Muir Woods National Monument is a picturesque park known for its towering redwood trees and extensive hiking trails. Located in the lush landscape of Mill Valley, it's a popular spot for outdoor enthusiasts interested in activities like hiking, mountain biking, and golf. The area also boasts a vibrant downtown scene with charming cafes, trendy boutiques, and diverse dining options.
I and my wife decided each weekend to hike as many beautiful places as we can in California before the summer ends. We hiked Muir Woods National Monument in September. It's quite hard to book a parking inside the park, so we parked on the street a mile away. From Fremont, it took a little more than an hour to get here. The roads are quite nice. This is the national park and not state park so my yearly pass actually works, so we didn't have to pay anything to walk in. It's a beautiful place, so many nice trees, and the hike is not too long or hilly, less stress on our legs. The weather was hot, but it's quite comfortable in the park. There are creeks with water running quite relaxing, so many big tree with hollow bottoms which is amazing and beautiful. There are quite many trails but we only took the main one in and out for the day so we can visit Stinson Beach near by.

If there is a place, where you might want to renew, and feed your soul, this might be one of them. Muir Woods is breathtakingly beautiful, and tranquil. Well managed walking paths connect you under the canopy of nature, and some of the largest redwoods in the state. Even though there may be a few tourists on your walk, the "woods" seem to offer a quietness, and calm not to be found outside of a temple or place of worship. Nature welcomes you back to your original state, if perhaps for a moment you can quiet yourself to absorb it's magic. There are many trails to choose from depending on your fitness level. Even those in moderate physical condition can walk through the well maintained flat paths that wander throughout. For the more adventurous, there are elevated hikes of varying lengths, and climbs to enjoy this magnificence from various perspectives. Take as much time, or as little as you need. There is a well equipped visitors center for souvenirs and refreshment, should you require it. Rangers stationed at key spots, will offer in depth information regarding the park, its fauna, flora and history. Well worth a visit.

Beautiful park with majestic views. Nice easy walk on the boardwalk path. Nice gift shop. Very friendly atmosphere. Reservations required! ! ! Fun drive down to park is a windy adventure of its own. If you want to see Redwood trees with no issues this is a great spot.
Mark F — Google review
Unbelievable trees truly a special place if you like trees. However the parking system is not ideal very over complicated they make drive all the way back out the valley to get signal to reserve parking to then drive all the way back down. Other than that it was a fantastic experience the red woods are amazing.

Had a great experience here at Muir Woods National Park! Such a sight to see with all the beautiful preserved trees and trails! It's a great place to go to get a breather away from the city and really inhale the air! Nature is amazing and being here made me really appreciate national parks and the services they provide to keep things alive and thriving! Definitely worth a visit if you want to see some nice redwoods and greenery and take a nice hike!
Matthew D — Google review
Muir Woods is truly a breathtaking experience! Walking among the towering redwoods feels like stepping into another world—peaceful, humbling, and inspiring. The trails are well-marked, offering something for everyone, from easy strolls to longer hikes with beautiful views. The air is crisp and fresh, filled with the scent of the forest, and the sheer size of the trees leaves you in awe. It’s a perfect spot to connect with nature, take photos, and enjoy some quiet reflection. Parking can be tight, so reserving ahead is highly recommended, but it’s absolutely worth the effort. This national treasure is a must-visit for anyone in the Bay Area or Northern California. A magical and unforgettable experience!

With 8 hours layover to spare within the vicinity of SFO, I was deciding between Muir and Sonoma for its Vineyard. Well, I am extremely glad that I picked this. Picture paints a thousand words, yet words cant describe one’s feeling when being surrounded by these ancient giants. It was truly humbling to learn that these Redwood trees has been here long before any present human today, and in its entirety, we are only at 2% of its entire lifespan to date.
Gnaishes A — Google review
Beautiful. Hiked a few trails. Was there for about 4.5 hours. Booked my reservation 11:30-12:00, no waiting. The Canopy View Trail had a warning that it was steep, long & difficult; 4.3 miles total for Canopy View/ Redwood / Sun & Dipsea. I didn’t feel as though it was that steep, decent incline and long but never felt that it was a difficult trail at all. Just buy the parking with your ticket, super simple and no waiting for the shuttle.

Live music venue

Arts organization
Nestled in the historical Masonic Lodge, Sweetwater Music Hall is an intimate venue that offers a blend of roots, folk, and rock music. Originally established in 1972 at a different location, it has hosted legendary performers such as Bob Weir, Etta James, and Van Morrison. After reopening at its current address in Mill Valley, it continues to be a cherished gathering place for the community. The venue prides itself on presenting diverse genres of music while honoring its rich history.
Our wedding reception (hosted here) was absolutely epic! The entire experience at Sweetwater exceeded all our expectations, and we couldn't be happier with how everything turned out. The staff were exceptional--professional, attentive, and so genuinely fun. The service was impeccable, and they made sure that every detail was handled with care and efficiency. We felt incredibly supported throughout the entire event. The food was truly delicious! Our guests were raving about how good everything was. We had fun putting the menu together, we appreciated the suggestions. It all came together amazingly. The vibe was on point! The lighting on stage during performances was perfect--creating a magical atmosphere that complemented our theme beautifully. The way everything was set up was just right and made the evening so special. We especially appreciated being able party late - the fact that we could stay until 1am was very unique for a wedding venue. It made for an extended night of celebration and joy that we will cherish forever. The planning process was smooth and enjoyable. The team's dedication and attention to detail were evident in every aspect of the evening, and we couldn't have asked for a better venue to host our wedding reception.

Had a great time here. Saw my brother in law perform. The band sounded great thanks to the excellent sound system Sweetwater has. Plus the burgers were delicious. I highly recommend checking this club out if you have the opportunity.
Daniel C — Google review
Lovely small venue. Great, intimate setting and the sound system was just perfect for the space. So many venues seems to have too much PA for the space and for me at least, that gets unpleasant. This was a perfect cap to a weekend trip to the SF area. Thank you Sweetwater.
Greg W — Google review
The music is awesome. Sweetwater has some great bands, and appreciative crowds. The hall is just the right size, the music sounds great from wherever you are. We also had an early dinner at Rock N Rye restaurant which was also very good
Anton S — Google review
What a great place to see a rockin dance band. I can’t believe I had never been there before, but I was very impressed by the sound the big old dance floor and pretty much everything. I saw Zepparella there and I would go back to see anybody that had me out on the dance floor. There are not seats for everyone so if you want a seat, you have to get there early.
Michele D — Google review
Great place to see Live music! Nice venue not too dark. Feels like you are up close to the band. All the staff were friendly and nice. Casual and fun with a bit of nostalgia. I expected Steve Nicks to walk through the back door at any minute. We saw St. Splendor and they were amazing musicians. Kate can really sing and they have fun energy!

Equator Coffees is a trendy local coffee chain that offers single-origin coffee, tea, and light bites. The company was founded by Brooke McDonnell and Helen Russell in Marin County. They recently launched their first coffee farm project, Finca Sophia in Panama. Equator also supplies custom blends to renowned restaurants like the Thomas Keller Restaurant Group.
Equator was hopping when I visited on a Saturday afternoon - full of outdoor enthusiasts and weekenders waiting patiently for their fancy coffee orders. They had a great selection of sophisticated latte flavors like honey, lavender, maple and black sesame! Good looked great and a cozy atmosphere. Expensive tho!

A staple Mill Valley place to visit. Seems very popular on the daily with locals and visitors alike. I’m not a big coffee-drinker but I’ve been several times and can attest to the great atmosphere and pretty good food/drink options. Food options include sandwiches, pastries, and sweet/savory waffles. Indoor and outdoor seating available. However, because it’s so busy, if you sit down to the left of the entrance (opposite side from the counter where orders are placed), it’ll be hard to hear your order called. At least my experience has been this way where I’m waiting a while for my order to be called, finally get tired of waiting, walk over to check in with staff, only to find that my order is sitting on the counter but I never heard it called. I got the veggie frittata sandwich and enjoyed it but generally, the food is a bit pricey for the portion size in my opinion. The drink I got was fairly good I think but honestly, not very memorable/standout because I don’t really remember it.
Katia M — Google review
Equator is a great coffee shop located in the middle of mill valley. I love the strawberry matcha here as it may be expensive, but it’s really good. The baristas are very nice and they really bring a welcoming vibe. If your in mill valley and your looking for good coffee and pastries, this is the place.

Equator Coffees in Mill Valley is a must visit when in town. The cold brew is delicious with a smooth flavor that’s great on its own or with some milk. The location is beautiful and perfectly situated downtown, which makes it a great stop whether you are exploring the area or meeting up with someone. The space feels warm and inviting and there is plenty of charm in the surroundings. Overall, it is a reliable and enjoyable coffee stop that fits right into the vibe of Mill Valley.

top of the line state of the art, get the habibi latte. very kind and efficient staff
Angela L — Google review
Great mocha, but service could be improved. We ordered three drinks: a mocha for myself, and my friends got a cappuccino and a Brown Sugar & Cinnamon shakerato (customized to hot instead of iced), plus a butter croissant warmed up. Our favorite was definitely the mocha, I'd highly recommend it! It had the perfect amount of sweetness without overpowering the coffee taste. The cappuccino was good as well. The shakerato wasn't what we expected, though that might be because we ordered it hot instead of trying it iced as intended. Given the cold weather, we thought a hot version would be better. The only reason I'm rating service lower is that our drinks sat on the counter and got cold while they waited to hand all three out together. It would have been better to receive them as they were ready.
V B — Google review
This place is ridiculous, as in it is so good that it should be illegal. The avocado toast was some of the best I have ever had, I ordered three to go for on my way to the airport leaving San Francisco. The seasonal autumn spice latte with the pumpkin cream cold brew was to die for - I found myself getting two in a day for sure!
Bailee M — Google review
I had a few different iced “dessert” lattes, they tasted good and balanced. But I got a large hot oat milk latte a few times and all of them disappointed. They tasted diluted, watery and bland. Also they charge extra for to go cups and alternative milk.

