The Skunk Train is a historic railroad tour that takes passengers through meadows, canyons, and the stunning redwood forest. This long-standing family tradition in California dates back to 1925 when the train's gasoline-powered engines and crude oil-burning pot-bellied stoves created a pungent odor, earning it the nickname "Skunk." Today, holiday-themed rides like the Pumpkin Express offer a delightful experience for all.
Such a cool experience! Skip the VIP boarding if you don’t anticipate going during peak season; there were plenty of seats and we spent most of our time in the open air cart. The stop at Glen Blair Jct leaves more than enough time for a quick hike and a refuel at the bar and there were also concessions available on the train. Such a cool way to experience the redwoods and learn about the California Western Railroad! Our tickets also got us admission to the model train museum.

This afternoon my girlfriend and I rode The Skunk Train from Fort Bragg up Pudding Creek to Glen Blair Junction. We booked the Presidential Class Car, and it turned out to be an excellent choice. The car itself was comfortable, beautifully restored, and we had it to ourselves, which made the trip feel private and special. Music from the 1920s and 30s played softly in the background, adding to the atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and attentive, making us feel welcome from the moment we boarded. Even though we had packed a lunch, we were served a nice snack tray along with beer and spirits. The photos capture some highlights: the vintage train car interior, drinks and snacks served during the ride, and the views from the observation area as we made our way through the forest. When we arrived at Glen Blair Junction, we were greeted by an outdoor bar and plenty of seating. We spent about 45 minutes there, enjoying the redwood setting and chatting with another couple before the train horn called us back. The return trip was just as enjoyable—we relaxed with another round of drinks while taking in the scenery. Overall, the experience was well worth it. The combination of friendly service, unique vintage atmosphere, and the beauty of the redwoods makes this ride a memorable way to spend an afternoon in Fort Bragg.

I rode the World Famous Skunk Train w/Malakai, the singing conductor! What a fabulous ride through the redwoods! I took my cousin & we both had a great Friday 🦨🚂ride! The Wolf Tree was spectacular! I wish they would repair the tunnel to Fort Bragg so we could ride the train longer! Everybody was super & I highly recommend the VIP ticket‼️🙏🫶🏼All Aboard ‼️🦨🚂😊
Patricia M — Google review
I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. The train ride was smooth and slow enough to see the sites. The Conductor serenaded us which made it more relaxing. We were allowed to get off the train for a picnic or just to explore the area. Overall, it was a great experience and I highly recommend it to everyone of all ages. People even had the pets on the train and the animals responded in a positive manner.

We had such a fun and memorable time on the Skunk Train! 🚂🌲 The ride through the redwoods was absolutely beautiful — peaceful, scenic, and full of history. The Skunk Train is pure nostalgia — relaxing, scenic, and full of charm. The pace was relaxed, and it’s perfect for families, couples, or anyone who wants to enjoy the beauty of Mendocino County. Don’t miss the stop at Glen Blair Junction — a great spot to stretch your legs and take photos. Truly a must-do experience in Fort Bragg! 🌿✨
Divya D — Google review
Both our conductors were amazing very informative and helpful. The scenery was georgous. One thing that .might bother you as it did us was the hour 10 min wait at the stop at the end before returning. Yes you can hike, sit, play some games and walk the trails, but we thought the 2 hours was railbike enjoyment. We were not told about that. Otherwise worth it.
Tina J — Google review
Better than expected. From the train ride to the live music and atmosphere. Dogs are welcome for an extra fee of $10.95. Well worth the money! Whether you spend an hour or three it’s a nice relaxing escape to enjoy the redwoods. We will definitely being doing this again
Misty A — Google review
Charming experience, but a bit overpriced We took the scenic train ride in Fort Bragg, and overall, it was a unique and enjoyable experience — especially for kids! The ride offers both indoor seating and an open-air car where you can stand and take in the beautiful forest views. One of the highlights for the little ones was watching the railroad crossings close as the train passed — very exciting for them! The whole experience lasts about 1.5 hours. The train ride itself is around 15–20 minutes each way. In between, there’s a 45-minute stop at a lovely forest location with a stunning and easy trail (about 0.9 miles) — perfect for families and young kids. On the return trip, most people just sit and enjoy the scenery again, as the train goes back the same way. The atmosphere at the station is very charming — staff dressed in classic conductor uniforms, a small gift shop, and a bit of that magical, nostalgic vibe. 🚂 The downside? The price. We paid over $150 for four people, and honestly, the ride felt too short and slow to justify that. While the scenery is beautiful, you can also walk a similar trail alongside the tracks for free. If you’ve never ridden a train before, it might feel more special. But if you’re expecting something longer or more immersive, this might feel underwhelming — especially when comparing it to other train rides in California (like one near San Francisco with steam and real smoke, which costs just $4 per person). That said, if you’re looking for a relaxing, family-friendly outing with lovely views and a touch of storybook charm — it’s still worth a try. Just go in with the right expectations.

