Points of Interest & Landmarks
Fishguard Fort, located on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, holds historical significance as a key point during the Last Invasion of mainland Britain. Constructed in 1781 following an American privateer attack, it played a crucial role in deterring the French invasion force from Fishguard Harbour in 1797. The fort offers breathtaking views and provides access to the coastal walk. While it is a simple walled platform with four cannons, its historical importance and stunning vistas make it worth visiting.
Great vantage point for photographers, a little bit of local history.. Keep your dog on a lead of it like a wander like ours.. Cliffs everywhere l.

Not much left but good views, free to enter and free car park nearby. Coastal path goes right by.
Steve&alfie — Google review
Nice easy walk from the car park. Interesting information board. Enough still standing to make it worthwhile and lovely views.
Kevin T — Google review
Interesting ruins of an old fort with some walls and cannons remaining. You can either walk up here from the harbour area, or drive up to the nearby car park. Lovely views of Fishguard and Goodwick from up here.
Sean H — Google review
Lovely place. Old fort ruins. Cannons in great condition. Perfect view point. Free small carpark.
Patryk K — Google review
Great short walk uphill from the lower town, about 20 minutes, then take on the views. Coastal walk carries on this way.
Stephen O — Google review
Even with the wet weather, a nice walk down to the fort. Fairly steep so bear that in mind coming back up. Before the fort is a cliff walk of you want to. From the fort itself you have panoramic views. To the left see the cruise ship. To the right look down the bay. Lucky enough to see a Seal and her cub today. Would imagine on a clearer day youd see plenty more wildlife.

Pub
Restaurant
The Royal Oak, located in the heart of Fishguard, offers a diverse menu featuring dishes like oven-roasted belly pork and salt & pepper squid. The pub holds historical significance as it was where the French agreed to surrender during their failed invasion in 1797. Visitors can also explore the remains of a fort with stunning views and discover neolithic structures nearby. Managed by Daniel Morgan for six years, this long-standing establishment is known for its historic treaty signing and welcoming atmosphere.
We really wanted to eat good fish and chips that day. Initially we wanted to have it take away, but we decided to go to Royal Oak as the place looked interesting. We went to the garden where was really cosy. There was the outside bar where we could order our drinks and food. Food was served quite quickly and it was really delicious. Fish was amazing, chips as well. We liked the mushy peas and the Tatar sauce. Everything was the great composition. When we will be in Fishguard next time, we will visit Royal Oak again!
Justyna W — Google review
Good selection of cider. Lots of space. Bit busy on Friday night but as expected. Came back Sunday and had a good vegan burger. Very friendly and helpful staff and decent menu
Louise W — Google review
Historic establishment where the Peace Treaty was signed in 1797. Nice sized pub with a friendly atmosphere and sizeable beer garden out back. We ordered food here and whilst it was good, I feel the gammon could've been cooked a bit more. We ordered Duck breastfeeding dish and gammon steak. Drinks were good.
Chris C — Google review
Stopped off whilst driving around Wales for a lunch . We had sausage and mash. Very tasty and filling. Nice selection of beers/cider.
Duncan C — Google review
Popped in for a swift pint whilst waiting for my wife. Delicious pint of Wrecker ale for £4.70. Service was top quality, pub is massive with lots of dining area (will have to return for dinner!) And one of the biggest patio terraces ever with staggering views.

Visited quite a few times for drinks and food while we were on holiday. Amazing food and great atmosphere.
Joanne D — Google review
Visited this lovely pub twice in the past few days with our family. Both times the food was delicious, (Sunday roast on one visit & lamb & mint pie on the second visit), the service was friendly and the overall atmosphere was great. A beautiful & historic pub with a lovely terrace with views to die for - highly recommended

Theatr Gwaun is a fantastic community theater and cinema that offers a diverse range of entertainment options. In addition to screening a great selection of films, they also live stream performances from renowned institutions such as the National Opera, Royal Ballet, West End Shows, and the National Theatre. The venue actively engages with its local community by hosting various music festivals, showcasing talented musicians of all ages, and presenting regular performances by local groups. And let's not forget their annual Panto!
Absolutely LOVE Theatr Gwaun, all the volunteers are friendly and welcoming. It is our first choice of cinema. The popcorn is lush!! We also hired out the cinema for a private party and it was the perfect suprise gift if anyone is looking for that something special!

Beautiful theatre, best place to watch a film. Great to be able to have a drink as well.

