Monte Faito is a stunning limestone mountain located in the Monti Lattari range within the Sorrentine Peninsula in southern Italy. Standing at 1,131 meters high, it offers breathtaking views of the Gulf of Naples and provides a refreshing escape from the summer heat and a snowy wonderland in winter. Visitors can take an eight-minute cable car ride from Castellammare to reach its summit and enjoy panoramic vistas.
Very beautiful nature, lots of space for walking and picnic. From my point of view it's not fair not to be included in Italy's tourist spot. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to get there without a car. Convenient if you have your own car, there is room for parking. Not very many places to eat and all cafes are not open till the end of the day.

Rickety old cable car took us up to top of mount faito standing only - cable car is accessible at end of train station platform to be fair if the weather had been clear the views would have been amazing there is 2 small restaurants and toilets at top bus down was something else very narrow roads very fast driving

Get away from the hot weather of the city - we had 22 degrees and there was 32 in the city. Nice walk in the woods in the shade, beautiful views on the mount Vesuvio and the city.

Great place to visit with staying in Castellammare di Stabia. Funicular goes up every 20 min., round trip costs 8 eur. per person. View point is 10-15 min. walk, also there's few bars if you want to grab a drink or snacks.

Beautiful hiking trail with certain level of difficulty but manageable in general. Entrance to the trail is convenient to access via a cable car ride from Castemarre di stabia train station.

Mount Faito is a mountain that is part of the mountain chain of the Lattari mountains: 1,131 meters high, has access from both Castellammare di Stabia and Vico Equense and can also be reached by the cable car of the same name, managed by the Autonomous Authority Volturno, from the station of Castellammare di Stabia.
Roberto Z — Google review
One of my favorite days during my two week Italy trip was the day spent taking the cable car, talking to Nicola (the owner of the bar connected to the Cable Car area) about where to hike and eating his delicious food and drinks, hiking along the road there, reaching the church and great view, hiking back through the forest, ending with a few more snacks and drinks and taking the cable car back to town.

Terme Stabiane in Pompeii offers a fascinating glimpse into Roman bathing rituals and engineering sophistication. These well-preserved public baths, dating back to 125 BC, feature changing rooms, saunas, and a central swimming pool. Originally built in the 19th century at the request of King Francis of Bourbon, the complex was later expanded and modified by various architects.
The Terme Stabiane, or Stabian Baths, are among the oldest and most impressive baths in Pompeii, showcasing the importance of public bathing in ancient Roman culture. This expansive complex features distinct areas for hot, warm, and cold baths, complete with beautifully preserved frescoes and intricate mosaics that enhance its charm. The layout reflects the sophistication of Roman engineering, with well-thought-out spaces for relaxation and socialization. As you explore the various chambers, you can imagine the vibrant atmosphere of social interaction and wellness that once filled these halls. A visit to the Terme Stabiane offers a fascinating insight into daily life in Pompeii, celebrating the blend of leisure, hygiene, and community in this remarkable ancient city.

The Stabian Baths are the oldest thermal complex in Pompeii, dating back to the 2nd century BC – basically the city’s first spa and social hub. Here, everyone from slaves to senators could enjoy hot and cold baths, saunas, and gossip. The preserved underfloor heating (hypocaust system) shows they took comfort seriously – or at least seriously sweaty. Much like today, it wasn’t just about hygiene – it was about flexing in the caldarium before flexing on Instagram.

A part of the ruins that was a really well kept. A bath house that had separated rooms dedicated for each gender, male and female. It is curious to see that they had implemented a lot of decor and and artworks for the place.

The town's oldest baths complex opens onto Via dell'Abbondanza at the corner of Via Stabiana not far from the Forum and probably dates from the 2nd century B.C..The establishment covers a total surface area of over 3,500 square metres and is divided into two adjacent sections respectively reserved for men and women and includes a courtyard which was used as a gymnasium.Three sides of the courtyard have colonnades with stuccoed tuff-stone pillars, while the fourth side borders onto a large swimming-pool one and a half metres deep. Separated from the gymnasium by a low wall, the latter could be reached from two side-rooms where the bathers would probably get changed for the bathing rite. After the earthquake of 62 A.D. the swimming-pool area was embellished with elegant coloured stucco decorations which enclose a number of panels depicting mythological figures and athletes.Only a few bathing chambers were annexed to the gymnasium to the north. The other rooms were later turned into a large lavatory situated at the rear of the apartment belonging to the manager of the baths. The bathing establishment proper occupies the longer side of the Peristyle. A door in the right-hand corner of the colonnade leads to the men's section. The first room on the left is a chamber for cold baths (Frigidarium), which is round in shape with four corner niches and a pool in the centre. The water used to feed the pool flowed from another niche in the north-facing wall. The fact that this room came before the one where the bathers undressed may suggest that it was actually used as a laconicum, i.e. a steam room in which the air was heated by means of bronze braziers. From the entrance hall the bather entered the changing room (Apodyterium), which is plastered in white except for a red band running all round the lower half of the walls; the vault has stucco decorations in various colours. The next room is the Tepidarium, in which warm baths were taken. It was heated by hot air which circulated under the floor (between small terra-cotta pillars called Suspensurae) and - as can be seen in the areas where work was in progress at the time of the eruption - through cavities in the walls themselves. The room that follows is the Calidarium where the tub on the right-hand side was used for hot baths. Above the bath we can see three niches which contained statues while the marble basin situated along the apsidal wall contained cold water which the bathers used to cool off while in that intensely heated room. The fires for heating both the water and the air needed for the two sections of the bathing complex were situated behind the Calidarium wall. Walking along the gymnasium colonnade, we reach the entrance door to the women's section. Here the rooms follow one another in the same sequence as in the men's section, but as there is no Frigidarium, the bathers would pass directly from the changing room into the Tepidarium and from there to the Calidarium which contained a number of bronze tubs for individual baths.

Discover the ancient Roman site of Scavi di Stabia - Villa San Marco, a fascinating archaeological treasure buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. The site features excavated villas, artifacts, and well-preserved frescoes that offer a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of its former inhabitants. While not in perfect condition, the Villa Arianna showcases impressive frescoes that hint at its former grandeur. Located just a 1.
So well preserved that it looks like you could repair it and live there yourself. Absolutely amazing... Better preserved than anything in Herculaneum or Pompeii. And it was free!