The Guest House Museum is a historic mansion originally built in 1892 by the Fort Bragg Redwood Company. Constructed mainly from coastal redwood, it served as the residence of the Johnson Family, who owned the company. Over time, it was used to showcase wood products and host VIP guests visiting the mill and logging sites. Eventually donated to the city in 1985, it now houses the headquarters of the local historical society.
Beautiful place with so much history about Mendocino County and Fort Bragg in general. The staff was very knowledgeable and was more than happy to answer all questions. The building has been renovated recently and is in pristine condition. Great place for a family on vacation to learn about the area. Plus who gets to see a piece of the largest Redwood Tree ever cut down in Mendocino County.

Best view in town is on the south steps of the museum. I recommend you bring a friend and get a cup of coffee next door at Zappa’s / Mendocino Cookie Co. The steps face south so are protected from the wind, get great sun when it’s sunny and are under a roof if it’s raining. I wouldn’t be sharing this spot except that my coffee buddy moved away. We only met here on weekday mornings when there were few people around.

Took a day trip to Fort Bragg and was attracted by the large tree artifact in the yard of the Guest House. Took some pictures in front of it then headed to the house. The ocean view is marvelous from the stairs. The museum is free and you may roam as you please. They have many old artifacts from furniture and office supplies to working tools and equipment. The first and second floors are available to explore, but the third floor is off limits. It's a beautiful home. I wasn't too interested in the artifacts displayed, but it is nice.

Nature & Parks
Pomo Bluffs Park, also known as Chicken Point and Todd Point, is a 25-acre city park in Fort Bragg. It features coastal hiking and biking trails, benches, restrooms, interpretive signs, and offers stunning views of the waves crashing against the rocky bluff. The park is a popular spot for watching gray whales during their migration season from February to April and provides a beautiful vista for observing boats entering and leaving Noyo Harbor.
Beautiful trails to walk with seating and pet waste stations. Gorgeous views of the harbor and ocean. Lots of photo opportunities and the perfect place to catch the sunset while you listen to the waves crashing, the harbor horn blowing and the bell of the buoys chiming.

Review: Pomo Bluffs Park – A Scenic Coastal Stop Worth Visiting If you’re traveling along California’s northern coast and need a scenic place to stretch your legs, Pomo Bluffs Park is a fantastic pit stop. Located near Fort Bragg, this small park offers breathtaking ocean views, well-maintained walking trails, and a peaceful atmosphere perfect for a quick break before heading inland. I stopped here while making my way back to California’s Central Valley and took my dog for a walk. The trails were clean and well-kept, and the weather was perfect, making for an enjoyable experience. There are benches placed along the bluffs, offering a great spot to sit and watch the waves crash against the rugged coastline. The park is also well-maintained, with trash bins available to help keep the area tidy. That said, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. Some of the interpretive signage is quite weathered and could use some upkeep. Additionally, if you’re visiting with small children or pets, extra caution is needed—there are dramatic cliffs with steep drop-offs, which could pose a serious safety risk. Overall, I’d rate Pomo Bluffs Park a solid 4 out of 5 stars. While it may not be a traditional park with picnic areas or playgrounds, it serves as a stunning rest stop and a perfect place to soak in the last ocean views before heading inland. Whether you’re arriving at the coast from State Route 20 or making your way back, this is a must-stop spot for anyone looking to experience the beauty of California’s coastline.
John Y — Google review
This location is exposed to the elements, and you will be able to see and feel the power of the ocean, where the ocean collides with the mouth of the Noyo River. It is easily accessed by car putting you right there. If given the chance, during certain times, you can witness the Coast Guard taking their boat through this treacherous waterway. Very impressive.

We loved the view from the bluffs! It would be a great place to set up some chairs and watch the sunset. There aren't any facilities there and it's a short walk to the edge but it's worth the very little effort to get there.

The Sea Glass Museum is a charming and laid-back museum housed in a converted home, featuring an array of colorful sea glass and a gift shop. Captain Forrington, the founder, owner, and curator of the museum, advocates for establishing a research facility to study the marine benefits of glass minerals. The museum showcases over 150,000 pieces of glass collected in the area and transformed into intriguing objects.
Lots of history here, and Captain Cass is very knowledgeable. My favorite part was the black light room.

It is run by Captain Cass. Entrance is free ,but donations are welcomed. We can buy some items made out of glass collected from the beach. It is open throughout the year except on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day from 10 am-5 pm.

