The Ducal Palace, also known as Palazzo della Corgna, is a significant architectural gem commissioned in 1560. The interior boasts lavish frescoes by renowned artists depicting mythology and military exploits. Visitors can explore the walls surrounding the palace for stunning panoramic views of Lake Trasimeno. Additionally, it serves as an important exhibition area and museum within Castiglione del Lago, offering a captivating experience for history and art enthusiasts alike.
(Translated by Google) Visiting this palace, you have the opportunity to admire not only the interiors, whose rooms are frescoed in Mannerist style on the upper ceilings, using mythological themes, but also nature in its varied manifestations, represented by the sky, the water, and the beauty that surrounds them. From a door of the palace, in fact, you are suddenly catapulted into another world, consisting of a fortified fortress. Walking along its narrow and narrow walkway, you reach the keeps, where you can admire the expanse of serene Trasimeno, a lake basin that instills joy and tranquility. Everything you see suggests the power, pomp, and splendour of the Della Corgna family, who in the 16th century called upon Vignola and Alessi to build this splendid palace.

Nestled in the heart of Umbria, the Rocca del Leone stands as a remarkable testament to medieval military architecture. Constructed in 1247 by Frate Elia Coppi from Cortona, this fortress features an irregular pentagon shape adorned with five towers and three gates. Its centerpiece is a striking triangular keep that rises nearly 30 meters high, offering breathtaking panoramic views that stretch for miles.

(Translated by Google) Everything interesting can be seen from the outside; the only really interesting thing is the view from the tower. For history buffs, there's no information about the building's history, reconstructions, or any other historical information beyond what's already on Wikipedia. There are a few interesting ceiling paintings in the palace itself, but that's it. The reconstruction of the buildings is so-so. A lot of reinforced concrete was used. All in all, the museum, like much of the city, feels more like a tourist trap. There are far more interesting places for history buffs in the area.

Food is very good. Ingredients are well combined and dishes are nicely served. Service was polite and kind. Prices are a bit higher that usual, but from our experience, worth it. Only thing I would add is some butter and toast to beef tartare selection. Portion is big, but little something to add up and disperse the flavor was missing to me.

Ristorante La Cantina is a hidden gem in a small town, offering classic Umbrian-Tuscan dishes in an atmospheric vaulted space. The restaurant features both indoor tables and a leafy terrace with stunning views of the lake. While some diners enjoyed the pizza and beautiful garden seating, others found the presence of mosquitoes to be bothersome. The staff is described as kind and attentive, with efficient service.
Fabulous lunch overlooking the lake. We had the fixed menu which was excellent. Really interesting dishes based around the local fish. The carp porchetta was especially notable.
Graham C — Google review
My wife and I were in the area and hungry and wanted to get some lunch, so we chose this location out on convince. This place was overall "good" , however, I wouldn't go ranting about it. The servers seemed a bit "annoyed" that we were tourists. This was our first time experiencing that in Italy. We did ask to sit outside when there was no rain at all, especially since the view was spectacular; the server replied, "No, because of rain." We didn't push it because we were tourists (you know). The food was okay. We have had twice as good of food for half the price, but you are paying extra here for the location. The atmosphere was good, but not to go raving about. It was fine, but I expect others are better nearby.
Alex O — Google review
We came here for lunch during a day trip. Originally we wanted to eat pizza, but they don’t make it during lunch. We decided to try the pasta and it was SO fresh and tasted incredible, definitely not disappointed! Our kids ordered pasta with ragù and that tasted so good as well! Service was fast, Julia, our host was so friendly, kind, and very efficient. The atmosphere was relaxing as we sat in the garden. Highly recommend to stop by for lunch or dinner. 😃
Rau A — Google review
Outside seating was fabulous despite the umbrella that was supposed to cover our table was broken and we were super hot while we ate. Our steak was brought out and cut by a waiter and served to us which was nice.
Crystal H — Google review
Good place with good food, the service is fast and fair. Even without a booking they have accepted us to dine in there, they can communicate in English and the views are great.
Beatriz K — Google review
This place smells so good. I ordered the beef rib for 2 people and beef with potatoes. Honestly I was disappointed in the food. The rib was like no rib I had ever seen and it was mostly bone. My beef had twice the mushrooms that it had beef.
ERIC M — Google review
Absolutely fantastic. A very beautiful restaurant with a warm classic vibe. The food was spectacular. I would return to Perugia just to eat the sausage and mushroom pasta. Sensational.
JJ S — Google review
This is a lovely restaurant and even better if you book the outside terrace overlooking the lake! We had 2 meals here during our 2 week stay and both were great. The kids loved the pizzas and we enjoyed steak, pâté and cheese, all very tasty and fresh. A lovely spot for a relaxed meal with a nice atmosphere.

