Chelmsford Museum is a free-admission museum located in a Victorian house with a modern extension, offering insights into the local history and culture. The city also boasts the Hylands Estate, which hosts various children's activities, as well as other attractions like the Essex Police Museum, Stock Windmill, and Essex Outdoors for adventure activities. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore RHS Garden Hyde Hall or swing through treetops at Go Ape Chelmsford in Hylands Park.
From Iron age, Roman and Anglo- Saxon archaeology via regimental history, Marconi and Suzy Quattro's 5 string bass and jump suit, they fit a lot in here in modern displays in a nice old house. Cafe is very popular with locals for obvious reasons. Excellent day out. Happy to see "Chelmsford 123" made an appearance in the Roman gallery too. Staff helpful, decent gift shop and clean facilities.
John D — Google review
A delightful museum where the focus on the Roman presence in Chelmsford makes up quite an interesting part of the place. Chelmsford also being the birthplace of radio means there's a fascinating learning space to understand and digest said information and it's hugely informative. Other exhibits focus on the city's role during the war (the mannequins here are excellent) as well as educational films about how Chelmsford came to be - do look out for the room detailing the complete timeline as well as snippets of facts about this storied city as well as the notable characters that shaped it all. Plenty for the kids to get stuck into and all of it is free! Would definitely recommend.
Sadek M — Google review
It's a very good spot to visit with kids, especially if you want to learn about British history as well. There are sections of the natural museum, Marconi inventions, the Essex army regiment, and a drawing and history area of prehistoric, Anglo-Saxon, Roman, and modern sections. Half a day is enough. There is a park in front for a picnic and a play area at the back for children. There is a cafe on site.
Abdullah R — Google review
Great place to visit. Super friendly staff. It is a tad small but it’s got lovely things to see. It was nice and quiet when we visited. Definitely would recommend getting there early to get a car spot in the car park. There is a toilet at the car park and in the museum
Mel C — Google review
Great place for all. Well spent time exploring Chelmsford history.
Farhan R — Google review
A lovely, free to access museum situated within the beautiful grounds of Oaklands Park. It's got a great selection of local history to see and interact with. The kids especially like the live bees hive they have on the first floor that allows access through the exterior wall. (The bees have been here since I was a little girl too, yet the museum has come along way over the years). They have a small museum shop at the entrance too, aswell as a donation box. There's free parking on site, although beware on weekdays there's a limited parking time allowance of two hours. With public toilets nearby and an excellent cafe with inside seating and outside tables to enjoy the sunshine, whilst overlooking the large parks situated at the back, you can easily enjoy a cuppa whilst keeping an eye on the children. This all makes for a lovely, low cost afternoon out with the family on a sunny day.
Maxie O — Google review
Wow! What a wonderful place! We visited for the first time today, and to be truthful, I didn't know what to expect, but I have to say, I was very impressed, by everything! First, you get two free hours of on site parking, second the grounds of the Museum are lovely; grass, trees, picnic benches and tables, and great play areas for the kids. There is also a nice-looking cafe with both indoor and outdoor seating. The Museum building itself is also very attractive, inside and out and the exhibits are wonderful! So much to see and many hands on, activities for both adults and children! This has got to be my Chemlsford 'happy place!' I can't wait to go back! Lovely staff too! 😉

Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Churches & Cathedrals
Chelmsford Cathedral, originally the Church of St Mary the Virgin, has a rich history dating back to the 11th century. Over its 800-year existence, it has undergone numerous renovations and extensions. Despite being one of the smallest cathedrals in the country, it boasts stunning Perpendicular Gothic stonework in its nave and chancel. The cathedral hosts various events such as music recitals, craft fairs, exhibitions, concerts, and family activities throughout the year.
It was my first time visiting the Cathedral and I was really struck. This is such a numinous place, a safe haven at the heart of the city. It is full of light and it’s truly welcoming. Highly recommend a visit.
Joseph F — Google review
While I was walking around this area I decided to visit this lovely Cathedral for the first time. I never went into the church itself just as far as the hallway. Magnificent architecture.
David W — Google review
Absolutely wonderful Cathedral. The Chapel of St Peter is a quiet corner to sit and pray. The memorial rolls of those lost in the wars give the chapel a very serene feeling.
David R — Google review
The beautiful Cathedral is almost hidden from view as you navigate the busy pavements around Shire Hall and up through Tindal Square. Glimpse of the flint exterior appear between the old buildings and down medieval lanes. Is a fairly small Cathedral, the elegant but modest spire is barely visible above the shops and offices. We visited last week during an art exhibition. The high ceiling was filled with an inflatable model of Mars with detailed NASA imagery on its surface. Linking it with the Roman god of war, the artist included exhibitions on local regiments and soundtracks including recordings of conflict and fighting. There seem to be plenty of staff and volunteers on hand to talk about the building, exhibition and future events. Well worth visiting, on any normal day or during an event.
David — Google review
Beautiful Cathedral, very well kept. It’s a must visit if you’re in the area!
Roy M — Google review
We have visited Chelmsford Cathedral on a number of occasions for various events. It's not the biggest, and only became a cathedral in 1914 but still has a great deal of history. Of particular interest to me is a dedication to a scout that lost his life trying to save a fellow scout.
Mark G — Google review
Such a beautiful place! They had the Mars exhibition on which was so interesting. Staff were very friendly & helpful
Georgina B — Google review
A beautiful Cathedral. I've been several times for different events. This time it was to watch a free Friday lunchtime choir concert. The space is amazing and the staff/volunteers are extremely helpful and friendly. Toilets are available, as are refreshments. There is no parking on site but Waterloo Lane car park is just a short walk away.

The Essex Police Museum in Chelmsford is an educational and archival space that showcases a wide array of documents, artifacts, objects, and photos related to the local history. The museum aims to preserve the history of the Essex Police force and enhance public awareness by collecting, preserving, and displaying relevant materials. Visitors can explore a Victorian cell, browse through historical Charge Books, try on real police uniforms, and experience getting their fingerprints collected in a police-style manner.
It's a great little museum. It's a shame that cannot be made bigger with more memorabilia. The museum guide, Hannah was excellent in accommodating visitors and children with showing items and engaging with the needs of children.
Alison C — Google review
It's Saturday 7th September. They have the date on their website as a date with a trail. It's not open. Lights all off, doors locked, and noone around. It's 13:30. What an utter waste of my time and my 3 year old is extremely disappointed. We have traveled from Colchester.
R W — Google review
Nice little museum, free to enter, but donations welcome. Cheap little gift shop there. The museum is small but interesting.
Heather E — Google review
We happened to be going past on a Saturday and decided to go and have a look. (We had talked about it many times before!) There is a car park outside which is free and the museum itself is free to enter. The museum is small but they have crammed a fair amount in, and made it as friendly as possible for the small people visiting. Your not likely to be there hours, but its certainly worth a look if in the area. Kids particularly enjoyed doing their fingerprints and using a light and magnifying glass to look at the displays!
Andrew C — Google review
It's very small but fun. Staff friendly and helpful. Free car park. Has a small souvenir shop. I really enjoyed visiting this museum with my little family. We probably spent less then an hour here but in this time we; tried on police uniform, solved a crime, took our own fingerprints, found jewellery, coloured in, played with toys and of course found out a little bit about police history.
Neri H — Google review
We finally went to the police museum for the first time despite having lived here for 10 years. My daughter absolutely loved it and it was a really welcoming atmosphere for the children. The exhibits are really interactive and encourage the children to get hands on with things. They can try on uniforms, stand in a witness box, have their fingerprints taken. The museum also put on a lot of activities for children young and old.
Brogan J — Google review
This was an interesting place to visit, they have done their best with the small space they have. My niece and I enjoyed it also it was free. The lady who helped made us feel very welcome and nothing was to much trouble.

