishing at the pier. The sunset view is excellent there. I have no problem getting a parking space.