I was surprised with this place! We came here with zero expexctations and left happy! Great little fortress with amazing views at the lake. Perfect for a short visit with a child of 6 who is crazy about castles. We loved it! And oh, they had an open air movie theater inside. Too bad the movies in English are not shown every day.

Very fun and interesting. Might be very boring for young kids. Long walks and steep stairs, but still do-able. There was a really weird "projector room" that i thought was funny. Overall good visit. I suggest going into that projector room behind the black doors if you can. Also some cool(some weird) art.

Lovely castle/hill top village. Great views in good weather and museums to hide if it rains, lots of little shops if you want to buy locally made pieces and if you get hungry there is a great selection of bars/restaurants with authentic dishes from locality.

Although there aren't many informational postings in the rocca del leone, the views and level of access is amazing. You can explore the walls and towers and be treated to amazing views of the Trasimeno area. A visit is highly recommended if you are in the area--just be prepared for it to be a bit chillier/windier up top than it is in town.

The Confradernita of San Domenico is a small church nestled amidst the houses of the old town. Its interior is strikingly beautiful, with an exquisite coffered ceiling and stunning frescoes adorning the walls. This well-preserved place of worship captivates visitors with its charm and historical significance. Moreover, an oratory within showcases a remarkable fourteenth-century fresco that adds to its allure.

Giuseppe C — Google review
(Translated by Google) The Church of San Domenico was built, to fulfill a wish, in the 17th century on Via del Forte, a stone's throw from Piazza Gramsci. Built by the last Duke of Castiglione following a promise made to San Domenico for the recovery of his wife Eleonora. Externally it has a simple facade, internally it has a single nave of modest dimensions, the walls of which are painted to simulate stucco, aedicules, windows, etc. What catches the eye is the false wooden ceiling of the nave and the gilded wooden altar which occupies almost the entire back wall.

(Translated by Google) The church dedicated to San Domenico is located in the historic center of Castiglione del Lago, along Via del Forte. It is almost indistinguishable from the surrounding buildings, except when you're close by. Built in the first half of the 17th century by order of the Marquis della Corna, it features a large rectangular Baroque-style hall. Of particular note is the decorated coffered wooden ceiling. This Roman Catholic church occasionally hosts Mass. Currently, it appears somewhat neglected and in need of restoration, especially the organ. A wonderful restaurant with a stunning view of the lake. Unusual and very delicious food, excellent service. We had a mix of fish, focaccia, spaghetti, and drank nocciolato. Everything was very tasty and beautifully presented. Thank you so much. Guests from Israel.

The staff were able to accommodate my lack of English and even brought my kids snacks while we waited until they opened at 7pm (on a Tuesday) however I tried the "Filetto di carpa regina" and CONSTANTLY had to pick bones out of the three filets as I was eating. Not something I was expecting and definitely ruined my meal.

Pleasantly surprised after reading that the place was a tourist trap in a previous review. Friendly staff made us feel welcome with complimentary prosecco and bruschetta as appetizer. I ordered a really delicious crèpe with ricotta, tomatoes and zucchini. Finished with a fresh and tasty peach and melon dish with ice cream. A pleasant experience just by the lake.

This restaurant was one of the highlights of our trip! The focaccia was out of this world – almost like a pizza, perfectly crisp and flavorful, truly some of the best food I’ve had in Italy. We left already wanting to come back. Highly recommend!

Smart place on the lake near to the jetty. Nice outside seating in the bistro area.. Was quiet for a weekday lunch but the food was good and well presented without being great. Limited menu of salads and foccacia which was fine for a light lunch. Restaurant inside has a wider range of dishes.