Burried by approximately three meters of ash following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, this Roman Villa is currently being renovated and expanded. The stucco walls remain mostly intake in several areas.

Villa San Marco in Stabiae is one of those places that truly takes you back in time. The ruins are impressive – with large courtyards, a swimming pool, mosaics, and frescoes that still amaze with their colors and details. It’s incredible to walk through the spaces where the daily life of wealthy Romans took place over two thousand years ago. Compared to Pompeii, the site is much less crowded, making the visit more relaxed and allowing you to appreciate the details at your own pace. Another great thing is that entrance is free – a rare chance to see such a well-preserved piece of history without any cost. If you’re interested in ancient Rome, this site is an absolute must.
Kamil O — Google review
PLEASE go visit the Villa San Marco - you won’t be disappointed. Right from the start, you enter the atrium with its stunning frescoes, bathed in the light of the impluvium’s open roof. Then you walk down the hallways, which are literally covered from floor to high ceiling in red frescoes, with small designs - it seems impossible! The peristyle garden is large with mature trees and loads of shade, and a *gigantic* and deep pool. The porticos on either side are again covered with colorful frescoes, which lead to similarly decorated rooms. A fantastic experience. NOTE: you really need to visit the brand new Stabiae Archaeological Museum (Libero d’Orsi), as it has hundreds of frescoes from the Villa San Marco, the nearby Villa Arianna, and other assorted ancient Roman villas in the Stabiae area. It will leave you breathless - gorgeously presented and comprehensive.

Stumbled across this little gem whilst waiting for a vehicle repair. Not many clues to highlight its presence however I was very pleased to have wandered in to explore this small slice of ancient Roman history. Selfishly it was the almost complete lack of any other visitors which made it feel so special. Thank you to Anthonio who brought the venue to life with his enthusiasm and fascinating insights into both the building and former occupants.

Fantastic hidden gem. Beautiful frescos and tiling. A little out of the way but well worth visiting - less overwhelming than Pompeii for someone who doesn't like crowds. 10/10

Incredibly well preserved Roman villa and baths. You can see the very detailed wall paintings in every room, the working ways of the baths of the time, and of course the villa itself. Also, in comparison to many other similar quality archeological areas, it is free to visit.

Villa Arianna is a Roman villa that was buried in the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 CE. It is one of three villas located outside Herculaneum and Pompei, which visitors can explore today. Although the Bourbons damaged and stole many of the villa's frescoes, there are still partially preserved rooms with beautiful views to be admired.
A secret little gem away from hustle and bustle of the large tourist attractions. This is a free entry location that gives you the same Roman historical experience but on a more personal basis. Strongly recommended to add to your visit itinerary.
Steve — Google review
The villa is about a 20 minutes walk from Via Nocera railway station. It is situated overlooking the town of Castellammare di Stabia. It is free to enter (opening times available on the Pompeii website), you just need to sign in at the entrance building. The complex has a good set of rooms, with some excellent surviving wall art fragments and tiled floors. The site also provides good views of Vesuvius. Took about an hour to look around it all. Site also has the best public toilets we have found so far in Italy - spotless, hot water, soap, working hand dryers and toilets with seats!

Do not miss this. Beatiful panorama from this charming villa. Not easy to get the ( unfortunately) but it is worth a deviation or a short walk. You really get a feeling of "good life" in Roman times. After the visit go to the museum: some of the paintings escavated here are there.

Villa Arianna was the first one of three I visited outside Herculaneum and Pompei. It was lovely, there was almost nobody. The feeling you have for spending time there is priceless. But the Bourbons really butchered the house and took its lovely frescoes. You can see them in Archeological museum, but it's not the same as walking through these corridors.

The Teatro Grande, also known as the Large Theatre, is a horseshoe-shaped Roman theater in Pompeii that was remarkably preserved by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. With seating for 5,000 spectators and stunning views over Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius, it offered fantastic acoustics for musical performances and plays. Dating back to the Samnite era, this grand structure features a cavea divided into three levels and a velarium to protect spectators from the elements.
The theater is so beautiful and well preserved must visit when you go to Pompeii

Wow! I sat in this place and imagined all that’s happened in the world since this place was built. Also imagined the process of building it. Those men working so hard who are now long gone. And the moment the volcano erupted. Amazing historical site!

What an experience! The fact that they uncovered this city after 1700 years and then it took almost 300 years of labor for it to be admired by tourists is unbelievable. We'll worth seeing it!!
Marta S — Google review
Visiting the ruins of Pompeii is less a tourist attraction and more a profound historical experience. It is unlike any other archaeological site in the world, offering an unparalleled look at the daily life of a Roman city frozen in time by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. The sheer scale of the city is staggering. You can wander for hours through ancient streets, still marked by chariot ruts, and step inside bakeries, bathhouses, and even lavish villas like the House of the Vettii. Seeing the original mosaics, frescoes, and the detailed architecture brings history to life in a way textbooks simply cannot. The path is often uneven, but the reward is worth the effort. The most moving part of the visit is seeing the plaster casts of the victims—a tragic, powerful reminder of the disaster. Standing on the very spot where people lived, worked, and ultimately perished, with Vesuvius looming dramatically in the background, creates a deep sense of connection to the past. This is an essential stop for anyone interested in history or archaeology. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water!
Kyle J — Google review
Although it is actually the only theatre in Pompeii it was given this name to distinguish it from the nearby Odeion, which is much smaller and was used for different purposes. It was built in the 2nd century B.C. more or less according to traditional Greek canons in so far as the tiered seating makes use of a natural slope and the orchestra is arranged in a horse-shoe shape. It was extended and restored during the reign of Augustus at the personal expense of the Holconius brothers, who were rich Pompeian vine growers. An inscription tells us that the entire seating area had been resurfaced in marble, but this was removed and carried off after the destruction of the town. The upper circle was added to increase the seating capacity and the two side boxes built above the entrances to the orchestra were reserved for the guests of honour. In this way the theatre of Pompeii could accommodate 5,000 people seated in three different areas which were separated by corridors. The first (called the ima Cavea) was situated in the orchestra itself and had four rows of seats which were reserved for the decurions, while the first rows of the media Cavea were for the representatives of the corporations: one of these was reserved for the eldest of the Holconius brothers and was identified by an inscription in bronze letters. The remaining places right up to the top part (summa Cavea) were designated for the ordinary townspeople. The final tier had stone rings fitted into the walls which were used to support the poles which held the large canopy covering the theatre to protect the audience from the sun.The stone stage was rebuilt after the earthquake of 62 A.D. in imitation of the facade of an important building decorated with columns, niches and statues. To the rear was a small and unusual-shaped dressing room running the whole width of the stage area, which could be reached by three doors leading directly from the stage. A further three doors lead out onto a large courtyard.