Mexican restaurant
Restaurant
Located in downtown Mill Valley, Playa is a trendy indoor-outdoor restaurant that offers modern Mexican cuisine and signature cocktails. The vibrant atmosphere makes it a popular spot for all ages, with special attention to providing options for kids. In addition to its delicious food and artisan cocktails, Playa also hosts events like the Wednesday Special Chicken Dinner benefiting local schools. The restaurant's proximity to other dining options and shopping areas in the village-style downtown area makes it a convenient stop for locals and visitors alike.
This was honestly one of the best dining experiences I've had in months. We had the Guacamole y Totopos, Pork and Chicharron Asian Pear Tacos, and Birria Tacos. The chips were super crunchy, salty, and definitely homemade. The guacamole was super tasty, I wish there was more of it. haha. The pork tacos were good, but they needed a bit of salsa. They were next level after putting some Salsa Verde one them. The birria tacos were amazing. Basically mini quesadillas. The dipping broth was of course great too. When my tacos were gone, I drank the whole bowl. Our server brought us a complimentary dessert which was amazing. It was ice cream with chocolate, nuts, basil, and what I think was an oil. Our service was the highlight. Luis A was kind, complimentary, and personable. The dude just made our whole night. He was there when we needed him, and went out of his way to take care of us and talk with us. He told us about his son and his wife, and him giving us free dessert was more than nice of him. He made the night very special for us and was just amazing! I watched him and the other servers moving quickly to take care of guests and even use a knife to get stuff out from in between the wood planks in the table while cleaning up. The atmosphere was great. Exposed brick, lots of windows with natural light, pretty lights, a well-stocked bar, clean and professional-looking staff. Even their bathrooms were nice. We had such a good time. We will be back again!
Shawn G — Google review
Overall, a very good experience. Places is definitely bustling and clearly one of the livelier spots in town. Wait staff were friendly and extremely professional. Food was good as well, but at least in my opinion is in that odd spot where it’s a little overly presented, and although flavorful didn’t really pack that really integrated and flavorful punch that you get excited about experiencing. That being said, we only had a few of the smaller plates, and the chips and guacamole and salsa are definitely excellent. Drinks were solid as well although a little bit on the lighter and sweeter side. Would definitely dine here again.
Porschephilia — Google review
One of my favorite places in Mill Valley - stellar food with amazing atmosphere. We had the guac and it is the perfect blend of flavor. Baja Fish and Camarones tacos are *chef’s kiss*. The patio is a slice of absolute heaven.

This is the place for an elevated Mexican experience! Beautiful interiors and amazing food! Highly recommended. Agua Frescas are highly refreshing.

Not sure why this place doesn’t have 5 stars. Food was amazing , drinks were amazing, and from the start before entering the building the experience was super. Thank you everyone that works at Playa for making this experience a great one
J A — Google review
Great restaurant. Only recently heard about it and tried it. I have nothing bad to say about the place - food was great. We didn’t have a single dish that I’d say was a miss. Service was what you’d expect for a nice restaurant. Atmosphere was also great. We sat at an out door patio that was mostly covered, but allowed for dogs. Indoor section was also bright and airy, with a nice modern aesthetic. The drink menu was also really great, with a strong selection of cocktails. This might just be my favorite restaurant right now in Mill Valley. Though, I’m fairness, I haven’t been to that many restaurants there. I’d definitely return.
Nicholas M — Google review
Overall delicious food, tasty drinks, and a lovely flan. Exactly what I wanted for my solo dinner on a work trip.
Monica G — Google review
So our friends took us to this restaurant and they really raved about it. On the outside of the restaurant, you see a sign with the Michelin logo on it so that was a good sign, right? The atmosphere is fantastic and the place was packed. We got the chips and salsa and the elote corn which are both excellent but then when we all got our mains which were the grilled fish tacos, carnitas tacos, and vegetable tacos we were underwhelmed. The main problem was that the spices were too overpowering so you couldn't taste the flavor of the protein or vegetables. The service was excellent and very attentive. Like all restaurants these days, this place was up there in expense around $50 per person and that included the cocktail each.

Small, quaint. We saw Jeff Ross there in April. It was great! Cozy, expensive pre-selected alcoholic beverages. They have only cookies so eat before you come inside. Nice art was displayed when we were there. I enjoyed the evening.

I've mostly attended children's performances and they desperately need some sort of microphone system. It looks like they have overhead mics but they don't use them. It would make the experience so much better if you actually hear all of the kids.

Old Mill Park is a must-visit outdoor destination in Mill Valley, California. It's a perfect spot for locals to enjoy the natural beauty and tranquility of the area. The park is complemented by the nearby Dipsea Trail, offering stunning views and an invigorating hiking experience. After a day of outdoor adventures, visitors can explore the vibrant music scene at venues like Sweetwater Music Hall and Throckmorton Theater or catch impressive performances at Marin Theatre Company.
Never tire of bringing our dog here. It is great fun to walk among the old grove Redwoods, check out the creek, hike, and enjoy the beautiful shaded area when much of Marin is hot. Clean restrooms, benches, picnic tables, water fountains, creative playgrounds.

Nice little park, they have a replica of the old mill that started the town of Mill Valley. The park can be crowded during the weekend and parking can be difficult cause its limited.
Town T — Google review
Old Mill Park has that fairy tale vibe in it. The tall trees surrounding the park, and the river that runs through it is so calming. The sound of a soothing nature is so relaxing you dont have to pay anything to enjoy it. Kids play around the area and it will be a nice experience and memory
Oiligriv A — Google review
Lovely park split in two sides: one side has the play structure, restrooms, and water fountain, the other side is across the street, closer to the mill valley library, and includes more picnic tables, the outdoor stage, and more woodsy area. The creek runs through both sides and there’s a little tunnel for it, connecting the sides of the park so some kids walk through it to get to the other side. It’s also very close to the start of the dipsea steps and other great walks around the area. It’s walkable distance to downtown Mill Valley so you might grab lunch downtown and take it to a picnic bench in the park or on your hike.

Cute little redwood tree park just next to the library!
Grace L — Google review
Old mill park had a nice playground surrounded by some beautiful redwoods. There is a main play structure as well as regular and toddler swings. We also really enjoyed walking on the paths among the trees. There is a parking lot and free street parking available too. They had an area with picnic benches next to the main play structure as well as farther down next to the library. Overall a nice, peaceful area to visit with the family and the redwoods are always a beautiful sight!

Beautiful little Park nestled amongst redwood trees and a creek. There is a nice little playground, some swings nearby, a public library nearby, and a great trail head that leads up the side of a mountain with 800 stairs. Challenge yourself!

Old Mill Park is an ideal location for a wedding ceremony beneath the redwoods. The ceremony space offers an elevated stage ringed by trees, with a gentle creek flowing in the background. A natural cathedral-like setting that feels both intimate and grand, especially when the wedding party enters from above the seated guests and wind their way through the redwoods. Commonly paired with a reception at the nearby Mill Valley Community Center. Highly recommend this hidden gem of a park for a beautiful ceremony.

Pizza restaurant
Piazza D'Angelo is an Italian restaurant located near Depot Plaza, offering a bustling atmosphere with a full bar and patio. The restaurant is known for its wood-fired pizza and fresh pasta, drawing in crowds throughout the day and night. In compliance with Marin County guidelines, Piazza D'Angelo has implemented various safety measures such as maintaining 6-foot distance between tables, regular sanitization of surfaces and equipment, and the use of single-use paper menus.
Love this place! The food is delicious and the atmosphere is fun and welcoming. The staff is always very friendly and accommodating; I was recently here with a family member who is in a wheelchair and the staff made sure we were able to get to our table without obstructions. Little things like that really mean a lot. Make sure you save room for desert when you come here-- it's so good!

Food is good, but a bit overpriced for the portions and quality. Servers are incredibly busy and will forget an order occasionally but always apologetic. Risotto was not al dente, butternut squash ravioli was undersalted. Might have just been an issue with the specials that night, as we’ve also had great dishes here (ossobuco).
Jack A — Google review
Food was ok! The crust was mediocre — nothing memorable in texture or flavor. The sauce matched the crust: equally mediocre, lacking depth or freshness. Overall, a pretty forgettable slice.

Piazza D’Angelo in Mill Valley offers a delightful dining experience with great food and warm service. The Margherita pizza was perfectly balanced, the focaccia bread with pesto dip was fresh and flavorful, and the broccolini pizza was a unique treat. A cozy spot for authentic Italian fare. Highly recommend!

A heartfelt thank you to Luigi and his entire team for coordinating such an extraordinary event at the Acqua Hotel for our daughter’s wedding rehearsal! The menu was absolute perfection—every dish was beautifully balanced, with portions and flavors that felt both rich and light. We are especially grateful for your flexibility in accommodating last-minute changes with additional guests, menu items, and drinks. Everything was handled seamlessly and with such professionalism. We look forward to returning to dine in and will be reaching out when it comes time to plan our anniversary or announcement celebration. We couldn’t recommend Piazza D’Angelo more highly—their outstanding service and exquisite menu truly set the standard for hospitality!

Delicious Italian food, I would not say 100% authentic but still very good … they have been here since 1981 for a reason …
Linda T — Google review
Enjoyed my time here. The ambiance is nice. They have outdoor seating with heaters which is a great option. Service was super friendly and we were seated right away even though it looked busy. The food is mediocre except for the pizza. If the pizza wasn’t good, this would’ve been a 3 star review. These guys make a great pizza, in fact I think we had 2 of them. All the pasta dishes lack any kind of rich flavor but instead are just extremely salty. I had the Spaghetti Bolognese and the meat sauce was just overpowered by salt. Appetizers were as expected, Calamari was good but overall the pasta dishes were disappointing. Just get the pizza.
Tony N — Google review
06/22/93 - update - this places still got it, so good. I absolutely loved this place. Best Italian I've had yet around the north bay. Everything ordered was delicious. The only draw back is they don't give free bread. Two pizzas and the Creme Brule were also ordered, but no pictures were taken of that.

New American restaurant
Bungalow 44 is an urban-style upscale American eatery located in downtown Mill Valley, offering a bustling bar scene and a superb location for a night out. The restaurant provides an upscale yet casual atmosphere where patrons can enjoy hand-crafted dishes such as little gems salad, hamachi, mac & cheese with bacon, caramelized onions and truffle oil, petrale sole, and decadent sticky toffee cake.
My friends live in Mill Valley and couldn’t have chosen a better spot for dinner than Bungalow 44. We sat indoors as outdoors was full and had a great time. From the cocktails 🍹 to $1 oysters 🦪 to the hamachi poppers to fish to the flatbread to the dessert everything was delicious. Our server was really nice too, I didn’t catch his name but when I mentioned I’m from Thailand he spoke to me in Thai which was cool! Would definitely go back to Bungalow and recommend it to anyone looking for a nicer spot for dinner in Mill Valley.

I had not been here for many years but will now certainly add it to my favorites. The cooking is absolutely first rate. Someone in the kitchen really knows what they are doing. Professional service too. The gazpacho was unique and awesome. Salmon perfectly soft and warm inside. Barramundi nice and crispy. One quibble: the menu justifies a 4% service fee because of "record inflation". The average 3% inflation over the past five years is hardly a record compared to the 13% levels seen around 1980. The tariffs and deficits may get us to record territory some day, but we are not there now. It would be sufficient to say there is a service fee to better pay staff.