Four of us had lunch today. The food was exquisite. Interesting menu. Super fresh ingredients. Beautifully cooked and presented. A cappuccino of tomato soup, pecorino flans, a delicate starter with fried eel. Superb pasta. Crepes with fungi porcini. Chocolate pudding and excellent panna cotta. Warm friendly service. Lovely location right on the lake. Yes there were tourists but don't let that put you off. Spotlessly clean. Gleaming. Welcoming. Super place. We have had houses not too far away for many years and had never been here before. We will definitely be back.

The service was very rude. The waitress took quite a long time to come take our order and then was rude when taking it. She never smiled and her responses to our questions were clip and rude. The coffee was fine and so was the jam filled croissant but it was nothing spectacular.

I was staying in an AirbnB in the same building and came here for breakfast three mornings in a row (cappuccino and croissants). Service was efficient and friendly each day and I was able to hang out and work. Other customers came and went and seemed to be served well also. I also had gelato one evening, that was great. Very good prices. I don't understand the poor reviews.

Quality of the food is terrible, “the best ice cream in town” is refrozen so contains ice chunks, 17mins before the cappuccino was delivered to our table, and espressowas cold. Repeatedly had to ask for our order, and still they forgot items, not worth the money

Nestled in the picturesque countryside just a few minutes from Assisi, Castello di Petrata is a charming 14th-century castle transformed into a polished hotel. The castle exudes character with wooden beams and medieval stonework, offering individually decorated rooms with modern comforts and stunning views of Monte Subasio, Assisi, and the surrounding hills. Guests can relax by the outdoor pool surrounded by olive groves or reserve the small spa for exclusive use.
Loved my first visit to Castello di Petrata this Summer. I was photographing James & Steph's wedding and I was really welcomed by the staff. They were really sweet towards my 12 year old Son who the couple had asked to come and be the second photographer for me. I loved the views overlooking Assisi too. I'd be keen to return one day! The bed was comfortable and clean. However the floor boards are noisy, could be heard in surrounding rooms. The air conditioning unit temperature was not adjustable. There was no USB charging points. They shower was good, the bathroom toilet seat was very loose. The sink waste pipes in copper and bronze need cleaning as it was covered in verdigris.

We recently visited the venue for our son's wedding on September 16th, 2025. If I could give 10 stars, I would. The setting is absolutely spectacular. This is a family owned establishment and the Castle, its' surroundings and the warm welcome were impeccable. Although they orchestrate one wedding after another during the busy wedding season, they made you feel so special and remained highly focused on making sure all your needs were met and that you were comfortable. The rooms in the castle are lovely and filled with antiques. The castle is OLD, so if you are expecting rooms like a high end hotel, then stay at another place. The charm of this place is the history and it is just breathtaking. The grounds are stunning, with gorgeous shrubs and flowers. The entrance where the bride walks down to the hill is dramatic and like no other. The welcome party was incredible. The food at the wedding was 5 star!! This was NOT your typical wedding food; the food was made with love, care, and was exceptional. I could go on and on. The owners were on site and at your disposal from the moment you arrived until you left. They bent over backwards to make sure you were comfortable and that all your needs were met. They run a wedding like a well-oiled machine. We had 110 guests and it was perfect. Also, all of their recommendations for bands, flowers, photography, etc. were wonderful. My son and his bride used the Brit Pops, who were amazing. Thank you to this incredible family owned business who made everyone's day so special. This wedding will be talked about for years to come!

One of the most amazing places I've ever been. The views, the serenity, the staff, everything is first class at Castello Di Petratra. The pool was clean and refreshing, the food was delicious (I recommend the spaghetti with olive oil and garlic) the drinks were perfect, and the rooms were a delight. We stayed in the Lavande suite out back and it was everything we needed and then some. On top of all that.. the wedding we attended here was a 10/10. If you're in the area I highly recommend getting to this place!