The Teatro Grande, or Great Theatre of Pompeii, is an impressive architectural marvel that showcases the grandeur of ancient Roman entertainment. With a seating capacity of approximately 5,000, this large amphitheater features a stunning semicircular design and remarkable acoustics, making it perfect for theatrical performances and public events. The well-preserved tiered seating and the intricately detailed stage backdrop invite visitors to envision the lively performances that once took place here. Surrounded by the beautiful backdrop of Vesuvius, the Teatro Grande offers a captivating glimpse into Pompeii’s cultural life and artistic heritage. A visit to this iconic site is a journey into the heart of ancient drama, immersing you in the rich traditions of Roman theater.

As I was walking I could envision crowded street with women tending to their children, men taking care of business and hear the Roman chariots coming through the streets. It was truly a highlight during my tour of Italy. Our tour guide Roberto was an excellent story teller.

Pompeii (/pɒmˈpeɪi/) was an ancient Romancity near modern Naples in the Campaniaregion of Italy, in the territory of the comuneof Pompei. Pompeii, along with Herculaneumand many villas in the surrounding area (e.g. at Boscoreale, Stabiae), was buried under 4 to 6 m (13 to 20 ft) of volcanic ash and pumicein the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. Volcanic ash typically buried inhabitants who did not escape the lethal effects of the earthquake and eruption. Largely preserved under the ash, the excavated city offers a unique snapshot of Roman life, frozen at the moment it was buried and providing an extraordinarily detailed insight into the everyday life of its inhabitants. Organic remains, including wooden objects and human bodies, were entombed in the ash and decayed away, making natural molds; and excavators used these to make plaster casts, unique and often gruesome figures from the last minutes of the catastrophe. The numerous graffiti carved on the walls and inside rooms provides a wealth of examples of the largely lost Vulgar Latinspoken colloquially, contrasting with the formal language of the classical writers. Pompeii is a UNESCO World Heritage Sitestatus and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Italy, with approximately 2.5 million visitors every year. Excavations recommenced in several unexplored areas of the city, and in 2018 new discoveries were reported.

The Santuario di Apollo in Pompeii is known for housing the "Seikilos epitaph," one of the earliest known musical compositions in Western music history. This inscription, engraved on a tombstone within the sanctuary, includes both lyrics and musical notation. It offers insights into ancient musical practices and reminds us of the enduring power of music across time.

I loved visiting Pompeii. Better than Machu Picchu in my opinion because that was largely built after the fact and had only a few original stones, so it was pretty much fake! But here, although they went to great lengths rebuilding the city they excavated, they found many interesting artifacts so we know the lifestyles of the inhabitants. You must go see the carbonized seeds and fruits in the National Archeological Museum in Naples!

Teatro Piccolo is a very well-preserved theater. It is simply amazing that there's this much left of it and it has very great views. The architecture and engineering that it took to build is simply amazing and it is unbelievable that it lasted this long and it kept it well preserved
Razorrau1 — Google review
The Teatro Piccolo, or Odeon, is the smaller but classier sibling of the Great Theatre. Built mainly for music and poetry performances – no rowdy crowds or snack stands here – just quiet listeners pretending to be cultured. With its roof and superb acoustics, even a whispered argument could sound like an epic Greek tragedy. Perfect for those who prefer lyres over lions.
Michael N — Google review
It is truly a shame that you can no longer enter the theatre except from taking a photo of it from one of the entrances. Still amazed by how they were able to build these structures. Definitely not anything extravagant, but practical and with small ornamental details.

Even if its small (that is what piccolo means), it appears big to the eye as you get a close view like you are at the center. Really beautiful.

During my recent travels, I stumbled upon the American Bar Oasis and it turned out to be a delightful surprise! The atmosphere was incredibly relaxed, making it the perfect spot to unwind after a long day of exploring. The staff were not only friendly but also attentive, ensuring that every guest felt welcomed. I indulged in some fantastic food—my burger with chips and bacon was simply divine—and couldn't resist trying their freshly made desserts as well.
We visited this past week and found the bar by accident and I'm glad we did, all of the staff were amazing and very friendly, the food and drinks were amazing, so much so we ended up going back every night of our holiday. If we ever go back there on holiday again I'll be sure to head straight back to this bar, very relaxed atmosphere and even though there was a bit of a language barrier we found the staff to be very good and very caring. Actually miss the place already and wish we were back there sipping more drinks 🍸!!

I was shocked. I just ordered cocktails 🍸 and they brought me plate of snacks.... and I love them.. but what was shocking about... that i have payed only for cocktails and plate was for free 😋 Definitely I'm coming back tomorrow 😈😎👌🍸 Because I paid only 20 euros for 2 💶

We are from Edinburgh Scotland and found this place by accident on walking back from Villa San Marco. What a relaxing atmosphere, we were tired and thirsty we ordered drinks then food. Food were amazing, we ordered burger with chips and bacon and some salad both just perfect, could not ask for any more, 10 out of 10, both freshly made, we also ordered desserts, freshly made fruits and cream. Very glad we found this place and we're planning to go back again. At the end they ordered us taxi to the station. If they were in Edinburgh we would be there all the time.

My brother and I was here tonight, our last day in the area before driving up north. We had a great time, the staff was super nice, the atmosphere was awesome and food/drinks were great. I'd recommend 10/10.

This place was walking distance from our hotel, so we figured we'd try it out. I was totally not expecting anything special, but we were pleasantly surprised! The staff is really nice and the bartender is REALLY good! He can make some really crazy cocktails, all the way down to simple gin and tonics with a twist. The food is so so, but I would go back 100 times for the drinks, staff and dessert!

Wonderful menu and service, and the venue is absolutely beautiful. We came here twice on our vacation and would happily go back again!

We were searching for a nearby eatery when we took a seat on a bench to consult Google and discovered this edifice. It was during sunset. Uncertain how it integrates with the entire square in terms of its design. Simple to overlook, despite its impressive height.
We were looking for a restaurant around, we sat down on a bench to check on Google and realised this structure. It was at sunset. Not sure how it fits to the whole square in terms of its architecture. So easy to miss, even though it's so tall.

