Beautiful collection and very friendly and informative staff. We learned a lot about Irish history through source documents that helped form it. A must see!

An extensive collection of interesting books, maps, newspaper clippings, and other memorabilia of Irish history. The staff were kind, knowledgable and helpful. Free admission with donation boxes available.
Brandon C — Google review
Fascinating and entrancing collection of local and national historical artefacts, displayed with thought and sensitivity to the visitor. The use of technology to enhance your visit is perfectly balanced so that you can interact with some displays, but the sense that we’re looking into the past is never lost. Incredibly friendly and helpful staff make sure your visit is a pleasure.
Charlie A — Google review
A fascinating historical collection by a local man. The maps were particularly interesting to me as you rarely see such a vast collection together. A lovely touch was the variety of reading glasses available for use by visitors to read the small print on the maps and books/pamphlets. The staff were very welcoming and helpful and the grounds were delightful with fruit trees and vegetable beds dotted around the site which is used by local groups and for entertainment in summer months. Well worth a visit.
Marie N — Google review
What a great museum! Lovely staff and great collection!Introduction Video, Interactive methods and such an interesting life Mr. Clarke had lived plus the insights his collection gives us of the Irish history and our present. Definitely going back there!

I was really late to see the collection but the staff was amazing and a lady let me watch the 7 minutes film and browse the rooms. I love the Maps and Poster Rooms ! The garden look amazing and I wish I was here sooner to enjoy it more.

The Connacht Distillery offers an immersive experience in the world of craft whiskey, showcasing the process from grain to glass. In addition to their unique whiskey, visitors can also explore their gin and poitin offerings. The distillery provides informative tours with knowledgeable guides who make the experience engaging and entertaining. Even non-drinkers or designated drivers can enjoy the tour with special arrangements available.
I just read about the rebranding of Connaught Distillery. The new name is Ballina. They have just released two single malt whiskies. One Double distilled and one triple Distilled. I thought, Connaught Distillery only produced double distilled whiskey and it takes approximately 4 years to bottle Irish Whiskey, The new company are just over a year in charge. I don't know how they have achieved this.
Michael H — Google review
A lovely afternoon in one of the few distilleries you can find today in Ireland. Copper alembics, oak barrels and computers: factory that mashes ancient traditions and modern technologies. Our assistant during the tour was professional and attentive. The whiskey and gin samples tasting has been satisfying. Eventually, at the counter you can buy excellent quality spirits at a very convenient price.
Antonio B — Google review
My wife and I had an amazing time on our tour led by Cara! It was such an informative tour and so cool to see the active production floor as well as learn about the history of Irish whiskey. I especially loved the poitín and appreciated Cara sharing Connacht’s margarita recipe to make when we return home! Would recommend to anybody, it’s not only whiskey, they have other alcohols as well, and it’s a fun vibe!
Jeff M — Google review
Had an amazing whiskey tasting. Cian was knowledgeable, professional and made our time here at Connacht so very memorable. He should be recognized as an exceptional employee.
Brian G — Google review
As a novice whisky connoisseur I learnt heaps from this fabulous tour with Julia, the Master Blender from Germany. I was fascinated to learn about the distilling process. And the three tastings were just delicious!
Anne G — Google review
We had a wonderful tour and tasting. The team at Connacht is engaging and informative. Their whiskey is first rate and their passion for their process and product are contagious. Well worth the visit.
David B — Google review
Fantastic tour of the facility and excellent whiskey (spirits) tasting afterwards. Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff. Well worth a visit, excellent value. Can't wait to see how their whiskey turns out when it's ready.
John B — Google review
Good but not great whiskey. Nice showroom. Prices are a bit high for the quality of whiskey. Certainly interesting and worth the try if you are in the area.

