Wine bar
Osteria del Sole is a historic 15th-century wine bar located in the heart of the Quadrilatero food market in Bologna. Despite its shabby appearance, this landmark venue offers an authentic and incredible atmosphere. While they don't serve food or non-alcoholic drinks, customers are encouraged to bring their own meals from nearby establishments such as Paolo Atti bakery and Simoni deli.
This is a must stop in Bologna! My husband, I came here during a week-long visit. We truly stumbled across this place while looking for somewhere to grab a glass of wine. Since we saw only locals inside, we opted to go in and I’m so glad we did. We found out later that this is the second oldest Osteria in Italy! The photos on the wall depict some of its amazing patrons who have been here in the past. We both got to try to very different types of amazing wine, local to the region. We decided to bring food with us from the Butcher just a few stalls down. And I’m so glad we did. The local meat and cheese paired well with the wine that we had, and offered a great respite from the afternoon heat. There is a bathroom, you don’t have to pay to use, if you are staying and enjoying a drink. There is plenty of seats and tables inside. And there are a few spots outside for smokers as well. The two gentlemen behind the bar were more than accommodating, and offered us a great deal of options to choose from for our wine. I was deciding between two that was suggested, and I was able to get a sample of each to try. The gentleman made sure I finish my entire sample before he poured me a fresh glass, fuller than I anticipated. The prices were more than fair and with this laid-back atmosphere, I felt I could stay there for hours, enjoying wine and a meal. This place is also good for groups, as they have a good amount of space to accommodate. You don’t have to dress up, or feel uncomfortable in wearing something more casual here. It’s not a very fussy place, which is why I think it should be on everyone’s list to visit. No reservations needed, you just walk in and find a spot. When my husband and I returned to Bologna, you can be sure I will be coming back!

Great vibe of authentic vintage pub. Really nice staff. Got two tasty local cheap beers and ate own lunch. A little disappointment was that the beer is bottled. It is not the place where you would like to spend whole evening, but i would recommend it for a quick drink.
Jiří Z — Google review
I honestly can’t even put into words how much I love this place. The drinks are always on point! The selection of snacks is insanely good, with so many tasty options that perfectly complement the drinks. What really stood out to me was how friendly and polite the waitstaff were. They spoke English well, which made ordering easy and stress-free, especially for a tourist like me.
KK — Google review
My wife and I were traveling through north central Italy when we stopped in Bologna and were lucky enough to find Osteria del Sole. This isn’t just a wine bar. It is a living piece of history that dates back to the 1400s. You can feel the centuries in every corner, from the worn wooden tables to the old clock that quietly watches over the room. There is something beautifully simple about this place. No menu, no fancy food, just good local wine and great conversation. The locals still bring their own food, as they have done for generations, and the energy is warm, genuine, and unmistakably Italian. Osteria del Sole is one of those rare places that stays true to itself. It has no need to modernize or pretend. It offers what travelers crave most, an authentic moment that connects you to the past. If you ever find yourself in Bologna, stop here. Have a glass of wine, share a laugh, and enjoy being part of a story that has been unfolding for over five hundred years.
Scott G — Google review
Just drinks here, long tables and benches, €3 for a glass of vino. Visit one of the many deli shops nearby and buy some mortadella, cheese etc and you can eat from the paper. Simple, authentic, old
Cathy-Sue H — Google review
This is an institution in Bologna. It’s a traditional osteria, where you can have a drink (you can get a glass of wine for 3 euros) and bring your own food (preferably from the Mercato Di Mezzo next door).
Alex — Google review
We had the best time at this osteria! It’s a cute little osteria, with an assortment of different wines which you can order by glass or bottle for a reasonable price. You can also bring your own food, as they do not serve food in this restaurant. When we got there it was packed to the limit, but we quickly saw a table become free and went to claim it. We had such a lovely time mixing and chatting to the locals. Would 100% recommend!
Anja B — Google review
This place is one of the more unique places in the Bologna market area. It happened to be the last stop on the food walking tour we did. We enjoyed a few bottles of spumante and the cold cuts we had purchased here before saying goodbye to everyone. It's somehow as loud as a football stadium at 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon. I imagine if you're a local and famous, you end up getting your picture on the wall. We were not that lucky, but if you are in the area and somehow figure out what this place is. You will have one the local Italian place to be award.

Jazz club
Wine bar
Cantina Bentivoglio is a 30-year-old jazz club located in the atmospheric basement of a 16th-century palazzo in Bologna. It offers live jazz performances six nights a week, featuring both upcoming artists and international stars. The venue also serves excellent traditional Bolognese dishes, such as homemade pasta and savory ricotta cheesecake, complemented by an extensive wine list with over 500 labels.
We had a nice family dinner at this rustic restaurant, during the weekend, both nights we were in Bologna. We ordered the bruschetta and cold cuts for appetizers; the tortellini and veal for the main course; and the ice-cream and the tiramisu for desserts. The traditional Bolognese dishes we tried were all tasty, and coming at a fair price. I fund the wine selection really good, with several options to choose from. The service was exceptional, the staff really took care of us, going above and beyond. The atmosphere was nice, especially with the jazz live music, definitely and was something to experience. It got really busy on Saturday evening, so I would recommend booking in advance, especially for a table near the music.
Ioana — Google review
Rustic and unique restaurant right in the heart of the city, offering local food and music entertainment, with outdoors sits as well as indoors. Food was visually appealing but not memorable and the service perhaps a bit distracted, I’d like to think due to the hectic crowd. But the music and atmosphere make this place absolutely worth visiting! The wine must be good too because clients were dancing happily!
Exclusive O — Google review
Restaurant with one room (cellar) offering live jazz music. That one was full so I had dinner in the regular dining room, which is nice though nothing spectacular. The food was however very tasty and refined. Service was ok though not very warm nor super attentive (I had to repeat a couple requests). Downside: they do not have a bar or open area in the music room to hang out and listen to the music after dinner for those who did not get a table in the music room.
Maya M — Google review
This was a really fun and unique experience with the live jazz band! The atmosphere was amazing, the service was good, the food was okay - I had higher expectations being in Bologna. The band started around 2130, we had a table pretty close and had excellent view of the band. I would still return again because it's was such a fun experience!
Lori B — Google review
Excellent food. The low-temperature cooked egg with asparagus and taleggio is worth trying, as well as the tartare. Service was excellent with attentive staff. The room was cozy and quiet enough to have nice and easy conversations. Price is in line with the quality.
Alessandro V — Google review
We are traveling through Italy on vacation and this was a great disappointment. We effectively lost a night of great dining to eat at this establishment. Service was horrible and they didn’t apologize for the delays in being food. Took 1 hour to bring us 3 simple pasta dishes and hummus. They promote the pasta is homemade…not a chance. Prof was that my pasta was half cooked and that can’t happen unless you made it from a box. They promote it as a jazz bar…no music playing. Avoid this place like the plague.
Tim D — Google review
Great place. Food is excellent, atmosphere authentic, and jazz music , what can I add more.
Boris G — Google review
The cantina was recommended by our hotel concierge and she was definitely right. We had a lovely evening with wine from an impressive wine list and excellent food. Highly recommended but one must reserve a table. There are two sections - one where you can listen to Jazz while dining and a more quieter space. We sat in the latter

Le Stanze is a unique restaurant and cocktail bar located in the heart of the city's student quarter. Housed within a repurposed 16th-century chapel, the venue features stunning frescoes and elaborate stuccoes adorning its walls and ceilings. The restaurant offers classic meat dishes, while the cocktail bar boasts meticulously crafted drinks served in a theatrical setting.
Super cool bar that looks like a cathedral. The drinks were really refreshing — my favorite was the amaretto sour. We had to ask for a seat in the front which I think had the best vibes.
Katie C — Google review
You must visit this bar/restaurant if in Bologna even if just to view the frescoes as they are amazing. Converted from an ancient chapel LE Stanze is a great place for a pre dinner cocktail or more. We had more, with drinks and food and were not disappointed even if the portions were on the small side. Would definitely return for cocktails.
DOVETAIL — Google review
I would give 6/5 starts if I could. An amazing atmosphere, great cocktails and super friendly staff. Not just nice to you, but also can say some history facts. I recommend Basil smash as the best cocktail.
Yuliya M — Google review
The atmosphere was incredible. The man that greeted and served us was very kind and attentive. The drinks were very heavy on the liquor (love that) and made well. The prices were respectable for the city. I would come here again
Katia A — Google review
Beer was tasty, service was friendly, location is amazing. However, the gin basil smash is not a gin basil smash? it’s gin with lemon and sugar. Either the usual Bartender wasn’t here, or they just never do it right, but this was definitely not what i would expect when ordering it.
Json — Google review
Atmosphere is nice. The waitress was not polite(unhappy); she placed the drink on the table as if she were throwing it. Maybe she s having a bad day. Anyway worth to try.
Burcu O — Google review
Went to the bar thinking it would be a good time but left with a bad experience. The drinks were over priced for bad quality, ordered an old fashioned and a mojito just for the drinks to come out with a pure cup of sugar sitting on the bottom. The place looked cool but the “church” was just a painting around the walls. Don’t get me wrong if the drinks were better I’d drink more and care less about how it looked inside.

Great view pf ponte veshi, delicious pasta lunch, a hidden gem , and a great view inside or out of river Arno, nice to give the feet a rest

Caffè Rubik is a unique spot in Bologna, located in a historic tabaccheria-bar premises and run by Alessio, Edoardo, and their friendly team. The eclectic decor features old cassettes, artworks, and an ever-diverse soundtrack. This cool pop-art cafe offers classic cocktails, beers, wine, amari (Italian digestifs), juices, coffee, pastries, and toasted sandwiches.
Unique retrovintage coffee bar. Great music selection, fast and friendly service. Good quality products. Being in the bar for an hour slightly felt like starring in to a Jim Jarmusch film. Ill be back! Thank you

A great little cafe just down the street from our accommodation. Every morning we visited for our espresso and apricot cornetto. Great service and great coffee! A great vibe!

Nice little coffee bar to rest and have a drink or a brunch. It is located nearby the two leaning towers of Bologna.