The Sea Glass Museum in Fort Bragg was a wonderful experience. It was far more educational and in depth than I expected, and I walked away learning so much about the history and science behind sea glass. The displays are very well organized and thoughtfully put together, making it easy to follow along and really understand the story being told. This is much more than just a quick five-minute stop for tourists—it is a place where you can spend real time exploring and appreciating the details. What made the visit especially memorable was the knowledge and enthusiasm of the owner. He clearly has a deep passion for the subject and is eager to share it with visitors. The way he explained the history, the process, and the significance of sea glass added so much richness to the experience. It is rare to find someone so willing to share their expertise in such an approachable and engaging way. If you are visiting Fort Bragg, the Sea Glass Museum is absolutely worth your time. It offers a unique and educational perspective on something many of us might overlook, and it leaves you with a new appreciation for the beauty and history hidden in every piece of sea glass.
Addison R — Google review
We traveled from the East Coast to Ft Bragg spent for our love of sea glass. Got to the museum at 4:30. Very nice exhibit and video explaining the history. However, at 4:50 the bearded curator turned off all the lights in the gift shop and museum and told us “it’s closing time. You gotta go”. It was 10 minutes before closing time and we hadn’t even seen the gift shop/local sea glass jewelry. Very disappointed. He was very disengaged-never even spoke to us when we arrived or for the 20 minutes we were there. Very different than any museum experience I’ve ever had

If you're in Fort Bragg and have even a passing interest in sea glass or coastal history, the Sea Glass Museum is a must-visit. Located at 303 N Main St Ste F, this modest yet captivating museum houses an extensive collection of sea glass pieces in various colors and forms, including rare finds like uranium glass that glows under black light. Admission is free, with a suggested donation of $2 for adults, making it an accessible stop for all visitors. The museum is curated by Captain J.H. "Cass" Forrington, a passionate sea glass collector, and offers educational displays organized by color and type, providing insights into the history and origins of sea glass from the nearby Glass Beach. The adjacent gift shop features a variety of sea glass jewelry and related items, perfect for souvenirs or gifts. Whether you're a dedicated collector or just curious, the Sea Glass Museum offers a unique and informative experience that highlights the beauty and history of sea glass.
Marc J — Google review
Very cute and interesting place. Had just visited Glass Beach and wanted to see some of the items from the past. The beach is pretty picked over of all bigger pieces, but tons of small tumbled glass.
Cassandra G — Google review
The museum is located inside a mall of sorts that has a salon and restaurants and other stores. It's a very colorful museum with all the different types of glass found. The rare purple from old apothecary bottles. The vaseline glass that glows under black light. Learning about what items these pieces used to be was interesting. It's free but donations are encouraged. There is also a gift shop with all types of glass art and jewelry as well as other items. I think it's worth a visit before heading out to Glass Beach to look for your own treasures.

The Coastal Trail in Fort Bragg, California is a newly-completed pathway that spans the entire coastline from the Noyo River to Pudding Creek and extends into MacKerricher State Park. The trail meanders through former industrial lands and offers stunning views of the coast. It has recently become accessible by foot, providing an opportunity for hikers to enjoy its unique areas and spectacular vistas.
Gorgeous views, and great vibes. Retired Ranger Ron was definitely the highlight of this visit. While he has a lot of knowledge of the restoration efforts along the trail, it was the glass pebble he gave me and encouragement to make a wish for something intangible that warmed my heart 🫶🏾

Easy to get to. We walked to the beach and joined all of the other people looking through the polished glass. It was more pleasant an experience than i expected. The mighty pacific is so powerful!

Nice, windy walk to the beach. Saw some nice wild flowers, and the beach was interesting with different pool areas. The squirrels are brave&funny.

Weather was fantastic! Sky was blue, air was clean and ocean beautiful. Makes taking a walk along the coastal trail very easy. Parking is free and the scenary was great.

