Seafood restaurant
Nestled in the charming maritime town of Topsham, just a short drive from Exeter, The Galley Restaurant is a must-visit for seafood enthusiasts. This upscale yet cozy eatery features exposed brick walls and local artwork, creating an inviting ambiance that attracts both locals and visitors alike. With its commitment to simplicity and freshness, The Galley prides itself on sourcing the finest fish and seafood directly from local waters, ensuring each dish showcases the best of Devon's culinary offerings.
The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was impressively fast. At first, I thought the portions might be small, but they were actually very satisfying and filling. Given the quality of the food, the prices felt incredibly reasonable—this is truly an honest and well-run restaurant. The dessert was outstanding! I’m not usually a fan of sweet treats, but the dark chocolate mousse was simply exceptional. It completely won me over. The staff were friendly, hardworking, and attentive, making the whole experience even better. A rare find in terms of both food quality and service. Highly recommended!

We had a full 3 course meal here with some of the supliments. For starters we had the scallop and makrel, both were great. Mains were good, the duck was worth the extra price. I would skip the veg though, as nothing special. Dessert was good. The souffle was very impressive. They'd also swapped out one of the options for a special, which was nice. Overall it's really good value and absolutely no complaints. Service was very attentive and friendly.
Nic A — Google review
For a restaurant that once held a Michelin star, our experience that evening was somewhat disappointing. The octopus was a little mushy and didn’t taste as fresh as we had hoped, and the plaice, though nicely presented, was far too salty and overwhelmed the natural flavor of the fish. Overall, the main courses didn’t quite live up to the restaurant’s reputation, which was a pity because we had been looking forward to dining here.
Chris W — Google review
The atmosphere is warm and inviting, creating a perfect setting for a relaxed dining experience. Although the menu is not extensive, each dish is thoughtfully prepared, showcasing well-balanced flavors and fresh ingredients. The seafood, in particular, is exceptionally fresh and cooked to perfection. Combined with attentive and friendly service, this restaurant delivers an outstanding overall experience. Will visit again when around the area

The food and the people were amazing. We had a delicious three-course meal. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wishes to try it.
Damien C — Google review
Award winning restaurant forgetting the basics. Food was excellently cooked but very small servings. The staff could not have been more disengaged, undertook bare minimum interaction and at times ignored us completely and very slow delivery of everything to the table. Tables are very close together resulting in frequent back sides stuck across your table and your chair incessantly being pushed as staff and customers push passed,
John T — Google review
Absolutely amazing and I do not say that lightly!! The waitresses were so fun and attentive, the owner? Filled my glass as soon as it was empty! Food was so tasty and really well cooked and presented. If you are reading the reviews to see if you should go... you definitely should!! Good food, good wine, ambience and friendly... what more do you need!
Clare 7 — Google review
I have a favour to ask anyone reading this review: please keep it between ourselves as I fear table availability might otherwise become scarce. To put it bluntly: the food here is scandalously good. My wife & I shared a starter & pud & ordered 2 mains. In terms of quality, we cd easily have been sitting in L'Enclume, or The Square, or J Sheekey's. Truly sensational but, as I say, keep it quiet please!

Seafood restaurant
Restaurant
Rockfish is a popular South West mini-chain with locations in Brixham, Dartmouth, Exeter, Exmouth, Plymouth and Torquay. The restaurant is known for its fresh fish and chip offerings that change daily based on the morning's catch from the fishing fleet in Brixham. Rockfish emphasizes sustainability with three sustainable options always available. At Rockfish Exeter, diners can enjoy locally landed and sustainable seafood cooked within hours of being caught.
We were a party of three and had an absolutely lovely experience at this top-notch fish restaurant in Exeter. One of us opted for the daily menu while the other two went for the haddock, which was beautifully cooked. We also shared a portion of calamari to start – fresh, crispy, and full of flavour. The service was exceptionally friendly and impressively quick, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere from the moment we arrived. Every dish we ordered exceeded expectations – fresh ingredients, well-prepared, and served piping hot. We were thoroughly pleased with the entire experience and wouldn’t hesitate to return. Highly recommended.
Enis M — Google review
If I lived local, I would eat here on a weekly basis. I absolutely love fish, but it must be fresh and simply cooked IMHO. This was my second visit in 3 years (too long) and once again, Rockfish delivered. Tempura Prawns and grilled Gurnard with Romesco. The main course was totally memorable. Coline was super efficient and friendly. All in all, a very special meal. Thanks to the Rockfish team.
Martin H — Google review
Great experience! The restaurant is spacious and with a great view. A waiter first came to explain what the available fish on the day were. We took the king scallops as a starter and the monkfish tail and the plaice as the main dish! Everything was amazing! All the waiters were very helpful and polite! We will definately come back :)
Gonkbaa — Google review
The chef's work was DIABOLICAL. 1) Whitebait tasted strongly of chemicals. A bad batch. I tried two and had to spit both out. I don't understand how a chef could taste these and send them out like that. 2) Sauce accompanying the hake was ridiculously strong and you couldn't taste any fish underneath. Aftertaste like dried herbs lasted for minutes and wouldn't go away after swilling with wine. I don't understand how a chef could taste such a sauce and send it out. 3) Dover sole was CAKED on both sides with large crystals of salt. It tasted like a mouthful of salt and nothing else. Literally tasted as salty as the sea, no exaggeration. After a few bites, I got those bumps on my tongue like when you've had too many crisps. In the photo you can see the salt crystals all over. Like 10 times what a sane amount of salt would be, no exaggeration. I just can't understand it. Praise: 1) Chips were excellent. 2) Excellent service in general, and in reducing the bill appropriately in particular. 3) Nice atmosphere. I would give this place a chance after a couple of months, after the dodgy chef has had time to either improve or move on.

We arrived here late on a Sunday evening without a reservation. They were very busy and we weren’t feeling overly optimistic that they’d be able to seat us! But the absolutely lovely lady who welcomed us in said they could seat us in 30 mins time. She then offered us a seat over by the bar area so we could enjoy a drink before our meal. We enjoyed a glass of Rockfish rose, the Portuguese tinto red wine and the Salcombe Breeze as we perused the menu. We ordered the spidercrab croquettes, the fish tacos and the haddock and chips. All were absolutely delicious! The seafood tasted super fresh and the flavours of the dishes were well balanced and very tasty. The staff were very helpful although I would say we were informed about the catches of the day maybe slightly too late as we had already made our minds up from looking at the menu provided and didn’t know there was even more to choose from! The atmosphere was lively when we arrived, and I think perhaps the restaurant would have benefitted from a little more sound insulation as it was quite loud. It was ok for me but my parents were struggling a little with the noise levels. Overall a fantastically delicious meal in a lovely setting in the Exeter Quay. We will be back!

Rockfish offers an outstanding seafood experience. The fish was as fresh as I could ever eat, perfectly prepared and full of rich, natural flavour. Each dish reflected real attention to detail, from presentation to seasoning. The menu offered a great balance of classic seafood dishes and modern twists, complemented by excellent service throughout the evening. The atmosphere was relaxed, making it a perfect night out with friends. Overall, one of the best seafood dining experiences I’ve had and a restaurant I would gladly return to.

Amazing spot! Delicious oat milk lattes. Really nice buzzy courtyard with tables out front, gives it a European city feel. Loads of amazing fresh baked goodies. Lovely friendly staff too. A really top notch spot.

Amazing café in the center of Exeter. There’s a variety of freshly made dishes available (including vegan and vegetarian options). The coffee’s delicious and the staff very friendly. Also you can tell that the interior is designed with love and lots of details. Highly recommend this place

Crowded space, very uncomfortable chairs, dirty tables and toilets, basic tea, croissants only served cold! Decorative items poor quality & just make for a cluttered appearance rather than the artisan ambiance being aimed for! Don’t visit! Expensive for a horrible experience.

Delicious food and kind staff. Dog friendly. The cafe is busy and not suitable for a cosy chat with a friend, but is perfect for a quick lunch, or takeaway. Thanks for feeding me frittata for the last year!

After traveling the world, hands down Jo and the team make one of, if not the best flat white I've ever had! Along with this there's a great ambiance, open kitchen, delicious homemade treats, sandwiches and a very generous serving of frittata! Can't recommend this place more and dont bother getting a coffee anywhere else!

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Exeter, Harry's Restaurant is a charming family-run establishment that has been delighting diners for over 30 years. With a diverse menu boasting over 75 dishes, including vegetarian and vegan options, there's something to satisfy every palate.
Harry's was everything I expected, a warm and cozy environment. Service was fantastic the staff were fast and welcoming. Came here for a Valentine's Day meal both me and my partner absolutely loved our meals the tuna steak was cooked to perfection (Credit the the chef) the blue cheese gnocchi that my partner had was also exceptional. Overall an amazing meal I will be coming again highly recommend.

This place is quite nice. I went there for my birthday meal with my partner😊 we had steaks ,but first we had calamari for a starter. The service was very good. I really liked the inside of the place . They have very beautiful and original wall wine shelf. I loved it .
Izzy — Google review
Still a go to for special occasions since almost 20 years! Found the seasoning lacking across all dishes we ordered, especially the main event - steak. The service was pleasant, professional and non-intrusive as always. The atmosphere and decor always cozy and special. Hopefully, the seasoning can be less reserved and more confident on next visit! Overall, still our favourite. Visited 29th April early dinner.
Antonomik — Google review
A lovely spot with charming ambiance, perfect for a relaxed meal with friends or family. While the dishes offer a more classic and simple flavor, the warm atmosphere and beautiful setting truly make it a delightful place to enjoy time together. For reply the Response from the owner: Thank you for your kind message. While I really appreciated the ambiance and service, the food didn’t quite meet my expectations compared to other places in a similar price range. I tried to keep the review positive and highlight the good parts, but honestly, I didn’t enjoy the food as much as I had hoped. Thank you again, and I wish your team all the best!
Phatt H — Google review
It was my sons 30th birthday today, and we enjoyed a fantastic lunch at Harry's. There were 8 of us, and the service was excellent, all meals out together and no-one had to wait. Some awesome dishes: roasted squash and burrata, beef carppacio, wild mushrooms on toast and whitebait. Followed by crab linguine, steaks, pork milanese, risotto and burger, and finally some excellent desserts.
Will M — Google review
Beautiful & quaint. Focusing on quality not quantity. Fresh produce. Attentive staff. The nicest cut of fillet that I've seen & tasted. The cheese soufflé was to die for. Worth the travel. Will definitely be returning

Fantastic food, relaxed and attentive service, the herb hake was incredible and the Bakewell tart so so delicious. First time we have eaten here and highly recommend this place.
Gary E — Google review
To the Harry’s team!….how wonderful you are! A beautiful classic venue with such a relaxing & genuine vibe!. The special board teased with a venison, Brie & cranberry burger & it was simply perfect! The balance of flavours divine! As we couldn’t decide on a main, my friend and I had to share two mains, so we got a little taste of more than one dish! The other dish was the classic lasagna, which strangely I have not tried at Harry‘s before. it was delicious although if we could have a little more of the wonderful beef Ragu through the middle next time That would make it even better! I can’t wait to come back next week to try the crab linguine or the hake….. That will be a tough choice! We only wish you had another venue a little closer to us! Thank you for providing this delightful place for us to feast in!

Quite easily the best meal i have ever eaten in a restaurant! Just WOW! I don’t think i’ll ever book anywhere else ever again! No where comes close to these guys! Superb! Do they have a Michelin star? If not, someone give them one or two!! Thankyou for having us and we’ll look forward to returning again!

We loved the food especially the roast pork. I don’t usually eat roast pork but this one is a must try and the ribeye steak.
Apol F — Google review
Been here twice and it's become my favourite restaurant in Exeter! First off, I have to say that the food here is really professional and the quality has been consistent so far. The bread board in the nibbles section was a good start to my meals. The sourdoughs was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside with a balsamic vinegar and olive oil dip, seeds and butter. For starters I had the goat cheese pie and the chicken liver parfait with apple, both looked and tasted amazing. I had the parfait at The Ivy but I could clearly tell the one here was higher quality. Then came on to the mains, I had the steak and the duck breast. Both meats were cooked pink and tender, with thoughtful choices of sides and sauces. The meats were basically Michelin level. I had the dessert of the cheese board last time and they used a perfect combination of 4 cheeses sourced from Devon, with a generous helping of fruit, crackers and bread. As for the wine, there were a lot of choices and unfortunately I don't know my wines so I can't tell you what I had exactly but trust me, you're in good hands here. The only downside here is the lack of staff. When I first got here, it took the host quite a few minutes to notice me.

Rendezvous Wine Bar is a gorgeous little spot tucked away in the heart of Exeter. Beautifully decorated with a warm, cozy atmosphere and super friendly staff. Restaurant
The Fat Pig is a unique and lively pub located in Exeter, known for its use of local produce and its own mini-brewery. The pub prides itself on serving delicious dishes made with fresh ingredients sourced from local farms, including their own game. In addition to their European-style menu, the pub offers a variety of in-house ales and spirits. The venue's quirky atmosphere and love for pooches make it a popular spot among locals and visitors alike.
Tiny is excellent, his Guinness is excellent, his teams service is relaxed and joyful making patrons so welcome and comfortable. And then you get to the food. Absolutely fantastic, had the lamb soup with chick peas, classic chicken dish breast on the bone cooked perfectly and then this apply flapjack crumble was a perfect end to a great meal and experience. Will be back every time I'm in town.