Absolutely fabulous coffee shop & bar. Great atmosphere day and night, always lots of people around and a great buzz. The coffee is wonderful and very well priced, and the staff are extremely helpful. A must for visiting Bologna for an authentic Italian coffee experience.
Dan L — Google review
Authentic place with great coffee, a huge choice of bitters, cool music and such a nice atmosphere. A little gem I’d love to return to.
Maria F — Google review
It's a bar in the style of 80s music, with many cassette tapes and tables painted by art students. Service and food/drink are great. I highly recommend this place for breakfast 🙂
Aleksandra G — Google review
Brilliant place either for coffee or cocktails. Always immaculate vibe and always packed with people so if you can grab a table - don't hesitate. Coffee is delicious and towards the evening - fab place for an Aperol Spritz or a cheeky Negroni. Nibbles - crisps & olives are complimentary to cocktails.
Patrycja J — Google review
My favorite bar in Bologna. It’s small inside and only has a limited number of tables outside. So just walk by and see if you are lucky. This place serves coffee in the morning and good drinks at night. Audience is quite young. Mostly students and a few tourists. Prices are very decent.

Cultural center
Event venue
Link is an underground cultural center that offers a variety of electronic and techno music alongside laser light shows and special effects. It is perfect for fans of the genre, as it is always active with parties happening on weekends. The staff are friendly and accommodating, making it a great place to go for true EDM enthusiasts.
We took the bus to the middle of nowhere and didn't really think that there would be anything out there. But then we heard the music from far away when walking towards there and when we got there everyone spoke english and was super kind. Depends on what party you go there, but we were treated very well and felt very safe.
Gijs K — Google review
Very bad waiting experience to queue for more than an hour outside at midnight to buy the AICS card (8€) in addition to the concert ticket (29€) as it was not possible to buy it online, making us miss the beginning of the concert. Not enough people from security and checking tickets at the entrance. Terrible organization for the parking also. Hopefully once we got in, the concert was good but I didn’t want to spend 1 euro for the cloakroom nor at the bar.
Iris W — Google review
Very hard to get to without the car and even if you have a car there's limited parking space. Closest bus station is approximately 20 minute walk and the acoustics could be much better. Also, there was an extra fee to enter beside the concert ticket
Goran M — Google review
Gioli Assia show 6th May 2023. After arrival we found out, that having just ticket for concert is not enough, we needed to buy something like the membership card and spend additional 8 euros, even if we are from abroad and are not planning to attend any more concerts. The club itself was ok. I was just annoyed by people smoking inside, even if there was two big door opened on each side of the building. But the biggest disappointment was the sound quality. The first DJ Sound was pretty good for playing in such a closed area, but after Gioli Assia started to play, the sound started to be dull and not good recognizable. So overall, I had fun, but with strange feelings and bit disappointment.
Jaromír K — Google review
Sound is good but it could be better, the speakers are great but reverb and spectrum is very uneven around the room. Some of it is the bare concrete walls, some of it is the concrete stairs. The speakers are not the only thing that make a place sound great. With a little bit of care for the room you can get to a great sound :)
Steven D — Google review
The sound was good. Had fun at new year's party. But even after purchasing the ticket ahead, we had to pay an additional amount to get a membership card
Edu M — Google review
Very nice audience and friendly staff unlike what was mentioned in previews review. Amazing underground ambiance for real EDM lovers!
Jad K — Google review
Damn cold! No heating system in this place! The sound is good, prices are decent but they make you have a membership card for their parties - I just wanted to attend one and paid 8 Euros for the card and 17 Euros for the event. The bathrooms are without doors - for men. Nice people, big space!

Fresh food market
Market
Mercato delle Erbe is the largest indoor market in Bologna, offering a wide array of fresh local produce, meats, cheeses, and other specialties. In addition to being a bustling marketplace, it has also become a popular dining destination with various food stalls and eateries serving traditional Italian dishes as well as international cuisine.
We went at 7a but only a few of the stations were open and ready for business. We grabbed some fruit from one of the stations though and it was so fresh! I imagine this market is amazing later in the morning when all the stations are open!
Kaitlyn H — Google review
Arrived at 2 on Saturday. Advertised as open.. Definitely not a bustling market at this time of day 80%of stalls closed. Pretty much fruit and veg only options. Some restaurants open but fresh selection limited. Update opening hours. Visit before.12 or after 5.30.or prepare to be disappointed 😔
Len S — Google review
Half the places here are closed Also, the central fruit stall is the only one we visited. While the melon was excellent, the fig was alright, the overly priced huge porcini was super expensive 60€ per kg. The worst part is that it's soggy after just one night in the fridge, when it's not even cooked yet. Absolutely disgusting to eat and such a scam
Yizhou W — Google review
The most beautiful and aesthetically pleasing vegetable market I have ever seen in my life – a breathtaking orchestration of colours, scents, and shapes.
Primož K — Google review
Stopped in as part of a food tour, so the experience was probably different than it would be if we had just popped in. As a result, the service was super friendly and attentive. There are a bunch of cute stores. Solid amount of options between pasta, cheese, meat, produce. I'm not sure I necessarily would have needed to come here it it weren't part of a food tour but in the end it was a nice experience. Not as overwhelming as some other similar markets may be and a nice way to see some of the authenticity of the area.
Andrew K — Google review
Many varieties of fresh vegetables. Excellent fish counter. The Mercado is lined with restaurants and coffee shops. We ate tapas al fresco behind the fish section of the market. Delicious food. Great variety. The staff totally understood which dishes had, or did not have gluten in them.
Julie K — Google review
A real farmers market. Some great stalls. Some beautiful food. What a treat to visit.
Dennis M — Google review
Quite a few stalls were closed when I visited, so it was lacking that hectic vibe that a true fresh food market has, but I managed to get great lunch options: pasta with brodo from one place and eggplant parmigiana piadina (made as the closed version, can’t remember the name) and both were so tasty! 😋

Camera A Sud is a charming and unassuming café nestled in the former ghetto area, featuring outdoor seating and an eclectic interior with mismatched armchairs, overflowing bookcases, and a soothing jazz soundtrack. It's a popular spot among locals and students from the nearby university district. The owners, Roberta and Lorenzo, who are both sommeliers, curate an ever-changing selection of wines by the glass.
Unpretentious hidden gem on a quiet Italian street corner. Amazing food, fresh and cooked to perfection. Didn’t try the alcoholic drinks but everyone around seemed to be enjoying them. Polite and relaxed servers.
Viktoriya A — Google review
Cosy and chill place for a nice lunch or dinner. We went there at around 14.00 and finished the lunch at 16 and they were still serving food . The food was good and they offer different kinds of food- ranging from curry’s, meat balls, traditional Italian food, to burgers . The vine selection is wide and they have several good vines to pick from if you only want a glass. The place is in the city center - so not much parking nearby - but easily accessible from the main parking spot in the piazza or by foot. The meatballs with basmati rice was nice, but a bit dry as it misses a saucy texture. So if you like dry foods, then it’s great - otherwise you will need to get some other dish to go with it. Ambiance is 10/10 , exactly what I would expect from the city .

Bingo ! Definitely local place. Good service, kind workers and local taste… Try local gin brands. I added one of them. It was ocean salty and great. The place became integrated with a street. I suggested to visit them if you are try to avoid from touristic place..

NU Lounge Bar is a stylish hotspot located near Piazza Maggiore, known for its artisanal tiki cocktails and appetizers. The founders' international expertise has made it a go-to spot for quality drinks in the city. The bar's chic atmosphere, with velvet sofas and exotic details, creates the perfect setting for enjoying their diverse cocktail selection, featuring fresh ingredients like orgeat, grenadine, Falernum, Honey Mix, Passion Fruit Syrup, and cinnamon syrup.
Incredibly fun tiki bar with limited edition mugs and great drinks. Probably the best piña colada we’ve ever had! Not busy on the Thursday night we visited. The assortment of snacks you get when first sitting down was very nice, kept us here for a few hours!

We came here late at night and were so glad we did! The tiki bar was super cute inside — such a fun and cozy vibe. The drinks were absolutely delicious with tons of unique and yummy options to choose from. The service was top-notch — friendly, fast, and made us feel welcome right away. We loved everything about it and will definitely be back the next time we’re in Bologna!

Super nice place! Very busy and unfortunately lacking staff. After getting a table nobody gave a menu, I had to go and look for it myself. Once we managed to order the it took 45 min to receive 2 cocktails. As an apology for wait we got offered free shots which was a nice gesture. The cocktails were good but I would not be coming back again.

What a great little find! Drinks were exactly what you expect from a good tiki bar and everything has just the right amount of flair. Great little find!

Dali jsme si drinky , ale nedoporučuji… něco tak hrozného jsme už dlouho nepili . Sklenice plná ledu . Určitě nedoporučujeme To be specific – we ordered a Piña Colada, a cocktail we know well and drink often elsewhere, so we’re aware of how it should taste. Yours was sour, topped with whipped cream, had odd chunks inside, and the glass was almost full of ice, leaving very little actual drink. We understand that taste can be subjective, but in this case it wasn’t a matter of preference – the cocktail was simply not prepared correctly. From a cocktail bar, we would expect

You will totally feel like you've stepped into some 1960s tiki bar when you come to NuLounge Bar in Bologna. The ambiance is killer, the music perfect, the drinks insane and the all around vibe very cool. Was here for my birthday last year and had an absolute blast with my friends. Drinks are not only delicious but spectacular visually. Loved the food the atmosphere and the location - right in the center of the city. Make sure to stop in the next time you're in town - it's so worth a visit!

We enjoyed our drinks which were well-made, but it's no longer a tiki spot - my fault for waiting too many years to get to Bologna
Roger F — Google review
Good vibes, very busy, music good but a bit loud and service was so so due to them being understaffed. 45mins to order and then the person who took the order forgot to punch in the drink so we waited another 20mins. Menu a bit odd as well. We had one and left.

Caffè Zanarini is a historic and centrally located cafe managed with love by the Antoniazzi family, renowned for their Lombard pastry expertise. It's the perfect spot for a relaxing breakfast in beautifully designed and welcoming spaces, offering a delightful selection of sweet and savory pastries. Located under the stunning porticoes of Pavaglione, near Basilica di San Petronio, this cafe has been a city landmark since 1930.
The best coffee I had in Bologna! By far the most tasty one and highly recommended for those of you that prefer it plain black. High value for money (it's more expensive than other coffee shops in the city, but what a difference...) be ware of the pasterys ;)
Karina R — Google review
Stopped at Café Zanarini for a cocktail on a very hot day in Bologna. The temperature was 33 and we needed a rest, some water and a pick me up. It looks an expensive café with the nice tables outside and well uniformed staff but it is not and is very much worth a visit. The big surprise was that when you order a cocktail you get a black bun with ham, peanuts, crisps and olives for free ! The staff are brilliant and it’s great to seat and people watch.