It is beautiful! But disappointing. We wanted to see Glass Beach, but it is not easy to get to. We meet a little chipmunk/gopher(?) who wanted to visit with us, even posed! The wave action is amazing to watch!
Debbie L — Google review
Awesome trail. The only knock is its route runs near the H2O treatment facility, and it's stinky near there. Ignoring that, the views are spectacular. There's some wildlife of interest. Loads of history about the area. There are a few people experiencing homelessness, and a couple dudes getting high; low risk. Glass Beach is connected.
Michael F — Google review
If you're looking for a scenic trail that offers stunning views of the ocean and rocks, look no further. This trail is not only nice, but it's also conveniently located near a medium-sized parking lot. While it may not be suitable for RVs, vans should be able to park here with ease. Once you're on the trail, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of the ocean and rocks. And if you're interested in exploring more of the area, you'll be pleased to know that this trail is also located near Glass Beach. This beach is a unique site that was formed from the remnants of garbage dumps from the 1900s, giving it a one-of-a-kind beauty that you won't find anywhere else. So if you're in the area, make sure to check out this trail and all the nearby attractions. Glass Beach in California is a unique site that was formed from the remnants of garbage dumps in the 1900s. Over time, the waves have smoothed and polished the glass, creating a beautiful beach covered in smooth, colorful glass pebbles. It's a popular spot for beachcombing and sightseeing.
Kobe T — Google review
We drove part of the coast, and walked the trails around Glass Beach. Glass Beach is an absolutely beautiful area, but is not what you see pictures of on Google. Regardless of law, the beach has been combed over and long since gone are the beaches of shimmering sea glass. Now, you can spot pieces here or there, but it's sparse, and if you blinked you'd miss it. So expect a beautiful coastal cliff and beach region, but don't spend time looking for a beach of rounded beach glass pebbles... it isn't there anymore. Fort Bragg is a quaint little sea side town, but do your research on the hotels, and book early. Also, ask the locals about the best seafood spots, you could miss them if you didn't know where to go. We didn't ride the "world-famous" Skunk Train, but heard nice things about it, again, book ahead. Lastly, don't forget that the fog doesn't lift early, so early morning pictures are a little more difficult, but we did spot sea lions out on the hunt for breakfast, and I still managed to get some photos that rivaled the afternoon before. It was a very enjoyable, picturesque visit.

Noyo Headlands Park, located in Fort Bragg, is a popular tourist destination that opened to the public in 2015. The park offers stunning coastal views and is part of the network of attractions in the area. Nearby, MacKerricher State Park features the Coastal Trail with a historic train trestle, while Glass Beach, known for its colorful glass mixed with pebbles, is adjacent to the state park.
Beautiful stretch of walk along the cliffs and Pacific coast. The ocean scape is simply amazing, clear and deep blue water and blue skies. The trail is flat and easily doable with even little kids and strollers. There are some inroads from the main trail that take you nearer to the ocean. And there are numerous boards along the way that educate visitors about local plants, animals and indigenous people. There are flora and lots of colorful flowers and ferns along the trail.

We went on June 11th. It was in the high 50s and super windy. By doing a little research we were able to find an area where not too many people were and was absolutely loaded with glass and beautiful rocks. Glad that my girls were able to see and be around something so amazing. Tons of rocks and glass in different sizes.

The beach is a great place to unwind, have a picnic, or simply enjoy the view of the Pacific Ocean. One of the park’s greatest advantages is its relatively quiet and less crowded atmosphere. Whether taking a leisurely walk along the trails, sitting by the river, or simply gazing out at the ocean, the park offers a chance to slow down and appreciate the simple beauty of the natural world. In conclusion, Noyo Headlands Park is a stunning and peaceful coastal destination that offers visitors a chance to experience the natural beauty of the Mendocino Coast in a tranquil, less crowded environment. The park’s ocean views, river access, diverse wildlife, and well-maintained trails make it a perfect spot for hiking, birdwatching, and enjoying the outdoors. Its blend of natural beauty, wildlife, and history makes it a true gem on the Mendocino Coast, and it will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on anyone who has the chance to explore it.

Fantastic place to see one of the rawer areas on California's Pacific Coast with ease, take a walk with birds, like oystercatchers, various gulls, cormorants and more, ground squirrels, tidepool marine life and such, and the sounds of the sea in the background. It's right next to the harbor and oceanside dinner after relaxation and working up an appetite.

My wife and I rode our electric scooters on this trail. The scenic bike path has beautiful coastal views and access to quality restaurants and gift shops near by. It is dog friendly and people friendly too. A few passersby’s said “good morning” or “hi,” as we traveled around the trail for a good 5 miles or so. There is one spot near the parking lot where we sensed a foul smell. It might have been a public bathroom or a massive designated bird pooping area, but hold your nose and once you pass it the smell is replaced by clean ocean breeze.

During my recent weekend escape to Fort Bragg, I stumbled upon the Noyo Center for Marine Science, a true gem dedicated to marine conservation and education. This nonprofit organization emerged from community efforts aimed at enhancing the local economy while promoting innovative research and expanding marine science education in schools. The center plays a vital role in protecting coastal ecosystems and engaging both residents and visitors through its interactive exhibits.
Tons of information. Very impactful, loved the marine surround 360 degree video room and narration. Jacquelyn was very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the experience and will go back.

My daughter noticed this store as we were driving into Fort Bragg. We didn't have much time but the woman working in the store was so kind and knowledgable. I wish I had more time to spend in there and I also wish I would have purchased more items because they had a variety of unique conservationist artist items for sale. I will definitely be back and purchase. Unique and beautiful experience.