Absolutely loved our experience here! The Sunday Roast Beef and the Crispy Belly Pork were truly outstanding — full of flavor, tender, and perfectly cooked. Every bite was a delight! Just a little note: the Sunday roast is available only on Saturdays and Sundays, so make sure to plan your visit accordingly. The cozy little restaurant has such a warm and welcoming vibe, made even better by the lovely and friendly staff who made us feel right at home. No wonder the place fills up so quickly! Highly recommend booking in advance to secure your spot. Definitely a place we'd love to return to again and again.
Phatt H — Google review
Tens all round! Despite the signage suggesting something different about The Fat Pig, the entrance is through a bright yellow door straight off the street and suddenly you are immersed in an excitable, bubbly atmosphere in the main bar area. I can get loud, but isn't this a familiar trait of the best pubs. Beyond the bar area, there's a newer section with more tables for dining/drinking. There's even a beer shelf outside on the narrow link to Fore Street. The food's good too. Parking adjacent in a Ringo carpark. Definitely recommend. We went on a Friday night - it's open on other nights too!!
Nick M — Google review
This pub is one the finest we've been to. It absolutely deserves the reputation it has. The food, the beer, the atmosphere are all just spot on. The staff are extremely friendly and efficient. More pubs should be like this. Forget the Chains and seek out this pub!!
Ian B — Google review
Very relaxing and chilled, excellent food, staff friendly and good choice of beer, overall lovely place,,, if you want Sunday lunch you must book.
Andy N — Google review
I always think it's a good sign if a place has a small menu. The Fat Pig has 4-5 main dishes, which they do extremely well. I've heard a lot of compliments about the pub over the past 4 years and have been meaning to check it out for a while. Despite the word-of-mouth buzz, it still exceeded my expectations. The front bar was snug and busy, full of life. The restaurant area at the back had a lovely atmosphere, and I was tempted by much of the menu. The focaccia starter tasted like a mild American cornbread and had a hint of cumin. It was a welcome variation, and a good portion size for two. I enjoyed the crispy beef, but the star of the show for me was the gorgonzola tagliatelle. The balsamic glaze was the perfect touch, absolutely beautiful. While the dishes were a touch on the expensive side, I thought they were worth it. I would recommend this place highly.

While some patrons have expressed concerns about an automatic service charge added to the bill, the overall dining experience is accommodating for various dietary restrictions including vegan, gluten intolerance, and dairy intolerance.
This is a lovely restaurant right in the centre of Exeter, we came for breakfast and didn’t have to book a table as there was plenty of seating inside. The food was delicious. The atmosphere and decor of the restaurant is lovely. Definitely recommend this place for breakfast.

I can really recommend it. There is a very seldom combination of very tasty delicious food and extra-polite service. We had burgers, mushroom (instead of duck) curry and the Rib & Ranch plate. Great meal- great evening.

Restaurant
The Conservatory is a popular restaurant located on North Street in Exeter, not far from local theatres, galleries, bars, and pubs. The dining room features a restored Tudor wall and offers light, airy surroundings with relaxed furnishings. The menu showcases creative dishes made with seasonal produce and includes modern European cuisine with French, Mediterranean, and traditional English influences. The restaurant is known for its high-quality ingredients sourced from the surrounding countryside.
Walked tentatively into the restaurant through the two sets of stairs, but only took a few minutes to have a warm greeting from a member of the team and shown to our table. The menu was excellent and so was the wine selection. We chose our food and a lovely Portuguese Red, our favourite. Everything was excellent and the service was a perfect balance of attentive but not in your face. Loved every course. Will definitely be revisiting.

The best restaurant in Exeter, we have been coming here for years and the cooking is a consistently high standard. It's classic food done very well at an incredible price. There aren't any other restaurants of this calibre where a bottle of wine is under £20 either. The staff are always friendly and if you only have one meal in Exeter - visit here!
Greg B — Google review
My mum and I dined here while staying over in Exeter and were thoroughly impressed with the quality of the food for the price, really good value for money! We originally planned to go to The Ivy but weren't overly impressed with the menu choice and gluten-free options for my mum who is coeliac - so glad we came here instead! The menu was unique and interesting and the food was just delicious and perfectly cooked and presented. The shabby-chic style décor of the restaurant had a lovely, casual charm and loved the fish tank. We would definitely come back if we are ever in Exeter again!

Another excellent meal here. The set meal gives some great choices but it was a special occasion so I paid for supplements, scallops and pork belly stunning, as was the whole meal which everyone enjoyed

I have always enjoyed the food at the conservatory.. The lunch at £12 to £15 for 2 or 3 courses was really amazing value. Decent starter (Brie and chilli jam in a tartlet, and steak main (£3extra) and some amazing French style potatoes (really incredible). My wife loved her haddock main. Overall well worth a visit for lunch.

The food was excellent. The duck was flavoursome, the meat fell off the bone and the skin was a little crisp and very tasty. Lamb melted in your mouth and was really exceptional. The chicken was also very nicely flavoured and tender (I didn't try the salmon but I am told it was really yummy as well). For the desserts, the crème brûlée was really creamy and lovely and went very well with the chopped up strawberries that come with it. The chocolate délice was also a real indulgence, the raspberry sorbet on the side went with it perfectly. Also must add that the service was very good, they were timely with everything but not too fast, it was really pleasant a great place to go for a family meal or a nice date.

We arrived early for lunch. This place was located on a quiet street, but once inside the restaurant, you get light rush in from the conservatory windows. We ordered the 3 course meal, and all the dishes we had were well cooked. For the ham terrine, I would liked more watercress, but that’s the only complain I had.
Bobby L — Google review
Been here three times in the past two weeks because of how incredible this place is. The food is stunning and always perfectly cooked. The items on the menu's, both lunch and dinner are varied and are composed of very beautiful flavour combinations. A real treat of a place. I wouldn't bat an eye if this place was expensive as it's worth it 100%. And that's the thing, it's not expensive. It's actually cheap, especially for lunch. 3 courses at lunch = £13. And 3 at dinner is £30. Best restaurant gem in Exeter. You must go!

Double Locks is a popular 18th-century inn located by the canal locks, offering outdoor seating and cozy snug rooms with log fires. Situated about 20 minutes down the river from Exeter's city center, it provides a quaint setting to enjoy local beers and ciders while taking in waterside views. The pub offers a friendly atmosphere and is pet-friendly, making it an ideal spot for both you and your pooch.
Delicious Sunday lunch with friends at this gorgeous, picturesque pub by the canal. Daniella served us and is very friendly and cheerful. Great service! Thank you

The location and setting is amazing, especially outdoors in the summer. There is a good selection of beers, ales, and cider. I’m not a fan of the plastic serving cups though I understand why they have to do it on very busy days. They also ran out of tea and I had bring tea pots back to be able to order one. Again, not the end of the world but the service experience wasn’t brilliant overall. Only tried the scotch egg but it was lovely!
Graham N — Google review
We walked down the canal on a rather wet and windy Sunday. We saw kingfishers, swans and a heron. We had a roastwhich I would highly recommend. A good amount of beef, the tastiest potatoes and plenty of veg. We also finally tried the scotch eggs! They were divine! An amazingly relaxing and restful Sunday .

Had a nice oat milk Latte at Double Locks. Great views. Nice and friendly service. Quite a bit of litter around the pub and in the garden though. Big car park. Think they're having a big burn for November 5th judging by the pallet mountain in the garden!

Visited here for drinks after walking past this place on a visit to the area a couple of years ago. Was not disappointed. Friendly lady behind the bar who served our drinks and the price was reasonable in my opinion based on the location. Inside was cosy and there was a lot of choice on outdoor seating. Beer was great and the views around of the surrounding countryside and river added to the satisfaction of walking here from central Exeter. If I come to this area again, I will definitely call in here again. One final point is that I didn't have food here this time, but might do on a repeat visit.

Japanese restaurant
Goto, the new Japanese eatery in Exeter, provides a limited but satisfying range of traditional dishes such as sushi and sashimi. While situated slightly away from the city center on Fore Street, it is worth the stroll due to its authentic cuisine and welcoming staff. Notably, Goto offers tantalizing vegan options, including delectable agedashi tofu and tempura.
I highly recommend everyone to try this Japanese restaurant if you’re in the area. The food is incredibly fresh and delicious, and the service is warm and friendly, making you feel as if you’ve been transported to Japan. We had dinner here for two consecutive nights, and every dish was absolutely delightful. Our whole family loved it and thoroughly enjoyed dining here. The restaurant is very popular, so be sure to make a reservation in advance.

Service was amazing we had our order taken quickly and the starters soon followed. I tried both the Katsu Curry Rice and the Tonkotsu ramen both were amazing and very filling! The tasty warm curry with the rice felt like being hugged by my mother after a rainy day 😅 The house sake was nice and I also had chicken karaage for starter which was also really nice. Overall a great experience and I’ll definitely come back to Goto next time I’m in Exeter

Absolutely amazing experience! Small restaurant with lovely atmosphere. Food was to die for! I didn’t get the chance to take photos of our starters… They disappeared so fast! We had chicken Kara and chicken dumplings to start, together with Nakata Japanese Plum Wine and Pinot Grigio for my partner. For our mains we’ve chosen chicken curry ramen and a lot of sushi! We had Salmon Mango Sushi Roll, Spicy Tuna, Black Tiger Tempura Prawn, California Roll and Salmon Avocado Roll! We’ve tried Takara Plum Wine as well! Everything was extremely fresh and simply delicious! Our favourite was Salmon Mango Sushi roll and Nakata Plum wine. There are sooooo many options to choose from! We can not wait for our next visit! Service was spot on! Very friendly and polite staff! Will be returning and recommending to everyone! Thank you so much Goto!

A truly authentic Japanese meal. Me and my two sons had ramen today and the flavours were divine. Portions size is great, it's filling and good quality. Nestled on Magdalen Road in Exeter, Stage is a charming and stylish eatery that offers an unforgettable dining experience. This intimate restaurant, run by a close-knit group of friends, serves up delightful baked goods during the day and transforms into a culinary haven at night with its unique prix fixe lunch and dinner menus. What sets Stage apart is its surprise tasting menu—guests can choose between four or six courses crafted from seasonal ingredients that are either homegrown or locally sourced.
I had a vegan tasting menu. I let them know ahead of time. The food was exceptional the staff a delight the whole experience was great. The first incredible vegan dining experience I have had in Exeter in absolutely ages
Lisa B — Google review
I have mixed feelings about the Stage. The service was very good and the people were nice and friendly, explaining everything they were serving. I also liked that they make their own products, like bread and beer. We all had wine, apart from one of us, but they offered a glass of beer to my friend to try, which was a nice gesture. The food was very unusual flavours, but out of the 6 courses, the first 2 were really good, the other 2 were OK and the main one, which was ramen with beef, was tasteless and the beef very hard to chew. I liked the dessert, but it was very small, like everything. We liked the homemade bread though. Also the place wasn't particularly tasteful considering they offer expensive gourmet food. If the price was normal, I would go back to try a different menu. But for £55 pounds, I had higher expectations to be honest.
Fani D — Google review
Nice little bistro. The tasting menu was nice, some plates were out of this world and some others were just ok. All were beautifully presented plates. The homemade cloud bread was divine, as was the French onion soup! Staff were very friendly.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An absolute gem – the best place we’ve eaten in Exeter! From start to finish, our experience at Stage Exeter was exceptional. The service was fantastic — friendly, knowledgeable, and incredibly attentive. The whole place has such a warm, homely feel, and even though we were sat outside in October, it was perfectly cosy under the outdoor heater. The food was out of this world — creative, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. Every dish was full of flavour and made with real care and imagination. It’s clear that quality and detail are at the heart of everything they do. They also catered brilliantly for my nut allergy, which gave me complete peace of mind — a huge thank you for that. For the quality of food, service, and atmosphere, it’s amazing value for money. Without a doubt, Stage Exeter is the best place we’ve eaten in the city. If you haven’t tried it yet, I couldn’t recommend it more highly. We can’t wait to go back and bring more friends with us. Thanks for a wonderful evening!

Consistently good. No, consistently amazing! We’ve been over a dozen times now and Stage is utterly fabulous. It’s modern, laid back, passionate with eclectic easy music vibes and a buzzing atmosphere. This is all aside from the star of the show which is their stunning food! You never know what you’re going to get but you will be inspired by the flavours they put together. Lots of home grown veg, homemade charcuterie, home brewed ales and stouts, excellent wines. Each dish is carefully put together with fantastic sauces, layers upon layers of flavours, top quality ingredients paired with unexpected tastes. It’s a food journey, a foodie’s heaven, a feast of a show. Everything presented with a perfect verbal description from lovely people who care about your experience. This place is special.

The Flat is a cozy restaurant in Exeter known for its rustic ambiance and delicious vegetarian and vegan pizzas. With only seven tables, the place exudes an intimate yet relaxed vibe, making it perfect for a casual meal or a special date night. The hand-stretched organic pizzas, crafted by head chef Pietro who trained in Italy, have garnered acclaim for their artisanal quality. From truffle mushrooms to smoked vegan sausage, the toppings cater to diverse preferences.
As someone without dietary restrictions, I found myself enamored with this all vegetarian spot! First off, the pizza smells amazing. Secondly, the pizza comes with chili oil on the side. Thirdly, the pizza is one of the top 5 I’ve ever had in my life. The service was nice, and the experience was heightened by the awesome decor across the store. I really dug the vibe, and especially loved the window seat in the alcove. I can’t wait to return regularly during my stay here in Exeter!

This place serves the best pizza in town — every bite is pure perfection! I find myself ordering takeaway from here time and time again because the quality, flavor, and perfect crust never disappoint. The ingredients are fresh, the toppings are generous, and the aroma alone is irresistible. It’s truly the kind of pizza that keeps you coming back for more, making every meal feel like a little indulgent celebration. An absolute must-try for any pizza lover!

A bit disappointing.. Service was great, girl serving us super kind and attentive, the restaurant itself looks really nice. But the pizza wasn't great at all, it was so burnt I could only eat half of it, the dough flat and tasteless, needed some salt. It didn't look like the pizzas we saw when passing by, maybe they have another chef now. Drinks were very nice and the salad we had was lovely too, but overall I don't think I'll be coming back.

Great place for pizza. They only have vegetarian pizza, and the menu is not too big, which is a positive thing for me. Hands down the best tasting pizzas in Exeter. We took along along a meat eater and even he commented on how good his veggie pizza was. Almost everything can be made as a vegan option. Love being able to watch the chef preparing the food if you get a booth at the back. The milkshakes are delicious and side salads worth ordering! The service always really friendly. Never have room for dessert, must try harder to save some pizza to take home so I can fit one in. No photos as we were all starving and started eating before thinking about it.