We stayed here as part of a wedding party, choosing the “glamping” option for accommodation. The venue is truly amazing, the grounds are beautiful, and the amenities are great. The pool was fantastic, as was the small Finnish sauna, jacuzzi, and steam room attached to the wellness centre. Our only hiccup came with the bell tent we stayed in, which was poorly set up with frayed ropes that ended up breaking, and with staff not attending to fix the tent despite being asked, due to no doubt other busy tasks — unfortunately it meant we had puddles of water inside our tent when arriving back late from the celebrations, with the tent walls also drooping over the mattress in an unpleasant way. Guests shouldn’t be left to try to create improvised fixes in the middle of the night…

We had a great stay at the Castello during our friends wedding here. Room was clean and serviced daily. Breakfast buffet includes eggs, yogurt, fruit, and charcuterie. Tip - go to the bar for proper espresso drinks instead of using the machines. Lunch available for additional fee, the salad and pasta were brought to us by the pool which was so convenient. Beautiful grounds with great sunset and views. Communal iron and ironing board available. Pool towels provided. Had onsite pasta making activity in the greenhouse type room which was so fun.

One of the most incredible wedding venues in all of Umbria. We’ve been photographing weddings for over 13 years, and Castello di Petrata is definitely in our top 3 locations. Beyond the undeniable beauty of the villa and its interiors, the experience the staff creates for you is something truly special. Priceless.

What a magical place. We were there for a wedding and the organization is just on point, professional yet somehow you almost feel like they are part of the family. All events were well orchestrated and the food was devine, something to please everyone. The Castello is beautiful with vines growing all over the walls, flowers and trees of all sorts naturally groomed, many different spaces and activities including pool table tennis and a pool. The only down side is the stink bugs, harmless but annoying but part of being in nature. HIGHLY recommend ❣️

(Translated by Google) Two towers that are not very flashy but have a truly interesting and centuries-old history. The Beccati Tower This was built by the Sienese in 1279, following a victory of the Guelphs over the Ghibellines, to symbolize their dominion over the marshy territories located right on the border between Siena and Perugia. The symbol of dominion was not only in the construction of the tower, but also in the name itself "Beccati Questo", as if the Sienese were mocking the Perugians by telling them "And now here, take this blow". In response, after a few years the Perugians reciprocated their opponents by building on the opposite bank, slightly raised on a small hill, a slightly higher and larger tower, which they called Torre di Beccati Quest'altro (or Beccati That), to respond in kind to the Sienese, mocking them in turn. This "bickering" never translated into open war between the two towers, which instead were rather used as gabelle stations, or to collect transit taxes from those crossing this stretch of the Valdichiana. Curiosity 1: The Beccati Tower This, built lower down, is currently largely underground. How come? Because that area, already unhealthy from before, at the end of 1400 began to end up right under the marshy water of the Valdichiana following the diversion of the Tresa, Rio Maggiore and Lake Trasimeno streams, carried out by the Papal State. Subsequently, the subsequent reclamation works of that swamp meant that about a third of the tower remained underground. Curiosity 2: But why in that area did conflicts escalate to the point of trying to mock each other even by building overlooking towers, and what connection is there with Valdichiana? Apart from the fact that the border between Tuscany and Umbria still passes through those few meters that separate the Beccati Questo and Beccati Questo'altro towers, and that the border lands have never been such a peaceful place, the other critical issue was due to the conformation of that place, which being marshy left little space for the countryside, which consequently became a particularly precious land to defend. More precisely, that territory became marshy in medieval times around the middle of the year 1000, following the construction of a dam on the Clanis River; in that way the Clanis River quickly ended up first filling its riverbed and then overflowing, thus flooding and swamping the surrounding lands of the Clanis Valley, that is, what now takes the name of Valdichiana. Come mai?

I noticed that the last part of the cycle path - from Sant'Arcangelo to Castiglione del Lago - is nearing completion with asphalting operations The route is incredible, never boring, not too long with its approximately 65 km and reaches fairytale villages. One more important comment: You shouldn't expect perfection from a cycle path otherwise it loses its original and wild charm (Original) Bella pista ciclopedonale e percorso ben segnalato: Work in progress... ho notato che l'ultima parte della ciclabile - da Sant'Arcangelo a Castiglione del lago - è in fase di ultimazione con operazioni di asfaltatura Il percorso è incredibile, mai noioso, non troppo lungo con i suoi 65 km circa e raggiunge borghi da favola. (Translated by Google) Ideal circuit for spending a day on a bike, but recommended in spring or autumn. In fact, in summer the sunny stretches, the heat and the swarms of midges and mosquitoes make this tour much less pleasant. By following the route on a cool April day, for example, you can enjoy the placid lake environment and the quiet Umbrian countryside among yellow rapeseed fields, flower gardens and newborn vegetation of various kinds. The complete tour of the lake is almost 60 km. Take time for a few breaks. Bring water with you as there are no drinking fountains. However, you pass through towns and villages where you can find bars and grocery stores open. The most appreciable thing is that the entire Trasimeno circuit can be done on this track in complete safety since you only have to proceed on the road for 4-5 short sections. In these, maximum attention is required because, especially near Castiglione del lago, the cars proceed on a straight line and tend to go quite fast. There is the possibility of renting bicycles in several points of the circuit (Passignano, San Savino...) To tour the lake I rented a city bike for the whole day for €20.