Loved my experience at Bungalow 44 in Mill Valley! The steak frites was absolutely delicious—perfectly cooked and full of flavor. I also had a spicy margarita that was bold, refreshing, and just the right amount of heat. The service was fantastic—super friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The tropical-inspired ambiance made the whole place feel fun and relaxing. Definitely a spot I’ll be coming back to!

We went to bungalow 44 this past weekend and we’re not disappointed! We started off with the hamachi poppers and steak tartare. Both were delicious and a perfect start to the meal. Paired with the starters was an old-fashioned cocktail - very well made. Next, we ordered a few dishes to go with our entrée, we enjoyed the cornbread, the corn ribs, and the gnocchi. The corn ribs were by far the stand out with a fun presentation and delicious sauce. For our entrée, we ordered the pork chop. It came with delicious sides, including polenta and peaches. Unfortunately the pork chop was a little overcooked although they were super busy, so I’m sure the kitchen had a lot going on.

Decided to try Bungalow 44 based on a recommendation, and I’m sure glad we did. We really enjoyed the atmosphere, warm hospitality, and great food. Started off with Hamachi Peppers, which were absolutely bonkers—so tasty! The steak tartare was good, as were the Corn Ribs, quite innovative with a nice sauce and a twist on the usual way of eating corn. Short ribs as a main, with mushroom risotto substituted for mash, were astonishing. Perfectly salted with lots of flavor. The fried chicken was okay. I’ve never understood the concept that well, as the meat is usually quite dry and all the taste is pretty much in the crust. Easy 5/5

Dinned at Bungalow 44 with some friends, and they consider this place one of their favorites in the area. It's my favorite now too! Food is absolutely exceptional and the atmosphere is fabulous. Coming back this weekend again with a party of 12 to celebrate couple of birthdays. Looking forward to another delicious meal!

Food was amazing, ambiance great, service unfortunately pretty bad!! I came in there this Saturday 10/18, my fiance and I got engaged that morning overseeing the sunrise on Golden Gate. We didn't plan anything for dinner and were walk ins Saturday. Our server was a lady probably in her 50's or 60's. Food was incredible, but unfortunately she sucked!! She barely came by, food took forever, she came by and asked how the food was after we were done. Had to flag down another server to get our bill. I waited tables for over 8 years through high school/college, I find it unacceptable to not even ask a guest if they have been there. She didn't go over anything on the menu, I was excited to tell her we got engaged, but she didn't even acknowledge us or ask a single question to even get to that conversation. Food was amazing, but servers like her ruin an amazing experience.

This review is many years too late. Pre-covid. Wife and I stopped in without a reservation on a weekday. I noticed an empty table in front of the fireplace and asked about that table. The server said it has been reserved for 7:30pm. It was 6pm and I told him that we will not have dessert, just an appetizer and entree and leave; and that you can pace us to make sure we are done after 1:15 hours. Done! Had great service, the food was great, and I still think about that experience often. Sorry for being so late with the review!

Nestled on a forested ridge between the majestic peaks of Mt. Tamalpais and Mill Valley, Mountain Home Inn is a charming retreat offering breathtaking mountain views and access to hiking trails. This polished inn is renowned as a romantic getaway above San Francisco Bay, boasting a bar and restaurant that serves delectable meals from breakfast to dinner. The establishment's picturesque location provides an idyllic setting for guests to savor their meals while taking in the stunning vistas.
Beautiful view, charming decor, very friendly staff. Walk a few minutes to trailheads. If you are expecting valet, bell hop, restaurant at hotel, not for you. It has pretty good continental breakfast. You can door dash and eat on lovely deck (I can't imagine what restaurants deliver up there however the lady who checked me in told me there's delivery.) Full bar where you can look at trail maps and get quiche, ham and brie sandwich, etc. I liked my room...room 9 has a large bathtub, little sitting room and balcony.

Another magical evening at one of our favorite places on earth. Mountain Home Inn. We were greeted so warmly by Derrick who quickly checked us in and was so helpful and wonderful to talk to. We loved our newly redecorated and remodeled room (1…what we dubbed “The Fox Room!”) and once again we were mesmerized by the beauty of our surroundings. The things that always stand out to me when visiting this magical place is the exceptional and friendly personnel (again…Derrick this time!!), the amazing setting amongst the Mt Tamapias Redwoods, the quiet calm zen that immediately hits when you enter the Inn and the comfy cozy rooms… especially on a chilly night when the wood burning fireplaces warm not only your room but your heart and soul. Thank you to all at the Mountain Home Inn. And especially to the lovely owner Susan Cunningham who we were so very lucky to meet and chat with this morning before we left. She is the reason this place is so very special. Again. Thank you. ❤️ Jen Frazee. San Diego CA:

Everything was perfect!! Stayed in the large room for 1 night after getting engaged!! Everyone at Mountain Home Inn was extremely friendly and helpful. The views are immaculate, hiking trails are a whole 100 yards away, we were able to hike into Muir Woods, watch the clouds roll in at sunrise. Finishing a day of hiking to a fire in the room was the cherry on top. Thank you all so much, you made our day even more special. We will be back for sure!!!! Highly, highly recommend!!!

Loved the patio restaurant. I always stop by for a drink before or after a hike. Stunning view especially around sunset. Food is ok. Have next stayed here though but heard the rooms are a bit dated though with great views.

We just had our daughter's wedding at the Mountain Home Inn. What a fantastic place. Erick went above and beyond in accommodating us and making sure everything ran smoothly. He helped us relax and made everyone feel comfortable and at home, pitching in to help with all the details. The setting is beautiful and the rooms and space perfect. A big thank you to the Inn and their staff especially Erick, Derrick, Susan and everyone else.

Mountain Home Inn offers truly stunning views down the east side of Mt. Tam—waking up to that scenery was a real treat. I also appreciated the helpful service: the receptionist assisted me in carrying my suitcase down the stairs (especially thoughtful, as I’m six months pregnant and there’s no elevator), the bartender was friendly, and the woman overseeing breakfast kindly welcomed me to help myself. That said, the inn itself is in serious need of an update. The rooms are small and dated—I barely had space to open my suitcase—and the window coverings don’t block out light, making early morning sun a given. There’s also no temperature control in the rooms, which is a problem given the direct eastern exposure and morning heat. The food was particularly disappointing. The menu doesn’t indicate that everything is pre-packaged, and most of it was quite unappetizing—except for the packaged quiche, which was surprisingly decent. At $280.90 for one night in their smallest room, this stay did not offer good value. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t return.

Hiking area
Cascade Falls Trailhead is located in Mill Valley's Cascade Park and offers one of Marin's easiest and most rewarding waterfall hikes. The short out-and-back or loop hike is suitable for the whole family, with the waterfall being particularly impressive after a rainstorm. The trail takes you through peaceful Redwoods and along Cascade Creek, making it a great hiking option for toddlers as well.
Short but easy and beautiful hike. Very peaceful and quiet, which made the scenery all the more beautiful. Summer is a good time to hike this way for some peace and quiet, but I'd like to see the differences here in the fall. Waterfall was good to see, and as a small bonus, the trail had a couple of small waterfalls. Parking is very limited near the trailhead, so I'd recommend parking near Old Mills Park and then starting the hike from there.

Short and easy hike! Perfect for beginners, kids, or people with walking limitations. It’s nice to seat on one of the benches and just enjoy nature and its sounds!
Christ S — Google review
Cascade Falls in Cascade Park, Mill Valley is different from Cascade Falls in Fairfax which are close together. The Cascade Falls in Cascade Park still have water unlike the Falls in Fairfax in July 2025. The road to get there is cascade drive would take us all the way to the park. There aren't many parking lots for spaces around the area. We're lucky to find one right in front of the Cascade trail. People parked along the Cascade Drive and walk up to the trail. It's a very short hike to the Falls, on the right hand side by the little bridge. The trail is really nice, you can walk up hills pass the Falls. In the rainy season, we can see the water running along the creek on the right hand side. From here we can take a drive to Muir Beach or Muir Woods National Monuments which is very beautiful but we need to book a parking permit in advanced. It's always booked unless we book a week in advance. This Summer we're trying to visit all the beautiful places in Northern California.

This is a beautiful seasonal waterfall just up the road from old town Mill Valley. The best time to visit is midweek during the spring. This is in a residential area so parking is limited. The trail is short and easy from the parking area to the falls.

Beautiful hike! Great for beginners, but it gets a little challenging in some areas
Sarah R — Google review
Easy walk in to the beautiful redwoods. Pretty little waterfall. Highly recommend
Susie F — Google review
Super easy to walk to and such wonderful clean and cold water. There is a couple places at the top of the falls to dip your toes and breathe in the smells of the redwood forest. No bathroom access, from the parking lot which holds at most 5 cars. The falls are only 5-10 minutes away up a very easy path, a site that can be fully explored and walked in just under an hour unless you want to picnic and soak your toes a bit. Overall a lovely visit but not really much in the way of longer hiking trails
Violet M — Google review
Lovely hike. Short but sweet. The waterfall is small but still flowing in summer. There are benches next to the waterfall. It’s best to go mid to late afternoon when the sun is peaking through the trees.

Public library
Nestled in a picturesque canyon on the slopes of Mount Tamalpais, Mill Valley Public Library is a gem among the charming towns near San Francisco. The area's rich history, from sawmills and dairy farms to its association with Beat poets and hippies, adds to its allure. Meanwhile, Mill Valley Beerworks offers a blend of old-world European charm and modern aesthetics, serving an impressive selection of craft beers and ales.
One of the most beautiful libraries I’ve ever visited! The northern like, tilted ceiling design, accented with stunning redwood beams, is absolutely striking. I also appreciate their thoughtfully curated furniture—so stylish it feels more like an open house than a library 😂 And don’t miss the Mill Valley Theatre exhibition downstairs—full of fascinating stories !