Fun little place to take the kids. There's a gift shop and then the exhibits are in the back, including a huge orca skeleton. Kids are free adults are a 5 dollar donation.
Candice M — Google review
Located in a small business front, it's a gift shop when you first walk in. $5 for 18 and up to enter the center located beyond the gift shop. 18 and under are free! It's quaint with mostly bones and other marine animal artifacts. It's pretty cool how many bones and skeletons they've obtained from animals that have naturally passed. If you love whale artifacts, go here! I got to hold a sea urchin which was cute. My favorite part was the whale baleen on display. You can touch most things with two fingers, but please don't pick it up!

Noyo Harbor, situated along the Noyo River, is a charming spot known for its fresh seafood. The Noyo Fish Company at the harbor offers a diverse selection of seafood items, including must-try fish tacos and an array of fried seafood. As one of the few working harbors on the West Coast, it provides a picturesque setting with fishing vessels heading out to sea and returning with fresh catches. The bustling docks and boats contribute to the authentic seaport atmosphere.
This is an area used by the locals as a seaport. There are are several restaurants and shops as well. Quite a few seals make this their home base and you can watch them from the fence

This handicapped accessible paved path is frequented by bikers, hikers, strollers, rollerbladers, and runners. The trestle bridge spans over half a mile and offers stunning views of the nearby coast.
This was our view from across the street from Best Western Hotel. It's an easy walk here, but we drove anyway 😂 Sadly, by the time we decided to visit, it was a bit more cloudy and rainy but beautiful anyway.

I've lived in California my whole life and honestly this is one of the coolest beaches ⛱️ for kids to play the creek that runs to the ocean has a steady flow so it stays clean but doesn't have a fast current. Perfect for littles to play in the water and it wasn't that cold. Fin place to explore. We will 1,000% be coming back.

The property features a restaurant and bar, where guests can enjoy Californian cuisine with garden and marina views. The inn provides amenities such as onsite massages, terrace, garden, complimentary wireless internet access, wedding services, and tour/ticket assistance.
We stopped here for lunch. It was a gorgeous day so we sat outside and listened to the seals. This is such a beautiful location, along the river. The service was really great. We had the fish tacos (a special) and they were delicious. Next time we stay in the area I would love to stay here.
H P — Google review
Location location location. Beautiful location and nice grounds surround the inn. We had room #1. It was a mixed bag... On the winning side was the bathroom. AWESOME water pressure. Double shower head in the shower was very nice and the large tub was good too. The main room looked very nice... Woodwork everywhere and a highly decorated gas fireplace was perfect for setting a mood... But the mood was diminished by a floorboard that wouldn't stop creaking, including while using the bed. Would've been ok if in a huge building, but felt like the whole inn would hear us screwing. Guess I'm just too modest. The other negative was ants. Little tiny ants just about everywhere. You'd never notice them if you were only in the room for ten minutes... But after spending 2 nights, I saw ants in both the bedroom and the bathroom. Highly recommend management get some ant-bait traps.
Lawrence L — Google review
We had a reservation, but were only offered the patio on a chilly night (being offered blankets for dinner is never a good sign) as the only available option. The food was good, overall, but the service was terrible. Waiting times for ordering and between courses was absurdly long. When I finally inquired, I was told that they had to serve a table of fourteen and were understaffed. Note to management: this is never a good excuse, and not the responsibility of patrons. We wouldn't eat here again.

A beautiful spot overlooking our own Noyo Harbor where no expense for aesthetic beauty has been overlooked. Our server Serenity was a great guide for the experience. I recommend the Candy Cap 🍄 old fashioned, a great blast to your palette with a nice hint of maple syrup very smooth. I also had the clams and mussels in their own special pesto cream sauce which left me wanting more. I tried the appetizer but next time it may be on the pasta as it’ll I had to hold up from drinking the broth. The entire experience was enough to make you forget where you were or that there was life going on around you. It will be a place I return to.

It's one of the few off-leash dog beaches in the area and offers stunning views of Noyo Bay. The beach is perfect for spending a day with furry friends, allowing them to roam freely and enjoy the sand and water.
This off-leash dog beach is nice and simple. I will say, it was not easy to find. Google maps says that it is in the middle of the road, so we were confused about how to find it. It is further than Google maps tells you it is. Drive under Noyo River Bridge and then you can park in the parking lot that is right there.