I love this Theatre. It has a very comfortable community feel and the staff are so accommodating and welcoming. We had an amazing performance and the audience made it such a special night for us. Thank you. Sound guy was amazing too. A few rehearsal shots
Ma P — Google review
A wonderful community theatre/cinema supported by volunteers. A packed programme that includes live events. Charming old auditorium, with small bar, snacks and teas & coffees. Great atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Lindsay H — Google review
Delightful venue, nice intimate sized audience. Bar sells a good selection. Service a little slow in the interval but it's a community run venture with a lot of volunteers so I'm not complaining. Great range of different events and productions here.
Tess N — Google review
A fabulous community theatre/cinema showcasing not oy a great programme of films but live streams of the National Opera and Royal Ballet, West End Shows and the National Theatre. On top of that, it's roots are firmly in its community with a variety of musicians and music festivals, local groups of all ages performing regulary and of course the annual Panto! Run by the community for the community a night at Theatr Gwaun is a great experience.
Jay D — Google review
Went to Theatr Gwaun today as a family with 3 kids in their 20s to see Jurassic Park. Good film and sound system excellent - a wonderful experience in an old fashioned, small quirky cinema with lots of charm and ambiance. Time for tea and snacks as well as ice cream to enjoy before, after or during the film. All snacks reasonably priced and adult tickets costing £6.50. All staff helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend - loved it!

Rowing club
Fishguard Bay Yacht Club is a charming spot with a rich cultural history, as it was the setting for the silver screen adaptation of Dylan Thomas' Under Milk Wood. Visitors can enjoy delicious homemade food and drinks while taking in the picturesque views of the harbor. The menu offers a variety of options, including freshly caught fish and gluten-free choices. The friendly staff provide excellent service, making it an ideal place to relax and savor the delightful offerings.
This is the best accidental find of my life. We went for a drive and ended up here after a walk. The lobster roll I had was phenomenal and my wife had a freshly baked upside down cake. We sat by the harbour and had a very memorable time. I cannot wait to go back although we live 300miles away across mountains.
Sam — Google review
The staff were courteous . The establishment had both indoor and outdoor seating. The location on the quay is excellent. The only thing that let it down was the portion size. We ordered crey fish in a roll. The roll was tiny. Don't know if they'd run out of ingredients or the crey fish had escaped! We felt it wasn't value for money.
Ian H — Google review
Lovely little place with seating inside and out. We only stopped for ice cream but sea food aficionados will live the place! I’ve only reduced the score from 5 as it didn’t seem to allow for disabled access because of the building so it’s just for people to be aware. You could eat outside I guess but toilets were inside.
Rob S — Google review
Called in for a brew as we had seen the harbour from rd. Had bacon butties, reasonable prices and coffee in cafe .friendly staff pleasant view of harbour.
Duncan C — Google review
Nice sheltered Bay, ideal for kayaking or sailing, nothing much else to do in the harbour and the top town is a bit of a let down, a couple of chippies and pubs, there's a co op there, but if you park at the top there's a very steep hill to the bottom.

Had a lovely Sunday Morning trip out. First hint of Sun and we were by the water. We forgot how cold it can be despite the sun so ended up in the Ocean Lab cafe. We all enjoyed our breakfast. I had sausages on a Rustic Roll and it really hit the spot. Look forward to going again. With such a fabulous view of the Goodwick breakwater.

We ended up here accidentally after going to the rock pools, I didn’t looked at this but based on if you’ve decided not to go as it seemed a bit expensive for what was there? I’m so glad we went to use the toilet and purchased a ticket ticket. It was quite due to the time of day that we went in and the team that could not have been more helpful. They made my daughter feel special fantastic for information on what’s in the aquarium of white in there and allowed her to interact with animals that I experienced in any other aquarium I cannot be more grateful to the team and the kinds that they showed me and my family on a visit.
Philip B — Google review
Great tour through a conservation small aquarium. Excellent guide and lots of local info was shared. Porpoise conservation project was interesting.
Geoffrey N — Google review
Very interesting visit to the center and aquarium today. The guide was very informative and engaged well with the group. I liked seeing the various forms of sealife that was all locally sourced, and found it interesting how they are to be released back into the water later on. The tanks were quite small and everything was local so don't go in expecting big sharks and octopus and fish from all over, but I enjoyed what I saw! PS, big fan of Geezer the crab.
Sean H — Google review
Guided tour every half an hour. Very reasonably priced. £28 for 2 adults and 2 children to get in. Very knowledgeable tour guide through this small little aquarium, where you get to see a range of bones and understand the sheer size of a whale. Another little room with small tanks around the edges where you get to see fish, crabs, starfish, and even a baby shark. Inside, there is a handful of activities for the kids to do. We were lucky enough to have our tour at the time the terrapins needed feeding, so the kids got to do the feed. Some lifetime memories made!
Jessibeth15 — Google review
It's a catch and release little aquarium. Very informative when going around. Very interesting to hear about what they have. You have to wait for a slot, to be guided through. But that was fine. There is a lovely little cafe next to it. You can buy a ticket £8, then go back.
Mim H — Google review
Nice way to spend and hour or so learning about the local marine life. If you go at 15:00 the tour is loosely guided by marine biologists who are really well informed and happy to answer any questions. It's not big, but it's packed with interesting exhibits. The cafe was good too with decent value tasty food.
Darren B — Google review