Belleek Wood, located on the outskirts of Ballina along the river Moy, is a 200-acre forest park offering up to 6 miles of peaceful woodland pathways. The area is well-maintained by dedicated local volunteers and features signposted walks, diverse flora and fauna, and various trails to explore. Visitors can enjoy scenic views of the Moy River and spot wildlife such as swans, ducks, herons, and more.
Very beautiful park. A beautiful place for walks, running, recreation with a dog, rest with children, cycling and many others. It has a picnic area.
Robert M — Google review
Good sized parking lot and beautiful, wooded trails that meander along the way. They don’t have a bike rack, but there are a few posts you can put your bike on if that’s your mode of transport.
M. F — Google review
It's a lovely spot for a walk. Family friendly, but dogs must be kept on a lead. The paths are good, and there is even a fairy trail. Situated beside the River Moy and one part of the Belleek Castle estate. There are plenty of picnic benches around and loads of different trails, so take a map with you, they are situated at the start of the fairy trail. I would like to go back and walk a different route this time as I missed a few pieces of interest. I look forward to going back.
Lisa C — Google review

Les C — Google review
Beautiful walk with many interesting things to see.
Kristi M — Google review
A beautiful place to go for a walk with various different trails to take. The park is part of Belleek Castle Hotel which also has a cafe called Jack Finns which is ideal to stop off at for sometime nice. The park itself is family friendly and wheelchair accessible. There is a good amount of wildlife which include red squirrel 🐿️ can be seen in the park. There is a number of interesting features all around the park and there is plenty of seating areas ideal for a picnic too.
Aidan M — Google review
We found this was on our way to Downpatrick Head so decided to stop there on the way. I wish we had allocated more time to walking through the woods. There are both paved paths and trails. There is parking at the castle and also on the road leading up to the castle. The castle provides tours after 2pm for a small fee and has a cafe next door that is open much earlier. Both have public bathrooms.
Dave H — Google review
A lovely tranquil walk and explore through the Belleek Woods, ideal for dogs ( must be kept on a lead ) or with the family. A great trail of wooden houses attached to the trees to keep the kids entertained whilst on a walk - see pictures. Full of history and interesting facts which gorgeous scenery in every direction. A very clean and tidy place with wildlife singing from the trees, a great place to clear your head and de-stress. Belleek Woods is a 4.7 kilometer lightly trafficked loop trail located near Ballina, County Mayo, Ireland that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, running, and nature trips. More than two million trees were planted by the Knox Gore family in the 19th century, mostly Oak, Beech, Ash, Sycamore, Chestnut, Lime, Willow and Yew, many of which are still growing there and can be admired. Such a lovely place and if your close by I would recommend a visit.

Nestled in the heart of Ballina, the Ballina Arts Centre stands as a vibrant hub for cultural enthusiasts. This remarkable venue hosts an array of artistic events, from captivating dance exhibitions and live music performances to engaging educational talks and theatrical productions. With its modern facilities, it has become a cherished asset for both locals and visitors alike. The centre has welcomed numerous talented artists, comedians, and theatre groups over the years, promising an exciting lineup for future performances once circumstances allow.
Lovely building, but the peace and tranquility of the Moy and park was ruined by two ignorant, inconsiderate Yahoo's revving their jet skis on the river..!! Speeding up and down...so much for the salmon and peaceful fishermen...Will the Co Manager act??...Do we see snow here in Summer??
Gerard C — Google review
Employee arrives five minutes before the start of the show and tells myself and perhaps a dozen other people that we're in the wrong seats, gets us all up, then disappears to the sidelines as a crowd of 10-20 people are standing in the middle of the hall staring at eachother in confusion, the band walks in and starts playing, now we're all stood in front of the stage blocking the show for everyone, no one's clearing out our seats and the seats we thought were ours begin filling up so we're left with no seats... I stood around for a few minutes and then walked out, possibly the worst €30 I've ever spent.
Remigijus N — Google review
Overall a nice location. Cute bar/lounge, good acoustic. The one downside is that the seating provides very little leg room. As someone with arthritis in the knees I got fairly uncomfortable after an hour (of 3) and I'm by no means a tall woman. Just 1,63m. The concert itself was perfectly lovely though, as was the staff.
Nea S — Google review
An absolutely wonderful addition to the town’s facilities. Not many provincial towns can boast its own dedicated Arts Centre and fully modern theatre and events venue. There have been a wide variety of performing artists, theatre groups, singers, comedians and others hosted here over the years and many more to look forward to in the future when these current difficult times are over. In the meantime stay safe everyone.
Philip M — Google review
The performance was amazing, the people running the centre really lovely, great stage but the seat was a nightmare for me. Foot room restricted too much. It's unfortunate as it's a beautiful venue
Maura — Google review
Great very modern venue in perfect location. Parking only a short walk from main entrance. Coffee available in the main lobby. The auditorium has comfortable seats with plenty of leg room. Good atmosphere, Very friendly helpful staff. Nice views of the river Moy from upstairs. Nice place to take the family