It's really nice, if you like watching the boats coming in or want to capture some good sunset shots! But man, the aroma of the sea gets quite pungent down there. The beach is rocky, and has a lot of sticks and logs. But it's a nice little alcove...of seaweed! 😁

Redwoods. I am 4th Generation to Fort Bragg California 95437 Otis Johnson is my favorite places to go. It was logged like every place in the history of the Mendocino coast many years ago. They only down fall is the city workers doesn't clean up wind falls or enforce people from dumping their yard waste there. Also the city workers have failed to fix rain water damage which is dangerous to walk on the main trail. Just be really careful when you walk out there. But Enjoy

They host various events and displays throughout the year, including a yearly event to support local artists in the county. The gallery offers ongoing displays of artwork, featuring monthly rotating solo and group exhibits.
Every time I am on the Mendocino Coast, I make it a priority to stop in the Northcoast Artist Gallery. If you only have time to check out one gallery this is the gallery to visit. OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!
Heidi A — Google review
Visited for a few days, originally I had plans to leave town Friday morning but stopped in to this gallery. Found wonderful whale sculptures which had not been priced since I followed the artist from her car holding a whale sculpture in to the gallery. It was her first day at the gallery and she was setting up. After waiting a couple of hours for the items to be priced, I decided to come back the next week. I looked up the hours online (11-5 M-Sun). I live a couple of hours away, an hour in to my 2.5 hour drive I decided to call the gallery as I would be getting in to town around 4:30. I wanted to ensure they would be open. The lady that answered informed me that they close at 4. When I said I had drove an hour already, thinking they closed at 5 - her response was “oh sorry, that was from before Covid”. It’s November, Covid has been around for 8+ months and is no longer a proper excuse. Safe to say, I’ve given up on purchasing a whale sculpture. Their “new hours” are supposedly 11-4 Fri-Mon... very far from what is posted online. Bummer for the brand new artist who would have sold two whale sculptures today. I also have since suggested google updated hours via the app.

Located in the heart of Fort Bragg, California, North Cliff Hotel offers a luxurious stay with its well-appointed suites featuring gas fireplaces and ocean-view balconies. The hotel provides complimentary breakfast and is conveniently close to popular attractions such as Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens and Noyo Harbor. Guests can enjoy amenities like free Wi-Fi, a fireplace in the lobby, and self-parking.
We stayed in the king suite with the jacquizzi tub, it was amazing. The view was perfect, the room was clean and very comfortable. The fog horn did not bother us at all ( bit there are ear plugs provided if needed)and we slept with the sliding door open every night. If we ever come back to Ft Bragg we will definitely be staying here.
Sarah C — Google review
We stayed here for the 1st time in one of the king jacuzzi fireplace rooms. It was a corner room with amazing views of both the harbor and ocean. The room was very clean and we took full advantage of the jacuzzi and fireplace! You can definitely hear the "foghorn" - which I know bothers some people but we did not have any issues with it. We actually thought it was cool and an obvious sign of the working harbor. We will definitely be back.
Janette M — Google review
What a cozy hotel! Our room had a lovely water view, was spacious, and was clean. Some of the furnishings in the room could be updated but it was in good condition. The hotel is centrally located but on a busy highway which seems to be the norm in Fort Bragg. Parking is limited during peak busy times, however it was nice that the parking lot was a bit removed from the highway. I think the hotel should disclose the foghorn that goes off every 30 seconds. We didn’t mind it for the most part but it could bother light sleepers or folks that like to leave their sliding door open when relaxing. Ear plugs were also provided. The grab-and-go breakfast was no frills. I appreciated that it was available and did use it. In terms of service, the older woman who helped us book a separate night was extremely helpful. The younger woman who checked us in was kind of rude and did not have a hospitable demeanor. Overall, would recommend for a comfortable stay in Fort Bragg.
Marisa S — Google review
I stayed here with my family while we explored Fort Bragg for the first time and it was a lovely experience! The view from the hotel is beautiful, you’re right by the water and right off the highway/main road. We were able to walk to various places but preferred driving because of how the road is built and how busy it is. This hotel is super close to everything, shops, restaurants, and viewpoints. The hotel itself was clean and managed well. Our room was organized, the bathroom had nice soap and shampoo/conditioner included, and we never had trouble getting parking in the small lot they have. They also had breakfast in the mornings which was nice because we were able to grab something on the go when we were heading out. Very nice staff, would stay here again!
Liliana M — Google review
Stayed at the North Cliff Hotel in early August (Friday–Saturday) and paid about $650 for two nights. Overall it was borderline adequate for a short stay. The wifi only worked for a few hours during my stay, which normally wouldn’t be a big deal, but I had an unexpected car issue and had to sit in the lobby to handle it because cell reception in the area is poor. So do not expect to have connectivity of staying here. The biggest drawback is the location overlooking the port entrance. The fog horn — which I didn’t see mentioned much when I booked — goes off every 30 seconds, 24/7/365. It’s not a classic nice nautical low foghorn sound either; it’s a digital tone like a modern school bell, and while it’s tolerable with the balcony door closed, it’s definitely noticeable and makes it hard to enjoy the otherwise nice view. No AC (also not clearly advertised), though the room wasn’t hot enough to be a problem. I ended up using the provided fan both to keep cool and to help mask the fog horn. Fixtures and furniture could use some updating — nothing terrible, but a bit worn. On the plus side, the staff were nice and genuinely tried their best to be accommodating and helpful. Overall, a mediocre stay. The value is definitely not there, and it’s not somewhere I’d be in a rush to book again, especially for the price.
Rustin M — Google review
This was a cute, scenic place to stay. I would seriously recommend NOT staying here if you are sensitive to noise. The foghorn is loud and relentless. We should have read the reviews. Also there is no air conditioning. We probably would not book again.
Michelle B — Google review
We just got home after spending 4 day at the North Cliff, room was very nice and the bed was wonderful. My wife and I come to Ft Bragg several times a year and normally stay on the north side of town, we wanted something different so I booked a Superior Suite. It was large and roomy breakfast was good. Will stay again!
Dean T — Google review
The view from this hotel is absolutely breathtaking. All the levels are raised, so you can see out to the ocean. There was no AC in our room; however, you do not need it. It is very cool and you can open the patio door to let in the cool air. For those that are light sleepers, there is a fog horn that goes off in the distance every 5 to 10 mins (or so), so you do hear it IF the door is open. For us, it was like white noise. But for those that are light sleepers, I want to point that out. And it is NOT specific to this hotel, it is just the area along the coast there since it faces the ocean where boats can come into the harbor. The breakfast was phenomenal. It is a grab-n-go, but this was unlike any other grab-n-go breakfast I have experienced across the 36 states I have traveled. They had some gluten-free options (muffins) and hardboiled eggs. The staff were amazing and friendly. We will definitely be staying here when we come back. As a side not for those traveling north to get here - interstate 20 has some intense switchbacks for most of the road through the forest. My kids got car sick, and we drive in the mountains in AZ frequently. One of the employees recommended interstate 128 as an alternative option, and it was SO much better (thank you!).