⭐ One Star – A Bitter Taste at Cafe Zanarini Despite its elegant setting in Piazza Galvani, our visit to Cafe Zanarini was marked by inefficiency and indifference. We waited approximately 10 minutes in a queue near the terrace before being seated. Once at our table, we endured another 20 minutes of being ignored—until a waiter mistakenly tried to serve us a cake we hadn’t ordered. We seized that moment to request the menu, which thankfully arrived promptly. But after an additional 15 minutes of being overlooked, we decided to leave. I can’t comment on the food or drinks, because we never got that far. What I can speak to is the lack of service, which was disorganized and inattentive from start to finish. With over 250 reviews under my belt, one-star ratings are rare—but this one is unequivocally deserved. The experience left a bitter taste, and unfortunately, not the kind that comes from espresso.

A very atmospheric café/restaurant in the heart of bologna. It’s perfect if you’d like to try some specialities from the region with cocktails and coffees. There are also very delicious sweets you can add to the mix. The waiters don’t really speak english but are still friendly and welcoming. However you have to wait quiet a while until they serve you and when you ask for coffee or dessert. If you don’t mind spending a bit more time with lunch or dinner it’s a great restaurant to visit.

Beautiful and elegant place. Desserts are fresh, tasty and nicely presented. Coffee is not exceptional, and prices are on the higher side, but overall it’s a pleasant experience.

This place doesn’t even deserve one star I went in alone and when I first sat down the staff acted friendly and quick but the moment I was seated they vanished I decided to wait and see how long it would take It took over 40 minutes just to place a simple order Yes it was a bit busy but that’s no excuse People who arrived after me were already eating while I was still sitting there being ignored I raised my hand clearly Two staff members looked straight at me and still did nothing Worse they stood inside whispering to each other while glancing at me like I wasn’t supposed to notice It honestly felt humiliating and borderline discriminatory It made me incredibly uncomfortable and angry Eventually someone else came over and apologized but at that point it didn’t mean anything I had gone in just to have breakfast but ended up waiting more than 50 minutes for food By then it wasn’t breakfast it was a wasted morning and my whole day’s schedule was ruined I don’t care how good the food might be for others No one should be treated like that especially when they’re alone The only remotely decent moment was when the staff member at the end processed my payment politely Too little way too late I won’t ever be coming back If you can’t handle the number of guests then reduce the number of tables You’re overreaching and it clearly shows Knowing your limits and running things properly is part of being a good business Fix it

Since its opening in 2014, it has been at the forefront of the city's mixology scene, offering a laid-back atmosphere and expertly crafted cocktails that are both simple and sophisticated. The bar has played a significant role in revitalizing Bologna's cocktail culture. Its informal setting welcomes patrons to explore and fall in love with mixed drinks without intimidation.
Ruggine was our favorite spot of the weekend in Bologna! The cocktails are not only amazing but also generous. The service was outstanding: warm, attentive, and incredibly efficient. We were also blown away by the food, which was delicious. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting. A true gem that’s an absolute must-visit if you’re in Bologna!

Don't let the street spook you, the bar is amazing. A lot of local people visit this bar/pub and the drinks do not dissapoint (you even get some free veggies and a lot of chips, even refills if you want). I can reccomend the Gold Rush beer for IPA lovers.

Nestled just a stone's throw from Piazza Maggiore, Medulla Vini is a charming wine bar that exudes warmth and intimacy. Owned by the passionate Luca and his adorable dog Uva, this cozy spot invites guests to feel right at home while exploring an impressive array of organic and biodynamic wines. Wine bar (shop really) tucked away under a portico. Serving by the bottle or by the glass if a bottle is open. Fabulous selection of wines and very knowledgeable and helpful staff. Very quirky, really enjoyed it here for a pre-dinner drink. Was heaving later so it seems a popular spot.

A true gem. Outstanding service and guidance. Delicious orange wines (skin contact). Affordable wine by the glass. Highly, highly recommended.
Starra B — Google review
This wine bar in Bologna is so cozy, chilled and unpretentious. We visited two nights in a row and enjoyed sitting outside under the porticos, people-watching from chairs that spilled onto the pavement. The owner is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about wine. There's no menu; instead the inside of the bar is lined with dozens and dozens of organic, natural and local wine bottles. You tell the owner what kind of wine you like, or would like to try, and he makes suggestions. You can drink it by the bottle or glass. Price-wise, there are affordable bottles similar to what you'd pay in a restaurant (€15-25 per bottle) all the way to very expensive, rare types. We asked to try local wines from the Emilia-Romagna region, so he suggested a Tera (a Ravenna Trebbiano) and Paltrinieri 'Radice' Lambrusco di Sorbara. Both were absolutely delicious and we had no problem finishing the bottles. If I lived in Bologna, I'd happily go there again and again.

Excellent, excellent, excellent!!!!! Great, quiet place to hang out and have wine. The wines are organic, you just tell the lovely hostess, who had brilliant eyes and a beautiful smile, what type of wine you're seeking and she picks something out for you try! You get a little dish or organic tarali to nibble on. I've been here twice in 2 days and plan on going back for more.

Outstanding little wine bar in pretty central Bologna. Great and eccentric service from the owner (rest of staff also excellent), does everything he can to match a wine to your palate, and will open up any number of bottles to do so. What a disaster, First of all the scam you on price, it says 15 euro but they charge you extra 1.5 for online ticket and when you want to pay they charge you 2 euroes without any notification (it says 2€ for services) which they do not exist. It says reserved seats on tickets bud there is not actually, Also, when you enter the club they charge you 5€ more just for coat hanging. Price of drinks is unreasonable and ridiculous. Needles to say that my grandma could DJ better than the clown they put behind the system. All in all it didn't worth the experience.
Matin M — Google review
If I could give less than 1 star I would..discussed with Numa for 2 weeks about booking a table for a Friday in April.. when we arrived at the club it turned out it was closed (open according to google as well). Response from Numa - ‘oh we actually have a private event on this Friday sorry’. Ridiculous communication from Numa.. DO NOT waste your time and better head to other places in Bologna. Do not trust google opening hours or even private comms with Numa.
Sarah — Google review
This club should be closed! We came on 19.9, took a train from Rimini just to visit Italian nightclub and ended up disparaged, waiting outside for 3 hours & not let in. There was an event on that day starting at 23:00, so we came at this time and been told by security that we need to wait another hour, that for some reason they will open at midnight. So we waited. They opened at about 00:15 and we started waiting in a line. Some of us were let in, some not. Security guy told us the reason is dress code. (not published anywhere & other people wearing the same without problem) We all were dressed up the same way, so it didn’t make any sense. We were told to take a place in a different line and once all other listed people get inside, they will let us in. (They said all of this in english, able to speak it with no problem). So we waited for another hour. Meanwhile we watched dozens basically half naked girls all let in. They only selected us and another +-10 foreign guys to wait outside. (Many of them formally dressed, just different skin colour…). We kept asking them if we can go in, that we already waited there for hours, but they started pretending that they don’t understand english. “no english, ask other guy” all babbling the same. They kept saying to wait another 30minutes so we can be let in. IT WAS 3:00am when we sent a local guy to try to help us and tell them to let us in. Even this crazy late they told him that we need to wait, and that they will decide later. Never felt this disparaged in our life. They were dealing with us as if we were animals willing to stand still for permission. 3:30 am we decided to leave, disgusted and robbed for the only little time we had there! Later we talked with a few locals and been told that this club only allows rich guys on some list, and then all the girls so these desperate guys can hit on them buying expensive drinks. Also witnessed how racist that security was against other race made us feel very disappointed with this Italy experience. Do not make the same mistake as us ruining your vacation, find a different spot. There is nothing that could possibly excuse this behaviour in European country and the staff should be kicked and not ever be in touch with people!
CoZaRa — Google review
Becareful about its price! It is written 15€ for entrace for example, but when you want to buy the ticket online, you will be charged 1.5€ as a presale and 1.98€ for service fee and another 5€ for giving your coat to them before entering the dance stage, and each drink will cost you an extra 10-12 €.

Terrible place, located far from the city center in a dangerous district. We had to wait almost 2 hours to enter even if we had purchased the presale tickets and waited almost 2 hours to collect the jacket. The drinks inside were terrible and extremely expensive (10€ for 1 shot!!!). Never again.

Went twice to this restaurant in my 4days trip. Awesome place, great atmosphere, great service but Bologna seems to offer great service in most places. The first night, host and waiter made that great impression we were coming back. I’d say, a must diner to have in Bologna. ❤️❤️ I’ll be def back!
Lusida T — Google review
Be aware that they expect you to pay extra for live music, and that the price differs every evening. The food was ok, nothing special by Bologna standards. And there is also a coperto charge on top of the concert charge. The live music is also incredibly loud in the small space.
Skyduke — Google review
Our waiter completely forgot about us. He took our order. We asked for one more water, starter and 2main dishes — after 15min we had to ask again if he could kindly bring us the water, and when we did, he simply replied, “later” and went away, the he sent another waiter instead. After 35 minutes, we finally got our starter. Over an hour later, we asked how much longer we would have to wait for our main dishes — turns out, the waiter never placed our order at all. At that point, we asked for the bill, as after 2 hours of waiting, you just stop being hungry. They told us we didn’t have to pay for 2waters ans the starter which we got. Still — I wouldn’t recommend this place. As someone who has worked as a waitress in a 5star hotel, I can honestly say the service was very poor.

What a lovely place. We were looking for live music on Sunday and came accross this cafe. They had a great band on. We didn't eat but the food coming to the tables looked good. They didn't have a cocktails menu but theyvwere happy to make us spritzers and hugos. The couvert was 20 euros if you wanted to stay close to the stage or 10 if you didn't mind sitting a bit further. It is quite a small place, very cosy with lovely service and atmosphere, you should definitely try this place.

Lovely wine bar with super friendly and helpful staff who recommended us wines and light bites. They have a huge, impressive range of Italian wines from your daily drinking ones to wines for special occasions.

The focus here is on wine, with such a large selection that everyone is likely to find something they enjoy—both in terms of price and variety. A perfect opportunity for tasting, accompanied by good cheese or a platter of cold cuts. Everything would have been a 5-star experience if not for the server, who seemed completely lost in his role—unable to offer advice, present anything, or even ask if we’d like something to eat with our glass of wine. Total indifference. I’d describe the atmosphere as a place with potential—it was genuinely pleasant, except for the service.