This modern stone circle was established to commemorate the 1936 Eisteddfod in Fishguard and offers stunning views of Lower Town and the picturesque coastline.
Stone circle and sea view! Awesome! What a lovely place to just sit and relax. Amazing views of the sea and coastline. Loved the stone circle but couldn't find any information anywhere about it, though, which is a shame as it would make for interesting reading. (I enjoy local history) I like to bring a coffee here and enjoy it away from the everyday bustle.

Beautiful little spot over looking the harbour and beach. Very mystic feel when I was there with the fog rolling in on a bright sunny day. Looked like the sea was as high as the cliff edge

This is a modern stone circle celebrating the 1936 Eisteddfod in Fishguard. There is another stone circle in Lota Park nearby put in place for the 1986 Eisteddfod. There is some nearby street parking. You'll find benches for sitting and admiring the view. Just lower down is another bench by an old cannon.

Great little walk. Dog friendly. Wildlife. Views. If you’re new to Fishguard, this will give you a lovely opportunity to check out many parts of the area. Takes you from the ferry port area, around the headland on a lovely cliff walk, past the harbour, through the town, through some woods and a marsh. Beautiful.

Nice walk. Fully paved with great views. A bit steep in places. Some parts of the route have steps but there are alternatives if you can't navigate steps. Free carpark at the beginning and walked back through the town with a stop at a lovely cafe.

The garden features various sections including succulents, ferns, and meadows, all thoughtfully laid out to create an organic and natural ambiance. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely half-day stroll through the expansive grounds with their furry companions on a leash.
Stunning, peaceful and colourful garden tucked away in the beautiful Welsh countryside close to Fishguard. A beautiful spot to while away the hours on a sunny afternoon. It has a very relaxed feel and there are lots of lovely spots to sit or enjoy a picnic. There is a great little library too and a small plants sales area.
Liz B — Google review
Visiting this garden is an immersive experience. With its many and varied garden rooms and areas, each overflowing with a manic mixture of both familiar and unusual plants, you feel like you have stumbled across the passion project of an eccentric but highly knowledgeable plantsperson. If you love experimental gardening, this is well worth a visit. The garden is well-behaved dog-friendly, has picnic areas a WC, but no cafe, so bring your own lunch and sit and enjoy the ambience. Don't forget to visit the reading room/library (I now feel I need a garden library come sitting room in the heart of my garden).

Great informal gardens in a tranquil setting. Loved the numerous and amazing seating places where you could enjoy the peace and quietness of the place. Impressive number of species of plants. Nice secret library stocked full of eclectic books for you to glance through. Part of the RHS gardens scheme, so you do need to pay entrance fee. Recommended.

Very nice and peaceful, you can stroll around and enough the wonderful views whilst taking in the beautiful gardens. Lots of Salvia's to look at and buy.
Warren — Google review
What a great place. The gardens are gorgeous. Lots to see and plenty of walking, if you want to, but it isn't necessary to appreciate the gardens. Nice little coffee machine in the library, which has the most diverse and eclectic mix of books I've ever seen! We spent an hour in there, drinking our coffee and admiring the collection. It's not a huge carpark, but always managed to get parked. Being able to pay by card would be a bonus, but signal there is patchy, so probably not an option. Make sure you take cash to pay the entrance fee! The volunteers are very friendly and always on hand to answer any questions you may have about any of the plants.