High Chelmer Shopping Centre is a significant commercial hub in Chelmsford, attracting many visitors who come for the diverse shopping experience it offers. Located conveniently in the town center, just a short walk from the train station, this expansive center houses a wide range of stores catering to various preferences and budgets.
High Chelmer was very busy. We had a good time. The drinks were mega big. Shopping was good. We had a good time choosing Christmas presents etc. ❤️ 👍 We continued to look for more presents - just in case....

Our first visit as we were at Party in the Park yesterday. Nice shopping area, lots of places to eat and drink. The Car park wad a bit tricky for parking, too many concrete pillars and very tight spaces because of this😅
Maureen S — Google review
It’s clean, the staff are friendly and there’s a great selection of products and stores. I went on Friday evening and it wasn’t too crowded. I definitely recommend this shopping centre
Kateryna B — Google review
A place lots of surprises. You would find Costa coffee, Starbucks, primary, Deichmans, boots, 3 mobile, bodycare(shop now closing down) Next, River island,Deichmann, super dry fashion shop, opticians and many more. It’s great for a shop therapy experience😂
Emmanuel K — Google review
Please note this review focuses on the centre of Chelmsford - not the mall exactly… As first impressions go, I liked the vibe and feel that Chelmsford have to offer. I’m giving 3 stars now but fully intend to revisit and experience the city in its fullest - where upon I’ll likely up my score to 4 or 5. I liked the sporadic displays of street art about the place and the contemporary feel that the town planners have clearly considered in the construction of the place. What’s more - I noticed that the town have clearly put up Halloween decorations for the complete Autumn feel - nice touch I say.
Mark N — Google review
I personally think that High Chelmer Shopping centre is excellent and amazing you have a excellent selection of shops and store and restaurants and cafes to choose from also there is a nice river to look at

Hylands Park is a historic and expansive park located on the outskirts of Chelmsford, Essex. It features beautiful gardens, a neo-classical villa, a stable, and artists' studios. The park is known for hosting various festivals and summer fairs, making it an ideal destination for visitors looking to immerse themselves in cultural events. Families can enjoy the playground area with its impressive wooden adventure castle structure and activities suitable for children of all ages.
Came here for the National Flower Show, The gardens are very well-kept. Lots of stalls selling plants, food and drink, different crafts and garden furniture. The house inside looked beautiful with all the flower displays. A great day out, lots of plants bought and garden bits.
T R — Google review
We had a wonderful day at Hylands Park! It’s such a beautiful and spacious place, perfect for families. The kids loved the adventure castle play area, and there’s so much open space to run, play, and explore. The gardens are lovely for a stroll, and it’s a great spot for a picnic or just enjoying the fresh air. A perfect family day out surrounded by nature! 🌳☀️🏰
Ms C — Google review
It's a beautiful park, and the scenery is absolutely beautiful. We enjoyed it there; unfortunately, due to the weather, we didn't get to look around.
Stacy — Google review
Beautiful large open space with massive veteran oak trees, wide open space for ball games and family get-togethers. They also have a fantastic large play park for the kids that looks like a castle and is all made from wood. It’s located close to the car park and toilets. Good clean toilet facilities. They also have a large pleasure garden which is well cared for with established plants, duck pond and seasonal bedding plant displays. I particularly like the cafe where you can sit inside, or they have lots of outdoor seating for dog walkers. You can get coffee and snacks, or they do really nice fancy brunch and lunch options. You can park at the other car park right next to the cafe and shops if you don’t want to walk far- it’s very close to the pleasure gardens too. I love how wide open this place is for my kids as they can run and ride their bikes and have plenty of freedom. There are also geocaches on the site of that’s your interest.
Stephanie D — Google review
Had a lovely evening at the safari drone show, very clever. The only thing I would say, going on and getting parked was well done but there could have been a little more direction when leaving. But the show, food and entertainment were very good.

Came for national flower show . And what a show. So many exhibitors, so many beautiful things on show. Beautiful place to visit. Grounds surrounding Hyland House are pretty. Visited the cafe, food was nice. Visited the Adventure Playground, kids loved it.
Leah W — Google review
Went here for the open house and food market. Lots of stools with plenty of food and drink along with arts and craft stools. This time, the market was on the back field which was good due to all the open space.
Danny W — Google review
Open day at the house was good, downstairs is open for anyone to view once a month with activities going on. On open days there are food stalls and a few other stalls, a DJ and live music. Gets very busy. £5 parking for all day which is great especially as you won't get that anywhere else. The grounds are nice to have a walk too. Spring is springing now. Lovely place and one of my favourites.

Central Park in Chelmsford is a versatile mixed-use park offering something for everyone. It features sports pitches, children's play areas, a nature reserve, and a picturesque lake with geese and swans. The park also boasts the impressive Central Park Viaduct, which spans 18 arches and adds to the park's charm. Visitors can enjoy moments of tranquility along the north bank of the River Can or grab a bite at the Cake at the Lake cafe on the south shore.
This park is beautiful and has lots of picnic space. Children's up to 12 years of age, closed/gated/fenced playground with many fun things to do. Large pong with fountains, there is a cafe with drinks and outside seating, basketball and tennis court, skating area, and a few benches, or attend one of the many concerts in the park! Chill next to the river or take a stroll with a 5-minute walk to the city centre and high street, or go to the gym for a workout/sauna/steam room/pool or softplay for the little ones. I like to sit on the grass on dry and warmer days and remenice. You can watch the trains come into Chelmsford station or play ping pong on the two tables next to the playground. You may be a cricket fan and check out the cricket programmes. There are many roses and the park is well kept. Enjoy! 🌻⭐️🌞🌈

Theaters
Chelmsford Theatre is a modern 500-seat venue with an adjoining studio space, conveniently located in the city center near the train and bus station. It hosts a variety of entertainment including drama, musicals, film screenings, comedy shows, live gigs, and touring productions. The theatre features two auditoriums, pre-show and interval bars, as well as a daytime cafe. Surrounding the theatre are restaurants and bars for pre or post-show dining.
We've been here a couple of times to see shows with our kids. The theatre is small enough that any seat is a decent seat, and has booster seats available to help kids get a clear view of the stage. On this occasion, we saw Dino World and both my 4.5 and 1 year old absolutely loved it. It was very exciting, engaging, and funny for them. The place was clean, the atmosphere was welcoming, and the events were fairly priced. We will look out for future shows here.
S W — Google review
Small theatre, but cosy with it. At time of visit none of the coffee machines or taps where working so not a great start. Limited food options, would visit again but needs some attention to detail.

