Barrio de La Villa in Priego de Cordoba is a charming medieval neighborhood with winding streets, tiny squares, and beautifully decorated white-washed walls adorned with pink geraniums, religious figures, and ceramics. The area offers panoramic views from the Castle of Priego de Cordoba and is surrounded by picturesque trails in the Subbetica Natural Park.
A gorgeous rabbit warren of stunning white washed streets adorned with Geraniums on every wall. Great views out over the countryside and a simply wonderful place to wonder through. Take your time to see every crevice! I would suggest doing this after you have visited the churches and castle. Everything closes at 13:30...so leave the fountain and barrio to the end so you can enjoy them after lunch!

One of the most beautiful places of the village. You will want to get lost in that maze of white and tight streets. And after that just enjoy a fresh beer in the terraces near the castle or by the church.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Fuente del Rey is a charming spot in Priego de Cordoba, featuring the 1803-built Kings Fountain with 139 spouts and a statue of King Neptune. The area also includes the 16th-century La Fuente de la Salud. Although some fountains are under restoration, visitors appreciate the original ones where springs bubble up through pebbles. The surrounding area is serene, with a quaint park and an old café bar offering coffee, beers, and tapas.
A magical place with a huge set of fountains that cascade down the hill of the park. It is gorgeous to view both daytime and nighttime. Many places to sit and watch. A very peaceful place, unless the local city employees are using gas leaf-blowers to clean up in the fall, when we were there. Our rental unit was located directly on the park, and the daily noise from the clean-up crew was pretty annoying.

Serene isolated space in a bustling town. Loved the contrast of older and newer fountains.

Topic here is that I visited it on a week day at "siesta" hours so it was empty and everything around closed. Did like the villa, nice building that show how important it was in its glory days.

Monument
Carnicerías Reales, a historic building dating back to the 16th century, served as a slaughterhouse and meat market. The Mannerist facade, designed by Francisco del Castillo el Mozo, encloses an open interior patio with a central water fountain and a porticoed gallery of semicircular arches. A unique feature is the spiral stone staircase without a central pillar that provided access to the slaughterhouse below.
(Translated by Google) This is the former royal butcher shop. We entered and were greeted by a lovely woman. I think the entrance fee is 0.50 cents. She explained a little about the place we were visiting and also gave us some directions to the town. It has a beautiful courtyard with a fountain in the center. There's a lovely spiral staircase that leads to the lower part, where the butchering room used to be. It now houses an olive oil museum.

(Translated by Google) As its name indicates, the old royal slaughterhouse butcher shop. Curious that the current market (supply plaza) is right next door 😉. It is a beautiful patio in the archway on the left as you enter, there are a few remains of the polychrome that adorned the building. There is a spiral staircase that leads to the lower part where the cutting room and the patio where the animals entered were located. You can still see the pulley through which the pieces were hoisted, taking advantage of the stairwell. There are two carved faces in two corners of the patio, I don't know their meaning.

Casa Museo Don Niceto Alcalá-Zamora y Torres is a captivating museum located in a beautiful nineteenth-century manor house, which was the birthplace of the President of the Second Spanish Republic. The museum opened its doors in 1986 and offers an insightful display of original furniture and objects from the President's house. A really pleasant way to spend a couple of hours. The house stands on one of the busier town centre roads. I say busy, Priego is a really nice bustling little town that could never really be called busy. Inside the house is a pleasant court yard with a potted history of the region. Everything labelled in Spanish but interesting artefacts non the less. At the back is a sleek modern exhibition area with some varied and interesting art displays. Upstairs Sidro's own work. Some really interesting work. His studies of people are particularly noteworthy, capturing the real character of his subjects. Worth a short drive and incorporating with visits to the numerous interesting churches and the old market place.

Iglesia de San Francisco de Asís is a beautiful church in Priego de Cordoba, with a rich history dating back to 1510-1512. The construction of this late Gothic or Mudejar style church was completed in 1548, and it was later remodeled in the 18th century in a Baroque style.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful temple, example of the baroque. The images and chapels of the Nazarene and Jesus of the Column stand out. You only have to look at their faces to see that the first is Renaissance, with that serenity in his countenance, while the second is baroque with that expressiveness of pain so evident. The polychromy is centered in the Nazarene Chapel. In each pendentive of the dome there is an element of the Passion. (Original) Precioso templo, ejemplo del barroco. The Museo Histórico Municipal offers more than just a typical municipal museum experience. Visitors can explore historical artifacts in a beautiful courtyard, with contemporary art on display to the right and left. The museum also features Iberian, Roman, and Muslim pieces, as well as the former residence of painter Adolfo Lozano, showcasing his rooms and paintings on the second floor.