Surf and Sand Lodge is a casual beachfront hotel in Fort Bragg, offering relaxed rooms with views of the sea. The lodge is conveniently located within walking distance to the city center and close to attractions like Glass Beach and Skunk Train Railroad Company. While there's no on-site dining, guests can easily access nearby restaurants, and coffee is available in the office. Upstairs (if you don't mind the stairs) is best view from room especially with a balcony. Beds were very comfortable, bathroom nice (great shower, hot water perfect). Off the highway so easy to get to and yet very quiet. All good!

The view was spectacular. The room was a very strange setup. There was no breakfast. We have been returning customers for around ten years. Only once were we able to get the room we asked for. This time we booked over a month in advance and were told they should be able to accommodate us. Not the case. The room they gave us had the shower in the middle of the room. Open on both sides and you needed a step stool to get in and it was very difficult to get out. The entire room would be full of steam. We are older folks and this was not cool. We were told no other rooms were available. The sliding glass door was almost impossible to open or close. We asked for it to be fixed. Don't know if they tried or not. That was a bummer. We left before our booked stay ended. Thought our loyalty to the hotel would be considered but not so. We love Ft. Bragg but may have to reconsider our accommodations should we return.
Dwight G — Google review
Glad we stayed here. The staff were kind and welcoming and check in was a breeze. I like how the units are separated into buildings of four rooms each. Every room appears to have ocean views. We stayed upstairs with an incredible view of the ocean from our balcony. It was foggy so we couldn’t see much but having the slider open while we slept was so pleasant to listen to the waves crashing. The room was so spotlessly clean! We were pleased with how thoroughly maintained it was. They were spacious also. It was kind of strange having the sink outside the bathroom though. I’m not a fan of the wall dispensers for shampoo and soap. Often they are not filled consistently by cleaning staff. There was no working A/C in our room which made it hot overnight but fortunately we could open the sliding balcony door to cool off. Would definitely stay here again!
Laurel H — Google review
Stayed here last week for my first time in Fort Bragg. Couldn't have asked for a better view. We spent much of our evenings on the patio looking at the ocean and watching the sunset. There's a great public trail behind the hotel thats perfect for strolling. And there are many trails out to the ocean as well. We had a king size bed with an ocean view. My only complaint about the room was that the sink/vanity wasn't located inside the bathroom, which i found a bit inconvenient. But other than that, the rooms were clean and comfortable. Staff was very helpful and friendly. I appreciated that they don't enter your room during your stay, you call to request services as you need them. Would definitely go back, maybe bring my dog, since they are pet friendly. Highly recommend!