Nestled near the charming town of Ballina, Ballina Golf Club boasts an impressive 18-hole parkland course that has been captivating golfers since its establishment in 1910. This scenic gem features lush fairways and meticulously maintained greens, all set against the stunning backdrop of the Ox Mountains. The course offers a delightful challenge for players of all skill levels, with varying tee options to accommodate everyone from beginners to seasoned pros.
Really enjoyed this course. Very well layed out, heavily tree lined so fairly challenging but also very enjoyable. Club pro was very friendly & helpful. The twilight green fees were great value also. Looking forward to returning for another round here.

Robert S — Google review
A scenic course. We were advised that the greens were not currently in good condition and agree with this but the rest of the course was great We enjoyed the long Par 5s and wide slopes with surprising little waterways over rises that you didn't see until the ball went into them lol. Get a score card was with map for directions. Toilet on 7th hole Pro shop was not open but finally found a very helpful lady. We enjoyed our game. Recommend. 2 Aussies on hols.

Superb 18 hole golf course. One of the most enjoyable rounds of golf I have played as a guest, with excellent greens and well maintained fairways. Eddie is a gent and the club is extremely friendly.
Seán N — Google review
Lovely course, we had the whole 18 holes to ourselves and course/greens were in top condition. Green keepers and clubhouse staff were super friendly. Will be returning again soon!
Tom S — Google review
Ballina Golf Club was founded in 1910 and has developed since then into what is now a fully mature, 18 hole parkland course which is considered to be one of the most scenic in the West of Ireland. It’s situated on the edge of Ballina town. It can be a demanding test from the back tee boxes but is manageable for all skill levels from the front markers. The modern clubhouse has full facilities including showers and pro-shop and also a bar and restaurant (hopefully soon to be open again as COVID restrictions are relaxed). The green fees are extremely reasonable and membership rates are very attractive with introductory rates on offer to beginners of all ages and students. It’s a very welcoming club which has none of the exclusivity or cliquishness associated with some clubs around the country. Everyone who plays golf, or wants to learn to, will find a really warm welcome here.
Philip M — Google review
The course is in good condition but the fairways grass is cut and the cuttings are left lying on the fairways which really takes away from the course. Great clubhouse.

The venue is known for being clean and well-maintained with reasonable snack options available.
Was my first time visiting the cinema and it was a blast, with lots of snacks to choose from, very clean, accessible and less busy
Lenhle S — Google review
Love this place. Fantastic facilities, great main screens and lots of options. Not too crowded usually
Aaron C — Google review
Awful cinema would give 0 stars if I could. Only have salt popcorn option. Cinema screen 1million degrees. Area we were sat in in screen 5 smelt of urine. Downstairs toilet have no lights so have to go upstairs. No locks on the toilet doors upstairs. Will go to Sligo cinema from now on.

My 8 year old daughter was left crying her eyes out as we were refused tickets to see lilo and stich today 1/6/2025. Only had cash on me and they would not accept it due to covid 19 rules apparently. It's 2025 like can we not go back to normal yet no? Do better IMC cinema. Cash is king and always will be.

Really nice spot and cinema experience is great with really friendly staff🙂
Jonathan E — Google review
Went there to see twister, Terrible experience. Staff was so rude expically the blonde hair girl with glasses, would bearly give you popcorn. A full house of young staff dosent want to work there. Dont expect to get served durning the movie because you wont find one staff member. Talking and messing throught the movie that resulted in people leaving, 9.50 for a ticket and nearly 13 for a combo, an expensive evening for a unenjoyable experience. Staff stoll in after the move and give a quick sweep, once again zero interest in being there and are nearly out the door before the crowd is even gone. Shoes ware sticking to the floor so it its well due a wash. Noone comes in to check on the movie to catch messers that are off for the summer. No cash payment so no idea how these youngsters have cards. Vaping going on throught the movie. Ill continue to go to castlebar and sligo. Wont be returing.
Michael C — Google review
I recently visited the IMC cinema and had an excellent experience. From the comfortable seats to the high-quality sound and picture, the movie-watching experience was top-notch. But what really made my visit special was the outstanding customer service provided by Graham, one of the cinema's employees. He went out of his way to ensure that my group had everything we needed. His friendly demeanor and attention to detail made the whole experience even more enjoyable. I highly recommend the IMC cinema and want to give a special shout out to Graham for making our visit truly exceptional.