A delightful place to read, work or gaze out any window at serene forest views. My favorite library in California .. possibly the world. The architecture and setting are magnificent. The black walnut furniture and cabinetry were skillfully crafted by master carpenters .. surnamed Carpenter :)
Joanne L — Google review
Amazing library- one of my favorites! Beautiful views & interior, making it a great environment for study/work and reading. Lots of seating/table options, outlets, quick wifi, free computer usage (with great app selections), and free printing (to a limited amount). Set right in Old Mill Park so looking out the windows, you can see redwoods, the stage for outside plays, and the creek running by. Definitely recommend you step out onto the balcony to feel the full effects of being situated in the middle of the woods. Lots of fun free programming for all ages; examples include poetry night with free wine, intro to AI for adults, and social & emotional learning events for kids. Great reading selection with a constantly updating “new books” section. You can also rent fun things like bongo drums or telescopes to borrow for a week. There’s a free seed library too! If you like summer reading challenges, all ages get a challenge and a treat at this library! Lots of local pride for this awesome community hub!
Katia M — Google review
The library is nice and there are some nice people who work there and generally I don’t see much to complain about. But today—-maybe the entitlent got too much and some staff members ganged up on a patron who had parked her car outside of the library in the staff parking. And I get it, it is Sunday so libraries are closed and no amount of gaslighting can make someone believe differently, I bet she had taken advantage of the free parking to work on a project in private or something like that by the looks of the situation and the darkened windows of that beautiful dark tesla. Oh but instead of using this review to improve I bet they'll come after me because I was innocently walking my dog past when I witnessed these four women, goading this patron who was carefully trying to get out of the driveway so this quite large woman could move her car there—— It was a disgrace to see these women, come up banging on her car window and trying to rip off her window blinds—-the woman in the black with an orange scarf—-because their entitlement got overboard and they must have chosen jealousy to justify their abuse of this patron who was parked there —-ahhh, the virtue signaling idiotic behavior of those who claimed they work there.
Divine C — Google review
This library, located in a picturesque town, made me feel like I was reading in a cabin in the woods. I love how some of their collections are not developed based on a particular theory of arrangement. There is a truly stunning collection of books by women writers which go on to show that it is erroneous to typecast women’s writing as purely about relationships. With its scenic views, this place makes you feel at home.
Bartika D — Google review
Amazing library sits inside the red wood park with little creek surrounding it. Big tall windows bring the nature inside. There were many categories of book selections. So peaceful and cozy and inviting to read.

This is the most beautiful library. It’s small, charming and gorgeous. The outside is in a red wood forest with a playground and decks in the trees. The inside is beautiful symmetry with low warm lighting. It’s an act of art to read here. The selection is good for a small library and the seating is plentiful and comfortable. This library made us want to move here. Please visit them.

Sol Food is a popular Puerto Rican restaurant located in downtown Mill Valley. The lively atmosphere and colorful decor make it a bustling joint for traditional Puerto Rican eats. The area also offers trendy-casual restaurants, family-owned markets with organic produce, and nearby hiking trails like Muir Woods and Tennessee Valley Trail. Visitors can enjoy Puerto Rican favorites such as sweet fried yellow plantains and arroz con pollo at Sol Food after a day of exploring the charming surroundings of Mill Valley.
Incredible food - just a heads up, this location is primarily to go, although they have a counter you can sit and eat at. Food is authentic and FULL of flavor. Their homage mojo/chili sauce is incredible and worth the visit by itself. I always make sure to hit Sol Food anytime I’m anywhere close.

Tasty food, friendly service, clean atmosphere. We got the Cubano, the Steak and Onion Bistec, rotisserie chicken, side salad, cilantro lime mayo, fries, and the pico hot sauce. The food was all great. We mixed the pico hot sauce with the cilantro lime mayo for dipping the fries into and dunking our sandwiches. The service was friendly and fast. The staff seemed to be smiling and happy. The whole house seemed to run like a well oiled machine. Ladies in teh front were knokcing out in person and online orders while the guys in the back were cooking and cleaning up a storm. The decor was nice and the place was clean. No seating at this location, but there is seating at their other locations.

Service was spot on! Very friendly. Unfortunately my sandwich wasn’t what I was expecting. It was fine however I think it would have been a lot nicer if it wasn’t just deli meats. Effectively it was just a ham and cheese grilled toasties, I was hoping the meat would have been home cooked like the rice and beans.

I’ve been a longtime fan of Sol Food in San Rafael—the food there is consistently excellent. However, the Mill Valley location has been a major disappointment. In our last three visits, they’ve messed up our pickup order every single time. That’s not bad luck—that’s a pattern of carelessness. We drive over an hour to get to this location, and after yet another frustrating experience, we’ve likely made our last trip. If you want the real Sol Food experience, skip this spot and head to one of their other locations. To make matters worse, management resisted issuing a refund for an item they failed to include in our order. Hopefully, they’ll do the right thing and refund what we paid for but never received. When you’re charging $28 for a half chicken meal, the least you can do is double-check the order.

Ordered ahead for takeout, 20 minute wait. Good hot sauce on the side. Bistec sandwich and Paraíso sandwich both had only one slice of meat, not worth the price. Get the plate instead There is inside seating by the window

My daughter in law recommended we go to Sol when she found out we were vaccinating in Mill Valley. I read the reviews some were super positive and others very negative which made me want to go check it out myself. The food was delicious! We've been in town for a couple of days and eaten a few places and this was the best food at the most reasonable prices. We got more food than 2 of us could eat for around $45. The tostones with cheese and avocados are so yummy. The steak combo meal (half size) is what I ordered and it was more than I could eat. My husband ordered the salad and also had leftovers. I recommend buying a bottle of the salad dressing. It's lemon/garlic and amazing! The service was great. The atmosphere not so good. We did manage to get a seat at the little bar but this is a mostly to-go place. I definitely recommend you go to Sol and give it a try.

Coming from a Puerto Rican background and having tasted PR food from home, NY and PR…I can tell you the food is absolutely amazing! I was born and raised in NY and exposed to many Latin restaurants. I very much enjoyed the food and the perfect sized portions. Food was tasteful. Honestly, the restaurant provided the typical sauces, but no need to use them as the food was perfectly tender and seasoned, and SO FRESH! Good job, SOL!

Maybe the most important restaurant in Marin county. Go watch the ‘Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives’ episode that features Sol Food, gives great insight into the vibe and level of quality of this restaurant. Every single item on the menu absolutely hits. Prabh Indian Kitchen is a charming bistro housed in a converted home, offering a cozy dining experience with traditional Indian decor and a lively patio. The menu features an intriguing fusion of flavors, such as the mozzarella-topped quesadilla/pizza/naan cultural mashup cooked in the tandoor with fragrant spices like fenugreek and chaat masala.
Probably the best Indian food we had in a while: Aloo Tikki Chat, Rogan Josh, Tandoori chicken, Garlic Basil Naan. Large Portions. Beautiful decoration. Great service. Reasonable prices. Will come back.

We had a Very bad experience in this place. If you visit Muir Woods and plan to eat lunch and crave for Indian food, please *do not visit* this place. Ordered Veg Thali and Curries and Roti. Do not order the Gobi Manchuria. It literally tastes like potatoes. Dal was frozen instead of being warm. Waiter behavior was very rude. Paneer was thick and the paneer blocks tasted like heated rubber.

Food is okay. Could be better. Food is slightly on the less spicy side, so if you want spicy, make sure you ask. Service was good. The place is pretty big with plenty of space inside and some space outside as well. There are toilets on site.

Came here in a group on a hot day and the seating outside was taken so we sat inside which was very warm despite sitting next to the open window. Pakora and gobi manchurian were soggy with thick breading. Biriyani smelled spoiled and tasted a bit rancid. Chana saag was dry. Vindaloo and tikka masala were acidic. Roti and naan were dry.

Very tasty authentic Indian food. Loved the roti, kulcha, mixed veg and lamb. The portion size was perfect not too small or large. Will be visiting again soon.

A good Masala Dosa is hard to find in Marin and environs. I've always had to cross a bridge too far to get one. So when I found myself in Mill Valley and a search turned up Prabh I was excited. The Dosa came with a just heated sambar and a coconut curry straight out of the fridge. Neither of these succeeded in complementing the undercooked soggy Dosa. I should have perhaps heeded the alarm bells my intuition set off when upon arriving, I was greeted with a "yes can I help you?" - it should have been unnecessary to explain that I had come to the restaurant to eat lunch. Back to crossing bridges for Masala Dosa

Boo Koo is an Asian fusion eatery in Mill Valley that offers a mix of rustic-chic dishes inspired by the streets of Southeast Asia. Their menu includes a variety of flavorful options such as rice bowls, curry, pho, salads, and sandwiches. They also serve noodle salads, fresh rolls, and potstickers for takeout and delivery. Beer is available to-go as well. The staff at Boo Koo are friendly, helpful, and attentive according to customers' experiences.
I greatly enjoyed my visit to this cafe. The inside seating is basic but comfortable, and clean, with plenty of room between tables. The interior decor is simple but effective. The staff were friendly and the service was fast. But it's the food that I will be coming back for. I recommend the Brussel sprouts. They were delicious. The Spicy Shrimp Pho was flavorful, if not at all spicy. The portions are large - the Pho was shared between two people. Finally the Hot Vietnamese Coffee is well worth trying.

This super cute, fresh food eatery is directly across the street from my new office and I have been dying to try it. My waiter was friendly and there is a bar, football on the TV and appeared to be dog friendly. Will have to bring Luna next time. I ordered the tiger prawn roll & the BBQ Bao pork buns that are deconstructed into a taco. Both were excellent and fresh. Can't wait to go back and try the curry rice dish! They will definitely be seeing more of me..yum.

Starting with the atmosphere, the inside has a pub Cafe feel. It's small and nothing fancy. Good location with a huge tree out front providing plenty of shade and one outdoor seating table. More outdoor seating would be great. What brought me here was the vegetable curry. You could have meat or other protein added. My asian wife prepares curry often, I liked this dish very much! Thank you!

The restaurant atmosphere is superb. Staff are friendly, however I will not be coming here again. Sorry, the food is not as good. I've tried so many Asian fusion cuisines. The ingredient selection does not work. Tastes like American-Vietnamese war. I am not sure if the food designer has been to Asia or have been around studying the correct medley of spices, vegetables and meat together. I feel bad coz it's in a prime location. Please re-evaluate your menu. I wish you best, Boo Koo.
Laetans T — Google review
The waitstaff is lovely and the restaurant is beautiful but the kitchen staff needs to get it together. It took 30 mins to put up a to go order of 3 appetizers (pork buns, tuna bites, fries). My fries came without the aioli. The crackers under the tuna bites were stale while the tuna mixture itself was so salty. The meat of the pork buns was somehow dry and felt underportioned overall. It was disappointing.
Cara M — Google review
We walked by Boo Koo and the smell convinced us that it was going to be amazing. When we finally sat and ordered however we were more than a bit disappointed. The food wasn't bad but I was hoping for a more authentic experience. We got the wings and although they were ok they were not 'special' not did they taste of any Asian seasoning. It came with buffalo sauce and ranch.... The pho tasted like chicken noodle and the bahn mi steak was not worth the additional 6.00 ... I will say the Arny iced tea was good but again not very Vietnamese. In summary not really worth a repeat visit.