Turk's Head is an Exeter-based microbrewery that offers experience days for those interested in brewing. The pub has reopened and offers a nice selection of brews and cider. However, some visitors found the capacity to be low, leading to queues outside despite empty tables inside. The bar area is described as long and narrow, but the rooms at the back are recommended for a better experience.
Rocket Queen burger was delicious… delivered very well quickly and love the pink paper and all the team were friendly. My friend had the mac and cheese, best she’s had in a while! Lovely little terrace which catches the sun beautifully. Thank you Charlie for the spritz, just what we needed for the hot day. I came here with my dad & father-in-law for a beer brewing experience day with the master brewer Tilly. The whole day was absolutely amazing, a personalised hands on experience brewing the Dickies Best bitter from start to finish. Tilly was an amazing host, very patient with us and explained everything clearly, answered all of our questions and the whole day was great fun. We had coffees through the morning & flites of various beers in the afternoon plus an amazing lunch (I had an awesome burger and chips). I had already visited the pub several times before and it's a fantastic place. The building itself is very quirky, they have loads of their own beers on tap and great food. They also have plenty of TV screens showing various sports. I would highly recommend coming to this pub and if you're up for something different then definitely try the brewing experience day with Tilly.

I would honestly give it 10 stars for the service and atmosphere, if I could. This pub has become my absolute Number 1 whenever I visit Exeter. Great selection of drinks, their beers made in house are AMAZING. The staff is friendly, helpful, and generally: there's just real good lively pub vibes. ⚠️❗️Deeply Discriminatory Experience I visited this restaurant on August 26, 2025, in the afternoon, and unfortunately, it was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve ever had. I genuinely felt that I was treated differently because of my race, and the whole experience left me extremely uncomfortable. From the moment I entered, the waiter who seated me was cold and unfriendly. Unlike other guests, I was not offered any water at all. Throughout my meal, I noticed that every other table — four other groups, all of whom were white — received complimentary water right away, while I did not. Given that there were only five tables occupied in total, it is hard to believe this was just an oversight. When I asked questions, the waiter looked visibly annoyed, frowning and appearing impatient. Later, I also noticed that other tables received dipping sauces for their fries, but I did not. I only received ketchup after I specifically asked for it. As the other tables were finishing their meals, the waiter went around and politely asked if they were satisfied and enjoying their food. I was the only guest not asked this, and the service toward me remained cold and dismissive throughout. At the end, when I paid, I directly asked the waiter whether I was being treated differently because I am Asian. He denied it, of course, but he showed no apology, no effort to make me feel welcome, and no acknowledgment of how poorly I had been treated. Whether the staff want to call this discrimination or “just a mistake,” the reality is that I was consistently given worse service than every other customer in the restaurant, and I cannot see any explanation other than racial bias. I left feeling unwelcome, disrespected, and disgusted. This restaurant should seriously reflect on its staff training and treatment of customers. No one should ever have to experience what I went through.
Ging L — Google review
I ordered a burger that arrived dangerously undercooked - the meat was pink and bloody throughout the center, which is unsafe for ground beef. This poses a serious food safety risk as ground meat needs to reach 160 F internally to eliminate harmful bacteria. Beyond the safety issues, the burger was also poor quality overall. The meat was fatty, flavorless, and had a dry texture despite being raw in the center. For the premium price point, I expected much better. Frankly, McDonald’s would have delivered a safer, tastier burger at a fraction of the cost.
Z R — Google review
From arriving, the staff were attentive but not pushy. The food was great in a fabulous location. Will be going back

A bit unsure about whether we had to order using the qr code due to a wait when we say sat down, but once I got someone's attention we were rolling. The restaurant boasts a beautifully decorated interior with warm lighting, exposed brick, and an outdoor dining area offering scenic views of the water. Had an amazing meal with my mum and brother here. Service was great, Molly was our waitress and she was very friendly and helpful with us ordering what we wanted. Food itself was really good, we especially liked the dough balls. Really recommend trying them if you haven't before, they were as good as last time I came here with some friends. Pizza dustbin 16" was very tasty, we had this between us with sides being the dough balls, coleslaw/houseslaw, and chips. Highly recommend going, we booked and I'd advise it as you're more likely to get pick of seat although they were very accommodating in any case.

Lovely river side place to be. Sunny seats out the front. Lovely inside. Clean toilets. They took a long while to make two latte drinks but they tasted nice. Place to be if you want pizza or a burger.

I don’t complain about food and haven’t in the last 5 years or so, but I had to send my katsu chicken burger back for to the size, the portion would of been great for a child as the chicken was the size of a wing, it had the smallest amount of katsu sauce with a tiny stale toasted bun, Was offered another meal so asked for a pulled pork pizza and was astonished how someone can make a pizza completely tasteless, over cooked and this was like it was eating straw, Over priced poor food with overpriced drinks, This is a real shame as a year ago or so this was a great place to eat. The server was great though as he done well looking after us all.

Let down slightly by some of the food: the dough balls were really dense and pork belly a bit mid - was looking for more flavour from it. Pizza is always a solid choice here and gets a 4/5. Generous toppings and a wide selection. Staff were friendly and attentive

This is the BEST PIZZA I HAVE EVER EATEN IN MY LIFE!! The sourdough crust is AWSOME!!! The garlic balls are great too.

Worst pizza I’ve ever had. I ordered a mushroom and squash pizza. Cubes of undercooked (boiled) crunchy squash and slimy tasteless mushrooms out of a jar chucked on a pizza for nearly £18. Not even a drizzle of oil or some herbs to flavour the veg on top. I will eat pretty much anything when hungry but it was disgusting. Not only that had to wait for nearly an hour when the place was not at all busy. I can see why now. Won’t be eating there again.

Came for food in a small party of 7 on a Monday evening. Very quiet in the restaurant only a couple of tables taken. Staff were fine, atmosphere was lacking didn’t seem to be any background music, was just very quiet. Food was very poor, we all had pizza n paid extra for stuffed crust. I would not recommend this, the crust was made far too big and ended up being half the pizza, and definitely was not stuffed! Myself and another had the Spanish sausage pizza, there appeared to be a serious shortage of toppings which was really disappointing and everyones pizza was undercooked in the middle. £18 for a pizza is absolutely ludicrous considering how cheap it is to make pizza, couple that with half the pizza being crust, hardly any toppings on an area that had already been made smaller by that crust and then being undercooked is simply just taking advantage. The restaurant was empty so you would think the chef had plenty of time to get it right but appeared they just could not be bothered. In an age where alot of businesses are trying to squeeze as much as they can from customers this place seems no different. Premium price pizza for sub par quality. I doubt i will be returning and definitely will not be recommending.

Hub Box Exeter is a cultural hub in the heart of the city, offering diverse attractions such as naval heritage collections, contemporary art installations, an interactive media lab, archive space, a shop and a bar. The center's mixed-media offerings include hyper-contemporary digital installations and giant reconstructions of woolly mammoths. Additionally, it is known for its juicy award-winning burgers and exceptional plant-based menu.
Old hub is back. Nice to see some of the old menu back. (Boston butt). Always the go to place for burgers. Dirty fries were another class. Thank you. (Burnt end beans are trash though, go back to the baked bean style not tomato sauce. Too dry)

So SO filling! Wonderful atmosphere and the waiter was efficient and friendly. We reserved a seat and got the perfect spot- exactly what we asked for. The milkshakes were the highlight of our visit, and were very sweet, much to our liking. The burgers were delicious, although large enough to fill you up on their own, and I would want a bit more veg, but overall a fantastic experience. Would come again!

The food was really good, especially if you are gluten free. There were so many GF options and that in itself is a 10/10. The structuring (at least on the patio) was what lost stars for me. We were seated outside and the staff member placed two different menus on a QR code we didn’t see. We had no idea that the QR code was how we ordered and no one ever said anything to us about it, not even when we were originally seated. We sat there for 30 minutes with waiters walking by and never saying anything to us. We were kinda shocked. Eventually I lifted up the Specials menu and say the QR code and felt really dumb, but again, that should have been mentioned that to us in the first place. Idk that was just crazy to me and not good service nor communication. The rest of the experience was fine and the food was good. But my sandwich did have a hair in it which was nasty and disappointing. But everything tasted great!!

Nice atmosphere at the terrace, although it was a little dirty for both of my visits. Food ranged between average and good depending on what you order: Big Dipper - slightly too salty with the gravy, Hand Cut Fries - not crispy nor fluffy and definitely stale, All Star - nice balance for a classic burger. Overall 3 stars due to the 30 minutes wait time on a fairly quiet Monday.

Burger was pretty good - the pickles were nice and crispy and the patty was cooked well. However, we waited 30 minutes for food to arrive and the fries were room temperature and weren’t crispy/fresh out the fryer. Our table was also dirty and we had to ask for it to be wiped. Overall experience was good, just a couple of areas for improvement!

Great bar. Didnt eat but the menu looked great. With good prices. Good service with a smile. Brought my drinks to the table and a cocktail was a fiver. No drunk people. Could smoke outside. Fully recommend and I will be back. Thank you 😊

Thank God Hubble delivers, because the noises I made eating that bacon jam burger were indecent for the public. I feel spent, debased, world turned upside down. They should have a monastic procession when presenting these things to you. The onions also insane? So crunchy?? So delicious. Huge portions. Loaded fries???? My eyes genuinely filled with actual tears of joy at how delicious this spread was. Thank you for your service.

Eat On The Green is a popular spot, especially on busy days like Sundays. While outdoor seating would be ideal, the cozy indoor space with ample room between tables and a wheelchair-friendly corner by the window was just as delightful. The Ulster breakfast, though not cheap, was worth every penny with its high-quality hogs pudding and perfectly made potato cake. The homemade lemonade and gluten-free full English were also highly recommended.
Found this place by chance and I'm glad we did. It was lovely to sit outside and have the beautiful scenery around. Food was amazing and so was the staff. Food came out quick and tasted very good. My parents were happy to find somewhere that had omelettes and my little one enjoyed his sandwich and chips very much. Definitely worth going here for lunch. You won't be disappointed.

Second time visiting this lovely little place looking over the catheridal green. The first time I tried the breakfast and the second time we had lunch and both occasions, the food was well presented, good portion sizes, and very tasty. I have to say the hot chocolate is one of the best ones I've ever had. It has seating outside and inside with an upstairs too. Staff are friendly. Would recommend visiting

We enjoyed the location next to the Cathedral and the food- especially the plentiful gluten free options and iced tea. Sit by the light pole if you want shade outside and there are no more umbrella tables. The chips/fries were excellent! My husband enjoyed the chicken sandwich. We were amused that you can add alcohol to the smoothies.

Met up with friends, enjoyed a lovely cream tea with fresh scones and delicious carrot cake. Confusion over whether we could have cake without a main course although it was 3pm, but it turned out that because we had booked for cream teas and requested a cake alternative option we were able to have it. Very generous portions. It was very busy but service was good once order was sorted.

Cosy Club in Exeter offers an eclectic dining experience with a menu featuring tapas, sandwiches, burgers, and mains. Housed in an old hospital chapel, the space is filled with quirky decor such as oil paintings, taxidermy, and surgical lighting inspired by an operating table. The restaurant boasts a mix of reclaimed furniture and Victorian lampshades alongside original 1960s Concorde hangar lights.
Ordered some takeaway drinks from here. Very quick service and reasonable prices. Located just up from Exeter Law Courts in a listed building that used to be the old hospital. The layout is very interesting with a lot of history on the walls. Even some of the lighting over the bar area is old hospital lighting which is very nice to see recycled and used. Staff are very attentive and welcoming.

Me and my friend visited Exeter for a couple of days. My friend has a pepper allergy and unfortunately twice in a row something went wrong with her meals at our hotel. So on our last evening we decided to go elsewhere. That evening we stepped into ‘The Cosy club’ on 1 Southernhays gardens, hoping three times is indeed a charm. And boy was it! We booked a table for two online which was very easy to do. We were warmly welcomed by Jack, he let us know he read about our allergies and was going to make sure everything went right. Well he sure did! Due to his diligence (and that of the head chef who also went above and beyond) we finally experienced a lovely scrumptious meal without the worry of needing medical assistance :-) He really made our last evening in Exeter an exceptional one. So if you are in Exeter and want a fantastic evening with a lovely meal in a charming atmosphere with friendly staff who understand their profession, please visit ‘The Cosy Club’ in Exeter. You will not regret it! Sharon

Cosy Club, Exeter. Once a hospital, now a restaurant, which is a bit like turning your old school into a cocktail bar. You sit there with a burger and chips where somebody once had their appendix out. The ceilings are high enough to lose a kite in, and every inch of the place is covered in furniture that looks like it was donated by aunts you don’t like. It’s a curated mess, but it sort of works. The staff are absurdly good. Smiling, attentive, as if they’ve mistaken you for someone important. They’ll even let your dog into the lounge, which is a surprise. You look around, half expecting someone to say “No dogs, no smoking, no fun” but instead they bring you water for the mutt and act like it’s the most natural thing in the world. The food is solid in that chain-restaurant way. I went for a burger on our visit. The burger is rib meat, which means flavour, fat, and an excuse for charging you more. They suggest adding Brie and bacon, which isn’t advice so much as an invoice. The fries arrive in a tin that looks generous until you poke around and realise it’s half-air. But the burger stays together, tastes decent, and doesn’t drown you in condiments. But. The meat’s from Cornwall, which is nice, but we’re in Devon. Cows here also have ribs. And the price is the sort of number that makes you start thinking about whether you should have cooked pasta at home. However, you sit there, full of meat and fries, the dog snoring under the table, and you think — this isn’t bad. It’s not great, it won’t change your life, but it’s not bad. Food delivered in a jumble-sale cathedral that used to hand out death certificates. Perfectly fine.

I really liked cosy club, food was amazing I had a three course graduation meal, from starter till dessert I didn't choose as I asked my server to choose for me. It was lovely and I'd reccomend that place again. The only thing I thought could be better was a Lil more conversation with my server, she did her job well but she could have done something to make me feel more welcomed. Nonetheless I'll go there again because it's lovely.