Buying wine can be an intimidating experience — but not at Enoteca Italiana. After settling in at a table, I walked up to the counter to ask if they had a menu, only for the staff to chuckle and say, “Menu for wine? Dear Cassero team, We visited your space yesterday, hoping to experience the safe, queer environment you proudly promote on Instagram. Instead, we were turned away simply because we were not members – something that had not been clearly communicated anywhere. As queer visitors from abroad, it’s deeply frustrating to be excluded from what’s supposed to be a safe place for our community. The lack of accessibility and transparency feels especially jarring when your public image is so inclusive. Don’t get me wrong – your centre looked amazing from the outside, and we can truly imagine why you introduced the membership system as a way to ensure safety for your regular guests. That’s a good and valid intention. Still, exclusion should never be a core value of a community centre. I would honestly love to return and experience a great evening at Cassero – not only for myself, but so I can tell my peers in Germany about the beautiful, welcoming queer space you offer in Bologna. I hope future visitors will feel that welcome more clearly. With respect, Lilli

seems great from the outside, but be warned that they do not accept entry after 3am (an hour and a half before closing) and when you are allowed to enter, if you do not have a membership you have to pay for entry AND a membership card (€20). as a queer person i was looking forward to going to cassero but considering i was leaving the next day i did not see the point in paying so much for just one night. it’s surprising and sad to see a queer space be so limiting
Charlotte C — Google review
We went on a Wednesday night and the line to enter the club was insanely long. People were pushy the bouncers were not able to handle the rowdy crowd. This already gave us a bad feeling. I’m surprised to not see more reviews mentioning this. But as a heads up to anyone visiting the club not only do they not sell single entrance tickets forcing you to get a membership but in doing so they collect and store your name, date of birth, place of birth, nationality, and id number. When asked why they need this information they said they use it for statistic purposes to see who visits the club. We responded that we don’t want them to store our personal ID NUMBERS, and after waiting in line for an hour we were told sorry we can’t enter. We were told the privacy policy and security regarding the storage and use of this personally identifiable data could be found on the website but after checking multiple times it is nowhere to be found. They also make you sign a consent form in which you agree to data processing but is it really informed consent if you’re making drunk/stoned 20 year olds sign this waiver? Not only am I pretty sure that what they are doing is not in accordance with the GDPR (therefore highly illegal), I also cannot fathom for what reason a club needs to store this information, especially your id number. All of this information is enough for identity theft in certain countries in case of an inevitable data security breach!! Please take this as a word of caution for anyone thinking of visiting. Definitely not worth it.

Not small as u can think but even big as a real disco. Cheap entrance and basic prices for drinks. A little bite far from the center and there isn’t too much bus to come back during late night. You have to pay the card the first time you wanna go but after it is almost always free the entrance.

One of the most iconic rock places in Italy, the rock Mecca I was searching for. Great music selection, amazing bands scheduled during the year, cool atmosphere that let you enjoy every single gig like a magic and suggestive moment. The staff is great and friendly. Will definitely go back there a lot

Italian restaurant
Trattoria di Via Serra is a charming Italian kitchen located just outside the historic center of Bologna. Despite its simple decor, it's one of the most popular spots in town, so booking ahead is essential. The menu changes frequently, featuring dishes like pear-stuffed tortellini, chestnut-flour spaghetti with porcini and hazelnuts, and pistachio-dusted chicken liver pate.
What an absolute gem! If you haven’t booked in advance, good luck as it is very busy but if you turn up early and queue you may get one of the few open seats available. If you want to book, call between 10 and 12 and they tend to answer the phone. The food was wonderful. Local produce, cooked based on the seasons. Not much choice but who cares when it is this good? My starter of young Parmesan and bacon was delightful followed by tagliatelle al ragu which was superb and finished with a ricotta cheesecake that melted in the mouth. The wine list doesn’t exist as it is house wine but lovely. The service was spot on and the owner was delightful. Oh, and amazing value for money too. Overall, a wonderful experience made better by meeting a beautiful English lady at the end of dinner who loved the place just as much as I did.

a must go if you’re in Bologna. the tip to get a table is either make a reservation (a week or two in advance), or be there early before they open to do walk in (if you’re lucky enough). the waitress (she got the looks of Lady Gaga) was super friendly and welcoming, i hope you get her! the food was simple but very very good, definitely worth dining here!

I’ve been up and down Italy seeking out the best food everywhere I go, and this is absolutely one of the best meals I’ve had in over 20 years visiting this country. Not only is the food good, but the owner and staff are super friendly and gracious. They are booked solid every night and don’t even really need to open the door if they don’t want to. But they will tell anyone that tries to get in without a reservation what the situation is and the best way to get in. Lovely place I will be back many times
Jason W — Google review
This was easily one of our most special meals in a city with so many wonderful dining options. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, the owner is very thoughtful and friendly, and the food is insanely delicious. We stopped here for lunch and my mouth waters just thinking about it. Plus, even combined with wine and sparkling water, it was very reasonably priced. The location was a bit out of the way for us in comparison to other restaurant selections but was totally worth it. Highly recommend.
Jerry G — Google review
The place to visit, to get the memorable Tagliatelle Ragu, of Bologna. Atmosphere and the people of the place are remarkable and it feels as if you were invited home to them. With the owners still very much involved, with one in the kitchen and the other one running the serving area looking after everyone.

sono tornato per saperne di più! Yes I died went to pasta heaven, so I have come back in as many days to indulge in the delicious food this humble trattoria has to offer! Do not be surprised by the small menu; to me it was very reassuring in that the food is well thought about and its preparation and execution will be great. The daily special: the ricotta & asparagus flan was so light and velvety, it was the perfect prequel for the tortelloni.. god, my god it was delicious. I cried on the inside when I devoured the last morsel of it! The zuppa ingelese, an Italian classic was the perfect way to end the meal. I wanted more, I'm back for more!

Looks and smells so good, but unless you manage to book somehow, or they happen to have a spot free, be prepared for a long walk back to the centre for food! (I tried calling, but as their sign says, they often don’t have time to answer the phone…)

It offers a variety of local specialties such as fresh pasta, salumi, cheeses, piadine, tigelle, wines from the Enoteca Regionale Emilia-Romagna, craft beer, gourmet sandwiches, and sweets.
Really nice Place for experiencing Italian tastes and local wine. We had and Amazing bolognese with tagliatelle and another one with niocchi di zucca. The latter one was one of the best things. Dont forget to try also the wine, strong and original.

Lots of dining options in this plaza and a great way to try traditional foods without breaking the bank. We especially enjoyed this pasta place. The pastas are made fresh and cooked when ordered. You have full view of the bar and kitchen so you can clearly see how clean they keep the space even during the busiest hours.

Very nice foodmarket in the centre of Bologna. Today end of septembre it is still very crowded in the centre with tourist all over the world. The Mercato offers a nimber of shops mostly specialized f.e. On pasta, wine, pizza, panini etc. It is a lovely place to eat and enjoy.

Art Museums
MAMbo - Museo d'Arte Moderna di Bologna, also known as Bologna's Museum of Modern Art, is a vibrant cultural institution that opened in 2007. Housed in the former Forno del Pane, it offers a comprehensive exploration of Italian art from the post-World War II era to the present day. The museum actively engages with contemporary art through temporary exhibitions and innovative artistic practices.
Museo d’Arte Moderna di Bologna is a small but interesting museum with some thought-provoking installations. While it didn’t leave a huge impression on me, I appreciated the selection of contemporary works. The space is well-organized, and the exhibitions are engaging, though the collection is not very large. If you’re in the area and enjoy modern art, it’s worth a short visit, but don’t expect an extensive collection.
Kasia — Google review
We visited both of the exhibitions. But we liked temporary one more. It was abput social and gender contents and the artworks were interesting. You can buy tickets there.
Zeynepnaz A — Google review
Excellent museum with an amazing temporary exhibition of Ironic Art. Well set out and easy to navigate. Tickets are available online or in person. Staff all very friendly and museum is well maintained. Closed on Mondays so don't make the same mistake I did

It’s a bit of a walk from the centre but well worth the visit. We paid our admission and we’re told to start upstairs. When we went upstairs we were then told by a strange gallery assistant that because there was an Artist piece about to start we weren’t allowed in ! After standing about for 15 minutes , along with others we ignored this lady and started to view the artwork. Well worth a visit, just ignore the assistant in the upper gallery.
DOVETAIL — Google review
Since this trip was all about taking a break I was looking for something calm like a museum or art gallery and ended up visiting here 1. The staff were really kind :) 2. There was a lot to see 3. It was cool and comfortable which is perfect for summer I don’t know the first thing about art but after walking around and seeing all these beautiful works I somehow felt like I walked out a little more valuable myself Thank you☺️
Seoul_En_España — Google review
The permanent Morandi collection is amazing. I visited twice in 3 days. So many wonders to see.
Seph — Google review
It’s fun and informative, the entry is free for students which I always appreciate. I didn’t like the temporary exhibition that was on when I visited, but they are constantly changing so and the next will probably be better. The part about contemporary art history is súper interesting, probably my favorite part.
Arianna M — Google review
Huge disappointment. Found only a few remotely interesting pieces, but most of the art here felt very rushed and superficial. Everything from the prints to the video displays lacked depth and meaning, and the entire museum was just very bland, with no personality. Also, staff is pretty unfriendly. €6 wasted. P.S. students enter for free.

Amazing food at affordable prices. We ate here last night and our kids asked to come back today. That’s not a common thing for us! The owner and all the workers are super nice and down to earth. They are very passionate about the food and welcomed us even without reservations. Don’t miss this gem!

Marsalino is an experience. The family running the restaurant works like a clock. The place is cozy, service is quick. I strongly suggest to make a reservation for prompt seating. All pasta is freshly made, the sauce is very tasty but not overtaking the pasta. There is a good selection of wine, beer and drinks. Overall it was a great experience.

The waiters were friendly and efficient. The food was served quickly with breads and wwater. The ragu and the Chitarra alla Gricia (lightly smoked pork cheek) was very good with the al dente pasta. We finished the meal with Spimone al Limone served with cat tongue for dessert. A very tasty meal reasonably priced. We would recommend that you give it a try.

Outstanding food and gentlemen working here. Great value for your money and really nice refreshing cold draft beer too. The kind of beer you can keep drinking all night long and it’s like $6 for a large one. Easily my best meal in Italy so far!! They gave me a few free shots of limoncello and grappa too. Thanks boys!!

The food was absolutely magnificent and delicious, pastas were cooked perfectly al dente. Me and my family ordered the cacio e pepe and spaghetti ragu, the sauce was amazing and matches up the pasta. It was very fullfiling and cheep too! Workers there were very nice and polite, they were also super friendly and chill, all of them were happy, the atmosphere had a very cozy feel to it, the tables were very comfortable. We also ordered some glass of wine, it was very tasty and has a reasonable price! What an amazing resturant, definitly deserves a 5 star rating.