The restaurant also features a bar with a variety of simply prepared, easy-to-share dishes such as spicy rock cod lettuce cups and lamb riblets.

The burger and fries were perfectly delicious, and the grilled vegetable plate was amazing. The pesto pizza was super! Incredible crust. Their wine menu was thoughtful and we loved the reds we chose. All in all, Watershed feels like a cozy, local spot with so much care and intention put into practice. New favorite!

Verdict: Below Average Time: Monday evening for dinner Food: Tasted cheap. Several of the fries were not fully cooked. The pizza crust on my non-gluten free was burnt (not just singed, burnt), but the ladies at the table behind us had it worse. I would not have served them their pizzas as they were noticeably charred. My review does not take into account their food though, as it was not served to my table. It’s just a data point for others. The gluten free pizza IS NOT fully gluten free. The person I was eating with that ordered this got hives in their mouth. Luckily nothing serious, but it is obvious this place doesn’t take appropriate precautions and will not warn you beforehand. Service: Our server looked and acted like she hated her life, or working there at the very least. The hostess and bussman were great though. However, just to give you an overall idea of how flippant the overall service was, they didn’t even set up the table with napkins and utensils beforehand. Atmosphere: Really only major redeeming quality. This place is located in the Mill Valley Lumber Yard, which has a great rustic aesthetic. Great place to walk through, shop, and sit down for a bite to eat, so long as you can ignore the above factors.

This place is pretty popular with the locals and you may feel like you’re intruding on a private gathering, but the food is amazing and the service was great! My wife had the only burger on the menu and said it was the best she had ever had. I had one of the pizzas and it was amazing, it had these little mushrooms I’ve never seen on a pizza and they were delicious. We were sitting in the sun, and they don’t cool the place, so it was a little warm, but we really enjoyed the experience overall. Oh, our server was awesome!

We were on our way to Muir Woods National Monument and stopped here for lunch. We got right at the opening so there were plenty of seats available. The staff was very friendly and attentive. My group ordered different entrees and everyone was very happy with their meals. I had the salad with steak which was very tasty. The ribs were also amazing and were "fall of the bone" tender. Try to come here early or make reservations because this place gets busy during the weekend.

Nestled in the picturesque town of Mill Valley, just a short drive from San Francisco, the historic Mill Valley Lumber Yard has been revitalized into a vibrant mixed-use space. The 126-year-old lumber yard now houses an array of artsy shops including the all-American Makers Market, chic Guideboat Co., and Bloomingayle's florist. Visitors can also indulge in gluten-free treats at Flour Craft bakery while perusing the unique offerings.
Quaint lifestyle shopping center. Limited parking. Well-maintained and clean restrooms. Several restaurants and shops to explore. We visited specifically for one store in the center and roamed around about. It's a very safe and quiet area, nicely maintained and well landscaped. More a local hang-out than not. If I. The area, it's worth a stop over, I would not drive 30 minutes out of the way for it unless there is something specific you are looking for here

Super charming place! Great spot for a date or just hanging with friends. There's places to grab meals, drinks, desserts, several local shops, and live music (@danlupomusic was playing when I was there and was fantastic). Will be coming back soon!

Very cute and pretty to look at, but this "cuteness" is reflected in the prices at the shops. Rent here must be VERY HIGH!! Great place to visit for a walk-around, and windows shop, or to buy a special gift for someone you like a LOT!

Located on the south side of Mill Valley, The Junction Beer Garden is a sprawling outdoor venue that was once a junkyard but has been transformed into a vibrant beer garden and music space with stunning views of Mt Tam. With 30 taps featuring local Northern California breweries and a selection of cans, it offers the largest tap selection in Marin County. The outdoor seating area is particularly impressive, complete with firepits, patio heaters, and an inviting ambiance under the starry skies.
We got there and it was busy outside, but not too busy inside. When we ordered drinks we got our drinks literally in a minute! We were impressed. Obviously the food took awhile because of all of the people outside, but the wait was worth it. The pizza was so gooooood. As well as the meatballs. Beer is never a bad idea! We had a sour, and a few ciders. Vibe is cute! Love that they had outdoor seating too.

Great atmosphere welcoming to families with kids and dogs in particular. Lots of seating and ample parking behind the restaurant. Bar and restaurant are separate entities but orders go through the same QR code at the table. Food and drinks came out incredibly fast for how busy it was when we were there. The pizza is thon crust with a fired crust. Some of the flavor combos weren't for me but it was still tasty. Great selection of local beers on tap. Kale Cesar salad was yummy.

Pizza and ice cream - great! Bar area is very loud as the TV volume is up, but lively and friendly atmosphere However: Management is NOT professional at all, pretty rude and very curt. I worked in hospitality for over 15 years, and I’d never would have considered the behavior or say the things to customers that they do here. Honestly it’s the second time I’ve had a negative experience with management at The Junction. Not worth going back, there are other really good pizza restaurants in Marin with less attitude. (Lived in Mill Valley and Larkspur for 10 years, there’s a lot of pizza here!) Wait staff are very nice though :)
Nicole C — Google review
Had a great time and the staff are the bomb. The pizza is excellent and the place is clean and comfortable.
Zac C — Google review
We ordered a pizza and some beer and everything seemed great - until the pizza came and we noticed it had a strange fishy taste to it. Turn out that there were anchovies of it that we did not expect. We tried to tell the reps up front about this, but essentially they're response was: "deal with it". No redo of the pizza, no comped beer if that wasn't possible, just "oh whoops, that really sucks".. so not sure what to make of this place. Otherwise it seemed great and we really wanted to like it, but I can't get over a restaurant that just makes you deal with mistakes in orders. (And anchovies were the worst thing possible! They blend in, so are hard to remove and have a strong odor/flavor - like a landmine pizza!)

Flour Craft Bakery, established in 2013, is a renowned gluten-free bakery in San Anselmo. Their delectable range includes breads, pastries, cakes, and cookies made from whole grains like brown rice and millet flours. The use of naturally gluten-free nut and seed meals ensures that the taste and texture remain uncompromised. Visitors can also explore the adjacent brick-and-mortar shop featuring handcrafted goods from over 100 local makers.
had the pleasure of trying the house drip coffee, along with the Tahini Everything Cookie and the Sourdough Chocolate Chip Salted Cookie. The coffee was absolutely delicious, smooth and rich, the perfect companion to their incredible baked goods. The Tahini Everything Cookie is an absolute must-try, offering a unique blend of flavors that’s both savory and sweet. I can’t wait to visit again and explore more of their menu!

Love the location. This is a terrific place to hang out and have a latte. The lattes were great. The food however was nothing exceptional and on the small side. I’d definitely return but only for the drinks. There was no WiFi so in order to work, we needed to use our own hot spot. There were two public restrooms that were somewhat clean.
A R — Google review
There are gluten free restaurants where you leave and say “that was really good for gluten free!” Then there are gluten free restaurants where you leave in utter disbelief that the bread and pastries are really gluten free. Flour Craft is one of those. The focaccia is truly phenomenal. As someone who dearly misses bread in her life, the chicken pesto sandwich made my heart sing. The vegan chocolate oatmeal cookies were also very tasty — not too sweet, and great warmed up! Really looking forward to working my way through this menu 🤩

The gluten-free options are absolutely delectable. You just can’t find cinnamon rolls like these anywhere else 😫. And don’t even get me started on the pistachio pound cake and the lemon lavender scone—heavenly! Even though it’s a drive from the East Bay, coming here feels like a little getaway.

This might be a Marin county thing but I find them quite overpriced. I checked out the menu and found that even simple breakfast items would be turned into fancy stuff that go $10 and upward. I decided to have breakfast elsewhere and had a savory scone instead. It tastes ok but was tiny. On the positive side, the outdoor dining area looks amazing. Spacious with a fantastic vibe of this historical site .

In addition to retail offerings, the shop also features a coffee shop and an indoor skate ramp, making it a hub for community activities and lessons. Customers praise the staff for their exceptional service and knowledge, particularly when it comes to surfboards. The shop's welcoming atmosphere and attentive employees make shopping there easy and enjoyable.
One of the best-curated shops i've ever been in. You won't just find the traditional surf and skate brands you'd see at the mall - they carry a surprising number of indie brands as well - and the staff is nice and knowledgeable. A hidden gem for sure.

We just got two boards and wetsuits and other gear from proof lab. Noah helped us and we talked to him about boards today and yesterday. He was really really helpful and helped us find the right boards for us. He wasn’t pushy and he honestly wanted what was best for us. Proof lab also always has sick clothes and it one of my favorite spots in Marin.

I’ve been surfing in Marin for over 30 years, and this place is the ultimate surf shop. Whether I’m looking for a new board, wetsuit, or just some gear, their selection is unbeatable. The staff is always welcoming, helpful, and knows their stuff. Prices are super fair, and the shop is easy to get to with plenty of parking. Can’t recommend it enough!
Dror A — Google review
I mean, common.. old school establishment, great vibe, good deals, skate park in the back, surf camps. How can it get better? Edit. Just went from 5 stars to one. Why? Because the reason I always wanted to support this place is because it was locally owned and part of the foundation for this community. Now maybe I got the math wrong. But I would think that between the surf and skate shop, the restaurant, the high-end outdoor attire shop, and renting to Equator coffee, that this family should earn enough. The fact that they took on the mentality that they could earn more and so they should led to them dismantling the skate part inside. Now I know they donated to the other outer skate parks. That’s not the point. It’s the choice of greed over genuine community that has made me lose all faith in this place. I can buy online cheaper so that’s my plan now moving forward…
H H — Google review
Really well run surf shop with great people. Board selection is quite good and staff is very knowledgable and helpful. They know how to serve a very wide range of surfers well from the best to beginners. Probably the best shop I've ever been to actually.
Paul N — Google review
Just a long overdue thank you to Proof Lab in general for being such an awesome community member, and the staff in particular. We buy a lot of stuff here and our two kids have been involved with skate and surf camps they sponsor over the years. But today, Cody in particular really came through with a customer service issue that went above and beyond. I had bought a new soft-top board for my son for a surf trip to Panama, the board delaminated terribly after a day of use. Super bummed. Went into the shop to see about a warranty and the manufacturer was being difficult in not wanting to cover or replace the board, which surprised me and everyone at Proof Lab since this was a very well known and top surfboard manufacturer. Cody was embarrassed as to the manufacturers handling of this and said "let me just give you a replacement, we will eat the costs, I want you to be happy". It made me super uneasy as I didn't want this to fall on proof lab as it was not their doing. But Cody insisted, and as karma works, as I was walking out with the replacement board, the manufacturer called back to tell Cody they would be sending the shop a replacement board. Seems even the manufacturers know that Proof Lab is a super high integrity operation and they wanted to keep them happy too. They know how to treat their customers and community. Thank You Proof Lab!