OMG the food was so good. I had the prawn starter and it was so good - I didn't know if it would be worth the money but it was actually the perfect amount ready for the main which was also delicious. Oooh and the truffle and parmesan fries perfecccttt. The GF options were nicely varied and labeled well, the server even brought the plates out separately so he didn't accidentally contaminate them. The staff were all smiley and lovely and the decor was a really cool little vibe. A really cute little gem. Also everything was nice and clean - I know it sounds weird but if even the toilets are really up to date with cleanliness you can rely on the rest being well looked after to right?

Went here with other and asked for their thoughts on food as well. When we got to the restaurant there is a sign asking you to wait to be seated. We waited in clear sight of the bar and no one came for a number of minutes. When someone did come they made no attempt to engage with us or even so hello. Had to go to them. The staff at the tables seem to the forget us for the food order. When we we asked to order they did apologies. The restaurant is nicely decorated but the number of empty tables and lack of vibrancy came over strongly. By the time we left at about 9pm there was hardly another sole. Food was fine but nothing special. Had a smash burger. It was fine but not special. With onion rings over £20. I went for the salad with it which was £4.50 separately and about three mouth fulls. None of the people who had chips finished them because the were not good. Another person had sea bass and described it as fine only. Another annoyance of mine is putting a service charge on the bill as standard considering we were a table of only 5. Considering the basic costs were on the higher side for only adequate food it suggests the owners are in it for profit first and quality second.
Richard W — Google review
Vibrant atmosphere with a full menu at moderate price. Close to the central Premier Inn and with a full bar and seating area. Good attention to dietary requirements though there could be more vegan options. The chestnut mushroom main was good though quite a lot of sauce.
Richard A — Google review
Wasn't very cosy as the name might suggest - the design of the place fulfilled the cosy vibes but the fact it was cold didn't. Considering it wasn't very busy I felt the staff where quite slow in taking our orders be it for drinks or food. The food itself was decent but anyone ordering the butchers brunch would be saddened to find out the pork chop was a pork slither 😅. Also a vegetarian in our group ordered the American pancakes without the bacon and said they tasted like bacon as if the chefs had put bacon on the top then realised afterwards it shouldn't have any...

Comptoir Libanais Exeter is a vibrant Lebanese restaurant located in the heart of Exeter, just a short walk from the train station. The restaurant aims to popularize Lebanese cuisine with its bold flavors and warm hospitality. It offers an inclusive menu with plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans. The colorful and lively ambiance adds to the dining experience, making it a perfect spot for lunch. Customers can enjoy boozy lemonades and generous servings of hummus.
The first time we’ve been to Exeter and found this wonderful place. Staff were friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. I recommend the lamb tagine. We also had the salmon dish too. To start we had flat bread with the aubergine dip… delicious and to finish we had the orange panacotta type desert with figs and prune and golden sultana compote. Will come here again.

What an incredible dining experience at Comptoir Libanais Exeter! The food was absolutely delicious, bursting with fresh, vibrant ingredients that made every bite a delight. The service was impressively fast, yet the quality never faltered. We shared a hummus, flat bread, chicken shawarma bowl and lamb kofta grill and it was delicious! Service was excellent, lovely decor and lighting and we had a really lovely meal. Special thanks to Jash who was so helpful and friendly and really made the meal a lovely experience for the two of us. Really recommend!

Nestled in the heart of Exeter, The Ivy Exeter is a chic all-day bistro that perfectly blends sophistication with a relaxed atmosphere. Whether you're indulging in an exquisite afternoon tea or savoring dishes like Lobster Linguine and Plant-based Malaysian Curry, this restaurant caters to every palate. Its stunning interior boasts high ceilings, large windows, and Art Deco touches that create an inviting ambiance for diners.
All staff were fantastic, and our main waiter, Alfie, was full of charm, warmth and professionalism. It all helped my mother feel special during her birthday meal. The food was excellent and what one would expect at the price point. Though it was truly the service that set The Ivy above rival restaurants. A fine dining experience we shan't soon forget! We will be back to be sure.

Had an enjoyable time at the Ivy in Exeter. Overall, the food was delicious. We ordered the steak tartare, Roast Pumpkin and Butternut squash soup, Twice baked cheese soufflé for starters, and traditional fish and chips, the Ivy Steak and chips and Sirloin steak with Truffle and Parmesan Chips. As for dessert, we ordered the sorbet and the Apple tart fine with ice-cream and calvados flambé. The Ivy steak and chips was slightly chewy. The steak tartare and the Apple tartare fine were out of this world. The tartare had all the right ingredients, well seasoned. As to the Apple tartare, it was 'orgasmic'. Very nice experience all together. Staff were very professional. Definitely one for tour bucket list.

We have been before and we really love this building, and the decor and the general ambiance is amazing. We had the set menu which is fairly good value, at least for a place like this. Celebrated a birthday dinner at The Ivy Exeter, and Samuel was the absolute star of the evening who saved the birthday cake and given us a celebratory dessert. Its only 2 stars due to only 2 staff who were great tonight. Big shout out too Leo tonight and Sian but no stars to the management and rest of the team. One manager, brown suit, sat down with an lady in a green dress who looked like an influencer and did nothing, the service was pretty much terrible from when we entered until when Leo served us our desserts and Sian did our bill and took a picture for us at the bar of our group at the end of the night. They had 3-4 waitresses working an area of maybe no more than 20-30 tables and still it took nearly 60 mins for service between courses and we had to ask for drinks almost every time, in fact the only drink that was offered to us was the table water at the start, appalling service to be honest for the cost of dining and the supposed quality of the establishment. I would put this down more than anything to management who were more interested in standing around chatting than actually doing any work. Why don't you allocate each waitress a zone of say 5-10 tables which they then look after and make sure they deliver good food and quality service too instead of us having to flag down someone when they are going to and from the kitchen. The music was also too loud, not background music, so we had to raise our voices to speak to each other and the waitess couldn't hear us when ordering our food and drink although she also wasnt actually that great, a bit abrupt, she stood at one end of the our table of 6 and didnt move closer to each person to take their orders, she didnt read back the order to us to ensure our order was correct so food came out with items missing or incorrect or silly litttle things like one of our party ordering a steak for main and no steak knife given which we had to ask for. No food check was done during our meal, only when collecting plates at the end. The food quality was also really disappointing, presentation was ok but some things seemed odd and out of place. For example the squid came on a napkin scrumpled up in a dessert type bowl, i ordered the steak tartare which was watery like it had been frozen and defrosted, came with burnt toast which smelt burnt aswell and a ton of mustard which was so overpowering you couldn't taste much else. The mozzarella was a real odd consistency like it had been left under a heat lamp on the servery for too long. The wait between courses was about an hour and for the quality of the food that came out maybe that's why the waiting staff didnt come do a food check during out courses as they know how poor it actually is. Steaks came out warm at best and went cold within minutes which a proper steak cooked from fresh wouldn't do. I ordered the burger, the patty was already cold when it arrived at our table, the cheese was like plastic cheese and the bacon was flavourless. Even the chips were stodgy and covered in salt but not proper salt and instead like fine table salt. just no care taken with the food to ensure it came out at its best. Also a quick note that on arrival we asked the lady on the desk at the entrance, with the floral jacket on, not to mention to the rest of the party that we had arrived as it was a suprise for one of the party that we were coming to which she said 'absolutely fine' then when that guest arrived she said to him, 'ah yes that party of 6' so he instantly knew we were there and that ruined the surprise for them. When our desserts arrived carried up from the kitchen by Leo he seemed to to have been given this very odd position where he was told to stand and hover until one of the waiting team were on hand to deliver it to our table like he wasn't qualified enough where infact he was pretty much the most proactive and busy and attentive member on the restaurant floor all evening, no other waiting staff were anywhere to be seen so we welcomed him over to serve our desserts. he did a brilliant job and served my bombe with perfection, his service was excellent. Sian delivered our bill and we had more smiles and interaction from her in 5 mins than rest of the team all evening.

The Old Fire House is a charming rustic pub located in Exeter, known for its dark wood interior and exposed ceiling beams. It's a popular spot among locals and students alike, offering a cozy atmosphere and a leafy courtyard adorned with buntings. The venue hosts live music nights on Fridays and Saturdays, making it an ideal place to unwind with friends over pints of ale or cider.

Pizza is good as always but expensive we came back for the nostalgia but the place is seriously filthy. The baskets looks like they are never cleaned. Table 23 had rotten olives and food bits that smelled absolutely terrible and disgusting, toilets are nasty, chairs are dirty, no ventilation and smells like moist morning breath inside. Looks like they just don't care anymore about the place cause they know people will keep coming back anyways for the memories. Please don't reply to the review and just clean the place

Really disappointed to be writing this. We're working in Devon for the next 6-9 months, so I'd had a look online where was recommended. Here came up as a good option on a Sunday (we'll all be travelling down Sundays and staying for the week, & Sundays are always hard to find somewhere decent). I was on my own this evening, as the first one down here, so thought I'd give it a try. Its always fairly intimidating going into a place on your own, but this looked alright. I ordered a pint (very well kept Estrella) & was enjoying the place. Decor is good, nice atmosphere and decent choice of drinks. A group of staff (some working, others not) were sat at the end of the bar, playing cards and having a laugh... all good to this point. I'd noticed on the food menu (photo attached) that it said live music on Sundays, so when I ordered a second pint I asked the lad behind the bar if they had anything on this evening. He said "not tonight" and I thought that was it. Next thing I know, he goes back to his colleagues at the end of the bar & starts making a joke that I'd asked about the music. "live music tonight. is he joking?" ... "live music?" followed by sniggers and people having a laugh at my expense. It only stopped when somebody said "did you want to say that any louder?" when I expect they realised I was in earshot. It made me feel really uncomfortable, unwelcome and just went against the whole vibe of the place and the reviews I had read. I quickly finished my drink and left, I'm sure if you're a big group, or a regular, this would be an alright place, but as a person on your own I would absolutely give it a swerve... unless you want to be mocked by staff and openly talked about behind your back. We'll find somewhere else to eat / drink the next few months.

I’ve been coming to this pub for the last eight years, ever since I moved to Exeter, and it honestly feels like the end of an era. When it changed from private ownership to being part of a chain, there were already big differences, no more jugs of cider with syrup, a much smaller selection of local ales, but I still kept coming back because the atmosphere was so special. After the most recent refurbishment, though, the pub has been completely stripped of its personality. I understand that new electrics or bar improvements may have been necessary, but what made this place unique and cozy is simply gone. The warm, rustic feel has been replaced with something cold and clinical. Outside, the long benches and the iconic candles in the wine bottles are gone. Instead of soft yellow fairy lights, there’s now bright white glare that feels more like a waiting room than a pub garden. Inside, the rich red walls have been painted plain white, and all the quirky old furniture has been replaced with generic pieces you could find in any chain pub. It used to feel welcoming, cozy, and full of character, you could believe the stories that JK Rowling was inspired by the Old Firehouse when imagining The Leaky Cauldron for Harry Potter series. Sadly, no one would believe it now. Now it looks and feels like every other chain pub geared toward late-night student crowds. The magic, warmth, and individuality are gone. All that’s left is a generic shell. Unless they hang some TVs and turn it into a sports bar, it’s hard to imagine how it could lose any more of its former charm. I never thought I’d say this, but after so many years, I don’t see myself coming back. It’s just too sad to see what it’s become.

This place is brilliant. I don't know where you will find a better pizza, a better value pizza, a tastier pizza. The pizzas are 14" square, more than enough for 2 people. Decent price at around £20 and loaded with toppings. We shared a Cajun Chicken Pizza which was so tasty and stacked with Cajun Chicken, Pepperoni, ham and cheese. Absolute first class, with lovely staff and great service. Can't fault them.

Went there Sunday lunchtime and was pleasantly surprised by the new changes. They have kept the character and charm of the pub whilst adding some modern touches. The drunk chicken pizza was really nice and the selection of gins and beers on tap was great to see. I’m not in town very often but when I am, this will be my place to go for lunch. Isobel and Donna were very welcoming when we arrived

We started with the truffle and sesame roasted cauliflower and Muhammad’s crispy potatoes—both dishes were incredibly well thought out, beautifully presented, and packed with flavour. For the main event, the roast featured a mushroom Wellington, which was perfectly proportioned—just the right amount of pastry and a generous, flavourful filling. Everything that came with it complemented the dish perfectly. The portions were massive, and by the end, we were completely stuffed! Beyond the food, the service was friendly and professional, and the ambience was cosy and inviting. The best part? They’re pet-friendly, which makes the whole experience even better. We’ll definitely be back!

The food is quite good with generous portions and an interesting variety of choices, including specials. The service is provided by one person who handled all the serving and clearing, and I can’t fault her - she is lovely, but given her load, it was a bit slow. My spouse ate the soup of the day (potato leek) with garlic bread and then had the Buddha bowl leaving no room for dessert, so the next time we come, he said he’s skip the starter. I had the roasted cauliflower starter, which was quite tasty, the spanakopita (could have been hotter, IMHO) that came with Greek salad. I decided to take some of the main course home for tomorrow (thinking we’d share a dessert ☺️). The atmosphere is OK, though a bit noisy, though I’m glad to see it so popular, and too warm. There was no ventilation, so that even though the outside air was very comfortable, inside was stuffy. But overall we enjoyed and will definitely be back during our stay here in Exeter. I forgot to take photos of the main courses. Update: we visited a second time and this time I remembered to take photos of my spouse’s main course (a beet-bean burger). I didn’t have one - just the same cauliflower as the first time, and then something not on the regular menu, but one of the specials: asparagus with a cauliflower coconut mash. It was good. But we did not come a third time before leaving Exeter, feeling we kind of exhausted the options of what we’d like.

Exceptional food. Just love the whole vibe of the place, and the food here is delicious. You wouldn't regret it. One of my favourite places in Exeter.

Absolutely loved it here and hope to return! The food was amazing and I'm usually quite a picky eater. We tried the Tempura broccoli, the muhammara crispy potatoes and bread dipping board. Everything we had was delicious. The server was really welcoming and polite and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. I honestly wouldn't change a thing about the experience.