Great venue, easy to park in Fairfield Road CP (only £2.50 all night after 6pm), reasonably priced food & drink plus some amazing acts. I tend to go for the tribute bands who are always good value.

I have been visiting the Civic Theatre for many years as a local resident, many tribute nights and comedy leaving a mark on my memory. This is my first visit after their refurbishment. A dramatic improvement of decor & exterior fittings make this feel a much classier venue. Contrasting colours and better fixtures bring this theatre into the 21st Century. Seating is standard folding theatre fare with armrests, no discomfort after leaving from a fun packed show. The toilets are the biggest improvement and they're to be commended on the finished product.

Fantastic theatre experience with so many different shows for all kinds of tastes. Really welcoming for new members interested in taking part in all aspects of theatre.

Last night, I had the pleasure of attending CTW’s mesmerizing production of 'Things I Know To Be True.' With little prior knowledge of the play, I found myself swept away by its poignant exploration of family, love, relationships, dynamics, and loss. The cast delivered exceptional performances, each character portrayed with depth and authenticity that resonated deeply with the audience. Throughout the performance, there was a visible sense of connection as the audience were drawn into the raw emotion and compelling story unfolding on stage. Don't miss the opportunity to experience this unforgettable production before it ends tomorrow!

First time here, to see Arcadia by Tom Stoppard - thoroughly enjoyed the show. Bum a little numb after 3 hours, but chairs comfortable enough. Toilets and foyer area all clean. Very good venue. Appreciated the air conditioning as it was a very warm summer's evening outside. Staff and volunteers should be very proud of what they achieve here.

Sandford Mill Museum is a charming local establishment that showcases an innovative selection of displays centered around science, nature, and industry. While typically not accessible to the general public, visitors can explore this site either during open days or by contacting Chelmsford Borough Council. Situated on the River Chelmer, the mill used to function as Chelmsford's waterworks and has been transformed into a repository for various industrial artifacts.
Visited as part of the Sumner of science but the museum was open with all the wonderful volunteers enthusing the children to learn about radio, television techniques and other boys and pieces including resistance.

This museum is rather special. I say that, as a kid age nine, the hut was in the field at Kings Road School. It was our changing room, and games kit store. the same hut is not at this museum. I passed by all the Marconi stuff as a kid, so seeing Sandford Mill jam packed with the City's past is incredible. So much to do and see. BUT, public can only visit on Open days, see website for dates..
Mike D — Google review
A treasure-trove of industrial and technological history, from millstones to Marconi's groundbreaking work. Open by appointment for schools and well worth a visit for a hands-on educational experience. A wonderful team of volunteers share knowledge and enthusiasm. Look out for Open Days! This is a hidden gem, worthy of investment and wider publicity.
Rose M — Google review
A very nice museum to visit. Its very educational and great to see they have an amateur radio station operating there as its the birth place of radio. A great day out and well worth a visit.
Michael M — Google review
They should have let people know that Summer of Science is by online pre-booking ONLY! If you turn up with cash, like we did, you'll be turned away, like we were, with disappointed children. If they are going to change the system so dramatically they should make it abundantly clear on the web-site AND the posters. I WILL NEVER GO TO SANDFORD MILL MUSEUM AGAIN AFTER THIS TOTAL FIASCO!

Fascinating place but only open a few days each year e.g. during Heritage Week. Contains the original Marconi Hut and lots of historical equipment.

The venue is also popular for hosting fundraising events and can be hired for special occasions like birthdays and weddings. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a delightful tearoom on-site while exploring historic sites around Galleywood.
Lovely place to visit. Has been refurbished over the last few years to good effect. Nice to look back at some of the historic places around Galleywood. It also houses a great tearoom where you can get a mug of tea and a bacon roll for £3.20! There is also the remains of a Napoleonic Fort just across the way from the centre. Best check for opening hours before you visit.

Located on a retail park east of Chelmsford, AirHop Adventure Park (formerly known as Jump Street) is a remarkable trampoline park. The facility boasts an expansive floor covered entirely in trampolines, providing a safe and energetic source of fun for children and adults alike. While adults can engage in low-impact cardio workouts during fitness classes, the main allure of AirHop Adventure Park lies in its array of activities tailored specifically for kids.
My 6 year old son absolutely loves this place. It has jumping, climbing and soft play under one roof. Staff is very friendly, competent and professional. It is great option and place for birthday parties as well. I highly recommend this place 👍
Shahzad A — Google review
A great place to bring kids of all ages. We had a 4 year old, and a 10,11 & 13 year old and was trying to find something that suited them all. I was confused by the website as I thought there must be a price to just do everything but there wasn’t, so we didn’t book in advance like advised.. and was lucky to still get in last minute. They should definitely have a deal that is everything included rather than bits here and there. We ended up paying for the jump and climb combo for the older ones and the jump and soft play for the younger one. If you haven’t got grip socks, you will need to buy some there which isn’t a bad price considering it’s like a souvenir to take home. There was a jug of water and cups at the side of both climbing walls and trampolines for people to help themselves to which was good. We ordered some drinks and snacks through the app to order to the table by soft play and it seemed to take a long time for them to come? I had to give one of the kids money to get something from the vending machine whilst we waited, and something got stuck, so I had to ask for help at the main desk. They were quick and helpful with that. When it came to climbing, we were left a bit confused as to whether we were supper to wait and let someone strap the kids up with the equipment or whether you were suppose to do it yourself which I thought couldn’t be right because of safety. I had to go ask someone. They didn’t really look like they knew what they were doing when it came to putting on the harness.. luckily someone else came along and took over. It said supervisor on their back which made me feel better.. but then there wasn’t really much information given by them. It was lots of sitting and waiting and then they finally said just another 15mins and we’ll start the video you need to watch. More signs and communication would have been nice. There was about 32 climbing walls that were included in the jump and climb, they’re pretty good to be honest. The kids started off a bit scared at first, then built up the courage to get to the tops, trying different ones. The toilets needed attending to as they were gross, even the kids said they were dirty. Overall it was a good day out. We spent longer here than I thought we would.. but it definitely needs more attention and staffing in certain areas. Also, Could have done with another member of staff on the air slides, as there was just one member of staff that had to close one and open the other and then gonna to the other one when a child asked.
Sharne T — Google review
I had an absolute ball at this place .. I am 51 and was with my 12 year old niece! Climbing and Jumping! Super fun! The slide was ace too!