The Diocesan Museum is a compact establishment showcasing a limited collection of relics. The space appears modest, and there are indications that renovations may be on the horizon, as a thin layer of dust covers some items. Admission to the museum is complimentary, and conveniently located across from a larger cathedral. Visitors in the vicinity would find it worthwhile to pay a visit to this petite exhibition centered around ancient Stabia.

It’s a pretty small place with a small number artifacts. It’s a little dust seems like maybe they are planning on renovating. It is free and across the street from a more grand cathedral, so if you around there might as well stop by.

(Translated by Google) The Sorrento-Stabiese Diocesan Museum is an archaeological museum, located in Castellammare di Stabia and so called because it was created at the behest of the archdiocese of Sorrento-Castellammare di Stabia together with a team of archaeologists. Today's Co-Cathedral was built in what is now Piazza Giovanni XXIII by order of Monsignor Ludovico Majorano, who laid the first stone on 22 November 1587. The construction continued with ups and downs. In 1760 the Cathedral was consecrated by the bishop Monsignor Giuseppe Coppola. It was further enlarged in the last years of the 19th century. The Co-Cathedral is a Latin cross with three naves and five chapels on each side: you can admire the frescoes by Francesco Paliotti on the vault, splendid marble works, the stucco work by Luigi Prezioso, the gilding by Francesco Galante. Numerous and precious canvases are kept in it; among them the Deposition by Jusepe de Ribera, the Delivery of the Keys to Saint Peter by Giuseppe Bonito, the Assumption by Nunzio Rossi, the Visitation of the Madonna to Saint Elizabeth by Giacinto Diano and the Trinitarian canvas with Christ in the arms of the Eternal Father of the 17th century. In the Chapel of San Catello, in addition to the splendid wooden statue (17th century) of the patron saint of Castellammare, there is the strigliato sarcophagus of Cornelia Ferocia, with in the center a female figure with a scroll and two shepherds with a lamb and a ram on the shoulders. During the first excavation, carried out in 1876 to lay the foundations of the chapel of San Catello and to expand the Cathedral, most of the finds preserved here were found at a depth of about three meters. In 1879, while digging a well under the sacristy of the Cathedral, about one meter deep, the sarcophagus of Julius Longinus (n. 47), the epigraph of Cornelia Ferocia (n. 45), some inscriptions and the milestone were found. Adrianea (n. 24), indicating the eleventh mile from Nuceria. Thanks to these and other finds it has been possible to ascertain that between the Augustan age and the 3rd century AD. the western coastal strip of Stabia was characterized by port installations, shops and workshops and was placed here between the 4th and 5th centuries AD. a Christianorum area, initially a subdial cemetery superimposed on the previous buildings. The finds, initially displayed as in a "small museum" in the chapter house of the Cathedral of Castellammare, remained entrusted to the state Antiquarium Stabiano from 16 January 1964 until 2007. Cit. Cit.

The Antiquarium di Pompei, constructed by Giuseppe Fiorelli in the 19th century, is located below the terrace of the Temple of Venus. It used to exhibit artifacts representing daily life in ancient Pompeii and casts of victims from the eruption. The museum now houses paintings found in Roman villas destroyed by Vesuvius in A.D.79.
Wonderfully preserved. It's absolutely incredible. It is very hot in this region, especially in the summer, and there is not a lot of shade, so I'd suggest mapping out exactly what you want to see or coming with a tour. Having a plan and knowing where you're going makes this an incredible experience, whereas wandering around aimlessly in the heat could be torturous. This place is gigantic. You don't want to wing it.

This museum within the ancient town of Pompeii is a must visit. Here you can view actual molds of real people and animals that were victims of the eruption. The very famous Dog of Pompei is stored here! There’s also a lot of items used in daily life back in those times that are on display here , along with artifacts and Art. This museum also provides a respite from the hot Weather outside and there are nice bathrooms. Dont skip this museum when you are in Pompei.

A classic museum right in Pompeii offering an intriguing look at archaeological finds from the city and surrounding area. Here you’ll find statues, mosaics, tools, and everyday objects – some exhibits might seem a bit morbid, so brace yourself if you have a sensitive stomach. The museum is a great stop to take a break from the busy ruins and soak up more history and stories that the ruins alone can’t tell. Plus, it’s a place to relax and fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere of ancient life.

It was great experience. I always wonder and want to see this antique city. When you think conditions of 2000 years ago it was really developed and great city. You can think you are at beginning of modern date while walking on in street of Pompeii. Buildings street water canals stores everything was great and I think today's city design base to Pompei's architecture. By the way remains of people was not much we saw just 3 or 5 remain of people and of course in the little historical museum next to Pompei

Recently updated and opened in January 2021, the new Antiquarium provides a modern museum space for some of the treasures of Pompeii that are still on-site. Frescoes, artifacts, and casts of the residents caught by the volcanic flows are on display in an modern, air-conditioned space. A number of these items had either not been displayed or were displayed outdoors and partially sheltered from the elements.

Beautiful and informative museum in Pompeii. I highly recommend coming here prior to entering the city, especially if you’re on a self-guided tour. There is a ton of info in this museum and a lot of well-preserved and interesting artifacts, including casts of people who died in the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. You can easily spend an hour here, so plan to arrive at Pompeii a little early! Definitely need to experience this. The entrance is kind of strangely placed — you’ll have to walk all the way to the bottom of the hill to reach it.

The Museo archeologico di Stabiae "Libero D’Orsi" in Castellammare di Stabia is a beautifully curated museum that showcases a remarkable collection of artifacts from the ancient Roman city of Stabiae, which was buried under ash during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. The museum's exhibits include sculptures, mosaics, and other treasures unearthed from the ruins of Stabiae.
I recently visited the Museo Archeologico Di Stabiae Libero D’Orso. The place is Amazing, with an impressive collection. The highlight of the museum is undoubtedly the wall paintings. The Archaeological Park of Pompeii is a remarkable site that preserves the remains of the ancient Roman city, which was buried under ash and lava during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. The vastness of the excavated ruins showcases the impressive extent of Roman civilization frozen in time. Rediscovered in 1599, detailed archaeological investigations began two centuries later, revealing a wealth of historical treasures.
This was one of the best experiences I have had. There is so much to see here. The guide we had was very nice and funny, I learned so much from her. We spent 2 hours here and it was nowhere near enough time to see everything. There are also a ton of stray cats that roam the ruins and a sweet dachshund that walks around and greets everyone near the entrance.