Art gallery
The Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna is a museum showcasing Italian art from the 13th century to the 1700s, with a focus on Renaissance works. Situated in close proximity to several significant cultural and educational institutions, including the Science Institute and the Academy of Fine Arts, this museum features 30 halls for permanent exhibitions as well as spaces for temporary displays, workshops, and conferences.
Beautiful museum with 30 rooms full of paintings from the thirteenth to the eighteenth century, including the early Renaissance period. They have some absolutely breathtaking masterpieces, paintings that are over 7 meters tall and 3.5 meters wide. The museum is super clean and there is A/C in most rooms. I would say generally an hour is enough time to see it entirely. We visited in the morning, at open (9AM), and got tickets on the spot, as there was no line. Students of art enter for free, and young adults (18-25) pay €2 for entry. The adult ticket is €6.

A great gallery and well worth a visit. We managed to visit the Graduate show at the same time and were very happy to be there when this was on . Lots of good student work that gave us so many ideas to try ourselves when back in Scotland.
DOVETAIL — Google review
One of Italy’s important regional “national” galleries reflecting local artistic heritage (not just a local museum, but of national significance). Strong focus on the local artistic tradition of Bologna & Emilia-Romagna: gives visitors insight into an art-history side that’s less obvious than the very big tourist hubs. Relatively manageable size compared to massive museums, which can make for a relaxed, high-quality visit.

Such an odd place. If you go by foot from the city center it takes around 1h. The walk is quite nice because you get to see different parts of Bologna. The area of the MAST is like a miniature Storm King. There were a lot of security men (MIB) and free roaming of the whole compound was impossible. The vibe was off.

Beautiful, spacious gallery that is a bit far out from the centre of town but well worth the trip. I think they only have space for one exhibition but the one they had was great to explore. Most elegant museum I’ve been to. The staff is incredibly courteous and discreet. Even the bathroom are fancy, the art is incredible. But again I’m visiting from the US so… At this time, you need proof of negative Covid test or proof of vaccination, and they provide you with an N95 mask.

Bar Senza Nome is a unique and popular spot known for its exclusively deaf staff, making it the first of its kind in Italy. Located near the Mercato delle Erbe food market, this low-key bar has been serving up cocktails, wine, and draft beer for over a decade. Despite its name meaning 'without a name,' it's a central part of the bustling bar scene in the area.
So nice place with amazing night atmosphere . We loved it 👌Absolut hot drinks😜
Ladislav G — Google review
Not recommended if you need the experience. But good for photos and may be just for a coffee as the dining area was well arranged. However the service was bad. They just gave us order just as in other bars with no fun nor special experience. We ordered cocktails and they served without straws saying straws got over. Then when we insisted as it is impossible to sip over the ice, he found some paper sraws from another bar and gave us. So that weren't worth the price either. Washrooms weren't kept well.
Prathibha P — Google review
One of the coolest bars we visited. They are known for their hearing impaired bartenders so they have a cool wall showing you the sign languages for different drinks order. Highly recommend checking this out!
Queeny Q — Google review
It's such a perfect place, we went for coffee and stayed for hot choccolate and their craft beer (the beer is super recommended!), we had no experience with sign language but the entrance has notes on every item on the menu in ISL. We also wanted to purchase a beer glass with the restaurant's logo that was displayed in a cabinet with other merchandise, the bartender told it was unfortunately not for sale, but then he went and just gave us a glass from their kitchen with the same logo, he even refused money from us on it! I really cant stress how great this place is, the staff is extremely nice and welcoming and there is all kinds of beautiful art of the bar workers on the walls. Highly, highly recommend!
Triple T — Google review
Crowded but in a good way, noise but still chill somehow, people chatting loud and drinking like they knew eachother. I got a cocktail, pretty ok, fresh but maybe too much ice, my friend beer was fine too, he said good anyway. Service was fast, faster then I expected, even if all tables full, didn’t wait much. Prices… not cheap, I think a bit high, but then again maybe you pay more for the whole vibe than for the glass itself. I would come back, honestly felt real, not like those touristic bars where everything is fake.
Stelian A — Google review
We had a blast at Bar Senza Nome! It was so cool to order in sign language and see people communicating in sign language. When you enter, there is a wall to the right showing the signs for different drinks. It was a highlight of my time in Bologna. We did have a little trouble finding it. There are at least three bars right in a row and we weren’t paying close attention.

Well worth a visit, one of the better beer ranges in town.

A lovely little craft beer shop/patio with a small selection of rotating taps and some local amaros. Staff are very friendly and helpful, and the decor is very charming. A great spot for a tasty cold beer after a hot day walking around Bologna!

An incredibly friendly place with an excellent choice of beers. Natalia is the nicest person we have met in Italy and was very helpful for the whole time we were there. Try the Raspberry & Basil Sour, in particular. I can't recommend this place enough!

Located in the pub/nightlife area of the city (Pratello) this small beer shop with taps provides an excellent selection of rots ting beers from all over the world. Their expertise is guaranteed, as it is owned by the same guys at the Harvest pub, a staple of local craft beer culture. The place is colourful and relaxed, with not too many places to sit, but a lot of space right in front of it to hang out during your bar crawl.

Nestled in the vibrant Via Pratello 22, just a stone's throw from Piazza S. Francesco, Macondo - Cocktail Bar draws inspiration from Gabriel Garcia Marquez's enchanting fictional city. This unique bar is not only a tribute to the imaginative world of 'One Hundred Years of Solitude,' but it also serves as a creative hub for cocktail enthusiasts.
Very lovely bar for not-very-huge groups, with live music, nice drinks, craft beer and a lovely staff. The enterior feels great, and you can have some food as well. Only that the live music was a bit too loud for us, considering it was a small place. Other than that, everything was a fine experience :)

We had the pleasure of being served by Giuseppe, fantastic service and great conversation! Amazing range of spirits, a proper place for a decent cocktail designed by the team in house with their own infusions. Great atmosphere and vibe! Thank you Giuseppe for your hospitality! Amrit & Ben

A cozy, stylish and very well run Cocktailbar. I had a Negroni and a Paloma which were both really nice. The prices are reasonable, they even sell Burgers (tasty ones) for 5€. What's also important: really friendly staff. Will come back! Be careful with your receipt, errors can happen at late hours.

Friendliest bar with great music and the tastiest cocktail I have ever had (wrong island iced tea, made with ginger beer instead of coke!) We ended up in here on the last night of our honeymoon and we loved it! Even got a shot of the tastiest tequila to see us on our way when we left. Amazing find and will definitely go back :)

Estragon, Bologna's largest rock club, has been entertaining music lovers since 1992. Located in a spacious warehouse outside the city, it hosts a diverse range of domestic and international rock bands. While its industrial location may pose challenges for transportation, the staff is known for their friendliness and the sound quality is top-notch. Despite some navigation quirks, it offers an intimate gig space with well-organized facilities. Additionally, visitors can enjoy delicious sandwiches from the food truck parked outside.
Went there for a gin festival with a 90's music party afterwards. The place is super spacious so will fit loads of people, parking was free and the acoustics of the place are really good. There are 3 bars to get a drink.
Agnieszka — Google review
Saw Paul Weller here last night ... overcrowded and too hot inside. Getting to the venue by foot was a nightmare ... do not use the Google map advice which merely takes you to locked gates around the periphery. Stay on the main road instead.
Tes — Google review
It was a nice venue for the not-so-ordinary electroacoustic concert (with Niklas Paschburg) today. I came by bus and made sure to follow the instructions on Estragon's website, though Maps now seems to mostly agree with them. It's weird to walk over the whole parking lot, but once in the lot, there's no further obstacles. The sound system made a good impression, though for today's genre, the (sub-)bass was a bit over the top and sustained notes made something rattle in a distracting manner. There was seating (probably as an exception), reasonably priced drinks, a wardrobe…
Nicolai W — Google review
Can only be accessed at the exact street address via a parking access road. Google Maps will mislead you in a million other ways. The venue does little to help people find their way. If you’re on foot, particularly, beware!
Lino M — Google review
The club has seen better times I'd say, but it's ok. Don't believe Google Maps guiding you to part entry on east or south - the only entrance to park is from autostrada/buses -- west side of the park.
Rodyon B — Google review
Weird location, but great venue. Make sure you know where you're going on the way there and to call a cab as soon as you get out, the industrial location makes it difficult to walk or take transit to the city center. Staff is super nice, sound is good.
Tori H — Google review
Basically a tent in Parco Norte, in an ugly isolated area. Easy acces with bus 25 - we used Don Gnocchi stop (Google Maps recommendation), the walking directions were a little bit confusing - you'll have to turn imediatelly right (on the grass) after going down the bus (coming from the city center). Good management of the show, nice service on the desks for picking up the tickets for the Passenger show (we bought them online with Ticketmaster). The waiting time between the performance of the guy opening the show and the Mike's show was way too long - half an hour. The drinks provided were nice and not too expensive. The show was great, good sound etc. The crowd made the difference. :)

Located near Bologna's central station, Locomotiv is a vibrant live music club that showcases a diverse range of artists, from local talents to international acts. The venue hosts rock bands, DJs, and cultural events in addition to offering a video workshop and recording studio. Situated in a small park area just ten minutes from the main railway station, Locomotiv is known for its energetic atmosphere and impressive lineup of concerts.
Fun little beer garden with affordable drinks and great atmosphere under shaded trees.
Stefan J — Google review
The club has an okay atmosphere; however, you are obliged to pay for a card before entry; mind you, that is still so even if you booked a ticket to an event. And apps like DICE do not inform you prior to the event, so you end up paying that 8€ card fee anyway. The thing that is even more absurd is that they obliged me to renew my card that I got 6 months ago, saying that it had expired! Apparently they count from September to September... So, even if you get your card right before September and you are attending another show after September, you'd have to renew your card, whereas they should have put the date exactly when you got your card and count for one year, which would have been much more reasonable... One last thing, they do not issue receipts when you purchase their cards, which is obviously illegal, too.
Gurkan C — Google review
Nice venue with good acoustics, close to the station and lots of different people playing. You'll need a special card to attend many events, make sure to keep that in mind!
Carlo S — Google review
Great little venue, was lucky enough to see a fairly big band here, the venue's limited size created an awesome atmosphere. My only gripe is that they made you pay and sign up to their membership prior to going in. It was mandatory, in the UK people would be up in arms if they were made to do the same.
Alex M — Google review
The "THING" is - it was most disappointing when we came from Bavaria especially to see the best Italian bands, having a valid ticket but "No Membership". 😭😭😭 At 22:30 we managed to get this, payed for it and were allowed to enter. The wonderful Black Ball Boogie and half of Lovesick was done at this time. But!!! still 4 stars because this is a club that we really enjoyed after all. ... and of course the musicians ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ They could have had higher prices for non-members or what so ever ... We arrived at noontime and came in last 😭😭😭
Peter R — Google review
Small club, great for concerts if your favourite band is playing because you can get a close up view if you go early and stand near the stage. It does get crowded given the size of the joint. The toilets according to my standards are a bit stinky, maybe because they are unisex, for this reason my rating is 3/5 stars. The place can get got, but they have a cloak room at 3 euros or so. By the way don't be surprised if you need to get a membership card (8 euros) for you to get into the club. 😘