I am in love, they serve an amazing shot of hell's stone and for a price nobody could imagine. Amazing people to help us out with the food, and a special cheesecake to celebrate my friend's birthday 🎂🎉 The food is top notch and the service is very welcoming. The people who run it, absolute ⭐. No, I wasn't paid for this review, yes I enjoyed the whiskey a little too much.🤗🤗

What a lovely experience! Wherever I go I always look for a vegan/veggie restaurant and Herbies did not disappoint. With an expansive menu with so many vegan options I was surprised to see an extended specials board too! The server was super attentive for myself and all tables. Where I sat I could see through to the kitchen which was incredibly clean and organised. The chef was super happy to accommodate changes to my meal too! My food was absolutely delicious and I can not recommend the chocolate & biscoff torte enough it was gorgeous. Thankyou so much ✨

Great vege food, delicious flavours and variety. We enjoyed a few small plates and one nachos. Was super busy so definitely need to book. I only dropped one star on service as it was a little slow initially, seemed they might benefit from one more staff member. However the staff were very lovely when they were at our table.

Mediterranean restaurant
Dinosaur Cafe, a hidden gem in Exeter, has been serving up delectable Turkish and Mediterranean cuisine for over 20 years. The unassuming exterior gives way to a warm and friendly atmosphere inside. Their menu features an array of options including falafels, veggie burgers, lamb-stuffed aubergine, kebabs, hummus and pitta. Whether you're a meat-eater or vegetarian, there's something for everyone.
An absolutely amazing find in Exeter. It gets really busy and you’ll know why when you rate the food. They managed to squeeze us in and the food was delicious! The vibe wrapped rice starter and soup were amazing! It’s really cosy in there and they have loads of vegan and veggie options too. You won’t be disappointed if you’re a vegan 🙌🏻 Staff were super friendly and sweet too. Thanks for a great experience guys. We’ll be back.

Nice little restaurant with friendly service and good food. The place is cute inside with a good vibe. Menu is small but decent and price is okay but not the best value for money for what the food is. My stew was a little salty and could have come with all the salad rather than just the tomato. The food is quite simple but decent

The food was so delicious and was served incredibly quickly. The takeaway offer was cost effective but still had good taste. Strongly recommend it if you would like to try something between your trains.

A solid walk in Buffet with a vegetarian menu. It is not sophisticated but good value for money. The service is efficient and reliable. The design is puritan.

A fab find for anyone who loves Turkish food. Visited today as a family of four. Really tasty food and great service. We actually had a taste card discount to use, but it felt wrong to use it in this small independent business, and the food was great value anyway!

Delicious small menu with variety suited us all including a gluten free diner also excellent espresso coffee. Worth walking up hill from station. Charming staff friendly, and reasonable prices. One star removed as toilet facilities tired and need freshening up.

Had the loveliest meal at the Dinosaur Cafe - my sister recommended the place as she knows I love Mediterranean food. The Hummus was tasty and the pita was warm! The Mixed Salad really made me very happy - it was an amazing spread of flavours on a plate. And the Turkish tea was a great way to end off the meal. Glad I got to have dinner there as they seemed to have many reservations but I hadn’t made one, and it’s a Saturday night. Definitely recommend paying them a visit!

Food here is ok. Kind of what you’d get in a basic restarant in Turkey. Nothing special, prices seem very high for what they offer. Owner generally seems harassed and was umecessarily rude to our group. Everyone has an off day but the combination of okay food and rude service means we sadly won’t be returning.

YO! Exeter is a vibrant chain eatery that offers a diverse range of Japanese dishes. Customers can enjoy their meal by either selecting items from the conveyer belt or ordering directly from the open kitchen. The restaurant's interior is elegantly decorated, providing a comfortable dining experience with booth seats and stools arranged around the kaiten conveyor belt. Expertly trained staff showcase their culinary skills as they prepare and present fresh ingredients before customers' eyes. YO!
Great experience very friendly staff. I think a new team have recently taken over and are doing a fantastic job. Helped us through the menu as it was our first time at Yo. Will definitely be back. Many thanks to all.

Popped in here for a late lunch and to sate a craving for sushi. While we weren't disappointed as such, we also weren't really impressed and the experience wasn't one of note truly. The location was clean and had some small artsy modern touches, The staff were friendly and helpful but kinda sporadic in check ins and unstructured in who returned to the table to check on us. We kinda joked we were sure who officially was our 'waiter' as kind as they all were haha The sushi was good, but not so good to make the price feel worth it. Secondly the rotation of the belt options seemed static. We felt we kept seeing the same 4 options over and over. The couple of things we actually ordered were good and didn't take too long to arrive. Again while we didn't dislike the spot or have a horrible experience persay, the experience was lackluster and tbh when in the area again we would opt for a competitor because of such.

My husband and I went to Yo! for dinner. Staff were really friendly and described the ordering process. The food was fine but definitely not the best sushi I’ve had. It was fun choosing from the conveyor belt.

I’m not usually a big fan of Asian cuisine, but the food here exceeded my expectations. The vegetables and fruits were exceptionally fresh, and the taste was far better than I anticipated. The staff were very friendly and attentive, checking in on me regularly to ensure I had everything I needed. Overall, it was a great experience highly recommended!

Me, my wife and my 3 month old son visited Yo! Exeter today. We have visited many times in the past, and this visit was definitely the most noteworthy. Not only was our table available early before our booking, but the restaurant was clean and obviously well looked after. We were tended to by Meg on this occasion. Her energy and enthusiasm for her work was infectious, and she made good small talk while providing extremely useful recommendations according to our preferences. Each recommendation she made was on point and was well tailored to what we were looking for - it is evident she knew the menu well! Meg ensured that we were well looked after for the entirety of our meal, never overstepping boundaries but remaining polite, courteous and attentive, especially when one of the menu items was temporarily unavailable. We could not have asked for a better table experience! Other staff members seemed equally as positive and helpful, and the banter and atmosphere in the restaurant were lovely as always. The changing facilities for our baby were clean and accessible, which is just another plus. All in all, one of the best Yo! visits you might have!

Food wonderful, service even better! Me and my boyfriend have come here 3 days in a row because of how lovely and accommodating Mia has been. She has given us wonderful and timely service and made our visit really nice. The food was excellent, and I would recommend Sushi for two and the strawberry little moons. Abby and Liv were also very sweet. 5/5!

We had a really nice time at YO! Exeter. We've been many a time before but never with our 1 year old and they were so accommodating, our server, Mia, was absolutely fantastic, friendly and helpful. As a parent to a young toddler it is the small things, like offering to store our buggy and making sure their food is served asap, that makes it a memorable and enjoyable visit.

Meg and Tilda were very attentive and friendly servers. We were greeted immediately and had the service well explained to us after seating. They were both timely in checking in with us throughout our stay, serving and later with payment. It was a welcome experience after a difficult day. The food was excellently presented, the flavours were well balanced, and textures pleasant and as expected for each dish.

This a review for the restaurant only, I didn’t stay here, so no clue about the rooms, but the food at dinner was superb! We had all entrees and for my taste, the duck was superb but my brother liked the scallops more. The sauces on the scallops were so good, we licked em clean off the plate. The ceviche was decent too but the other two entrees were just really more to our tastes. For mains, mum & I split the hot seafood platter and my brother got the sea bass. Every bite was delicious! The seafood taste really shown through and just perfectly cooked! At end, got a lovely surprise fudge to celebrate my birthday

I really love this hotel! This was my second time here and equally as good as the first. The room was huge, they allowed me to change from double occupancy to single occupancy with no issues when plans changed fairly last minute, and everyone who works there is extremely friendly. Shout out to the lovely bartender/waiter on Saturday night (and Sunday morning) who was very accommodating even though service was on the verge of ending for the night when I asked for something. The galley kitchen for guests is also a really great touch. Will definitely stay here again.

Invited to dinner by friends on Wednesday 26 March. We each had different courses and each dish was exquisite. We much prefer a smaller menu with attention to each dish carefully prepared than an huge menu with interchangeable food cooked with less care so this was perfect for us. Hugely talented and innovative chef. Very good wine by the glass. Lovely atmosphere and impeccable service by Jack we think his name is ? We will definitely eat here again and again.

With over twenty years of experience, the independent family-run restaurant provides delicious, fast, and hot dishes with options including vegan and gluten-free choices. We have already been a couple of times to this restaurant and both have been great experiences. The food is very tasty and the portions are generous. We quite enjoyed the beef fried noodle for two. and soup noodle. All the meats were perfectly cooked and tender, as well as flavourful. The waiters are very attentive and they had a very nice. The price is more than reasonable for the quality of the food and the portions. One of our favourite restaurants in Exeter and we can’t wait to come back.

I was really looking forward to trying this place, but unfortunately, it didn’t meet my expectations. The tempura was served with sweet and sour sauce, which was quite unusual and didn’t pair well at all. The coat is traditional British fish and chips coat rather than real tempura. The stir-fried noodles were also disappointing - mostly filled with cheap ingredients and lacked authentic flavour (too salty). Overall, I felt the food quality didn’t match the price. Quite a letdown, especially for someone familiar with authentic Asian cuisine.

Have walked many times past here - always busy. Finally had the opportunity to eat here, and so glad we did Friendly service with a smile, and great quality food to boot. Wonderful experience at Denley's Essence of India. The quality of food is excellent in taste and beautifully presented and there's a wide variety of options on the menu. Booking in advance is recommended but we have occasionally been able to eat without booking in the midweek. The staff are very friendly and polite and attentive. It's not the cheapest curry available but it's by far one of the best experiences in the local area and is therefore excellent value for money.

Fantastic punchy flavours, tap Cobra cold and fresh. We enjoyed all the dishes. Portion sizes were also spot on. Perhaps no need for same salad garnish on the appetizers but we ate them all anyway. Service team were friendly and fast but several occasions we did have to request for simple things like empty plates for sharing and desert menu which should have been taken care of without request. Starters took a while to arrive but was a busy night and luckily we had poppadums and dips to keep us going during the wait. Pilau rice bowls were all charged extras on the Specials menu which wasn't clear as on opposite page curries all came with rice included. Misleading so be sure to clarify! Overall worth the little trip and the money for the whole experience!

We’ve been to Denley's multiple times before and have also enjoyed a few takeaways over the years—it's consistently been a favourite for its brilliant staff and high-quality food. On this most recent visit, the food once again lived up to expectations—flavourful, well-presented, and clearly made with care. The team at Denley's are always friendly and attentive, checking in to make sure everything is to your satisfaction. That said, this visit wasn’t without its hiccups. We were seated near the kitchen door, which comes with a lot of foot traffic and made the experience a bit hectic. We also found a hair in the mint sauce with our starter—but to their credit, the staff were quick to apologise and replaced it promptly without fuss. While the atmosphere was lively, it was also quite loud and busy, which makes it less suited to a quiet or romantic evening out. Next time, we’ll probably opt for a takeaway, where we can still enjoy their excellent food from the comfort of home. All in all, great service and food, just a little too bustling for a relaxed dine-in experience on this occasion.

Recently revitalized by Exeter Brewery and led by head chef David Knapman—who brings impressive culinary credentials from renowned establishments—the menu showcases seasonal dishes crafted with care.
Stunning. One of the tastiest roasts I've had. The Yorkshire pudding in particular was insane. There was a slight mix up with our order (forgotten starter), but the staff were so apologetic, even offering a round of drinks to make up for it. It is the quirkiest old traditional pub with a lovely cosy vibe. Highly recommend.

A disappointment. We were made to feel like we had to rush through our meal. 2 of us got there 15 minutes early and sat down. Twice we were asked if our friend was running late or if she was arriving at all. She turned up at the exact time the table was booked for. We were rushed to make our order. Food came out, it was fine, a bit soggy as if it had been sat out for a while, but it was fine. Then we were pressed to pay and leave. We were only there for 30 minutes and throughout our time there we were made to feel like we had to get through the meal as quickly as possible. Twice we were told by staff that they were expecting a rush of customers in the next 30 minutes and needed the table. The room was empty, no rush of customers. Still felt like we had to finish up quick, pay and leave. Will not be coming back.

Quite bizarre !! We have been searching Exeter for iconic unusual pubs with character and something different. This really cute little pub fits all the criteria. It is so hidden away in a back street above the river Exe and in all our years of strolling around Exeter we didn't know it existed. So quaint, steeped in history and it has a real fire. Nice real ales and friendly bar staff and......although we haven't tried it.....there is a restaurant too . But we will be back to sample the menu which looks absolutely scrumptious....and in a good way.....different and varied....

Nestled in the vibrant food scene of Exeter, Red Panda is a delightful Vietnamese takeaway that has quickly become a go-to spot for those seeking a flavorful and healthy lunch. This compact eatery specializes in an array of delicious banh mi sandwiches, bao buns, and fresh salad bowls. The soft bao buns are particularly noteworthy, featuring mouthwatering fillings like pulled pork, chicken, or spicy tofu—perfect for satisfying your midday cravings without straining your wallet.
If you're in Exeter you MUST go to Red Panda!! The food tasted incredible! So so good. (Seriously tempted to travel back just for another bao bun). I had the teriyaki tofu bau and 3 salad, it was delicious and super filling! I loved that chilli, peanuts and coriander were all optional, which meant everyone in our group was happy, even the little one! We grabbed ours as takeaway as there isn't much seating and sat on the green outside the cathedral, a great day! Would highly recommend to all!

Worth the hype! I had heard good things about this place but today I can say they are true. We got a bao bun with teriyaki tofu and the salad trio for take away. The bao was soft and full of flavour. The salad were very fresh and tasty. It was an excellent lunch. The staff was also very kind and welcoming. The price is okay. They don’t have much space inside, so it might be best to get it for take away. Defintely a good lunch option if you are in town.

Absolutely love this place. It's tiny, only does basically one thing, but does it *extremely* well. Their bao buns + salad are to die for. The marinated tofu is superb, the bao buns are light and fluffy, and the salad is substantial and very tasty. There's rice too if you don't fancy bao buns, or pork if you want animal flesh. Highly recommended.