(Translated by Google) I'm staying at a mid-range rating. Positive and negative aspects. The tour of the lake is beautiful, not difficult, you touch the banks in several points. Track recently implemented. There are few stretches where he interrupts briefly. On the other hand, there are very few indications at the crossroads, you risk often taking a wrong turn and then turning back. Starting from Passignano, counterclockwise, the first water fountain encountered is about 50km away, after San Feliciano. It can be done without an assisted bike, all it takes is a little familiarity and legs. Without detours, just under 60 km in total. (Original) Resto su una valutazione a metà. Aspetti positivi e negativi.

(Translated by Google) The cycle path itself is average, nothing special (at least starting from Castiglione del Lago). However, I would like to focus on the choice to plant trees all close together in perfect order. From the photo below you can see what a cemetery looks like, like small headstones. Furthermore, I would like to understand if it is normal to plant them all so close together, won't they bother each other once they grow? (If they ever grow up). Finally, I would like to focus on the ecological damage: each plant has a plastic protective net and many have ribbons tied in the same material. The retinas are already starting to break and obviously the plastic is starting to spread. Soon I'm sure we will have a plastic lawn and a lot of pollution. Since no one is going to clean up to avoid the worst, I wonder if it wasn't possible to avoid plastic.

We are a family of 4 and we went with the youngest 7 year old without an electric bicycle, frankly it is not necessary (and the mountain bike option is obviously cheaper). The tour of the lake measures approximately 60km, but you can travel the first 15km up to Tuoro enjoying the landscape and the views of Trasimeno (all on dirt road, but easy) and then return calmly. The track is well signposted. At the moment the ring is not complete, not even up to Tuoro, so there will be a passage on asphalt, even if the road is secondary and with little traffic, so it can be traveled safely. Overall, recommended. What a peaceful location for beautiful vines. Our host was really welcoming and very knowledgeable. Perfect English and Italian. We tasted many different wines that delivered fabulous value for money. Now a few days on I am trying the rosato again and I still believe it is the nicest rosato I have found. The tour through the wines accompanied by three rescue dogs was lovely. Passing the most amazing house, pool, outside kitchen, tennis courts, which is available to hire and looks fabulous. Took the ferry there and back (6€/person). The island was nice to walk around and look at the old buildings. Apparently there is also a resort but we didn't have enought time to check that out. There are always informationboards in italien and english.

(Translated by Google) Pure island. Incredible views. Very pleasant paths. There are plenty of points of interest to visit. They don't hold our hands to find them, which gives a very nice discovery aspect.

(Translated by Google) Truly fascinating island. We felt very alone on the island. Very nice walk among the olive groves with different points of interest. (Original) Isola veramente affascinante.

(Translated by Google) Walking was tiring; all the paths were under the sun and there were many insects... (Original) Faticoso girare a piedi; tutti i percorsi sotto il sole e molti insetti...

(Translated by Google) Beautiful, quiet island. Great for walking. You can take a ferry to the island (duration approx. 10-15 minutes). Dogs and strollers (folded up) are allowed. There is a higher quality restaurant and an air-conditioned bar on the island. You can walk in various tours around the island. The ruins are ok. Unfortunately we couldn't get into the old chapel. You can do everything well with children and strollers. (See photos) The paths are paved with gravel. A bit difficult in some places, but doable. The island is a beautiful full day trip on not so hot days. Unfortunately there are a lot of mosquitoes. In San Feliciano there is a harbor café with a playground (photo). Ideal for waiting for the ferry (Original) Wunderschöne, ruhige Insel.

(Translated by Google) Small paradise where peace and tranquility are the ingredients for making nature grow and creating unique biodiversity. Ideal for regenerating and walking.