I recently visited this store for the first time and it was a fantastic experience. The clothes, accessories and apothecary are beautifully curated and the store has a wonderful peaceful vibe. I was caught off guard as there are so many nice boutiques in Marin and this one provided a unique experience - comfortable and full of light. I met Addy there who helped me select an amazing versatile piece to add to my wardrobe. She is a true gem for the store and the brand - authentic, welcoming and genuinely personable. Love this store. This fairy-tale-like restaurant in Mill Valley truly surprised us with how delicious the food was. Food was REALLY good, I got the buttermilk pancakes with chicken apple sausage and Sunnyside eggs and my husband got the bulgogi Benny, everything was cooked to perfection super delicious can’t wait to come here again!

Simply outstanding. The Moco Loco was a piece of art to be adored and its flavor bountiful. Our server Teo was equally fantastic. Cheers!

We came for brunch after church, right when they opened at 8:30. It was already busy. The food was excellent. I can't recommend the croissant waffle enough. The prices are hit-or-miss for portion and expectations. One meal (breakfast tacos) seemed like a great value but the chicken-and-waffles seemed a bit pricey for portion size. I'm generally unconcerned with portion size, but I hope there is something amazing that outweighs feeling like I may need a snack after just eating breakfast.

Marin Theatre Company is a renowned professional theater group that stages six shows each season, all from contemporary playwrights. The company's current production, 'The Invisible Hand' by Ayad Akhtar, challenges Western values with its controversial thriller plot. Located at 397 Miller Ave., the theater offers evening performances starting at 7:30 pm, allowing for pre or post-show dining options. Additionally, the venue is surrounded by cultural spots of historical significance and other downtown attractions within close proximity.
We went to Marin Theatre for the first time this past weekend. It was an excellent performance. The theatre is intimate, seats were comfortable. We enjoyed wine and gf cookies that was a plus. Definitely recommend.

The actors did their best to convey the message of the play but the message was not clear except that the couple were incompatible. MTC must select better plays.
Kaz M — Google review
A brilliant and captivating look at so many issues. The relationship between professor and student was not what we expected - it was much richer and more complex. We loved that there was so much effort put into how a restive piece of writing evolves.

Nice, intimate venue putting out consistently great shows. I've been attending a lot of theater over the past couple of years, but no other venue in the Bay Area makes me as excited as the Marin Theatre Company (though Berkeley Rep comes close). I discovered MTC just this season because of the Brother/Sister trilogy put on in partnership with ACT & the Magic. MTC started the trilogy with "In the Red and Brown Water," which was one of the most emotional and impactful plays I've seen in ages. They showed it was not a fluke with their equally powerful follow-up "9 Circles." I think it's too late to get a subscription this year, but I'm definitely going to bite the bullet next year. As far as seating goes, you really can't get a bad seat in either Theater. The Boyer is more traditional, and the Lieberman's partial thrust is more edgy and interesting. Parking is free & plentiful in the lot next door. Also, they generally have 2pm performances on Saturday and Sunday, which I find to be incredibly convenient because I can usually get to and from the theater without hitting much traffic on the Golden Gate.

I`m really glad that Mill Valley has a playhouse. They do a great job with the space they have, and the plays they elect to perform have always been very enjoyable. I`m not a big theater goer and usually just attend with friends, but I've had nothing but good experiences there!
Gabriel D — Google review
I haven't seen anything that I didn't enjoy here- MTC productions make you think. They tend to get great actors and interesting plays. The theatre itself is quite nice. Marin is lucky to have it!
Joanell S — Google review
This is the worst play I have ever been to in my 65 years. I guess their are serious issues when you walk to the doors and they are protesters and now I see for good reason. I guess when you enter the play and the cover of the program is torn off by the Theater Company Staff, I guess that sets the stage for failure. Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemming is a historical event with very serious racial implications. Marin Theater Company treated the event with such disrespect and disregard not fit to be called a professional play. My wife and I are African Americans and we were terribly insulted especially by using the N word so liberally. Refunds are neccessary, this is not befitting of a professional experience. I will call for a refund or you can respond to me via this message. if I do not get the refund this week, I will contact the major news outlets and write a review that will not be flattering. Zero stars. I will not support a theater company that depicts child rape as consensual sex. Their play, Thomas and Sally, depicts the relationship between Thomas Jefferson and his child slave as romantic. This whitewashed version of history is unnacceptable. To produce this play, in 2017, is unnaceptable.

Gravity Tavern in Mill Valley is a popular spot among locals for its unique and sophisticated cuisine. Named after the Mt. Tam gravity car, this eatery offers a diverse menu with options ranging from traditional brunch dishes like eggs Benedict to more unconventional choices such as champagne and caviar French omelets and Dutch baby pancakes.
From the outside this place looks like it might be a dive bar. But when you walk in, the atmosphere is very classy. Beautiful bar and solid furniture. Great for all occasions, including dates, family dinners, hanging out with friends or even just your dogs! Yes they have an outdoor patio that is dog friendly. The staff are also very friendly. When I came back they remembered me and what I ordered the previous time. They also brought my dogs water. So yeah, it I could give more than five stars, I would. Highly recommend!

I have to say, was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food on the happy hour menu. The portobello and zucchini fries were really very very good, and both the chicken slider and the fish slider were tasty a little morsels. Very friendly weight staff. Drinks were solid. All in all I think it’s a shame that they’re closing a little later this month.
Porschephilia — Google review
One of the most enjoyable dinners of our vacation, we really liked the comfortable seating near the deck, and that the music was playing at low enough level my wife and I could carry on conversation. Service was great, the popovers were delicious, and our meals were both excellent. My burger was cooked perfectly, and super delish!
ShoddyHog — Google review
I really enjoyed the food. It has things adults and children can go for something a little nicer. I have been happy with everything I’ve ordered minus the popovers. But that is probably a personal preference vs a criticism of the popovers. I would recommend the calamari, burger, prime rib dinner, fish (can’t remember which exactly b cause it was a few visits ago). And the drinks!! I had a spicy margarita that I loved.

Super great happy hour. Good for after hike. 6 oysters for $12. Onion soup is one of the best. Sliders need 30% less bun. Decent staff and Mill Valley/semi-professional vibe.

Extremely disappointed, two families together with our own kids. Quality of food very poor. The wine and the dessert were good. Great disproportion between quality and price.

The Gravity Tavern was a bit of a mixed bag, but overall I had to give it four stars. Their cocktails and hors d'oeuvres were fabulous. Our waiter offered a suggestion of a wine that fit our dish perfectly. The down sides? The food was not hot when it arrived at the table. The fried chicken just looked like a mess.

Located in Tam Junction, Hook Fish Co. at Proof Lab Beer Garden is a trendy skateboard and surf shop that also offers lessons and community activities. The beer garden, run by Proof Lab, features a pescatarian menu with dishes showcasing the daily catch and seasonal crab sandwiches. The blackened fish sandwich is a popular choice, offering a spicy kick balanced by slaw and tartar sauce.
I would come back just for the atmosphere. The food is good, but the menu is a little limited. It is also quiet crowded. You order your drinks at the bar (cokes, etc.) and order the food at another table. They bring it to you. We did not understand this set-up and sat for a little while until a passing waiter told us how it worked. The food was good. My son liked his sushi taco and I enjoyed the fish sandwich.

Was busy at time we came. Ordered the Fish & Chips. Fish was melt in your mouth buttery goodness. The chips were crispy and yummy. Starter sauce had a garlic kick that was unexpected, which made it that much more tasty. Will certainly come again when in the area.

Perfect atmosphere and really good food and service. I had fish and chips as well as crabcakes on salad. I enjoyed everything except for the french fries, which were almost inedible because of how salty they were. My feedback to the restaurant is that patrons can always add more salt, so please, please go much easier on the salt and let people add more as needed. Otherwise, it was a pretty great experience and we will definitely be back!

food was good but the rice needs work. can't seem to find any restaurants that isn't Asian theme that knows how to make good white rice. besides the rice, the food was really good. my favorite has to be the grilled fish of the day. it is dog friendly. kid friendly. the service is more like a fast food service. you order and pay at the cashier area. you get your own water at the water area but they do serve other drinks. it was a new experience and our dog got to go inside with us

Hook fish has cultivated an atmosphere worthy of the finest ottoman janissary. The royal guard of Mehmet the Second would be pleased at such a burrito. A lot of people don’t realize that the fish burrito was invented by the ancient Phoenicians. My ex wife traced her roots back to the Phoenicians, but she was about as flaky as the fish of the day, and twice as slippery. They say there are plenty of fish in the sea, but I still miss you Janice.

Nestled in the charming downtown Mill Valley, 'Poet and the Bench' is a delightful curated gallery and store located on La Paseo Lane. This hidden gem showcases an impressive collection of artist-made jewelry, ceramics, and unique home decor items that stand out from typical offerings. The passionate couple behind this boutique not only curates exceptional pieces but also creates their own artful designs, making it a must-visit for anyone seeking distinctive gifts.
I stopped by this adorable shop to look at their coats. I was blown away at their selection of art, jewelry, and apparel. But the best part of this little shop is the customer service. Wow! I came in with my 5 year old and they not only made us feel welcome, they gave her activities to do. Such a lovely warm place. Will be back for sure!

4/9/24 This is a delightful shop operated by Bonnie and resident jeweler, Jeffrey. I appreciate Jeffrey's jewelry designs for men and women and that there are many pieces and price points to choose from. My favorite go to was Gallery of Jewels on 24th Street but it closed a year or two ago. I am glad to have a new, wonderful place to find unique jewelry (and more) created by local artists!

What a great find! Jeff and Bonnie, the owners of this quaint shop ~ are lovely people. Their shop is full of a variety of different artist creations. Perfect place to pick up gifts and support a fast growing small business in downtown Mill Valley. The jewelry is unique and quality-made. I bought a beautiful pair of earrings I adore ~created by Danielle Weldmond. I also purchased a natural cologne that my husband loves. ***jewelry, candles, scarves, wall art, pottery, the list goes on....*** Wonderful place to drop in ~ you may just find the perfect gift for your Valentine!