First time in Exeter so I found this place on google maps and saw that it had generally positive reviews. I got rice box with 3 salads with belly pork. The pork was delicious. There was a bit of a queue and the place itself is quite small. I ate inside. I’d suggest maybe adding some pictures or posters to the wall above the stools/tables.

I visited this place on my birthday and must say that the food lived up to its reputation. I tried chicken bao bun and rice bowl. The bao was freshly cooked and the chicken was very tender. Even the rice had a good portion of vegetables with meat. It looked extremely hygienic and well cooked. The quantity was also quite good. The best part was their crunchy chilli oil, which enhances all flavours. You can actually even buy their chilli oil. I’m definitely going back there t more. Highly recommend.

Went to Red Panda on Saturday 25th of June with a group of friends. We have all been to red panda many many times as we used to live in Exeter but haven’t returned in a couple years as we moved away. We were so excited to come back and the food was still absolutely amazing. We used to come often and were often served by the lovely owner and some lovely ladies. However the reason I give it 4 stars this time is because of the attitude of one of the ladies this weekend. The younger girl taking orders was so sweet but the woman making the buns and salads was really quite rude. She was perhaps having a bad day but she quite literally slammed a customers buns down on the counter and rolled her eyes because they didn’t come in quick enough when their buzzer went off and the proceeded to snap at the girl taking the orders. It was really a quite uncomfortable atmosphere and myself and my friends were really glad to go outside to wait. That being said as I mentioned earlier the food is still incredible and I would absolutely recommend still! It was just not what we were used to having been many times before. We’ll be back next time we’re in town I’m sure ! :)

The restaurant offers great deals, making it perfect for students or anyone seeking an affordable dining experience. With friendly and welcoming staff, it's also suitable for family lunches or even a budget-friendly date night. Customers have praised the diverse pizza options and the accommodating service, making it an ideal spot to enjoy quality food in a warm atmosphere.
This is a great place to enjoy Italian food. My Italian friends consider the food prepared here closest to home. The pizza is oven baked in a traditional way. The food was delicious, service was good and the atmosphere was fine but a bit noisy.

A group of friends and I visited this restaurant a few weeks ago to use the pizza for £5 deal. We ordered our pizzas, I ordered a gluten free margherita, the food came quickly and was hot. My pizza was very nice, although the sauce became quite watery especially in the centre, which was only an issue with the gluten free pizza. The all the food tasted lovely. We had a slight issue with getting the £5 deal to work, which was quite a hassle in the end. Nevertheless, we were able to make it work, although the gluten free pizza was a few pounds more (when they mean every pizza £5, they don’t mean the gluten free ones, you still have to pay an extra charge for gluten free!). It was still a nice meal with good food, and I would come back.

So we arrived, was sat down and everything seemed OK at first. Ordered three pizzas. They tasted incredibly bitter - the dough was burnt, the base was tough, and there must have been a basil shortage because each pizza had only one or two small pieces on it (to be fair they did bring some fresh over for us). Eventually we had to leave the food as it was inedible. Took 10 mins to flag a staff member down as they were busy in other parts of the restaurant. They did have the decency to wipe the entire bill which was nice of them, however I think we will stick to the Plymouth one in future. This one was pretty poor.

We came here for Friday dinner. The pizzas were overall okay, although they seemed a bit messy, as all ingredients had been added randomly and some parts of the pizza had more toppings than others. We had to wait nearly 40min for our pizzas although there was only one more table. Another thing we did not like was that they started cleaning up the restaurant before we had finished our dinner, and it was not passed the closing hour, as when we were leaving, other people came in to eat. Overall the pizzas were fine, but the overall experience was average.

I went there with my husband and we had the number 2 and number 10. We really liked the number 10. The floor was pretty busy yet a very warm service. Highly recommended.

We visited Franco Manca in Exeter in the late afternoon when the restaurant was nearly empty. The overall vibe was relaxed, with a clean, modern feel. However, the large LGBTQ flag felt a bit too in your face for a dining environment – personal preference, but it slightly detracted from the otherwise decent atmosphere. Franco Manca markets itself as a Neapolitan-style pizzeria, and their website showcases some great visuals of their pizza with bubbly crusts, vibrant toppings, and a traditional look. While our experience aligned somewhat with that vision, it didn’t fully deliver. We ordered a classic Margherita and one with buffalo mozzarella. The dough was a strong point: it had a good flavor and a pleasant sourdough chew, with a nice char underneath. However, the crust fell short over-browned and lacking the signature leopard spotting you’d expect from true Neapolitan pizza. The tomato sauce tasted fresh and clean, made with quality, organic ingredients – something I appreciated. That said, both pizzas were underwhelming in terms of toppings. The cheese on the buffalo version felt sparse, and while both pizzas had some basil, it was barely enough to notice in terms of flavor or appearance. Overall, Franco Manca Exeter shows promise, especially in its dough and concept, but the execution on our visit didn’t quite match the image they project. With a bit more care and improved baking technique, the pizzas could be much more.

You can't get more authentic than this. The Chefs food is really really good. He was Mexican that is a bonus. got 3 Tacos for £10.

Just got two vegan burgers from here… insane so good!!! Top marks. Perfect stop off on our way to Newquay. Bampflyde car park right behind, walk through the alley way to Vegan Chicken Burger Heaven

Service and atmosphere was great! Very good and attentive staff. However, food was mid for us. Everything was very salty but this may be me and my partner's taste as we do find things salty in general. May pop back and try something different from the menu next time we visit!

I've been eating here regularly. It used to be amazing but not so great anymore. The portions are considerably smaller now, and they increased the prices again as well. For example, the 'special' fries are now half the portion compared to last year for a similar price.

Amazing food, 100% recommend Eat the bird. Burgers were very tasty and the chips were awesome too. Reason for a 4 star review was our waiter wasn't the most helpful, didn't seem like he wanted to be there or particularly help us. Hopefully just a bad day so don't let this put you off, the food was brilliant!
Martyn S — Google review
Eat The Bird in Exeter is like that off‑beat friend who knows how to party, effortless charm, bold flavours and zero pretense. Set in a stripped‑back space with concrete floors and a crisp brick wall, the shipping‑container kitchen provides that edgy street‑food vibe without any of the outdoor mess or queuing chaos. What really caught my attention was their war‑cry of awards. They didn’t win Best Chicken Wing at Wing Fest just for show, they nabbed Street Food Dish of the Year in the 2023 Street Food Championships with their Korean‑inspired “Chicktator”, and their Exeter outpost wears that acclaim proudly . On top of that, they’re Blue Ribbon winners in the 2024/25 Good Food Awards. No easy feat. It’d be easy to assume that with all the accolades comes swagger and slapdash, but the reality is more grounded. The wings, tenders and loaded fries are executed precisely. The chicken coatings are crunchy with substance—not the empty crisp of big‑chain fast food, but proper, hearty texture. The fries, dusted with Parmesan and garlic mayo, hold their own even when the toppings disappear—testament to good technique. Drinks? Their house IPA (Wing Fingers) is no afterthought. It’s a full‑blooded, sessionable pint, the kind you actually want to drink alongside your food. This isn’t fine dining—and you wouldn’t want it to be—but it is great cooking. It’s fun, unfiltered and unmistakably good at what it does. Better still, there’s none of the usual street‑food posturing. It just delivers: no filler, all killer. Rating: 4/5. Worth booking a table, though don’t expect velvet napkins. Instead, expect proper chicken that earns every accolade.

Good. HEAVENS. We had made a trip up from Plymouth and now I'm irritated that it's gonna have to be a bi-monthly trip just for this place. We arrived on a quiet and quaint Monday afternoon. Seated quickly and the hostess absolutely knew her stuff in terms of cocktails. Took into account my tastes and matched it to the ideal cocktail like a cocktail cupid. Every cocktail packed a proper punch, but it was still delicious and the flavours weren't overpowered by the alcohol. Anyway, partner ordered three small plates. WHICH WEREN'T SMALL AT ALL. Good lord, they were generous servings at worst. I stole a piece of her Korean chicken and there was that much I don't think she even noticed. I ordered the pork belly kebab and it's presentation was matched with its taste in terms of quality. How pork can be melt in your mouth is beyond my culinary understanding but their chefs absolutely mastered it. Again, pleasing aesthetically and to the pallet. I will absolutely go again, heck I already want to go again as their dessert menu was STACKED. Alas, I was too full, so I'm already planning on what to have next time.

We recently celebrated our wedding anniversary at The Botanist Exeter, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was beautiful, the food was delicious, and the service truly made the evening feel extra special. A huge thank you to Eloise, who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and celebrated. Her warm hospitality, attention to detail, and genuine kindness were exceptional. She had a natural way of making us feel valued without being overbearing—just perfect. It was clear she loves what she does, and it absolutely showed in the way she looked after us. Eloise truly made our evening, and she absolutely deserves her tip—make sure it gets to her! We’ve discovered there is another Botanist restaurant in our local area, which we will definitely be visiting. We highly recommend The Botanist Exeter for any special occasion—or simply a wonderful night out.

It was dinner for my friend's birthday here, and the Botanist was a really good place to have it. Everyone there was warm and kind. I brought a cake, and they put it on a nice platter when it was time for it. The food was tasty, and the portions were generous. It was also pleasing aesthetically when it was served, and the ambience was great. The manager on the day we went allowed the celebrant to have a free dessert. We found that very kind and thoughtful. One of the ladies on the team also helped us take pictures. We felt very welcome at the place.

My wife and I visited The Botanist on a Wednesday evening. Our decision was made as we had our 2 small dogs with us and they're a dog friendly restaurant. We were greeted at the door by cheerful, personable Jodi who allowed us to choose our table. Once seated Jodi engaged us in interesting/interested chat, way above the usual run-of-the-mill stuff. She talked us through the menu and gave welcome recommendations. Jodi was attentive and cheerful throughout our visit, she's a real asset to the establishment. We also met Michela who was also friendly, interesting and helped make us feel relaxed and at home. The food was tremendous, very hearty portions so thank goodness we had the dogs to help us out. We were both too stuffed for dessert. The restaurant itself has a very comfortable feel, interestingly decorated and had both diners seated and others just enjoying drinks in the bar area. Something for everyone. The kitchen has a large service opening so you can see food being prepared, nothing hidden. All in all it was a great dining experience and we'd happily visit again when we're next in Exeter.

Came here with my partner for her birthday evening meal and the service was light and friendly. We had a sharing platter and some halloumi fries for starters which was cooked well and plentiful. We then had a chicken burger and vegetarian burger for our main which was huge and delicious. Also reasonable priced for the location, atmosphere, service and food. All round lovely and will definitely return.

Delicious food and cocktails. Great service from friendly staff. It was very busy, but we didn't have to wait long for our food, which was piping hot and very tasty. Really well presented 21/05/25 A perfect place for lunch and cocktails with friends, followed by a short trek upstairs for happy hour cocktails on the roof terrace. We were given free popcorn when we got there to snack on whilst we deliberated over the menu. I recommend the chicken schnitzel, which came with seasoned fries, coleslaw and a delicious garlic oil for dipping. The cocktails were delicious too. Mojito was my favourite, it was made properly

We are so glad we picked Steaks N Sushi to celebrate our 5 year anniversary! The atmosphere was just right and the service was lovely but the food really is the star. My husband had the sizzling filet steak with the house sauce, wow so yummy! I went for the four course meal with the sushi platter main and each course was better than the last. We had the best experience and this has fast become our go to anniversary spot from now on. I may even request it again on my birthday. This is the perfect spot for celebrating if you love quality food!

Had lunch here for my daughter's birthday and it was absolutely lovely. The food was delicious (sushi platter was great, and the agedashi tofu was fantastic) and a really lovely atmosphere. Service was top notch as well - my daughter was particularly happy with the impromptu happy birthday singing! A really wonderful experience - we'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. Particularly good place to celebrate a special occasion. Thanks for making it such a happy occasion!

Had a very delicious meal here and very reasonably priced for the quality. I chose a set meal and enjoyed ramen noodles in vegetable broth - Tonkotsu I think - tempura prawns and California rolls. I also tried some deep fried tuna - wow - and my husband enjoyed some pork katsu. Ordering, for me, was a little tricky so I handed it over to my husband who knows his Japanese food by name 😅 You'll be fine if you have a smart phone as you can look up what things are but the staff are really helpful and friendly, they'll get you sorted. All in all a lovely meal, we'll be back!

An absolute gem for really authentic, fresh, delicious sushi and we’re so glad we found this place on Google! The food quality here is up there with fancy sushi restaurants we’ve been to in London, so it’s an absolute treat to find somewhere serving excellent sushi in the South West. The staff were all very polite, really friendly, attentive and we had a great experience. The toilet interiors could do with a little refresh and modernising, but this really is a minor observation as you come here for the food & service! We will absolutely be back. Tang Shian, a Chinese restaurant in Shanghai, offers authentic and delicious cuisine that impresses both locals and expats alike. Known for their exceptional dishes like the twice cooked pork, this establishment caters to those seeking genuine Chinese flavors rather than the usual British-style takeaway food. With generous portion sizes and friendly staff, Tang Shian earns high praise as a fantastic dining destination.
Absolutely amazing, incredibly fresh food and so tasty. The service was a bit slow but I'm sure it's because the food was prepared from scratch, as you could really taste is super fresh. I'll come back soon.

They use fake photos online to advertise for takeaway and it looks like the dish should have had multiple different vegetables but end up with cheap leftover potato and carrot strips (I think they’re leftover because of the taste and how soft and soaking it is).

As a Brit who lived in Shanghai for 8 years, I can definitely say you can get some really good authentic Chinese food at Tang Shian. Excellent for those in the know. The twice cooked pork was super. If you're not used to authentic Chinese food and expect the typical UK Chinese takeaway style food, then ask questions about what you want to try. It's worth it.