2hrs of great fun. Lots to do, the slide, basketball and dodge arena being hot spots. Have done clip and climb too and loved it! Went on a Sunday but didn’t feel at all crowded. Helpful staff and clean toilets. Also free lockers to put your belongings.

Visited for the first time with my eldest daughter and her 2 younger siblings fir her birthday treat. Was impressed from the minute we pulled up in the car park. Plenty of spaces baring in mine it was a Saturday during summer holidays. I side is clean fresh and modern, good music and smelt of sweet cherries My 3 children are all extremely sensory with socks but didnt complain at all about their jump socks. We booked in advance for the family 90 minute jump session followed by a full climb session for the 2 girls and an hour in the soft play with my 4yr old son so check in was very quick and easy. They all had a brilliant time. There was so much for then to do. Highlight of the afternoon for them was being able to help themselves to a variety of different flavour slushy drinks.
Kay T — Google review
Visiting from Manchester and this was recommended by my sister. I must say, very good facilities for all ages! It does get very busy, but the size of the establishment means they are able to cater for the people attending. Car parking is first come first serve, so I’d recommend coming just before the hour marks to catch people leaving. Also, do everyone a favour and fill out your wavers online before coming.
Warren C — Google review
Wanted to take my nephew who uses a wheelchair to this place. Turned up to see large steps with no ramp to enter the building. Went inside to ask and they have a ramp that can be used one step at a time. This is a barrier to even enter the building. Unfortunately I would not recommend this place for wheelchair users. It's a shame, we couldn't even enter to enjoy the the activities inside.
Roseline F — Google review
Fantastic play centre with lots of activities. Staff are friendly and venue is clean and well ventilated so kids don't get too hot. Would have given 5 stars but vending machines for drinks is cash only but wouldn't accept cash and having to 'upgrade' wristbands to use equipment in the same area was a bit of a con in my opinion.

Ninja Warrior UK Chelmsford is an exciting attraction suitable for children aged 5 and above, with a particular appeal to older kids and teens. Younger participants must be accompanied by a paying adult. The venue offers a mix of challenging courses inspired by the popular TV show, as well as inflatable runs. Visitors can enjoy navigating the course at their own pace, although it may be too difficult for younger children. The inflatable area provides great fun and entertainment for kids.
Best place iv taken my youngest to by far The staff couldn't do enough for us always ready to help and showed us around. Paul was very helpful with all my questions. The place had a really good happy friendly feel to it. Everyone was happy to help in any way they could. Plus the inflatable area for the toddlers was really good my daughter loved it here.

First time at Ninja warrior with my two little ones (7 and 8) and they’ve had a blast. We knew in advance that they were not quite tall enough for some of the ninja course but there was still more than plenty to keep them occupied. We had the hour session. It would probably go for the extended session on a rainy day. The venue is clean and well maintained and staff all seemed friendly, helpful and welcoming. Will definitely be returning.

We've come here a number with our 2.5yr old for the weekday morning toddler sessions. Honestly, you cannot fault the staff, they are always really friendly and seems genuinely keen to make sure you and the kids have a good time. My little boy loves it here, not only for the bouncing but for the array of toys they put out for the kids. You always get offered a hot drink included in the very reasonable price too. Absolutely worthy of 5 stars - excellent staff, great price, lovely atmosphere. 👍

Lovely experience on Saturday at Chelmsford and the staff there are very lovely. My family and I attended Ninja warrior in Chelmsford last week and I just felt it really deserved a review! We were staying nearby at Walton-on-the-Naze and thought this would be something all the family would enjoy. For context we have a 15, 10,7, 3 and 8 month old. Right from the get go we were shown a warm welcome and given lots of useful information. Massive shout out to Paul who went above and beyond, nothing was to much trouble and he was friendly and helpful towards myself and all the family. We were concerned how my autistic son would deal with the transition between the tots session and the older ones session but Paul was happy for him to join in as it was quiet and this was so helpful. We all had a brilliant day, the facilities were great and there was something for everyone, even the baby! I would highly recommend visiting here! Thank you all at Ninja warrior ❤️

Admirals Park and Tower Gardens is a well-maintained urban green space in Chelmsford, offering a range of activities for visitors. The park features playgrounds, picnic areas, and sports facilities, making it ideal for walking, cycling, or skating. With its open greens and a river running through the park, it provides a picturesque setting for picnics at any time of the day.
Lovely park that stretches from the edges of Writtle/Rainsford Road through to the Town Centre via Central Park which joins up with Admirals Park. The park has lovely well-kept flower bed and trees particularly around Tower Gardens, a play-area for kids, toilets (near Tower Gardens) and lots of different areas to walk or have picnics. Plenty of benches in the park to sit and full of people during the day/early evening so feels safe during daylight. Lots of dog-walkers and people heading into town and back. It also has a bowling green near the entrance by St Fabians Drive as well as tennis courts. Further into the park (which is then central park) nearer the town and by the viaduct there is a café near the duck pond as well as another play area and more tennis courts.

A great charity firework display hosted by the Rotary Club. A lot of people attended this display. Maybe more fairground rides would have added to the occasion as the queues were very long for the two bigger rides. Couldn't see any places selling good coffee either. Other than that the fireworks and entertainment were very good. Fireworks lasted for 15 minutes and everyone enjoyed the main event. Well done to everyone that organised and manned this event.

I visited here a few weeks ago to see Justin Timberlake in concert. He was absolutely fantastic, giving a great performance and was brilliant live. Jess Glynn was his supporting act, and i have to say that although I'm not a great fan of hers, she too was brilliant live and has now changed my mind! Parking, however, was a nightmare. It took us 3 hrs to get into the venue, and that's because I had a disabled badge. This caused us to miss the start of Jess Glynn. Trying to get out of the venue was beyond a nightmare!!! Yes, it was disorganised. Yes, the young Marshalls just stood there rather than directing traffic, and yes, they never employed enough people. But what made it so damn dangerous was the behaviour of the general public. I witnessed countless rows, a fight, and had 6 cars almost take my car out, where they were so aggressive!!! One woman moved the barriers, threatened staff and a guy, and wacked my car with her door, getting out of it. Her behaviour was disgusting, but she didn't give a shit!!! I know a lot of people were blaming the racecourse, but the organisers were to blame for the shambles!!! For those members of the general public who behaved like animals. You should be ashamed of your behaviour!!! I'm just glad that no one was run over. It's a real shame as it put a massive dampner on the night. Would i go to see JT again? HELL YEAH!