Love at first sight! Ever since Jeff and Bonnie opened Poet and the Bench I've been smitten with everything they so carefully curate at their beautiful store. They've continued to expand the artists they showcase and always include unique designs in all price ranges. I'll go in to look for a gift and then see something I can't live without. My boyfriend gave me one of Jeff's pieces and I get compliments on it every time I wear it - which is almost every day. And now with their custom candles, tea and bath soaps, it's quite irresistible!
Marissa W — Google review
Love this place! Husband and I literally stumbled across this gem- can't help but keep going back! Originally tried on a tile necklace with unique fastenings to chain, a masculine leather bracelet for hubby, and now he went back and found another unique necklace and bracelet as a gift. It's truly difficult to find unique gifts, as jewelry stores typically have the same stuff. This is jewelry and other gifts, from an exquisite couple who is passionate about supporting local businesses. They're lovely. PLUS when you make a purchase, you get the cutest simple wrapping and an air plant! The air plant is a gift itself, with while rocks and different shapes in cement. So simple, so cool. People keep asking where we get the plants and jewelry! Go support your local creatives and come home with a piece that you'll love and show off.

A magical shop to match the magical Mill Valley. I came across this shop in the rain and enjoyed browsing all the carefully curated pieces from local artists and the surrounding area. Breathtaking views! The hike to the peak takes your breath away for sure. Hiked with 2 kiddos and they were able to do it. Starts with a paved trail then gets rocky. It gets hot up at the peak so being sunscreen and water. Drive is windy and long but worth it.

I didn't make it to the pictured overlook, but would love to on another visit with favorable weather. I did enjoy several hours around the amazing wooded trails around the nearby lakes formed by the Mt Tam watershed. Many various serene spots, waterfalls, streams, pools and paths of various difficulties. Chaplain Brian Plaugher was my cherished friend, companion and guide as we reflected back over 40 years of abundant life, suffering, recovery and mystical symbols we shared without chemicals clouding the Mt top experience. Highly recommended!!!

Such a beautiful hike. There was over cast so was not able to embrace the views but definitely enjoyed the overcast.
Prissella R — Google review
The thing about Mount Tamalpais is this: it doesn’t just sit there like some idle chunk of earth waiting for the casual stroller with a granola bar and a Fitbit. No, this beast leans into you, tilts the whole world on its side, and demands that you climb it with sweat in your eyes and dogs tugging at the leash like they’ve got an appointment in heaven. The trail coils upward in long, green switchbacks—redwood shadows, damp earth, the smell of eucalyptus like an old hippie’s perfume clinging to the wind. The air sharpens as you climb, teeth in your lungs, and then—suddenly—you’re up and above it all. The madness of the Bay Area drowned beneath a rolling sea of clouds, like some god spilled shaving cream across the Pacific. And there it is: San Francisco, a shining hallucination on the horizon, floating like Atlantis in the haze. The dogs sit there panting like deranged prophets, grinning at the panorama, while you try to hold it all in—this sense that you’ve slipped out of the normal, filthy grind of the world and stumbled onto a higher frequency. Mount Tam doesn’t give you a view. It delivers a sermon. It tells you, in no uncertain terms, that the city is small, the ocean is vast, and life—when you get high enough above the static—is unbearably, terrifyingly beautiful. A five-star hike, if your legs can take it. Bring water. Bring dogs. And bring a brain prepared to be rewired by altitude and the raw, unfiltered spectacle of California.

This hotel is situated in one of the most beautiful areas for such a reasonably priced hotel. When we drove up, I could not believe how gorgeous the surrounding area was. We had to wait a long time for our room to be ready, but it was within reason given we arrived so early. We waited in our car for quite a while as we were all so very tired from a very early flight. Finally our room was available around sometime after 2 PM, which is fair. Our beds were extremely comfortable and we all slept amazingly well. Overall, this was a fantastic experience. We could have stayed longer, but had to venture on further north to go hiking in the redwoods. Otherwise, this was a very relaxing and enjoyable stay and could have easily stayed longer.

This is a lovely reasonably priced little hotel with excellent service and in a beautiful location. I'm surprised by the low reviews because my room was spotless, didn't smell like any sort of chemicals, and seemed like it's been recently renovated. They are currently renovating the restaurant. While I have a feeling it can get loud in there during the busy months, it was fairly quiet while we were the. The staff was always friendly and helpful when we needed something. We brought our dogs, and all we had to do was step out of our room and there was a large grassy area for them to do their business. They're also right on wetlands, and there are paved walkways along the water. Its just a few minutes walk into town. On top of all of this, the hotel is fully green. They are 100% solar powered and actually generate extra power back into the grid. They have recycling bins everywhere, and they try to produce as little waste as possible. I highly recommend this place. Oh wait. I forgot to mention the beds. They are extremely comfortable! I used to travel for a living and have stayed in mostly 4 and 5 star hotels all over the world. This little budget hotel made me feel like I was in one.

Enrique At the front desk was phenomenal. As a service worker myself I know how hard it can be to keep a positive attitude and good vibe. Ive never felt so welcome at a hotel even the ones that cost an arm and a leg. I highly recommend this spot for your SF or Muir Woods vacation.

For a 3-star hotel, this is as good as it gets. The hotel is nice. Breakfast is actually pretty good (within normal expectations for a normal american hotel chain). There are a few bikes to borrow. The pool area is nice. The hot tub works. And this is the hotel in which Jimmy Buffet wrote Come Monday over labor day weekend in 1973. So there you go-- it is historic too.

This hotel is a bit old and bathroom is small. The thing I like about Holiday inn they have a free breakfast. And has a beautiful trail you can go for a walk in the morning. Theres a restaurant next door and the food is pricey but good..The parking gets packed in the afternoon and its hard to get out on the street because traffic get pretty bad especially in the afternoon. Hi, Ive tried to find out about a courtesy wedding block being held here numerous times over the last couple weeks. Each time I've reached out to the hotel frontdesk and management, Ive been meet with unprofessionalism. I've been told that this hotel doesn't do courtesy blocks, the attendant doesn't have access to that information, and the manager asking me to call back later, never to answer again. I've sent an email detailing the stay, provided return contact information, and requested a member of management to return my request. All to no avail. I'm saddened by this experience. We were looking forward to staying here as this is the closest hotel to our destination with the best reviews. If someone with corporate would reach out to us to discuss our experience, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and consideration.

The hotel ensures cleanliness by following local authority guidelines for laundry and tableware sanitation. Guests have praised the attentive staff who go above and beyond to address any concerns promptly.
Convenient location, several nice restaurants within walking distance and a pathway/sidewalks lead to a nice park on the bay. There is some noise from the freeway but, for once, somebody did some actual planning and the way the building is designed with the corridor and deadspace facing the freeway almost eliminates the noise. The patio and upper deck are great places to enjoy the wine and cookie hours. The front desk staff were all friendly and courteous. The rooms were quite nice and comfortable.

I will say...this was such a unique find. My boyfriend booked this on a whim and we had no expectation of what it should be. The hotel is a little dated but not dated. The walk way to the room with the glass feels a little enclosed but overall the rooms were nice and clean. The hotel is right by the freeway so you can hear cars driving by if you have the balcony open. The view was absolutely amazing. It being along a bike trail was so much fun and nice for an evening sunset walk. My favorite surprise was the happy hour and cookies. We did not get breakfast but did grab snacks to go before we checked out. 10/10 would recommend this hotel to people and I would definitely come back again. I believe they also had bikes for guests to use.

This hotel offers convenience and comfort. It's become my go-to hotel when visiting Marin. The staff is warm and welcoming. The rooms are clean. I enjoy the wine reception and snacks. What a great hotel. We booked after encountering a problem at another hotel. The customer service of the overnight staff was so fantastic, that I changed our plans to stay just under a week at Acqua. Breakfast is great. We haven’t had a chance to sample the evening reception due to prior commitments but it sounds compelling. My only “even better if” would be if the junior fire suit could have a sliding door between the sitting room and the bedroom.

Nestled in the heart of Mill Valley, California, the Mill Valley Inn offers a charming and upscale boutique hotel experience. Surrounded by redwood trees at the foot of Mount Tamalpais, this 25-room inn provides a serene retreat with understated European charm. Guests can enjoy complimentary continental breakfast, evening wine receptions, and access to hybrid bikes for exploring the area. The hotel's convenient location allows easy access to downtown attractions and Old Mill Park.
I am presently staying at the Inn. I have enjoyed it so much that I have extended my stay. If you are visiting Mill Valley this is the only hotel that makes sense. One block to the redwoods to the left and one block to the center of town to the right. The rooms are beautiful and quiet, the breakfasts and wine and cheese excellent and the staff is charming and helpful. Parking under the building and being met with redwood trees at the parking lot edge is breathtaking. The general manager Phil is lovely and fun to interact with. My family came to visit and he was so sweet and let them park under the building. Coming back in a few months and I truly look forward to it.

Lovely little inn in a charming area! Our room was spacious, clean, and relatively quiet. The continental breakfast was comprehensive and had some hot items. We needed a pack n play, so they noted it in our chart and had it ready to go in our room. We loved the outdoor area in the back too.

We cannot say enough wonderful things about our experience at Mill Valley Inn. We booked our stay over the phone and spoke with Gina, who was so kind and thoughtful throughout the process. We told her we were getting married on our trip to Marin County and upon arriving to our room, there was champagne and treats with a handwritten note from the staff. A wonderful small touch that made us feel so welcome. The room itself was beautiful and incredibly clean. We loved having a balcony to sit outside and watch the downtown area. The bed was very comfortable and we loved the local soaps and bath salts, etc. that were provided. There were so many thoughtful touches throughout our stay that made this hotel an unforgettable experience. The complimentary wine tasting with cheese & crackers was so lovely every night, and we loved spending as much time as we wanted relaxing on the patio enjoying our wine. Breakfast and coffee each morning was absolutely excellent and we looked forward to it every morning. We truly appreciated all of the staff being so helpful and thoughtful throughout our stay and our only regret was leaving! Thank you Mill Valley Inn for making our stay so special!

5/5 for sure. Staff was extremly friendly and it is very conveniently located. Woke up the next morning and was just a short drive to Muir Woods. Food was complimentary and fantastic and the area is really nice. Only ding was the room smelt a little funny but we got used to it and it's isn't bad enough to ding it a star. If I ever visit the San Francisco area again, this is the only place my wife and I will consider staying at.

Second time staying here and will keep coming back. Service is great and rooms are very comfortable. I like the small town feel and that it’s a boutique hotel, not a big chain. Bed is comfortable, bathroom has both a bathtub and separate shower. All reservations come with complimentary breakfast and happy hour wine and cheese! Highly recommend for anyone looking to stay near SF but not smack in the city.
Devi B — Google review
Our stay couldn’t have been better. I wish I could remember the front desk staff member’s name, but we had just hiked Muir Woods and were so exhausted that it slipped my mind. She was so pleasant and helpful. She provided us information on all the amenities the Inn provided along with a wide variety of restaurant recommendations. The location is super convenient with free parking and is in walking distance to everything from shops, restaurants, groceries, and even a theatre. They also have bicycles available upon request. We stayed in Cottage 1 which did not disappoint. It was spacious, airy, and perfect for relaxation. The only negative we experienced was the sound of suitcase wheels against the wooden pathway from fellow guests that were going to or from their rooms. It was quite a noise but very temporary. Overall, Mill Valley Inn is perfect for couples, solo travelers, or anyone seeking a peaceful and luxurious getaway in the heart of Mill Valley.