It's a fascinating archeological site to witness ancient Rome which was destroyed or buried in the volcanic ashes. I highly recommended to visit if you are near Naples or Sorrento. It's a massive place and well restored, still restoration work is ongoing. That said it's quite hard to tell some areas whether it's restored, or original. There are lots of information to take in and it's worth taking a tour guide as you would be lost without it because sign posts are very limited and it's like a maze. We had a tour guide of 20 people which was not very comfortable and personal. As only people in front gets a better understanding. I will suggest if you want a better experience choose less than 10 people in a tour. Plus, do not visit on a hot sunny day specially with a child. There is a very little shade, not many toilets, or water or cafe facilities for children. Please don't take any pram as pathways are not built for pram. Overall, it's a must see place, truly enriching experience, but not suitable or pleasant with a baby or young children.
Prashant S — Google review
Definitely worth visiting during low season in the morning. I saw less than a hundred people the whole time. Walking through the ruins can be difficult if you don't have proper shoes. It is all cobblestone and uneven terrain. Also, bring a map it is easy to get lost and the park is large and dense in some areas. Don't forget bottled water and snacks. There are no cafes or places to eat. The cafe in the middle was closed. You will have to walk to the entrance or exit if you want something to eat. Overall, unique place to visit if you enjoy history. Plan an entire day to see the major sites. 2-3 days if you want to see everything and not feel rushed.
Suzanna M — Google review
Must see archeological site for all ages. A well preserved large city (between 11,000 - 20,000 people), showing how the Romans lived. It is a whole lot of walking on not so smooth narrow sidewalks, so bring comfortable hiking shoes, plenty of water and take lots of breaks. We saw about 1/3 of the city in 3 hours. You will need more than 1 day to see all. Start early, they shut the gates around 3pm for coming in. Not ideal for baby strollers or wheelchairs. Lots of neat pictures you can take. Bring a snack, they supposedly have a restaurant inside, we saw possible sign for it. Restrooms only at entrances, that we saw, so plan accordingly. If you buy your tickets at the entrance plan on a very slow line, do to only one employee in booth and make sure you have exact change, because they will not have change. The signage for parking, ticket locations very poor and lacking. The signage in the park itself is very lacking and street numbers are very confusing so pay attention to the map they give you and track your route or it will be very easy for you to get lost. There are water fountains/spigots but they are not marked as drinkable. Please be respectful of others trying to get by you on the sidewalks and try not to block them or the room entrances and be courteous to the elderly people.
Kevin M — Google review
Fascinating archaeological park. If you are not familiar with the history, I suggest some light reading before exploring the park. Even if you are familiar with the history, I would still recommend to get a professional guide to explore the park as they would know which interesting spots to look at. Such a surreal experience to be where a civilization was buried. Also recommend to go in the afternoon as morning would be quite packed.
Lyn N — Google review
You have to expect it to be crowded, but in this case, it's not a problem as the place is huge!!! There's so much to see, highly recommend to book in advance and also to arrive early to be able to see everything. We arrived at 9am and left at around 3pm, so the people that come after lunch surely won't have time to see and walk everything. We had bought the Pompei+ ticket which gives access to the west area, it was nice but could do without it, specially when you're already so tired of walking all day.

A huge area when you can walk and look at the amazing view of the Amalfi coast. I think Bomerano which is a district of Agerola, is a good location to start a tour, indeed more then one map are displayed and you can decide where you want to go. Limoneto di Ercole What a pleasure! The property is first class and the host is a real gent (Nicola - excuse the incorrect spelling I think) - cannot help enough with advice about everything from taxis to excursions to hikes to motor bike treks to restaurants to shopping to bus timetables to ferries. The room was 5 star with a mezzanine bedroom and an enormous king in the master bedroom. Huge bathroom and a well stocked self catering kitchen. A view to kill for as it afforded a vista over the town of Erchie and the Gulf of Naples. The entire property is swathed in lemon and lime groves which are carefully manicured and managed by the ever present Isaac. After a long days hike there is a grass platform which gets the sun until after 6pm replete with a hot tub! This is one of the best self catering locations I have stayed at globally and I would highly recommend it for travellers of all types - note the property closed November to March. Bus stop is outside the front door. Lots of onsite parking. If you are not hiring a car then note that the taxi from Naples airport can be negotiated down to about EUR€120 but I still get the feeling I was had. An alternative route would be to take a EUR€5 taxi (10 minutes) to Cetara and a ferry to Salerno (20 minutes, no stops, EUR€5 per passenger and EUR€5 per bag) then take the express train to Naples Centrale (35 minutes) for EUR€4.30 then it is a 15 minute taxi ride to the airport for about EUR€20 depending. Get a train from the same station to Pompei and Vesuvius. Do the Vesuvius hike, allocate a day for Pompei (divert from the crowd and go south to the less crowded side streets and vineyards (near where the mummified bodies exhibit is), take the ferry (Travel Mar is the best company IMHO) to Sorrento and ferry hop the Amalfi coast from Sorrento to Positano to Maoiri to Minori to Cetara and then Salerno and then take the train (30 minutes) back to Naples. See Capri on your way - use Positano as your jump off point for that excursion. Hiking, water sports, climbing, boating, fishing, sight seeing, food, museums, the locals - they are all here! You can book tickets for all of the above online. Google it. Google is your friend. Hotel Royal Continental The hotel is located right opposite Castel dell'ovo and around the castle there is a marina and plenty of restaurants and cafe's. The street in front of the hotel has a walk for 5 kms along the Gulf of Naples and the entire stretch is dotted with restaurants - all good value with extensive menus. It comes alive at night with locals. The hotel is only 1.5kms from the ferry terminal where you can also book bus tours or just bus routes to multiple destinations. Easy taxi ride to the airport - 23EUR standard fare.

Villa Comunale is a great spot for families with a playground area, although the standards may vary. The public toilets nearby are surprisingly large and clean. Despite being busy, the area feels serene, especially in the cool evening, offering great views of Vesuvius. It's considered one of the best sea promenades in Italy with breathtaking views of Mount Vesuvius and Mount Faito.
Amazing kids playground by the sea. There are many slides and games for toddlers

Even when it's busy, especially in the cool of the evening, it's very serene with a certain peaceful feeling and great views of Vesuvius.