Located in the same square as the King's Fountain, the Virgin of the Health Fountain is a 16th-century structure built to channel a natural spring that supplied the population. It features a small temple with an image of the Virgin of the Head at its center. Also known as Fuente de la Salud, it predates the King's Fountain and provides water to it. Although beautiful, visitors have noted that they saw it dry due to drought restrictions during their visit.
Perfect place for visit.

In the center of the frontispiece there is a niche with the Virgin of Health, while the rest of the work is decorated by bas-reliefs that combine a mythological program with a religious one. According to a popular belief, if we throw a coin with our back to the fountain and it falls into the niche, the wish we have made will be fulfilled. The church has a single rectangular nave divided into five half-barrel sections with windows and separated by columns. In some of these columns there are six figures representing Saint Peter, Saint Paul and the four apostles. The interior is baroque in style with the walls painted in white and blue and profusely decorated with plasterwork with vegetal and geometric motifs, as well as a large number of small angels distributed on the walls and ceilings. Inside, it is worth highlighting the baroque main altarpiece covered with gold leaf, with an image of Saint Nicasio located in its upper part. Behind the altarpiece there is a dressing room with a beautiful image of the Virgin of Aurora. The ornamentation of the dressing room is spectacular, adorned with reliefs made in the vault itself with mirrors, niches and pedestals profusely decorated and painted in bright colors and covering the entire dressing room around the image of the Virgin. On the outside, the main doorway in baroque style was built in the second half of the 18th century. It is made with polychrome marbles. On the sides, two Corinthian columns support a shelf on which sits a niche with the image of the Virgin framed by two Solomonic columns. At the top a large cross. On the side is the bell tower. The entrance to the church is located on the side through a small door. Admission costs 1.50 euros/pax and can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday mornings. Since the 17th century, the Brotherhood of Aurora leaves this church every Saturday at midnight, walking through the main streets of Priego, praying the rosary and singing to the Virgin. There is a famous saying that says "end like the rosary of dawn." It refers to an incident that occurred in the year 1780 between the Brotherhoods of Aurora and Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes, who met at a crossroads in the streets of Priego, causing a great argument between them. In Priego de Córdoba there are several churches that you cannot miss, especially this one of the Virgen de la Aurora and the nearby parish of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción with a spectacular baroque Tabernacle.

Located on the outskirts of Barrio de La Villa, this cathedral stands as a pinnacle of Andalucian baroque architecture, primarily due to its magnificent Sagrario (Sacristy). The small yet remarkable church boasts three entrances and a plain white exterior that fails to foreshadow the intricate and breathtaking carvings found within its side chapel. This exemplar of Baroque artistry is truly awe-inspiring.
Wonderful little church, €3 entry. Plane white exterior does not prepare you for the side chapel of intricate and stunning carving. This Baroque masterpiece is something to behold. Quiet, peaceful and melodic music plays to bring you into a beautuful and mindful state. I highly recommend this as a must see in the town!

(Translated by Google) It's located in the historic center, very close to the castle and in the Villa neighborhood. We visited with some friends from the area, and they told us we had to see it. We were truly impressed. The main altarpiece, in the Renaissance style, is very beautiful, although the church in general has a Gothic style. It has several images distributed throughout the church. What impressed us most was the Tabernacle, the conception of a close God that can be accessed from all sides. The visit costs 2 euros; it's well worth it.

When I was recommended a trip to Priego, they told me this visit was a must, and they weren't wrong! It's truly wonderful. It has an impressive main altarpiece in the Renaissance style, although the church as a whole is Gothic. There are several religious images scattered throughout the church, and a beautiful tabernacle. The ceilings are also decorated. I especially loved the gentle beauty of the images, as well as the organ. A Mass there with the organ playing must be incredibly moving. Loved this place it was very interesting botanical and mycological gardens. The gardens themselves is divided and showcases different small forests according to the different water needs and species of plants. Its very well kept and with all the species well labelled. I visited in Autumn therefore was very lucky to observe the beautiful varieties of fungi and truffles. The visitors centre has an impressive display with loads of information plus interesting facts about plants and fungi that make up the Mediterranean forests of Andalusia. This is worth a visit for those interested in local plants and flora but just anyone who wants a relaxing walk around a beautifully maintained gardens. This is in the mountain regions of the Subbetico near Priego de Cordoba. An unexpected find on my travels round this area would definitely visit again. The gardener who was looking after the area told us where to find the different species of fungi so worth talking to him as this is sometimes difficult to spot. Large parking and its well signposted. Drinking fountain inside the centre and clean toilets.