Ridiculous pricing for drinks in general. Non alcoholic drinks like Coca Cola for 10€.. really not cool when you pay 25€ entrance fees… We went for an electro night in the smaller disco but unfortunately the sound of the other room was so loud that you could hear 2 floors playing. ⚠️DO NOT GO HERE⚠️i repeat: ⚠️ DO NOT GO HERE⚠️ it’s none existent , it says it’s open on google/apple maps but guess what? it looks like it was hit by an asteroid some time ago, the entire place out front looks abandoned , reduced to literal rubble. plants are dead, woods broken , concretes destroyed. Visiting from Australia i looked for an active club and this one came up, i Walked just over an hour from where i am currently staying to go there … only to find out it looks like no human has been there for some time now , i did a couple laps around the building to be certain, found some signs confirming it was MATIS and i can tell you it does not exist anymore do not waste your time. i triple checked that google claims its “open” on a friday it says 10pm-4am. Well i can assure you at around 11 when i arrived it was dead silent , ghost town, nothing more than a run down old building. so save your time an energy and ⚠️DO NOT GO HERE⚠️ i will provide some photos from the street front view of what i saw.

AVOID!! The bouncers and security are very rude and aggressive. I was talking a video inside and they threw me out and pinned me down and deleted it off my phone. Then when I tried to take a picture of them for evidence of this. They had multiple security guards come after me and beat me til I gave them my phone and deleted it. I want to report to cops and make sure no one else has this experience!

Qubo is a disco club with cocktails, music and dancing on three levels in an old medieval-style building. It's popular among university students and often offers trap, reggaeton, Latin and hip hop genres of music.
Great music. Reasonable ticket price (€13,20) for Millennials event night including a free drink. Mandatory cloakroom for €3.
Anaya B — Google review
A small club right in the city center. The dance floors (main one and another smaller one) are closed, no windows. Therefore the smaller dance floor serves also as a smoking area. If you want to go for a smoke open air, you must go out and then back in. Music and people depend on the event hosted that night, but there's a good international vibe (most Erasmus exchange students or tourists). Overall good vibes here.
G.G. — Google review
Worst place, there is like a really bad service the people is all less kind. They force you to let you clothes off without reason. They said like “boiler room” and there is not techno… the music was really bad. It seems like a restaurant.
Alejandra B — Google review
The place is overrated. The location is great but still the price of the ticket is not worth AT ALL. Also, the music is not always the best. You need to be lucky to find a good dj there. The place is full of lights and it's fun but still, the place is small and there's no place to dance without being pushed. I wouldn't recommend this place, price and quality do not match.
Emilia F — Google review
Club is busy, half the people are not even at legal drinking age yet. I understand the fact that clubs prefer women to get in but this was extreme, all the girls were skipping the que and I'm waiting for more than an hour. Once inside you are force to pay for the cloakroom otherwise you are not getting in. So just to get in we were paying 32bucks in total. Was not worth it.... sad place stay away spend you money elsewhere

Good music, specially if you are from Spain, you will know all the lyrics. Drinks aren't bad but not good for the price though. The inner environment is cool.
Iván V — Google review
Personally the best club in Bologna. Every type of music, depending the day there is reguetton, Tecno, 80-90's and rap. The ticket get it online s few days before. Or in the door arrive 23:30 to be able to get it. Normally it's between 10-15€
Juan P — Google review
I have never been to a more unprofessional, rude clubbing environment than at Qubo. First of all, outside, a bouncer kept rubbing his hands all over me when he walked by, without warrant, and proceeded to later hand me a “free drink” coupon (like that made up for him touching me) which didn’t even work inside. Then upon entering with a group who had a table, the man at the door referred to me as “Barbie” and told me to step back, when I was only asking my friends to grab the owner to clarify (which he did). But after letting me in, he refused to let in all her other girls in my party, and by then the owner was gone so I couldn’t assist them and they left immediately. We paid to have our “coats checked”. (Two leather jackets we didn’t truly need to pay 2 euros to have held but whatever) and downstairs we were groped, given watery drinks and continued to be provided poor service. When we finally had enough, another security gaured literally pointed to the door and said “ciao ciao, leave” when I was trying to assist an obviously drunk girl who was all alone (he took over but it makes me very concerned seeing how I was treated earlier that night). I wouldn’t recommend this club unless you want a dive, trashy experiance that you’ll pay way too much for.

Terrible. Definitely the worst beer in the world. And last night the bouncer who had let me in for an entire year decided to not let me in... because I wasn't a student. What does that even mean? And then I asked him is this a student-only even and he said no it's always like that. to which I responded I have been coming here for a year, what are you talking about? And he said maybe on the weekend. This lunatic has gotten jealous because every time I go there he sees girls talk to me and last time he even tried to disrupt my conversation. Avoid this place. Come on, you can do better than that... even if you live in Bologna.

InCantina is a charming wine bar located in the heart of Bologna's 16th-century ghetto district. It offers a selection of less common local wines sourced from the Enoteca Regionale Emilia Romagna, housed in an atmospheric castle cellar at Dozza. Visitors can try unique wines like Albana DOCG and reds like Centesimino and Burson, accompanied by typical snacks and dishes such as Sangiovese-braised beef.
We have come twice during our stay in Bologna and it has been on our list of top enotecas here. The location is in a quiet street tucked away from the busier streets. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable of their wines. They have made us great recommendations. We came back after our first visit to buy some wine to bring back home. The food is also delicious 😋, it is a pity that portions are small. We highly recommend this enoteca and we hope to make some room to come back before leaving back home.

Amazing spot! Wonderful staff - thanks to Claudio and Francesca for lovely service, small but wonderful menu ( I love this ) we had the green lasagna and roast beef - both delicious and a bit different from everything we had been eating. All of this set in a small adorable space. Definitely recommend.

The best mortadella we had in Bologna and the lasagna was excellent. A charming little restaurant we visited last night, cozy with a great music selection. Highly recommended!
Tina — Google review
The restaurant has nice decorum and feels cozy but I was not that impressed with the menu and the food. The choices in the menu are very very limiting - they also have a seasonal menu so not everything you see in reviews is available at all times. The food was expensive for the quality and taste offered, and even more expensive when considering the portions served (compared to other local restaurants). The lasagna disn’t tasta that good - we had better ragu sauce in Bologna and the potato dish was very dull. The desserts were basically only ice-cream so nothing to really choose from there either. Coperto did not cover any water of bread basket etc. Overall we do not regret eating here but in retrospect I would try other restaurants.

Piazza Maggiore is the main square of Bologna, Italy — and one of the country’s most iconic public spaces. Located in the heart of the historic center, it has been Bologna’s political, social, and cultural hub since the 13th century. Basilica di San Petronio – A massive, unfinished Gothic church dedicated to Saint Petronius, Bologna’s patron saint. It’s one of the largest brick churches in the world. Palazzo d’Accursio (or Palazzo Comunale) – Once the seat of Bologna’s government, now home to the Morandi Museum and the city hall. Palazzo del Podestà and Palazzo Re Enzo – Medieval buildings from the 13th century, when Bologna was an independent commune. Palazzo dei Banchi – A beautiful 16th-century portico closing off the eastern side of the square, connecting to the old market streets.

Architectural Buildings
Neptune's Fountain, also known as the Fountain of Neptune (Fontana del Nettuno), is a stunning 16th-century fountain located in Bologna. This magnificent work of art was created by Giambologna and commissioned to glorify the papal government of Pope Pius IV. The fountain stands in the center of Piazza del Nettuno and features a bronze statue of Neptune atop a pedestal, surrounded by spurting mermaids and four heraldic dolphins representing rivers from different continents.
Great location. Wish I had more time here. Lots of shops and restaurants. During my evening there noticed alot of construction in the area. I assume it's all part of progress. I would definitely recommend this location for dining and shopping. During my visit there was a huge outdoor theater set up for public entertainment.

This fountain is truly a work of art! Perfect place to sit, take in and observe it's beauty. There is a certain calm that washes over one's body while near this fountain.

Neptune’s Fountain is a beautiful landmark right in the heart of Piazza Maggiore. The statue was created in the 16th century by Giambologna and shows Neptune towering over the square as a symbol of power and abundance. The craftsmanship is incredible and the details are striking when you see it up close. The surrounding square is just as impressive, lined with historic buildings that make you feel like you have stepped back into Renaissance Italy. We loved visiting and found it to be a place where history, art, and the daily life of the city all come together. It is definitely one of the highlights of Bologna and worth taking the time to enjoy. If you want the best photos and a quieter atmosphere, visit early in the morning before the crowds arrive.

The Fontana del Nettuno is one of those landmarks that stops you in your tracks—even if you've seen photos before. Set just off Piazza Maggiore, the statue of Neptune commands attention with its bold, confident stance, framed by playful cherubs and powerful sea creatures. Designed in the 16th century by Giambologna, it’s both a symbol of Bologna’s Renaissance ambitions and a striking piece of public art. There’s something magnetic about it—the contrast of flowing water and frozen strength, myth and civic pride. Whether passing by or pausing to take it in, it’s a piece that leaves an impression.

Great sculpture just in the center of Bologna old town. From here you can walk in all directions to have a good time

An intriguing and a bit lewd...the Neptune Fountain in Bologna is a photo op and rest stop if nothing else. Who could miss the opportunity to see the water squirting so playfully? After the giggles take a few minutes and marvel at the work involved in creating the fountain...then think of the whimsy “Pietra della Vergogna” or “Stone of Shame” is the secret of Bologna. Local pride, history and culture all come together in Neptune's Fountain...another work brought to the world by the Medicis.

Perhaps my favorite statue in Italy, and I saw tons of them. You really need to see it to believe it. Photos don't do it justice. I love this city.