The sights are breathtaking. All along the border are restaurants to dine, just watch the times that they might be closed. Locals are somewhat nice and not very helpful. Never ask an older person for help, they will just talk about how they hate tourists. Also, watch out for the dog poop. Either than that, get lost and find treasures in this cute town!

Good playground area for children at least for our "sadly not always excellent standards". Surprisingly good, large and clean publict toilets less than 50 meters away from the playground area itself (not sure whether I was lucky :-)

Marina
Marina di Stabia is a vibrant and modern harbor that attracts both experienced sailors and curious travelers. The lively atmosphere is filled with luxury yachts and the cheerful chatter of visitors, creating an unforgettable nautical experience. From exploring the bustling harbor to admiring sleek vessels, there's anticipation for sea excursions along the captivating coastline. The marina offers fantastic facilities, helpful attendants at the fuelling station, and a humorous guard who ensures visitors find their way.
Marina is simply great. One will find showers and toilets at multiple spots around marina. Plenty of room to moor the boats at piers and pontoons. There is a restaurant offering decent food at regular pricing. Pizza is very tasty. Marina offers free shuttle bus to the town. In mid season you'd need to ask the driver for the phone number and align on the transfer back from the town as the bus may not leave marina if there are no passengers towards the town.
Oleksiy R — Google review
Awful marina. We were there in August: more than 200€ per night, but for electricity and water you need to pay extra money. Safety level is also low, no security gates, everyone can get to any yacht… women showers and toilets were open despite the security code (this code didn’t work so it was open), so any person can get into it. For what I paid such money?
Google review
This is a huge marina close by Naples. Nice views, safe place and lovely agents. Quietly for walking even when is late and darkness.
Lidia H — Google review
We hired a motor boat from here, the guard was humerous and helpful when we arrived, making sure we got to the correct quay. The toilet facilities were fantastic and the fuelling station attendants were very helpful. As for the yachts moored there... inspiration enough for any budding entrepreneur.

If you’re going to pick up provisions here. Don’t go there as I was charged 700 euros just to pick up provisions. Day light robbery this port.
John H — Google review
Nice mooring facilities. No diesel available when we visited. Toilets not very clean. Difficult to get taxis.
Rupert N — Google review
Its a nice marina, staff are multi lingual and helpful. Downsides are that it is quite away from the town and shops, although a free mini bus is available and the the berthing fees are pretty steep, 380€ a day ( plus water and electricity) for our 24m Ketch.

A modern marina with good security. Let down by poor condition of showers/toilet blocks and being surrounded by derelict buildings. Castellammare di Stabia is pretty grim too, however the club house restaurant is superb!

If you're planning a visit to the iconic Pompeii ruins, MAXI PARKING is an excellent choice for your parking needs. Conveniently located near the archaeological site, this spacious and secure parking facility offers wider parking strips than typical Italian car parks, ensuring that your vehicle remains safe from any accidental bumps. While some may find the daily rate of $15 a bit steep—especially for short-term stays—the ease of access and proximity to local attractions make it worthwhile.
Safe and convenient parking for 10€/day if paid online. EV charging available on-site 10€ per full charge.
Pāvels L — Google review
Parking is good, but they will charge you 20€ independent of the time you stay (if you leave before 22h00, otherwise, they will charge you 25 if you leave between 22h and 24h). Leaving after 00h00 is another full day. At least they are open about it when you enter the parking.
Gabriel P — Google review
Very easy and safe parking no issues at all. Only thing, it's expensive, €15 for the day. However, it's very easy and has a supermarket right next door, which is very useful.
S S — Google review
A sales representative on the street attracts cars and haggles. Tried us at €15, quickly went down to €10 The parking was 60% free, I entered only to finish a phone call. Tried to leave 10 min later and was forced by rude staff (chasing me with e-scooter and shouting) to pay the full amount. Better avoid - also consider looking up the free parking not too far away from the ruins. Edit: - the review gets a bump from 1 to 2 stars for the courtesy of the manager to answer! Appreciated! - the comment by the manager is partially correct, yet doesn’t cover the whole story - I did enter, so I can finish my call, without being bothered by the sales representative, and then decide what to do.. these guys are fairly pushy. In any case, €10 charge for 10 mins stay (whatever the circumstances) is absurd. It was communicated by “we’ve issued a tax invoice, pay up!” by guy on a scooter screaming at me… 1) not really a tax invoice, rather a disposable hand written note - You get these as standard at parking lots. An actual receipt is issued upon asking 2) it’s nice to see the “Mister” pronoun here, yet the staff on premise was rude I was left with a bitter feeling of a tourist trap - they will do anything to get You in, at the highest price You bite. Then come up with nonesense in loud voice, if needed. Better avoid this place
Georgi N — Google review
Booked the ticket online. No problems onsite. I am an American tourist, and no one tried to scam me out of more money. It was simple and easy to park. I’m taking one star because I think ten dollars is too expensive for short term parking. Five would have been a fair price.
Melody C — Google review
I think I got scammed by those people who called me from far away, there is a line of parkings and this parking is the first one, it is true that it is clearly written that the parking is for the archaeological park of Pompeii, but it was necessary to check with the others too, I find that 20 euros is too expensive especially since I only took 3 hours to visit the site. The guy at the parking did not even try to offer a commercial gesture because at the beginning we had negotiated 20 euros for the whole day, at my return I did not ask for anything, they did not offer anything either, they forced me to pay cash because supposedly the machine is broken, I did not have a parking ticket or anything at all ...
Fayçal S — Google review
Parking was good and safe, but I can highly recommend to check the parking lott next to pompei site, there was allot cheaper park places than this. Use this only if there is no other option

If you're planning to explore the stunning sights of Pompei, Hertz Autonoleggio at the Pompei Railway Station on Piazza 29 Marzo is a fantastic option for car rentals. This location offers a friendly and accommodating service, with staff members like DARYO who are known for their helpfulness and English proficiency. While it's just a short walk from the bus station, be cautious about local taxi drivers who may overcharge unsuspecting tourists.
When we arrived we dealt with a gentlemen named DARYO. DARYO was exceptionally nice, on time , and accommodating. We have nothing but good and recommendations regarding the facility and the way we were dealt with. A 5 star service.