Been here twice. Always No waiter in dinning area, have to go to the cashier to order and bill. Service was bad, the waiter seems understand nothing what I was saying (both in Chinese and English). Food served extremely slow during night time. Wait an hour for just 3 dishes. Ps. 4 pounds for a WATER BOILED random selected vegis. Do not recommend

Visited for dinner last night. I was the only person in the restaurant so the clues were there! Slow service. I was handed a tablet and told they only had a few things available (Around 15 items). After ordering a sprite which came in a warm can the dinner arrived. Food was acceptable as I was hungry. I had to move my own plate from the starter as the server wasn't going to. This was very expensive, dreadful service and very average food. I should have read previous reviews. I wouldn't visit again however hungry I was.

When out the other night, I noticed the waiter was making drinks and used his hand grab ice cube directly and also tasted by himself!!! (I am really sure that is not made for himself as someone collect it later.) I feel lucky as I was not the guy drink that, but while I'm having mine, that's all I'm thinking about! Was mine also be touched or tasted by the waiter or cook before delivering to me!!! It's disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Calvo Loco is one of those rare, little hidden gem family run businesses that you come across every once in a while. The aesthetic of the place before you even get inside feels like you're abroad with the bright colours and the tables outside shaded by parasols. Once inside it continues with the authentic music, the quirky decor, and the friendly staff that are always smiling and singing and helpful with anything you might need; they even brought out some complimentary churros for my partner's birthday which was a lovely touch. If you're in Exeter this is a must taste...oh and the red wine sangria is unbelievable, along with the lamb skewers. We will be back.

Glad I finally got to try this resturant after always walking past it. We went in at 12 to order for takeout and I recommend calling in advance. The wait was around 30 minutes but we did order a lot. For 6 people it was £70-80 which was reasonable price for large amount. Resturant looks like from the inside and has a good vibe. It’s 20% more than menu price if you eat in and each person has to spend a minimum £10 if you eat in. The duck was excellent and all the dishes were large portion can not recommend more!

The gin was in one glass the ice with another glass, the tonic came to the table with not even a top off of it. , Then our starter came and that was absolutely fine without a problem , then our man came and that came no problem but to be honest with you it was absolute tasteless while we were waiting for our meals. There was delivery and people ordering takeaways and picking them up and they seem to have a preference to be honest with you, I love the place, but I will never ever go back there again. It was totally unstaffed and it was just shocking. I feel sorry for the staff that were working but it’s one of those considerations that the greedy owners are making a lot of profit. I’ve underpaid staff with lack of knowledge

This is a little Dimond hidden near my home, I walked past it for 3 years, and can’t believe I never tried it before. Food is good, the place is quiet and relaxing. Every time I have been there eat in or take away it’s always good.

Fast food restaurant
Southernhay House Restaurant in Exeter is renowned for its elegant decor, intimate atmosphere, and attentive staff. The restaurant offers exquisite dishes made from locally sourced ingredients, making it one of the best dining spots in the area. It also serves as a wedding venue with superb services. While some find the drinks expensive and note limited restroom facilities, many highly recommend this restaurant for its excellent menu options, great atmosphere, and knowledgeable staff.
Used as a wedding venue, superb, but drinks were quite expensive, and only one gents toilet, but recommended.

Went for breakfast as a treat. It was mediocre and overpriced. Toast was cheap bread , coffee was not great, bacon was swimming in oil and not crisp, 2 small sausages of not great quality and slightly overcooked poached egg. I had expected rustic local bacon, sausages and sour dough. What I got was more like premier inn for double the price.

BrewDog Exeter is a straightforward establishment that specializes in the craft beers produced by a Scottish brewery. It stands out among other bars in Exeter due to its extensive selection of 28 high-quality craft beers on tap, including both regular offerings and guest brews. Located in Guildhall Shopping Centre, this bar also offers cocktails for those who prefer something different. In addition to their impressive drink menu, BrewDog serves monster burgers, spicy buffalo wings, and salads for hungry patrons.
Wonderful place to eat in Exeter! The burger was perfectly cooked, the fries were excellent, and the staff is so nice! The price is fair, not inflated as in many places in the city, and the portion is more than satisfying. The music is not loud and the selection is great! 5* all around

Ordered a salad, buffalo wings, chips (fries), and a beer. The buffalo sauce was spot on - perfectly tangy and hot. The blue cheese sauce was unidentifiable as blue cheese - no flavor at all. Just white sauce with the consistency of ketchup. I honestly wouldn't have known what it was if they menu didn't say. The chips were incredibly oily - to the point of translucency. Just entirely soaked in oil. Never thought I'd need to wring out my chips. The salad was inedible - just wilted brown leaves. No edible parts at all. It looked like it'd sat in a fridge for a couple of days, uncovered, before being served. No crisp, only limp. The beer was pretty solid, though. The wings and the beer did a LOT of heavy lifting for this meal. The waitstaff was kind, friendly, and attentive - just stretched thin. She was doing her best with the tools she was given. Never saw her slow down!

Celebrated my birthday at Bulldog with a large group of 16, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The team was brilliant in accommodating us, the atmosphere was wonderful, and the food? Still my absolute favourite! The staff truly went above and beyond to make it a memorable night. 5 stars without hesitation!

Visited BrewDog after a long day of exploring the area. Hot day and while visiting here so don’t wanna miss Brewdog. The atmosphere was electric with welcoming vibes. The staff were friendly and helpful. As always nice selection of drinks from their own brewery and guest beers. Its favourite place for craft beer lovers. Worth a quick stop.

Surprised at how good this was. Group of 4 adults and we popped in for late lunch into the Exeter brewdog and had the £10.95 sub/burger, fries and pint deal. Great value! A good atmosphere, clean and bright, good music. Service was great. Nice and friendly staff.

We came here for lunch yesterday and brewdog has never let us down but this experience was even better because the service was phenomenal. I don’t know the name of the gentleman who served us but he was so helpful and attentive. He took our order at the bar and was extremely knowledgable and polite. He also came over to make sure everything was in order multiple times and was just very friendly and kind. Definitely made the experience memorable. I 100% recommend coming here!

An odd visit last saturday night as a cellar problem meant most draft beers were off. However, one of my favourite Belgian beers Cornet was available. It was so quiet it felt like a Sunday afternoon, rather than Saturday night.
Will M — Google review
Overcooked inedible wings with way too much breading, was fearing for my teeth with every bite. Didn’t even attempt a second order or flavour, had lost all appetite and interest. False advertisement, you can’t order multiple flavours at a time like the instagram promotions show. Also where is the garnish? They just decided not to bother this time I suppose? Before booking yourself look at the photo attached and ask yourself if this quality is worth your £32+ and then go Popeyes afterwards for a better time

Coffee shop
Nestled just outside the city center, EXE Coffee Roasters is a charming cafe and roastery founded by Kim and Steve Pearson in 2012. Originally located on the high street, they later moved to a new spot to focus on roasting more coffee, producing nearly 300 kilos per week. The small but impressive roastery was built by the owner from scrap pieces.
What an absolute gem this place is! It came up on times magazine as one of the top things to do in Exeter. Well they weren't wrong! A very friendly gentleman took our order, We both had probably one of the best tasting coffees ever along with a fresh croissant with ham and cheese. We then had the pleasure of meeting the owner Simon. He was so kind and took us to the basement showing and telling us all about how they make their coffee on site, it was so interesting ! After asking Simon if he did pods for our coffee machine he explained that although he didn’t I could but empty pods and he could grind the beans to the correct size for us. Very reasonably priced. Would highly recommend visiting

This cafe is set on the corner of the bottom end of town, there's a parking lot 2 behind the cafe so plenty of parking (paid). There are a couple of seats outside the cafe and seating inside. There was a downstairs but I don't know if this was toilets or extra seating. The cafe is really cute inside, it's very rustic with a nice atmosphere. The gentleman serving was lovely and really friendly. The coffee was really tasty, there were cakes but I didn't fancy any food so, unfortunately, I didn't sample them. The person I was with did though and said the brownie was delicious. I don't often come down this end of town so it made a nice change but the coffee shop is definitely worth a visit and is reasonably priced too.

What a lovely spot! Great coffee, friendly service and a nice, relaxed environment. They roast some of the nicest coffee available in Devon and also offer to grind it for you when you buy a bag.

Great coffee and brownies! Wonderful atmosphere and friendly staff. All the coffee is freshly roasted on site. Offers both espresso based drinks as well as pour-overs.
Ruairi — Google review
My first visit to a coffee roaster since I started to get into specialty, and it was such a great experience. The service was super friendly, the cappuccino was absolutely delish, and the vibe of the place was just fantastic. Picked up a small bag of their Medium Roasted Brazilian Decaf before leaving, and have absolutely fallen in love with it. I think I'll be making the hour trip to visit every couple of months, because I really haven't had a comparable experience elsewhere! Bonus points that it being a little out of the way meant (at least when I was there) that there wasn't a load of obnoxious teens from the college ruining the cosy environment.

One of my favourite cafes, ever since we moved to Exeter which is about 3 years, it never disappoints. Great customer service I always get looked after as a customer. Amazing coffee and food , especially the pastries. It is a very friendly and relaxing atmosphere. I recommend this cafe to anyone that just wants a coffee.

Probably the best coffee I have tasted, well presented at a good temperature. It would be easy to walk or drive past and not notice this coffee oasis.

Great speciality coffee shop with a full espresso bar and a nice pourover brew bar of v60 and chemex. The baristas are really friendly and approachable and have a brilliant coffee knowledge as well as being very well trained. The space is small and cosy with a great atmosphere, but it does fill up quick. They have a menu full of amazing food, we ordered the cinnamon toast when we went yesterday a long with a couple of v60 pourovers and a flat white. All made excellently and all were delicious. Also has a range of coffee and coffee items for sale.

Quayside - Distillery, Bar & Private Hire Venue is a vibrant destination located on Exeter's historic Quay. The venue boasts a modern distillery that offers tours where visitors can witness the gin-making process and even create their own to take home. Founded by Master Distiller George, the distillery provides an intimate experience with personal demonstrations of gin production.
We had the pleasure of hiring the Quayside Distillery for our wedding reception - George and the team were the absolute best hosts, so welcoming and accommodating to our unique plans. I cannot recommend this place enough - it's beautiful inside, in a scenic location, the staff are brilliant people, the drinks are expertly crafted and I will forever hold this place dear to my heart for what they did to make our wedding day as special as it was. Thank you Quayside Distillery - you are a gem of Exeter!

Fantastic experience at Quayside Distillery last night. The cocktails were creative and delicious. The food was outstanding! Great service and I saw they also have a “lab” where soon you will be able to make your own gin! Perfect date night spot. Will definitely be back

This place was so good I actually bothered to review it. The cocktails were fantastic, the Tapas style food was banging. The Iberico Jamon was just as good as Salamanca. There’s a gin school here too where you can make your own. The staff was great. The owner attentive. The best experience I’ve had in a bar/restaurant in forever. And my lady still can’t stop going on about the cream tea cocktail. She’s obsessed. Definitely worth a trip. Parking is free after 6pm in the quay and cathedral Car park. Go here!!!
Joel G — Google review
Great gin tasting session, with history and a bit of mad science thrown in too - they definitely enjoy experimenting with their flavours! Great fun and the bar isn't too shabby either!
Ross L — Google review
We came across this place on the night of the Jubilee when walking back from the beacon lighting further down the river. It sits on the opposite side of the canal/marina from places like tabac and the outdoor seating has a great view of Piazza Terracina. It's a great little spot for watching the world go by and people spotting. The service was very attentive, and there is a good selection for nibbles and drinks if that's what you're there for. Although people can walk past your table as there is a thoroughfare (I think) in front of the restaurant, given its location set away from the main Quay area, there aren't that many people who might walk past.

Reed Hall is a historical mansion located in beautifully landscaped grounds, serving as both a conference center and wedding venue. Additionally, it offers bed and breakfast accommodations. This magnificent building, dating back to 1867, is considered one of the finest on Exeter University's campus. Surrounded by exquisite Italianate gardens spanning acres, Reed Hall also houses the elegant Woodbridge Restaurant. Many are unaware that this restaurant is open to the public and has its own complimentary parking facility.
Our wedding venue is Reed Hall. As we are both alumni of University of Exeter, this venue is meaningful to us. We are also pleased that Reed Hall is an exclusive use venue. As soon as we expressed our interest in hiring the building, they reserved all the bed and breakfast rooms for our guests. Additionally, we are able to host our ceremony and reception at the same place. This saves us from the trouble of organizing the transportation to our guests, who will be coming from Vietnam, Europe, and the States. Besides huge glass doors, the Woodbridge restaurant at Reed Hall has a hardwood floor, providing us with an amazing opportunity for folk dancing. (For your information, I fell in love with James not at first sight, but at our first folk dance. Our wedding first dance, therefore, has been planned to be our first dance.) Equally importantly, Reed Hall is a perfect choice for us because it’s quiet, peaceful, beautiful, and not close to the city center. We are not a huge fan of the traffic around Christmas. Likewise, there are ample of parking spaces nearby, free of charge. If you live in Exeter, don’t you agree that parking near the city center can be expensive, and sometimes, impossible? The food was tremendously good; all of my guests were so pleased. The staffs were very nice and accommodating. They tried their best to help us. For example, they allowed us to come in advance to decorate the venue. Upon being informed that the wedding color is burgundy, they ordered the flowers in the bar area in this color. Amazing service! We highly recommend.

The house and gardens on this part of the university campus are very pretty, with good views over the city. It’s a great venue for events - popular for student balls and weddings. Nestled on the outskirts of Exeter, the Blue Ball Inn is a charming 17th-century pub that boasts a picturesque thatched roof and cozy fireplaces. This delightful establishment offers not only modern British dining but also comfortable accommodations in recently renovated rooms. Guests can indulge in hearty meals like roast turkey and fish pie while enjoying a drink from the bar, making it an ideal spot for gatherings with friends or family.