Went on green king day . A party ofx15 if us including 90 year old . Made to walk round uneven ground to entrance .so with high heels on very uncomfortable, and for the 90 year old not good to walk all the way round . Got the golf buggy for 90 year old to the grandstand from the entrance which was good . Good variety of food and drink quite expensive but only to be expected . Found a table for us all where their was fake grass so good underfoot...we was their early so could get a good table. Easy to put bets on. Toilet was kept spotless through the day . Disco after in one of the tents ..but as coach was picking us up at 6 main carpark thought we better maje way back. When 90 year old was waiting for buggy for 25min and the que was really long.(to me most people didn't need the buggy and was being lazy) we was going to be late for our coach so 90year old walked back to main car park so definitely need to look into how they can manage this better .

Lathcoats Farm is a delightful destination for families and animal lovers. The farm offers a variety of activities, including fruit picking and a great pumpkin patch. Visitors can enjoy interacting with different animal species, observing how they are fed, and learning about their habits. The Bee Shed Coffee House provides a relaxing environment to savor excellent coffee, tea, homemade cakes, English breakfasts, light lunches, and afternoon tea. Additionally, there's a tempting children's platter available for younger guests.
We went apple picking at this farm yesterday and had a lovely time with my daughter . There were lots of apples and many different varieties to choose from. The grounds are very well maintained, making the whole experience even nicer. Afterward, we enjoyed some coffee and visited the farm shop, which was a great addition. Parking was easy too — they have two lots, one for shorter stays and one for longer, with plenty of spaces available. The small zoo on-site was a wonderful surprise, with alpacas, pigs, donkeys, goats, and even black sheep. Seasonal flowers were blooming all around, which made the farm feel vibrant and welcoming. Overall, it’s a clean, family-friendly place with so much to see and do. We’ll definitely be back!

Great day out at Lathcoats Farm Halloween event. We enjoyed the Halloween Hunt around the orchard with some stickers and an activity card. We then booked to go to the pumpkin patch. They have such a great range of pumpkins with lots of games and activities. We had a lovely lunch at the Bee Shed. The staff were doing great job as it was very busy and lots of food being ordered. We waited about 20mins but we arrived at the busiest time. Food was really nice and lots of empty plates. We spend the last hour seeing the animals and enjoying the tractors. A great morning out and I would recommend it highly.

We recently attended Apple Day here and had a lovely time. We purchased three types of apple juice (Meridian, Honeycrisp, and Kidd's Orange) and these were all distinct and all delicious. My friend enjoyed a cake, and the pulled pork was good. The kids enjoyed crafting and visiting the animals, and playing on the toy tractors. There were lots of nice photo opportunities with the pumpkins and the children loved the spooky maze. We've attended a few years in a row and will be back again next year.

Can’t recommend this farm enough. We experienced both the apple picking and the pumpkin patch and my 3 year old had the best time. There was a Halloween themed maze in the pumpkin patch that was so much fun. The staff are kind and helpful. The cafe was lovely and food was well priced. Lovely farm on site too.

Great shop, fresh eggs, they sell nice plants, very good for the price. Fresh veg, Play area for the children? I loved the Donkeys & pigs. Enjoy, you will love it.

We had a lovely morning at Lathcoats farm pumpkin patch, small but perfectly formed like the farm itself! Gorgeous collection of pumpkins which you could claim £2 off per person with your ticket. My 5 year old and 19 month old loved it, nothing too scary or overly Americanised. We got a range of beautiful pumpkins and also enjoyed the farm afterwards. We did the additional Halloween trail with my eldest, although I think £6 was a little steep but happy to contribute to the farm as we love it so much.

Mace Playce in Chelmsford is a popular destination for families with young children. This establishment prioritizes cleanliness, with diligent staff consistently tidying up the premises. However, when it comes to food options, especially for those following a vegan diet or dealing with specific dietary needs such as CMPA in their child, the choices are limited and somewhat disappointing. Nonetheless, their chocolate cake is highly recommended for those with a sweet tooth.
Lovely for play or an event, loads of theme days as part of offer, extremely clean and tidy, loads of activities, friendly staff, staff is professional and very tidy, loads of yummy and healthful selection of foods and snacks. Clean toilets. Highly recommend 👏 🙌🌈🌞💕✨️👸👍

Took my 3 grandkids here recently and was very impressed. The price was very reasonable for 2 hours of play. We went around 10am in the school holiday and it was not busy. The staff were great and the whole place was very clean. Really enjoyed our visit and would recommend.

I enjoyed this place until my experience today… the staff don’t seem to handle business very well as it was a weekend. There was a party going on and they brought out characters for this party however a few younger kids got excited and wanted to look at the characters, the party space seems to be in the corner of the main floor when you have all that upstairs space? Surely if you’re going to have character meet and greets for parties it wouldn’t be 1) 5 minutes long, and 2) in COMMUNAL areas. One staff member literally pushed kids away because it was ‘for the party’ Which I 100% understand!! I’d be annoyed if some random kids ran and crashed a party. But as I’ve had visits in the past, I’ve seen them do random meet and greets! - so kids who come regularly think it’s just a random meet and greet as they remember. You need to move your parties upstairs if your staff members are going to be pushing kids away/ putting their bodies in the way and knocking into them. I almost lost my temper as my 3 year olds almost got knocked down :) Don’t have a party in the middle of the floor on a Saturday , go upstairs. Make it accessible

Arranged a Special needs session here for the community group I run with Eden Oasis petting events in attendance. I couldn’t be more impressed. The staff were patient and kind to all the children. The activities that were included in the ticket cost, exceeded my expectations. Everywhere was clean and the food was brought out quickly. The staff couldn’t do enough for us and we were fortunate enough to have exclusive use of the venue for our event. This meant the children & their families could explore and enjoy the event. Look forward to arranging the next one.

This place is actually rancid. Visited today and won’t be returning! Firstly the toilets stank of urine, and there were potties with urine in just left by grotty parents who can’t clean up after their kids. These sat there for hours and no one inspected the toilets the whole time I visited. Staff weren’t cleaning any equipment except hoovering a few crumbs off the floor. There is also urine stains on the floors of the under 5s area (especially in the play house). Again it stinks of urine in there. Lastly there is zero input from the staff to keep the older kids out of the under 5s area or the under 2 area. There were no parents to be seen of the little delights who pushed my child off of the climbing frame head first. The sibling of this kid also tried to shut my daughter’s hand in the play house and thought this was hilarious. This area is out of view for staff and no one seems to care what’s going on despite the age rules.