Popped in on a Sunday for a light lunch. Had prawn baguette and a portion of chips. The absolute best I have ever eaten. Warm, soft bread, plenty of prawn filling and the chips are amazing, proper skin on chipped potatoes. Definitely recommend to all. Staff were lovely, just a few weird customers made the atmosphere a little tense. Overall 11/10.
Leisa N — Google review
Quite a nice space and friendly staff but pretty underwhelming food offering. We (party of three) had to change our order 10 times because the dish we ordered was unavailable. The food itself was nice enough but took a long time to come and the selection was pretty limited. One order also came incorrect. I think this is likely quite a nice place most of the time (staff friendly, location good) but the menu offering was too limited (and not marked as such) when we visited for me to give a higher rating. Dog-friendly on leads. Good ice cream selection too (but no dog ice creams).

Carreg Samson is a stunning neolithic dolmen located in Pembrokeshire coast, overlooking Abercastle harbour and the Irish Sea. The 5,000-year-old burial mound features a capstone resting on several upright stones, creating an impressive sight. Visitors can take a walk along the coastal path from Abercastle car park to reach this historical site and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and wonderful scenery.
Carreg Samson (also known as Carreg Sampson, Samson's Stone, or the Longhouse) is a 5000-year-old Neolithic dolmen located half a mile west of Abercastle near the Pembrokeshire Coast Path in Wales. It is called "Samson" because of a local legend that Saint Samson of Dol placed the capstone in position with his little finger. Carreg Samson has a capstone, 4.7 metres by 2.7 metres and 1.0 metre thick. The capstone rests on three of six stones 1.1 to 2.2 metres high. The whole burial chamber was once covered by a mound of earth or stones and once these were removed stones were used to block the holes in the sides of the tomb so that it could be used as a shelter for sheep. The site was excavated in 1968, which revealed four additional stone-holes, one having supported a further chamber stone, the others indicating a possible passage leading off to the northwest. Slight traces of a covering cairn were found to the south, and it was shown that the monument had been raised over a pit 0.8 metres deep, filled with clay and stones. Finds included a small quantity of burnt bone, pottery, and flints.

A twilight walk alone enhanced a deep sense of awe and ancient magick on a fine high summer night. So happy it is freely available and public. Great appreciation

Very interesting history with Carreg Samson, which is worth checking out. Fantastic views of the coastline and the walk up to the Dolmen was straightforward and well worth a visit.

A picturesque location. We loved every bit of this beautiful landscape of Wales.

Great place to visit & become involved with our ancient burial places for our ancestors

Amazing how huge the capstone is and how well it balances, great scenery all around too, nice spot.

Beautiful, spiritual place.with fabulous views.

It's a really interesting stop and it's a incredible example of Neolithic history once being a buried burial chamber. With parking by the farm and no designated parking it can be easy to miss / be a bit lost and there isn't much information at the site to celebrate it's history. But its a flat easy walk and I'd say well worth a stone bother if your into your standing stones. 😁

We stayed in Yorke Villa (no 23) in June 2023 and were blessed with a week of sunshine. Sailing club cafe is great for a meal and a pint in the Ship Inn is ideal

Visited in early November, and nothing was open. But stopped here to have our emergency packed lunch (just in case nothing was around/open) and it was very pleasant place to rest our feet, after a walk along the Marine Walk. There is a small public toilet further up towards the yacht club, but it's pretty rank 🤢. There is also a free car park here, but be aware, apparently it does suffer flooding here.

Lovely place to spend an hour or two. Nice walk along the harbourside from the Herrings to the sea at the end of the harbour. Never get bored with it.

A pleasent spot to stop. Walk along the quay, have coffee at the yacht club Cafe, enjoy the sheltered bay.

First time we stopped in lower town Fishguard. Loved the art. Shame the cafe was closed for winter visitors
Pam B — Google review
Great place to visit, the cafe on the harbour is lovely, Crab sandwich to die for at a very reasonable price. And they allow dogs in. And the carpark was free.

Not loads to see but the parking nearby is free and worth combining with Fishguard Fort and Marine Walk

Morning walk nice small waterfall
Adrian K — Google review
This is definitely not one of Wales finest waterfalls! Im not even sure waterfall is the right term. The “waterfall” is not signposted, probably the first red flag, we found the entrance to a local woodland track just off the main road by the bridge, the river flows to the left. About a 10 minutes in you come to a small rock face with water trickling down towards the river. We followed the track to what seemed a dead end - likely due to large amounts of tree fall.

Very steep hill, but great to be standing exactly where Sir Richard Burton stood many years ago. How times fly.

Well Richard did the hill climb before he was smoking 60 a day that's for sure. Nothing to mark the great man's "stopping and having a look see" at lower Fishguard. We took some pictures and broke a can open for RB.