The staff at the Mill Valley Inn, especially Stella and Phil, were incredibly helpful and professional. I needed to arrange a last-minute reservation, and Stella was kind enough to provisionally hold their last available room for Monday, June 9th, while I finalized the details. Although my plans changed and I no longer needed the room, Phil's follow-up was courteous and understanding. Their willingness to work with me and their excellent communication were truly impressive. Based on this outstanding level of customer service, I would highly recommend the Mill Valley Inn.

If you're heading to Marin County, Mill Valley Inn is the place to stay. The location is perfect, beautiful redwoods surround you and it is just steps from great restaurants, shops, cafés, and trails. Breakfast is delicious, with really thoughtful service, and in the evenings, the wine and cheese happy hour is such a nice touch. I had a great time here and totally recommend it! :)

Mount Tamalpais State Park is a well-maintained park with hiking and biking trails that offer breathtaking views from the peak, which rises prominently from sea level. The park is also home to beautiful redwood groves. Visitors can enjoy exploring the park with the help of good maps and directions. It's an ideal spot for outdoor enthusiasts looking for challenging hikes or leisurely bike rides.
If you haven’t watched the sun set from Mount Tam, you’re seriously missing out. This place doesn’t just give you views—it gives you drama. I came up right before golden hour, and what I saw felt like something out of a dream. Rolling fog creeping over the hills like slow ocean waves, while the sky lit up in layers of orange, lavender, and deep blue. You get these surreal moments where it feels like the forest is floating in the clouds. The winding roads glowing in the dusk make the whole drive worth it. I’ve lived in the Bay Area for years and nothing really prepares you for how cinematic this place feels at sunset—especially when that fog layer hits just right. If you’re into photography, bring your gear. If you just want peace and perspective, bring a blanket and sit back. Either way, Mount Tam is magic. Total 10/10.

Went for a circular hike starting pantoll campground. Very nice area with a wide variety of scenery. Trails are well maintained, maybe a bit more littering than anticipated, but maybe unavoidable given the amount of traffic. Much busier than expected, recommend arriving early to ensure a parking spot.

It’s wonderful, I live in Castro Valley. it was a bit far but it’s worth it, is not that hard to get on the top of the hill. We went to see the sunset but you could also see the moon. 🌕

Mount Tamalpais is truly a dream backdrop for photos — golden light, sweeping mountain views, and that signature coastal haze that makes everything feel cinematic. Every direction looks like a painting, and it’s one of my favorite spots to capture couples who love adventure and breathtaking scenery.

Wow, it's like I walked into a rainforest in Vancouver. Awesome hike, another great example of the diversity around the area. Interesting features, rivers, large trees, ocean views, city views, so much to offer with only the 6km I hiked! And so many mushrooms.
Hypo — Google review
Upon exploring where to do a family of 6 hike in the bay area, I stumbled on Mount Tamalpais on Google. I read the previous reviews and absolutely agreed with those that said the drive to the parking lot was an adventure. Long winding roads and views along the way. It was great! I'd like to add that if you have a family of 6 like mine with 4 kids in ages ranging from 3-11 yrs old it's very doable. It was a good challenging hike for our family and took us approximately 22 mins to reach the peak lookout spot from the parking lot. Apart from the great view it was also a good workout and a great way to exert kids energy so they can get a good nights rest afterwards. I highly recommend doing this hike with your family.

Great experience walking in this state park. Although no internet connection. Could be problematic if you didn’t bring the bar code for parking reservation loaded. There are four bridges for for short hikes in a loop. The bigger trails start after the fourth bridge.

The trail offers a mild and dusty walk suitable for families, with the endpoint featuring coves and areas for relaxation on the dark sand beach. Visitors can enjoy walking barefoot on the unique gravelly sand while taking in therapeutic ocean views.
One of the best hikes in bay area. It offers ocean view, mountain view, and city view. There are many trails. I did 5.7 miles loop in 2.5 hours. I took Tennessee valley trail to paradise cove, city view and back to parking lot. First 0.8 mile is paved and then there is a steep uphill and downhill. Wear sturdy shoes.
Anu C — Google review
Did a sunrise hike, we arrived pretty early and found parking with ease. The hike itself from parking to beach is super easy and beginner friendly but if you’d like a challenge there are great options here as well. This is our top favorite area to hike we have come many times you can spend a few hours here or a whole day just depends which trail you choose.
Irka — Google review
Great trail that is mostly paved. Its about 1.8mi to Tennessee Cove from the parking lot. There's a vault toilet at the parking lot and about halfway down the trail. Trails to GGNRA, the headlands, and Muir Beach intersect with the Tenneese Valley Trail. Theres a seasonal lower trail that is single track, unsaved, but well maintained. It borders the small pond and we saw lots of animal tracks and scat along the way.
Stacey M — Google review
Mostly flat trail if you’re just heading to the Tennessee Valley Beach and back. But if you’re able to I would recommend also climbing up to the overlook from the beach. The trail to the beach branches in the middle to main trail and lower Tennessee Valley Trail. The latter is limited to hikers so if you want to avoid what the horses has left behind it might be best to follow the signs of lower trail.
Yuta H — Google review
Its a nice walk to the ocean bring water and a wind breaker for you coldies. Very family friendly. Like everywhere get there early for parking purposes. Be safe yall
Martin B — Google review
A must! Super easy trail that leads straight to the beach. Make sure to stick to the Lower Tennessee Valley Trail if you want a mostly flat hike. This is a great option if you have young kids with you. Otherwise, the main trail will have a steep climb with no shade. Once you get to the beach, there is a steep climb (800m) to the overlook - don’t miss out! It offers great views! As for parking, arrive early! If you get there by 9am you will be struggling getting any spots at the lot. There is plenty of street parking, but note the street is quite narrow and it fills up pretty quickly.
Fatima — Google review
Great trail to take the family - even the young kiddos. Amazing weather and feels like you are walking in the amazon rainforest but safer lol I love it overall - and didnt feel tired at all. The trails are easy, not much rock, and easy for all folks who may have some walking disabilities. You can always turn back if you feel like you’re tired. The beach was great as well - nice, cool, and amazing place to have a picnic.
Priscilla G — Google review
From the parking lot to the beach is 1.6mile. It’s a good run/walk to and back. I didn’t spend too much time exploring the beach. Maybe next time I’ll take off my shoes and walk on the sand. View is small and beautiful.

History museum

The SF-88L Nike Missile Site, located in Marin County, is the only fully restored Cold War defense site in the United States. During the Cold War era, it was a crucial part of America's efforts to protect itself from Soviet bombers. After its decommissioning as part of an arms reduction treaty, the National Parks Service took control of the site and veterans worked to restore it.
Wow. Coming here was an absolute treat. I lucked out; apparently on the first Saturday of each month, the museum is staffed by veterans who actually served at this particular installation and will regale you both with personal stories of their time in the service and the inner workings of the machinery on the base. Learning the unique history of this base from the men who ran it was a unique honor. Being able to get up close and personal with the missiles themselves was a whole different ballgame. This site still has a functional missile lift and, if you ask nicely, they will actually raise and lower the massive 40ft weapon on the elevator. It's extraordinary to witness in person and imagine what it must have been like when the base went to alert status and soldiers would scramble to ready the weapons for a possible engagement. There are also lots of beautiful trails nearby, including one to the Point Bonita lighthouse. You can spend hours here. Special thanks to Al Kellogg, whose stories I could've listened to all day.
H R — Google review
We loved this for both adults and kids (6 & 4). The ranger was engaging and informative. The tour was interactive and well done. We stayed a little longer than an hour.
C C — Google review
Amazing place hidden in plain sight. The veterans that gave the tour were exceptional at explaining how everything worked. I learned that the missiles launched from a much more vertical position than I thought, but unfortunately they could not fully demonstrate that due to leaking hydraulics with the launcher itself. The tour guide still raised the elevator from the ammo bunker for us, and it was cool to see just how manual the loading operation was, to reduce the amount of faults that automation could possibly cause. Set aside time for the full 3 hours that the location is open if you're interested in military history, or curious about American air defense.
Eric ( — Google review
Really cool museum. It’s an old Nike missile site. It was an active missile battery decades ago - for launching nuclear SAM (surface to air) missiles intended to stop nuclear bombers coming in over the Pacific. I think the site stopped operating in the mid-70s.
Nicholas M — Google review
A must visit. The tour guys are great. Tour is just the right length.
Len B — Google review
The SF-88 Nike Missile site is operated by volunteers who previously worked at the site when active. It provides a fascinating look back into the cold war and defensive measures against nuclear threats. Open 3 days a week in the afternoon. Visit with your own vehicle as cellphone reception is patchy and ride sharing services do not service the area for trips back to San Francisco from the site - it is a far distance from Sausalito in the Marin Headlands. Highly recommend visiting the site if visiting the Bay area.
Lovejeet B — Google review
I've known this site was here but never had the opportunity to visit. Well the other day we were driving thru and had time and turned in. Made it just in time for the last tour. It was amazing. Unbelievabe. Deactived nuclear tipped missiles right in front of you. Tour is free as is entrance but tours conducted only three days a week or so. A must visit. I will go again.
John B — Google review
Definitely one of the greatest experiences on my US road trip along the West Coast! We just happened to stumble across this amazing site, because we didn't know how to pay the Golden Gate Bridge toll, and we had to branch off to look it up on Google. There was no service, and we had to drive for a while to find service, and that's when we happended to pass this site. And it was open and they were about to launch the last tour of the day. Talk about luck! Our guide was a very knowledgeable gentleman who took us through the inner workings of the site with great enthusiasm! I'm visiting again next time I come to San Fran!

Perfect for a daytime trip with the little ones. We enjoyed the playground and swings though they were pretty simple. There was a few friendly people here and there but not crowded or loud at all. We had our wagon with us and walked down the path towards the water and enjoyed some beautiful flowers and a surprisingly great view. This is a great multi-use trail and the most straightforward segment for my running in the urban parts of Marin country, linking up Sausalito/Marin City and the towns further north like Mill Valley, Larkspur or Tiburon. The views aren't spectacular but at least peaceful and relaxing. Path traffic gets heavy on a nice weekend morning with lots of cyclists, runners and pedestrians. Also there is no shade at all so sometimes it can get smoldering on a hot day.