Excellent indoor play area, best one I've been to. Spacious, reasonable prices for entry and food. Great security I felt very safe. Staff were really polite and helpful. Good variety of toys/structures. On top of that they had organised activities. My son loved the muppet show. (Photos of a small part of the toddler area)

This place is great fun for kids. Nice play frame and a smaller area devoted to little kids too. The events these guys do are fantastic. Would really recommend.

Happy place for kids with soft play area, trampoline and slides. There is also a separate play area dedicated for toddlers. The grown ups can sit around and watch the kids having fun while enjoying hot/cold drinks with freshly made sandwiches. The staff members were really friendly and cheerful too. Free parking on-site. All in all good place for kids.

Riverside Leisure Centre in Chelmsford is a flagship facility offering a wide range of activities for all ages. From swimming and gym workouts to ice skating, it's the perfect place for fun and fitness. The ice rink provides public skating sessions and even hosts an Ice Disco on Fridays. The leisure pool features slides and water features, making it ideal for a refreshing swim.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | Riverside Leisure Centre: More Than Just an Ice Rink (But Good Luck With the Vending Machines) Ah, Riverside Leisure Centre - where I spend so much time, I may as well set up a bed in the corner. My daughter plays ice hockey here, and compared to some of the horrifying ice rinks we travel to for matches (see my other scathing reviews for tales of tragic toilets), this place is actually really good. The facilities are great - at least, I assume they are, since most of them are closed by the time training kicks off at 9:45 PM. Want a post-practice snack? Hope you like the thrill of gambling with a vending machine that’s either empty, broken, or requires a PhD to operate. I often find myself coaching a group of confused teenagers from the Friday night disco skate (think nightclub on ice - smoke machines, chaos, and teens with questionable balance) on how to work the thing. If only they’d put me on payroll. The ice? Solid. Seating? Decent. The PA system? A complete mystery. Match announcements sound like they’re being transmitted from a WW2 bunker - muffled, garbled, and completely unintelligible. But hey, it adds to the drama. Oh, and parking? I haven’t paid in three years, so I’m assuming it’s free. Or I’m on the run from some serious fines. Either way, bonus! Would I recommend? Definitely. Just bring snacks and don’t rely on the PA system to know what’s going on.

Great... When you can get in. Tried booked a session online using the app, was told 'there is a restriction for this purchase (no explanation why), call your centre. Called the centre but no one to answer the phone. Guess I won't go. Thanks Riverside.

With the upgrade, you can see every entrance to the ⛸️🏊‍♀️🏋‍♀️ & the rest. My experience today was at the café & being at the ice rink. There are positives to the upgrade: you made the place real appealing with that big building having patterned & coloured windows & they could reshape the ice rink as well (you can see its ancience on the outside with that old logo when the current logo is near). Like I said in the first scentence, it is easier to go anywhere - there are symbols for which places there are, whether it is going up the escalator or it is downstairs. A negative to the upgrade is that, they removed the diving board from the water area but at least they added a slide. If you do not like the upgrade, put up because it is good for the environment. For when I was on the rink, it was a nice thing to have it cleaned up for the next session do it looks clear, branded & practical for us to use. I got scared that I could fall over & bang my head, at least I could have a good experience.

Home to the mighty Chieftains! I can only review this place based on it's Ice-skating offering and as a venue in which to watch Ice Hockey. Both of which it does very well. A well maintained center with ample parking. Sells decent enough snacks and coffee and is a great day out for families ice skating or watching the ice hockey which is huge fun and fantastic value.

My first time using the leisure centre since the old leisure centre was demolished and the new one built and it is greatly improved compared to how it used to be. Very nice building, very clean, friendly and professional staff and great facilities. I think I will be using it regularly from now on.
Fosbren — Google review
It takes a certain type of owner to carry out improvements and actually make the place worse! Fewer ringside seats, poorer sightlines and the cafe removed. What a shame!
Laurence R — Google review
Told to leave ice and then building for wearing a flat cap . The website said no baseball caps . I wear flat cap to protect a recent head injury but this was not excuse enough.
Andrew R — Google review
Absolutely awful booking system. A cranky user-unfriendly web page that requires far too many details before you can book. Requires setting up a membership, even though we’re not likely to come back, and why do you need my date of birth and address? Why do I need to specify adults and children if the price is the same? Top tip, when it asks for your address, give theirs. Nobody checks. Ice skating itself was reasonably priced for a 2hr session, but they let far too many people in meaning we’re all playing dodgems. Finally, why does hiring a skating aid cost more than the actual entry ticket?! D+ Could do better.

A nice park with plant centre, souvenir shop, rose garden, lily pond, fruits and vegetables garden, restaurant and exhibition hall. It’s a lovely place to spend a weekend with family and friends. What a wonderful place. I went for a solo walk and had the best time wandering through the gardens. They’re full of colour, beautifully cared for, and there’s such a calm, happy feel everywhere you go. I went mid-week during term time. The sunshine made it even better. Perfect for anyone who loves nature, fresh air, and a bit of peace and quiet. Highly recommend

Nice gardens and displays, attentive staff although potentially a little too attentive on arrival. Unfortunately a few sections were closed on my visit for maintenance or works, so can’t give a full 5 star review. Prices are also very high making it less accessible for those on lower incomes.

It is away from city. Has a restaurant, lots of car parking. Bus facility is lesser. Nature lovers will like the place. The place seems beautiful with different flowers also peaceful. One could watch the colorful sections generally within an hour.

Beautiful, ever changing gardens. Plan to go back in a different season. Don’t think I had a favourite area, all so lovely. I would imagine there is plenty to see whatever time of year you visit. Friendly staff in the cafe. Lovely cakes. Sandwiches were very tasty, but lacked a respectable amount of filling.

Beautiful garden though a bit hard to get to on a weekday by train and buses. Shuttle bus available only at weekends. Love the rock garden and the restaurant with great scenic views. 😎My favourite is the Global Growth Vegetable Garden. Learned so much about origin of the most common vegetables. Love all the sculptures in the garden and the beautiful thatched house. Excellent food and love their cheese scone. Saw lots of robins. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Great shop too. Wonderful day out.

My first visit and not my last, didn’t realise the history of the place or the area. It is a place that cannot be done in one visit, there is so much to see. The garden centre has plants that are well worth buying and they are competitive priced, the compost is far superior in quality to what I have been buying elsewhere and I now will continue to purchase!