Stayed overnight in our campervan. A great pub stop. Big carpark with both hard standing and grass if you prefer. Reasonably flat. Electric charging points. Great food and friendly staff. It’s just off the M5 and so close to Exeter Services but a much nicer place to stop. Either for a break. a meal or overnight / they have rooms too. It is as if it’s in a country lane yet M5 so close. But surprisingly quiet Had a great stay.
Veritee H — Google review
We came here as a treat. Family were down, it was my wife’s birthday, and my father-in-law was kindly taking us out. The menu looked fantastic—so many choices that we were genuinely spoilt for choice. I had the fish stew. The broth was lovely, and the fish was okay, but the shellfish (three mussels and a langoustine) were clearly not fresh and just didn’t taste right. It could have done with a few more crostini, and I had to ask for a spoon, which felt odd given that the broth was easily the best part. My brother-in-law went for the pork. It looked amazing, and the portion size was generous, but it was dry—how does belly of pork end up dry? My wife, the birthday girl, chose the butternut squash ravioli. It looked beautiful and tasted great—except there was no mention on the menu of truffles, which were subtle but definitely there. The only food she really dislikes is truffle. Thankfully, she had garlic bread to fall back on. And my niece? She’s vegetarian, and there were no vegetarian child's mains on the menu. Lots of appealing meat dishes, but nothing suitable for her. In the end, she had plain pasta with cheese, really? In this day and age. Also starting tzatiki was good but only a few pieces of pitta. Normally I’d have said something—and very nearly did—but my elderly father-in-law was treating us, and we didn’t want to spoil the occasion. We had an okay time. The space we were seated in was beautifully decorated, and the staff were pleasant, if a little timid., teh food came fairly quickly. But it was meant to be a special treat—and sadly, it just wasn’t. And it wasn’t cheap either. And, in the end, we decided to skip dessert and beat a retreat To me, it felt like a case of style over substance. Perhaps we were too adventurous in our choices, or maybe the menu itself is too ambitious to be consistently delivered well. What initially excited me when I read the menu ultimately became its downfall. I’d like to think we’d give it another go. In my line of work, I often recommend venues for wakes and family gatherings—but I’m not sure I could trust that it would be “just okay” again. Was this a one-off, or is it a regular occurrence? Feeling sad as I wanted to come back and try some of the other things.

The atmosphere is great — it’s a cool spot with a nice outside area to sit and enjoy a drink. They have a good beer, which I really liked. However, I wasn’t happy with the food I ordered, and I even found a hair on the plate, which was disappointing. I’d recommend it as a place to grab drinks, but not for the food!

Nestled in the charming waterside town of Topsham, the Bridge Inn is a delightful throwback to a bygone era. This 16th-century cob-and-stone establishment has been lovingly maintained by the same family since 1897, creating an atmosphere that feels more like stepping into a museum than just another pub. With its antique decor—think grandfather clocks and vintage memorabilia—the inn invites patrons to savor classic British dishes alongside an impressive selection of regional real ales.
A lovely, historic building, full of character. Excellent choice of ales (and cider). Great pub food and fabulous views. It's becoming one of my favourite pubs in the wider Exeter area, and I live in Exeter!

Great historic pub where nothing has changed over the years. It's like walking back in time. Has so much character. It's not overally big inside but there is seating outside too. Good selection of ales and other drinks, the menu is very simple but the food was tasty. Best toastie I've had in a long time.

This is a real treasure of an English public house. The interior decor has not altered in over a hundred years. The ceiling of the bar is unashamedly stained with wood soot and nicotine stains from days gone by. It is an old and preserved building that speaks to my retirement age soul as a reminder of how real pubs used to be before 'bistro' became our most prevalent oxymoron. The pint I drank was dark and full of flavour and my only regret was we had not arrived in time for many more. The pubs great location outside Topsham on the River Clyst affords the numerous riverside tables a fantastic view of the river and the wildlife. Food here is simple and is not the type that requires cooking. Pubs were once for drinking and a light snack that enabled you to stay a little longer. This is what The Bridge does. Simple snack food. I was lucky enough to see the meeting room at the side of the building that is licensed for weddings and also holds numerous evenings of classical, folk and other music. It's rare these days to plan a journey around a visit to a pub but I can think of few better ways to spend a warm Saturday afternoon than drinking excellent ale in this excellent pub. It's also a few minutes walk from the local train so driving need not be an option.

Lovely quirky proper real ale (and cider) pub with friendly staff and good views up the Clyst. The red arrows even put on a show for us (though they appeared to be operating monochrome only, perhaps a funding cut!). Pitchers of beer are a nice extra. Close to Topsham station and the 57 bus route.

Nestled in the heart of Exeter on Cathedral Yard, The Plant Cafe is a delightful vegetarian haven that also caters to vegan diners. This charming spot prides itself on its zero-waste policy, ensuring that every meal has minimal environmental impact through compostable and biodegradable practices. With an emphasis on homemade dishes crafted from organic and locally sourced ingredients, guests can indulge in fresh salads, delectable cakes, and comforting lunches while enjoying views of the picturesque Cathedral green.
A visit to Exeter doesn't seem complete without a visit to Plant Cafe. We went for cake this time, especially as the vegan cake choices are so good. This time 6 of the 8 cakes/treats were vegan. Any daughter had the beetroot and raspberry cake, delicious, and I had the gluten free peanut butter and chocolate cookie, so peanut buttery. We also think they do the best chai lattes. A nice treat to restore our energy levels for more shopping. If you haven't been, definitely go as their breakfasts, lunches and treats are all amazing.

I just want to admit I'm not a vegan, however I have reduced my consumption of meats and dairy based products. My partner bases her diet on vegan, so on a visit to Exeter she introduced me to The Plant Cafe! We were warmly greeted and found a seat at the window, it was a lovely day so was nice to have lunch with a view of the Cathedral Green. I had a look through the menu and it was filled with some incredible sounding food and drink! I was stumped on what to pick! We quickly decided on a coffee for ourselves. My gosh the coffee was beautiful! Rich in flavour and I was blown away! Better than a good few coffee houses. We finally decided on a Homity pie. The presentation was amazing! I just couldn't wait to dig in! We had a long look around Exeter, so it was nice to finally rest and have some nice food. The pie was nice light, really delicious! You get a lot of beautiful flavour, burst of flavour for your palette. As it was a nice light bite, we decided to get the carrot cake. One of the best decisions! My goodness it is the best carrot cake I have ever tasted! The flavours were perfect, beautifully moist and not too dry as well! You tell a lot of care goes into each dish! All beautifully presented and prepared. I can't recommend this place enough. For everyone, non vegans and vegans will love the food! Incredible and lovely staff that were very helpful and lovely. Gave some amazing recommendations for us, especially being our first visit. We will be coming back some point!

The cafe was relaxed and chilled out with a rustic feel that suited the vegetarian food. My one criticism was good price but believe it's worth it for wholesome food on a day out.

First time in the plant cafe today and had a REALLY lovely, healthy and delicious vegan lunch, including incredible beetroot and raspberry cake! 😮😍 Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming and I was impressed with the service, menu and general experience, especially given that the current owners have only been running plant for the last six weeks. DEFINITELY going back 😁

Coffee shop
Located on Fore Street, The Press House is a unique combination of a coffee shop and a working letterpress firm. This refurbished old letterpress shop now offers carefully crafted original cards and stationery alongside specialty coffee beverages served in handmade ceramics. Just 5 minutes from the bustling shopping area, this cafe also serves delicious pancakes and toast that can be personalized with add-on items. With its simple yet aesthetic interior, The Press House is known for its great atmosphere and service.
Food was great, service was amazing. Tried to go about an hour after opening, but they were full and no seats were available, so decided to come back later. Ended up going back around 15mins before they stopped serving food, which meant they were running out of a lot of things, which is understandable. One of the dishes was sold out(which they notified us before we sat down), by the time we decided what we wanted, one of the dished we picked was also sold out. We didn't have to wait too long for our food, which looked amazing and tasted really good. We asked for a bit more of the pistachio crumb on one of our dishes, unfortunately they had used the last of it, but they were kind enough to refund our drink (tangerine iced tea, which was delicious) because of this and the other dishes being unavailable. We really weren't expecting this, and they really didn't have to since we knew we got there quite late, but it was much appreciated.

Fancied a breakfast out on our day off and my fiancée wanted pancakes. We saw the reviews for this place that we'd not heard of so thought we'd give it a go - great decision! Made the most of the sun and sat outside, i had the avocado toast and she had the bacon with maple syrup (proper stuff made by the owner's friend in Canada) pancakes. Definitely recommend going with someone else so you can swap half their food too, fantastic menu.

I love this place. The food, sweet or savory, is amazing. The coffee & hot drinks are great and the cold drinks are also spot on (especially the peach ice tea 🤤). It has a really great team. It is small and sometimes you have to wait a little for a table but it is rare we can never get one. It is harder for larger groups as there are only a couple of tables big enough. It is always worth the wait. A proper independent place. I recommend it, but not so much I can then never get a spot 😆!

We ordered the squash& pesto and avacado toast for brunch, but it was so plain that it honestly felt like I was just eating bread. If you’re planning to order based on the photos on Google Maps, think twice — portions seem to have shrunk a lot. On top of that, when they asked how the food was and we said we didn’t enjoy it, they didn’t really care. Other than the coffee, which was nice, I wouldn’t recommend this place.
Esra K — Google review
Cute little coffee shop, serves a small menu of food but takes a while to cook due to small kitchen - same with the drinks which took a bit. Drinks were slightly pricey, my white chocolate matcha was the smallest I've had for the highest price which was a bit disappointing. Food is also pricey but better value for money - at least my caramelised banana pancakes were. The chocolate orange pancakes can't be recommended, they're just a bit plain compared to the other options at the same price. Decent amount of seating spread across three areas so is nice and quiet. Good option for a tasty snack on the outskirts of the city centre.

Very mediocre food and definitely not worth the price point. Our 'toast' was bread, my mushrooms were lukewarm, lacked flavour and the portion was tiny for the avocado toast. Would not return to eat. The staff however, were kind and the coffee was good.
Georgia G — Google review
Had an exceptional coffee here, and led me to read their food menu. So pleased I was convinced. Had the butternut squash with cream cheese and homemade pesto, I usually go for a non vegetarian meal but this was amazing. My friend chose the mushrooms and was really impressed too. Friendly staff who made us feel very welcome, with exceptionally quick service. Will definitely visit again, just to try the pancakes that looked equally amazing.

The Cathedral Café is a charming spot to enjoy breakfast or lunch amidst stunning architecture. Located in the courtyard at the back of the cathedral, it offers good quality food and reasonable prices. The café is known for its best coffee in the area and tempting warm brie ciabata. Despite some noise due to the building materials, it's a great value with freshly made food and a quiet setting without intrusive music. The staff are friendly and helpful, making it a highly recommended stop for visitors.
Excellent for coffee lunch and afternoon tea. Lovely setting and professional staff. (Regular visitor).

My friend and I had a lovely hot chocolate. Nice and clean. My only observation is that people visiting the toilet kept leaving the door open, we noticed this as we were sat opposite. Maybe a polite notice to customers to close the door or a self close on the door.

This was the first time I've been to this cafe. It's really nice there and the food is great. It is also possible to seat outside. It is a bit of a small choice when it comes to food. However, in general, I think this is a great place.
Izzy — Google review
A lovely little cafe in the courtyard at the back of the cathedral. Part of the cathedral itself, it is a beautiful place to stop for a lunch or a coffee. Food is good quality and prices are reasonable but a little high on some items.

We love this cafe especially as the setting is so extraordinary. On Saturday the 5th of April I sat outside with a friend eating our lunch in the sunshine and realised too late that my power wheelchair had sunk into the gravel and I was truly stuck. My friend asked the lovely young staff in the cafe if they could help and this gang of cheerful and kindhearted people came out and with the help of some cardboard rescued me. If they see this review I just wanted to say how grateful I am for your kindness. Also a big thank you to the gentleman who gave up his lunch to the seagulls to come and help as well. Some great people out there. Much love!

Arrived 1120 and found a table to sit at after clearing it ourselves. We wanted breakfast which is served until 1130. We were in the queue of just 2 ahead of us. Queued for 7 minutes! Then we were told they weren't serving breakfast -we were too late. We left and went elsewhere.

They didn't bother advertising the new renovated cafe. The phots are from the previous cafe.

Cake or Death, located on Bartholomew West Street, offers a delightful selection of plant-based brownies that are sure to transport you to a chocolatey paradise. Priced at just two pound 50 per slice, these brownies are not only a delicious treat but also support the local business and its friendly bakers. Originally gaining fame in London for their vegan letterbox brownies, Cake or Death's owner Katie Cross has now established a bakery and coffee shop in Exeter.
OMG!! Easily the best damn brownies I’ve ever had!! They have a great selection available, we had the biscoff brownie and the cherry Bakewell brownie. Both were so fudgy and delicious. You must visit because they are amazing!!! It’s 100% plant based too 🙌🏻
The T — Google review
Fantastic, delicious, gooey brownies, loved by omnis and vegans alike. Great for presents or as a treat for yourself and the family. Good that they have a gluten free option too, so no one has to feel left out!
Kirsty B — Google review
Was walking by the shop so decided to go in and have a look. Wow. The smell of freshly cooked brownies as you went in was unbelievable! Lady behind the counter was very helpful and explained what brownies she had. (Vegan options are available too.) They taste great. Would definitely go back if I'm ever in Exeter again.

It’s a really cute store that’s a bit hidden. They are mostly known on their online platform but I would recommend popping in if you are heading in that direction. Just got my bday cake from them!
Tanya V — Google review
Amazingly gooey brownies. So good we have a subscription, and so good that my brother used their brownies instead of a wedding cake. There's no going back once you've tried them.
Sarah G — Google review
Amazing brownies! Not just good but amazing! A slightly longer stroll from the centre then some people might want to make but it is definitely worth it. They have good opening times. Great range of flavours and sometimes they have cookies but for me it is all about those brownies. They have some stools inside and various drinks available so you can sit in should you wish. They are largely online order based and although you might wonder if you really want that many brownies you definitely will.
Felicity P — Google review
Best brownies ever. They’re so chocolatey and gooey and the selection of flavours is great. The packaging is beautiful and it makes a really great present for someone.
E R — Google review
I choose Death over the prices here! If you are in the market for a small piece of brownie for £4 now they are quite nice, but not good value....but can't deny they are very good. Dramatically overpriced at £21 for 6. Guess I will bake some brownies myself instead!