Be aware of this place. We checked the prices before from online and after we went to the office nobody was there, even though the internet and office door said that its open. We contacted him and he said that he’s 10 minutes away from the office. Eventually we waited him for 40 minutes. No apologies. First thing he tries to fool us to pay 250, even though every online site tells the price around 77 for 3 days. After telling him the price from his own website as trying to negotiate, he gets arrogant and upset. Then he tell us to buy it from the website ourself, otherwise he couldn’t get the car for us. Wondering if we wouldn’t have internet on our phone... Eventually got a desent car and rest of it went well. But he has an cocky attitude.

A bit of a walk from the bus station. The Hertz Rental car attendant is very nice and speaks passable English, certainly more fluency in English than I have in Italian. The taxi drivers at the station here are crooks though. Don't take a taxi from here unless you are desperate. They tried to charge me 20 euros to go 2.2 km (1 mile). Quiet, peaceful, and a very comfortable room within close distance to the ruins and Mount Vesuvius. Breakfast was delightful which included ripe figs from their own trees! (Translated by Google) The ideal location for visiting the excavations (accessed through the amphitheater entrance) is definitely a plus; it's just a stone's throw from the center, and the helpfulness of the girl who welcomed us (Valentina, I think). Unfortunately, however, our stay wasn't ideal: the air conditioning was leaking (we notified you upon arrival), making it impractical to use, especially considering there were three of us in a room at the end of August. Furthermore, the bathroom window remained open (it wouldn't close). The same situation applied to the outside door to the terrace, and by leaving the inside French window open to let in air, we had to hope no intruders would break in.

Scavi di Stabia - Villa San Marco is a Roman site located at a seaside resort that was buried in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. The excavations, conducted in the mid-1700s and more recently, have revealed villas, artifacts, and frescoes from ancient Rome. The site is well-preserved, although many antiquities and larger frescoes were removed and can now be found on display at the Naples Archaeological Museum.

Jœ — Google review

No queues and free entry, an amazingly huge villa with a great view, a must visit location in my opinion - ideal to get an idea of pre-Vesuvius Roman times and don't fancy the much longer walk around Pompeii or Herculaneum.
Alex V — Google review
Villa San Marco. I visited 3 different villas outside Herculaneum and Pompei, loved them all, but this one was my favorite. Don't know why. It is a bit twisted. Half of the house goes in 45 degrees. And many of the wall paintings were taken by Bourbons, they are in Naples Archeological Museum, replaced by the photos. Even the faded wall paintings were just mesmerizing. This atrium blew my mind.

The Famous Beach of De Simone Catello is a shingle beach located in the Amalfi Coast that offers stunning views of Mount Vesuvius. It is known for its cocktail bar which provides regular live music and DJ sets, creating a vibrant atmosphere for visitors to enjoy. The location is clean, pleasant and suitable for those who want to have one last swim before leaving the Amalfi coast. Overall, this lido provides an excellent location with beautiful views and entertainment options.
Clean, loved the view, music in afternoon and the water was clean. Snack bar was pricey but it's like that everywhere. Bathroom was also clean.they also give a parking voucher for $4 euro. It cost us 60 euro for 2 chairs, umbrella and parking. Pricey but typically and worth the pleasant day we had.

Clean water and nice view of Vesuvius. Went in after 2:30 so the bed was 11 euros per person and 10 euros for the umbrella. The beachside is rocky so bring shoes!
June L — Google review
Cool looking beach BUT… False advertising on entrance. We arrived late, asked about how long can we stay - since we want to see the sunset - “oh, there is no limit for you to stay” and after paying full daily price - we were asked to leave after 2 hours. MUPM Also, bar prices are way over inflated in comparison of beaches nearby.

Nestled in the heart of Castellammare di Stabia, the Co-Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption and Saint Catellus is a hidden gem that beautifully reflects the city's rich history. This stunning church, dedicated to the patron saint San Catello, boasts impressive architecture reminiscent of larger cathedrals like St. Peter's.
This was a bonus stop without planning it and it was well worth it. I felt like a got a smaller version of St. Peter’s for free. It’s really well up kept and has a ton of postage as well as a mass hall where they still hold service. The front doors are pretty astounding for the scales and amount of detail. This is a short train ride from Naples for $7-10 round trip, make sure to add to your list.

You aren't really meant to go here. When we went to Castellammare it was an amazing experience, probably the poorest place we have seen in Western Europe. But the people were friendly and the cathedral is astonishing, an almost completely unspoiled early Renaissance masterpiece. An absolute gem of a place.

Once a royal retreat and family villa, this majestic palace has been meticulously restored to preserve its grandeur. Visitors are welcomed into an enchanting atmosphere where professional staff ensure an exceptional experience. Had one person show us to the museum entrance (inside the courtyard), no one was around, so we waited just inside out the rain at the desk (all doors open and ropes for queing in place, looked very open). Security came and aggressively shouted at us & could see we were very confused tourists, walked us out and showed us a tiny sign (which is easily missed) outside of the courtyard saying it was closed for construction. Partner then was bitten several times by a dog as we walked back to the car, no help from the security. A local helpfully came to help while the staff watched. Very unpleasant experience, handled very poorly, especially when it was not made clear it was closed & had someone inside the courtyard pointed us where to go

(Translated by Google) We discovered the site almost by chance by searching on Maps. When we arrived at the address we found a construction site in progress... but don't be discouraged by the unorthodox access, or the unpromising appearance of the building: the Libero D'Orsi Archaeological Museum of Stabia was inaugurated in 2020, and I personally believe that it should be the first point that all visitors should see to have an overview of the archaeological excavations of Castellammare. The museum itinerary is equipped with multimedia and interactive contents, as well as models and finds extracted from Villa Arianna and Villa S. Marco, the two main excavation sites. I highly recommend the visit, also for the wonderful view you will have of the plain, up to Vesuvius! How to reach the site: - it takes about 35 minutes on foot from the center of Castellammare di Stabia, but I don't recommend it for those who aren't used to walking: the slope is quite steep. - by bus it is about 20 minutes from Piazzale Matteotti di Castellammare, to the "Reggia Quisisana" stop along the Strada Panoramica; from there it's a 500 meter walk. Alternatively, if you purchase a ticket for the Pompeii Archaeological Park with the "Area Stabiae" visit option, you can use a shuttle that will take you to the various sites (Villa S. Marco/Villa Arianna/Reggia di Quisisana). - it is possible to reach the site by car, but as it is a narrow road, parking space nearby is limited.