White Elm Garden Centre & Tearoom is a delightful destination that offers a charming blend of farm fun and relaxation. Visitors can enjoy the company of various animals, although some may be tucked away in sheds, making them less visible to younger guests. The play barn provides an excellent space for children to let loose, while families can indulge in tasty treats from the tearoom—though prices might be on the higher side. For special occasions like birthday parties, White Elm truly shines!
First time for me and my family, was a great day out, we even run out of time. Littles ones loved it and it was done up so lovely for easter, will definitely be going back.

We have recently had my son’s 5th birthday party at the farm and play barn. It was brilliant from start to finish. The kids have exclusive use of the farm and had a little guided tour with cuddles with the animals plus my husband got to walk a goat 😂 and the play barn is also just for you so it’s just and your friends/family in there. Absolutely fantastic. The children loved it. Thank you so much!!
Toni D — Google review
Clean on both sides of the fence . A lot of goats and quite a lot of do not feed signs which said feed the other end of the pen, a little confusing. Some animals were locked into sheds so only the very tall adults could see them. The play barn was good the food prices were as usual very high and another toilet would be nice. Ended the visit with the ride on bikes and tractors , About 20 kids all playing the same game with no arguments was a treat in itself. We had a good time and would happily go again

A really well thought out area. I didn’t get to explore much of the garden centre or cafe but will definitely be back to have a look around as looks lovely.

I went to Call Of The Wild Zoo to celebrate my daughter's first birthday. My two older children, aged 9 and 6, were fascinated by the staff member who was feeding the snake. Finding the zoo was a breeze, and there were ample parking spaces available. The reception gentleman warmly greeted us and even gave maps to my older kids. One of our favorite attractions was the tropical house, where my son had an enchanting experience with a butterfly landing on his shoulder.
Had the best time at Call of the Wild! The penguin experience was amazing – seriously, getting to be that close to them was something I’ll never forget. They’re super cute and clearly really well looked after. Our guide was brilliant – full of cool facts and made the whole thing really fun (so sorry I’ve forgotten your name!). Honestly, this place is such a hidden gem. Totally recommend it if you’re looking for something a bit different and special

Fabulous place, we went on a whim today and had a marvellous time. Small enough that you are not walking for miles and are quite close to all the animals. Lovely atmosphere, friendly people and all the animals appeared healthy and engaged - great for photos. We bought annual passes, as it seemed a shame not too.
Ian S — Google review
My partner and I visited here last week. It was a nice day out. Surprising how I've heard so little about this place. Quite a range of animals for a small zoo, even a vulture and a few penguins which were great. There's a gift shop for the kids and a small restaurant which looked nice but we didn't eat there. They are building and expanding this place for new enclosures and another, larger restaurant by the looks of it so we will visit again next year. I particularly enjoyed the lemur enclosure as well luckily arrived at feeding time and the staff gave some information about them while they climb about for food. It was about £15 each entry and it's about 3 hours to discover the whole place slowly so not bad value.

This was the first time we had visited since the week ot opened, and we were pleasantly surprised at how much it had changed. We spent well over 4 hours there, and our 7 year old grandson absolutely loved it. With more improvements ongoing, we will definitely return again soon to see what they have done.

My grandson and I had a great time here. There was a good variety of animals and a nice playground too. It was very disappointing in the respect that we did not see any butterflies and some of the enclosures seemed to be empty but on a nice sunny day, the playground helped add to the fun.

Very surprised at the amount of animals she was able to get up close with feeding and training , bonus was we were able to watch and interact too . Highly recommend for any animal lovers .

We had a really good time, it was easy to walk around and enough to keep younger children entertained. We brought packed lunches and there was plenty of seating space to take a break. Soft play definitely aimed for young children.

We had a great time at Call Of The Wild Zoo. I purchased the reptile experience for my animal mad daughter. We had just over half an hour experience where she was able to hold some of the reptiles, feed a few others and be escorted around the enclosures by a lovely guide called Lauren. It was £35 for the child undergoing the experience and I had to pay £18 to accompany her. Given that this also includes day entry into the zoo I think it was well worth the money. The zoo itself it's quite small compared to others but there is still a good selection of animals. They also offer penguin, lemur, meerkat experiences as well as other options. My daughter is already asking when she can go back. I highly recommend a visit.

Chelmsford Theatre is a modern venue that boasts a 500-seat capacity along with an adjoining studio space, making it the perfect spot for drama, musicals, and film screenings. As a local gem, many residents have fond memories of attending various tribute nights and comedy shows here. Following its recent refurbishment, the theatre has undergone a stunning transformation with updated decor and exterior fittings that elevate its ambiance to match contemporary standards. The seating arrangement features standard folding chairs equipped with armrests for added comfort during performances.
Great venue, easy to park in Fairfield Road CP (only £2.50 all night after 6pm), reasonably priced food & drink plus some amazing acts. I tend to go for the tribute bands who are always good value.

All Things Alpaca Ltd offers a delightful alpaca walking experience where visitors can interact with these gentle creatures. Guests have enjoyed walking and petting alpacas like Pedro, Panda, Pickle, and Puzzle. The alpacas are well-behaved and well-cared for, making the experience even more enjoyable. The knowledgeable staff provide interesting insights into the alpacas' personalities while leading walks through beautiful settings such as fruit tree orchards.
I've been here twice now, for my daughters 8th birthday and then came back with friends. Alpaca trekking is an excellent experience to spend time in fresh air and it's very therapeutic. Rebecca is wonderful and throughout the experience is very informative. I loved that each alpaca has their own personality and there are always funny stories she tells about them. I would come back again!

Thank you All Things Alpaca for making such a lovely experience a memorable one.

Chelmer Valley Park and Ride offers convenient and efficient parking for Anglia Ruskin University, with a quick 7-minute commute between the two locations. The bus stops right outside the university entrance, making it easily accessible. There is also a bus lane available for those busy mornings. Additionally, if two adults are returning together, they can enjoy discounted parking at just 5 pounds for the entire day while riding on the bus.
First time we used it staff very helpful. Although as pensioner's with bus passes we had to pay £1.50 each for a return journey it was worth it. No hassle parking especially as we are not local drops of middle of town. We also used the mini bus to visit my brother in Broomfields Hospital again less hassle. So yes very good.
Alan 1 — Google review
Lots of parking available on any day, at anytime. Extremely quiet on Saturdays. Can tap to pay on buses.onkg tip I would give is, in the colder months note that it can get very cold and windy waiting for the bus. Sounds silly but the place is so open that you'll feel every gust of wind. Bus drivers are friendly
Dee — Google review
I have been using the Park and Ride shuttle service to attend a training course at Broomfield Hospital. It’s such an easy process, the staff are so polite and have been nothing but helpful. A doctor was telling me there was talk of stopping this service which would be a massive shame. I urge anyone who visits Broomfield to consider this option. It’s also £1.50 for staff to use. Bargain!!
Ryan — Google review
What a fantastic service. Being new to the area and having an appointment in Chelmsford next week I decided to check out the Park and Ride. I am so impressed! Really takes the hassle out of trying to find somewhere to park in an unfamiliar city.
Gwen L — Google review
We've always had a great experience using the Park and Ride here. There's always plenty of parking available. There's a small inside waiting area with a toilet too. The buses arrive every 20 minutes or so, and it is only a short trip to the city centre for an incredibly cheap price (includes all day return ticket and parking). The drivers are friendly and helpful. The buses are clean and accept card/contactless or cash. Much easier and cheaper than trying to park in the city!
Giles C — Google review
Easy to park. Plenty of spaces. Bus service regular and frequent. Value for money and saves trying to find a space in town or sit in traffic whilst doing so.
Carol P — Google review
Great way to get to Broomfield hospital, buses from 6.30 to 19:30, no hassle trying to find a parking space at Broomfield or the expensive parking charges. Park and ride cost £3 parking and return journey by bus to hospital(bus pass holders get £1.50 discount). Last bus from hospital 19:45
Dave D — Google review
Really easy to get to. Always plenty of parking in the morning, and the bus departures run like clockwork. It's only a shame the afternoon timetable drops to 20min intervals - always feels like a long time to wait!