I have visited this venue multiple times and have always found it to be clean and well-maintained. The selection of snacks on offer is reasonable and there are even student discounts available. While the venue can get busy at times, I recommend giving yourself plenty of time before the show begins. There are also several deals available online, including the Movie Meal Deal on Wednesdays, which includes a ticket, medium popcorn, and medium drink for €10.50. In addition to these conveniences, the staff at this venue are friendly and helpful. It's worth noting that there is limited parking available.

The Dolmen of the Four Maols is a megalithic structure located in a spectacular setting with views of surrounding hills. This ancient monument is made from large stones and offers insight into early history. The site is well-maintained and features explanatory signs providing further information about its significance.
While not of major excitement, this offers a simple access to our historical past without having to travel or climb. It is the burial place of four traitors known as the four maol, which in Irish means bald. They were in the service of monks at the time they murdered, and thus all had shaved heads. No cost to enter. Located almost in the town of Ballina.
The A — Google review
A surprisingly delightful spot for a picnic, we didn't realize it beforehand so we ate in our campervan. The are has a nice grassy green lawn, surrounding some large rocks, and the whole spot is secluded with a little shrubbery fence.
Andy S — Google review
Nice little spot that overlooks a part of Ballina town. The ground around the dolmen is well kept, but there is a industrial estate built right beside it. There isn't any parking space as it's just off a fairly busy road, but you can park in the industrial estate beside the dolmen and it's a couple of minutes walk.
Aidan M — Google review
Ancient monument in a spectacular location; the views on all sides hint at why the dolmen may have been built here- hills visible in the distance on all sides, and a peaceful distance from town today. There are several explanatory signs that offer further information as well.
Emily M — Google review
Nice small dolmen with a calm energy
Armel B — Google review
Great historic spot
Tierney C — Google review
Small dolmen, but nice and quiet also it's located close by a business park.
Werner S — Google review
A sign at the site tells us that this is a “Megalithic” structure. So what does Megalithic mean? Well “Mega” means “big” (we all know that!) and Prof Google tells us that “Lithos” is the Ancient Greek for “Stones”. So “Megalithic” basically means “big stones” or more usually a structure or monument made from big stones. And this monument, this Dolmen, is definitely made from big stones! It seems a lot of this type of “big stone” stuff was going on worldwide from about 2,500BC to about 250AD and the general consensus is that this particular Dolmen was erected about 2,000 years ago. A sobering thought. How did they do it? Why did they do it? Many structures / houses that were built in Ireland only 20 to 30 years ago are actually FALLING DOWN today! Ask homeowners in Mayo and Donegal (and elsewhere) about Mica and Pyrite and why their homes are falling down. This structure was built 2,000 years ago and is still standing proud. Makes you think, doesn’t it?

This was a wonderful and beautiful castle. The people are very accommodating, pleasant and welcoming. The dinner was amazing and the rack of lamb was savory. The room we had was cozy and comfortable, being able to close the wooden shutter on the window made the room nice and dark so we were able to get plenty of rest. The food and drink at the restaurant and cafe is top notch! Thanks for having us.

A Fairytale Wedding at Belleek Castle 🌿💍 We recently had the absolute joy of getting married at Belleek Castle, and it was nothing short of enchanting. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel like royalty — warm, attentive, and genuinely invested in making our day unforgettable. The castle itself is breathtaking: steeped in history, full of character, and surrounded by lush woodland that made for stunning photos. Every detail was perfect — the candlelit banquet hall, the roaring fireplaces, the exquisite food, and the seamless coordination by Eva and her team. Our guests are still raving about the atmosphere and the hospitality. Belleek Castle isn’t just a venue — it’s an experience. If you're dreaming of a romantic, storybook wedding in Ireland, this is the place. We’ll cherish our memories here forever. We would like to give a massive thank you to Eva, Steve, and all the staff at Belleek Castle.