Biblioteca Comunale dell'Archiginnasio is a historic building in Bologna that served as the first seat of the University of Bologna. The Anatomical Theatre inside the Archiginnasio provides insight into the early scientific studies of the human body, featuring anatomical models and statues of renowned physicians. The Palazzo dell'Archiginnasio, now housing the municipal library, was constructed in record time to provide a unified space for various academic disciplines.
The whole place is worth visiting, from the 16th century library, to the anatomy theatre, and the whole complex of the Archiginnasio is a something that eery tourist must see in Bologna. The library and it has one of the biggest collections of books and manuscripts in the whole of Italy. The walls of the library, corridors, halls and staircases are covered in thousands of crests which students all over Europe who studied there have left their family crest as a souvenir. I recommend that you purchase tickets before you visit as is a very tourist attraction and a very good price at 3 euros for the library and the anatomy theatre.
Angie O — Google review
We visited the anatomical theatre and the library. We had booked and paid for tickets to the theatre but never received the tickets online. We explained this to the receptionist who initially just wanted to shoosh us away. She was not a great representative of the museum I then asked her if i could show her the email confirming our booking she just tore off two tickets and handed them to us as if we were a massive inconvenience. I had to stifle a laugh when we walked away. We were stubborn in wanting to get in because once you do it is a fascinating building and the library is fantastic and goes on forever. The extra star taken off was for the grumpy lady on reception but the building itself is fantastic.

The Biblioteca Comunale dell’Archiginnasio feels like a hidden sanctuary for lovers of history, books, and silence. Tucked within the grand halls of the former university, it’s easy to miss unless you’re looking for it, but it’s absolutely worth finding. The atmosphere inside is hushed and reverent, with vaulted ceilings, long wooden tables, and the weight of centuries pressing softly around you. Though access is limited to preserve the space, just stepping into the entrance area and seeing the historic reading rooms beyond is enough to appreciate its significance. Housing over 850,000 volumes, the library continues Bologna’s centuries-old tradition of scholarship. It’s not a tourist stop in the usual sense, but if you love old books, scholarly quiet, and timeless architecture, this place will feel like a secret well kept.

The Archiginnasio in Bologna is absolutely worth visiting. It was once the main building of the University of Bologna, the oldest university in Europe, and you can really feel the history inside. The walls are covered with thousands of coats of arms from students and professors, which makes the place feel alive with the memory of centuries of study. The highlight is the Anatomical Theatre, where medical students once learned about the human body. The wooden carvings and statues are incredible and give you a real sense of how advanced the university was for its time. You don’t need much time to visit, but it leaves a lasting impression. If you’re in Bologna, I highly recommend it.

First they didn‘t send the tickets via mail. At least we were allowed to enter the anatomic theatre which was interesting, but I question why they would use a person with a strong accent to narrate the english audiofile. It was quite irritating. And then we couldn‘t enter the other room since we didn’t have out tickets again. Overall meh museum and then a lot of problems. Would not recommend.
Donner F — Google review
Don’t waste your money. You get to see two rooms, and that’s only when they are not in use. Plus you can just walk in off the street through the back stairs and look around anyway. It’s a beautiful building, but not worth paying for!
Barry M — Google review
Very beautiful place, it's 3€ to enter the library and the anatomical theater. Both rooms are very interesting and even the halls connecting them have beautiful paintings on the walls. Also check out the garden first before heading up stairs. I recommend scanning the Qr code for the audio tour, it gives you just a little bit more knowledge about the place. If you don't have earphones or something with you, you can still scan it because they also have everything written down. I didn't buy my tickets in advance and the wait wasn't too bad but I'd still recommend buying them in advance to make it easier for yourself.

Amazing historical place giving an insight into teaching in the 16th century and after. Interesting to see all the coats of arms of those considered to be important who studied here in the past. Although you can't go in the library you can get a glimpse of it through one door, amazing!

Teatro Anatomico is a 16th-century hall that was used for anatomy lectures and dissections, featuring intricate wood sculptures. While witnessing surgeries or autopsies in the past might have been gruesome, the theater's contributions to medical science are significant. Visitors can learn about the university's background and the theater itself from staff and tour guides. The well-preserved museum offers a glimpse into the human body's study, making it a must-see for all town visitors.
We have purchased tickets ahead of our visit to Bologna which I recommend, for everyone to do so, if they wish to see this amazing 16th century cared wood room which they used to teach anatomy in the 16th century. The ticket price is 3 euros and with that you get to visit the library too. The architecture in the whole of Archiginnasio is out of this world. From the two decorative staircases to the coat of arms plaques along the corridors and the court yard the ticket is worth eery penny.
Angie O — Google review
The Palazzo dell’Archiginnasio is one of Bologna’s most fascinating historical sites, and a true celebration of learning. Once the main building of the University of Bologna (the oldest university in the Western world), it’s steeped in scholarly legacy. Walking its arcaded halls, lined with hundreds of colorful family crests, feels like stepping into a living archive of academic history. The real highlight for me was the Teatro Anatomico; an ornate wooden room built in the 17th century for anatomy lectures. It’s both beautiful and eerie, with carved figures of famous physicians watching over the marble dissection table in the center. The detail is stunning, from the coffered ceiling to the “spellati,” flayed human figures carved with unnerving precision. It’s a place where art, science, and curiosity collide. Whether you're into medicine, architecture, or just the unexpected corners of history, this spot offers an unforgettable glimpse into how knowledge was once pursued and performed. Quiet, atmospheric, and intellectually rich.

Oh to be in a historical anatomical theatre! Its an amazing building- the library is unique- make sure to look through the gate. Unfortunately this was badly bombed and rebuilt- but a really good piece of craftsmanship! Unique building decor- Bologna!

Another favourite site in Bologna that’s definitely worth a visit. Dating back to the 16th century it’s amazing to think back and try and understand the amount of great learning that took place here as body’s were dissected in front of students.

The place is beautiful, and the courtyard is unique. However, the paid part includes only two rooms. They are beautiful, but there are only two. On Saturdays, visits are by ticket only, purchased online in advance. We bought our tickets two days prior. Our visit time was 10:10. We arrived at 10:00, and they admitted us at 10:16. When admitted to the first room, we were told we had a maximum of 10 minutes. Then, proceeding to the next room, the ticket checker stopped us and other tourists, stating there would be a conference, and we could not enter. We explained that our tickets were valid for that time, not later, and that we could not reschedule. He suggested we return at 1:00 PM, which was impossible for us. After some discussion, he relented, allowing us "2 minutes." Firstly, we paid, and then we were unable to fully access what we paid for. Even when we entered, the presentation screen obscured the beautiful wall. Why were tickets sold when a conference was scheduled? Very unprofessional, and overall, we had a very bad experience. Regarding the museum itself, it is fine, but there is not much to see. There is almost no text; everything is in Italian. There was only one audio guide, lasting 2 minutes. I do not recommend this museum. Visit the courtyard and save your time for other museums.

Buying tickets? - do not recommend The place is nice, however the paid part doesn't really provide anything. You can freely walk everywhere apart from 2 rooms - a theater and a library, which don't have a lot of description, so you can skip them or glance at the open door

The Basilica of San Domenico in Bologna is a significant historic site with a Romanesque facade and houses the remains of Saint Dominic, the founder of the Dominican order. The church features an array of remarkable artworks by renowned artists such as Guercino, Filippino Lippi, and Ludovico Carracci.
Interesting spot with a lot of history dating back to the 13th century. The Basilica of San Domenico holds a calm atmosphere, with artwork and sculptures that reflect Bologna’s medieval past. It's also the resting place of Saint Dominic, the founder of the Dominican Order, which makes it significant if you're into historical figures. The tomb, crafted by some famous Renaissance artists, is impressive up close. Definitely worth a visit if you’re into history or art and want a quiet break in the city. No entry fee.
Aljosa T — Google review
The Basilica of San Domenico is currently under restoration, so you won’t see the full interior. However, the chapel of St. Dominic is open, and that alone makes the visit worthwhile. Here you’ll find the saint’s sarcophagus and a beautifully decorated Baroque ensemble with painted ceilings and intricate wall details. It’s about a 10-15 minute walk from the city center, easy to reach and not crowded. I even met a local priest giving explanations in Italian to a small group: if you understand the language, that adds an authentic touch. This place is best for those exploring Bologna’s cultural and religious heritage. Believers will appreciate the spiritual significance, while art lovers will enjoy the artistry and Baroque decoration. ⚠️ Practical note: no clear info on how long the restoration will last, so don’t expect to see the basilica in its full scale at the moment.
Anna L — Google review
One of the best known Bolognese churches with the remains of the saint that died in Bologna in 1221 and are placed inside a marble Arc. Also one of the richest in art history. There are a lot of work on it by famous Italian sculpture artists including three by Michelangelo Buonarotti in 1495. There's a wooden choir of Fra masterpiece of Renaissance inlay Damiano da Bergamo, defined by contemporaries as the eighth wonder of the world. which you need to walk through the museum to get too and is one of most beautiful wooden crafts I have seen. Outside in the square of San Domenico is the column of the saint, and the square is paved in small pebbles like it was in the medieval times. Also on the far end of the square are two more tombs with one of the them from the 9th century. The bell tower is 53 metres high in 13th century Gothic style. You can easily spent two to three hours there to see everything.

The Basilica di San Domenico in Bologna is a serene and awe-inspiring place filled with history and artistry. The highlight is the exquisite Ark of Saint Dominic, adorned with sculptures by Michelangelo and other masters. The atmosphere feels peaceful and deeply spiritual, with stunning frescoes and elegant architecture. It’s less crowded than other major sites, allowing time to admire every detail. A must-visit for art and history lovers.

The basilica is Romanic architecture from the 13th century, The remains of saint Dominic are kept inside, he was a founder of Order of preachers. Even Michelangelo was doing some work inside. Saint's remains are in the main chapel inside. Some nice art is kept here too.

Absolutely gorgeous romanic church in Bologna, way less crowded and frequented than San Petronio downtown. We came for the Michelangelo statue, but that was just alright (no David, alas). We stayed for the lovely cloister that sits on the side of the church (pictures attached). It's not very clear how to get there so make sure you check directions or ask attendants.

The Museum for the Memory of Ustica is a historical museum that houses recovered airplane parts and objects from an unsolved crash that occurred in 1980. The exhibit provides a solemn tribute to the victims of the tragedy, where visitors can enter a room below ground level to see the wreckage of the plane. The display serves as a reminder of our human capacity for memory and how it shapes who we are. In addition, Christian Boltanski's installation adds personal depth to the dismantled aircraft.
Heartbreaking yet incredibly beautiful and respectful memorial museum, tastefully shown the story of the plane, and those who tragically lost their lives. And it's free! A must-see on Bologna visits.