My husband and I stay here every year with our kids. I love that this place is right off the trail and I can walk to the beach whenever I want I like the balcony that allows me access to the trail. The rooms have a Keurig, microwave and mini fridge. I like that the entrance to the rooms feel like condos. I just wish the beds were firmer. But I always enjoy my stay. My favorite is the owners suite with full kitchen, family room and 2 bedrooms

Thank goodness for the outdoor heaters! We are not locals and forgot our sweatshirts. We enjoyed the food, the atmosphere, and the service. I really like that you order before you find a table. The crab rolls were delicious! Kids enjoyed their cheeseburgers. The best, of course, goes to the oysters on the half shell. Yum! -Regina

There is no shortage of places to eat fresh seafood in Fort Bragg, and we had a hard time choosing, but this place stood out based on its views, menu, and ambiance. You have to drive down into a marine district where there are many distributors, fishing outfits, fish shacks, and restaurants. There will be many distractions, but stay focused as you have found the right place. You have to drive out to the point (back towards the direction of the bridge). There is plenty of parking and a large seating area, so don't stress if there is a line. The main restaurant might be under construction, so they are serving on the deck, yes, there are umbrellas. You order from the register, and they will bring your food to you. I ordered a crab roll and coleslaw along with a lemonade. Others ordered fish sandwiches (I think), and there were a few poke bowl orders. They sell wine and beer, which is lovely to have while you wait for your food and watch the fishing boats come and go. This is a great spot, offering excellent service and delicious food. Don't be shy, step up and get in line, you won't be disappointed.

Outstanding in every way. We had rockfish tacos and a spicy crab appetizer. Everything from atmosphere to service to the view was top notch…and it wouldn’t surprise me if we made it back again this week. We didn’t have too much trouble finding close by parking, and the seating area even had a few heaters on our chilly day. Everything about this place was five stars, and I’m surprised at how affordable our food felt.

Amazing view, quick service, and tasty food. Better than Boudin in San Francisco for sure. Highly recommend the Lobster Bisque! I don't eat seafood typically and I even loved the bisque. The crab roll is great if you LOVE crab so my review is biased against it but it's still a 7/10

This was my favorite meal we had while in Mendocino/Fort Bragg which is saying a lot because all the meals we had were great! My husband and I shared: - BBQ Oysters - Lemon Garlic and Chipotle Bourbon - West Coast Crab Roll - Rockfish Sandwich We came here for the crab roll and while it was very good, it was actually my least favorite of the 3 things we ordered. I loved the Rockfish Sandwich and the Chipotle Bourbon oysters!

Food was delicious. I had the grilled shark bowl. Fingerliking. The oysters were good but had a strange texture. (I know oysters) Service is not there. You have to order at the bar. They bring it but you have to bring your dishes back. Location is very beautiful. They close already at 1600… quite early….

I've lived in noyo harbor for 40 years. I must stop and remember that we are all blessed, woohoo! It's a beautiful world we live in, don't you know?

This is my absolute fav place to hang in Ft Bragg! I LOVE the food, the people, the eclectic atmosphere. The glossy green waters with slick seals and passing boats create a relaxing experience. An afternoon can float by, especially with a nice libation.

Beautiful little harbour but fairly run down. Some interesting shops and restaurants which open whenever they feel like it, Calafornia coastal time?

Peaceful, great views and you might get lucky enough to see a seal along the way.

Went with Fort Bragg Fishing Charters. Although the fish didn't cooperate, the Captain and Mate worked very hard to make my trip very enjoyable. Can't go wrong with this choice.

Nestled in Fort Bragg, the Larry Spring Museum of Common Sense Physics is a unique two-room museum honoring the life and work of local inventor and World War II pilot, Larry Spring. The museum showcases Spring's unconventional experiments and theories that challenge traditional physics and electricity concepts. Visitors can engage in hands-on activities and explore vintage home goods at Lost Coast Found within the same building. It's an intriguing spot for families to discover the fascinating world of this creative scientist while delving into local history.
The tour guide was very knowledgeable. You have to request to see the museum. Also, fyi, Larry died in 2009. Recommendations to going in the summer because there’s more events

Fun spot to stop in when you visit Fort Bragg. A lot of hands on activities and things to see for the whole family. It does not take much time but definitely worth the visit.

There wasn't much to see you there. It was supposed to be a docent there but nobody was in the place to explain much.

Beautiful photos on display, the aluminum prints in particular have really vibrant colors. Pictures don't do it justice, you have to see it in person. The photographers are really nice to talk to, they clearly have a lot of passion for their work. 👍