Sights & Landmarks
Arenas & Stadiums
Melbourne Community Stadium, a venue for athletics and home to Chelmsford City FC, boasts a capacity of 3,065 (including approximately 1,000 tiered seats). In addition to its football facilities, it offers a comprehensive range of athletic amenities such as an eight-lane running track and long jump area. Adjacent to the stadium lies the Sports and Athletics Centre which houses fully equipped gym facilities and sports halls.
We went with our Maldon Soul Runners running group for a 1st time taster session at the track. Great atmosphere, great track and great facilities.
Phil P — Google review
Great track (recently replaced) we went for a school event and the only downside was the lack of parking due in the main to inconsiderate parking by the school minibus’s mostly taking 2 (and sometimes 3) spaces!
Murdo M — Google review
We hired a meeting room with catering. Facilities in the room were good, plenty of seating/tables for 20+ people. The room we used was the smaller one, with open doors on to a patio overlooking the pitch. Catering was great, keeping tea and coffee in good supply. The buffet was varied enough, but simple enough to be fully consumed. A good facility.
Geoff B — Google review
Despite the pitch being surrounded by a running track, a nice stadium and good view from the main stand. However, I did not like how cramped the terrace was.
Dan B — Google review
Plenty parking. Free. Easy access. Friendly welcoming helpful staff. Hottest day ever and sports hall had air conditioning , for our badminton could not be better. Full marks. As a club we do lose out school hols when schools are booked on but generally fine. We book 2/3 courts which are always prepared for us. Not expensive. Roof lighting for us not the best.
Bob R — Google review
Need to have more people on turnstiles for busy games (took us 20+ mins queuing to get in on new year's day), and as it incorporates an athletics track, you're quite far from the action. Depsite these issues, it's a good modern stadium with decent facilities and I would return.
John A — Google review
It's a great stadium with (probably) everything you will need. For track and field specifically it seems like a really good place to train. The only hassle is booking a session. For some reason it is really tricky to understand on their website what hours are available and how to book them. I am told the app is a better experience but I haven't had the time to try it. You can always call to ask for availability and the staff are always helpful. Overall haven't had a bad experience.
GFV5050 — Google review
It's great that CCFC have a permanent home but this is not a football stadium. The pitch is surrounded by a running track so there's very little atmosphere because the supporters are so far from the touchline. The bar staff are delightful and a couple of real ales were available. I don't do burgers and hotdogs etc. but if that's your thing then you're in luck. A proper big catering van with a big queue with people getting served quickly.

Popped in here with my 11 year old Daughter yesterday. It was a real pleasure to see the beautiful art on display, the friendliness of the Manager who took the time to explain a little about different art work to my daughter also. Thank you for being a very refreshing experience for an 11 year old. We will be back! Thoroughly recommend popping in if you have older kids interested in art !

Nice walk along the tow path up to Barnes Mill Lock and back. There are no facilities/tea room like at Paper Mill Lock, and there is no public parking unlike Paper Mill Lock which is run by the local farmer rather than the IWA.

Enjoyable amble by the river up to Barnes Mill, first time visit, it's lacking in car parking spaces & facilities, (location cm26ny) we were lucky to find a spot on edge of road, the museum is a short walk so when this opens maybe you could use this as a base, quite a few boats and could be a nice spot to people watch during summer.

This spacious gallery features an exquisite collection of paintings, limited edition prints, jewelry, crafts, and gifts from contemporary British artists. Throughout the year, it hosts a variety of exhibitions that showcase the talent and creativity of these artists. Visitors rave about the exceptional service at Gallery 43.
Took a couple of prints in for framing and the staff there were so helpful and accommodating. Excellent service and lovely quality- will definitely use again!
Lisa M — Google review
Gallery 43 saved me with three bespoke mounts in a really short time frame to help me with a last minute exhibition. I am so grateful for their help, advice and super quick support!! The team are so friendly and inviting and I won’t be going anywhere else for my framing needs now! Thank you so much for your help and assistance! Completely recommend to anyone for framing needs! Also the artist work and products around the store are all beautiful and really worth a look when you visit!

I took in a large Matisse for framing, and love the custom frame with non-reflective glass. Would highly recommend. The staff were also very helpful when I returned for some smaller off the shelf frames.

I've used Gallery 43 on number of occasions to frame cross stitch. Always very helpful from start to finish, framing always looks amazing.
Alison E — Google review
Used for their framing service. Very friendly service and a quick turnaround, considering we ordered two large frames for our phitos only a few days before Christmas. The end product is excellent with amazing quality
Andreas K — Google review
Utterly disgusted with my customer experience today. Went in to have a picture frame made with a mount I had provided to resize. The shop assistant from the outset was too busy to listen to what I needed. She huffed when she couldn't understand then rolled her eyes.when I asked if they could match a new custom frame with one from their ones off the shelf she abruptly said no while trying g to serve other customers before finishing with me . I left the shop ...to make this worse we was followed by said woman to the the jewellery shop where she proceeded to ask what our problem was . I've never been harrased like this before so unprofessional and as a photographer that has used them before will no longer be returning . I do not pay good money to be humiliated in the street .
Steve E — Google review
Utterly superb service and so helpful if you are a bit dithery like I can be at times. I have used the on numerous occasions for framing my cross stitch which if you have spent hour after hour carefully stitching you want your work to be beautifully framed. Believe me I have seen the results of poor framing so when you find good work you hang on to them. It isn't cheap but then the finest work isn't as the saying you get what you pay for is so often true.