I cannot commend the staff at Belleek castle enough - the bar manager Steven 🍻 kept our pints creamy, the waiters and hosts were so friendly, professional and calm ☺️. They went above and beyond for us to make our day special - Elaine the wedding planner is an angel. We had just over 130 guests which was a perfect number for the space and the photo backdrops available are unreal. The food was absolutely fantastic also!

Beautiful stately castle hotel on a gorgeous estate, surrounded by formal, historic lawns and grounds, plus forest. Be sure to take the tour of the castle, it's great, and learn about the castle's fascinating history and even the history of your ancestors. You are also taken into private rooms to see collections, including being able to handle ancient weaponry with gloves on, that normally one would never have access to. Excellent visit. And so reasonable for the tour.

had an all too short overnight trip here in November. Its a unique hotel, surprisingly warm given that its a castle/manor house, I loved our bedroom, and dinner in the library restaurant was really lovely (recommend the venison). We didn't have time to walk the grounds or take the tour so we plan to get back. Really excellent standard of staff experience/hospitality also

The Rosserk Friary is a stunning example of mid-15th century Franciscan architecture that still boasts many original details, including an eye-catching double piscina with intricate carvings of a round tower and two angels on either side of a Gothic arch.
Spectacular Friary ruins with plenty of rooms and spaces to explore. Multiple stone staircases lead you to a top floor with fireplaces still evident. Keep your eyes sharp for carvings throughout.

This historic abbey is a remarkable site to visit. Located just a short distance from the Wild Atlantic Way, it proved to be a fascinating place to explore, and we would wholeheartedly recommend it.

A beautiful secluded Abbey, well worth a visit. Lovely views all round and very close to Mary’s Well nearby, which is a very peaceful spot.

Wanted to waste some time with the family before check in time in hotel. This was perfect spot for 13y/o & 7y/o to get educated and some play around in all the rooms.

Amazing building. I spent over an hour here just looking and admiring it all. If the walls could only tell the stories they must hold

This might be my favourite ruins I've ever been to. As you walk around, it is easy to imagine it full of life. It would be amazing if they could get a roof on it again. It was well worth the drive to see it. It would be awesome for hide and seek.

Beautiful Friary overlooking the loch. Not much parking space but probably doesn't get much traffic anyway. Building is still well preserved and it's great to be able to access the second floor

Fr Peyton Memorial Centre is a remarkable spiritual heritage center set in beautiful expansive gardens. Visitors can explore the memorial site and also enjoy the amenities such as a souvenir shop and restaurant. The friendly staff adds to the welcoming atmosphere, making it a place where one can feel at home while being surrounded by the legacy of Fr Peyton.
A lovely place to visit. We have been visiting here for many years and it is always a place filled with peace. There is a lovely short film on the life and work of Fr. Payton. Walking the prayer path and visiting the chapel is wonderful. The nearby Ox mountains make for a lovely drive.

Monuments & Statues
One of the first things to note about the Humbert Memorial Monument is that, despite what one might have expected, the statue dominating the memorial is not of General Humbert. The statue is of the iconic Maid of Erin, sword in hand and Irish Wolfhound by her side, The monument commemorates the initial success of the French and Irish forces against the local English garrison in 1798. The French forces under General Humbert landed near Killala in August 1798 to support the United Irishmen rebellion. By the time the French contingent arrived in Mayo in August, the planned countrywide rebellion had by and large been put down. Nevertheless, Humbert’s small army (about 1000 men) was joined by Irish rebels (about 2000 men) and defeated the English forces (known as the Irish Militia) at the Battle of Castlebar after which Humbert declared a Republic of Connaught. Alas things went badly after that and Humbert’s forces were defeated at the Battle of Ballinamuck in Sept 1798. Humbert surrendered and he and his officers were returned to France. The Irish rebels who were captured, history tells us, were not so lucky and were victims of mass executions, including that of Matthew Tone, brother of Wolfe Tone. Many lives and many dreams were dashed in those terrible times. Some of us pass this memorial every day without realising all it commemorates. We should pause sometimes and think.