Very emotional, and a great idea to remember the lives lost because of the plane crash. They should've put the explanation of the crash in big panels instead of a QR code but there's a movie explaining it a bit and it's a free museum so it's okay.

Andreas-Robert T — Google review
We were searching for places to visit during our trip to Bologna and ended up in this place. It sounded like a very interesting concept, of savaging a plane wreck from the bottom of the sea and reconstructing it. But, after seeing the plane, learning about the events that led to its crash and how the memories of the passengers was honored through 81 breathing light bulbs and 81 black mirrors on the walls, with voices coming from behind them, we were simply blown away. They also have a small presentation video, that runs in a loop, for everyone to see how things went after the crash. It's very sad to think of what happened and how the plane crashed. I think this museum is a eye-watering way of reminding everyone of the past and how everything can end in a blink of an eye.

We paid €10 for a ticket to climb the clock tower. (It included the gallery as well but we couldn't make due to train times.). It was really worth it. We followed the included audio guide from the local tourist website and it gave lots of detail and information. It is quite low in places so watch your head. At the top you sign a waiver as the last set of stairs are treacherous. However it is worth it for the views across Bologna. I would highly recommend this but not if you find stairs difficult.
Paul C — Google review
Confusing details and instructions about the museum and tower tickets. In conclusion you are better off buting the 10€ tower ticket that includes the access to the museum as well. For the tower they are strict with the time interval so be aware of what slot you’re booking. The free audio guide of the tower is informative but the descriptions take too long sometimes. The museum is nice, as well as the public free spaces. The landscape view from above the Piazza Maggiore is a bonus if you reach the top of the tower.

This is one of the historic palaces at Piazza Maggiore. It was originally constructed between 1244-46 and is now named after King Enzo of Sardinia who was held prisoner here after the Battle of Fossalta until his death (1249-72). The palace was last restored in 1905, leaving us with the Gothic style building that we can see today. There is an interesting courtyard (closed to public when we passed by) that you can peer into, a fairly typical Bologna style bell tower and brick facaded exterior. The building is also topped with decorative battlements. You will find bars, a bookshop and a few other businesses fitted into the ground floor of Palazzo Re Enzo. Seems events are held within the palace from time to time as well.

In the beautiful Piazza del Nettuno there is an interesting and beautiful palace, Palazzo Re Enzo. It takes its name from Enzo of Sardinia, Frederick II's son, who was prisoner here, from 1249 until his death in 1272. The palace was built between 1244-1246. as an extension of the nearby Palazzo del Podestà, which had proven insufficient for the exigencies of the Commune of Bologna. It was therefore initially known as the Palatium Novum ("New Palace"). The historical story is extremely interesting but at the same time very sad. Enzo was an illegitimate son of the Hohenstaufen emperor Frederick II, who appointed him 'King of Sardinia' in 1238. He played a major role in the wars between Guelphs and Ghibellines in the creation of Imperial kingdoms of Italy. Enzo was captured 1249 by the Guelphs at the Battle of Fossalta, and after a short stay in Anzola he was moved here, where he remained until his death. Enzo was allegedly left free within the palace by day, but by night he was kept into a cage hanging from the ceiling. He was also allowed to meet women, it is mentioned that he had three daughters, but a legend talks about a fourth son he had with a peasant woman, Lucia di Viadagola. Subsequent history is extremely important and interesting. The son was called Bentivoglio, from the words "Amore mio, ben ti voglio" that he said to his beloved (meaning "My love, I'm fond of you"), and he would be the ancestor of the Bentivoglio family, later rulers of Bologna. The interior of the Palace is beautiful. At the centre of the colonnaded courtyard, there is an ancient sandstone well, while on the right-hand side you will find the ancient Chapel of St. Mary of Prisoners, which was recently restored and decorated by British artist David Tremlett. On the first floor from the loggia, the Salone del Podestà is accessed through a covered passageway and a majestic solid wood door. The spacious Salone del Podestà, which was once a courtroom, was used as a Public Theatre between 1581 and 1767 (the second version of the Euridice was performed here in 1616) and later became a court for ball games. Beautiful Sala re Enzo is located on the second floor of the building and covers around 400 sqm.

Museo di Palazzo Poggi is a 16th-century palazzo located at the University of Bologna, housing an eclectic collection of science exhibits and adorned with stunning frescoes by renowned painters. Originally established as the Institute of Sciences and Arts in 1711, it now showcases rich collections dedicated to various subjects such as geography, navigation, military architecture, physics, natural history, chemistry, human anatomy, and obstetrics.
As a museum lover, singlehandedly the best museum I’ve ever visited! Something for everyone and such unique exhibits. The museum and university’s history could be felt in the air; these exhibits aren’t curated for sales, they’re discoveries of scientists from the past. Museo di Palazzo Poggi is one of Bologna’s most fascinating and unexpected museums. Tucked inside a former university palace, it’s a beautifully curated mix of science, art, anatomy, and exploration. One minute you're looking at Renaissance maps and navigation tools, the next you're in a room full of anatomical wax models or early obstetric training figures—equal parts eerie and amazing. The space itself is elegant, with frescoed ceilings and grand halls that make the displays feel even more surreal. It’s the kind of place where curiosity leads the way, and every room holds something surprising. A must for anyone who loves history with a twist of the weird and wonderful.

The International Museum and Library of Music is housed in an ornate 16th-century palace adorned with frescoes. It features a remarkable collection of musical instruments and books. The museum offers visitors a unique experience, paying homage to the memory of Aerolinee Itavia flight 870, which tragically crashed over Sicily in 1980. The museum provides a comprehensive overview of the tragedy and its societal impact, serving as a place for contemplation, reflection, and seeking truth.
This is a superb museum, if you are at all interested in the history of music.- in fact it's a must. The exhibits are absolutely fascinating, some quite breathtaking, and mostly marked in Italian and German. Well worth a visit!!

A stunning setting which houses some great musical artefacts. However, the museum is quite small, and it lacks the immersive aspect; there is no musical aspect in a music museum. It is definitely well-kept, and a beautiful place to visit, but I wouldn’t recommend having it at the top of your attractions list (unless you are an absolute music fanatic). We only visited because it was free and not crowded, and there are definitely greater attractions in Bologna.

Small but very nice exhibition, well decorated. It's an elegant story about the solo contribution of Mr. Martini (if I'm not mistaken the name) on collecting and organising the history of music in his period. I would not claim it "international music museum" as it's misleading. The atmosphere is more of a gallery rather than a music museum where you have music played in all rooms. There is no interactive part, no translations in English on the labels and we haven't been proposed to the option of audio guide even though some icons suggest it. The interior design of the building is very nice and compliments the elegant atmosphere. The lady on the entrance was very charming and positive. The ticket of 5 euro is ok for the place.

It was very interesting to see old musical instruments, to find out more about the famous musicians. Very quiet museum, not very many visitors.
Sviatlana H — Google review
The museum was interesting. It had some beautiful displays. Free entry for students (not only studying in Italy) but you must have some kind of proof for that.

The Museo Internazionale e Biblioteca della Musica in Bologna offers a rich collection for those interested in music related historical information, books, and musical instruments. While the library section’s exhibitions are limited and the number of instruments on display is modest, the museum houses notable pieces such as the unique Clavemusicum by Vito Trasuntino (Venice, 1606) and the Archicembalo designed by Nicola Vicentino around 1555. Additionally, the museum features a significant collection of portraits initiated by Padre Giovanni Battista Martini, depicting prominent figures from the music world.

A wonderful museum of music, antique through 19th century instruments, scores, contemporaneous paintings of musicians including composers and singers. Serious musicians study at U of Bologna. Well laid out. Harpist played throughout our tour. Audio available, senior and student discounts. €4 for adults, €3 for seniors. Great fun! Museum up one floor of stairs, may be elevator.
Margo — Google review
Visited because it is included in the bologna card. Housed in the historic Palazzo Sanguinetti, the museum showcases an impressive collection of musical instruments and manuscripts. The beautifully decorated rooms enhance the experience, making it both educational and visually stunning.

The Museum of San Colombano - Tagliavini Collection is a beautifully restored church with original frescoes and a medieval crypt discovered in 2007. It features an impressive collection of over 80 musical instruments, including harpsichords, pianos, and oboes dating back to the 1500s that are still in working condition. The museum regularly hosts free concerts and is known for its photogenic appeal.
Absolutely AMAZING museum. They have really beautiful and interesting instruments, in a wonderful building. I highly recommend this for anyone, especially (but not only) musicians!
Ben D — Google review
Quite confusing layout and the audioguides are rendered inaudiable if anyone else is speaking in the room. I guess it proves how great the acoustics of the rooms are. The museum has many rare instruments and frescoes - one early Medieval in the crypt and many Baroque ones by the school of the Carracci. They were all right but not as good like those in the Museo di Palazzo Poggi. The museum was pretty low on my priority list but if you understand music better than I do, then you will probably have a better visit.
Suzanna O — Google review
I liked this Museum more than Museo Internazionale and Biblioteca della Music as the instruments were more colorful. The palace, where the museum is, was made on the old church of Saint Colombano probably from 616 AD, there are beautiful frescoes on the walls and some ruins downstairs. I am not so interested in the musical instruments, but they were so beautifully painted and so old. Don't forget to ask about free audio guide :) With Bologna Welcome Card Easy you will enter here free of charge. You need about 1 hour to see everything with rather slow pace :)

An amazing collection of instruments from nearly 500 years ago, in a beautiful classic building in the heart of bologna. There's a lot of potential for this collection, and I just think it's a travesty to have these machines collected in one place, no longer serving their purpose of making music! As a visitor you can listen to recordings of the instruments on your phone, but I found it very difficult to resist the urge to play them and hear the acoustics in real life! Surely there is a small robot that could be built that allows guests to hear these things in all their glory? The temperature made it hard to stay in one place, and we were followed around by a lady working there which made us feel a bit uncomfortable.

Recommend! A lovely little music museum. The staff is friendly and polite. Interesting and beautiful pieces. The creations is done in a loop so you don't end to go back and forth!
Marina K — Google review
Beautiful museum in an old church. Focused on keyboard instruments such as clavichords, organs and pianos with some very interesting odd pieces thrown in. The collection is definitely worth seeing.
Edward O — Google review
Ancient church that now houses a collection of musical instruments. I went to the museum, which was a great visit, since it's a really beautiful place. They also have frequent evening concerts
Julia B — Google review
Impressive collection of historical instruments. I consider this a hidden gem in Bologna, as it's not appreciated as it should be. You don't have to be musical to appreciate these art pieces.