(Translated by Google) A splendid Sanctuary!!!!! To be able to enjoy its beauties, when you are on the Sorrento state road towards Sorrento, turn right in front of the Byzantine-built castle which gives its name to the city and which the Duke of Sorrento had built at the end of the 1000s to defend the only access road to the peninsula. The road climbs with a slope that in a few minutes takes you to about 500 meters above sea level until you discover this small church with three rooms with a central arch and two very narrow lateral ones that the Benedictines built at the end of the 1000s with the Madonna depicted in Byzantine style between San Cataldo, patron saint of Sorrento and San Giovanni. The appearance of the Madonna is truly reassuring and a pause for reflection and reconstruction of the soul is necessary, aided by the reflections of the Franciscans who bring the Word up to date with simple and effective rhetoric. On the side, a splendid observation point on the Badilica di Pozzano below, the legendary shipyards where the first iron NSVE was launched and the famous Amerigo Vespucci. In the background the breathtaking beauty of the Castellammare seafront with the Rovigliano rock (Hercules' Stone) which legend has it was thrown by Hercules on the return of the X of the twelve labours. The powerful and almost threatening grandeur of Vesuvius interrupts the gaze towards infinity. Outside, meeting rooms and hostels. Don't miss it!!!! (Original) Uno splendido Santuario!!!!! All esterno sale per riunioni e ostelli. Non ve la perdete!!!!

(Translated by Google) Beautiful structure with an incredible sea. For those arriving from Naples the position is strategic because it is super close compared to other similar places on the Amalfi coast. We were lucky enough to find parking on the blue lines, but further ahead there is a large parking lot on the left that is committed to keeping all the vehicles of the beaches along the road safe and it is quite cheap even if you then have to walk a bit to reach the beaches. Returning to the lido, they are very organized and the prices are honest, you find everything you need. The only flaw is that being attached to the free beach it is very chaotic and very often we were bothered by children who belonged to the beach next door and sneaked into the lido to play ball, the same also adults since the free beach was clogged. Overall however an excellent option for a quick day at the beach! P.s. The view is breathtaking! The Torre dell'Orologio is a unique octagonal tower situated in Piazzetta Cristoforo Colombo, commonly referred to as Piazza Orologio. Constructed in 1871 within the former Marina Grande and subsequently known as Largo Mercato, this architectural marvel was initially intended to serve as a visual reference point for both fishermen and distant ships. Presently, it stands as an exquisite symbol of Castellammare's historic district, showcasing its rich heritage.

Located in piazza Cristoforo Colombo, it was inaugurated in 1872. It stands in Piazza Cristoforo Colombo, but is known by all as Piazza Orologio, for the tower on which there is a clock. The citizens of the area asked for the installation of a luminous clock that could be seen from far away by fishermen and ships. It was thought possible to use the decommissioned Cantiere Navale clock, but it was subsequently decided to commission a new one from the Augusto Barnard company in Naples. The construction of a tower on which to place the clock was also established. In May 1872 the plant was inaugurated that included the tower at the top of which was placed the clock, with the bells that marked the hours and lighting due to a gas system. The clock was replaced by a new one in 196
OBAED U — Google review
(Translated by Google) In the century In the 16th century, the place where the clock tower stands today had the name of Marina Grande, as stated in a municipal resolution of 20 May 1519, and one of the city gates also existed there. In fact, the well-known Pacichelli table, engraved in 1703 and depicting the city at that time, indicates it as the gateway to the large marina. After its demolition, together with the entire defensive wall, a very large open space overlooking the sea opened up to the public, close to the port, a natural point of reference for those who wanted to display their merchandise for sale. The area, in this way, soon became a discreet commercial centre, so the toponym from Marina Grande transformed into that of Largo Mercato. Meanwhile, there was a need on the part of the citizens of the area to have a luminous clock that could be seen from afar by fishermen and ships at anchor, as at that time the personal use of the clock was not as widespread as it is today. (Original) Nel sec.

(Translated by Google) The Clock Tower of Castellammare di Stabia, often associated with the square of the same name, has a history deeply intertwined with that of the city and its port. Origins: In the 16th century, the area where the tower stands today was known as "Marina Grande" and was home to one of the city gates. This gate, along with the other defensive walls, was later demolished, creating a large square. The need for a clock: Over time, local fishermen and sailors expressed the need for a luminous clock that could also be seen from the sea, providing a precise reference point. Construction: The tower was built and lit with gas in 1872 to meet this need. Historical and social function: In addition to marking the time for sailors, the tower and the surrounding square have become an important focal point for city life, a market and meeting place, immortalized in numerous period prints and paintings.

Nestled in the heart of Castellammare di Stabia, the Monumento Ai Caduti stands as a poignant tribute to those who lost their lives during wartime, particularly between 1915 and 1918. Inaugurated on March 30, 1931, this striking memorial features a "Winged Victory" that symbolizes honor and remembrance. Originally designed by Renda in 1922, it underwent modifications to ensure its dignity was preserved.

(Translated by Google) In 1922 Renda presented the first sketch for the Stabia War Memorial which was inaugurated only nine years later, on 30 March 1931, because once the work was completed in 1929, he was asked to make changes to cover the nakedness of the legionaries . A small bronze plaque, placed in 1995, rededicates the monument to the fallen of all wars The monument to the fallen soldiers of the Great War stands in the center of a large square flowerbed, surrounded by an iron fence. At the corners of the white marble plinth there are four cubes on which ornamental planters rest. On the pedestal, also in white marble and marked by molded profiles, on which the commemorative inscription is engraved, stands the bronze statue of winged Victory. A second sculptural group, which depicts soldiers in combat and fallen for their country, adorns the central area of the same pedestal.

(Translated by Google) The arch stands where the Quartuccio gate had been located since the 14th century. This gate, together with the entire defensive wall, was partly demolished, because it was now useless, in approximately 1799. About thirty years later, in 1819, Vincenzo Vingiani, in order to enlarge his palace, asked for the definitive demolition of the remaining factory arch, but the strenuous opposition of Saverio Scelzo, first owner of the adjacent palace, later called Martingano, who obtained the personal intervention of the Provincial Intendant, prevented this project. All that remained was a residual factory arch on which a powerful statue of San Catello was placed following a request in 1840 by Gaetano Martingano, owner of the adjacent property.

The gate was called "del Quartuccio" and takes its name from the duty that was paid upon entry to the city for those who transported goods, and therefore paid a quarter of the value of the goods. The name of San Catello was attributed to it after 1840, when a statue of the patron saint was placed on top of the gate.
